Hello, We have a Go solution running and for the most part has been problem free... I have however discovered a couple little things that I cant seem to figure out... While on 3G script seems to perform "funny"...in that they dont always perform all the script steps. I have attached a screen shot of one of the scripts that has odd behavior. You will see that it is designed to grab the customer ID and the BFP ID, then go to a layout, create a new record then enter that data to "auto fill" the proper fields then we input the variable data in that layout. However, on 3G it seems to not grab the BFP ID, but always takes the first BFP (when a customer has 2 or m…

I've just loaded FMGo in my iPad and using a solution that I haven't touched for years, running FM8.5 Mac with no problems at all. There are a few small issues as I have locked out some of the options on the solution (using access privileges to reduce the available menu options and use scripted buttons for things such as deleting records, creating new ones and printing). From memory and recent inspection it was a standard available setting (it's been a long time since I looked "under the hood" and I can't remember what everything does!). On FMGo the "New Record" and "Delete Record" buttons seem to work off the solution but the "Print" button opens up a Print Setup …

  6. I realise that there will be a very simple solution to this but cannot work it out. I have recently purchased the go app and have transferred my database onto it successfully. I can make changes on the app no problem however when it comes to transferring the file back to FileMaker pro something goes wrong! Following the transferring files instructions I have plugged the iPad into the computer and gone through to apps just like when I save to the iPad. However when trying to move the updates file back to the computer the file name is greyed out and I have to make a new file in order to get it on there. Im sure there is an easier way. Please help!

  9. Afternoon everyone. This may be straight forward, but I need to narrow this down. I have a container field that is auto-enter with a case statement depending on another field value. So... Container Field has a case statement that if Field A is Value X then gets Green Flag, if Value B, then Yellow Flag, and if Value Z then Red flag. When I test on my mac, this works fine when switching fro value to value, but when done on the iPad.. it wont switch the flag. We have a solution built for FM Go that will provide product detail for our operators. There is a single enterable field on the layout. The operator simply enters a code into that field and related data populates in other fields and portals. It works great.... The usability gripe is that there seems to be no way to tab out of the record causing iOS keyboard to retract. Hitting the Next button on the keyboard seems to cause the cursor to exit the field and then reenter it bringing the keyboard back up. I've tried a script trigger that causes a script to run that commits the record but that also doesn't seem to work. The only solution seems to be for the …

I created a global "Notes" field, but when edited from either the iPad or the host machine, the contents don't sync over the network. In all other ways, my app is functional. Surely there's a pretty straightforward answer? EDIT: A little research has revealed that global contents are specific to single user's session. So now the question is how to make a global note sync across all devices. My guess is to create a table with one field, "Notes," and relate it to the table in my Dashboard layout containing the text box.

If on the other hand I simply copy and paste the web page source code into the wb container I receive an XML parsing error. I escaped all the quotes within the code so that's not the issue. We have been approached by a client that would like to deploy iPads in an inventory situation at their facility. Some preliminary tests with iPhones using layouts developed for FM Go suggest that this heavily script driven solution might have speed issues that would be prohibitive. They are running Sever 11 and the proposal is that the iPads would be running on WiFi. We would expect to build Go specific layouts etc. Of course there are lots and lots of variables, but I wonder if folks are finding speeds sufficient for sophisticated solutions. I'm also wondering what folks have experienced using the camera in conjunction with FM Go for barcode reading. Thanks…

Hi FileMakers- I'm wondering how I can attach a pdf file to an email using the Send Mail script step. I am naming the pdf files using a variable & ".pdf" calculation, so they are created as S123456.pdf where the variable is the Sales Order Number of a document. I can attach them to an email using the Save Records as PDF script step, but that does not give me an option of populating the email's To:, From:, CC:, and Subject fields - the Send Mail does, but I have not been able to point the Attach File option to the location of the file on the iPad, possibly because of the naming of the file using a variable. Putting the variable in the File Path List does n…

  63. Good Afternoon, I have a portal set up on my iPad layout, and when the user makes a selection within the portal I would like for that portal row to jump to the top of the display in an attempt to avoid having to use the scroll bar. I have a script trigger on the appropriate field, so when the user makes a selection I capture the ActivePortalRowNumber and use the "Go to portal row" script step to scroll to the bottom, then back up to the appropriate row so it will appear at the top of the portal. The implementation works without a problem in FileMaker on my desktop, however, when using the app on the iPad it just sits there. Any ideas on where to start troubleshoot…

Hey guys Developing an iPad Go solution for some inspectors. Part of it is a checklist. The item is initial/default, ok, or a violation. Right now I toggle between normal text (initial/default), black fill (okay), and bold red text (violation) when the actual text is tapped using a hidden text field going from 0,1,2, triggering, and conditional formatting. My questions: 1. Can Go distinguish between swipes and taps on the iPad/iPhone? I'd love to use a swipe to mark out the item (ok) and a tap to select violation. 2. Is there a better way to implement this? I'm all for cool/intuitive ways of accomplishing this! I just can't really think of any other way to do i…

I'm trying to set up an on-site equipment inspection solution that will package inspection results into a PDF report to be sent to management and maintenance from the field. The report includes a comments section, and may have entries here of varying length, which I don't want cut off in the PDF. Any suggestions for a way to approximate sliding that is compatible with FM Go for iPad? Thanks! -J

We have Filemaker Server 9 running in the office, the workstations connect to the hosted databases through the LAN. All pcs in the office. In the past when someone wanted to access the database remotely they used GotoMyPC. Now one of the owners recently purchsed an iPad, and also purchased Filemaker Go. They would like to access the database from anywhere through filemaker go. I know I have to open port 5003 and forward ports to the server, but what else do I need to do to configure the server to be accessible on the WAN? Turn on instant web publishing? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if there is a way to detect iPad rotation with FM Go? I know I can anchor fields and stretch certain elements on layout resize to sort of smooth out the transition from vertical to horizontal but on certain occasions it would definately be nice to shift to a different layout specifically designed for one orientation or another. Also, I've notices that FM Go is a wee bit sluggish on script execution on button elements. I'd say about 1 in every 3 or 4 times I try to run a script with a button it simply doesn't fire. I'll see the button visually depress so I know FM Go saw the button click but nada on script execution. I've tried on local files and …

I would like to be able to drop an audio file (2MB max) into a container field on a dedicated layout while in FileMaker Go. I have tried a lot of different techniques and the biggest drawback I have found is that the iOS for both iPhone and iPad do not allow apps to share a clipboard. I have not yet purchased FM Go but it looks like it could be a good solution for one of my user groups who "go on the road". I have many databases hosted on FMS 10, but I only want my "FM Go" group to have access to one of them, and within that, a limited amount of data. The existing solution uses the separation model, so the data is on FMS and all the layouts and scripts are on their local computers. The reason for using this model was to minimise the communication traffic over fairly poor remote area connections (which are gradually improving over time). They use an opener file to get it all going. Each user can only view data related to their region, wh…

  78. Hi Everybody, I built a database for my patients a while ago on FM Pro 7. One of the fields on the main table was "Referred by" which recorded whether the patient was referred by a doctor, another patient or someone else (i.e. the milkman...). Now, over 20 years later, I am very impressed that our application is running on the iPad with FM Go. I've been in the micro business since the late '70s and seen many technologies rise and fizzle. However, on my iPad it is amazingly slow to open. I can see it opening a big complex search and sort layout, I get the red cancel slider and after many minutes of processing it switches to the welcome layout. My guess is that when the database was last worked on locally (directly with no server) I must have closed the file on that big complex layout. I thought the opening script would over-ride that return to the last used display. Is there a way to make it go directly to the welcome layout with…
