    Admins, please move this if needed. Sorry I could not see a better option. But I was also in a hurry! Cheers and thank you in advance. I have a simple dual monitor setup as I use several programs at a time. When Outlook 2010 and FM are open at the same time, if I click to change to a different mailbox (sent,inbox unread etc...) the FM window on the other monitor flickers until the Outlook program has finished painting the new window!     I am using Filemaker Pro 12 since its release and the program crashed on me. On restarting the drop menus fail to automatically populate. They only populate by moving my mouse through the invisible list. This occurs with all databases including the sample ones provided by Filemaker. Is there a quick fix or must I reinstall Filemaker?

  5. So I have a portal, and I am using a tiered group of conditional value lists to populate some the field data (This works). The problem I am having is when I get to the last drop down and make a selection, I would like that last selection to populate a merge field with data. This data is located in the same table as the last drop down. For example: The last selection is part number and based on the part number, I want to display a description of that part.   7. hello! Not really sure where to post my question but it currently uses a value list so i figured let me start here. When writing orders we require that the salesperson choose either New or Repeat to let production know if the order is New or Repeat. It is a drop down with value of New or Repeat. One of those has to be chosen, but what is happening is when the sales person duplicates a similar order to speed up the process of generating a New order they are leaving the field as it was on the duplicated order which 9 times out of 10 says Repeat.   13. Hi, Has anyone had problems with layouts not converting as they should? I have one layout in particular, very complex, that's been fine since version 8 , 9,10 and 11 Advanced that's quite messy after conversion to 12. Blocks of text pasted onto the LAYOUT now have borders that are not specified in the inspector. It shows no line but these objects (non-data) now have borders. I've found no way to remove these.

    In our portal, we have a Start Date and a Start Time field (popup value list of times). These fields let an instructor indicate the day and time they started a session. When an instructor completes the session they can start a new session and time on a new portal row. A small problem we have is that an instructor may start their session today at 1:00 p.m., then for their next session (on a new portal row) they may accidentally select 1:00 p.m. again (instead of 1:15 p.m.). Is there a way to stop them from entering the same start time for any of today's sessions. Michelle

    I realize this has probably been asked numerous times but I can't find another thread that I understand. I have an Inventory table with items listed by "shelf", "category" & "Stock ID". I also have a field that shows it's status as either "reserved or "Available". When entering a line item in my Invoice file, I have value lists for "Shelf", "Category" & "Stock ID". My Stock ID Value list now lists all related items but I only want my Stock ID value list to show me just the "available" ones. I don't know how I can do that.     Hi, I have created a phonebook database but for the printable version layout I am having issues with the sub summary parts. It is sorted by department and sub department but not all departments have a sub department so is it possible to set it so that the second sub summary part collapses when there is no content to display.     Hello Board, I really like the idea of portals, or what i think they are, but i don't get it. I'm new to building db's. I have a table that records a job process. There is a 'Job Number' and then the individual processes that occur are added as New Records with that Job Number being the same. When someone enters a Job Number into the field, i'd like a Portal to show the other records that also have that same Job Number. I would also like to count how many records there are that are in that portal, matching that Job number. Is that possible?     Hi, I'd like to ask you if you can help me with this. We are running several FM DBs simultaneosly which was created from same template DB. During the time we want to add new feature(s) but it's very uncomfortable to synchronize all changes with all DB on the server. This features updates are not only layout changes but it could be anything. adding new tables, fields, value lists etc. Does exists some way how to manage all DBs together?     Hello Board! New FMP12 user here. Thank you to all for the help i've had so far. I'm really getting this db firing and it's making a difference to us! I have a report that summarises work done in the day. A script searches then sorts the info and then puts the user into a layout that shows the info. It looks good on screen, contains a Header part and a Summary part only, but when i print it to a laser A4, only the Header prints. How do i get the Summary part with the data to print? Thank you! I have a portal based on a tabled called _Services_Referrals_Sensitive and a conditional value list called _Services_Referrals_Sensitive_cvl. When the staff member adds a new portal row they are able to pick a category but then the correponding list is cut short--only showing one item in a much longer list.     hi there. i have a DB that has the following fields: customer name, image (container), category, image name. what i am trying to do is make a printable pdf. there is only one customer, one image (no duplicates), one name per image, one category will have multiple images. so the customer name is always at the top. then the category (CATEGORY 1, 2, 3), then the images with names are laid out 3 or 4 perpage. so category 1 may ave 3 images, then category 2 have 5, on so on. i have tried to make labels and no go. any help would be nice. thanks

I have Tab Control #1... and then I have Tab Control #2 embedded in the 4th tab of Tab Control #1 I have named the 4th tab of Control 1, WebTab4 On Tab Control #2 (embedded in Tab 4 of Tab Control #1), I have two tabs. I call them WebTab4a and WebTab4b, respectively. When I try to perform script step "Go To Object" to WebTab4, it works perfectly. When I try to perform script step "Go To Object: to WebTab4b, it fails with and Error 116 which is "Layout Object Missing". This happens regardless of whether or not I go to WebTab4 before, or not at all, prior to that script step. Any ideas? The environment is FM Server 12. Thanks,

    I've read a couple of posts about locking down specific records, what I need to do is lock down a specific field so that it cannot be edited. I figured out HOW to do this and it works fine, using a couple of scripts. My issue is: When I set the field up and select none of the field entry options, this allows no editing of the field. My scripts add data/information into the field without issue. The problem is once you uncheck all of the field entry options, it eliminates the vertical scroll bar so we can not see the information in the field once it fills the window on the layout.   38. Hi There, I have come up with a way of inserting/deleting records in a portal similar to how you would insert/delete in excel. If you could please evaluate and comment, I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking to see if anyone finds anything that I have not considered with regards to this process.   42. I have the PC, in which web-crawling script is running 24 hours straight. As time goes by, it seems the PC is getting slower and slower. I'm guessing that it's mainly because of the cache that web viewer makes. If anyone knows how to manage this kind of batch transaction, what would be the best way? any solution? As a consequence, I found out it's better to shut down FileMaker application and launch again and again repeatedly. It seems the most stable. Thanks!!

I want to have many people sign in and look at the items I am selling using IWS (Instant Web publishing). I always have a 'continue' button adjacent to the value list that runs the relevant script.   53. I have two tables: Items, and Suppliers. I have a value list to display Items, related to Suppliers. When I update the Items, and add new ones, the value list is not updated... I had to edit the value list, and confirm it was stil set up the same, and then when I selected OK it was updated... Why is this? Actually, it's not updating at all. Typically for performance reasons I would filter at the relationship level so that only a very small subset of records is returned to me over the network. However I've heard talk in FM12 that portal filtering is meant to behave much faster and - dear I say it - be carried out server-side?   58. Hello, I am trying to build a layout for printing a pdf document. I have built a table that have many fields to cover almost every stituation that might arise. When I print this, I want to find a way to make the empty fields (and the accompany field name) disappear so that blank spaces and field names with no accompany data do not clutter up the lay out. I've tried conditional formatting to make the field name go blank when its accompnay field is blank. I've done as much sliding up as I can to minimize the field size. I am trying to make a list with multiple columns and I don't know how long the input will be, so just putting in spaces could look correct for some input but bad for others. (i.e. In java I would use the tab escape character \t to line up the tabs) Is this possible to implement in FileMaker? Thanks.

  61. This is driving me crazy: I snagged this solution from filemakermagazine.com and while trying to learn how it works, I added two fields, Popup List 3 and Popup List 4. For the life of me I can't figure out why they aren't populating with values on both the Main and Hidden layouts; I copied and pasted the original two existing fields, including their related scripts. Nada. In other words, when I click on the gradient to create a color stop it gets created with what appears to be randomly chosen colors. We're selling cars and every car when sold needs to have a PDI (pre-delivery inspection). There's a table for cars and a table for PDI information. Cars have a unique vehicle ID which links the two tables and I have also given the PDIs a unique ID. We have made the layout so that our mechanics can use an iPad to fill out the form.   68. Hello, I'm adding in a Purchase Order module to my existing music department database and need some guidance. Our department has 15 accounts from which purchases are made. The account numbers on these accounts are static except for 2 digits that change based upon the fiscal year (from July 1 to June 30). I would like to have a way when creating a PO to select from a drop-down list that shows accounts only for the current fiscal year. I will need to keep a record of the POs and their year-specific accounts from past years.   69. What I want to do is manually select a word or two and hit a keyboard shortcut that turns the text color to red. I have (on my Mac) Keyboard Maestro, which can select a menu and/or do all sorts of UI tasks. But to change to red you have to select a swatch from a palette. I think the solution will be to make a script that does something similar to TextStyleAdd (red). Then I can just select that script from the script menu. But the script creation window seems to allow only a few commands, none of them related to text. Can I do this?

  72. I'm attempting to create a database to store id documents for people in a multi-departmental firm for anti-money laundering purposes. People can belong to more than one client files. Client files can have more than one person. People can have more than one piece of id. As I see it, I have a one to many relationship between people and id and a many to many relationship between people and client files. So I have created a join table to handle that. There are two fields in the Instrument table: Instrument ID and Instrument Name. Of course, the Person::Instrument field is related to the Instrument::Instrument ID field. Hi, all: I recognize the wisdom of having a separate table for value lists, but should that one table hold all of the non-custom value list fields, or should each value list field have its own table? For example, say you have three different value list fields: fruit type, countries and company names; they're completely unrelated to each other. If you were to put all three in the same table every record would have at least two empty fields (since each record would have one of its three fields filled with data.) I am trying to create a value list for tags that updates itself showing only unselected tags for an article.     Forgive me if there is another post referencing this. I tried searching for it but didn't find anything. I have a form that contains a few pop-up menus. Ideally the user tabs into the field, in this case a "state" field presses 'i' and "ID" is populated. If the user presses 'i' again the field value would change to "IL" for Illinois.   86. I built a couple of fairly simple databases in FMP v11 to catalog some art using one of the pre-made inventory templates. Both databases are used in a multi user environment. The "Insert Picture" button to place an image in the field has this simple script: Go to Field [Product Catalog:Image] Insert Picture [] In the first database this worked just fine. In the second one, the field randomly drops images, even in single user mode.   87. Novice here. Designing a simple database containing info about horse owners (one owner may have several horses), and their horses. I want to be able to set a field in the 'Horse Details' table, that contains the owners surname, from the 'Owner Details' table, where I can select an already existing owner surname from a drop down list. ie adding a new or additional horse against a current owner. This is to be performed on the iPad.   88. I have a home asset table with a item field among other fields. I also have two other tables name category and location with a category and location text field, respectively. In one layout with a tab, I have two portals (see attachment). The left will list my categories and the right I hope to list my items that are located in the location area. I am not sure what relationships are needed to get this to work. Once I get the category to work, I will do the same for the location tab. The layout is based on the category table for now but that is probably wrong i Know.

  89. Hello all, I am using the List View. Based on variables I want to display different groups of objects (buttons, text etc.) in different records (shown at the same time). My first attempt for a solution was to use tabs that I control via scripts. The problem is, that all records in the list view always display the same tab of a tab control. So if I go to one tab in a records all other records also go to this tab. Unfortunatly there is also no hide option that allows to hide groups of objects. Is there any solution? I have filemaker 11 and 12. Altough a solution for filemaker 11 would be prefered. Thank you!

  90. Hi, I have a script that I'm studying. It involves a drop down field that triggers a script on OnObjectModify, then a condition as a result of the value change. This is currently working intermittently, with the drop down still appearing selected. If I deselect it, by clicking in blanc space somewhere on the layout, the condition completes as desired. It looks to me as if I'm forcing a final update on this extra click. I've tried script steps like Refresh Layout, toggling menus, scrolling but I can't find anything to mimic this step. Any thoughts? Dear All, I have a "nested Value List" solution (value of a field set by ValueList A filters values in ValueList B ) that has worked through a number of versions of FMP upto and including FMP 11. It now fails in FMP12. It's based on using the Include only related values starting from but then leaving the field set to <unknown>. Which was a trick somebody passed onto me years ago. Basically it worked along the lines of : if the valuelist is the product of a relationship, filter by that relationship, reverting to include all values, obviously returns all values. ARe you aware of any changes to this area in FMP12? thanks in advance Giles

For us, key functionality exists around the ValueList feature to DISPLAY one value (e.g. a description) while RETURNING another value (e.g. a UID), into the selected field.   93. I have a layout where the users can enter text in a text field that is set up without a scroll bar. I would like them to know when to click on a button or just click inside the field which expands the text box so they can see all the text. Next to the title of the field I would place a conditional merge field that would say "to see more click here" If the text fit inside the window they would not see the message to see more.   94. Is there a plug-in or a workaround to FM 11 not recognizing the Windows keyboard "enter" key on the numeric keypad for entering data into an edit box? The edit box holds a list of items which are defined by numbers. However each number needs to be separated by a return.     How can I get a sum of all the values from all rows in a given field of a portal? I have a line items portal on an Invoice layout. I need the total of each charge in the line items to be displayed outside the portal (in the rest of the invoice) and be able to use that in another calculation. The previous version had layouts with links hard written onto each layout.   99. I am finding FM12 extremely frustrating as a development platform. While in layout mode some simple tasks are much, much slower than in FMP11, particularly on layouts with lots of objects. Even when working locally on a DB using a fast PC or Mac, when working on a layout with a large number of objects (e.g. Multiple tab objects, buttons, fields etc) simply moving a field by a couple of pixels, then going back to browse mode can take 5 seconds of beach ball time.
