FileMaker WebDirect

I have a user in the latest version of Web Direct who continually gets kicked out -- he can't even log in now in Chrome or Safari. He's cleared cookies and cache. The problem had gone away for some weeks but then it recurred today. This is the error message he receives: Any ideas?

I have a report in web direct that shows a list of records. An issue I'm having is when the report includes enough records that the page scrolls, when I change the value of a field, and then click to another record, the page refreshes and leaves me at a different place in the list of records. Not very good from a user perspective. Is there anything I can do to prevent the page from refreshing or does that just happen when the browser sends the changed record info back to the server?

Has anyone found a workaround for Save Records as PDF in web direct? I know this feature is incompatible with direct scripting and I've been trying to think of a workaround. This feature would be great and is needed to generate any sort of reasonable reports, but I've had not luck scripting a workaround so far. Help!

Trying to export a pdf that is in a container field under WebDirect. The file is hosted on a FM Cloud server and webdirect is running on Chrome on a windows 10 machine. Although I have tried this on several windows 10 machines and several different browsers and the behavior is the same. The script step works fine, right up to the point where I am in the "Download files" dialog box and I click the button with the filename to download it. In chrome, I get a quick "waiting for response...." message in the bottom of the browser, which quickly disappears. The file itself never appears to start downloading. any help? Thanks

I'm running Filemaker 16 and Filemaker Server 15. In my Webdirect report with subsummaries, there are seemingly random horizontal lines/rules that don't appear in when the report is viewed using the client software. I've noticed a small rendering bug with WebDirect on FileMaker Server 16.0.2. Steps to reproduce the bug: Create a layout with a Top Navigation layout part. Add objects to the Body part. Open a browser and ensure the vertical height is smaller than the layout height. View the layout in Webdirect and there's a horizontal scrollbar, which shouldn't be there. Hello All, I want to use the FM starter solution (Invoice). in the Webdirect Layout (Invoice Details | Web) I want to create a new customer using the button (Select) but Im getting an error ("This operation cannot be performed because one or more required related records are not available and cannot be created"). I created a database in FM pro. It has 50 records. A person can see the list of records. There is a button that will open a PDF that is associated to the record. For Record 1, the button will open the PDF "fileserver\folder1\0001.pdf". This works. Now i'm trying to implement this through webdirect. A person will log in, see a list of records, then click a button to the PDF. However. Using the same technique as the FM Pro, this does not work. I error-capture, and it generates an 'Error 3: File not found". this was attempted in Google Chrome and Firefox. Hello, I am developing an app where users may login with Android or IOS via Webdirect. On IOS (safari) via Webdirect-- everything is fine. With Android(chrome)-- anytime the script refreshes the screen or switches panels-- all uncommitted data is lost. any ideas or workarounds?-- my script checks validation and i really need to refresh to trigger conditional formatting also hoping to have a multi-panel entry so the user does not have to scroll to the bottom (layout has about 100 fields) thanks!

Hello, I'm testing FMS16 WebDirect with a two files solution (an interface file that loads a data file). When the inteface file opens, it doesn't load the data file. My FMS license has a limit of 1 user connection, that seems to be the issue. Does this means that a two files solution will use two connections per user that opens the solution?

For starters, the text shows up as white on a white background, which it did not do before. We have been and are using the Cool Grey theme. Hi, We are currently using File-maker server 14 along with Pro(250 License) and Pro advanced( 1 license). In this we are also using webdirect for few reports and data entry and no. of users are less than 25. But i am thinking to replace Webdirect to CWP by PHP. So i need suggestion on it as my business scenario. Also we are not good in PHP, for CWP definitly we would be require PHP expertise resource. So 1 side webdirect with 25 License cost and 2nd side implement CWP using PH resource by requiring all related technical specification of it. Please suggest.

This seems to be a bug in Filemaker as the layout is not displaying correctly in Webdirect. If there's a corruption in the Theme then repairing the file should fix it - hence why I think it's a bug. I have attached an image of how it displays in Filemaker, Webdirect 14 and also the file. The only way I can think of to fix it is to rebuild the entire theme, but this is a massive pain. I've developed a webdirect solution which is working great on desktops, but I'm running into a weird quirk on mobile. When users leave safari (on an iphone) and make a call, open their calendar, etc - even for as little as 3 minutes - when they come back to safari they have to re-authenticate because the session has expired. (This is for a sales team that makes calls and schedules appointments, so they spend 2-5 minutes on the phone and in their calendar app before returning to safari to enter the details into the database.) My guess is the phone is suspending safari processes to conserve battery, and if the users open other apps it's forcing safari to need to reload…

Sorry for my poor english I made an application in FM15 that is used on the Web The application shows some HTML paginated data and then print with the print command of the browser used. I have no problem with Safari and Chrome, while Firefox will not let me see the contents of the Web Viewer. In the web viewer content is so: "Data: text / html, <Html> <Head> . . . . </ Html> " Firefox in the web viewer frame does not see anything if I open the source of the frame it makes me see the HTML text content but it does not render HTML Some idea? My client is using FM Server 14. On it I have a web form that is accessible to the public. It requires no user name or password...it's entirely open via guest login. I have server scripts that import the data entered into a broader ticketing solution that is locked down. The tickets are then deleted in the guest-accessed file. We are now looking at upgrading to FM Server 15 and the new licensing model. I have a sinking solution that this kind of approach is untenable with FM's new paradigm. Is this approach broken w/FM Server 15...requiring me to use something like Google Forms for data capture?

Hi, I wrote a script in FM Pro, which reads a list of files from given directory, searches through a set of records, and uploads each file into a container field of a matching record (the matching occurs by file name = unique record id). Hello, I have a FMS 15.03 running on Sierra. I recently upgraded the OS from 10.12 to 10.12.2. As soon as I did this Webdirect stopped functioning. The webdirect URL gives a "404 not found" error message. I have tried downgrading the system from Time Machine backups to 10.12.1 but to no avail. I have checked all the troubleshooting items that can be found here. There is nothing I can find that would impede webdirect's functionality. Would anyone have any idea what might be amiss? Or any ideas for getting Webdirect back up and running?

FM11 had instant web publishing. We have a FM database hosted in FM 14 advanced (not FM server). We want someone to do data entry the way we used to with instant web publishing in a browser. How to do this? Web direct requires FM server?

Some of my users are having intermittent problems with my webdirect solution, and if it were 1 or 2, I would probably dismiss it as network error, but it's happening a little too frequently for my liking. The symptom is that (even the simplest) layouts will start flashing, refreshing, and then we get the wheel of eternity. I have witnessed this myself on my phone when it is on WiFi, this will start happening... then I'll switch off WiFi and use the cellular network and it will work fine. I currently have a Filemaker 15 solution running on Filemaker Server 15 Advanced. We are currently accessing the solution on Webdirect via VPN connection. I would like to open ports 80/443 so that users could access the solution without connecting to VPN. However, my IT department has flagged security concerns. My question is how real the security concerns are. I know that Filemaker Server 15 Advanced should be encrypting the data. Would that make a non-VPN connection secure? Thanks for any advice.

Everyone, I am working on migrating from filemaker server 12 with IWP. I currently use it on some iPods through safari. I am able to call a javascript function that correlates to a button on the layout to process a barcode scan. Is there any way to get autofill in the browser to autofill the username and password? I've created a guest landing page for the user to be able to input their login info, but it still doesn't autofill. It is the number 1 complain of the users of my solution. Has anyone had any luck in using a BarCode scanner with Webdirect? Here is what I am trying to achieve. Have a user walk up to our workstation and scan their badge to take a survey. I have the workflow working in FileMaker but I can't get it to work in WebDirect. I can see the barcode field flash with the ID that was scanned by it quickly clears out. There are two IP addresses I use to access my FM solution on FM Server -- for the first, I need to be connected to my company's VPN and for the other I don't. However, I'm only able to access the file via WebDirect using the one with VPN, but not the other. xxx.16.xx.36/fmi/webd -- requires VPN and works. xx.xxx.118.36/fmi/webd -- non-VPN and doesn't work. Fms 15, elcaptain, macbook air client ipad mini 2 ios last update browser safari i set the numeric keyboard touch for a numeric field. it work using filemaker go, using web direct the keyboard is always the standard alfanumeric keyboard. I tested some other filemaker example and the numeric keyboard doens't came up. does it is normal or is a web direct "bug"?

I have some edit boxes where there can be a lot of text, but I need them to read-only. I have forced the scrollbars to display, but when the field is read-only, the user can't scroll to look at them. If you have a database file name with spaces in it, FileMaker properly displays in the WebDirect landing screen and you can launch the file. If you link to it with %20's in the name, it properly loads the database. If you link to it with spaces instead of %20's it breaks as it either just hangs or comes back with database not available error. Presumably because it's looking for the database name up to the first space. Most webservers seem to automatically either redirect or swap out the spaces with %20 as if you access a file say http://myserver.com/test file.html it automatically converts it to http://myserver.com/test%20file.html FM 1…

When on webdirect I copy/paste text into a box, but when I click away the text is automatically reformatted with double spacing. Is there a way I can prevent this from happening. If I copy/paste into the desktop software, or even via webdirect on the computer hosting the server, the double spacing doesn't happen. Thanks!

I have a web direct solution which has the opening script which starts with these commands: Show/Hide Toolbars [Lock;hide] Show/Hide Menubar [Hide] Yet when I launch it, the toolbar shows up for about 1-2 seconds as the app launches. This looks really ugly and unprofessional. Is there any way to truly hide the toolbar from showing?

Leading is the vertical space between lines of text. I can easily change it in the FMP file, but no matter how I change the style or line spacing there, the leading is minimal when the page is drawn in the Web browser (Chrome and Safari)--the top of the text touches the bottom of the text in the line above. (BTW: The font is Verdana.) Am I missing something to adjust the leading so it appears correctly in the browser or ... ? TIA for your help!

I recently did a demo for a colleague of some Webdirect layouts via Join.me. She was located in California and I was in Brooklyn, NY. While the layouts had been performing fine for me, when I started to show her the layouts via Join.me, I started experiencing repeated page refreshes. While this is not the first time I've experienced excessive page refreshes in Webdirect, I was wondering if possibly Join.me was contributing to the problem in that instance. Hi i have been using webdirect for my clients for the past few month now , worked ok at most times - (except when when web direct was down) The solution has undergone a major redesign/redevelopment , basically just layout changed and a couple more tables added. it was finally working great and was all in order imported all records into it which were several thousands but unfortunatly when accessing it in web direct the system freezes after the second click , it lets me click once on any button then justs freezes. My Webdirect solution being hosted on a Filemaker 15 server is not selecting the contents of a field when tabbing from field to field. Everything is set properly and works fine in FM. I previously had an issue with a tab control going wonky and I had to start from a fresh theme to get it back working so I'm hoping it's not custom theme related. Thoughts? Peter

Hi Folks, We have a fairly heavy duty Filemaker system with a volume license currently running FM Server 14 and FM14 and will probably upgrade to V15 soon. There are approx 60-70 PC users from 3 different sites logged on at any one time and all works great ... However, they now want their salesreps to be able to view filemaker info on their phones and also to edit/create records and send back to filemaker ... This is all obviously very easy with Filemaker Go, but the problem is that they use Windows phones and do NOT wish to change to iPhones :-( ..... When accessing a database via web direct from my iPad I am unable to type into any calculation field while in Find Mode. The field behaves as it does when in browse mode. Any letters typed into the field immediately disappear.

I have a client that just moved from FM 9 to FM 13. This is a school that has many teachers that used the database via IWP, so now they're using WebDirect. I've been researching how people handle logins for WebDirect and my head is swimming with contradictory information. On my existing website I have 1,775 users. Their account information is stored in a mySQL database. The account information is little more than username, password, company name, and real name. For the new WebDirect site, I was originally planning to autologin to the file using an account that only had access to the login screen. Then, use custom dialogue to allow the username and password to be entered. The solution has a standard A4 form on the left side and a web portal display on the right. When I upload it to Webdirect I only see the left side form. I'm doing something wrong in the design part - I seem to be limited to standard portrait and when I try landscape it makes no difference. I need the web viewer and the form in the same display. I have a CWP solution in PHP that gets price data from FMP, then posts a form for Authorize.net for credit card payment. To avoid heavy PCI rules, we refer to Authorize.net only, and use their form for customers to enter credit card information. I'd like to migrate this to a WebDirect solution, but can't find a way to POST the required data to Authorize.net's website. This is odd. I remotely administer a client's FM solution. Despite the fact that my clients haven't reported any issues...when I try to access the solution via WebDirect...Chrome/Windows...all I seem to get is the dreaded spinning wheel. And this is before I even open a database! Just trying to load the initial WebDirect menu can take over a minute! And often I can't even open a database at all. It was working pretty well until a few weeks ago. Now it's completely broken. Mac access is fine. iOS access is fine. But on my Windows computer (monster-64 GB RAM/8 core/Win 8.1) it's toast.

I am evaluating File Maker Pro 14 and Server 14. After uploading a database to Sever 14, when the FM tries to open the version on the server I get this error: The file "DBTrackingODBC.fmp12" could not be opened. (Extended privilege diabled) The first database I tried worked, but this one it not. The only real differences are that I added an Admin password to this one and the tables are ODBC (to an Azure SQL server database if that matters.) After uploading your database to the server, how do you make changes to it? I cannot find this explicitly stated anywhere, though I think I have figured it out through a process of elimination. But I wanted to make sure I've got this correct and understand any idiosyncrasies. Do you just open the file from the server rather then the local copy? How does that work with a non-local server? Hello, I have data to import into a text field from excel or csv files. As samples, I have : 978.510 978.510.21 These are reference numbers. They should not be changed. The problem comes with the first sample as fm converts it into a number. It removes the last zero and change the dot to a coma (local culture info). The field is declared as text, indexed, not null and unique. 978.510 => 978,51 - not ok 978.510.21 => 978.510.21 - ok Thanks.

It's a form that visitors fill in, the submit button of which executes a script that creates a few records based on the form contents and sends an email to the visitor. We started with the email being plain text using FileMaker's built-in Send Mail script step. The client asked for the additional feature that the emails be HTML instead. So, while retaining the plain text version sent to actual visitors, I added the ability for HTML email to be sent to some testing email addresses. Actual visitors don't yet see the HTML email. Since this feature is now back in FileMaker 14, I figure I'll ask here. How you do pass multiple parameters into a Web Direct script? All the docs say is http://<host>/fmi/webd#<database name>[?script=<script name>[&param=<script parameter>][&<$variable name>=<value>]] But it doesn't say anything about passing multiple parameters. Do I have to set up my own delimiter or is there a specific syntax I need to use for the first parameter, second parameter, etc?

I'm setting up a FM14 WebDirect database, accessing it using the ?homeurl=http://example.com parameter which normally works fine to return the user to the URL I want, upon a normal exit of the web direct database. However, if the user instead times-out, it appears that the homeurl is ignored, and the user goes back to the Webdirect_home.html page instead. Can anyone else confirm this?

Hi, I am working with FMS 13.0.10.1004 and OS X 10.11.2. My setup has been working perfectly for over a year, however since upgrading the system to OS X 10.11.2 from OS X 10.10, web direct no long works. I get a message saying that the server can't be found, when the server works perfectly for those who connect as FMP clients. I have verified all the conditions in troubleshooting Webdirect as presented in the following link Would anyone have any idea what the problem is and whether there is a workaround?

Hi Ok, so we have just completed the set up of our test FM13 server and the application is being accessed via webdirect. I have tested it on Chrome (as our managed image only runs IE8 at present), and I get a login dialog whuich i have to enter my network credentials into. Currently the application is secured by three different Active Directory groups based on the access level of the user, and the users would really like to know if it's possoble for them to not have to sign in? I've been digging around to see if this is a known limitation but I can't see to find any reference that it is. Scenario: Simple flat DB presented in WebDirect. Layout is in List view. Popover button on layout that displays just a picture in a container. Popover will not open in WD. if I take the container out, the popover opens fine. If I switch to form view, the popover opens fine with the container. Does anyone know if this is a limitation with List view and WD? I've dug around but can't see a yes or no to this answer. Thanks

I have a single layout that is being published in WebDirect. It's a very simple layout with a slide panel with two panels and half-a dozen global fields a background image, a log and a button. The background image is on the layout instead of the layout part. The button runs a script that just takes the filled in data, pushes it to various created records and presents a thank you page (the second panel). Given a layout that has a web viewer on it and uses the "data" protocol to calculate some HTML that contains links, how can I get those links, when clicked, to open in the parent web browser of WebDirect instead of within the web viewer itself?

We just converted our server (Windows) over to FM14v3 from FM13. A script that use to work properly using web direct no longer functions with Safari 8.08 (haven't tried other versions…). It is a simple export field contents and use to work (popup blocker IS turned off still). You go thru the motions of selecting the file name and clicking the buttons…but the download never happens. And no error messages. Anyone else seen this problem? I attached a file showing the "stuck" dialog…it just sits at this stage and the file download never starts.

Hello. Can Google Adsense be a page component delivered by WebDirect? I'd like to create a web based prototype using FM14/WebDirect where certain pages have a Google Adsense component. Back in the days of IWP, it was possible to change the iwp_auth.html page so that the authentication form would allow a user to save the username/password in the browser for future access. This worked fairly well in place of SSO for web users since it only required them to click one more time and change the saved password when their AD password changed. I can't find anything in the docs or on forums for accomplishing a similar goal in webdirect. The fmwebd_home.html file only has a shell which could allow you to put your own logo, etc on the db home page, but I can't find anywhere to modify the authentication form. In our current business we require our customers to fill out and complete an application that has a few questions and requires a signature every year. Currently we have filemaker export a pdf then email that to the customers. This of course isn't editable and has to be printed out, filled out and mailed back to us. I'm looking for a better solution but I'm not sure which direction to go. I'm looking at either using something like pdf manipulator to create the editable pdf or creating a web form with filemaker than can be filled out online but I'm really inexperienced with pdfs and with filemaker's online features. What is the best solution or what would you recommend?

I have installed Filemaker Server on a Mac mini with OS X server Yosemite. The Filemaker web service uses a private IP with port 80. I have disabled the OS X web service so as to not conflict with port 80. I have forwarded the ports 80, 5003 to the private ip on Cisco router epc3928. I can access the FM database from inside the network using http://<private ip>/fmi/webd I cannot access the database from outside my network using http://public ip/fmi/webd I think the NAT on the router is blocking access but have no idea how to get around this.

Hello I've set up a FM14 database, hosted on FMS 13 Win, The database controlls commits to be possible only when certain field conditions are met and a submitting button is selected. Everything was working fine as expected via Webdirect until I notice that by refreshing the browser you get a not desired or Uncontrolled "commit". is there a way to avoid these?, Somewhere in the web I read that Refreshing the browser has the exact behavior that the "Exit Application Script" does on FMP client, which works fine under FMP client but I can't reproduce the same behavior under WD. Hello, We have a table with more than 15000 rows (museum inventory application). We used to export large amount of rows (some times like 900) to modify several fields in every rows then import it back (with version 8.5 of fmp). Now that we migrated on FMS14, it appears that it is not possible to export the fields' names in the tab file as first line. Is there a way to get the headers in the exported file ? if not please consider adding the possibility in next release. Thank you Thomas.

Have a hosted file that refuses to acknowledge the SendMail command in WebDirect. To test this, I have a short script that opens a Custom Dialog (to verify that the script is running) to tell me that it is preparing to send an email, and a second line with the SendMail script step. It shows the dialog, then does nothing. The "Perform without dialog" option is NOT selected and I'm not trying to attach a file, since these are not supported. According to FileMaker's script step reference, these are the only limitations. Checked with the hosting company and they have nothing in place which would block the SendMail script. Any ideas?

I have a fairly simply layout which contains: [Date Field - set to pop up the calendar picker] [Popup Menu - value list with values 0,1,2,3,4] [text field] [text field] [OK button] [Cancel button] This works great in most situations, however I'm getting reports (that I've verified) that using IE 11, when users click on the popup menu field, it takes a long time (10+ seconds) for the popup menu to open. This seems specific to IE : Chrome and Safari don't show the issue. Any ideas? I'm thinking that the transition from Calendar picker in field 1 to dropdown menu in field 2 is the issue, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this. The dropdown menu's value list …

i notice that using the URL script the browser ( at least safari) requires the pop up prefs turned off. Since I'm only directing to another web page is there a way to not trigger the browser's objection.

If I script it as follows: Re-Login[] Set Variable ($err = Get(LastError) Show Custom Dialog ("Error = " & $err) As long as the user chooses the Guest button on the Re-Login dialog, it works fine, and Err= 0, and the account changes to [Guest]. In my WebDirect solution, I often do something like this for creating data in a non-related table. I'm curious if anyone knows which method is faster? Creating then closing a new (virtual) window: FreezeWindow New Window Go to layout XXX New Record Set field Set field Close Window Navigating layouts: FreezeWindow Go to layout XXX New Record Set field Set field Go to layout (original layout) The reason I prefer the New Window solution is that it doesn't affect the state of the current window. The second solution, by contrast, can affect things such as the layout mode, selected field or portal row, portal scroll position, etc.

I've done some research and have found that the Install Plug-in File script step will install plug-ins on the server via server side scripting. All the documentation I've seen states that it will install the plug-ins for the Scripting Engine part of server. I see nothing about the Web Engine part which supports plug-ins but the plug-ins are installed in a different location from the plug-ins for the Scripting Engine. Does anyone know if there is a way to install plug-ins for the Web Publishing Engine using Install Plug-In File script step or by some other means?
