FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad

Hi! I have FileMaker Go on iPad. And i want to make a system to register time when workers in our company come. When they come to ipad they need to tap a button on ipad screen - with their name and then a front camera make a shot of them. That's meen that they come to work. So, i need no menus while taping a button "come" - but on FileMaker Go appears menu with choice camera, audio, signuter etc. But i don't need it. I need only front camera. What can be solution to except this menu. And make a photo just on on a click? Thank u very much.

I have a longstanding .fp7 database which has been running for years on a FM10 Server. Access on desktop clients has been snappy and entirely satisfactory. There are 22,000 records, 380 fields per record (no containers) and the whole file is 300mb in size. I am now testing access to it using iPads FM-Go-11. I have not altered the DB in any way, the layouts are simple and work well on the iPad. Here is my issue. When the iPads are within the same wifi network as the server the access is a little slow, but just about acceptable. hi,  Looking for a kind helping hand from the community,  I have an email alert script that runs as part of the Startup script.  this script looks over the database and finds dates that are nearly about to expire (30 days before the date) and triggers a pre-set email alert if this criteria is met.  However on FMGo the alert is not properly taking the information into the email that gets generated.  The script was designed to pull related information from the users account information (same user who has the date) and then pull other fields into the email such as 'First_Name' etc.  Issue:  This script is running fine on FM12, but is not working at all on …

I have a .fp7 format file hosted on a FM10 Server. I am rolling out iPad access using FM Go 11. I have two types of user, powerful admin users and less powerful standard users. My users access the DB with both Macs and iPads using the same login. I am getting a strange behaviour in Find Mode on the iPads. My powerful users can open a search screen (via a script), enter data into a field, hit the keyboard 'Go' button and have their search performed - all ok so far. But when my standard users enter Find Mode they become trapped in a cycle of moving from field to field, ie: the keyboard 'Go' button has no effect - they cannot perform a search! Does anyone know of a way to send a push notification to an iPad or an iPhone that when clicked will take the user to the targeted database and record? There is a guy on YouTube that posted this video showing an app that can do this but it appears to be vaporware and it's not totally clear if it can actually launch Filemaker Go and take you to the record. My products database is very straightforward, nothing complicated. Each product has several photos; the photos are in a separate file as per recommendations here some time ago. Now I am building a version of my products DB for iOS, and naturally the photos (some are 2000 x 3000±) are way too big for the iPhone to handle. So the question is this: I know how to create smaller versions of each picture (there are many ways, I will use Preview or Graphicconverter). What I don't know is how to have records on the iOS refer to the small version of the photo while records on the Mac use the normal, large version. Do I create a new table? Im using Go 11 and server 11 also Go 12 and server 12. I understand comes to cellular connection that connecting to a database is painfully slow especially if your database is huge. im wondering if anyone of you has accomplished a turn around that makes things faster. If I email a jpg or a tiff, when I open the email on the ipad and tap/hold the icon for the file in the email then I get a "copy" dialog that will allow me to tap the FM Go container field and "paste". However, if I try to do this with emailed pdf/doc/xls then the dialog from the email says "Open In" but does not copy to the clipboard for pasting into FM Go. Has anyone had any luck with a 3rd party product or technique that will allow emailed pdfs to be inserted into FM Go container field?

Hi I updated my FileMaker 11 database to FileMaker 12 and I am using it with FileMaker Go 12 with FM 12 Advanced. The database is for quality control records in the seafood industry I have 7 different inspection types and I am using the same script to create new related records. You can see the script in "Icelandic" in the attached document. The scripts are for two types of inspections and one "Karfi" is working correctly and I get to the field "Þyngd". Has anyone seen this behavior in Go 12? Simple portal of items on a layout.... Each has portal element has a category assigned (ex, animal, plant, mineral, etc). There is a global for filtering the portal set as a pop-up of said categories. Script trigger assigned to the global field to refresh window and commit when field is saved. Desired effect is to keep Go from hopping to the next field when the global category selector is set. I am currently running a File Maker Pro 11 solution on my laptop and have been using FileMaker Go on my iPhone and iPad to access it while on the road for several years now. It works very well. Occasionally however, the laptop freezes up while I am gone and then FileMaker Go can't access it. I got to thinking that perhaps I could somehow run the whole thing on my NAS device which has never seemed to have stop working like the laptop does on occasion. I'm designing a database meant to be used exclusively by employees in the field, on their iPads. They'll fill out forms, get customer signatures, print the forms, and email the pdfs back to our document control. There's a form which, by virtue of the data entered on it, can be multiple pages long (I've formatted it so the text fields slide up and resize the enclosing part). All the completed forms we generate have to have "Page X of Y" in the footer. I can't figure out how to get the total page count in FileMaker Go, since "Enter Preview Mode" as suggested here isn't a valid script step for iOS. I'd really appreciate any guidance you can give me.

User has (lets say) 4 identical widgets which he wants to spread the work on so that the spring is not tight on some and loose on others. So I would like a drop down list or pop up menu that the user can edit so that he can either call it # 1,2,3 or 4 or A, B, C, or D. As he uses it, it starts with maybe #1, than when he duplicates the record or creates a new record it automatically goes to the next value #2. When it reaches the end #4 it cycles to #1. Ok, I know the differences say "No can do in FM Go" so I can't use the lovely append PDF function in Go. Has anyone come up with a workaround? I am trying to access a p2p hosted file from my iPhone 4 via FileMaker Pro. I have followed the instructions for enabling the database to be accessed and have also done the port forwarding bizzo, but still cannot access any of the files on my computer in Go. Hi I have a database set up on MAC OSX and this links to FM Go on iPad 3. Once the user has input all the customer details for a purchase transaction, I have set up a script that will GOTO "purchase note" layout and prints two copies (one for me one for the customer), then it automatically goes to "cheque template" and prints one cheque with the required details. The problem I have is that we have 2 printers, one loaded with blank paper for the purchase notes and one printer with the blank cheques. FM Go v12 has the ability to automatically resume a session with a remote database after the the app has been placed in the background. I realise that this can be a very useful feature, however I noticed that if the Go client is on a particular record when the connection is dropped, and then that record is subsequently deleted from the server by other means, when the Go client reconnects, it will automatically shift to the previous record in that table. This is a bad thing if you have multiple records belonging to multiple clients / users in the same file. I can't seem to use my Google mojo to find an answer - how many files can FM Go have open at once? I've got a system that has at least 15 files - would I be able to use this on FM Go (assuming that I create the relevant layouts, edit scripts etc - I don't want to even contemplate that until I know the answer to this). Can't seem to satisfy FM Go with the file name on the host (FM 12). Had no trouble accessing the host from my MacBook using the fmnet:/......... address. That apparently is not the way to access from the ipad. After adding the host ip address to Favorite Hosts I've tried fmnet:/....... <ip>/file name <ip>/fully qualified file name No luck. What's the secret?

Is it possible to get the grid back on the camera, in addition to the file size choice? It seems that with the offer of a small, med (seems best for file size with good quality), large or full file size they eliminated the grid.

Is there a way to eliminate use of the container field to only allow maybe just a picture and not give the other options (sound, signature, select a photo, music or a file) to the user? Also I would like to limit the steps the user has to go through just to take a photo. I would like to have them click the container field and immediately go to the step of taking the photo or to add a sound file.

I think I encountered something strange with the Filemaker Go webviewer on an iPad. I am trying to pull data from my MySQL server using a web viewer. Has anyone gotten audio to play by script on iOS? The only way I've been able to get playback is clicking into a container field (set to aduio/video) and selecting "Play" from the pop up. It works on Pro if I set "Start playback automatically". But not Go.

I am a bit new here, and with filemaker also. I have a question that is probably easy but I have not been able to come across a solution. I have a database that I have implemented on the IPad and have several fields that are set to be filled with a drop menu. But several of them are optional to the user. They work as expected on the desktop but on the IPad they pop up regardless of desire when entering the layout. Is there any way to keep them quiet except when poked? I created the database on the iMac sometime ago, recently I copied it to my iPhone to view in FM Go. Because a password was set up FM Go wants a password to open the db. Ive now turned off password in the original on the iMac and copied a new version to the iPhone deleting existing copies on the iPhone, for some reason FM Go is still requesting a password to open the db and I have forgotten it. Why is this and anyone know how to correct this please.

I'm testing the Location function in FMGo 12.0.5 on an iPad with iOS 6 and found that it is returning three values instead of two values, as the manual states. My guess is that the third value is the accuracy, but I haven't been able to find any mention of this anywhere. Does anybody get just the 2 values (latitute, longitute) as the manual states? Does anybody know what that mysterious 3rd value is?

FM Go requires the user to pass through each field in a scripted Custom Dialog. Why? E.g., I have a Custom dialog with 2 fields defined. It's frequently ok for the user to leave the 2nd field blank. Clicking into the 1st field, the keyboard pops up, data for the 1st field is entered, OK is clicked and the program exits. Only when the user enters the data for field 1, clicks 'next' on the keyboard and then 'done' on the keyboard does the script continue when 'OK' is clicked in the Custom Dialog. Working with a solution built for GO on both iPhone and iPad. Both devices are running iOS 6 and the latest versions of GO. When working with iPhone the keyboard displays GO's top boarder on the keyboard which offers the "Previous", "Next", and keyboard retraction buttons. This top boarder and its buttons are not displayed on iPad's keyboard. This is a problem on iPad as there is no easy way to tab from field to field as there is on iPhone. I'm trying to create a nice shortcut to open a hosted FM database in Go, to be saved on the device's Homepage. FIrst I tried a page with a <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0,url=fmp7://host/databases.fp7"> redirect. This worked, but the redirect is obviously instantaneous, and the user doesn't have a chance to save the link before being moved to Go. I could increase the delay to, say twenty seconds, to give an on-the-ball user the chance to 'Add to Home Screen', but then this gives the same delay every time you open the page from your home page. FM Go 12, iPad 2. If I don't have the cursor in a field, I can not retract the keyboard. Is this usual or am I missing something? If I navigate to a different layout without first retracting the keyboard, it remains out and will not retract until I can get to a layout that has a field I can enter.

Hi, I have a field with a pop-up menu. I have a script trigger to go to another field after I modify the field. The problem is that it goes to the first field on the layout tab order after the script is finished. I cannot "shake" this no matter what I put in the script - it just goes to the the first field is it a bug or am I missing something? tnx :)

I have one database that tracks quantities of stock and I use it to determine a reorder level from regular on-hand counts. I am having some mind fatigue in determining how to track purchases for these items. I am not very agile with Relationships, and I suspect this is involved with the ultimate answer. When I click on a PDF in a container field a popup appears with four Actions (view, replace, export and delete). How can I take the user directly to the view option and prevent them from seeing the other options?

I am looking to create from an existing database of content, a standalone runtime app that I can submit to the iTunes store and also create other OS versions (android, etc?) that I can either give away for free (a lite version), or sell. It appears that I can create them, however, I can't really find a recent discussion topic that shows a path to a solution. It also seems I need FM 12 Advanced. I'd also like it to be an app that has an iPhone and iPad version, which it seems, FM 12 does nicely. Lastly, does anyone know if there is a solution to do in-app purchases/upgrades to expand a free app to a paid one with more features? Any suggestions? John

I was able to run a script in FMP 11 that would display records after a search, then save that found set and send as a PDF attachment in an email. It worked perfectly. It seems since I upgraded to FMP/GO 12, that the "printed" result is blank. I have tried to tweak the settings, but the same happens even if I print to PDF and view. One of the fields is a container that I used for images taken with the iPad. Any wisdom on this would be greatly appreciated.

If I click on the link in FileMaker Pro 12 (for PC), if the link is coded like <a href="http://xxxxxxxxxxx.com" target="_blank"> it pops new window of browser and shows that link. But in FileMakerGo 12, it won't pop up window even though it's coded the same as above. Is there any good way to make it jump to Safari when the user clicks the link? I only could have very little space of web viewer in my FileMakerGo window, that's why I'd like it make it jump to the native browser and they could see it with wide range.

Is there a iOS/ipad simulator out there that i can use to test FM Go solutions? I have Xcode (the free version) but can't figure out how to run FMGo on it, let alone open my database. I almost never need to worry about ipads, so it's not worth the money for me to go out and buy an ipad. iphones aren't being used for this database at all, so i'm not worried about that. I currently have a mobile app that I created for my FM10 runtime database, using FMTouch as the mobile interface. It looks like FMTouch is no longer available through the iTunes/Apple store. Although I plan to upgrade to FMP12 and re-write my runtime and mobile apps for FM GO 12, in the meantime, my clients still need to get FMTouch to run the current mobile app. So, 2 questions: 1. With PC, all you need is just hit delete key when it is focusing on the field. But what about Filemaker Go12? When you press the pop-up menu key, you can't hit delete key with iPhone or iPad. Is there any good solution????

Hi Guys, I need to have one field add up numbers given to it by 10 buttons valued and labeled from 1-10. So if someone pushes the 10 button the field will show 10, if again 20, if pushing4 now it would show 24 as a total. Currently I have 10 fields that by the user clicking on button enters the value into its own field, and than the total field that is a calculation field with: ScoreTotal10 = Score1 + Score2, etc. Which adds up all of the values for a total of 55 but does not add anymore if someone decides to hit the 10 again I think by this question that you can see I'm still struggling with FMP 11 so any thoughts would be appreciated. I have FM 12 Advanced running on Windows and FM Go on an iPad. Everything works save an export script I use to sent text files from a field to a client that needs this content in text. When I did the network connect fmwin://bootcamp/files/number.txt via advanced, the export works without issue but on Go, it says the txt file cannot be created. If the export file in advance stays in the same directory as the db, go generates the file without a problem. Is there a way to set up the URL so go can generate the file. Any help on this would be terrific. In every other way, Go performs exactly as it should. TIA

For any of you that have already purchased FM Go - Can runtime solutions be created to run on the iPad. That would truly be a runaway success. Then you could develop (and protect) commercial products.

Over the past couple of months I have been trying to create a couple of FM apps for my clients that require import/export. I don't really want to ask my clients to spend $299 and purchase FM because they would only need to access the DBs and not build them or tweak them. IWP does not allow import/export and although there is/was a plugin it doesn't seem to be supported by any FM hosts. However, when I look at FM Go it has all the capabilities I need: it's free, it exports (I dont know about importing) etc. Considering this, does anyone think that FM will ever release a desktop version of FM Go? I have a client that has a single user database. Since he purchased his iPad, he has been using the database on there more and more. Up to now he has been manually moving the file back and forth between the iPad and the computer. There is no FileMaker server involved. Just one user, a copy of FM Pro and a copy of FM Go. He is ready to make the jump to move the database entirely to the iPad. This will make his life much easier since he will no longer need to manage moving the file manually. My main question is a backup strategy. If he backup to iCloud, is there a way to grab the daily backups? Or if something goes wrong, can I get access to the backups? W…

Hi, did someone notice that if you display a set of checkboxes on FM12 it does not display them correctly on FMGO? on FMGO it uses a bigger space for some reason. for example if I have 2 columns with 5 rows, on the ipad it shows me 3 columns and 4 rows.. (last two values empty).

Hello, I've been having a problem accessing a database with FM Go 12 that is being hosted at my office with FM Pro 12(shared with instant web publishing). All the programs were updated to the latest versions, and I am able to access the database from any computer (through the network or by internet access) connected to the web using the host's IP. My database has several container fields. I was advised that 'good practice' is to store the photos I use in these containers in a separate file, which I've done (though truthfully as I look back, I don't see inherent advantage). Now comes Fm Go! Go is totally cool and I want to use it on the iPhone and the iPad. However: In order to use my data I do need the pictures. I know how to get the FM database to the iPhone, no problem. What I don't know is what to do about the photos (container fields). Hi, I have a script and script trigger set up that seem to work fine with filemaker pro 12 but does not work so well with filemaker go 12.02. Basically I set a up an easy way to do a find. I have two fields one labeled search field and the other labeled search value, and script triggers on object modify that triggers a "search" script that then goes back to the last active field so that you can continue typing until you find your desired result. In testing my FDS version of FileMaker Server 12, I am encountering a problem that I can't resolve. My iPad2 connects to hosted databases, but the iPhone 4 does not. When I try to connect to the hosted databases from the iPhone, I can see the hosted server name, but am asked to "Enter Filename". When I enter the IP and Network File Path (10.0.1.10/RG_Content.fmp12, I get the following error message: "The file "RG_Content.fmp12" could not be opened. Hey folks, We have developed a solution called Teacher's Companion and we feel it looks and works great on FileMaker Go for the iPad. We love the way you can save and print PDFs, attach photos from the Photo Library, and even attach signatures. A small concern at this early stage is if only FileMaker Go could open specialised filetypes (stored in container fields) with iPad apps that can utilise them. I have an account with the 'Data Entry Only' Privilege set that does not require a password for login. I use that account for the 'File Option' 'Log in Using' when opening the file. On the Mac and PC, the file opens and proceeds to the 'home' screen without requiring any user validation. However, when opening the file on an iPad, an account/password is required. The iPad does not accept the above account (I enter the account name but no password since one isn't defined), but using a full-access account name that does require a password does open the file. Why is the file opening/login routine different on the iPad from the Mac and PC?

Can I share a file between a PC and an iPad simply by overwriting the previous version of the file after data has changed? I'm guessing that when you transfer a file to an iPad it's the same Pro file even though it has limited functionality in FM GO, and that functionality will be restored when you transfer and open the file in FM Pro again?

I'm considering building an FM GO database and want to purchase a FM Go compatible device to use as a test platform. An 8Gb iPod Touch is much cheaper than an iPhone or iPad here in the UK. And then someone has FM Go on an iPhone which was somehow same program as on server but different layout, right, then that person on the iPhone could enter data which writes directly to the served version instantly? It would be because they are connected to that served file even though they do not have filemaker pro ? In FM Go, is there any way to lock the 'show toolbar' menu option in the 'off' state? I don't want my users to be able to add/delete records or to perform finds other than through scripted buttons on the layouts.

So I upgraded to fmgo 12 on my iPad and deleted Fmgo 11. Little did I know, an fp7 database was being used locally in Fmgo 11 by an employee and now it has (presumably) been deleted. First - when I insert PNG transparent icons into my solution it works fine in my FM 11 Adv. but on my IPhone (FM Go) It doesn't display the icon it shows text like this "size: 25,25 image:.." Second - Is this correct ( the only way to sync the information from the home computer to my IPhone is to have FileMaker Server, or to be on WIFI, or to go thru ITunes?) I just downloaded FM Go 12 for my iPad (I'm new to both iPad and FM Go). When I launched it, it took me on a 'tour'. When I was ready to try connecting to my FM 12 database on my iMac, I clicked on 'help', 'Connecting to Databases' and 'Connect to Hosted FileMaker database'. Then it says 'From the FileMaker Go Home screen......'. I can't seem to get out of the 'tour' and... How do I get to the FileMaker Go home screen??

One of the nice features of the iPad is the use of 3 fingers to slide from one open application to another. One thing I noticed is that FM Go 12 makes you re-login when you scroll back to it from another app even if it was just for a few seconds away from FM Go. Do others notice the same thing?

Does Filemaker Go have to be online with Wi-FI, and able to connect to the file that you import records from? Can't you import those records(csv or xls) via email attached? If it's stored at certain directory in iPad, and being named as particular name. If you guys have any good idea to import records to FileMaker Go without using FileMaker Pro. Hi all, This would sound like it is fairly simple, but I have spent many hours trying to figure it out. I have a DB and created a view for a tablet. I have one field on the view the user has to input a price in. I have set a script trigger that says "OnObjectExit" run a script. The script is simple...it says Go to the next record. When I trigger the script it goes to the very last record in the SORT and stops, it does not go to the next record. HOWEVER, I can put a button on the view and attach the Go To The Next Record command on it and it works perfect. I can attach the above script to the button and it works fine. Any ideas? Thanks...MG

I am not able to connect to my server ( Filemaker 11 Server) on my iPod touch with the (free) FileMaker to GO 12. I am able to connect with the older paid version of Filemaker To go 11. On my ipod touch in Filemaker go to Open File Browser then to my server's address - no databases appear -( although they do show up fine when using Filemaker to Go 11 on the same device/settings/etc)

I am having trouble with my DB and setting up Conditional Formatting. I have a Date field where there are 4 possible conditions. No Date, Past Date, Future Date within 30 Days, Future Date >30 days. I have set up the conditions, but do not see all of them in action. All 4 conditions have different color fills set up. The No Date, Past Date, and Future w/i 30 show the same color fill. Only the Future beyond 30 has a different color. It seems pretty straight forward to me, yet still eludes.
