I've been digging around in FM13 trying to figure out how the field help balloons where done in the "Getting Started" guide. When a field is clicked in some areas of the guide a tip balloon pops up with a focus pointer pointing to the field and some info on the field function. I suppose it could be done with the new hide object config and a calc on Get (ActiveFieldName) on a graphic object but the balloons seem to be a function of FM13 since they appear semi-transparent and background content can still be seen. Have I missed something or did someone at FM use a graphic app to create a whole lotta balloon graphics? The "Getting Started" database isn't unlocked for m…

Have a portal pointing to an Invoices table, which accumulates all invoices across a number of an individual client's animals that I have treated. Whilst sorting the portal by date (in descending order), it is sorting the invoices by month, however the day order isn't always correct, and I can see no pattern suggesting why this is so. I have checked the date formatting for the date fields, and they are correct (dd/mm/yyyy). I don't have any second level filtering applied at this time ( e.g. by animal name) - which, incidentally, adding this level does not help matters. Any suggestions thanks?

I have a layout that contains a portal. The portal shows rows which contain dates. The master table (the "one" table in the "one-to-many" relationship) has two global fields, gStartDate and gEndDate. I would like to have a script that would do a find that would select all the records in the master table, that have related rows in the portal table, that fall within these two dates. Is there anyway to have my buttons on top of a slider pane uniformly stretch (that is each one gets wider) when the window is stretched? I am using an ipad size as the basis of my design for the buttons. I am afraid though, this isn’t possible. This also includes fields, but again I can’t have the behaviour I want, I usually have a field in the middle I stretch, which aesthetically isn’t where it’s at. Having said that, if there is no other work around, I am going to use scripts here to script in going to a new layout upon a considerable change in screen dimensions. Which is possible in FM 13

Finally getting a chance to play with fmp12. in Inspector, position, I used to have the choice of inches, centimeters or pixels. In fmp12 the default choices are inches, centimeters and what I assume are points. Are pixels gone? I am guessing they probably are because of retina displays doubling up on the resolution, but I would like to know for sure.

I have a file that displays thumbnail images in a grid (7 portals wide x 4 records). This displays the first 28 images that meet the portal criteria. In some cases there are more than 28 images that fit the criteria... and I'm hoping that I can use slide controls to allow the user (on FM GO) to swipe to the second slide control panel to see the NEXT 28 images that meet the portal criteria, etc. I pasted my "7 column" portal in the first panel of the slide control. (each of the 7 are the same portal, but starting at a different record number - ie. first column starts at record 1 and displays 4 records, the next columns start at record 5, 9, 13, etc.) My strategy …

I'm looking to find out if it is possible to filter a value list based on the users privilege set, or perhaps something similar such as an administrator using checkboxes to define what values are available. I would use the Pop-Up menu with a script trigger to perform the "command"... After making a number of changes to a database, I ran into a perplexing problem where I would call up a layout in a script by a name calculation, and the proper layout wouldn't appear. But the layout of that name very definitely exists, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason why I would get an error. Does anybody know if there are situations where a layout can't be navigated to by name? If it would help to have a demonstration of the problem, I have taken the database, which is fairly complex, and modified it so that the problem can be easily observed. a. A few elements simply refuse to stay put, to their anchoring to the border, the left on in this example. However when they are on the header their behaviour is the desired (and required) one. b. This isn’t a bug. I am implementing a slider pane with buttons on to that go to the slider pages via “go to object” commands. So far so good. First time using the web viewer, and I have some inconsistencies, just want to see if anyone else has run into this or has ideas before I abandon it and stick to using a browser separate from the database layout... This database was created to help track and route orders on a daily basis. Orders are entered as records, with customer address copying from a related table. I created a script that copies the addresses of all orders in a found set into a single field, then places the contents of this field on the clipboard for pasting in Mapquest (within the Web Viewer). The new slide transition effects when switching between records and multi-panels brings us a giant step closer to producing a solution that looks and feels much closer to native apps. One thing that appears to still be missing is a sliding effect when switching between layouts. Has anyone figured out a way to achieve this? Hi,  I have two privilege sets; Admin and Staff.  All I'm trying to do is, when a user logs in as "STAFF" i install a menu set called "STAFF" real simple.  And it works :-)  However, I need this menu set to stay put until I runs a script to do otherwise.  But for some strange reason, after my script sets the menu to "STAFF" everything is perfect until I click a button to goto another layout and all of a sudden Filemaker standard menu set load  WHY!!!  Can't the menu set stay put until I runs another script setting it back to Filemaker standard set.  What is the point if you have to psychoanalyze the process for 47 hours.  I mean come on!!! …

Basically I'm experimenting with different display strategies and I like the idea of using merge variables as buttons. My objective is to create a static number of merge variables, named $$mergeVar1-$$mergeVar10; then based on some trigger, declare these variables dynamically by way of a loop; then create some kind of button toggle/command functionality based on the name and content of the variable I press. Hello: I have a layout where the title bar is off the screen and I can't seem to grab it to pull it down. I know there is a key combination on WINDOWS using the mouse keys to pull down a window like that BUT is there a key combination to grab it and pull it down on a MACINTOSH. I am having problems with the way maps are presented in windows. I am alternating between fm 12 and 13 but I haven’t tested 13 yet to see if it solves the problem. Namely the map assumes a position towards the left and I cannot center it or zoom out (btw, am I right in assuming ctrl or cmd and “+” doesn’t work in the web viewer. It’s not so far for me.)

I'm not sure if this is possible, but wanted to put it out there and see if anyone has any advice. I have a portal, on layout A, which displays a list of note records for a company. Using a global relationship, a user is able to click a portal row and see the selected items details. The use case is: User scrolls portal row, clicks row, portal row is highlighted, and details are displayed to the right of the portal. A second use case exists whereby a user, from layout B, can run a script that navigates them to layout A and automatically dispays the desired note details. Request clarification: In FMP Advanced 13, when I set a different style for an object when it is in "hover" state, the style is only applied if the object is *enterable in browse mode.* (To be clear, I am not referring to OnHover script trigger or any other sort of script triggering, just FMP's native "hover" style state.) So.... Is there a definitive list anywhere of calendar implimentations & 3rd party options? 1. It would be great to have a listing of them, so one can make an intelligent decision. 2. It would also be great to have some comparisons by "knowledgeable" individuals regarding their options. One of the features that are in FMP13 is a new option for a summary field that will gather the records into a list ( List Of ). Though it isn't exactly a calculation or function that we were looking for, it is great that we finally get something that has been needed for a while. Is there a way to format a layout so that it will dynamically change when printing a receipt? I am in the process of creating a POS for a quick service restaurant where the receipt needs to show any modifications to the customers order? As of now, I am contemplating building a field which would build the order in html to print, but that doesn't sound efficient. I've created several databases in FM12 and consistently find that when I define borders on a field they only display on the record currently selected. I've also noticed that they do not appear when using the field in a report which also has the borders defined. I thought that I'd seen some of my previous FM12 databases show this border specification on all records . . perhaps I was looking at an FM11 database. Is there a trigger that I can set in the inspector to change this so that all records will display the border formats?

Hello, Is someone used / tested the calculations tab label as calculating layout? I use them for calculations layout, independent of context while waiting for the labels calculated. no field and copy paste, a layout to another. Here are 2 "techniques", the tab label as a calc and the window's UnicVariable for pass text for each windows Part of the demo can be complicated(?) but you can simplify and adapt the way. I am running into a curious problem. I have a navigation wrapper script that essentially goes to a layout and displays a particular found set. There are a few scripts involved: Wrapper (sets some defaults) -> Filter (refines records to display) -> Sort I am putting some variables in the script to show me the overall time it takes for this layout to load for the end user (i.e. for it to display the data). I use "Get(UTCMsecs)" at various points to record how long certain steps take in addition to the overall time. I then have a dialog show me all these variables at the end of the script. I periodically duplicate a layout and then tie to a new table occurrence related to the original base table. I find that I have to go through and mechancially update each field on the duplicated layout to refer to the new TO even though the fields are exaclty the same corresponding fields that originally referred to the source TO that I duplicated It is a mechanical task that drives me a little buggy. Is there some way of saying in one command "update all these fields on this new layout tied to this new TO to actually refer to this new TO or do I have to continue to do it field by field in the mechanical fashion that I am currently employing? Hello, I am wondering if it is possible via calculation to compare a single field with all options in a value list? I am using this as a portal filter. I have several portals on a layout, all from the same table that use different value lists for selection. I have a layout that shows a WorkOrders table with fields WorkOrderNo, StartDate, Technician and HoursWorked. I've set it so that there is a sub-summary for sorting by WorkOrderNo and by Technician (Drop-down list of the names of the technicians). There is no problem with sorting by WorkOrderNo. But, when I sort by Technician, I start getting some funny results. This demonstrates the List Of Summary Field and how to preserve vertical position so that your script can perform its task if you need to include the NULL values. By default the List Of Summary field does not preserve the NULL values. When you drag a field from the new hovering drag field window, the black and white with the translucency, it assumes the theme of your layout both in the label and in the field. Very nice. But when you change the name of a field and you want to create a label to go along two things don't go as they should, they are omissions that is. The first one is that the label doesn't automatically change to the new field name, at least not always, this behaviour has been unpredictable for me. But even if you check the create label button, the label created doesn't match the layout format. This is certainly an omission imho.

We seem to be having some major issues laying out a new document set in v.12v3. I'm not sure if there has been some change between pre 12 versions and 12 that is making this relatively simple task so painful. In this document set there are a series of leading subsummary parts, a body part, a trailing subsummary part, and finally a trailing grand summary part. We need vertical lines that cross the subsummary parts and the body part to essentailly separate colomuns visually. The body part (and the vertical line) need to slide up based on field contents. We can't seem to get predictable results for this. Does this function differently in v12? Suggestions? …

Hi, all: What's the "best practice" when it comes to creating reports in FileMaker for both domestic (U.S.) and international users when it comes to paper size? Currently, all the reports in the solution I'm working on are sized for Letter but I could adjust the print margins 1/4" smaller to accommodate the narrower A4 paper...but that doesn't appear--to me, anyway--that it's the best solution. I am creating a membership directory from my FM membership database. I would like to get the names of the states to repeat at the top of the next column or page when the number of records for a particular state doesn't fit in only one column. It's just a vector forward icon I am using, pasting it from illustrator to fm. Using the layout on a mac client there are no problems, but on windows the icon is whited out so to speak. Quite possibly a bug?

When I am posting a new topic on this forum my browser window shows ' Posting New Topic - FMForums '. If I go to window menu this same browser window will appear the same in the drop down list. In my filemaker setup however the windows do not take the name of the layout but the name of the database, and each addltional windo a numeric suffix as in, NAData, NAData - 1, NAData - 2... Hi everyone, I would like to be able to have multiple form letters that can be sent to all owners in my database. I can achieve this by having one form and putting merge fields on it. If I want anymore form letters I copy the first layout and rename it and then use a button to go to this layout. How can I create more than one form letter? Is it done via a portal? Also once this is accomplished can I do a find and then only send the form letter to the found set? Hi all I have two portals on a layout displaying two different sets of information. One displays records that have a return date matching the system date, and one displays records that have a start date matching the system date. The portals are on a layout that references the same table, so I have set up a self join with my booking table. The filter calculation is simply: Bookings2::Start-date = get(currentdate) And bookings2::end-date = get(currentdate) for each portal respectively. Thing is, the portals display no records. Is my calculation too simple?

What are the concepts to begin understanding to not ever let a field be empty or not one of you possible values you want? For instance: Cat or Dog for the purpose of what you are doing are all you need to receive as data You also never want it to be “”, NULL, FALSE, 0, or Empty (so something like 1 could do) I have started understanding about Auto Enter but this is more of a Validation Issue correct? I’m trying to set up my personal Sales Order Solution. It is meant for running (with a Spanish keyboard) on a Windows-OS 10” netbook, or maybe in a future on an iPad in KioskMode. With the help of St. Google, I’ve been able to do a decent solution until now, but at this moment I’m seriously stuck. Probably caused by an relationship error or maybe by an inappropriate CF. My problem is related to ‘item searching’. The items I need to search for, are in at least 4 languages: English, French, German and Spanish. I had to implement my own, and I was wondering since in the form views you only get one record, how do you navigate it then, since the starter solutions have been created with the provision to run them without the status bar, and I refer to the desktop ones, not the iPad or iPhone ones.

I have a little resource file of various little symbols, icons and dingbat-like graphics I've used in my old layouts over time, but they don't go very well with the new FMP12 thematic styles. By any chance is there a resource I'm overlooking that supplies a host of theme-appropriate icons designed to address a range of common actions? For instance, I have a little graphic with a red 'X' inside a circle that I used to put on portal roles as a Delete button -- but it doesn't "go" with the theme I'm using in 12. But I see a lot of /* */ comments in the scripts where values should have been and values set to "" in script steps, in the contact starter solution for example. Hey guys. I was browsing the interwebs for a calendar solution to show the duration of booked assets. I found a simple one on here but can't seem to relocate it. What I'm looking to do is have all my assets listed down the left of the chart, and have the days of the month listed across the top. It would be in a monthly view. The chart would have the booking date ranges in a "bar graph" spanning that date range for the respective asset. Is this feisable? I'm going to keep looking for the original post I found, but this is what I'm going for.

Hi guys. Can someone tell me the standard practise to create personalized layouts. That is, say an employee's personal layout with their data, and everything related to them. I have a CSS Gradient in a Web Viewer. It works great on all web browsers except IE10. It will not display if IE10 is installed. Hi, I change my layout number to a name as soon as the layout is created. And I've been stuck navigation to my layouts via the name not the number and here is why. Any help here i would be grateful. Thinking I could just use the "Get ( LayoutNumber )" function. But to my surprise, nope! Hi, I have a file table that has many Forms. Each form has it's own layout. How can I provide a field my users can click into, list the layout names that I need ( only the Form Layouts ), and have the user select whichever form layout they wanted based on the drop down list. Value List doesn't work to the best of my understanding. And the other alternative is to create a new table just for layout names. Hello, I use the web viewer javabased calendar from so simple. It's working very well but I have a problem with the anchors. Does someone nows about it ? My problem is that we must put a anchor date before the anchor tab view like this : #date=01.11.2013,mode=day But I would like to replace the value of the date with the actual date so this url with the anchor is valid everyday. I don't know how. I've tried to put many of the java get(actual date) parameter I've found or put a filemaker calculation field like date=filed but it's not working. Any idea ? Kind regards. So as the title says, I'm looking at Google Analytics with filemaker, however I've never used Google Analytics before. I can understand how to work it with a website no problem. What I'm trying to understand is how I get it to read in a file. I know to transmit data from the file we need a web viewer, and I can work on that after I've got the basics down. I'm a software developer who is used to programming with languages such as C, C++, C#, Perl, PHP, etc. A client asked me to help him with a clients/sales management solution for his company based on FileMaker. I'm experienced with relational databases and had no problems setting up the necessary database for him. Hello, I'm working on setting up an email campaign in Filemaker and found a tutorial that references a template that came with the Business Productivity Kit that looks so perfect - it would save me heaps of time. On the phone support told me these files would probably work with FMP12 but I can't find a download for the BPK anywhere! Does anyone know if it is hosted on any sharing websites or would be able to upload it? Or know for certain if it works? It seems rather clumsy. So here's what I do. Two tables one is employees and the other companies, pk for companies has to populate its fk counterpart in employees. On my layout I choose to show Company Name to populate a fk_Company_Serial no, and then I have the company name looked up and auto inputed. I 'd like to know if there's a more elegant way to do this. Per most of the examples I've seen, I have a Portal in my PO layout for a Line Items table, which pulls from a Products table. The LineItems table contains the fields Item Description, Item ID Number, Discount Rate, Quantity, Taxable, Unit Price, Amount, Amount Taxable & Discount Amount. The records displayed in the portal on the PO layout are Item ID, Item Description, Quantity, Unit Price, Amount. When I type an item number into the field, it populates the description. Please see the attached file... you can log in as a guest with full access privileges. This is a very tiny file. The table attached to the form can get very long. It would be nice if I could sort the records by Fiscal Year, Quarter, and then ID. The Fiscal Year and Quarter fields should not be null. I've tried applying field validation but... in doing so I found the portal resets the rows upon field validation. It's very confusing so to the enduser so I haven't applied validation in the past. I have found solutions on filtering portals by date ranges or by single words, but nothing for filtering both. I would like to know if a portal can be filtered by both? If not then my issue below is moot. When a field has a script trigger attached to it and you view the field in layout mode, an icon is displayed to show that the field has a script trigger attached. Why should this icon appear twice, and what does this mean?   I attach an image which shows the duplicated icon and the script trigger dialog for the field.  The layout is in a database hosted on an FMP11 Server Advanced installation, and the layout is displayed in an FMP11 Advanced client - this installation is Windows based. Hello, We have a long document as a single record. I am trying to build a table of contents when we save as PDF. I need to determine the page number of the subheadings, which are fields. I have a script that pulls the subhead and its correct page number, but only if I can get it to the correct page by go to last then go to previous. Hello! Is it possible to have a script run to change the color of a simple text box - I am trying to have it actually blink, between like, Red, and white. I am looking to get it to blink if certain conditions are met for the record, like, if it's an exempt (vs. non-exempt) item -it would blink to notify the user. Hello, I've read through posts regarding what seem like similar situations, but I am afraid I just can't wrap my brain around the examples. I need to track errors for employees. I need to make the database as easy as possible for the managers to use, otherwise they won't use it. The first field would be the manager selecting their own initials from a simple value list. I'm just wanting to know if anyone has some suggestions as to way one particular layout would be updating slower than the others that are designed in a similar way. The layout is pretty much only portals. 4 of them in fact. One is a navigation bar down the side (staff members), the other 3 display the relevant data from the selected staff member. Only 1 of these portals is used to enter new records. The layout is based on my global table. I have a drop down field in a portal with a value list attached, the value list is a number of different written functions, for example "Set Priority", "Set Normal" , "Delete"... there is a script trigger set to 'OnObjectModify'. Hello there, I am brand new to FMP 12 and wow do I have a lot to learn. I am stuck and hoping you can help: Basically what I have is forms that need filed out for different rooms in a house, but its different for each house. In one house, I might need a form for the Kitchen, Bathroom, and Bedroom. In another house, it might be the living room, office, and kitchen.
