FileMaker Server Legacy Discussions

Discussions of Legacy versions of FileMaker Server

  1. 26 years ago I created a database for my own purpose. I can't remember my password. This was my diary back when I was 15 years old. I was unable to open the file, but using Text Edit from Mac OS 10.15, I had the ability to see some of the text I wrote back then. 9/20/1998 seems to be the last time I opened the file. 10.15 with Text Edit - I see some content (text parts) What are my options here? Who can help here? Thank you for your support.

Back in 2001 I added FM 5.5 to help our business manage daily tasks, and still used today. My problem is we are changing from Windows server 2012 to server 2019 and still want to use our old filemaker for cross reference but cannot remember how to set up FM server to locally host the FP5 data base files. Hoping that there is someone out there who's memory is better than mine Jim

I have a client who purchased a canned non-FM solution and has grown tired of it. Prior to them moving to this, they had a FM Server 5.5 solution that has been backed up, and we have the original 5.5v1 installation disc etc. However, the Database Server will not start up and stay up. I know this is a known error, and I am in place to begin migrating it to FMP Server 12 (re-building the solution). But in the meantime to get the old layouts etc, I would like to SEE the old solution running and running properly so I have reference. Now before you say, use Filemaker 6 or something else, there are 68 total Databases, and FMP has a 50 file limit, thus I require the se…

Hi, there, I know that Microsoft recommends running the DC of a domain in a dedicated machine, and filemaker surely also would best placed on a dedicated host. Still, is it possible to run FM 16 (and the following releases) on a VM running the DC role? Performance is not an issue (it's a small environment), but the cost of an extra server license is. Thanks for helping me out here

  5. Anyone able to provide the installer for FileMaker 5.5v2 Server for linux? It's an RPM, in case you have it it's not on an original CD. I have the CD with 5.5 Server, but would really like to have the 5.5v2 or 5.5r2, I do not remember the exact phrasing. I already have 5.5v2 preinstalled, I'm not able to find the installer itself, and I would like to move to a newer environment.

  6. My company acquired a practice using filemaker pro v6 for record keeping. Although we will not be maintaining this - they need to maintain access. I had some general questions and needed assistance with some issues, being a filemaker noob. Here are spec's as far as I can tell - when I open FMP - it says 6.0v4, - when you go to open a database file, it's appended with .fp5. Looking closer this is clearly a 5.5 server. When I go to open the Filemaker Server Console, the title says Filemaker Server Console for Windows 2000 and reads MMC could not create the snap-in and it does not load. This is target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe "C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Serv…

We've had an XP machine running FM server beautifully for years. We want to upgrade our databases to FP7 (Server 11 and clients) from a cost and functionality standpoint (I know it's still behind the times, but our current system still works well). The machine that we use is a Windows 7 machine downgraded to windows XP (out of the box). I decided it was time to update the system to Windows 7 so I could start working on upgrading our databases at night (and possibly take advantage of Win10 free upgrade if need be). Took all night to upgrade to 7 32bit Professional. I installed server 5.5 on the new Win7 install and it seemed to take ok. I had to disable the security notif…

We have disabled VMQs and also Isolated the FileMaker server Virtual machine onto one network adapter. We are now experiencing terrible latency within Database performance. I've tried to rebuild the server and also running Recovery on a few of the Database files, nothing seems to help. Any performance issues recommendations? FileMaker pro is running on Server 2003. 14. I've written an .NET client using ODBC to connect to a fp5 on a remote FM 5.5 server. After opening FM 6 on the same PC as the .NET client and opening the fp5 remotely, the first action by the .NET client application (whether it be an INSERT or UPDATE) seems to take a very long time (3-4 minutes) before returning an ODBC exception - HY000-Unknown error. The .NET client catches the exception and displays a message box to the user. The user clicks OK and if there are more records in the batch to process it continues with no further errorrs. The outcome for the first record attempted is not certain...sometimes the record is inserted/updated successfully (after a long…

Thankfully we had a 4 hour old backup to rollback to. We're up and running now but the boss told me to get something new and something that isn't a ticking bomb. At the moment we're stuck with 5.5 server, I know it's old and we're looking into what we can do about it, but that's still quite some time away and I'd like to replace the hardware a.s.a.p. 24. Hi, I'm using a script to process records submitted via a php Web form -- it sends a receipt to the submitter and sends a report to certain recipients outside the organization. The script starts on the last record and moves backward until it runs out of unprocessed records. Since I'd like the emails to be as instant as possible, I've set up a server script to execute it once per minute, all day long. I don't feel great about this solution though. Ok, heres the drum: I bought a series of FM Pro files for managing our business back in 1995, running on Mac OS. Classic at first, version 3.0. At first, we ran the files with FM Pro 3.0 running Mac OS9. Worked great. As the business grew after several years, we decided to add more terminals and run it from a server. So we installed FM Server 3.0, and then bought the upgrade FM 5.5 Server to upgrade it to the newest version. So at that time, (2004) we were running FM 5.5 Server and several FM 5.5 or FM 6.0 workstations. Sold that business to start over again. 27. We’re having problems with the Server Admin Console and WPE, described below in a memo from our server people. This server hosts a dozen databases that are in use 24-hours a day, so we’d really like to know what we’re doing before we shut it down or do other maintenance steps to end the flaky behavior of the Admin Console and the hourly WPE error messages we’ve been getting. There was a server incident that apparently started the WPE warning and error messages: a backup script malfunctioned and filled the hard drive with extra copies of various files, leading to the Warning 86 disk full error from FileMaker Server. However, when searching against this field, it works properly when local, and does not work when hosted; as a matter of fact searching against the server version will only succeed if you search for nulls. 30. Hi I'm running FileMaker Server 11 on OS X. I have a Windows app that updates one of the files via ODBC. If this app dies or loses network connectivity etc., the connection still shows up in the FMS Admin Console. Restarting the app just causes another connection to show up in the Admin Console. It does not appear to be possible to get rid of these phantom connections. The same happens if I write a Python script that connects to the file via ODBC. I can login to the server OK using the admin client, but when I go to the clients, database or schedule list, I get the following error: Admin Server Connection Error: An unknown error has occurred. I know FMS(A)9 is not officially supported on 10.6, but I was hoping the admin client would at least continue to run properly. I have cleared my java cache, tried forcing to 32 bit mode, etc. and no luck. Please …

  54. Hi everyone - Our organization asked me to upgrade their Filemaker Server 8 Advanced system. I began developing custom Web pages on our domain that used the XML data to update our members' profiles online and to pass those updates to Filemaker. My question is this: We will be upgrading to Filemaker Server 11 and I just assumed we would need to purchase the Advanced version of Filemaker Server (FMSA) 11 - but now, after having done some research, that doesn't appear to be necessary. Since I'm only interested in Custom Web Publishing (CWP) and NOT Instant Web Publishing (IWP) I believe that we don't need the Advanced version - and that saves us $$$! So now look…

But we need to move to a new server, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any sucess with Server 5.5 on Windows 2008? We currently use it on 2003, and it works fine. Any guidance would be very much appreciated!

The next Windows machine I get will have to be Windows 7, which means it will have to run FMP11. According to the FMP11 specs, "FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced databases use the same file format (.fp7) as FileMaker Pro 10/Pro 10 Advanced, FileMaker Pro 9/Pro 9 Advanced and FileMaker Pro 8.x/Pro 8.x Advanced therefore databases can easily be shared between these versions." The 3rd user (using same version of FM--9.0v3) has no problems viewing the remote file and records correctly. This is the case when I am logged in as the admin or other user. Is this an FM Server issue or what and how can I repair. Thanks. Pedro

I installed a fresh version of FMP server 11 on a Mac Mini Server running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) server. Setup went well even though I had to use DVD drive sharing for the first time (since the Mac Mini servers don't have any optical media readers). The server has been running FMP 11 since mid-August with no problems. Once we opened up the lunch database to the public via web publishing, however, I started to get complaints that the server was "unavailable." Not so familiar with FileMaker either, but felt I must post this, in the hope it will save others from the painful experience I had when trying to install FMS 11 on our brand new XServe (Snow Leopard 10.6.5). The first problem I hit was that the installer wouldn't take me to the Admin Console Start Page. I tried countless re-installs and tried all the suggestions I could find on the web, with no success. Thanks to backups, I was able to recover them with relative ease, but it really got me thinking. Is there anything built into FileMaker Server that is capable of recording when a record from a database is deleted? If not, is there anything that can be coupled with FM Server (for example, an plug-in) that would allow for automatic logging of this data? He wants to do some new stuff and what I need to know is can FMS 5.5 and FMS 10/11 run together either on the same server machine or on the same network. They want to use the new version to take advantage of the web implementation, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue and we'd just stick with 5.5. I know, upgrade the whole thing. That's not an option as that is up to the developer of their main package to do the update.
