FileMaker WebDirect

My web direct solution worked fine until it was placed under a moderate to light load 10-20 people, where it has now started to refuse access. This access denial includes all webdirect files and the access to the home page is also denied. Everything else seems to be fine with access to the console and the standard network and all services noted as green. I have restarted too. All help gratefully received. EDIT: I have completely reinstalled filemaker to no effect. i also get 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

I've created a custom database that uses top and bottom navigation panels. It seems to work fine in FMP, but when I run the same under webdirect, it refuses to do anything, then loses connection to the server requiring me to update it. I've moved my files to "storage" and even tried runnign recovery to get it to rebuild. Neither step worked on getting this to run in Webdirect. It used to run fine earlier. I think One problem might be the theme I switched, but I doubt it, I am also running Seedcode's slidebar script and have turned off the animations. I have a separation model file that I use to display some information from my client's main data file via web direct to their customers (customer portal if you like) . It's only external data source is the main data file it reads from. Each of my clients have their own customised main data file, but the separation file is the same for all of them, except for the external data source. We have been struggling to deal with the fact that anyone can manually edit the WebDirect URL to gain access to things that they normally wouldn't, from IWP or even Client versions. Is there any way to disable this glaring security flaw in WebDirect? Ideally, there would be a switch we could enable or disable to mask the URL (similarly to IWP) or not, as desired. I have a dedicated server that exceeds the server requirements and I recently upgraded from FMS13 to FMS14 but I am experiencing an odd performance problem with WebDirect. Version 14 seems to run faster from all browsers but if I leave a web page for about 1 min and run a different application in the foreground (ie check/respond to email), when I come back to the browser and attempt to continue working in my WebDirect session my page loads extremely slow and the spinning wheel comes displays for about 45 seconds then the page responds. Any ideas what could cause this?

Hi, I am going to migrate my FileMaker server from one server machine to another and I am in the process of testing the transfer. However following the test transfer I have discovered that accessing database files in the new server via WebDirect is not functioning properly. I wonder if the community can offer some advice? Our jurisdiction is exploring options on providing public access to certain information within Filemaker. We do not have a PHP designer on staff, and the third party estimates we are getting for this work has been quite a bit higher than we anticipated. Hi, I would like to limit the number of records on a list of say customers to 25-50 items and then create buttons for next or previous records, so Webdirect will be faster and does not have to download all records at once. Hello. I have an a solution with some web direct layyouts for my customer. In On Open file script, when customer enter the layout will create a global variable $$Loginname and after that on all layouts they should see only their records related to the $$Loginname. Right now i use a portal with filter Customer = $$Loginname. Question: What is faster? List view with script on enter that will find related records or portal with filter. Really the problem is that my customer have a big latency( because they live in Russia, and my server in China) and when they scroll portal there always an a processing bar in center of browser. WebDirect in Filemaker 13 promised many things, but there were a TON of gotcha's that made it pretty hard to recommend as a serious alternative to even a extremely simple PHP web portal. In Filemaker 14, they've gone a long way in streamlining and adding new features to WebDirect so that it's hopefully a realistic alternative. One of the things that really annoyed me in FM13 WebDirect was the extremely slow tabbing between fields in WebDirect. It broke the user experience and made form-based WebDirect solutions a pipe dream, because asking users to wait half a second to go to the next field while WebDirect communicated with the Filemaker server is out of the question. …

Webdirect does not seem to respect the aspect ratio of a video (at all). It resizes it to the dimensions of the container field both horizontally and vertically. Turning auto-resizing off is no solution either, because different movies have different aspect ratios - it's impossible to size the container field to match all movies stored in it. Does anyone know a cure for this...? See images attached. PS: the obvious is a given - "maintain original proportions" is checked. PPS: I just installed FMS 14 and FMP 14 to see if maybe they resolved this. Go figure... sometimes I really wonder. REALLY wonder.

Has anyone had any trouble with value lists displaying in web direct? I have a value lists from an external data source that will not display. I have tried it as a popup menu, a drop down menu, radio button set, and in a popover button with radio buttons. Then I have another value list that is also from an external data source but defined from a field and it loads.

I'm trying to find out if its possible to create a web based FileMaker 13 solution (WebDirect) where I can remotely upload files to the db and someone else can remotely download those files. All the reading that I have been doing with regards to WebDirect doesn't touch on containers at all. I'm looking to setup a solution for sales reps via WebDirect to where each sales rep can login but only be able to view records assigned to them. How difficult would this be to setup? Right now I have a layout that has a drop down with each sales rep name. Could I make additional layouts and have some sort of identifier for each sales rep and then when they log in with their user, that user is only allowed access to that layout/records?

In Webdirect, when i press a button that initiates a script, i usually see a message for a flash of a second saying something like "Wait for the script to be executed". Occasionally FM decides not to display the message and just executes the script. Is there any way to tell Filemaker not to show these messages ? Thanks for the advice.

Initial test showed that iFrames with webdirect seem to work this changes a few things for my clients and gives us an easy way to link a database to website.

There are several methods for creating standard icons in a file: regular container, paste the image directly on the layout, use text Webdings ... but recently I have used placing the image in Inspector > Appearance > Background Fill with image. In this way, the icon can change color on highlight etc. Then this style is saved to a custom theme. The advantage is that I can import these 'icons' between files (by importing themes) and I can save them to the theme so it changes throughout a solution automatically. So, We have a unix admin working on our Mac OSX server. I specifically instructed them not to break our Filemaker 13 Apache install. Well it looks like they worked on the machine but broke one thing. We have a development that if accessed by regular Filemaker Pro the button (via Open URL) that links to a document (word file) it does open the application (MS word) resulting a very satisfactory behaviour for users. But the same stuff when running with WebDirect the Chrome gets an "not capable of opening the window; please deactivate the popup window blocker and try again". Well needless to say that that blocker is not active (under preferencies) and the IS manager of the net also verifies it is not blocked at her level. Hello there, I've set few text boxes per layout that work as "tutorials", with one button called "help" that changes one global field [tutorial] from Yes to No (and vice versa), commits the record. When the global field "tutorial" is set to yes, all the "text boxes" should hide, when it is set to no they should apear. It works perfectly in the fm client but when I got to the web even if I change the field to Yes or No in the client and save the record, the web still shows all the text boxes. Suppose you have a WebDirect database that has both a [Guest] account and regular user accounts. Is there any way with a special URL or JavaScript to do an automatic [Guest] login that bypasses the filemaker web direct login screen? Basically, I want to have a Public area of the site which never asks for authentication, and a members-only are which does, but I don't want to confuse the Public by making them click the [Guest] button ever.

I am using the WebDirect_Params to have a user enter FM Webdirect without having to use the login screen. This is an example of a find URL: http://domain_name/fm_link.php?fmurl=fm_server&fmfile=WebDirect_Params?First_Name=Helga This works in both Chrome and Firefox where the user is taken directly to the designated layout without having to login with the Filemaker Webdirect login screen. Hi there, Ive recently published my solution to filemaker server, and am trying to access via web direct. When I'm accessing using LAN, all works well. However, when trying to access over WAN, I cannot get the webpage to load. For example http://192.168.0.2/fmi/webdworks, but http://staticip/fmi/webd does not. The static IP is correct, as I can use Remote Desktop to connect to the server. Ive setup port forwarding on 5003 on the router, and can access the solution via the Filemaker application. When I login to the database in webdirect I have a white space where the toolbar would normally appear at the top of the home page. If I click a button to any another layout, in this case my contacts or tasks, the white bar / missing tool bar persists. Strangely, when I click the "home" button (on contacts or appointments layouts) and go back to home the white bar where toolbar would normally be is gone. Now, when I click the menu button a second time to go back to contacts or appointments the toolbar finally appears. It seems that returning to the home layout triggers something tells the toolbar to either load or not load based on the navigation script, rather than …

I have a webdirect app which is working OK, but my script to exit doesn't seem to be working, e.g. ExitApplication does nothing, whereas CloseWindow ExitApplication actually bumps the user back to the filemaker web direct database list home page. Anyone else seeing this?

I am confused as to whether I should create a dedicated thumbnail container field or to use FM Native thumbnail feature. What are the pros and cons for each method? Hello Forum, I'm working on a solution that runs through WebDirect so users with devices other than iPhones can view and make changes to the database. However, they need to be able to input barcodes straight from the camera of the phone. We are using the "Insert from Device" function for devices using Filemaker Go, but I haven't been able to find an equivalent (or end user friendly) alternative for WebDirect. The closest we've come is using a BarCode scanner app, copy the digits, and paste them in the field. Is there any script or setup that will allow us to link the field to the devices barcode scanning app so that the scanned barcode populates the field? …

I had to update my FM Server Mac to Yosemite and I cannot seem to enable web services. During deployment I get the message: Test web server (http://127.0.0.1:80/fmi-test/test.xml): Connection refused (Please note that this is different from 'ports are in use' which is the other common error;-) I can install and deploy FM Server 13.05 without a problem, I just can't enable web services. I was testing my WebDirect solution, and on one computer nothing seemed to be working correctly. It turns out that on this computer, the time was set 2 hours off. Some of my calculations make use of Get(CurrentHostTimeStamp) and compare that to an auto-enter field which contains the Record Creation Timestamp. It appears that under WebDirect, Get(CurrentHostTImeStamp) returns the timestamp of the server and Get(CurrentTimeStamp) returns the timestamp of the client. This is as expected. I've got a simple web direct form that has one container on it for the user to attach a file to. Part of the form submission process is to export the field contents of the container so that it can be sent out as an attachment for an email. I'm using the excellent BaseElements plugin to handle exporting of the field contents with WD. With all the the get (Xpath) functions not working with WD, I've got to be able to tell it to save the file to SOMEwhere. Are there any alternatives, including plugins that would help me with this? A user complained to me today about the performance of WebDirect. She was using Firefox on a PC to access a database hosted on FMServer. I have not been able to test this on a PC, but on a Mac I noticed some issues when using FireFox, but not with Safari or Chrome. In Firefox it is possible to click on a field and start typing before the field is activated and highlighted. Then a few seconds later the field becomes activated and the letters that were previously typed disappear. This is even more extreme if I use the Tab key to skip from field to field. I have an application that works fine with all supported browsers and OS's but I experience problems with the latest Chrome 40.0.2214.69 update on the iPad. In particular, input disappears from a scrolling text box when focus is moved off the textbox to a new input field or button. In FMS13v5, I'm adapting an old IWP layout (in classic theme) to WebDirect. Some layouts render in the web browser with the layout part (e.g. header, body...) stretching to fill the entire width of the Browser window. Some layouts, however, seem to size themselves only to the width of the layout set when editing the layout in FileMaker Pro. I'm not sure I understand the difference, but it appears to be that Classic mode = full width, whereas if I take a Classic theme layout and update it to Custom theme, then the width = fixed width. I do not know if anyone else is faced with this. But some of my WebDirect users are using very low bandwidth to access the application. When I say low bandwidth I mean the best they can get is 9600 baud or 2G or are using VSAT with high latency. This results in the application (a 20 field layout) is all but unusual, with delays between leaving a field and entering the next of around 5 seconds sometimes. How do I turn off this updating feature and go back to more of a IWP way of doing things? aka submit page when I am done editing. Is this a setting on the server? If so, where is it? I have tried all sorts of portal combinations and they are not showing up on WebDirect. Sometimes they flash on screen, but then quickly disappear. All I see is a thin line that would be on the left side of the portal. Tried in Safari and Chrome with the same results. Any ideas - Sam PS - my database is being served through a Filemaker host.

I am creating a solution for WebDirect. I have a portal on the left and related records to the right. When the portal row is selected the related records show on the right. What I want to have happen is when the layout is entered to have the first portal row automatically show the related records to the right. Hi All I'm putting in field in a web direct layout with a script trigger that activates on field exit. The field is set to 'go to the next object' with tab/enter/CR The field is used to search/filter so that a user enters a search/filter criteria and hits enter/CR - which activate the search/filter script. This of course works well on FMP client, but NOT on web direct On web direct using enter/CR on the same field - the field will 'go to the next line' which results in the in-ability to user enter/CR to activate the script. I'm using web direct and have successfully benn able to provide the client with a link that takes them directly to the FileMaker app without seeing the FMS menu screen. Within the app I'm providing the user with an exit button to leave the Filemaker app and don't want the client to see the log-off/sign-off window from the FMS menu screen. Is there any easy way to exit the app, terminate the session and close the FMS menu window?

Hello Forum.. I have a solutions that I'm finishing up. The solutions creates folders and sub-folders on a drive that the users have access to. Is it possible for this solution to work vie web using web direct? I'm assuming it will...just wanted some feedback.

I've googled / searched this forum but still having problems with: drop-down lists often take 2 or 3 clicks before the dropdown actually appears. Same for buttons... I have to click 2 or 3 times for a button to work. I get that if a page is loading then buttons / dropdowns may not work... but I have to wait a good 30 seconds after a layout stops loading before buttons / dropdowns work. And tabs... apart from not rendering properly generally (I posted another thread about that), I have an invisible tab control within a main tab control. I added a drop shadow to the main tab control and now the invisible (active) tab also has a shadow... what the?! Any h…

I have a web direct app that runs fine when opened by 1 person but crashes when someone else try's to access it. We have 200 license connections so this should be able to do this. Full error starts with "[webdirect] (admin [fmwebdirect])" is modifying this record. You cannot use this record until, "[webdirect] (admin [fmwebdirect]) is finished.

Hello, We have a WebDirect solution where customers can log in to a personal account and make payments via credit card. This solution was developed as an IWP solution in FMP 12 running on Filemaker Server 12 Advanced using the Troi URL plugin to connect to the Nelix Transax gateway. Worked flawlessly. We have recently upgraded to Filemaker Server Advanced 13.05 and have hit a wall with the Trio URL plugin. The plugin fires fine on the server-side using FMP. However when run through WebDirect - nothing happens. Webdirect inside a Joomla iframe gets 'stuck' (see attachment) displaying the status and menu bar.  It doesn't always happen, sometimes the script completes as it should.  When it doesn't, it requires clicking within the iframe to conclude remaining script steps.  Below are a few things I have already tried.  Moving the script steps for hiding status and menu. Removing the script steps for hiding status and menu. Using http: in place of https: in URL. Same results when loading URL directly with no iframe.  Same behavior in IE11, Chrome35 in Win7 as well as Safari and Chrome in OSx Mavericks so I don't believe it is a browser issue.  Seems to happen more…

Has anyone noticed a blank value appear at the top of a drop down value list in WebDirect. It appears in WD with related values or static values and does not appear in FM client. Running latest updates and occurs in WD on Win and Mac. Any ideas or fixes?

Hi, I am testing my login with "WebDirect" and I purposely push my users into a "Custom Menu" set the closes "ALL" access to the "File Menu" commands. I provide "scripts" for all actionable items. Since the "Custom Menu" is ignored in "WebDirect" how can I "HIDE" or "Prevent" access to these items ( Find, Edit, View, Insert, Records, Scripts and Help ) ?? completely across the entire "WebDirect" user experience. Just porting a FM11 database into FM13 Server. When I access the database through a browser (Safari or Chrome) and try and scroll down a list of records a) I don't see a scroll bar along the side and using my mouse scroll wheel, the scroll is slow and disjointed. I also have a Next 25 and Previous 25 button and they too function very slowly. Any suggestions ? Am I supposed to see a scroll bar? Thanks.

Hi I have text displayed in a text field and need it to be copy-able to a user's clipboard. When the text on the web page field is selected, right-click and copy doesn't work. The only way is to select it and use cmd/ctrl-C, which many casual users would not know. I then thought to use a script trigger to use the Copy[select] command. But this doesn't appear to work at all in WebDirect. Any suggestions? This, by the way is related to my other post on using a URL stored in a text field. David

Hi The openURL command appears to always cause the link to open in a new browser window. If users have the Block Popup Windows preference set (which would be many of the public), the new page is blocked. Most people wouldn't know (and wouldn't have the patience) to find the preference and turn it off. I was hoping to include the parameter target="_self" but there appears to be no way to do this in openURL. Any suggestions? David

WebDirect doesn’t allow relationships to databases on other servers, nor importing of data except via Excel. I have a Filemaker server in our DMZ – the idea is that users can update their personal details over the web. But as their personal details can change frequently in the master database on an internal server, there needs to be a way to automatically keep the DMZ database synced so that the up-to-date info is displayed. Would like some opinions on the feasibilty and the ease of implementing the following. I have an optometry practice in which I store patient data demographics, medical info and transactions in Filemaker. When a patient makes an appointment, I would like to send them a link to where they can go to our website and fill in their address, insurance info, medical history, etc. I would like the website form to have any data we already have to be pre-filled in the form. Hi there, We have a client who absolutely insists on using IE9 to access WebDirect pages. According to minimum specifications, only 10 & 11 are supported by Filemaker. Does anyone have any experience of viewing WD pages over IE9? All help gratefully received, Joe

Hi We now have parents connecting to our Medical Portal, which is a WebDirect interface. Parents on reasonable broadband are connecting ok, but parents on satellite connections and weak 3G can't even authenticate. It appears there must be a lot of handshaking happening, which their connections can't cope with. Can anyone comment on this? David

I'm trying to find out if there are any tools that are WebDirect compatible that will enable a user to place annotations/check marks/lines/etc onto a drawing from within WebDirect. I've done a little searching and so far have not found any compatible products, although Todd Geist's GoDraw looks to be a step in the right direction I do not believe that its WebDirect compatible. Anybody know if there's something out there?

This is a strange one to me. I have an application where I am entering decimal number (1.5, 3.4....). When I run this application on my client, it allows me to enter the number with a period for the decimal point. But if I run this on WebDirect, it will only accept the comma as a decimal point. I suspect that there is a setting on the WebDirect server that I am missing, but I haven't the foggiest where it is. I have create the fields with explicit period for decimal point format, but this has not helped. Does anyone know where this is set on the WD server??

I have an application that was using IWP under FM Server 12, to allow my friends and friends of friends to upload their golf scores, and my system would calculate their USGA handicaps. After upgrading to FM Server 13, IWP not longer exists, and WebDirect does not support mobile devices. So, I set up an alternative server using FM12. A lot of guys that I don't have contact details for, used that IWP based system to upload golf scores. So I don't have a way to tell them all the new URL. Has anybody else run into field formatting issues with WebDirect and Safari/Chrome? I am trying to center-justify and center-align a set of fields, but no matter what I do the Web Direct version ALWAYS appears top-left aligned and justified. No amount of stripping styles/creating new styles fixes this.

I am serving a filemaker solution through filmmaker web direct using Filemaker Server 13. Suddenly I am no longer able to perform a find using web direct. I can perform find when viewing the database outside of web direct. In web direct however, when i click find it goes into find mode with the magnifying glasses in all the fields. When i click on a field, the text cursor blinks once and then I can't type anything in that field. The only way i can type is if I click and hold the mouse button down inside that field. Just deploying my solution on WebDirect.  Everything works fine - all the layouts render okay, functionality is good, etc.  There's one layout, that when I navigate to it in WebDirect: - renders really badly - no field data is showing - no buttons work - no menus work - if I type in a field, it does save any data  It's as if it's paused in "find mode" or something (but it isn't). I've duplicated the layout with the same result.  All other layouts work fine. And every layout is actually identical, just with different fields displaying.
