Hey all, I need a way to differentiate a Runtime from someone using a solution using FileMaker. The Get(ApplicationVersion) is supposed to show "Runtime" if someone is using a runtime, but I've found this doesn't work. When I convert a FM18 solution to a Runtime, and definitely launch the Runtime, the Get(ApplicationVersion) still shows "ProAdvanced 18.x" (I forgot the exact version number it displayed.) I've updated to the latest version of FM Pro Advanced 18, and it still doesn't work. I can never get the Get(ApplicationVersion) to display "Runtime" I know Runtimes are deprecated, but I need a function that will go to a different layout if someone i…

When a user is active and I'm trying to close the database manager, I get the message below. The problem is that Christy Lynch's Privilege Set isn't admin. That privilege set is turned off. Her Privilege Set is Editors (second screenshot). I didn't get a screen shot, but a little later, the same thing happened with a different user, but it was presented as "Steph (Steph Appell)". Is there a way to store an email password in a database so that it remains encrypted or at least inaccessible to everyone who uses the database? I rely on the SendMail using SMTP for sending multiple emails, and the email account used to be a shared institutional account whose password didn't need to be protected form others with access to the database. But all institutional/shared emails at my University must now go out using the credentials of one of the shared account's owners, meaning that personal passwords will be stored in the database. So I would want to protect that password. An alternative might be for me to script a dialogue that prompts for the password but ne…

Hi! I'm upgrading a client's FM13 setup to FM19 and am trying to figure out what kind of licensing to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated-- it's so confusing now! Current Setup: Server, 6 desktops, 6 iPads Each desktop will be logged in using the same account (register) and the iPads will be logged in with the same account (iPad). There will be a 3rd user, designer, and that is pretty much it. I understand that the minimum server license is 5 users. Will this work for FM 19? I just updated to FM 19.5.2.201 and our snapshot links will no longer open files. I am able to open files directly. I tired creating a new Snapshot link, and get the following error message. BTW- LaunchPad is the name of the snapshot link. LaunchPadThis XML Package does not appear to be valid and cannot be used. Any ideas? Anyone else having this issue?

My layout "Securities" is from TABLE: SECURITIES and uses FIELD: SOURCE / checkbox with 10 values. Second layout is also from TABLE: SECURITIES where I would like to have only 2 of the values showing from FIELD: SOURCE (one or both may show check/yes). Tried to show example in image below (not using the 10 values). If I create another field on the second layout, how do I call the values from FIELD: SOURCE for that layout?

Trying to found out why it is necessary to run a csv file through Mac Numbers (it is not recognized by Mac Excel), i.e., by importing into Mac Numbers and then exporting again as a csv file before it will be accepted by an external system. Looking at the "before" and "after" csv files with TextEdit, the "before" file appears to be blank, the "after" file is what you would expect - text with commas. FM 19 does not seem to have any relevant options to influence the process at all when scripting the Export Records step. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’m using FMP on a Mac computer. I sometimes want to “Copy All Records” by holding down the Option key and clicking on the Edit button and choosing that option, but sometimes that does not work: 1) When I’m in a field, it does not work. Sometimes clicking outside of the field allows me to access that “Copy All Records” menu item, but sometimes it does not. 2) In some FMP files, I can’t get that option to appear no matter what I do, even if the file is newly opened, and I have not clicked in any fields. Is there a reliable way to access that function from my keyboard from any record? Thanks!

I am new to file maker pro coming from using Alpha 5. Alpha 5 is way way more user friendly but also way more expensive. In alpha 5 once you create a form you can click on any field in that form and then press a button and the table is sorted on that field. No need to open a dialog box each time you want to sort. No need to scroll down to find field. But the next feature is the one I am missing. Once you have sorted the table you open a find by key dialog box. Help. Have written a financial database and need to find a way to eliminate/hide stocks from my portfolio when I have sold all of the shares but need to keep the financials from those stocks for calculations and summaries. Have tried including “archived“ in the key but then becomes cumbersome because I have to include a whole second relationship in each one of my calculations to capture the archived financials.

I would like to display a chart showing performance scores for some shoulder tests as a proportion of affected to unaffected limb with achievement of 100% meaning they have reached their goal - I don't need to show any more than the target set by the unaffected limb. I have been able to get what I want on 2 separate charts, one for testing if the LEFT side is affected and one for when the RIGHT side is affected but I can't get it to work in the one chart (see file attached). I created a solution on Mac/FMP 19 which imports data from a remote mysql database, using the "Actualtech" ODBC driver. Now I need to migrate this solution to Windows 10 running FMP 19. I installed "mysql-connector-odbc-8.0.28-winx64.msi" from Oracle's site, and set up the DSN. I can verify that it works because I can add the external mysql DB to my relationship graph and see all the data in a layout. However, when I try to import the data into a local table, it imports zero records with no errors reported. Here's the script. We installed a database for a new client with its own in-house server and VPN for remote connections. The staff has regularly and reliably connected remotely for years. I have established the VPN connection, and it's rock solid. Great Internet service at each end point. But once I'm in the network, I can't connect to Server. I enter the IP address for the host, and I get "connection failed." Meanwhile, I'm in communication with client and she's working remotely this morning without problems. I'm not sure how my FM client will resolve the IP address because it seems to me it would be confused about whether it's on my in-house network or theirs. But maybe that's …

I recently tried upgrading to FM 19.3 and was greeted with the message, "This version cannot run with expired maintenance." Claris Support helped me resolve this, as we had just renewed earlier this year. However, I was just wondering if this message means that FM is essentially becoming "rental software" that you can't run indefinitely unless you keep paying. That would make the long-term cost quite expensive!

Trying to figure out a way to Export all the records from a FM database to an Excel file - that will Insert a row above each record - and insert only data from Field 2 (column B ) into Field 1 (column A) of the inserted row? I have a script called "generate 100 records" in a FM 13 table called qrgen that is supposed to run another script called "new record" which creates a new record then generates a QR code using the Google API. The script is supposed to run for 100 iterations but it doesn't stop at 100. Working on an inventory db. There are two tables: StockTargetQtys: is a list of items to be stocked with target stock qtys. The other table, StockedITems: is the list individual items that are InStock, OnOrder, etc. There may be items in this list that are not in the StockTargetQtys table. I've never understood why the age of a forum post, in general, anywhere on the internet, about anything at all, matters with regard to anything besides it being a record of the date the post was made. I laugh when I see posters say things like "Sorry about commenting so late on this really old thread, but..." Why the apology? It makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is that it's too much work for readers of threads to observe and make note of dates when reading posts, but then, what do the dates really matter? I have a layout that shows a popover menu that that allows you to to select one of many buttons that perform the same script using different script parameters for each button. i.e., the script parameter for button water is "water", the script parameter for for the button power is "power", etc. The layout is here. The script is as follows. Var1$ also sets the Chart Title. When I select the button water, power, media. etc. I get the appropriate chart title but when I select the JBJ button the chart title defaults to "Power" every time. Pretty strange. See the video. Hello dear Filemaker forum, I am currently in the process of creating a self-made software for my small medical practice. Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with Filemaker yet and am now facing a bit of a hurdle. Every time a patient comes in for a follow-up, I want to create a new entry. To do this, I want to click on the blue button at the top, whereupon a new tab should appear with the current date. For the next visits, you should be able to repeat the whole process. I have a layout with four fields. Two are auto enter fields, one is a field for notes. It is activated by a script trigger to automatically go to that field. I want to use a "OnExit" script trigger to move to another field after I enter data into the notes field. Seems pretty straight forward but it does not work. I use AppleScript step to do many file manipulations using AppleScript. I usually pass the results of the AppleScript to Filemaker by setting a text Field from within the AppleScript step. This has worked fine until I tried to create the following AppleScript. The Goal of the AppleScript was to find out if the Dropbox folder existed and if it existed see if the folder "Client Audio files" existed. If Client Audio files didn't exist then create it. I created a popover and set 12 buttons in it. Once a button is selected in the popover layout I set $$var to the button value via a script. I verify this using the tool function. I then use the script trigger on that button to perform another script that will use the $$var value. The thing I want to happen is when I click on any button in the popover layout, the system will gather the data and then close the overall popover. And then perform a script, maybe. Any thoughts? I'm using FMP 11 and FMP 12 and am having a terrible time setting up lookup and even set field functions. Can anybody send me some relationship example pics, some field definitions pics and some scripts or anything else that would help. I've looked up umteen tutorials online and I cannot get anything to work. I thought it was a problem with my software (FMP11) so I upgraded to FMP12 and still no luck. I'm sure it has to be something simple that I'm missing. I have done this before but that was years ago. A functional file for FMP 11 or 12 would be great. All help is appreciated.

I get the below error every time I call the send mail call. It locks me and the only way out is to kill Filemaker client. I get this error for years now since FM 16 on all the x64 versions. Switch To..., Retry, and X do not work as it keeps looping. Up to now I was able to get around it because I was using the x32 version where the error does not happen. Now I am moving to FM 19 as the FM 16 version has an EOL Oct-2020. The FM 19 version comes only on x64 and I have no way avoiding it anymore. I thought that this will be fixed by now but apparently is not.

I'm running FMS on the new macmini M1 in Big Sur (which I will point out is simply remarkable compared to my old xeon 12 core. Many high resource functions are 40-80% faster) However the new Base Elements plugin with native support for the M1 has a bug in BE_SMTPsend. You cannot send to more than one email at a time now - and this broke a bunch of important scripts in my system. Adding more than one email to either to: cc: or bcc: yields error 55. I took me a whole day to find that this was the problem. Assigning to a variable ($email = "[email protected], [email protected]) or just hardcoding in the command itself both give error 55 and fail. In a basic scheduling database, I have a table of unique Events, that each each record has a unique ID and Date (EventDate), and other fields connecting to another table of possible "Names of Events". I have a field that I set up as a pull down menu to select a category. I would like to have the field content default to the first entry in the list when ever I complete the data required in the layout it is contained in. For example, my field has the following items in its pull down menu : "Please select a Bill type"::"Bill One"::"Bill Two"::"Bill Three":: etc. I would like to have it default back to the upper most selection ("Please select a Bill type"). I have table A that has list of pharmacies with phone numbers addresses etc , linked to table B that has patient's info, from B I want to populate the chosen pharmacy of a patient from A through the relation, the pharmacy name in B is value list driven from A through the link, it does pull the list and when I chose the proper pharmacy I am having difficulty figuring out how to populate the rest of this pharmacy info in B from linked A.

I have my container field in a portal all displaying the correct images or PDF, as required by the User, but it would make sense if I could save them having to 1. Right Click 2. Export File 3. Save File 4. Firstly, sorry if this in the wrong place. Please feel free to move it if necessary. I have a lookup table and associated layout which has largely static data in it. Sometimes I add records to this which I subsequently think that I don't need. However, if a particular field is populated, I absolutely DO NOT want to delete it. Occasionally I don't notice that this field is populated and I go ahead and delete the record anyway. Is there any way that I can prevent myself (I am the only user) deleting these records if this particular field is populated? This is a recent development: I'm unable to select a word (or words) in text fields (and text blocks) using left-mouse-button-double-click. It has worked before just fine, but when I double-click now...nada. I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Monterrey twice; it bricked the first time. (Kernel panic.) I'm having the weirdest bug in FileMaker 19.3.2.206 on my Intel Mac running Big Sur. Switching between Browse and Layout modes eventually leads to the right Pane losing its contents. Sometimes it loses a little, sometimes almost all controls are gone. Quitting FIleMaker and relaunching it fixes the issue, until it comes back a few minutes or hours later. Opening a new window, closing the one that has the issue also makes the panel contents come back. I tried to empty the FileMaker cache; it doesn't seem to help. Any help would be much appreciated to fix this! I tried searching for my issue on these forums, without success. F.

I added two container fields in my database. I put a picture in each and set it as global. Worked fine. Went to a second computer and opened the file and they're not there. Closed my file and reopened it and they're not there. I put them in originally with copy paste. Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks.

I was wondering if the following is possible and, if yes, how to do it. I have a parent/student database. I created a script where I can send an email with information from the parent record out to the parent. It works fine. I want to set off a script to choose certain records (like those that owe tuition) and send out an email to each of the ones in the found set at one time with what they owe. What I need is to know is which emails couldn't be sent and for what reason (if possible, otherwise just the email) and want the script to continue through till the end without stopping on errors. We want to be able to import specific emails into user contacts to keep a record of customer contacts. we are looking at Mail8 and 360 works. No need to actually send emails etc just import received and sent emails specifically. I envisage a column of emails and simply select email and click import to contacts.

Hello All: I wanted to post up here one of my projects (HealthVAULT v1.0 Basic Edition). I've literally tested all my reports and layouts and things seem to be working OK... BUT I'm hitting a few snags: upon adding and committing a record then clicking over to a tab to add related records in a portal I start adding and there's a popup menu that says "link contact to" or something of a kind where you can pick the person who shall be linked to the contact (or med record). on the contacts tab, populating the fields results in the person's ID number being populated but on the meds tab populating the fields results in their full name being displayed. Hello: It seems if if I've somehow gotten myself stuck in an endless loop of sorts on my Vendor Experience database project as follows: 1. Created a script somewhere that closes a window 2. added another script to fire when the last window is closed that should always take a person back to launchpad... that somehow failed 3. added a script to add a new user based on forms input 4. I had a hard drive that had among other things copies of FM Pro 12, FM Pro 12 Advanced, and the two Server products. this hard drive crashed a few years ago and I’m now needing to recover my FM Stuff 2. Howdy FM19 Gurus, I am a simple photographer who has been using Filemaker for my billing and database purposes since FM 7. I have tried a few times to use quickbooks or other apps, but they just don't do it for me. The issue I am having, and maybe it is a simple one, is I am getting a message that says, "Provided name and password cannot be used to access file." Hello: I need to get the pixel measurements of a window so I built a script to help: 1. Set local variables $x, $y, and $title 2. X gets window width (get function), $y grabs the window height (get function), and $title grabs the current window title 3. Hello: I seem to remember (probably incorrectly) that for the longest time Claris/FileMaker had a "Graphics Kit" of sorts that had things like icons for tasks like adding, deleting, sorting, and finding records as well as other FileMaker tasks. Does anyone know if they ever made one of those for 12? If they did; where was it on their website so I can use the Wayback Machine to see if I might find it? Hi everyone: I am at present working on a “just for fun” project to rebuild the original version on an internal tool called Vendor Experience (VX) which was originally a 3-table database one vendor can have many contacts and one vendor can have many addresses thus contacts and addresses can be linked to only one vendor… really simple relationships. the newer versions of VX have had way more features and tools added over the versions like multiple notes for each vendor, contact, or address… a flag that exempts a vendor or address as exempt from body-worn camera activation, etc. so, my logic was rather simple… “What if I rebuild the original three …

Is there any way to export field content from a container field on the server, running as PSOS? Maybe with a free plugin? I was experimenting with BE_ExportFieldContents, but without success. I need to send emails from the server, as the solution runs as WebDirect, and emails may have multiple attachments. I was thinking, instead of adding content to container fields, would it be a viable alternative to store only the links to the files in the DB? Would the server handle that better? Thank you.

I am exporting an XLSX file via Export Field Contents to download the file. On the desktop, this works perfectly, but on WebDirect, the file is empty (no content). The same routine works well with PDF and other files, I just get this strange behavior with the XLSX file export. Any ideas? Thank you.

A very strange problem. I added the default Java calendar supplied with FM19 to a solution. While I can assign the fields from the calendar table to the "required options", I cannot assign the fields in "optional fields". When I open the drop-down in the "All day field" and "Editable field", they remain empty. When I open the drop-down in the "Event style field", I only get this selection: Any ideas how to solve this? LS, What is the fastest way to do relationships? In the 6- days we used to create calculated fields where we combined keys from other fields to create a new link field. Later on FM7+ came along and we were able to use multiple field in the relationship definition at one, but that was pretty slow compared to the old FM6 version. Has the speed of the FM7+ version caught up and surpassed the old FM6 version, yet? Especially using large datasets? Or has a new paradigm emerged in the mean time? Kinds regards, Joost

I'm totally new to Filemaker. Starting out with just-purchased 19 on Mac. I know very little nomenclature. Perhaps there's a name for what I'm talking about, so please name it if there is. I've got a couple K of quotes from various sources, which I collected in another DBMS. I have a table of quote data, and a related table of source data with primary/foreign "source#" key fields. We have a report that summarizes data by category, then subsummarizes by product sku and shows the total sold for that product. We are trying to limit the report to 10 in each category. If there are less than 10 then show them all of course. The data itself is imported from an api in json form, then converted to a csv and converted to records. There are approx 30000 records currently as the api sends us back line items from a pos system. I thought about using the executesql function, but can't quite get it. Dave

Hello all, I am pretty new here. I used to be on but that was a while ago. I am not sure I am posting in the correct area but here goes. I have 360works on my local machine at work(windows 10). I am running FM server19. I am the only one using the email plugin so I put a single license on my local machine instead of adding it directly to the server. Hi Everyone My database has just developed a strange issue after working fine for years and months after updating to FM19 Mac M1 Big Sur 11.4 FM 19.2.114 I go to a set of records (e.g. Invoices or Bills) I do a find for a company X number of records comes up If I step through the records using the default chevrons (top left) I step through the records without issue However if I click the slider to go from the first found record to the last the records do not change. Here's a strange question. I have a parents table and a student table. I have a field in the student table that creates the student name concatenated with their grade. In the parent table I have a field that puts all the parents children and their grades in one line for a printout. I use the substitute(list(student.... function. Works fine. Is their any way to get different fonts for different students in that line? If a student is in a certain grade I need it to be in a different font within the same line. Each parent's children, some in font a and some in font b depending on the grade. I know it sounds a little crazy, but any ideas? Thanks

When I start Filemaker and go to my hosts favorites I see icons of all my favorite files. The names of some of the files are longer than the icon line and I have files named the same except for the end which says 2021 or 2022 etc. I can't see that year so they all look the same. I was looking to see if I can change it from icons to a list but don't see where. There is an option when looking at the hosts files. Is there a way to do it?

I have some graphic pictures on some of my layouts. When you click on them you can resize them. I got a new jpg file and when I want to put it on the layout it says it has to make the page larger but when it inserts it I can't amke it smaller. It's one large picture. How do I make the jpg file smaller to fit properly on a layout? Tha handles just don't come up. TIA. I put it on a separste new blank layout and was able to make it smaller. It's a shame you can tell it not to enlarge your layout and just make it smaller the first time. Anyway, I got it. Thanks.

I have a field, item ID, set to auto enter a serial number and validation set to not empty and unique. If the serial number entered is not unique I do not get an error message when exiting the item ID field. If I turn off auto enter serial number and manually enter a non unique item ID, I do get an error message when I exit the field. With auto enter a serial number turned on I only get the non unique error message when I commit the record. I would like to get the error message when exiting the field when auto enter a serial number is turned on Any suggestions?

I have a table with 200,000 plus records. In that table, 1967 records have a BidID of 2018-XXX. Each of those records has an ItemID. Those records are imported from another table. I want to check for duplicates so as to verify the user did not perform the import twice. ItemID is unique. Here is how I am searching for duplicates First search for duplicate ItemID by placing ! in itemID field then perform find Next enter find mode again and place 2018-XXX in bidID field then select constrain found set in Requests menu. Recently I came across the demand to handle a specific file hosted on a FMS from an other, externally opened FM-file. Utilising the BE- or MBS-Plugin I can run system commands on the server from the client as PSOS to e.g. close the file on the FMS or, for instance, create text files. But to just open the fmp12-file locally in FM 18 or 19 (both are installed) a system command like "cmd.exe /c "/PATH/TO/FILE.fmp12"" does not work as PSOS but worked when run locally. Since the way, imho, would be to call a system level script on the server from the remote file I'm looking for the right syntax which works as PSOS. But I'm open to other ways as well ;o)

Hey everyone, Just looking to see if anyone has come across a good solution to for this. I have a set of records with multiple fields that I need to export to Excel, I'm exporting via script and everything works great with the exception of one of my fields "columns". This field has a multi-line description. When exporting, all carriage returns are stripped. A quick google search turns up some solutions for exporting a single filed and preserving returns but not a group of fields with only one "column" needed the returns preserved. I'm on FM19 Server. Is there a plugin that addresses this issue? Thx

My FPro 18 advanced database is music contents. Table 1 is artist s. Table 2 is music (title of recording and other details) along with 2 portals. Table 3 which is track list and timing. Table 2 relationship Table 2 recNoID to Table 1 FK_recNoID. portal 1 has sideA fields; portal 2 has sideB fields. There is a gap equivalent to the number of portal 1 entries when viewing portal 2. Can't see option to upload image so hope I explained well enough.
