Hi - I suspect there is a straightforward way to do this but I can't find it!! I am creating a solution to store then analyze some of my surgical workload. I have a table called "Operations" and this is related to another table called "Occupations" via a join table called "OccupationAtOperation". What I would like to do is have a field in the Operations table that is populated via a pop-up menu that is looked up from the relevant field in the Occupation table. I can create such a menu using a value-list, but I can't figure out how to add to the list without going to the Occupation table itself. Is such a thing possible? Hello , i am developing a sales system for a company , and they have 3 types of payment CHECK, CREDIT, CASH, they need to sum this at the end of the day, so what i want to do is to insert this values in a dropdown list, so if they choose CASH, to move the value of the total to the field CASH, or if they choose credit it moves the value of the total to the credit field. Hi folks, and thanks in advance! We're having trouble in 14 with our layouts, which mainly boils down to two issues: 1: Our dropdown/popup menus are way too small. They are always nearly half the size of the field font, which is not something we can easily remedy simply by doubling our field font size. Is there any way to change that? 2: Scrolling up and down glitches the layout terribly. Using the scroll bar buttons doesn't, actually, but clicking directly on the bar, or dragging on the bar, will almost invariably glitch the layout, creating lines and jumbling objects until we scroll back off and scroll back on with the buttons. So I am mocking up vertical navigation bar to the left and have a slide panel to the right ( kind of like a left tab panel ) So each button is static text & icon, and each button targets one script and passes a parameter, to go to the desired slide panel. I've got a database (see attached) that collects data in 2 tables, the parent "Survey" table which collects the date of the survey and the location of the shore platform (latitude & longitude). The platform is on the edge of a cliff where we look out for marine mammals and turtles and fix their position using a theodolite. These animal fixes are collected in a child table "contacts" with the species name and the latitude and longitude of the position. So here's a weird one. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it. Overview: I have a database for tracking plant inventory for a wholesale plant nursery. The size of the pots is measured as a gallon size and abbreviated in the system. So a 1 gallon pot is a G1, a 2 gallon pot is a G2, a 3 gallon is a G3, etc. I have two layouts for viewing the data in either a list or as a form to show more information. Pretty standard stuff. In my Web Viewer now, Google Maps has started saying it is the Lite version of Google Maps. There is a thunderbolt symbol that will let you open what they call the Full version, but it opens in Safari, not in the Web Browser. Previously, I could right-click on the map, choose What's Here from a popup menu and the result would display the GSP coordinates. That doesn't work in the Lite version any more, but it still does work in what Google is calling the Full version. I don't want to open the map in the browser, I want to stay in the Web Browser. Anyway to do that?

I'm attempting to use conditional object display to display a set of buttons for only the active portal row. However, so far I've run into a limitation that was present in FM12 when using a data separation model, namely {{ActivePortalRowNumber}} and {{RecordNumber}} do not calculate from the same context. For example, if I have a 3 portal rows and I click into the first portal row, I can easily see that {RecordNumber}} displays the correct number of the record in relation to the portal row on my interface file. But when I try to add conditional formatting using: Get ( ActivePortalRowNumber ) = Get ( RecordNumber ) The result returns false for everything other than…

Maybe this is a little OCD, but do you know of any way to remove the Embossed Border when looking at a web viewer in FileMaker? I'm running Windows XP (haven't taken a look on a Mac yet). I tried adding the following to my header, but I'm guessing this is a FileMaker thing, and not a page formatting thing: body {overflow:hidden}; body {margin:0;padding:0;} I do a lot with GUI and would like to more seamlessly integrate the web viewer into my layouts. Just an FYI - not sure I seen this posted before. In the past on Mac you could use the eyedropper to pickup the color of an object regardless if it is on the layout or off the side of the layout. With 14 and the new color picker that is x platform the color picker will also inherit the color of the object including the same percentage of screening that objects on the left of layout. (or what you see is what you get ) This tool is using probably standard OS level resources to pick colors vs FMP picking from the objects css, as does the format painter would. Hi Everyone, I am having an issue with conditional formatting on a portal. Currently, I am attempting to have portal text change color when a record exists on a specific date in a related table. My problem is that it is only working for one portal row and not for the others. I have observed that it is only changing the portal row that is the "first" record created in the related table. As soon as I delete this record, the formatting is "bumped" to the next record that was created. Any ideas how I could have the entire portal format correctly? Thank you!

Hi, I am having a weird glitch with the 'sample a color from the screen' tool. Whenever I use it to select a color it shows a close up of the pointer and only allows me to choose 414141, the colour of the pointer, as a selection? I have included an image to show what I mean. Any ideas? Thanks.

So for some reason, not all the records I want are showing up in a portal. I have a global ID (just the number 1) that I matched to all Client records (probably not the best way to do this as it's running really slowly), and then for each Client we have one or more Correspondence relationships. I am trying to show Correspondences on a Global layout, filtering based off of a boolean field in Correspondence. Hey everyone I've been experimenting with BusinessMan CRM and have noticed they have a lot of custom PHP(?) work running within web viewers. A couple examples are the email client, scheduler, and the document "explorer" (similar to Windows Explorer). A quick Google search didn't yield much in terms of how a developer could achieve these tricks... and have them interact with content stored within FMP. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I've got some strange behaviour on portals which are used to regularly display data from different years. Each record of data on the child table has a group number, a date, a year (derived from the date field) and a value and of course an FK_ID back to the parent. There are multiple records per group. In order to sum these up and use them for further maths and place them on the parent records, I summarise by group and then calculate a GetSummary, breaking by the year field. I'd appreciate any pointers with this... Essentially I have a working report layout setup with two sub-summary parts. These parts both have the same summary fields on them but the parts are setup to summarise when sorted by different sorts: one by contactArea, one by contactCategory. This works perfectly – when I sort by both contactArea and contactCategory at the same time, I get both overall Area totals and Category subtotals (there is also a Grand Summary part which provides overall totals, i.e. sum of all Areas). Hi There, I did a google search to learn more about displaying find results in a portal i.e. perform a find and only those resluts should be displayed within a portal and I found a couple of ideas. One was the concept of multi-key fields but I noticed the video was done with an older version of Filemaker. With FM 11, we have the ability to do a filter within a portal based on a calcualtion and I wonder whether there isn't an easier way now with FM11 to use this portal filter functionality to produce a portal with only the find results? Doing some particular actions in my DB will bring up a dialog box with an instruction or warning. Now I want to create such a box with one of the clickable buttons being programmed so it opens to a specific record, and always that specific record. Preferably this opens in a new window in the same DB. FYI the record will be in the same layout that is already open. I can however, not find how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been working with FM 13 and it has been a thorn in my side now for sometime that the old layout creation ability to have all fields added to a layout upon creation is gone now, or so at least I have discerned. I have not seen this mentioned anywhere - it's not listed in new features for 14 but I noticed that there is now a new popup Inspections > Text, right under the font. If I select Tacoma and then 'B' to bold it, this new popup changes to Negreta. If I unclick 'B' the popup changes back to plain. Many of the fonts have several variations listed, such as Arial. I wondered why it had been added. This 'font variation' popup works in tandem with the B, I, U icons so a guess ... I know some fonts COME already styled, such as Arial Bold. I don't know about you, but when I first saw the Button Bar demoed, I figured it was just a quick, handy way to add a group of individual, potentially but not necessarily related, buttons, and keep them conveniently grouped. Hello there, I am trying to have an image set as a background of the header of a record display layout, that image must change based on a field, that I got right, the problem is the image is not on the correct align with the container field border, it is always few pixels under like if there was an empty border limit where the image start displaying. I tried to mess around with the data formating settings on the inspector to crop, reduce or enlarge to fit etc, none removed the empty limiter there. I have an existing parent table called "Timesheet" and a child table called "Task". Data in the Timesheet table includes things like the employee's ID, the date of the work, the client, and the project. I have been playing around with Popovers the past couple weeks. I really, really want to get 14 running, if for no other reason than Popovers. Encountered some strange behavior in Portal Rows, but I haven't documented that yet. What I noticed most, though, was the ability to put Popovers on Popovers. Seemed a little too good to be true. I am looking into integrating the APIs provided by my courier service, Interlink, into Filemaker. To start at the beginning, is this actually possible? According to Interlink, their APIs will allow the tracking of the parcels we send within a client's website. This feature within Filemaker could prove invaluable within our database. I have a field configured with field validation - set to a maximum of 55 characters. I would like to display some visual feedback to the person entering data when they have exceeded this limit. Since the validation occurs after the field is exited, it's not very smooth throwing an error dialogue after they have typed beyond the limit. I am unable to provide visual feedback while they type. It would be helpful to display the text in black as the type while under the limit, and maybe display the overset portion in red text. Any techniques for this?

So, in my database I have already been able to Create a Crew list, for a project. However, Each Call for a project can have varying or even the same crew members. How do I set it so that i can create a Check list for crew from the pool of crew already assigned for a show? The crewxstaff contains all the crew, staff availability contains/tracks if a person is available, Crew code are their initials and each part (crew), call, Show have their own id. I'm displaying PDFs in a webviewer off of the server on my LAN without difficulty on OSX. Is there anyway to script the viewing formats? I'd like to be able to control the scroll, or at least the "autosize" feature or zoom in / zoom out. (my pet peeve: annoyingly a single page PDF will always default to scrolling to the bottom of the page) Any thoughts?

I have no idea where to put this question so I thought I would start here. If it should be somewhere else please advise. I have a database that relies on graphics similar to the attached file. In one particular container field I have 36 separate graphic representations that need to show up conditionally. I would like, if possible, to generate these the most efficient way possible with least amount of weight for optimizing i-pad, web-direct etc. Right now the images are produced in a CAD drawing and pasted as a bit-mapped image into the container field. When creating a new record via relationship in a portal, the empty row for the new record is always pushed to the end. Can we, in some way, put the empty row on the top so we don't need to scroll all the way down? I have placed a sliding panel on my users dashboard screen and I'm trying to get FM to remember what panel the user was on whenever they leave the dashboard layout. When the user returns to the dashboard they are presented with the panel they were originally viewing. My users are allowed to resize their windows as they like and the contents are set to resize as needed, however the layouts have been designed within the "smallest space necessary" to fit all the content (depending on the users screen resolution). I need to prevent the user from scaling the window too small (i.e. smaller than the initial set layout size) - is this possible with leaving the resize window option checked?

I am running into an issue of some records not sorting the same way. The user's UI has a portal viewing some related records; this portal is sorted by two fields. However, it doesn't appear that the 2nd field is having the correct sorting affect. This same table, when viewed in Table view with the same found set, and then sorted by these two fields, does appear to correctly sort. The relationship for the portal isn't itself sorted, so I can't seem to discern where the issue is. My problem seems simple enough but I can't seem to find the answer. I have tool tips attached to to Tab Panels,the problem is any where you run your cursor over in the tab panel shows the tool tip, I only want it to display when running the cursor over the label of the tab panel. Greets, all: I've been using a customized theme (based on the Electric theme) for over a year now and want to tweak the body part so the line dividing records (while in List view) is a different color. The problem is, I can't find the theme. I went the usual route: FileMaker app icon > Show Package Contents > Resources > Theme, but it's not there...and nor do I see it in the Resources folder, either. I use a list view layout to review records. When I want to make a change to a particular record I use a GO-TO-RELATED-RECORD step, make the changes, then return to list view.The active record is highlighted in blue on this list. I find the blue highlight distracting. It calls my attention to a record that at this time may or may not be important. Is there another way to highlight current record so by default nothing is selected until something is selected?

In Filemaker 8-13, if you direct a webviewer to a file or folder, you would set the webviewer to something like... "file:\\yourserver\somefolder\somefile.txt" In Filemaker 14, "file://///yourserver/somefolder/somefile.txt". In addition, If the path doesn't exist when the layout loads, you then create the path/file, filemaker fails to find/display it (even if you call reset,reload or set the URL.) Oddly, if you enter layout mode and then return to browse mode the webviewer does reload the contents.

I'm currently designing an iPhone client for a database with many thousand records. I'm looking for a possibility to only load 100 portal records at first, then allow the user to load more if desired. Apple is doing the same in their iOS Mail application for IMAP connections. At the bottom of the list there's a button which allows the user to "load more messages from server" (or similar). I think this could be very useful for mobile FM development in general. After many hours I sort of gave up... the portal in question is based on a join-table. See image attached. Any ideas and input most appreciated!!

Anyone seen this? My lovely styled fields for iPhone that certain perfectly served from FileMaker Pro 13 and accessed by FM Go 13, look great. But when I run them from my test FM Server 14 or from FMP 14 and access via FMP Go 14 on any size iPhones, the padding is wrong and hard to correct too. Anyone? We are writing up a fancy post at the filemaker.com forum and may have further information from that source which we will post here if not resolved by then.

I have a faint memory that Filemaker use to keep track of the window size when the file was running on a local machine and you closed that last window, that would be the size of the first window when you open the database again. This doesn't seem to be the case any more, I realize that I can script the first window that open but I am just check to see if what I remember was the case and might it still be possible.

Most horrible thing happened. I picked out icons and put them on my layouts and they are very cool. Then I close file and come back and they all say file not found. How can file not be found when I put them on my layout? I did not keep the files. What is happening please? I updated my OS few days back. Did it break the way png files are stored? You can also style a single segment button bar as a button that does nothing with a calculation for the label, then style it to match a field or text on the layout and use it for layout level calculations with out the need to add a calculation to the schema.

I know you all know what I am talking about ... it is when there are no records being displayed on a layout (whether in Form, List or Table view) and someone accidentally clicks onto the layout ... please see attached the ridiculous message they receive. It has not been a problem until more recently since I have begun to present Users with 0-found-count record layouts so as to eliminate needless fetch and network traffic. Employees are users of the system and log into the system with a limited privileges set to view and edit their own record, no other records. I'd like to hear folks' ideas about the best way to edit some related records in a script. I have a layout based in TableA, with 3 portals each showing related records from TableB. There's a simple relation TO from A to B via an ID from A. Each portal only shows one record, so I can view 3 records at a time. There are buttons that set a few fields between records, though, or copy from one record to another. E.g. a button to assign a name in Record2 to the same name as in Record1. Hi, I've got the attached script which takes the users account name and and then based on the relationshihps returns their staffID, DeptID and then a list of staff members in that dept. This code brings back all employees in that staff table related to that department, irrespective of whether they are Active or Leaver. Hi all I have a semi-working script to filter a portal in real time based on what the user begins to type to search within the portal. I've modified my filter calculation so many times I've ended up confusing myself. I have two filter requirements that need to work in conjunction with one another, regardless if the user is utilizing both filtering options. Hello there, I am trying to build a layout that have a tab control, in each tab control I have a variation of the same portal, each set to a different filter, lets say three tabs with a portal in each. The filtering works fine and all that but, on that layout to the right I am trying to setup an "expanded view of the record", so if in the portal I show only about the five main fields, on the right side of the layout I want to show many other fields from that record. Anyone have a good approach for creating "ghost text" on a layout? Example: User enters find mode and all of the field bodies have the field name in them until the user enters the field or adds text to the field. I need to figure out a way of adding this helper text to fields (mainly in Find mode but I can see other Browse mode uses for it as well) on layouts with limited space where field labels have been omitted. I have tried adding text over a field that has a conditional hide so that if Get ( ActiveFieldName ) reports that field the text hides. I made a file using the Invoices Starter Solution. I then added additional functionality to also do Purchase orderss. I we started using the solution. I made a clone of the solution so I could continue the UI Design phase and when it was ready I imported the records from the old solution. The problem is that when I imported the Company Dashboard, It seems to have created a phantom record that I can't delete. As you can see from the atached screenshots, the found records show 2 but in table view only one shows and all the buttons having to do with record keeping are greyed out and no Records button menu. I'm having an issue with a set of portals that I have created. We wanted a horizontal display of different related records, with tall vertical areas. We are showing up to 3 boxes of details across a single row, so to speak. The layout is based on "TableA". TableA is related to "TABLEA_portals", which is just a table-occurrence of TableA (it's a self join). The layout is based on TableA. The portals all use TABELA_portals relationship. Hello all, I have been trying to create a layout with a Portal interface that mimics a typical online shopping interface. I have created a layout that has a 9x9 grid of single row portals to display the possible buyer choices. Each single row portal has the initial row starting at the next incremental value (1,2,3,4 and so on). Hi I am designing a layout that displays different records and they will vary in how many lines are shown. The each section is separated by date as the factor for displaying each record. Under each date there maybe be just one field with several records or two or three fields with many records displaying with both. So if I just used a line to the left of each field block but the date section was higher on the left of the report it would leave a gap at the bottom. I thought maybe to make it so there is never any gaps I could use the line tool. But it is always at a fixed height. I am interested in rendering multiple virtual lists on the same layout at the same time. A couple methods have occurred to me, but the method that seems easiest to implement would be to simply use repeating fields for my Virtual List table, and making sure to reference the correct repetitions in the scripting and on the relevant portals. Seems like that way you could have as many virtual lists on a layout as you have repetitions for your fields. I feel like I've seen this described before, but I'm not able to come up with the correct key words to find what I'm looking for. We have a (v12) database for time entry and billing, and due to the huge number of records created, we've generally created "archive" files every 2 years or so. These are simply additional files, so that we don't have more than about 300k records in a single file - the system REALLY gets painfully slow around the two year mark. I have this script For some reason, it refuses to go to the next portal row and just copies the first portal row up to the count number of times. I would like for it to use commas after each crew info, instead of an enter, but when i tried various options, it keeps giving me error 101. Hi. I have a text field for entering the description of work being quoted for, almost every description will vary in size on each quote, all other fields aren't a problem, only this one because it needs user input on every quote, input that varies in text length. My problem is this, that when I add this text field as a 'merge field' to a letter, it doesn't automatically resize to fit the description for work to be done. I have two tables. Expense Items And products The tables are linked by Product Name. So in the expense table i have a product name and a cost for it. In the product table i have the product table and a portal that shows me every expense that was assigned to that cost. Sorry, new to FMP 9. I have a portal with multiple rows. I need a button/script that will copy a value from a field in portal row X, by clicking on a button IN THE SAME ROW. I guess the problem is that clicking the button in a specific row of a portal does not first select that specific portal row (related record) for the copy/set field whatever command. Thank you.
