FileMaker Server 12

Hi All, I'm currently working with a company that is looking to migrate it's FM Server 12 from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2019 or newer, to ensure continued security. There is no desire to upgrade to a new FMP Server/Client as the existing system works and continues to do everything that is required. Has anyone installed FM Server 12 onto a more recent version of windows server and had any issues? In particular, am looking at windows Server 2019 or newer. Thanks in advance. Anthony

I am looking to help someone with legacy Windows FM Servers, Version 12, getting a NOT FOUND message, on open a 'menu.fpm12' file. Running Windows Clients and Windows Servers only. I know the message isn't really about the 'file not found' or 'not being able to be opened, as the file is there and every user gets the same messages, and there were NO CHANGES to cause this. I don't know anything about what makes File Maker tick, but I suspect there is something in the FPM12 file that directs it where to go, what to do, and it's having a problem with that.... not 'opening the file' THer are multiple copies of this file, in multiple locations, and they …

Recently I upgraded my filemaker server from low 18 to current v.18 Prior to upgrading Our office used webdirect and since the upgrade, I am unable to use webdirect. Someone suggested I use the command line in terminal since my FMServer is located on a mac to restart the FMServer and this may fix the problem. I have restarted the machine itself and that did not fix it. I am unfamiliar with the command line approach. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I go into my FM server like I always did before. The only difference is I'm coming in through teamviewer as I'm not in the office. I get this message and just don't know what to do: I get the following error message. Tried to push the button to start database on the top left and it's hanging. The database server is not available admin console functionality is limited to filemaker server overview and the log viewer panes. to use other functionality, the server administrator must start the database server again.

I'm running Server 12 with anywhere from 10-15 stations at a time consisting of a variety of v12, v13, v14 as well as Advanced on the client side. Recently purchased a few license keys from eBay and I'm getting unique license key errors on my network. The keys definitely look unique to me, but maybe they're not? Anyone aware of license key "types" that cannot simultaneously run on the same network even though they are unique?

I have a client who is running FM Server 11. They don't want to upgrade FM Server right now. I am trying to move my FM Pro 12 database to their network. It can't be run on FM Server 11 since the file format is incompatible. Is there any problem with installing FM Pro 12 on the server and using that to share my v12 database? No one would be using the software on the server. It would only be used to share the database with a couple of users on the network.

Good morning all, We are currently running FMS12 hosted on a Windows Server 2003. All clients are also windows users and are running FM12. Everything has been fine, then yesterday, due to an internal office move, we had to move the server to a new room. Everything was closed down properly and restarted correctly. Hi, I'm running FileMaker 12 database on a Filemaker 12 server. With my business file I'm able to sort and delete records, but cannot edit or create new records. With a second new test file, I'm able to edit, create, delete, everything. The 2 files have identical permissions and privileges. I know my PHP is correct because it works on the test file. The business file was converted from FMP 5.5 to FMP 7 to FMP 12. It is not a corrupt file. How can my business file not edit or create new records, yet be able to delete records? Good morning all, we run several FMS12 windows servers with both FileMaker GO and FM13 clients. Very recently, we started to notice occasional duplicate / stale / ghost users in the client list on the server side. It occurs most often in the wireless / GO clients. It would appear a connection to the server is dropped, and when the client (GO) re-authenticates, it is occasionally starting a new session/client on the server without releasing the old one. I am having some troubles with containers and PDF files. I want to be able to display the files to end users within the solution (i.e. they aren't downloading them), so wanted to use a container w/ interactive/preview capabilities so they could just scroll through it then and there. My boss bought me a copy of FMPA14 because I had heard our FMS12 could still host it, but I'm getting an SSL error when I try to connect to the server from FMP14. We have FMS12v04 on an old G5 running OS X Lion and it can't be upgraded any further. I've been researching this a bit and I found links to update FMS12 to v09 (I think?) which I haven't done yet. I'm writing an SOP document for restarting Windows servers hosting Filemaker Server 12. I have the correct syntax from the Filemaker Server 12 Help PDF. fmsadmin disconnect client -m message, --message message However, when I try to use it, it doesn't work. I need an example as the syntax for the message part is unclear. I'm writing SOP for stopping Filemaker Server 12 prior to a restart of the hosting Windosw Server. My question is: When you STOP SERVER, does it gracefully close the databases? Or should one first close the databases? What I've found so far is opinions, but no actual statement that STOP SERVER does or does not close the databases gracefully. It appears on the surface that when you STOP SERVER and someone is connected, that it gives you a chance to notify users and include a delay before closing the databases and stopping the server. However, I haven't seen anything published about Best Practices. Bill

I have a FMSA 12.0.5 running on OSX 10.7.5 which needs the 12.0.6 update to allow FM-GO13 clients to access it. Every time I try to run the updater it hangs (the updater hangs). Specifically, it hangs at step 10 of the 11 steps. I have tried many things to get the updater to run and so far I am defeated. Does anyone have any pointers as to where I am going wrong?!

When I try to open the FMS12 Console, I see a dialog   Is this because I'm running Java 7.75?  I could not find any settings in System Preferences or Safari Preferences that had to do with certificates.   This occurred on Yosemite.  On Mavericks, nothing at all happens when I click the Start Admin Console button.  Please give me some suggestions.  --Doug  EDIT:  Fixed with installation of version 12.0.5 on Yosemite.  Off to install 12.0.6 on Mavericks to see if that helps there.

I've inherited an instance of FileMaker Server 12 that is hosting 100+ files, and 80% of them haven't been used or even logged into in years. 5% are used regularly, and 15% are used very occasionally. The issue is I haven't the foggiest idea which is which. Does anyone have any clever ideas on how I could, in one fell swoop, figure out which ones have fallen out of use? We have Filemaker Pro 10 Server running on a Mac Pro running snow leopard. On our LAN the speed is fine. We share the file over the web and its painfully slow. We have a 10meg leased line, so its 10meg up and 10meg down(uncontended). The filemaker pro database file is now 500mb. Does anyone have any advice? I have been told to upgrade to FM12 which I plan to do, but is there anything else I can try.

A strange one - I have a group of FM12 clients working off a FMS12, all Mac. When the users leave FM to work in other apps, upon their return to FM it is locked up. ie: nothing clicks, no menus pop down. The only fix I can find is to once again leave FM for another app and on the second return FM works again. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Our company purchased a new mac mini to run as a dedicated fmserver. It came with Yosemite. Attempting to install stops after accepting the licensing agreement, displaying a warning about bonjour needing to be installed: See attached screenshot. Today, sixty minutes before terminating an assignment my MacMini crashed on me. It's no longer working, it doesn't want to reboot. The Server HD drive is no longer accessible. Good things the scheduled backups were done on the second drive (MacIntosh HD). In two days from now I have an important contract and I need to have access to my database. I was able to get to the AppleStore before it closed and got another MacMini. Unfortunately, any new Mac comes with Yosemite as the OS. Mac OS X Server v10.6.8 FileMaker Server 12.0.1.178 During a daily scheduled backup in which it's set to keep a maximum of 14 backups, once there are 14 folders as expected I am receiving error messages stating: FMServer Error 685 Error occurred while deleting backup folder... When I look at the folder(s) in question it has successfully deleted all the database copies, only leaving the externally stored container files. All of them. And their folders. I looked at the permissions for each folder and they were all identical; all having fmserver/fmsadmin with Read & Write priv's. Thoughts, suggestions ?!

We're having major issues with our FMSA12 server bogging down under the load of too many CWP sessions (they vary from as few as 3 to as many as 127 from observations so far). We run a webserver in a datacenter based on CentOS Linux. We have our website running on that server. For the client portal we use a connection to our local Filemaker 12 Server via FM_API_for_PHP_Standalone.zip. We have a good connection (tested with fmi-test sample database) to out local server. So that works. We have run the filemaker php code for many years on the local server with no problems. Now I've moved the php code to the webserver and installed and configured FM_API_for_PHP_Standalone.zip correct (php date and php curl modules installed, path updated, etc). Maybe I’m the last one to notice this, but I’ve come to appreciate that Filemaker Server backups don’t replace the copy of any database that has not changed during the daily backup for instance. The result is that if one has the verification box checked it doesn’t happen for those databases. What’s interesting is that one can see the pattern of change simply by looking at the pattern of successful consistency checks. Where I seem to recall reading about databases where there is no change, not being replaced with each backup, I don’t recall anyone mentioning that by implication there would be no verification happening in those circumstances. I'm on a new Windows 7 machine and when I go to the IP address:16000 it comes up with a message that I need Java later than 6. I installed 8 and I still get this message every time. I checked Java and it is 8. That's on Explorer. On Chrome I get some crazy messages about what program to start php files. That's after I hit the big button for the admin. Any ideas?

I run a FSMA 12/12 FMPA on a newly configured logical Windows 2008 R2 server. The FMPA12 client runs every two seconds a script on the server that looks whether a PDF report must be created. This FMPA12 client, although constantly active, is disconnected every one hour or so. The FSMA 12 log shows: client .... no longer responding, connection closed (51). This issue is regularly discussed in several forums, but FileMaker as usual never comes up with a solution. We have a (fortunately) backup server we are trying to bring up and we testing our PHP/CWP solutions on it as the last step. Up to this point, everything seemed to be working fine: all the canned server tests (well, IWP and CWP) had worked OK; a couple of add-ons appeared to be working fine; client access was good; custom IWP solutions were good. Hello, I'm new at FileMaker and trying to get data out via the API. The issue I'm having is when I create a newFindCommand and execute it the resulting record set contains as many rows as there are in the layout but each row is the same. More specifically, each row is a copy of the FIRST row in the database. E.g. I'm looking for products with a product code like 'XXX', of which there should be 7. I get 7 rows back but each one is the same product. I've looked a couple of tutorials online and they do exactly the same operations I do so I'm lost as to why my results come out this way. Running Server Advanced 12.0.5.551 on Mac Server 10.8.5 Started having an issue last week when the web servers certificate was replaced. Now the PHP publishing just does not connect (for the Test Page I get an XML error: not well-formed (invalid token) The IWP sample DB works perfectly, however ever other IWP DB does not open and gives a FM Web Publishing - - wpc1 Error: 500 "/fmi/iwp/cgi?-authinfo" 500 10356 I'm assuming that these are related. Do I need to reinstall FMS or is there a setting that I'm missing somewhere?

I wrote a very simple script attempting to use ScriptMaster within a FileMaker Server environment. I do have a plug-in called "myFIleSystems((V1_1)" which I believe being enabled with FMS. I have a script that 1) loads a layout and on that layout there are a series of calculations that take a few minutes to calc. 2) it them exports that data to a CSV The script runs fine on a workstation (filemaker Pro 12), but when running on the server (server 12) it doesn't complete. It actually does run the scripts successfully, but no data is exported. After much troubleshooting, I think the problem is that the server is not waiting for the calculations to load before it goes on to the next step. as an example, on the workstation the process takes about 20 minutes to complete, yet on the server the script is over in about 15 seconds. I integrated a credit care payment gateway (by Nelix Transax) into my database solution about two years ago. What I was not aware of at the time was the fact that the gateway provider requires my server to be scanned on a quarterly basis by ControlScan (even though I do not record or maintain any credit card information in my database). First post in this website, hope I'm not in the wrong place (I wasn't sure if I should've posted on the Import/Export forums). I'm a novice who has been tasked to sync 2 tables with all their records (They have the same fields) between a local computer and the online database. Server is hung. But continues to work. Clients connect to the normal mode. Felt delays. But on the server nothing can be done, any act, stop, create a script, gives an error error enсountered. Not displaying data on the number of connections, information on the status of the server graphics. It happens periodic enough, sometimes the server is running a month, sometimes a week, sometimes a day normally. I can not understand what causes the failure. When running a fm server12 backup routine, is there a way to NOT backup the files that are stored in external containers?

I am running filemaker server advanced ver 12.0.1.178 on a server running server 2012 standard. This morning the main database crashed and it recovered. But, I have two databases that have container fields. The data is stored as a file and not as a reference. when looking at the container field from the filemaker client the container field does not display the pdf instead it displays a http status 404/Streaming/MainDB/Fm....pdf instead. I can export the container field and the document is exported correctly. I just do not understand why the container field is not displaying an image of the pdf file. I've been having a problem with FMS 12 backup schedules for the last few days, and it's giving an error code - 20411 - that I haven't been able to find documentation on. I currently have Hourly, Daily, and Weekly schedules running; Hourly to an internal drive, Daily and Weekly to an external USB drive. The problem is occurring with all three backup schedules, so I'm inclined to think it's not a problem with either a specific schedule, or with the backup destination. The database is hosted on a RAID 1 mirrored drive, and one of the drives recently failed; however, that doesn't seem to have affected the operation of the main database. We are using FMSA 12.05 on OS X 10.8.5. We have configured the server to require secured connections (i.e. use SSL) for the FMP client. However, we don't appear to always be getting secured connections when clients log in. We have an 'open' script that runs when clients log in, finding various information about that user. I included a step to set a global variable to the connection state when a user logs in, and that is displayed on a layout. 90% of the time when I log in (local account, full access) it shows that I am connected via a secured connection (state=2). But, the other 10% of the time, it tells me that I am on an unsecured connection (state=1). This…

I have a user who has reported issues with their ODBC connection. They say that they have to manually relogin every so often; approximately every 10 days. (Although the connection is only utilized once a day, so perhaps is every 10 connections?) I have researched everything that I can find, but haven't seen anything definitive about what may be causing it. This is using FMSA 12.05; client used to connect from is 'Qlikview'. * User privilege set has 'Disconnect user when idle' marked ON: would this affect ODBC connections? One of the layouts it goes through has a script trigger for OnLayoutEnter that changes the custom menu set based upon username. I have a scheduled script that simply imports a .csv file into a database hosted on FMServer12. The file is located in the 'Documents' folder and the script uses 'Get ( DocumentsPath )' to retreive the file. There are no problems with FMS finding the file. However, there are two fields in the .csv, and FMS will ONLY import the 2nd field, and ONLY IF the 1st field contains data. I can do a manual import of the exact same file with no problems at all. But when FMS performs the import it completely skips the first field. And, if the 1st field is empty (in the imported file), it will get no data for the 2nd field. Has anyone out there used the newest java update (55)? I haven't been able to find any reports of it causing a problem, but there aren't reports of it NOT causing problems, either. We are moving our FMS installation to new server hardware running Windows Server 2012. We have been using Java 7u51 up to this point (but on OS X 10.8). Filemaker website says this combination works, but how is it in real life? Am I missing anything significant by not going to Server 13? I'm currently running FMS 10 on Mac OS 10.6.x. If I go to Server 13, I'd have to update my OS as well as Parallels and I'd rather avoid that. Also, how do the concurrent user licenses work with FMS 12? Or is that specific only to version 13?

We have FM 12 Pro database on a Mac Pro server in our office here in China. Most of us can access the database via Open RemoteLocal Hosts apart from one of our guys who doesn't see any files appearing after highlighting our network path blue. Some of us can also access the DB on remote networks and via VPN's however same thing again, some guys don't see any files after highlighting the correct network path via Favorite Hosts. I have a script that sends notification emails. It stopped sending emails after the server HD was cloned by their IT department. The script works as intended from FM, I receive the emails, client receives the emails. My office has 3 Macs using 10.7 and 10.8, and FM 12, one is a laptop that does work locally and remotely, the others stay in the office. We currently pay $29 to have 2 DB's hosted on an internet based site. I would like to have about 6-8 DB's hosted, but I believe at that point it would be better to have them hosted locally. Our IT security assessment team found critical vulnerabilities with the version of php (5.3.8) we are running and recommend we upgrade to the latest version php 5.5.10. We are running on Windows 7 Professional with a one-machine deployment. My question is what is the easiest way to update php to the latest version without reinstalling FMS12. We have 80+ iPads using the FileMakerGo app. I've created a table that includes three different layouts. All layouts include the field Employee Name. Employee name = Get(AccountName) I've also created a Privilege Set for users that limits the records they see to records created by their user name. Having a new problem with setting up FMServer 12. Whenever I turn on the SSL-redirect on the web server (using Server.app - i.e. all HTTP traffic goes to HTTPS) the CWP/PHP test breaks. Turn it off, it works fine. Turn it on, it breaks. PHP/CWP Test is arrived at from the FMS Admin Console 'Technology Test' page: localhost:16000/test. It can be opened using the button on the Admin Console, too. Somewhat curiously, the IWP test works fine under either condition: IWP Home page also loads correctly after logging out. I am having some trouble with the web server after installing FMS 12.0.5. This is on Mac OS X 10.8.5. Server.app is currently installed, but it was not present at the initial installation of FMS (if that matters). I can't verify that this was working before Server.app did get installed. I also wasn't the one executing the initial installation of the OS, the OS patches, or FMS. This was a fresh OS install and thus a fresh FMS install as well. The new installer for FMS12 on Mac 10.9 does not work for me. During deployment, the Web Publishing Engine fails to stop and fails to start. I initially tried to deploy with the OS X version of PHP, then tried with the Filemaker-provided PHP and got the same result. Here is the deployment log. I have a very established and reliable messaging system using Send Mail by SMTP server on FMSA 12. It's worked for years until now... We recently changed our mail server setup and are now using Mimecast, but still with our original Exchange server at the 'front end'. Today there has been a performance issue between the Exchange and Mimecast hosts resulting in every message reporting error 1506, even though the messages are actually getting delivered. Hello A customer of mine runs a mainly Windows environment. They have troubles with Java to log in the admin console. The Windows (Server and clients) supporter has not the time to update the server and the clients at the moment (the licences are available). He thinks, updating the server in a first time and run the solution with FileMaker Pro 11 clients could do the trick for the moment. Will that work? Today I found some clients has signed in multiple times to the server. Which caused a major problem like other users/client unable to access the file. So I needed to restarted the server. Then the problem fixed. I guess due to multiple signed in for some clients, this problem occurred. So can anyone please help me, why multiple signed in for some users happens? Hi all - (not sure if this is a "server" question or a "scripting" question - apologies if I'm in the wrong forum) We have FMP Server 12 hosing 50 files or so on an OSX ethernet. We typically open remote files from a small "control" panel on users machines firing an "openfile" script to bring up the right db. All is well except just recently ONE file won't respond to the OpenFile script command - all the others work fine. I can open the file manually via the "Open Remote" menu command - it's right there in the list of hosted files. Can someone throw me a bone? What might I be missing? Cheers, Jeff in VA

I am trying to test FMS so I installed fms_12.0.4.405.dmg which is latest off website. on my Macbook Maverick 8GB w/plenty of space. It says it installs fine and then is opening deployment assistant but just sits there. It displays a blue message to 'click here if it won't deploy.' I click it. Nothing happens. Ever and I get no messages of any kind. I restarted but it did not help. I've read about Java but I have 7.0.45 and that seems right. I have been reading until I am half blind and still am no closer to knowing what to do. I have made sure no versions of FMP are running. Where to look please?

We have a client running Filemaker Server 12.0.4 on a Mac mini over a Gigabit network. Client stations are running OS X 10.7.5. The server was also running this, but we upgraded it now to OS X 10.8.5 in hopes of improvements. We have replaced the Fast Ethernet switches with Gigabit a few months back. The problem was not happening until around 6 months ago and it seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? It is possible that it started following one of the Java updates that broke support for the Filemaker Server Admin interface. We have reinstalled Filemaker Server and are on the latest Java patch. We have a CWP website that is successfully hosted remotely. We have a brand new Mac Mini Server with FMS 12 installed. Everything seems to be jiving correctly, API calls work, etc. We are moving this site to our internal server for modifications/testing. However, throughout the site, the previous programmer(s) used a lot of $_SERVER['document_root'].'/PathToIncludeFile' syntax to specify includes and requires. This is not working properly on the internal server.
