  1. I have a cabinet shop. I'm trying to develop a piece of software to help us generate shop drawings. Â We build a lot of different types of cabinets but we use essentially the same math for all of our work. Depending on the type of cabinet some of the math needs to show on the shop drawing and some of it does not. The attached jpeg shows what three typical cabinet styles might look like.     I cannot take a picture of the ghosts ... every time I touch my Mac they disappear. But they exist in 13 sometimes when I hover above an object. These tooltips which display in browse mode about how to design while in layout mode are not ones put there by me. Several times while attempting to capture the image of the hovering tooltip, they have disappeared and I could not get the EXACT message and I should think the exact message would be important in searching through code to find the break so finally ... today ...     Currently I m using sort selection drop down menu (trigger) to sort my report with different kind of segments, by month, by year, by customer, by user and by product. Each segment give me the different total on sub-summary column. When i m put this thing on filemaker 12 server or using instant web publishing, this sub-summary ain't working. And worst thing my boss insist for this function, because he can present our record/business to management anytime anywhere when they asking.... I have a, maybe dumb, question : I know that to get and use the name of a button is not possible, and I am wondering if there is any trick that would allow me, and others, to get the name or better said the text typed into the label field that appear when the cursor pass over the button.   6. Hello All! I am having trouble building a complex subsummary report efficiently for a real estate database. The report layout is simple: I basically have a layout with 18 columns, all years, 2000-2017. The layout only has subsummary parts, no body parts. The subsummary part I am using to display data is sorted by a field called Micromarket (basically a geographical area). I want to display the number of units built in each year for each Micromarket.     Hi there... we have a product information table and layout which shows product information. They are all different products and some have options/data that others do not have... For example we sell washing machines that have a spin speed and load capacity And we sell fridge freezers that have a cubic capacity but obviusly not a spin speed. What is the best way of showing these specific options so that unused data is not shown? I thought about maybe using a portal that is populated by a calculation depending on what the product is?

    I have built many layouts using the typical approach of basing the layout on the Line Item table and using a list view with header and footer and it work great. However, I am designing a solution now where the line items currently are not products as much as they are brief descriptions of the work to be done of varying lengths. I plan to move them away from this to a more structured "Parts" table, but the transition may not occur for a while.   10. Is there anyway to have my buttons on top of a slider pane uniformly stretch (that is each one gets wider) when the window is stretched? I am using an ipad size as the basis of my design for the buttons. I am afraid though, this isn’t possible. This also includes fields, but again I can’t have the behaviour I want, I usually have a field in the middle I stretch, which aesthetically isn’t where it’s at. Having said that, if there is no other work around, I am going to use scripts here to script in going to a new layout upon a considerable change in screen dimensions. Which is possible in FM 13

    Finally getting a chance to play with fmp12. in Inspector, position, I used to have the choice of inches, centimeters or pixels. In fmp12 the default choices are inches, centimeters and what I assume are points. Are pixels gone? I am guessing they probably are because of retina displays doubling up on the resolution, but I would like to know for sure.

    After making a number of changes to a database, I ran into a perplexing problem where I would call up a layout in a script by a name calculation, and the proper layout wouldn't appear. But the layout of that name very definitely exists, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason why I would get an error. Does anybody know if there are situations where a layout can't be navigated to by name? If it would help to have a demonstration of the problem, I have taken the database, which is fairly complex, and modified it so that the problem can be easily observed.   17. Basically I'm experimenting with different display strategies and I like the idea of using merge variables as buttons. My objective is to create a static number of merge variables, named $$mergeVar1-$$mergeVar10; then based on some trigger, declare these variables dynamically by way of a loop; then create some kind of button toggle/command functionality based on the name and content of the variable I press.     I am having problems with the way maps are presented in windows. I am alternating between fm 12 and 13 but I haven’t tested 13 yet to see if it solves the problem. Namely the map assumes a position towards the left and I cannot center it or zoom out (btw, am I right in assuming ctrl or cmd and “+” doesn’t work in the web viewer. It’s not so far for me.)

  23. So.... Is there a definitive list anywhere of calendar implimentations & 3rd party options? 1. It would be great to have a listing of them, so one can make an intelligent decision. 2. It would also be great to have some comparisons by "knowledgeable" individuals regarding their options. I'm looking for something to inject into a solution, which allows me to easily add in project dates (from other tables), have it create deadlines (say a set of preferred alerts at X days prior to), and have the ability to tie into iCal or some other such integrated platform...     Is there a way to format a layout so that it will dynamically change when printing a receipt? I am in the process of creating a POS for a quick service restaurant where the receipt needs to show any modifications to the customers order? As of now, I am contemplating building a field which would build the order in html to print, but that doesn't sound efficient.   25. I've created several databases in FM12 and consistently find that when I define borders on a field they only display on the record currently selected. I've also noticed that they do not appear when using the field in a report which also has the borders defined. I thought that I'd seen some of my previous FM12 databases show this border specification on all records . . perhaps I was looking at an FM11 database. Is there a trigger that I can set in the inspector to change this so that all records will display the border formats?

  26. I am running into a curious problem. I have a navigation wrapper script that essentially goes to a layout and displays a particular found set. There are a few scripts involved: Wrapper (sets some defaults) -> Filter (refines records to display) -> Sort I am putting some variables in the script to show me the overall time it takes for this layout to load for the end user (i.e. for it to display the data). I use "Get(UTCMsecs)" at various points to record how long certain steps take in addition to the overall time. I then have a dialog show me all these variables at the end of the script.     I periodically duplicate a layout and then tie to a new table occurrence related to the original base table. I find that I have to go through and mechancially update each field on the duplicated layout to refer to the new TO even though the fields are exaclty the same corresponding fields that originally referred to the source TO that I duplicated It is a mechanical task that drives me a little buggy. Is there some way of saying in one command "update all these fields on this new layout tied to this new TO to actually refer to this new TO or do I have to continue to do it field by field in the mechanical fashion that I am currently employing?     I have a layout that shows a WorkOrders table with fields WorkOrderNo, StartDate, Technician and HoursWorked. I've set it so that there is a sub-summary for sorting by WorkOrderNo and by Technician (Drop-down list of the names of the technicians). There is no problem with sorting by WorkOrderNo. But, when I sort by Technician, I start getting some funny results.     We seem to be having some major issues laying out a new document set in v.12v3. I'm not sure if there has been some change between pre 12 versions and 12 that is making this relatively simple task so painful. In this document set there are a series of leading subsummary parts, a body part, a trailing subsummary part, and finally a trailing grand summary part. We need vertical lines that cross the subsummary parts and the body part to essentailly separate colomuns visually. The body part (and the vertical line) need to slide up based on field contents. I would like to get the names of the states to repeat at the top of the next column or page when the number of records for a particular state doesn't fit in only one column.     It's just a vector forward icon I am using, pasting it from illustrator to fm. Using the layout on a mac client there are no problems, but on windows the icon is whited out so to speak. Quite possibly a bug?

    When I am posting a new topic on this forum my browser window shows ' Posting New Topic - FMForums '. If I go to window menu this same browser window will appear the same in the drop down list. In my filemaker setup however the windows do not take the name of the layout but the name of the database, and each addltional windo a numeric suffix as in, NAData, NAData - 1, NAData - 2...     Hey guys. I was browsing the interwebs for a calendar solution to show the duration of booked assets. I found a simple one on here but can't seem to relocate it. What I'm looking to do is have all my assets listed down the left of the chart, and have the days of the month listed across the top. It would be in a monthly view. The chart would have the booking date ranges in a "bar graph" spanning that date range for the respective asset. Is this feisable? I'm going to keep looking for the original post I found, but this is what I'm going for.

Hello, I'm working on setting up an email campaign in Filemaker and found a tutorial that references a template that came with the Business Productivity Kit that looks so perfect - it would save me heaps of time. On the phone support told me these files would probably work with FMP12 but I can't find a download for the BPK anywhere!   47. It seems rather clumsy. So here's what I do. Two tables one is employees and the other companies, pk for companies has to populate its fk counterpart in employees. On my layout I choose to show Company Name to populate a fk_Company_Serial no, and then I have the company name looked up and auto inputed. I 'd like to know if there's a more elegant way to do this.   50. Hello, We have a long document as a single record. I am trying to build a table of contents when we save as PDF. I need to determine the page number of the subheadings, which are fields. I have a script that pulls the subhead and its correct page number, but only if I can get it to the correct page by go to last then go to previous. Â As I investigated the tool tips that did work, which was only one, I notice that the "Tool Tip Image T" in Layout Mode was bigger than the "Tool Tip Image T's" that were NOT WORKING.   55. I have a FMP file that loads various other FMP databases into a single file. In my header, I have a logo and a portal-based menu that links to layouts that load data from those individual files. For all other layouts (photographs, boxes, exhibitions..etc) everything works fine, but with Contacts, the header contents will not appear. Similarly, the Photographs layout loads an image and title information from the Images database file. Again, the header contents will not load until I have entered the ID# from the Images database.     I found several others have stated this conplaint as far back as FM7 so I guess I'm with company. Kind of surprised that it is still not fixed. Anyway, I couldn't input certain Thai and Lao characters in FileMaker text fields or labels. But it can read those characters all right when those text are input directly via MySQL and displayed in FM (I use FM12 Pro). Even more curious is that I can type those characters in FM Go!     I'm pretty sure the answer is "No", but just in case I've somehow overlooked the obvious in my various searches, I was wondering if anyone knows a way to change FileMaker's Default Table View Properties.  Specifically, I pretty much ALWAYS want to "Include Header Part" and "Include Footer Part" when in Table view, but I have to go in and check the appropriate checkboxes every bloody time I create a new layout. I don't think it would be so annoying if it weren't for the fact that it's buried a couple of layers deep...  Thanks--

On occasion a new record created by one user will show for another user with "??" in some data fields and the other data fields will be blank. Â How do I have a summary field in a trailing grand summary, but summing a field from a parent table? Â See the attached screen shot which should explain pretty quickly what I'm trying to do.     Hello I have a subsummary report with a main group and subcategories. Some main groups only have one subcategory which is the same as the main group. Other main groups have up to 4 subcategories.   75. Hi, I have searched around as I thought this would have been asked numerous times, but couldn't find what I was after. I have a field that stores a 0 or 1 depending on whether there is a related record elsewhere. The button take you to that related record and associated layout. I want to disble the button if the field contents is 0 (no related record). I thought I might be able to use conditional formatting, but there's no 'disable' option (which would be nice).     I am using FM 12 Adv Since my membership application was started, I have stored the version number as a global, calculation (so that my import will not over write it). As I release a new version, I just change the value of the "Version" field.  Today I updated from version 1.48 to 1.49 and to my surprise even though the Global::Version field shows 1.49, on my layout it says 1.48. How can that be?  Shouldn't my layout say 1.49???  Â

    I have a layout, LayoutOne. I made a duplicate of it LayoutOneCopy. I made changes to LayoutOneCopy, and now I want LayoutOneCopy to be my new default layout. The problem is, all my links, scripts, etc. say Go To LayoutOne. If I rename LayoutOne to LayoutOne-Old, all the scripts make the change. Is there a quicker way to have all the scripts reflect the new layout name rather than going through each individual script and link? Thanks!

I have created several layouts - apparently successfully and they display and work OK - but suddenly, when I proceed to edit the layouts, the theme background and margins are stuck at a position much narrower than the displayed width and and I can no longer drag it to change it. I can drag the length up/down OK but the width is stuck (see attached screenshot) Â This used to work fine but has recently got stuck. Â The layouts still seem to work OK but the editor has this problem. Â Â

  83. I am trying to create a scenario whereby a check symbol (Container field) appears when the result of a calculation in a subsummary part is true. I have the check symbol field: g highlight, container, global I have a calculation field; container, The calculation is: when x - y ≠ 0; g highlight; "" (x & y are summary fileds) I have inserted this field into the subsummary line.     Lots of real estate is wasted on field name labels, especially in iOS. I'd like to see the field name label UNDER the field and visible only in Find Mode; in Browse Mode, the field data in this particular solution is self-evident. This is not what I want: I've been experimenting with conditional formatting with only frustration; I think I want a format that depends on the view mode but we don't have it. And, I've downloaded examples of solutions that others have designed, including the starter solutions, but haven't seen a resolution.     Why sometimes when I make a change in the graph or definitions and when I leave, does it say it is making changes to the layouts and it seems to go through every layout in my file even if it isn't even related to a table I changed? It is very slow. And it says I can skip it but it gives no indication of what it will mean if I skip it. It is very unfriendly with no message and no way to look up in help what it even means.   89. Hi, Â I've created a layout that uses 2 images to act as buttons running scripts. The problem I have is that the bigger my database gets the slower it is to navigate and it's due to the images. Â I've attached a screen shot of my layout. The images are on the far right of the body section. They're just very small jpgs. Â I'm guessing filemaker is loading this image for every row (rather than once and repeating) so does anyone know of a technique I can reduce the load I'm putting on the file?   90. I have created a sales summary report layout for my DB and the totals are working great, but for some reason, the percentages make no sense. This is a sub summary on two fields (Account Rep and Job Type).  The Total Sales Amount column is a summary field based on the Sales Amount.  Currently, the percentage is a calculated field based = Sales Amount / Total Sales Amount.  Basically, I want the percentage to be the percentage of the 4th column compared to the grand total at the bottom.  What am I doing wrong?  (Report is attached)  Thanks, Ryan Â

  93. Someone tell me I'm not crazy, please, I just upgraded to FM 12 and am frustrated with reducing a body and/or subsummary part. If I go too far (in reducing the size), it deletes the entire part! What? I have done this several times now (and of course, can't get the part back) and would like to know if anyone is having the same problem and/or if there is a solution.     Hi there, I am using Filemaker 10Pro and hit a wall. I created an invoice layout that works great for all my needs. Now I needed to add a deposit field to it that can be subtracted from the total invoice. All i did was add a new field called deposit (number field) then created an additional calculation field to subtracted it from the total to create the final invoice field. Seems simple enough. The total invoice and deposit field are both in the same table so there should not be any linking issues. The problem is I am locked out of the deposit field and cannot enter a number into here. On one of the databases, everytime I created a new field FM would automatically enter it on the Table view but some weeks ago it stopped doing it. The database is around 90 fields so it's not too large. Does anybody know why and how to fix it? Best!

    I am trying to copy a few layout fields from a tabbed layout I have to another blank layout, but instead of fm only copying the selected form fields, it copies the whole tabbed interface, every single tab, including the current one, and including items not selected. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

    I can't find where to adjust the height of the body. I know I can drag that tab or its bottom line but I need precision. Where are those numbers stored please? I thought it would be inspector position but when I adjust body height, that number stays at 0. I am missing something basic I think. What stumps me is that I can see the height in Inspector but it won't let me access it. New to FM. Thank you for being patient with obviously silly question.

  100. I'd like to know if there is a way to generate a window identifier. My goal is to be able to open two identical windows and then have conditional formatting or calculated fields appear differently to the two windows according to selections made by the user. If I use conditional formatting based on global fields then they will be set across both Windows. Addendum: OK. I did find this post, which talks about using a custom window title, which I've considered. That's a little messy.
