I have some simple databases that I like to give to a friend who does not have FMP. Can somebody advise me if there is a DB application that allows one to export date to or import data from FMP? Or even better do a save as? It is important that the new DB can be edited so that my friend can add stuff or delete. Also, if it is easy to create the DB and maintain it would be great - programmer skills are very limited. BTW. It needs to be able to run on a Mac and be a standalone application. Preferably Plug and play and easy to use. Looking forward to your suggestions ...

I notice FileMaker 18 technical requirements (https://www.filemaker.com/products/filemaker-pro-advanced/18-technical-specifications.html) requires a minimum 10 year Windows PC (Windows 7 SP1 Professional Edition) but with only minimum 1.5 year old Mac operating system (macOS Sierra 10.13). Even the RAM requirements are double for the Mac. This is making it very difficult and wasteful to support Mac installations as perfectly useful Mac computers are incompatible at all or with major OSX upgrades which are not always simply installed. What is happening here with FileMaker or Claris because this is not a equal playing field.

LS, We are using the MediaManager plugin for manipulating images and store them in a shared folder. This folder is then accessed even thorough the web. The problem I encounter is the following : Some clients work with Terminal Server. The image is manipulated and then exported to a folder ( on a shared folder on MacOSX ). The folder has the correct rights settings, but the file just gets administrator rights, nothing else. FMClients kan view the files ( photo's ) on both platforms, but websites can't download of display the file in a browser. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance !

I don’t remember seeing any posts about problems associated with using El Capitan and FileMaker Pro 11 or for that matter 12.0v5, & 13.0v5 I have several files written in FileMaker Pro 11, and I would like to continue to use them in 11 and eliminate the time-consuming conversion to FileMaker Pro 14. With all of the problems surrounding FileMaker Pro 14 and (Servers) I'm reluctant to upgrade to El Capitan in fear that El Capitan will end up corrupting my older files. Has anybody experienced any problems using El Capitan with FileMaker Pro 11? I would appreciate hearing about your experiences.. TIA, Lee

Does anyone know whether it is possible to print directly from Filemaker to a Dymo Labelmanger Wireless PnP (I'm not talking about the widely known LabelWriter, but the ribbon-type printer from Dymo). USB or Wifi doesn't matter that much to me. Problem though is that I can currently use it only with Dymo’s own Labeling Software, but would like to print using FMP.

In every other Mac program that I am familiar with, if one command clicks on the window title you get a hierarchical view of where that particular document lives on your computer. This does not seem to be the case in FMP12 or FMPro 14. Am I doing something wrong, or is this capability not supported in FM? Thank you!

After being able to avoid this for as long as I could, I need to run some tests of solutions I've developed on Windows. I'm a Mac guy. I'm looking at VM Fusion as the emulator but I'm extremely confused on what version of Windows I should purchase. I've seen both 32 and 64 bit versions, OEM versions, etc. This will be with FM 13 client, possibly server too down the road. Has anyone been through this recently who can offer some suggestions or guidance? Thanks in advance.

We have several iMacs running snow leapord. Each has 8gb ram. FMServer 11 is running on a windows server 2008 r2. The iMac users are using FMPro ver. 11. Each time they print, filemaker crashes when finished. If they try to print to the network printer or print to a pdf, it crashes. Any suggestions?

I am going with a mac mini, maxed at 16gb, and with four cores, either the current or the new ones, which I expect to have pci ssds (which is no big deal if you'll be running your db from ram anyway), for a 50 strong company with 1-6 concurrent connections, for the time being. I ‘ll have for starters about 2-3 go clients, 5 desktop clients, and the rest will be webdirect. On average I would expect 3 people to be inputting at any time and about another 3 browsing the db. Are there any red flags that I should be aware of?

Not sure if this belongs here, but no other forum seems to fit either. We have a file that is really very simple (three tables, one relationship). One of three persons can work on this file. We have agreed that whenever one of us makes any changes to the file, they will immediately email the modified copy to the other two persons. I know there are better solutions to this, but we don't want to get into that just now. Here's the problem: Whenever one of us sends the file to the other two it comes through as document in unknown format in binary, even though the file has an .fmp extension. When downloaded, the file appears on the receiving computers with no icon. Dou…

Attached is a screen shot of my attempt to save a file to a folder.  Sometimes, FM identifies that I'm working in a folder on my desktop (eventually) and, when this box opens, it lists that folder down below so I can just select it.  But sometimes no matter what I do, I cannot get it to save the file where I want it.  I end up having to save it to my desktop and then moving it.  Situation:  I have a folder on my desktop with an FM file in it.  I double-click to open the FM file and then select Save As.  But it will not show that folder for me to specify saving a copy into the same folder on my desktop.  If I select Desktop, it wants to save it there.  …

I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues or experience creating an install package using the script provided by FMI. I've followed the instructions on the Network Install Guide and have not found any success. All I get is a 4KB ARD.pkg file which does nothing. I have the FM12.mpkg, AssitedInstall.txt, and Registration.app in a FMP12 folder When I use the script this is what I get ls: *.pkg: No such file or directory ~/desktop/FM12Remote cp: FMP12/ is a directory (not copied). pkgbuild: Inferring bundle components from contents of FMP12/AppleRemoteDesktopPackage pkgbuild: Adding top-level postinstall script pkgbuild: Wrote package to FMP12/ ARD.pkg H…

Hello, I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion. I am using fmpa10. When I tried to open a database file I received an error message saying: "BioASys.fp7" could not be opened. (Permission Denied) I tried opening other files in fmpa10 and got the same error. I also have fmpa11 on my system and the files opened ok in fmpa11. Does anybody know how to set the correct permission so that I can open my file. Thanks, George

Need to have a way to click in & out of fields from that distance as well as the ability to discern mouse location. I didn't see a Forum called "Dumb Questions", so since Mange Databases is related to Relationships I thought I would ask here. I can't figure out why my new installation of FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced will not recognize the Shift-CMD-D keystroke to manage databases. It does nothing. I have gone into the OSX keyboard preference panel and went through all of the sections for keyboard shortcuts, including all the services, and I don't see this duplicated in any active config, yet it still does nothing when pressed in FileMaker regardless of mode I am in. Anyone else see this and have a solution? Since you use this frequently it would be nice to have it working. …

Our employees carry around HID branded proximity cards for physical access to the building, and I'd like to allow employees to login to my FileMaker solution with these cards instead of typing in their username and password all the time. This would speed things up and encourage people to carry their cards with them. I've been told that the OMNIKEY 5325 CL is the device best suited for this, and they advertise Mac OS X compatibility, but I wanted to hear from fellow FileMaker users if this is a feasible idea or not. I'm envisioning something akin to how a magnetic card (like a credit card or driver's license) is read in by a card swiper via keyboard wedge simulatio…

Why does FM Pro Adv. when hosting change IP address? I use a 2nd computer on our network running FM 10 to connect to the 1st computer running FM 9 Adv. From time-to- time, the IP address for sharing on the host computer will change and I'll have to add a new IP address under Remote Access. Why is that and can I prevent the IP address from changing?

Has anyone integrated bluetooth barcode scanning with Filemaker and Filemaker go iPad? I need to be able to scan VIN's and other simple barcodes and have it fill in a field and remove the focus from the field (like hitting tab or touching the next field). I presume this is common functionality. Any recommendations on a brand of scanner? I need it to connect quickly without a lot of waiting (after the initial pairing). Thanks.

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this thread; I couldn't find one that looked more appropriate. Does anyone have experience running a FMP db on a MacBook Air? Is the air up to the task? We are developing a Contact/Documents database of moderate size (we are a small non-profit), and looking into purchasing a MacBook Air. Has anyone used FMP with an Air, and if so, have you had any problems? I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

I am working on a solution with a very large relationship graph. The last 1/8 of the graph only shows the TOG connectors and none of it is editable. I have tried two things. 1. increased memory up to 256 - but no changes 2. accessed file remotely in 2 different ways. a/ VNC direct to client server (Mac Mini - 2G ram - fm Memory set to 256) b/ on macbook pro (4gig ram - FM memory set to 256k), via filemaker network In both cases, exact same result. At the breaking point, just one scroll arrow click downward and TOG's lose text and editablity. (see attachment) I also have gone through the entire graph and minimize all TOG's which should have freed …

I've got a user who gets a "permission denied" message when trying to open a DB, the error refers to a related DB of the one being opened. I can access his account from my Mac, and from a fresh user account on his Mac, suggesting there is something amiss in his home folder. So I tried deleting any permissions and cache files I could find relating to FMP. I also tried deleting his login keychain. I've run out of ideas, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

When I try to modify a layout with FMPA 11.0v2 on my iMac (3.06Ghz, Intel Core Duo,4GB memory 1067MHz Ram, OSX 10.6.4) scrolling and mouse movements result in a fractured display as though an error occurs in the refresh rate. (See attached files.) In addition, if I make any changes to the solution on a Macbook using FMPA 10 and OSX v 10.4.11 then use the solution on the iMac, the text colour changes from black (0,0,0) to dark gray (51,51,0) making it less legible when shared on the Macbook. I have had to return the text colour to black now at least 5 times. My solution is installed in a department that currently uses FMP 9 and I have not been confident to upgrade their …

Hi all, we're about to migrate from a FM Server 9 running on a Mac G4 with a SCSI setup, to FileMaker Server 11 on a new machine. We're thinking of the latest Mac mini or the new low-end iMac - external FW hard drive for backup or a Drobo. Any thoughts on which machine would be the best suitable for our needs?! 3 databases with a total of 10-15 people. Thanks in advance Anders

In a small network with a new 22.5" iMac w/4GB serving FM 9 to 2 older iMacs w/2GB running 8.5 for a file about 50MB with 13 tables and the main "data" table having 64 fields and 79K records to date. All the scripts and relationships seem to be running fine but there seems to be an unusual data corruption issue -- sometimes a portion of the 79K records disappear while not crashing the computer or the file -- the file has been "recovered" using FM 11, compacted, copied to another disk and back and the processed repeated, Disk Utilities/Permission run, etc.; early on, about two weeks ago there was a repair via "recover" that was assumed to address the oddity, but the i…

I guess that's the right subject description. I'm going to be needing to buy a Mac Pro to run a specific solution. There won't be that many users hitting on it, but the table sizes are in the millions of records. Most of the tables/fields are fully indexed. So, the question is, how much is too much? Is there such a thing as too much RAM? Do I need the fastest processor speed? Or is hard drive access speed more important? Right now the solution is about 20 GB. It shouldn't grow to more than 40 GB. Thanks Christopher

Hi there, I have an interesting problem with a container field which is a calculation (result is container) and it references a text field, which then has a file path entered. I am connected to the file server via NFS (this cannot be changed). The permissions on the remote directory are read and write. The text field = imagemac:/directoryName/fileName However all I see in the container field is "The file cannot be found: Test.jpg" The way the remote directories have been mounted, using NFS, does not seem to put a volume name under directory /Volumes. So it appears as if the directory is on the local machine. I've come across a similar post …
