If this is posted in the wrong area, please feel free to move it where it needs to be. We are looking at deploying a pretty large system to our three office locations. We are using the separation model, and will be placing an interface file at each of these locations that connects to a centrally located set of files that will store all the data for all three locations. My question revolves around the bandwidth necessary between the three locations to accomplish this without slowing the entire system down to an unusable speed. I've consulted with my network staff am still stuck. Here is what I have: the appropriate IP address for our Exchange Server in the SMTP Server Address, the correct Port, SMTP Enabled checked, a legitimate recipient e-mail, Errors checkbox marked. I have used my own e-mail adddress for the From Address as well as my own account & PW for the SMTP authentication. I have a nightly FileMaker script for maintaining my db. I am trying to use the FMS (Windows 10.0) Schedule Facility to run the script. It continually terminates and tells me there are scripting errors. The script runs perfectly when started manually. I am guessing that there are some script steps (i.e., Print Setup)which are not permitted when running a FileMaker script from the server. Does anyone know where that list is? Hi All, Mac OS X..5.8 fms10A setting up a shell script backup from fms backup to shared directory on same hard drive, as per ConnectingData Wim Decorte method. Hello, I am reposting this with a different subject title because the topic focus has changed... Our organization changed IP addresses on our machines to private subnets. In conjunction they also changed the machine name. Now, the problem I am having is that I am not able to launch the Admin Console from the webpage. I get a 403 error that says: FileMaker Server has encountered an error: Access to the specified resource () has been forbidden. If I run it on the server and use localhost IP instead of the ip of the machine, the admin console web page comes up. Hello, Our orgainzation is renumbering IPs throughout, and our FileMaker server machine will also be renumbered. We are running FMSA10 on Windows Server 2008. Does this present any special problems for the server, other than adjusting any address I have coded into the various areas on the admin console? I have not been able to find anything about this in the docs. The machines are named, so users should not be effected by the change. Hi All, I have a mystery on my hands. I am running FM Server 9 on a dedicated Windows machine. I have clients (mostly Mac)that connect via Open Remote using FMP 9. So here is where it gets a little strange. I have one, and only one, computer that cannot find the server when you go in and 'open remote' and enter all the settings. I've had 2 people check the settings so I think we aren't overlooking something obvious. The file has been hosted and working for over a year. Small business here, 10 users on the LAN, 5 more accessing via WAN, 6 hosted databases, no web publishing yet, fast internet connection, routers doing NAT. Hi, not sure if this is in the right place or not. I'm helping out a company with their FileMaker databases. We have a client version, as well as the server version on the server machine. While the client version was on C: everything was fine and it could see the FM server database files. The IT guy decided that he needed more space on C: so he uninstalled the client version and installed a new client on a shared drive (E:). Now when we run the version on E: it can't see the database files (which are still also on C:). I've tried local, as well as a remote connection but it's just not finding it. I can no longer access the admin console. In reading some previous posts, it seems the best thing would be to upgrade. I'm at 9.1 so it looks like I'll have to upgrade first to 9.2 then 9.3. However, it wants me to shut things down. If the console doesn't work how do I get into the server to shut things down? HELP! I also have version 10 that I haven't used yet. But I would have the same problem. It seems like a catch 22.

I ran into a tremendous problem. I'm running server 9 on an XP machine. I added some files to the server and couldn't open them because it says I went over the limit. First, does anyone know the limit? Second, any workaround? Third, does 10 allow for more? Thanks Mike

I am having a problem with FMS 10.0.2.206 on Windows 2003 Server running as a VMware virtual machine. I know the problem is happening when a user tries to open a database and it asks for a login. (FMS is set to use external authentication via AD, so usually anyone on the domain does not need to login.) Most of the databases require AD credentials for users to login. Authentication with AD credentials fails. However, I am able to open the FMS sample db (which doesn't require AD credentials) without a problem. Hi I have been using Filemaker Server for a while now with no problems. I have needed to install WAMP on the same server, however the php.ini file that Apache is referring to appears to be in C:Program Files (x86)FileMakerFileMaker ServerWeb Publishingpublishing-enginephp As opposed to where WAMP seems to think it is. After editing the php.ini in the Filemaker folder i can confirm that this is the one that is in use. Is there anyway I can disable this and make Apache refer to the php.ini file in the default location? I do not required IWP. Thanks

Hi, In FMSA v.10, server scripts can now export records... That was good news I was waiting for. But export file destinations in FMSA 10 are restricted to two specific destinations (and their subfolders): < Documents> and < Temporary files >. So what if I want to export to a different folder, or even to a different server ? I note that Exporting is not subject to these restrictions using FMPro. Have the FM developpers explained why these restrictions exist on the server? TIA Bobbby

Trying to get FMSA10 running on Windows Server 2008 and found the following item mentioned under known issues: "1.2. Installing FileMaker Server on Windows Server 2008 requires the user Anonymous to be enabled. When installing FileMaker Server on Windows Server 2008, if the user Anonymous is disabled then the Deployment Assistant cannot find IIS 7 (Internet Information Services 7.0). Enable the user Anonymous before installing FileMaker Server." Is the Anonymous User just a user account that needs to be created with the name "Anonymous" or is it related to IIS? We have a customer presently using FileMaker Pro 7 under 32-bit Win2003. They are upgrading their hardware and their OS to 64-bit Win2008. Will a new FileMaker version work well in their new OS? Any other migration issues to be aware of?

I'm currently running FileMaker Server 10 and am hosting 4 databases. I have roughly 12 users accessing the system. My question is in regards to the list of databases available on the Open Remote File dialog. I know that in the Server configuration that you can set the option to "List only the databases each user is authorized to access" option which works good, but it is a bit of a pain to have to enter your username/password to show the list, then enter the username/password again to enter the database. Is there any way to accomplish the same security without having to enter your credentials twice? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I am looking to upgrade a FM8 Server, as well as around 10 client machines (all Windows). I've tried to read through the PDF that comes with the download. Is there anything to be especially careful of when upgrading? Can we install 10 on a separate drive and still leave 8 active while we move things over? My FM Server is behind a corporate firewall and so I often access it through our VPN server. However, our server is often slow and prone to disconnects. We also have an SSH server which seems reliable. To access my FMS I simply type the alias "SSH-FMS" into the Terminal. I am running server 10 advanced on a windows server2003 network with mostly windows clients running FMP 10. I have a little file that serves up some PDF documents from a shared network folder. The path to these files is stored and a calculation field that results in a container. The solution will copy a pdf from the network folder to the users temporary directory and open for them to view. I am working with a computer that we have been using as a filemaker server for years. We have no problems sharing the databases over our internal network. I am now exploring the PHP in filemaker server 9. I am trying to enable web publishing. I select PHP in the list (along with XML and XSLT) and click continue from there I can chose the deployment type (single machine, two machines, three machines, etc.). I am configuring a web server in my network for custom web publishing. I have 2 physical Windows 2003 servers, Server 1 is an IIS server and the 2nd is a FMS 9. I'm running FMS10 and have IWP enabled in the admin console. When I try to access the file via browser using the ip address from the Server Overview screen, I get an Apache page with the, "Seeing this instead of the website you expected?" message. Awhile back I had a total screw up when Java was updated and Server couldn't support... I'm sure we all remember that. Consequently I've been a little hesitant to do any updates since. This is an issue we've run into since installing FM 10 Pro on a Windows 2003 terminal server. Previously, User Name in Filemaker was set the first time a user would log in and launch Filemaker. Now, when users log on, their User Name is being set as the name that was used to register/install FM 10 on the Windows 2003 machine (our database guru). So, on the admin end in Filemaker, it looks like we have multiple people logged in as our database guru, which is obviously causing some confusion when we need to figure out who is actually logged on. Is there a fix for this, rather than having each person manually reset their User Name in Filemaker-Edit-Preferences? Thanks.

On restarting the Filemaker Server (9), all of the databases dissapeared from the library/Filemaker/Data/Databases folder. I was able to restore from backup, lost half the day's work, but cannot find the original files or any clue as to why they would just dissapear. has anyone seen this?

Hi, Is there any application that can do real time file mirroring for filemaker? The problem with most applications is with large files (5 Gb+). They copy the whole file instead of just the modified bytes. Thanks for any help!

Windows 2003 Server stopped Filemaker web publishing. After digging for 3 days FM Tech support and I have narrowed it down to a problem with port 5003. The machines are on the same LAN with no firewall. cports revealed that there are no services listening on port 5003 on the server. It began last Saturday after running a Java Update. (Red Herring?) I have uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled in every sequence I can think of. Upgraded from Server 9 Advanced to Server 10 Advanced The Database Server and Web Publishing Engines are running. Hi everyone; I'm inexperienced at managing a FileMaker server. I have FMS 9 running on Mac OS X Server Leopard. It's been running flawlessly for a year. Today the database suddenly became unavailable. I started the FileMaker Server Admin Console and saw that the database server wasn't running. I started it. Now the database is available to users and the FileMaker Server Overview screen says there are 12 hosted files and 8 Clients. Which is what it should be since 8 people have resumed using it. Ok, trying to help a client. Personally have SELDOM used FM Situation: Small office is using FM5 and has their database stored on host computer 1. I have placed database file in unique folder and have it opened on host computer 1. Used open remote to open database on guest computers 2 and 3. All three have been able to add/delete information from guest computers 2 and 3. All three computers are shut down at the end of the evening. I heard some discussion at filemaker devcon about running filemaker server 10 on a dedicated machine with the drive partitioned by 3. One partition for the operating system, one for the database folder and one for backups. Anyone have an opinion on whether this would be a good idea and will it work?

Hi, I've created a database file that needs to be accessed by three clients concurrently, and I own three computers of the PC variety. One has Vista Business installed and the other have Windows XP currently installed.... so.... the question is! Can I install FM Server 10 on the Vista machine and FM Pro 10 on the two XP machines, and access the database on all THREE machines simultaneously? Hey all - I need to create a mirror-like server setup for one of our clients. They are having issues with their ISP which makes their database access slow as heck to and from us. I was wondering if anyone has successfully "mirrored" FMS10ADV databases somehow, and if you have, please explain how you did it, any caveats, etc. Essentially what I'm looking for is a mirroring of the database as quickly as possible when their internet is "good", and a synching later when it's down, very slow or whatever. FMS 9.0.3.326 on Windows XP been working fine, until I decided I wanted to log in to change some backup schedules. I get the "Admin Server Connection Error" after creating a new schedule, and then adding my login info for a script. so I have read all the posts that I can find. I have rolled back my Java version to 1.6_07 (also tried 1.6_05 only) all the ports needed are open. any ideas? somewhere there was the advice to turn off web proxies. I'm a bit of a novice, so not sure how to do that. I'd like to keep the internet available to the server machine if I need to download/install any future updates. thanks in advance for any replies!

I've been running a small web server with FMPro 5 Unlimited for a number of years on a PowerMac G4 with Mac OS 9. Within the last month, the server has been losing HTTP service, where the website is unreachable. FMPro still appears to be running fine on the machine. The problem is corrected when I restart the FMPro software, but then the HTTP goes down again a day later. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening? I can still ping the server from other machines so the network doesn't appear to be the issue. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

My organization is running into the 125 file limit on our current Filemaker server and I am considering creating an additional server to address this problem. Our current version of Filemaker server is 5.5 and it is running OSX 10.4 on a macpro. Can a file on one filemaker server link to a file on another filemaker server? Any help or alternative suggestions would be appreciated.

We currently run FileMaker Server on a single drive on an Xserve, OS and Data. We backup our FileMaker DBs Internally Externally and Offsite. I am thinking of changing the configuration to a single drive with the OS and a RAID0 Mirror using the other two bays. The Mirror would contain only FileMaker data. Does anyone see anything wrong with using TimeMachine to backup the OS drive? I can't imagine it taking long or using a lot of resources since it won't be changing much. My thought is the data will be safe because we have multiple redundant copies plus the redundancy of the mirror. Then we can easily restore the OS drive if that fails from the TimeMach…

Hey Now, I have a question about software updates. When I upgraded to Server 9 a couple of years ago I just happened to do a Mac OS Software update that totally screwed me up. If I remember correctly, the JAVA update made it so Server 9 couldn't even open. I ended up calling FileMaker, it was a complete mess. In the end, I had to reinstall / restore the whole server to go backwards to 'erase' that update. It really and totally screwed everything up.... since then I've been (understandably) afraid of doing normal updates. I've noticed some really odd things happening soon after I updated FMServer from 10.0v1 to v2. Twice now it didn't see the drive/directory where the DB files were being held and also the backup folder. This is after the server had been up and running for a few days. I know that the directories are valid. Once External Authentication stopped working in the middle of the day. After rebooting the server it was back up and running. When either of the two abovementioned problems happened, the console decided to stop responding. I couldn't close any files or disconnect any users. Don't know if this is the right place to post it because it is a server and scripting question. I want to be able to send a scheduled email. My business is a security business that runs 24/7. I want to run a script that will export a PDF of the day's actions, attach it to an e-mail and send it. I see that most of that is NOT web compatible, so what I was thinking is to just run a "create a record" script in Server so when that record is created in FMP, then through a conditional if/then thing based on account would trigger the script that would email me. I have Filemaker 10 Advanced server. I forgot my user ID so I deleted FM Server 10 and reinstalled it with the update. It is still asking for a user id and password. 1. Is there a way to retrieve this info? If not, is there a way to delete everything from the mac so that I can reinstall FM-10 server and create a new user id and password? I just fininshed with the most recent updates to Leopard Server. When I try to start the FileMaker Admin Console, I get a TextEdit box labeled admin_console_webstart.jnlp. I do not get into the Admin Console. The IWP part of the server is working, but I cannot get to Admin part of FileMaker 10 Server Advanced.

I have an old iMac G3 OS 9.2 running on FileMaker server 5.5. This one is probably getting old, but I have an ongoing problem with not being able to use Server Admin to contact the server, because it can't use ports 16000 and 16001. The port situation is out of my hands, I work for a very large corporation and I'm not in IT. The FMS admin tool says it's running but clients get an error "..conneciton refused" when connecting. I've already tried reloading FMS but with not success. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Just did the latest updates to OS X 10.5 today, and now FileMaker Server Admin, on both FMSA9 and FMSA10, won't start any longer. If I go to http://servername:16000 then click on the server admin link, it asks to start in Java Web Start, then just opens the .jnlp file in TextEdit. Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas on how to fix? - John

I have been put in charge of finding out the behaviors of FM Server 9 under a UPS. After a power failure I have a script to close open files (fmsadmin close) then stop the server (fmsadmin stop) before the machine is shutdown. Problem I am having is when the system automatically comes back online the FM Database Server does not automatically resume. Is there a way to specify FM to automatically startup when the system starts up from a UPS Shutdown?

Can anyone explain the nature of the technical requirement to run FileMaker Server on Windows Vista or Server? FileMaker could not provide a satisfactory or even coherent answer to this inquiry. I am particularly puzzled by it supporting Server 2003 while not supporting XP? I am from a Unix background but interpreted Server 2003 to be Server XP? - No? - We don't run Windows Server in any form. The performance of the virtualized server running on Vista is absolutely horrendous. We retired all our Mac OS X based servers in the name of virtualization and really aren't looking to bring them back, but I am not sure there is a practical alternative.

Hello, I use FMS 10 in a Windows 2003 server, I will like to backup FMS to a mapping drive (B:) in the server. I am having problems changing the original backup folder path to the new mapping drive filewin:/B:/Backups/ = (Not a valid path) I don’t know if the default backup path can be changed to a mapping drive. We have a 1+ Gb file that was taking just over one minute to backup with no lock outs or perceived delays; after a recent anti virus renewal/upgrade and subsequent reboot our back ups now take 40 minutes or more and lock out clients. Some observations: I temporarily disabled our av ware (AVG 8.5) with no change to backup times. If I leave a RDP logon active (no logoff) during the backup time the db will always fail verification. It appears that a MS service running during an active logon causes the problem. It appears to me that since the latest reboot we have more MS services running that we don't need. We are planning on upgrading our FMS 9 Advanced installation to FMS 10 Advanced. We also have several Access databases and a number of tables within those databases that read and write data to the FMS databases using the SequeLink driver. My question is whether the upgrade process also requires us to do some work with the connections in the Access database. (As in, do we have to open the Access databases to recreate each of those connections?) I know the documentation discusses that the SequeLink driver provided with 10 is an upgrade from previous version, but I wasn't sure if is specifically an upgrade from what comes with FM9, as the SequeLink installer file wit…

I have had an annoying problem for several months where the Admin Console stops working after a period of time. A restart always fixes this, but as the server is in constant use, I have to remember to do this out of hours and it's a pain. I have talked to FM Support but they told me there is no fix for this (admittedly this was some time ago though) The server is running OS X v10.4.11 and I think I am running the latest FMS Advanced version 9, can't check as the Admin Console will not launch. I am trying to install FMP Server 10 on a brand new Dell 2.5ghz dual quad core processor machine with 8gb of ram. I get all the way through the install process where it tells me it will launch the Admin Console to complete the server setup. That's where it dies and tells me that the database needs to be restarted. When I click on the restart button it fails and tells me to contact my network administrator... guess who that is.. ME! I'm really enjoying the fact that FMS 10 is able to do retention by timestamping consecutive backups. This surely saves a lot of time since before I needed to create dozens of schedules on FMS 9 to have an acceptable amount of retained backups. Now I'm trying to setup an automated shell command to perform rsync on the day's backup to an offsite server through ssh. The problem is that I need to have a predictable path to the backed up day's files so that my files properly do an incremental sync to the server without reuploading everything from scratch. Hello! Yesterday I uppgraded from FMS9 to FMS10 on a Win 2k3 server machine. I also updated the admin console on my client computer. When I try to create a new backup schema I get "Status: Invalid path" om the standard path "filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/" I know the path is correct and I also noticed that the standard backup schema "Every day" at 23:00 worked. I have talked to the FileMaker support and they asked me to check the read/write privileges on the backup folder and the SYSTEM user has full control. Hi all, This is frustrating, because I am assuming there's a very simple answer to this. I am however, so far, unable to find it. I have several files on a client's FMS9, some of which are PHP enabled, and others that are not. I would expect any new file to have the same settings, but they don't. One of the new files also however needs PHP enabled so that I can run it through the PHP Assistant. I am however unable to toggle it on. Looked around, tried Help, etc. -- and nothing. All it says is to click the checkbox -- for PHP, which is already on, and running on a few of the hosted files -- but not all of them (see attached screenshot). Any ideas?

Hello all, We have broken down and finally are required to get pci compliant with out computer systems. One of the requirements is to have the latest version of Apache and latest version of php installed. I am currently on 10.4.11 Tiger Server and have no idea how to accomplish this. I have searched everywhere but can not find a solution to help me configure it properly. This machine is our main server including VPN, web server, and filemaker web server. I have performed searches on this issue within the forums and cannot seem to find any recent discussion on whether FileMaker began supporting this prior to the release of FMS 10. I've just installed FMSA 10 on Windows 2K3. When I try to run the server admin assistant (e.g. http://localhost:16000) I get the response "FileMaker Server has encountered an error: The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request." Ports 16000, 16001 and 5003 are open on the firewall, and I've also tried turning the firewall and antivirus off. I've tried repairing and even reinstalling the FMSA, all without success. Hi everyone, Thank you for you help with my problem launching the admin console. I updated all my patches and java and versions, rebooted and all WAS well for a time. Now I have a different problem. Suddenly, after everything was working well, I can't see my databases or my clients in the console . They both say 0 and 0 selected. Hello, I have a solution that incorporates a practice database that users go into to learn and do what if kinds of things. The way it works is I backup the real database and copy it over to the practice database. In filemaker 9 that would not have been a problem but the new server admin function dumps my backup in a timedated folder making it hard to access through windows command lines. Is there anyway of getting a backup from the server without the timestamped folder? Rich

I am trying to accomplish a close of all hosted databases on my Server 9 Advanced (Windows 2003) through the use of command line fmsadmin commands. I'm posting because of a TechNet meeting today in the UK, where a guy lecturing on FMS10 shared that it still locks users out of files, and for one client running a 1.2GB file 40 users were being locked out (on a windows hosted solution he admitted!) for 4 minutes at a time during back up. I installed Filemaker Server 10 on a brand new machine running 10.5.6 about two weeks ago. Everything has been running fine. Then today I noticed that Backups had not run since about Noon yesterday. I logged on to the server and launch FMS Admin Console. It launches fine but I am unable to run scripts, close databases, shutdown database server etc... I don't get any error messages the commands just don't make any effect. There are no log files available since yesterday about Noon. The connected client list is frozen. I was looking at our server 9 this am and found 2 files that are quite large. wpc_access_log.txt web_server_module_log.txt one is 400 megs, the other 700 megs. Can these files be deleted without any adverse effects on my db? Will they be created again, just smaller? Thanks in advance!

Hi, Yesterday I installed FMSA 10 (technet development license) and I seem to have forgotten the login and password to the admin console, so I guess I need to re-install ... I have a couple of dbs opened, and even thought they are just for testing, I wonder how can I properly close them before uninstalling FMSA. I see that there are a few fmserver processes running in the activity monitor, do I need to kill them before I go ahead and uninstall FMSA? Thanks in advance!

Running FMS10A on OS X Server 10.4.11. We are seeing occasional instances of the FMS process just stopping, happening about once a week. No crash.log is output. Anyone else seen this happen? Obviously, not a good thing... - John

Does the PHP package FM 10 Server offers to install (5.2.6) have any of the popular extensions that come with other PHP packages? How does it compare to the one installed with OS X Server 10.5? I use FX.php so I don't need any of the FM-specific stuff for the API, but the OS X version is usually barebones, so I was hoping FM's installation might be better. I have enabled an FMPro file on FMServer. This FMPro file uses external files from a link to a 'Current Directory'. Where do I put in FMServer these external files? In FMP I had the file in the same folder as the FMP file working fine The 'Current Directory' in FMServer points to: fmnet:/10.211.55.2/ Putting the external file here, does not work?
