I have a portal that shows records from another table in a layout that I wish to generate a sub-summary report. When I switch to Preview to generate the report the portal starts displaying the results for only 1 record instead of all the records as it originally was. Is there any way around this? Thanks, jim

The idea is: - A tab panel with two tabs - A condition field (yes-no) The second one can only be accesible by choosing "yes" in the condition field. Is not a hide-unhide tab tread, I want it viewable but unaccesible, through mouse click, tab or whatever procedure. Is that possible? Thanks.

The system that I am working on has a production screen that will show the status of jobs in multiple portals for each phase of production, with each portal representing a production phase. There are several dozen production phases so there will need to be a large number of portals. To save some screen real estate the left side of the relationship is a global so that operators can input a specific phase to view in that portal, with each portal having its own global and each portal filtering by data in that global. To add a new BookingCategory I give the user "pop-up" (new window), displaying a portal with all available categories (from table Categories), this has filters for various sub categories and enables a selection to be added to the main record (each main record could have between 5 and 10 categories). Hi, I have a database of client profiles. To make data entry easy, I used a value list and check boxes for one of the fields, "School". The values include: Sch of Med, Sch of Dentistry, Sch of Engineering, etc. It is possible that some clients have multiple school affiliations. What I would like is to be able to split the field into separate records, the same way you can split repeating fields into multiple records when you import them. Hi, I'm trying to filter portal so I\ve created one field gFilter where I'm defining values to filter out. Than I created relation between gFilter with not equal connection to one of the portal values. Everything works fine except I cannot create new portal record via this relationship. We've seen it all the time on websites... In a untouched field it gives some sample data grayed out to let you know what format to enter your information. Once you click in the field it disappears never to show again, even if you don't enter information. Is there a way to do this in Filemaker?

I have a portal window in my application. One of the fields among the records (rows) in the portal is a service cost field from my Service table. Outside of the portal on the same layout is a Total Service Cost field (Summary field based on Total of "Service Cost"). When I delete a row I have to go to another record and back again before my Total Service Cost field displays the updated totals. How can I see the updates as they happen without going to anther record? thanks again.

Dear friends, You all please help me in Working with Radio buttons. Whenever I use radio buttons, multiple selections are possible just by pressing the Shift+click. So I don't want the Multiple Selections should be possible using Shift key. So, you all are requested to help me as soon as possible. For example, whenever I use radio buttons in case of Gender using Male & Female, I am able to select both of the options. But I don't want this. I need only one selection after pressing the Shift key also.

I'm having a royal brain hernia trying to get a count of the ATT Dates used in a report. Please refer to the attached file. Go to the Attendance xStudent layout, sort it, then go to Preview mode. You'll see the results in the attached screen shot. Here's where I'm stuck: How can I get a count of Att Dates? There's eight of them and I want to put that count somewhere on-screen. We have PDF files located in Filemaker_Server_11\Data\Documents\WorkOrders. I need for outside and remote Users to view, open, print these files. If I physically upload the file to a SuperContainer Web Viewer all of that can be accomplished. All, I want to create rental forms for our property management business. I have about 30 properties so I would want a data base that will identify the property and put the address and specifics on the rental form and other forms, use in rentup and vacating. Then I would want to pull the tenant from a different data base so his information would be automatically shown on all the forms. Hello everyone, this is my first post here Anyway, here's my issue: in my company we had FileMaker 4.0 for ages (for cataloging purposes, quite important part of our business) and recently we decided to switch to FM11 (got only 2 licences so far). Suprisingly enough, importing that ancient database from FM 4 to FM 11 went rather smooth, except for a minor (but for us crucial font issue). As it is, we have our own company font for years, which we use for printing out labels and stuff and its important that we keep it. I have a several layouts which display a number field which is an auto entered serial number. When I made an invoice layout, I included this same field, and it correctly displays the number. But when I hit "PREVIEW" to look at how it will appear when printed, no numbers show up in the field. This only happens when in PREVIEW. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks so much Tom

Details: I keep a database of my music students. In a portal on my main layout (sorted by date descending), I record our activities each week. This is a problem I've never personally had before, but I would guess that other developers have… I have a report that includes an Instructions field, and the contents ranges from nothing, to a couple words, to several sentences long. How can I indicate that there is more text than is being displayed in the field? I've thought of calculating the number of characters of each field, then make a calculated field that ends with those characters and an ellipsis if it exceeds what I decide is a good number, but unless I use a monospaced type, that ellipsis is not going to be in a reliable place. Anyone come up with a clever way to deal with this?

hi, I have a field that during data entry I would like to autocomplete based on a value list. The value list is a list with multiple words. It is the "Chief complaint", in a medical history. So the typical entry might be "patient here for f/u of cataracts", or "px here for f/u of cancer". I would like it to autocomplete when typing ANY word. For instance, if I start typing "ca.." only values with words containing those would appear in the drop down (or pop up), even if "ca" appears in the second or third word. right now, you have to type the whole phrase "px here for..." and there is a bunch of entries that start like that. any ideas? thanks in adva…

Hello to all Please excuse me if I have logged this question in the wrong forum. If I have, please advise. I have a table Called Art. Among Art's numerous fields is a field called Pic. Pic stores the filename of the picture file. The picture files are stored in C:\Artpics\ I know FM can store image files within itself, but in this case I can't go that way. Another person needs access to the picture files in a different way so this is the solution we came up with. Is there a way to include the image file in my reports by using the field Pic and knowing the location path of the directory? Any suggestions? John

Hello, I gonna need help again for the following. I turned it around several times, but cannot find a correct result. I have two files, one helicopter database, and one registration database linked by a helicopter ID. Hi~ I am looking to see if there is a way, I am assuming using a script trigger, to have the color of a Tab change based on a radio button selection? For example the Tabs would be "Print" , "Ad", and "Digital". If a person selected "Print" from a radio button in a field outside the Tab area, it would make the "Print" Tab color turn Red and the text inside white. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm a subscriber to FilemakerMagazine.com and am using a web viewer to browse articles and pull titles and summaries to build an index of those I want to save. This all works well. There are usually links to download both a technique file and a movie file, and I can activate the links through the web viewer. When so doing, however, the movie files download and open OK, but not so the technique zip files. They download, but I get this error when trying to open them: "Cannot open file: It does not appear to be a valid archive." I'm not sure if this is best handled by a portal, or other means, but I'll describe what I have and want to do... I have a one to many relationship between two tables. The "many" relationship is a list of options... so to be really simple we'll say I have 3 related records giving different color options... Red. Blue Yellow Now, instead of having them listed in three different portal rows, I would like them concatenated to read: "Red OR Blue OR Yellow" These color options are really simplified, for the example, they could be full sentences. In MySQL, the equivalent would be GROUP_CONCAT... Any advice would be appreciated Thanks!

Hello. I'm new to Filemaker and am using version 9. A quick question: Is it possible to change the background color of a form? I figured out how to change the field box colors. I also created check boxes, radio buttons, and a drop down menu, and figured out how to change their colors. Is this possible? I went into Layout Setup and looked around, and saw there are various layout designs with various colors, but I just want the body to be light yellow, without having to create a new layout. FM 11 ADV OSX My portal has the fields: DATE -----PAIDYEAR-----DONATION----DUES-------ASSESSMENT When a user enters the date, my system automatically puts the associated Dues and Assessment according to their membership type: (ie Life, Yearly etc) No problem here, this works. And, I can do an ONEXIT or ONSAVE script on the PAIDYEAR field to get the table to 'resort'. This works. I used the FM "Music Library" template to start out but my catalog is song based and not album/disc based so I had to do some editing, i.e. "Album Name" is now "Song Name." I am using FM 11 03 So, I am developing this kind of complicated application and for no reason, FM 11 starts acting like FM 10. Specifically, I create a table. I related it. I drag a portal under the appropriate TAB and.... The fields do not show outside of edit mode. So, I copy and paste the fields. No way. So, I drag the fields to the desk top and drag back. Nope. I delete the portal, create a new one, specify the fields and can SEE them in edit... no show in browse. THEY ARE ALL WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE TOP PORTAL ROW... NO SHOW IN BROWSE !!!! I have a need to look at all the text values in the related records, add them all together and then parse out the duplicate values. It's been a while since I've worked with custom menus and I can't recall (or find) the way to add the Unformat Text entry to the user's right-click menu in a runtime application. I have it in the Edit Menu on the Top Menu Bar (File ... Edit ... View ... ) and it works. But it would be so much more convenient as a right-click option. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there ! I've created a long time ago a database for our client's list, Service Calls and Route Planning. The Client List and the Service Calls are related by the phone number of the client. So when we create a new service call, there's a script that copy/paste the phone number from the list to the service call. Hello to all I hope someone has a possible solution to my problem. I have a Report called Contact List. It shows contact information for all the people I have in my table. The use can use various finds to cull the list of contacts. So I'll cull my list and then print it. Days later I'll forget who makes up the content of my list. Sometimes it's easy; oh they are all from the same city. Sometimes it's not to easy to tell as I have many different fields that I can do "finds" by. Hi, After doing alot of research and testing I discovered that you can view a pdf in a web viewer, taking as the source a pdf stored in a container field. The way to do this is by exporting the pdf in the container field to a temporary location using the function Get(TemporaryPath), and then pointing the web viewer to that location. I have tested this by adding a file to a folder in my desktop and pointing the web viewer to this location and file. This works perfectly and you can view the pdf in the web viewer. Hello, I'll do my best to explain my situation. I have a table of records that represent defects based on each job number. So for each job number I could have 5 records linked to that job number describing each defect and the quantity of each one. In order to do defect rates based on job number I have a field called job_qty that looks up the quantity for that job number from the job table. The problem is that when I go to do a summary that gives the total job_qty the value is incorrect because it adds up each one of the 5 entries as a different value instead of combining them into the same job quantity. This is a throw back from converting a system from Access, it's quite a large database and although I'm keen to stick with relations using numeric IDs between most tables, but I feel it will confuse some users if some of these IDs are displayed on screen for many smaller / linked tables. Hiding in Access is trivial using a combo box, as is dynamically changing the combobox rowsource at any given time, but not in FileMaker, not that I can see. In fairness, you can hide IDs value list pop-up menus but not pop-up lists, as some of the lists will contain many items, lists, not menus are required. This is a strange one. I have a client who when they click into a field the data looks like it disappears...when you come out of the field the data reappears......this also happens in find mode, when you click into a field and start typing the search criteria you cannot see the text entered until you exit the field. There is no script trigger or conditional formatting on the field. It happens to any field on the screen. Client is using FMP 11 on an XP service pack 3 machine. It looks like it only happens on this machine as when testing from another machine there is no problem....does anyone know what is happening here

Greetings all; I have phone numbers stored into the database, however some of them are formatted as (01) 2345 6789 and others are 01 2345 6789. If my grammar in the title is anything like my calc syntax I'm in BIG trouble. Please refer to the attachment. The plan is to let users, using FMP 9.x, enter then select their search criteria for use in a report; the Custom VL List for all three text fields (named Sort_Choice1, Sort_Choice2, and Sort_Choice3) contains the same labels as what you see on-screen: Date Range, School, Grade, Period, Teacher, Student, and Attendance Code. We have a Filemaker database. It's basically a registration database for kids sports. Some people send in their registrations and that is entered manually in the filemaker database. Works great. Recently the website was changed so people could sign up their children via the web & pay through paypal, All the same information is entered that is entered in the filemaker database. Hi all I have created a layout which is solely displayed as a list. The layout has been designed co create a faux table (for info, the table headers/titles sit within a 'Leading Grand Summary' part). Is there a method to resize a field object dynamicaly, so that the object size is greater than the width that is necessary to display the full field content? I'm a Filemaker novice, but have done quite a lot with MySQL, so the concepts aren't new, just the ways to do them I have a filemaker table of categories it has two simple fields. I have several Portals set up to record specific Product pieces of data. All the portals are unique to each record except the first one. Portal 1. Product Name: Notes/Data sheets/Documents Portal 2. Hi there, i am trying to figure this out...i almost get it, but not quite. I have supplied a file along with this. What I am trying to do is when I enter a new record via the Control sheets, I want to see the list of products show up in the portal. We use the same products for the most part...on some days the products change by 2 or three different ones. As well by the session. All, Is there a way to preset a font and size so that no matter what font is entered into a field it comes out the same. Hi All, I want to be able to get the number of portal rows in a record (essentially count the number of records in the related table for one given record). My setup is as follows. I have a layout pulling records from a table called patients, with the patient's details. There is a portal in this layout, pulling data from a related record called visits, which holds the patient's visits so far. I want to be able to put a count of the number of visits on the layout. I tried various things, but I get the total number of records in the visits table, not the ones related to the particular patient Any help would be appreciated. George

I cannot think of a solution to this problem. I have some related records in a portal. I want for example to get all the suppliers names form a column and make them into a single text field to display in a merge field on another layout. The client is all PC based. Their FM File is hosted at FMGateway. We need a web viewer so PDFs can be viewed. Client has PDF files on a local server. FMGateway stated: "The PDF files need to be uploaded through FTP to the users account. You can then access it through a special subdomain (not 31.fmgateway.com, that's just the FileMaker Server). I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to test FM11's portal filtering with large databases that are hosted FM server. I have a solution that has 500k+ songs that are categorized. I've used portal filtering in previous versions using plugins and as well as not. I've used keywords as well as song title and lyric to filter on. Before I adopt FM11's portal filtering, I wanted to gauge my expectations. Would love to hear about anyone else's experience. Thanks! Michael

Hi I have Filemaker pro 10 running on a small Mac network. For some reason recently when we open the file from some machines, the opening window is most of the way off the screen and there is no status bar. This can be dealt with each time by tiling the window and manually resizing it and showing the status bar, but the next time the file is opened it does the same thing. Dear friends, I just very new in File Maker. Recently, i created a database contains bio data of students in our schools. It was around 6000 entry/student in the records. NOw, i got desperate when i need to count how many such as: male/female students, students with theirs tribes, and religion. I have a sub summary with three fields; sumqty, serial_qty, and reject_percent. sumqty is a summary field which is a total of the "qty" field. serial_qty is a calculation field that basically looks up a value from another table. reject_percent is a calculation field that = ( sumqty / serial_qty )* 100 In the report, the sumqty and serial_qty are correct and change according to how the report is sorted. Hello! I think I missed something. It should be simple. I've got 2 tables that are related. In the 1-st table -- Items, in the 2-nd one -- Parameters of Item with Amounts and DatesOfChange. I placed a portal into list-view layout to show Items with related Parameters (Amount) and filtered the portal by the Parameter's latest date of change. I have a field, set as date & indexed. In the layout it has the dropdown calendar for selection. The user wants to key in a date as well as use the calendar. It is acting like autofill is selected for this field, but that is not an option. For instance, we want to enter 2/15/2011. You can enter the 2/1, but it autofills to 2/1/2011. It will not allow for the second digit entry. Is there a way to correct this, to allow both dropdown calendar and type in values? thanks,

Date field that user set's with drop down calender. For the new year the client has asked for me to clear previous entries in this field. But when the user went to create a value filemaker some how remembered the previous entry (if there was one). Being that all entry's were from last year going through the extra clicks to set a new date is not necessary. To clear the records I did replace field contents with "" Perhaps that was not the proper way to clear the previous records. Anyhelp with this glitch would be great.

We need to allow an operator to change the order in which related records appear in a portal. My thought is to have a 'Sort' field which would just be a number field and the portal would be set to sort to that field. Then we would have Up/Down buttons on each portal row which would trigger a script that would move the record up or down in the sort order by adjusting the number in sort field. I currently have a solution to track my employees' performance based on actual and theoretical data. I have created several report layouts using sub-summary parts and summary fields to create reports of the employee's summarized performance over a set timeframe. To accomplish this, I'm using the "getsummary()" function of actual and theoretical data and sub-summary parts to sort by employee name. Everything works like a charm. Basically what I want to do is a name based auto-complete edit-box (or something similar) that allows users to start typing in a name and of course suggest the correct name (the list of names can/should be pulled from the existing contacts table). When the user confirms the name I want the ID associated with that name to be put into the foreign key field (not displayed on the layout). I've got a layout which consists of a set of buttons. Each button will create a new record in the table and switch to a layout appropriate for that button. The script that opens the layout turns user abort off, hides and locks the status area, then executes a pause script indefinitely step waiting for the user to do something. Ok I have a summary report that groups a bunch of records in various sizes and have a summary count field to let me know how many records are in each grouping. Is there a way to set conditional formatting when I breach a total number of records ceiling, but only format the group at which the breach occurred? So right now I have a field that shows a "running total" and I can set the conditional format to trip for all the records after a record number ceiling has been breached, but what I want to do is only highlight the group where the ceiling was passed not all groups after. Any Ideas?

I've searched and can't find the answer to this. I upgraded to FM 11.0v2 and now, it seems, I'm seeing my file sort whether I want it to or not. When I create a new record and then hit the button to view the previous record, I find my total database being sorted. I can then go back and back and back and it doesn't sort (I think that's right). But, I find this annoying sort, that always takes longer than I want to wait, going on after making a new record. . .at the end of the stack . . . not in the middle or elsewhere. I've checked all my preferences and I've checked all my scripts and I can't find any sort other than what I've specified for a script (and that sort on…

I'm using a portal to show images and prices of items that appear on a web page. Currently, one row per record, that scrolls endlessly. 1 2 3... I would like to show 4 items on each portal row, to approximate the layout on the web page, and be able to edit specific fields from the record being shown. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12... How can I set the portal to show an item + the next three items, and then skip to the 5th record for the next row? Hi All, I have a layout that holds 2 portal, which are both based on the same table. The portal on the left holds one record (actually a note for a staff member) and the portal on the right shows a list of the notes with a description and the author of the note along with created and modified date.
