Hello Everyone, I got this file which need to be imported into FileMaker, but getting error while importing as the format is in XML. It pops up XML/XSL import specific dialog and when I choose to continue, it shows an warning saying that "XML/XSL information is not enough to proceed with import/export." Please help me to import this file or any other way to import this data into fields in FileMaker. Thank you for your reply. File.XLS

My main layout has a portal to itself that I've got a dynamic filter on so I can look for similar records and load information from them to the current record or load that record as the current record. All is good there. What I'd like to do is have a button to click on with whatever value is entered in the filter box, and have it switch the that trigger a find in another window. From there then I can use a similar set of options to load data from that other window / un-related table/portal back to the main layout/window. I'm using a separate database as a place to look up possible data from. This DB/table has a few hundred thousand records in it…

Hello, I'm very much new to filemaker pro advanced 18 and would love some help. I really have two separate questions, the first is what is a good place to go for text based tutorials on FMPA 18? The main concern I have is that I am trying to build an app for my company and basically what we really need is the ability to build an input form that anyone can use. I've done this by creating a form layout and adding the fields that I want data to be input. I want to login onto my mac mini as fmserver. In order to do this I went and tried to create an account called fmserver. I've got the following error message "Name is used by another user" I've managed to mount my NAS in the backend. To access the NAS mounted volumes I need to log as fmserver. Hi Guys, I have two tables: - Companies (with Company Data) - Transactions (with Transaction Data) The Company ID (serial number) is liked to Transaction via a Foreign Key. So all good. I have a layout on the Companies Table, where I then have a Portal that lists transactions relating to that company only. Again, so far so good. Now, in the Transactions Table there is a number calculation/number, the Field is called Percentage Increase. Hi everyone, I'm trying to get attaching files go mails generated using FM17 to work. The idea is to attach a variable file to a mail-message generated for a specific record. The filename for the attachment is specific to the record and I've got a field that generates that filename (fileNamejpg01). I'm using the send mail option in a script (which is working) and the option to attach a file by giving a file path. Hi Guys, I may have gone about this the the wrong way, but I have a table that looks like this, with quarter data: Q1 Data Q2 Data Q1/2 Difference % Q3 Data Q2/3 Difference % Q4 Data Q3/4 Difference % 10 12 20% 15 25% 20 25% Each Record in this Table is the Year. Student has guitar class on Monday at 13:00. I have fields for instrument, day of week and time of day (time field). I can format the time field to show only hours and minutes, great. When I make a calculation field to show--- "Your (instrument) lesson is on (day of week) at (time of day)" --- hours, minutes AND seconds show up again in the time of day. Hi Guys, I have a bunch of company data based in Country: USA, UK and Europe. I have a table which has each country listed next to the company. I seem to have an issue in making a Pie Chart which simply shows a split between the records and the information I've added. I thought it was an issue of not summarising groups as records, but even with this pressed, I'm not getting what I thought would happen! Can anyone shed any light on this? Pardon my brute force learning methods I'm using this from another thread here since it's pretty much what I'm trying to learn. My intention here is more to verify what I've got already in my database against the book(s) in my possession. But if there's something missing may as well grab it. I’m new to FMPA 18, and have been “playing” with it over the past few months after being asked by my supervisor to create a small database to keep track of our customers. I've got a tickbox field with values, (a,b, cr, tr, i, h, etc). Single and two character values. The data comes from an sqlite3 file that has each of those values in a seperate table/record with a key relationship to the main table. I'm wanting to set up a one way flow of occasional data into FM where I'll have those values in a CSV format. uuid,value but I want to store them in FM in a single field, as if they were value list items ticked off. Using FM Pro 15 Advanced, and the Save/Send Records as PDF command, the resulting PDF files take on generic names. Is there a way to give these PDF files a unique name. My hope is that the file names could be generated from a field within the database.

We have a table of Items. Each Item has a Category field. Each Item has a Size field. Depending on the Category, the Size may or may not be required. I am trying to use "Validate by Calculation" on the Size filed so that an alert is shown if it is empty when the Category requires that it should be completed but no alert is shown if the Category does not require it. hello I have a puzzling problem that I can not get around. I am based in the UK. I have a API returning a date in the following format YYYY-MM-DD. when i set a date field with this it brings up a "?". this issue I think is that the feild is maybe no configured properly or a date sell will not accept that format. the for matt I want is DD/MM/YYYY. so I made a let function. the problem I am having is the MM is sometimes a single digit. I think I need sleep lol. any ideas. is there a simpler way of just formatting the field. hope this makes sense

We have FM tied in to our department notification systems. We are attempting to use an industrial PLC to trigger one of these notifications. I tried to update two databases from version 6 to 9 -- FM 9 read the files and then asked me for a password. I entered the password I had used, and a dialog said "The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file." I was sure I had used the correct, case-sensitive password. I duplicated the files and opened them in v. 6, and deleted the passwords. Tried to open those in 9 and got the same message. Another post in this forum on the same issue said that since 6 did not require account names, you needed to enter the password in both the account name and password text entry fields. Hi, I am new to FileMaker - currently using Pro 18. I am currently developing a "surgical logbook" to keep track of operations performed, as well as the intricate details of each procedure (things like what equipment was used, what risk factors were present and what complications were encountered etc). Hello, I am trying to download to our CRM all messages from Gmail account using the Gmail API. I have to do a first call to the API to get the first 1-100 messages IDs. I use ChronoSync to backup my hard disk form time to time. FMP 18 refuses to be backed up. It throws always an error. I have been in touch with the CS people but they do not know this either. I have uninstalled it an installed it again but that did not help. Is there anybody out there who can help?

Hello, I've come upon a strange phenomenon, and wonder what could have gone wrong: In layout mode, I select gray solid coloring for a couple of fields and their labels, but in Browse mode (both list and table views), the colors fail to show in some instances. Only in form view, everything is displayed as expected. Neither restarting FM nor the PC (win10) helped. I assume that the solution is simple, but somehow I can't come up with it, therefore: Many thanks in advance for helpful comments!

We have an app that captures a photo using the iPad's built-in camera. Is it possible natively within FM 17 or 18 to export the photo file (as either png or jpg) to the file system of a Windows server? The reason Windows is involved is because the required printer (security card) only has Windows drivers. Hi, I have been using Base Elements command BE_FileMakerSQL in FileMaker script to SQL select data, and return with '<c>' as field(column) delimiter, and '<r>' as the row delimiter. The below line worked before, I dumped a whole FM database with these delimiters showing in text files. But somehow, now if I run below line, it seems to have changed to ?only allow? 1 character for the delimiter, which of course doesn't make sense anyway with varied characters in the data: BE_FileMakerSQL ( $sql_select; "<c>" ; "<r>" ; $fm_file ) The string this returns now looks like for example: 352265<gwgwh<474848<<wegwgw<65755<gwgw .... …

Hi, We're a very small business of 3 people, and since 2015 have been curating our internal database on Filemaker 14 Pro Advanced. We have it set up as follows: iMac with Filemaker running, this is where the database file is saved. We have set it up with a static IP and can access if off site using the IP address of the office. It's still on an older OSX that can run 14. Macbook Pro x2 - these now both run newer Mojave/Catalina, and although they can see the filemaker database we want to open remotely (or via the onsite network), it crashes on launch. hello I want to be able to sort a portal by clicking on the field names. after searching the internet I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCYqlgFflfI&t=33s I have implement it on a basic database and I can not get it working. I wasn't really sure where to post this. I have some legacy Mac Servers running Sierra Server (10.12.6) and FileMaker Server 13. I run Sierra on a MacBook to manage them. I'd really like to upgrade the MacBook to Catalina. My issue is, I know FileMaker Pro 13 won't run on Catalina and I know FileMaker Pro 18 won't access databases hosted on FileMaker Server 13. What I don't know is if there is an interim version for FileMaker Pro that will run on Catalina and open FileMaker 13 format dbs. Anyone know?

I just upgraded my Mac OS to Mojave (10.14.4). I am running FMP Advanced 11.0v4, and my databases are in FP7 format (due to a legacy system at work.) I now have a repeatable "glitch" where if I perform a find in a database and there are no records that come up as results (i.e., no records match the find), regardless which choice I make next (Cancel or Modify Find), the app quits and I keep getting the window to send the issue to Apple. I can immediately re-open the database, though usually the last 2-3 changes I made weren't saved. Other than the obvious option of upgrading the app, does anyone know of a workaround for this? Hi everyone, Absolutely new user to FMPA 18. I managed to cobble a small database together using FMPA 18 on my 2018 iMac (Catalina 10.15.3), and want to share it over a local network with my laptop. I'd like to have the laptop log in via a user account (Data Entry only). I created a user account in the "Manage Security" section, and have made sure the user account has Data Entry only privilege & "write access to all records" is enabled under the advanced tab. 🤔 Hi everyone, I am relatively new to filemaker and trying to study it with my own project. I'm designing a school management program. At this point I still have problems with relating tables. For example; In my school, we have seven classes and fixed amount for fees are levied on each class. I created a table for classes: (_pkclassID, className and Fee). hello all, First time on here. I have a Filemaker 16 solution on a file server which contains 12 files. I am the only one who uses the database which is why it is not on Filemaker server. I have scheduled it so it creates a backup when I close the database. I have a global field that is set with a timestamp when it backs up and the backup script checks that timestamp and only backs it up if that timestamp is more than 3 hours. The issue is that it takes a bit of time to back up the 12 files. Most of these files are relatively static. Suppliers, Job codes, etc. When I back up the files I replace the extisting backups so there is only the one set. I would like to…

Hey all, I am relatively new to using FMP and really have just picked it up so I can add features that help me do my job to my organizations existing system. With time to work from home I've been playing around with a system to help stream line case management. The system includes a needs assessment which details current information (ie. employment status, linkage, transportation, etc). Hello, I have been running FM Server 15 on an AWS instance for about four years and yesterday we were unable to connect to our hosted databases. It turned out to be a connectivity issue with the AWS instance that was fixed by starting and stopping the instance. I'm now able to access the hosted databases remotely, but when I remote in to the AWS instance and try to open the FM Admin Console, it says "This page can't be displayed. Hello! I have two Date fields in my database, Date1 and Date2, that allow someone creating a new record, or searching for a record, to put a date in Date Field 1 and another, later, date in Date Field 2, so expressing a range of dates. The Date2 field can be left blank, it can be the same as Date1, it can be later than Date1, but it should never be earlier than Date1, so I want to build in a way to either stop the user from entering an earlier date in the Date2 field, or to at least warn them that they need to reenter the date correctly. The admin credentials for the server install have been lost to time, however we would like to change the server that the installation is running on due to the hardware being so old (Windows Server 2003). Several forum contributions quoted "position" formulations containing variables for occurrences. I am at a loss why my simple script (FM 17, win10) containing a loop (stepwise increasing $i) which includes Set Variable [$colon[$i]; Value: Position ( Filme::Besetzung; ":"; 1; $i)] doesn't yield any result - unless I use numbers rather than the variable, testwise. Hi, in the attached database, we collect a range of readings per date. I need to calculate the median for each element (eg temperature, pH etc) across a range of dates. There is one record per date. The user will change the range of dates depending on what time period they want to view. The data doesn't need to be summarised by anything. In the past I used Podio to organise my daily/weekly workload. In that setup I would login (via my browser), and immediately be notified of tasks: Outstanding (tasks which had been scheduled, but not actioned, or actioned and marked as completed etc), today's calls and future tasks. Podio was integrated with a Google Calendar which made tracking very easy. I'd like to try to create something similar so I receive a pop-up message/task list, when I log in to FMPA at the start of each day. Is this something I might be able to achieve as an absolute newbie? Thanks

Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find an answer to my problem. I am importing a list of stock items from various suppliers using a CSV file provided by the supplier. When I launch FM Pro 18, it will only start as a background service on my Win 10 version 1909 PC. FM 14 starts fine, 16 will not, 17 OK, 18 will not... The versions that do not run do start as background service but no interface. Hoping someone will have an answer for me. Thanks...

I all, I have a (text) field in my Music Database that has the full file path for every mp3 of my external HDD (around 50.000 classical music mp3s). It would be wonderful if I could use this file path (in text format) to open externally (or internally) the related mp3 file on my external hard drive in a (hopefully) simple way. Hello, I am looking for examples to get AVPLayer working within filemaker pro. All my video files are remotely stored. Those video files will never be stored within a container. I do have too many video files and they are way too big to be uploaded in filemaker. I found FileMaker Pro now have AVPlayer and using a url is an option. Have an odd situation, just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this. We have a solution that's been in use for 10+ years now - so started I think as a v7 database. Our developers are now running v18 while most clients are v16 or v17. I made an adjustment to a script last week to an Import Records script step. It's all internal, just importing a record from one table to another. In v18 the mappings all look and behave correctly. However, for any clients on < v18 the mapping of the fields was totally messed up. Not off by just one field but all over the place. I have a Import button on my layout that will import excel file , it works well ,but the problem is when importing the file is that it also imports the blank data from the excel. It will add up to my space every time i will use this function, and it will cause problem someday. I’m trying to enter values from a value list based on a calculation field. Specialists::ActiveSpecialists is an unstored text calculation field. The value list ActiveSpecialists reads values from this calculation field. On a new records layout the VL is attached to the Prescriptions::Specialist text field so I can select a name from a drop down list. I had this old database (still working fine) that I believed was not configured properly especially the relationship parts (please check uploaded tables relationship). The database was used to record users (staff) leave days by Start to End and calculate the number of leave days taken... this exclude the weekends and holidays. The database still works fine but I want to re-do it properly this time. My confusion is why do Leave Table and Holidays Table have many to many relationship? Hi, I have got a problem: In Scripts it was an alternative to Activate/Inactivate script steps. That option is no longer avaible in my FM 18. My question is pretty basic stuff I think. I am using 360Works to Sync Salesforce as my hub database and FM as the spoke database. During the configuration of the spoke database, MirrorSync config dialog states that MS is not installed on the FMS. I ran the installer on the machine but from the documentation I assumed it didn't need to be listed as a connected plugin like the 360Works email plugin for example. I'm on FM17. Has anyone else experienced issues like this?

I am planning to upgrade my stuff soon. Does FMA 18 open .fp12 files or has it changed again? If so, will it convert or do I need one or several older versions to convert to the current format? Hi I have a script that is triggered when an OnObjectEnter that stores the Get(ActiveFieldContents) from the field in variable as well as doing a SetField on field url2. It then fires a load card window with a webviewer where the url is set to be url2. In the data viewer and in the dialog box I get the correct field data for the portal row clicked, see the properly formed url2 but the webviewer only loads the "https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/" and is missing the ActiveFieldContents which is appened after the last / to create a proper URL. Hello, Having a bit of an issue with tab objects, blinking, or flashing in Web Direct, when moving mouse over tab object. All states (active, inactive, hover, and in focus) are set to "FFFFFF", but on hover, the tab object appears to go Transparent, which creates this sort of flashing effect. Could this be CSS related? I have a simple API endpoint I have working in both Postman and PAW that uses cURL. It does not work when I use insert form URL and paste into the CURL section. I dont understand why you cant just PASTE the text from Postman or PAW into the CURL Options WITHOUT having to do some convoluted text string manipulation. Any ideas on how to do this easily without PLUGINS or TEXT MANIPULATION? Shocking that FMP18 doesnt support this natively. Hi, As a complete novice to FMP, I'm attempting my very first database. We rely on storing our contracts on Google & Dropbox. I've been trying to either embed the pdf's into a "tab", or (my preferred option) to have an "Add URL" button to link to the online pdf. I tried adding a field and copying and pasting the URL, but it's not clickable, and I'd need to add another field for each pdf/contract. Is there a better more efficient way to do this? Thanks Steve

I am trying to insert into a container field the file path of a mp4 video as a reference. I am getting an error equal 3. I've followed some example and do not understand why I am getting this error. To try to explain the setup as succinctly as possible: Database is running on a FM17 Server (on a Windows virtual(?) machine... Our IT department handles that part). The FM database does a number of imports every morning from our primary (4D) database, using an ODBC driver, but I have not found a way to have those imports run successfully from the server, so I have them running on an instance on a secondary user account on my desktop computer. I have a field called Price. I need to create another field called calculated price that will add a percentage depending on the value of the original Price field. Example: If the Price is $100.00 or more Subtract 10% from the price If the price is $10.00 or less Subtract .25% If the Price is between $10 and $50.00 Subtract .5% If the Price is between $50 and %100.00 Subtract .75% and so on and so on... Hi All, Apologies for perhaps being in the wrong part fo the forums for this query! I'm on FMP16 right now, and I've a container field that I use to display square pictures of people. Due to different layouts, the container is landscape on one, and portrait on another (ie wider on one, and taller on another). Because the only option in FMP 16 is to FIT the image, when the container is wider than tall, either the image is distorted or there are gaps on the sides, depending on whether I've got the 'maintain proportions' box checked or not. I have a FMP 15 Advanced product application with a few hundred entries. Most entries have a photo shown in a container field. The photo has been entered as reference only. Most of the entries have multiple photos, showing multiple aspects of the item. For now, viewing the other photos in full size requires going into File Explorer and navigating to the directory holding the photos. Each item necessarily has it's own directory. This is cumbersome and seldom done unless absolutely necessary. If I insert a document, I can double-click it to open it. Hi, I am using the Base Elements plugin Execute SQL command to select SQL on a table in another FileMaker file. For a file with many fields and quite a lot data in some fields, this times as about 1 minute just for SQL SELECT command for 1,000 rows. I haven't used MBS (monkeybread software) plugin yet, but I wonder if anyone knows if it is significantly faster? I.e. BE_FileMakerSQL vs. MBS(FM.SQL.Execute..) - is one significantly faster? Actually, I guess this could apply to macOS Mojave as well, but is there any way to get the Send Email script to work when creating a Runtime solution in macOS Catalina? I'm using FileMaker Pro Advanced 18 to create my runtime solution. I created a button on my main menu to send an email. When I click the button in High Sierra (and all previous macOS versions) it works. But in macOS Mojave and Catalina, nothing happens. I have searched the forum and internet and not found an answer to my delima. I have a solution with a scripted import of a csv file. I do not want import dialog (e.g. mapping), so I have it set to no. I don't know the name of the file, only that it is a csv file. If I leave the filename out of the import dialogue, the default SHOW filetype in the open file dialog is for a filemaker database. The user needs education to change the SHOW to csv or all. That is undesirable. In my file I have two related tables and 5 unrelated tables. I have 5 layouts. In the header I use: <<$$Title>>: <<$$LayoutName>> to display the script results. The scripts are 1. Set Variable [$$Title; Value: Get(FileName)] And 2. Set Variable [$$LayoutName; Value: Get(LayoutName)] Both scripts are combined into a single script that is triggered when "Entering" the layout. The problem: Some layouts return the Layout Name incorrectly. eg. Layout = Futures Studies returns Futures and Layout = Contract Information returns Contract. Thoughts?
