SuperContainer by 360 Works

Discussions on how to implement and deploy SuperContainer by 360Works.

SuperContainer is a Java web servlet which allows you to upload, view, and download images and files from a web server. In conjunction with the FileMaker Web Viewer feature, it is an effective replacement for container fields in solutions which require users to read and store files associated with records in FileMaker. I'm looking for some clarification about setting up FileMaker Server 12 for CWP (PHP) when using SuperContainer. 360Works has noted that: "The FileMaker 12 Web Publishing Engine does not currently support plugins on 64-bit operating systems. To use plugins with Instant Web Publishing (IWP) or Custom Web Publishing, please ensure that the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine is installed on 32-bit operating systems." Does this mean that if I'm using SuperContainer with custom web publishing on FileMaker Server 12, I need to install on a 32-bit system? It sounds like this is the case, but I'm not sure if SuperContainer is considered a plugin in this context, given that…

Hey Everyone, I recently ran the Software Update on one of my clients FileMaker Servers, and ever since then it's been very unstable. First, I was having trouble with the java applet causing the web viewer to crash. I finally found out that it I needed to upgrade SuperContainer, fixing that problem. But that's not why I'm here. When I run SuperContianerServer.jar, it will run okay for several hours. Eventually, it will run out of memory, spitting out errors like this: SEVERE: An error occurred while handling request /SuperContainer/Files/images in thread http-8020-Processor28 java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space Dec 5, 2011 4:11:31 AM com.pr…

  3. Have just upgraded FMS on Windows Server 2022 Datacenter from FMS v20 to FMS v22. 6. I see documentation about the function "SCSetErrorCapture" http://static.360works.com/plugins/SuperContainer/plugin-documentation.html#SCSetErrorCapture but that is the "SuperContainer Companion Plugin 2.9515 User Guide", and I have Version 3.03 (7/18/2023) running now. 9. Hello everybody, We have been using SuperContainer for years - with good results - but I am hitting a roadblock now and was wondering if some of you could chime in with best practice suggestions as to how to time limit access to certain SuperContainer paths. Security for SuperContainer is nested within the folder path - know the path, get access. I know all the arguments for and against, but it has been accepted practice to handle access that way, the theory being that a long folder path essentially equals a username/password combination. There is one big drawback, though: A username/password can be revoked, or a password changed. …

rHi, We've been using SC for years and have never before encountered this issue. On one workstation, a 2015 27" iMac, our served solution which has ~25K products, refuses to retain a new image of the product, despite being present in the Server folder for all other product images, each residing within their parent folder of the same name. Other workstations don't exhibit this behaviour. All are running FMP v18.0.3 under Mac OS Mohave or MacOS Catalina. Earlier today I deleted that Product record and imported the data back from yesterday's backup. I then opened the Data Viewer and watched the content of the webviewer. On that occasion the new image was retai…

Now we're looking to move SC to a virtualised environment. I'd like to know what others are carrying out here and if there is a optimal setup: Options available to us: Host SC on Windows VM on our on-premise virtualised infrastructure. But I believe if we do this, we'll loose functionality around displaying thumbnails of pdfs and .ai's - something we rely heavily on, unless anyone is aware of a workaround here? Look at using SC in the Cloud on a dedicated OS X server (needing at leas…

  17. Hey, I am having some issues with an implementation of SuperContainer. Things had been working okay though they recently stopped working. Our FileMaker developer says that there is an issue with the installation of our SuperContainer server although I haven't touched anything since it had been installed and was working without any issues. Overall, I'm unsure if the plugin is having issues within FileMaker Server, or if it is the SuperContainer server which is having issues. Yesterday I replied to an old thread - to be sure and make it clear, I'm just adding a new one here. What we're seeing on our Mac clients (and have been for 2+ years now) is: the web server (a Mac-based system) portion of our multi-machine configuration (DB server is Windows) has its security certificates in place. This means that when users access the web direct homepage, they're redirected to HTTPS. That works fine. However, Safari automatically creates an HSTS profile for that web server. That HSTS profile then automatically redirects any web traffic on that client to HTTPS. So if those same users have to interact with a SuperContainer web viewer, the web vi…

  23. Hi, Last week I was consulting with a reputable Claris Partner who warned me that the 29 thousand images (each one in their own parent folder) could be at risk of corruption if we exceeded the number allowed in our Products folder, stored within the path that leads back to the Shared/SuperContainer Directory. I was surprised as we'd always believed that Jesse's rationale for the SuperContainer architecture was based upon the premise that there was "no limit" to the number of folders that could be stored within a parent folder but there could be limit to the number of files stored within a single folder. Is that premise still true? Meantime, we've mitigated …

They only occupy about 7 GB of space but I'd like to keep plenty of space free for additional DBs. Backups are moved to an external HD. As there are now external SSD's that will connect via ThunderBolt 3, with exceptional R/W speeds of up to 2800 Mb/s, I'm wondering if this is an option for offloading those SuperContainer files. Following up on a post I had submitted a while ago. This issue has been occurring much more frequently for my client. I've figured out that for any JPG over ~5MB they upload via the companion plugin, the file ends up in a locked state and cannot be deleted. The message I receive when I attempt to delete the file directly from the file system on the server is that the file is in use by java.exe. If you upload another JPG over 5MB, the first file is no longer locked and the newly uploaded file is locked and cannot be deleted. In order to delete the file, I have to stop all java processes on the server. Any thoughts on what the issue is given this inf…

  34. Hello all - I have been struggling with this one file a directory limitation. It has served us well over the past 7 years, but at the client's expense. They need to upload one file at a time. We are now fiddling with a Dropzone into a file.io temp container. The idea is to allow multi file upload through file.io, and then use the ephemeral file.io download link to populate the respective SuperContainer directories. Since I upgraded to macOS Catalina (I know, I know...), the web viewer does not handle changes to the Supercontainer contents well. For instance, when I hit the delete button, the SuperContainer deletes the contents, but the web viewer will still show the old word document. 48. We recently upgraded our server from a MAC solution to a PC solution and we lost the ability to view our pdf files hosted on this server via our FileMaker solution. Instead, we just see an Adobe PDF icon. Our assumption is that this is related to our Mac server generating our previews and the PC not generating that preview. The display does work fine for jpg's and some other files hosted on the server, which is why I think it's related to how the PC server is rendering, or lack thereof, a PDF preview.

Is there a way to set up the SC app server to *not* serve documents via URL except when accessed through a Filemaker app? This would be a same server setup.

  61. Started by dataclip,

I use supercontainer for a customer module. A customer can log on through a webdirect connection to view their info in our CRM system. Part of the solution is that they can view PDF documents, for example invoices. I use supercontainer to give them acces to these documents. Customers can only view their documents, so I use style=readonly on all documents. This works well, except when I have a document that has # in the name, for example ipadres\#drsstuk.pdf?style=readonly still shows the delete button in the webviewer. Is this a known bug or is the hashtag a character that is not allowed?

I'm running into an issue where the SuperContainer Companion plugin seems to no longer work on a specific image. The image preview displays fine but no plugin functions seem to do anything (and no errors reported by the plugin). When I investigated on the server and tried to delete the problematic image from the SuperContainer directory, Windows displayed an error message saying that the file was in use by java.exe and could not be deleted. To resolve the issue I have to kill Java processes on the server and restart the server to get SuperContainer working again. This has happened twice in the past week and according to users, they hadn't manipulated the file in any w…

Does SC have the ability to drag-n-drop OUT of the container to another Windows application (such as Outlook)? If not, does anyone know of a plugin that adds that ability to FM running on Windows 10?

  64. Hi, new to supercontainer. I have a dataset with over a 100,000 images in a Filemaker container (v16 on FMServer). I am trying to find a method that allows an individual to download images from a found set all at once. I've been able to get a script working within Webdirect but it seems to require selecting a button to download images one at a time which is not convenient to say the least if you have 100 or so in a found set. Does supercontainer allow this sort of download? Thanks.

SOLUTION: Hit 'OK, FM quits... they retry. Please advise, Peter Lehrack Reliable Permit Solutions, LLC

  66. Hello, Since upgrading one of my clients to FileMaker 16 (on Windows 10) and SuperContainer 2.9504, they've been having this problem where FileMaker sometimes won't launch if the SuperContainer Companion Plug-in is in the Extensions folder. In Task Manager, FileMaker appears as a background process, but never finishes opening. Removing the plug-in, launching FileMaker, quitting FileMaker, then putting the plug-in back fixes the problem--for a while. SuperContainer Companion is the only plug-in that they use. I've seen this problem mentioned in the FileMaker forums, but here it seems to be caused by the plug-in. Any ideas how to solve this? Thank…

  67. I'm running into a problem with the SuperContainer Companion plug-in where, when I call the SCChooseFile function, the Select File window ends up behind the FileMaker application window. This was initially reported to me by users accessing a FileMaker published application over Citrix. Because these users don't have access to the desktop or other applications, they get stuck when the window is hidden and the Citrix session has to be forcefully closed. I recently had the same problem in a different system with users running FileMaker Pro on Windows. One user discovered that she could use Alt+Tab to flip through different windows to bring it to the front. This use…

  68. We've got SuperContainer running on FMS 14 and have run into a weird problem. We're storing mostly pdfs, but also some jpgs and pngs. For the jpgs and pngs, we've been experiencing an occasional oddity that I finally tracked down. These are image files that, for the most part, users take photos with their phones then upload via CWP. Image sizes range from 500 KB to 2 MB. The issue arose because we resize the image files and convert them to pdf, eventually collating them into a single multi-page pdf that needs to be email-able. Sometimes the resize would fail, giving the full image. The same files always failed. We were resizing using height and width tags and tr…

  69. Started by David Jondreau,

I'm seeing weird results using SCGetContainer() and I think it has to do with image orientation. I'm working with jpgs and it appears when an image is rotated. If GetContainerAttribute() "orientation" is applied to a file and the result is "6 (Rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise), not applied" then when I access that file using SCGetContainer() any width and height constraints are not applied. It will always return the full file. I have not tested it with other orientations. This is on FMPA 16.02 using SC plugin 2.9504. Any ideas? Have you seen this before?

Any idea? Thanks. P.S.: I will send an email to 360works. But just want to post it here so we can all share the solution. Thanks.

I've got a couple SC licenses running on different servers. I've got one database and I want to store files on both servers. (why? well, I'm migrating from one server to another, but it's go to be done over a couple months due to bandwidth limitations). I'm storing each image's filepath as a record in a standalone table. That full filepath will be different depending on the host for that file. When calling any of the plugin functions by script, I believe got to also call SCSetBaseURL, right? That base host is either taken from the record (if downloading) or given based on business logic (if uploading). I want a calculated FM Container field using SCGetContainer(). …

Is there a good way to rename files? And did the behavior of SCMove() change recently. A few months ago, I was testing using SCMove() to rename a file SCMove by using the same filepath for the old and new paths, but adding a filename parameter SCMove ( filepath ; filepath ; new.filename ). I thought I had it working ok. I let the project sit for a couple months and just came back to it and now it's not working. I'm second guessing myself that I ever had it working in the first place. But it looks like SCMove() may have changed, now accepting key/value pairs rather than just a filename. I've tried it both the old way and with filename= and neither works. My …

  87. Hi, We're wanting to load multiple images for each product onto a product's web page. Our web designer has made provision for this by adding a field in the product_images table for the display_order, eg 1, 2, 3 etc. I thought it would be convenient for us if we held those additional jpg images in the same folder as the first image which is already there. We'd use distinguishing suffix to the product code that also matches their display order. Will this have any unintended consequences for the SC server?? Thanks, John Wolff (Hamilton, NZ)

I figured I'd be able to do this either by calling scMove or scCopy and specifying a new filename parameter while leaving the filePath the same, but unfortunately I've had no luck so far. Is there an easier way to rename an uploaded file or am I going to need to go down the road of 'download file -> remove file from server -> re-upload file with new file name to old folder path'?
