FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad

I've got a database with multiple tables and I'm running a script from a window that has focus set to [let's say] table 1 and requesting the creation of a new record in table 2. I've traced the execution of this script in FM Go [using the pause steps] and see that when the 'record create' step is executed, the record in table 2 displays exactly as it should. I then execute the 'commit' statement and all of the fields lose their data values and display the "?". I removed commit' statement and get the same results. I have a hosted solution to generate Invoices (among other things). I am looking for a way for these exported Invoices to then be available from outside the FileMaker solution - for example, Google Drive, Dropbox, or an FTP location or something like that. I have tried with the Google Drive app, and that allows me to manually select to open the created PDF in Google Drive, in turn uploading it. I am looking to automate this process, and also allow different files to go to different folders. My thoughts are that when I create the $filename variable, I can enter the Google Drive or Dropbox app location, instead of Get ( TemporaryPath ) or Get ( DocumentsPath )? …

The script I use to open PDF and Word documents on a Mac and PC does not seem to work on the ipad or iphone. It simply says it cannot find the container. They are externally stored with the secured setting. Is there a better mechanism for this? Is there a way to tell whether the database has EAR? Originally I had encrypted the database, using the developer tools; however, things seemed slow on an already slow server, so I attempted to de-encrypt it. Things were never quite successful at that stage, according to the log. It would receive an "error". I'm wondering, now, as to whether it was ever properly encrypted. Originally it would ask me for an encryption password, but it no longer does that. Is there a way to tell?

I was pulling my hair out earlier due to a problem with FileMaker Go 13.0.2 on my iPhone 5S (updated OS). I'm running it against a FileMaker 13 server hosted at FileMakerProHosting.com and developed the database with FileMaker Pro 13 Advanced. I have a simple layout for updating a table. Does Filemaker Go provide a method to take a picture with an i-pad then automatically upload the picture to a container field? If this is not available natively are there any plugins that might do this?

I have a 80MB database that is stored on the iphone and opened directly from the device. I checked the opening layout and the opening script and they are not responsible for the slow opening (i even changed the opening layout for an empty one and deleted the opening script...no change in speed). It's really the file loading that is slow. Slow means around 40 seconds on a slow device like an ipod and maybe 20 seconds on an iphone 5. By comparison it takes less than 5 seconds on a computer Any way to improve the file opening speed on FM GO ?

We seem to consistently crash FMGo if we try to insert a photo from the photo stream into a container. Anyone else seeing this issue? Taking a photo with the camera works fine. FMGo 13.0.5 local file on iPad 4 iOS 8.1 Available storage is adequate (4.7 gb).

I made a file and it has buttons to speak text. When I brought it into go it doesn't work. Does text speaking work in Filemaker go and if not is there a work around? Thanks

Based on Richard Carlton's videos from RC Consulting, FM Go will convert any font to Helvetica Neue on the iPad. So, I installed Helvetica Neue on my PC but Pro 13 does not display Helvetica Neue among the list of fonts available ?!?! This is a concern for me because when I run my files, some long labels do not display the last word. I tried with Times New Roman which is recommended by Richard Carlton but I still end up with missing words. For example, "First Company Email" will display "First Company" Any tips?

Hi Everyone, How would I set the container to only offer the option to take photos from the back camera or use a photo from the existing gallery? At the moment, if I were to tap the container, an action menu would pop up with options such as view, replace, export and delete. if i were to tap Replace; the options for camera, audio, signature, photos, music and files would appear. I am using the new barcode scan feature available in FM GO 13 and I can't seem to get it to work. My script step is: Insert from Device [Equipment Log::zBarcode; Type: Bar Code; Camera: Back; Resolution: Full] I have all the barcode types enabled and the barcode that I am testing with is Code39. The error that I get is "Specified field has inappropriate filed type". Equipment Log::zBarcode is a Text field. I'm in the process of testing an iPad solution and I came across of a problem that I cannot explain the reason. When i touch a number field, the number keyboard pops up but when I touch number, I got an error message telling me that : This element is not editable because it is already being edited in another window. This field is not located in an other table. Any idea?

I'm able to enter data in any types of field but it appears the information is not saved when I return to a layout. For example, I check a box in layout A then I move to layout B. When I return to layout A, the box is no longer checked. This situation happens for all the fields available in the layouts used for iPad. The information is properly saved when I run the db on my computer. Any suggestions?

My on first window open script navigates to a layout and hides the menubar and toolbars, and locks zoom to 100%. There is an image set to tile the background. The image is 768 x 929. The body is 768 x 929. Footer is 64pt. It displays perfectly, however when I navigate to another screen and then return to this same layout, the background image does not display. I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as me with regards to blurred fonts on FM Go. I have created a layout which I use as a kind of template. I simply copy the layout and paste into another blank layout and then make some minor changes from there. On my desktop it works fine, and I have tested it on my Mac 10.8.5 and also Windows 8.1. I am using FM Pro Advanced 12.0v5. On FM Go 13.0.5 some of the layouts have slightly blurred or soft fonts. Other layouts are sharp. In theory they are identical. I have a layout for the Ipad that uses several dropdown lists. Since the user won't have the option to key-in free text, I'd like to prevent the keyboard from appearing and taking up screen space. Is there any way to prevent the keyboard from popping up when a dropdown list becomes active? Thank you

Recently I've been having problems opening File Maker (13) Go on my iPad. When I close Go on the iPad then reopen the program the database is whited out/all white and I have to close the Go and reopen it again. Any reason what could cause this and how to fix it? Is it anything to do with the fact that the Database is edited in FMA12, but being used on Go 13?

I started a new job and wanted to create a simple inventory program whereby we have a part number, description, received quantity and picked quantity and then have it keep a current inventory level for that item. I would probably want to create a new record each time we have a transaction. I would look up by part number and it would fill in the description automatically. I think I can do that. My problem is how to show a current stock level of that one item based on all the transactions, either positive or negative, for that item when I do a find by the part number. In Filemaker Go, am I right in thinking there is no 'Insert operators menu' in Find mode as there is in the desktop version? This is the incredibly useful drop-down menu that lists the various "greater than" / "less than" / "find duplicate values" etc options for performing more nuanced searches? I can't find it anywhere, but don't want to break the news to a client and discover that I just wasn't 'seeing' it . . . If this feature is missing, it's a real shame!

Hi  When Custom Menu is configured on an application actions on Filemaker Go Container Field are affected showing less options than default.  On an image view and export options are not present on enabled Custom Menu, only replace and replace keep visible.  On a video again only replace and replace keep visible, play and export are not present.  I hope anyone can help telling me which commands should I enable on Custom Menu so this options continue enabled on Filemaker Go.  Thanks AM  Â

Been 3 days now... almost turning kookooh here. I created an awesome bar database where paper pencils and notepads are now iPads. Drinks can be selected and customized, all works flawless. Up till the moment I need to print. This is a no go. I kind of got a LAN receipt printer working, 100% correctly on the Windows 8 computer that shares the database. The LAN printer came with "iPosCloud" and supposedly works on iPads, but iPosCloud probably hard coded something to make it work as there are no drivers available for this printer (PBM P-822D), not for OSX nor for iOS. They would like to be able to touch a button within their solution that will cause the device to flip from Go to the Map App, input the address from the FM Go record, and have the Map app plot GPS directions from the operator's current location to the client address. I receive PDF files via email, and need a way to add these directly into a container field, from the iPad. When I use iTunes and load the PDF into the Apps > FMGo section, it works fine, and using Insert PDF shows the file. I've tried using Adobe Reader and iBooks to save the PDF files from the email and then insert if into the container. The files show up under the Adobe Reader folder in iTunes, but not in FMGo, so using Insert PDF doesn't show any files. Thanks in advance.

Using a layout on my computer and a layout on my iphone with the same table I am creating records at the same time. I create the record using my phone. I start creating a record on my computer (script on layout enter creates record) and when I click the cancel button it has a script to delete the record. Here is the thing... It is deleting both records ie. both the computer created and phone created records in one hit. I only have the delete record script running. I mean - I hired this guy to manage our stock control and ensure that when a customer orders a product, the product is popped in a box and despatched out to the right address. I am working on an iPad solution designed to browse an art collection. A container field will display the work of art and there will be some descriptive fields beneath it. Very frequently, the user will want to view the image 'full screen' by tapping on it. This works great, but in this case it's unfortunate that there's an intermediate step where the user is to select from a number of Actions' -- which includes the 'View' option I want. Hi, reading through the different approaches to timers for elapsed time capturing, I cannot seem to find the right lead or approach: For a quiz scenario on an Ipad, I would like to press start that triggers a timer to start counting up the seconds. While they are visibly running, the user will perform a quiz and answer questions, switching layouts. When he is finished he will press stop and the used time (the one displayed on screen) is saved. Hi, I am by no means an iOS guy, so I am having problems trying to figure out the proper URL Scheme to send to the iLinea FMG app which supposedly will allow ifinea tab 2 credit card scanner to then scan the card and send it back to FMP Go. Has anyone done this with this scanner and app? If so would you share the URL that you used to populate the Open URL in the filemaker script. I have been able to push a button in FMP Go and it then goes to the app, I can scan the card and it comes back to FMP Go but the script I want it to run in FMP Go is not run and so I cant get the scanned card info. Hi, I wish to add pdf documents stored on the iPad (for instance in 'Dropbox' or 'Documents' apps) from the FMGo 13 into container fields. The 'Insert File' or 'Insert pdf' functions are not working: message on the ipad indicating that no file was found without the possibility to locate the pdf (seems to look for filemaker db files only). Hello, I have been able to remotely access a FileMaker Pro 12 Server via a reverse SSH tunnel with a FileMaker Pro 12 client since version 12 was released. I based the SSH connection off the instructions in this very old post: http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/27976-tunnel-filemaker-over-ssh-through-nat/ I have not been able to connect the same way with a FileMaker Pro 13 client (either regular version or advanced) but still can connect with version 12. I have a data base well suited to Form View. Occasionally users will want to view as a table so I placed a toggle button on the layout to take them there. Is there any user friendly way to get them from Table View to Form View without them having to go to the default "menu" button and then selecting "Form" from the View option ?

I am having an issue with mailing a working database from FM Pro 13 to my iPad with FM GO. I get a message about being unable to open the database due to some invalid format (database is damaged and cannot be opened). This database works fine on my MAC and PC and I have tried all of the recover options I could think of. After multiple recover and sends, I sometimes get a working copy.. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am starting to make more and more use of the i-pad for photographing jobsite conditions for my cabinet shop. Some of the Apps I use allow me to take a picture then superimpose jobsite measurements on top of the photo. I would like to be able to import these images directly into container fields. Ideally this would happen within Filemaker Go. Does anybody know of a way to do this natively or with a plug in?

I have a single database solution that was created on my Mac. I have sent it via email to several associates for use on their iPad. Two of the three work perfectly. The third exhibits an error . . " <File> is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the desktop product's Recover command to recover this file" Is there a setting on an iPad that I can't find that causes this error? It's obvious that the FMGO application is valid and works on other devices. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Â As this system is for a Livery yard, they need to send out Invoices.. I really like being able to control conditional visibility of an object based on calculation. This works great on an imac but I can't get it to work with GO TO filemaker on an iPad. Is there to make this work in GO TO FM?

I have a client who has started developing and for reasons that may or may not be valid he has decided to use a basic user level filemaker 12 file linked to the main fmp data file as an external data source. I can imagine some performance benefits but I am niot convinced and I wonder what implications this may have for fmp go I have googled extensively and I can only find references to SQL files rather than fmp files. I'm wondering what method folks are preferring for scripted creation of related child records in FM GO. With Pro I would generally store the parent ID in a local variable, change layouts to a utility layout of the related table, create a new record, set the parent ID, set a other data as needed and then return to the original layout. This seems ponderous in the GO environment. How are folks doing this with GO.

As a filemaker novice I am having great difficulty getting the script correct so that I can send data from my filemaker database as an excel file from the iPad.  My script is as below. All I want to do is export all the fields as an Excel file from the current record being browsed. It works fine when I use the "Export Records" script and the user then manually chooses Type:Excel, and the email is created with the excel attachment ready for the user to type in the recipeint email address.  Any help on what I am missing would be appreciated. Using the script below I get everything I need except the attachment is not there.   Â

A new problem has popped up for me within the last few weeks where I'm having problems with exporting on the iPad. I have a Go 12 solution that on demand exports a record set and attaches it to an email. I've gotten random complains from coworkers that it wasn't working and that there was no attachment to the email message that would pop up as usual. I wasn't having the problem at first, but then it started happening to me, too. I updated my iOs to the latest version (7.0.4) and it started working for me. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am designing a FileMaker application that will be used on iPad and will require to print from the software. I have designed the complete software and have added some print buttons. Now, I am currently testing it on my Mac though I would think the same thing would happen on the iPad. When I click the print buttons I would like it to print the entire layout with all records included (includes a portal to show multiple records) but It only seems to print 3/4 of the layout. Morning Guys, I am developing a database that will be used on desktops and iPads. One of the things I am trying to do is password protect delete record. Currently I am using: Privilege Set - Command Menu - Editing Only to grey out delete from the command menu (desktop & iPad). A show custom dialog with input to allow user to enter the password. I've developed an app for a user that has been working fine. It allows them to use the built-in camera, or to take photos from their Photo Library on the device and add them to a specific container field. This is just a matter of parlance/ terminology, but I'm wondering what the common terms are for referring to A] a Filemaker Go interface that I would describe as displaying "live" data -- that is, the iPad is directly connected via wifi or telecom signal to a database file hosted on a local network or remote site vs. B] a Filemaker database that is copied wholly onto an iPad (via email or iTunes) and requiring no wireless signal to function. You might say, maybe, that [A] is a 'hosted solution'? What would you say of in contrast? Just wanting to 'speak the language' with my client accurately and efficiently.

Hello I have been trying to use the Import Records [...] function and a button to allow an Filemaker Go user to insert records from a CSV file that they have added to the Filemaker GO app through iTunes. Is this possible? I can not find how to set the default file path for the iOS.

I was under the impression that you could only use third-party applications to sync. Such as the ones from 360 works and a couple of others that I'm not handed to my memory at the moment. Just a few hours ago FileMaker updated few of the technical documents, and one I want to link here in particular has to do with syncing. Hi I've been trying to use the Insert from Device script step to insert a camera image into a container field. However this particular command, on the iPad, creates an Error 4: "This script step "<unknown>" is not supported on this device." FM Go_iPad 12.0.8 on an iPad 2 and an iPad Air, both using iOS 7.1. This is FM 11 Go, but I'm not sure if newer versions correct this or not. I've got a form that is filled out via FM 11 Go and the file is hosted on a server, therefore an internet connection and a VPN tunnel is required in order to use the form. Also, in this form I have an auto-entered serial number being used and tons of validation before the record is saved. Now on top of all of this, it has been brought to my attention that gaps are appearing in the serial number, and the appearance of gaps is frowned upon by auditing. Hello, I'm have a FM DB that I have transferred to an ipad to operate remotely. I have a script to export found records as merge files to be sent as emails. When I try and run this script, FM go presents a warning dialogue claiming "The script step "export Records" is not supported on this device." Hi: I am not a newbie but a relative novice using FMPro 12 for Mac. I'd really like to have an app that runs on my iPhone that tracks date, mileage, calculates mileage delta from the last fill up, then uses the # of gallons put in to calculate MPG, and ideally then easily communicates this data to the master FMPro 12 (or 13 if need be) app on my iMac. I'm using FMGO13 and have set up security access for the technicians to use a mobile service work order application. When I run this application on my iPad everything works as designed. I then log off my iPad. When I sign on as the same user on a different iPad I get the message . . . "The access privileges in this file hae been damaged or possibly tampered with . . . " Is there an iPad setting that I need to understand in order to make this work properly. Again, using the same app and the same user on 2 different iPad's gives me 1 success and 1 failure. I'm using FMGO 13 and have problems whenever I permit someone to select a field to add text. When the keyboard appears I also display the menu bar that permits moving between records, going to find mode, etc. I've looked at script steps and security settings to resolve the problem but can't find anything that will disable that menu bar. Although not a 'show stopper' it does permit users with the ability to do things I don't want done. Hopefully I've overlooked a simple solution.

Hi, I have a database created in FM 12 on a mac which has one layout for PDF files. In FM 12, the container adds a scrolling bar on one side. so I can scroll down the PDF. However, when I transfer the DB to FM GO, there is no scrolling facility available in the container field. Does anyone know a way round this? Thanks pixeleen

Hi All! I see a lot talk on the internet and forums about syncing data between an FM Go app and a FM Server. I understand why this would be necessary, or at least preferred, when you have users that take the FM Go app on the road. Accessing the data via the FM Server while on a Cellular network would not be efficient at all. So, it makes sense to have the records on the iOS device and then sync changes back to the server when back on the local WiFi network. I don't see a lot of talk about accessing the data via the FM Server while on the local WiFi network though. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience based words of wisdom regarding this. We have a GO solution that runs on the separation model. The interface file is local to the device with the data streaming down from a hosted related file. Using a technique that we read about in Filemaker 12 Developer Reference (Bowers and his crew always produce amazingly useful stuff) we are attempting to have upgraded interface files pushed out to the iOS devices automatically as needed. I want to use FileMaker Go in a very simple way. I want to occasionally edit my records from my mobile device. I do not need complicated hosting where I can update simultaneously. I just want to be able to sometimes send my database to my iPad or iPhone, edit a bunch of stuff there, then send it back to my computer (or, if needed, somewhere in the cloud if that is a better solution). But this is just for my personal home management, so I do not want to pay for a hosting service. I have figured out how to get the file to my phone via dropbox, but it doesn't seem to work well to get the database back to dropbox. What is the best way to do this? Can Dropbox work? …

HI All, I am looking forward to using Filemaker Go but have a question concerning export and import. I will be creating my database on the PC and sending it to my iPad for normal use and operation standalone. If I need to fix a bug or make changes to the database I need to do it on the PC and send it again to the iPad. My question is how to 'migrate' the data from the original iPad version to the newer iPad version. I tried and export and import script, it worked fine on the PC but not on the iPad. Were working on an application that will be given to field agents. Since they will have spotty internet access were looking at something like GoSync to let them work offline. Gosync only works with filemaker go on ipad Were looking for a similar solution that will work on Android or Windows 8 tablets. anyone know of any solution?

My layout contains a drop down list that is 'minimized' when accessed via the browser on an iPad - see attached. How can I increase the size of the drop-down list - I'm happy for it use the entire iPad display width if required). I'm using IWP and when I access this via a desktop I can view the full text. The drop-down list is populated via a value list which displays values from twos field in a table.

I thought I'd post this here since I'm primarily attempting to get this working on an iPhone & FMGO12. I'm trying to run a script during "OnLayoutSizeChange" using the "Get (WindowOrientation)". Basically, if the orientation on the iPhone changes, it should change to the appropriate layout. What am I missing here? Hi, does anyone have a method of getting a PDF from a samba share into a containter (internal storage) using Go 13 on an iPad? One of our db's requires the user to scan documents and place them in container fields. Our scanner saves to PDF's in a dedicated samba share. We have been using this db in FM desktop for a while but some other aspects of it would benefit greatly from the mobility of the iPad. The db is hosted with Server 12 on the same network. How do you avoid incurring too much costs when using Go on on a cellular network. The bulk of the companies usage will be photographs. So, I was wondering if there is a way to sort of freezing the upload of the container file until the database is on a Wi-Fi network. Alternatively one can sync server and the local copies possibly or use the camera roll to import at a later stage, but that would not be ideal for me and hence the question.

I have a script that creates a new user account with the "add account" function ("Run script with full access privileges" box checked). The user who runs the script has full access. When I try to login with FMGo, the new login account is recognized. It asks for a new password and then I get a message that I can't access the current layout with that user/password combination. I then I go on my MAC in the security section and change the password for this newly created account. It asks me to enter a login/password that has full access to confirm the changes. After that , the created account works. So how can I fully create a new account without having to manuall…
