FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad

This is a curiosity question, not really any problem. I have several FM13 tables that I'm sending to my iPad via email. Several of them begin to immediately download when I open the email. Others I have to 'tap' the attachement in the email to initiate the download process. Is there some aspect within the FM table that affects this behavior. Again, not a problem, but if I can determine how to get all my tables to 'auto' download that would be best.

Is it at all possible to import records from a csv file using the import records step in Filemaker Go? I'm working on a bank records app for Filemaker Go. I can download a bank records file using Safari, and can open it in Numbers. But how can I select a folder in Filemaker Go? Jim

I am using a script to add a record in a portal, and at the end of the script it goes to a particular field in the last row of the portal. This pops up the value list and off you go. I'm not sure if it is a FM12Go v FM13Go issue, but in a new database that function isn't behaving consistently. In some portals it is working, in others it doesn't. I attached the script here. I have several container fields that link to images by reference. I'm using Fm Server 13 installed with Microsoft server 2008 R2. When connecting through the desktop (with fm12) I see the images, but when I try to access them through Fmgo, all i see in the container field is the path.

I have a FM Go13 database that requires me to print a report. I've scripted the print routing with both a page setup and print command. In the print command I request a PDF be created. I understand, after reading the FM 13 user manual that FM GO doesn't support creation of a PDF format. Is there any way that I can create a document that can be emailed? The mobile users won't have any access to a local printer. Without a PDF type solution, the database is really compromised

In a database of contacts when someone uses multiple email addresses I enter them all in one field separated by commas. On the desktop when I run a script that sends an email to the contact it is sent to all the addresses (using an external email application). On FileMaker Go, however, instead of inserting each address separated by commas in the mail app, I get nothing - an empty "To:" field. I'd rather not have to add fields for those with multiple email addresses and feel like there's got to be an easier solution. Thanks for any help!

Hello, I have made a FM solution that is fully compatible for the iPad and I am having trouble doing something for its connectivity. I currently have FM Server 13 and the Disconnect when idle on for 15 minutes. The feature works perfectly with FM Pro where it disconnects the user on idle and quits all windows. However, this does not seem to happen with the iPad. Instead if FMreauthenticate is active, it asks for the username and password of the user and goes straight back to where the user left off. I am trying to find a way to call the local weather conditions and store them in database. We have field crews out doing painting and blasting and need to store the local temps of the area they are in. I this possible to do on the ipad 2?

I'm lost. We have a number of computers on our LAN with one machine set as a FM12 server. How do I get an IPAD to see the files on my server where whenever I update a record on the IPAD it updates on the server. Also, can this be done if I'm in another place far from the office. If I'm willing to just email the file over, how do you do that easily from the server? I see how the GO program works, I know FM12 enough to be able to work with it. It's the connection and copying to my IOS devices that I'm lost with. I'm not technical enough for all the technical jargon used. I haven't seen a walkthrough anywhere online that can help me with this. Anyone?

Hi, Just wondering if anybody knows how to do this: I have created an iOS configuration profile for a FileMaker Go database using the 'App Maker' file and it works fine when emailing or hosting on a web server. However, I would like to be able to store the configuration profile file in a container field (or in a text field - as Base64 encoded?) in the database it will create a home screen shortcut for and then somehow, probably using the web viewer run a script that 'opens' that profile file and installs it on the device, therefor not requiring the use of email or an internet connection. Fields resize automatically when getting focus on an iPad. Is there a way to prevent this?

It seems that photos taken in FM Go automatically get saved with the date and time that the photo was taken. Is there any way of changing this so that the photo is either saved or tagged with the contents of a nominated field field from the same record that the photo sits in ?

Hello, I am looking to incorporate an order tracking system using barcodes and FileMaker to easily track where an order is in the plant. Basically I want to know if what I want to do is even possible, and if so how to do it as inexpensive as possible. Using FileMaker Pro 12, and FileMaker Go and a barcode scanner (I would use a smartphone or iPad as the scanner and FileMaker Go), I would like to enter an order into the database, assign a barcode to it, then when the order gets to the plant I want them to be able to scan the barcode and send it to the office so our database will update with a timestamp of when the department got the order. Hello I have a file that contains some youtube videos that I view with the webviewer. When I port the file to FM go, on the iphone it works great except the video won't autoplay but on the ipad it won't automatically play or play full screen like it does on the iPhone. Hi, this might be something i am not doing right, however.... When i place a new picture (png) into a global container field in my mac FMP13 solution, the field is updated throughout the solution. But, when i then copy the FMP13 file to iPhone to run with FMGO 13, the container field retains the old picture (like it is cached somehow). I have tried flushing cache steps and refreshing object, but this not seem to fix it. The only way to force an update (for the mobile to display properly) is to do a new compressed version or create a new kiosk-version. As near as I can determine the stencils in v13 are not helpful if one elects not to use the Toolbar. For our purposes the toolbar isn't needed and so that becomes wasted real estate. The custom sized stencil will do the trick, but can someone tell me what those dims should be for a 4 inch iPhone screen? Thank you in advance.

I' have a container field in my filemaker solution file. I can go to camera mode if I click it and chose camera when the container is empty. It allows me to take a picture within FileMaker solution but it won't let me switch to video mode even if i click on "video" while it's camera mode. Do I always need to take a video first before launching Filemaker solution then I have to chose "import > file" to insert video into the container field? I have a fm database which serves as a data collector. I have set my Data collection fields to Numeric which automatically bring up the iOS Numeric keypad. This brings up not only digits 0 - 9 but all the other characters on the iOS Numeric kep pad as well. Having all these other characters is not what I want as it makes the but keyboard buttons quite small on the iPhone. However, I also have a "go to record" script which I notice on the iPhone brings up a simple phone dialing keypad with just digits 0 - 9 and a del(x) button. Is there anyway that I can set my Numeric field to bring up this keyboard on the iPhone instead of the standard Numeric keyboard.

When logged into my app with admin credentials I get the standard "insert" menu when clicking on a container field. However, under a limited privilege set I am unable to add content. Tapping on a container field simply does nothing. The limited set has full access across the board to the table in question which by the way only stores media content. I actually trigger adding the content with a script that goes to a layout, creates a new record , inserts a key and then enters the actual container field automatically. My IPad is running ios 5.1.1, the highest version it can run. FMGo 13 will not run on this version of ios. Bummer, a lotof IPads are being made obsolete.

Am I correct in assuming this should go a long way towards replacing how things are done now, ie. via anchoring items in the layout to margins so they are stretched in landscape. Are the transitions smooth via the new way? I was wondering why FM haven't included dual portrait and landscape layouts in their starter solutions.

I am wondering if there is a way to help prevent users from accidentally deleting a Go!-based solution in the "Files on Device" window in Filemaker Go. A swipe, and tap,on the Delete button seems to make it all too easy to delete what may be an important database. Any ideas?

Hi, I've got a client that will be using the 2X software to log into Filemaker from an Android Device. The reason is because of the camera and the products ability to "Mark Up" a photo taken easily. I have no experience in the 2X software and what to expect ... Hello All, I have come across a funny behaviour from FMgo. Through the iPad, if I enter find mode, type in a field and hit the 'Go' button on the soft keyboard, the find is performed. If I take that very same file, remove admin access, run it in kiosk and run it locally on the iPad, the 'Go' button does diddly-squat. I've had to create buttons to get around the issue which if in browse mode they enter find mode and if in find mode, it performs the find. So that works, but users natively hit the 'Go' key on the keyboard Has anyone come across this? Or is there something I need to enable or disable for the 'Go' key to perform the search? Thanks! I am trying to start with a different form for the iPad (from the iPhone one) at login. In the past I have used "Get (System Platform)" to tell the difference between system platforms. The iPad and the iPhone both return the number "3" when I use this method. Any ideas?

Hi, I have a database which contains many photos. These photos are stored in my Dropbox, and are linked to the database through a container (only the reference is stored). On my MacBook Pro, no problem. But if I open my database on my iPhone (the database is hosted in the cloud by a provider), the link to the photo is, of course, dead. How could I create another link (in another field) or script, to open the photo directly in the Dropbox app on my iPhone ? One solution would be to store in the database the Dropbox URL for each photo and open it in the Web viewer but it is not very handy as each photo has then to be downloaded each time it is opened.…

The database currently has a container field using the GetMap custom function ( this same function can be found in the FM12 starter solutions). However, I am trying to find a method that will keep the map visible when the iPad in not connected to wifi. Hi all, I have made a test file that I want to run on my iPhone but when I try to add it to the phone I get an error message that says it could not be copied because I do not have permission to view its contents. As it is only a test file I have set the sharing permissions to all can view and edit in the finder and in Filemaker I have set just a username with no password for full access. Basically it's too small, the map isn't even visible as the view area is taken up by the Google sidebar. The goal is to offer a fast and easy way to create documents on an ipad based on existing text blocks. The number of existing text blocks is about 5000. Each text block contains approx. 150 words. Hello I have considered making a filemaker go app and would like to have a large DATABASE presence for the file. I would like to use caspio for the online cloud database. Has anyone had any success with connecting a fm go database to modify a caspio database online? Seems like a good solution preferable to SQL type venues. The Location and LocationValues functions both report an accuracy for the returned location in meters, but I can't find any documentation reporting what measure of accuracy is being returned. Is it CEP? CEP95? 2DRMS? None of FileMaker's documentation says, and neither does Apple's documentation on the CLLocation class.

Hi, I have a solution that I have received much needed help from by FMForum members and part of the solution is to filter a portal from a long list (1000 records). the application is to be used on an iPad and the filter doesn't behave very well in FMGo with the keyboard popping up and a dialogue asking me if I want to discontinue the script...I did a search and nothing came up. Is it just intuitively obvious to experts (not me for sure) that you simply don't filter portals for fields that will be used in FMGo? If so, what do you do? Using FM Pro Advanced 12.0v1 and FM Go for iPad. In FM Pro, clicking in a field formatted as an Edit box for Text simply results in a flashing cursor appearing where I can start typing. When I tap in the same field in FM Go, the field also doubles in height. Is there a way to prevent or restrict this behavior? I believe the field in question is plenty large enough to display the text appropriately.

( Filemaker Support White Page ) Â I get the "Prev" and "Next" buttons at the lower left of the display on the iPad Mini not the signature button when I navigate and I tap on the signature container field. Hi, I was hoping that I could open a local WiFi between my MacBook Pro and the iPad so I can build and test my solution without having to upload/download to/from iTunes or email it! The iPad seems to see the network since I can select it in the iPad WiFi menu. Many applications automatically add photos to the devices camera roll (ie Instagram), when a photo is taken. Is it possible to automatically add a photo to the camera roll when you take a picture in a container field within FM Go?

Since upgrading to iOS7 on my iPhone my home screen icons created to call my local files from a URL no longer launch my FM files. All I get is a white screen. Is anyone else having the same issue?

I have been researching and nowhere does it give a list of things that I will not be able to do on iPad or iPhone that I can do on desktop program. Is there such a list? Here is all I have so far: Can't use: custom menus pop-up windows or modal windows What about conditional formatting? Or script triggers? Or tooltips? Why am I asking instead of testing? Hi Guys, I've built a iPad registration kiosk for a client at his business place. Everything seems to be working just fine, but on the last step to complete the registration I need the iPad to print the registration out for the back office. That also works fine, but the Print Dialog box on ipad is un-avoidable according to FileMaker Go Documentation. This dialog throws off most customers and hinders the registration process. I need to find some type of work around for this so customers are not prompted with the print dialog. I have set my FM v12 FIle, manage, IWP, advance setting set to disconnect user after 5 mins to test.. Come back hours later.. my iPhone5, turn on.. press G and it reconnects right back into my program!!? I don't want that! for my self. I rather them be disconnected, than hang me or others ... other users are coming and going too. I discovered this recently, and thought more folks might be interested to know: When calling the Get ( WindowContentHeight ) function in FileMaker Go for iPhone, subtract 31 to get the correct result. On desktop versions and FileMaker Go for iPad, Get ( WindowContentHeight ) does not include the status area or window title bar in the result; but FileMaker Go for iPhone does include the window title bar, which is 31 points tall. I have a database that uses the Webdings font in a text field, the letter "g" in Webdings is a square that fills the field and gives the impression of the time elapsed on a job. Hi Folks. I have an FM12 solution that uses the 6Barcode plugin to generate some barcodes in each record. This database is also available to Filemaker Go users using Filemaker Network Sharing in FM12ADV. Of course the barcodes do not render in FM Go as there is no plugin on the iPad side. I'm looking for any solution that would allow the barcodes to appear on the FM Go side. The file must be served to the iPad and cannot reside on it. Barcodes need to be code 128. I have a simple label that I would like to print from my layout and paired imz320 mobile printer. The printer pairs fine and have confirmed the bluetooth connection works through Zebra utilities app and able to print. My thoughts are to have a Print button on the layout, that onclick will open bluetooth session, gather the current field variables for the records selected, insert them into predefined RAW Zebra ZPL code (that will have its own label layout defined), and send it to the connected device. On iPad, there is an unappealing gray overlay that appears about 1-2 seconds after content load in the web viewer. Tapping on the viewer makes this go away. Has anyone experienced this, and is there a way to avoid it? I have content I don't want users to interact with in some cases, and in any case, I don't see the benefit of this overlay. Hi, I've a working database on a mac running 10.6.8 and Filemaker Pro 12. It has a print script on the mac that is invoked when a button is pressed/clicked, and the script is set to ignore print dialog boxes and just print - this works just fine from the mac. However, when I log in to the same database via Filemaker Go on an ipad, and click the very same "print" button - the dialog boxes for choosing printer settings and choosing printer always show up before I can print. I'm in the early stages of building an app for iOS that would serve multiple purposes. A few of the options will send emails to a specific account that would be monitored for call-backs. We'd like few of the other options would be to place orders in our current Filemaker system, but I don't see a way to do that without FM:GO, and as nice as it looks, a dedicated database app is not really the solution we're looking for right now. Is there any way at all to make table updates or query FMP databases with native code similar to how I'd work with PHP+MySQL or C#+MSSQL, or am I out of luck?

Hello all, I have been given a FM-go database to update. I've been working with FileMaker for many years but this is my first run with FM-Go I'm not sure if this is possible. The client stores a picture in a container field. When they click, tab or touch the field they get a contextual Menu. It asks to choose an image from a library, take a photo or get a signature. I need to remove the option to get a signature as this is confusing some of the users. Is there any way to control this menu by changing what it says and does? Hello, Using Save Records as PDF command and I have a layout used for printing purposes thats 8.5" x 11" When I save this file via script from a desktop, I get a single page PDF as expected. When I perform the script from FMgo, I get a two-page output. The second page is blank. Any ideas on how to force it to one page from FMgo? I have a FM Go solution whereby the bulk of the data entry on the iPad is via buttons, which have an attached script that inserts pre-defined text into a text field "Notes". The inserted text from buttons appearing on a particular tab, is appended to any text already there. I have a solution to be implemented on iPad. When I test this file using my iPhone, everything works perfectly. But when moving it to the iPad, I get random errors and things not working as expected. For example, when using a portal - I pass the key field from the portal row as a parameter to a script to open a different form. On iPhone this works fine. On iPad, I get: "The provided find criteria is not valid. Enter a valid request before proceeding.” I've noticed a few problems like this between the two devices... Has anyone else had similar issues?

I am trying to use FM Go to initiate a payment procedure with a financial app. Through callback I want to get the result of the transaction back into FM Go. This process works fine, except for the fact that I do net get the result back into FM. I have used the barcode solutions I have found on this forum as an example. I have tried both the get script parameter and the variable option. Also tested both FM Go 11 and 12. I have a script which saves a PDF ( with a specific name) to the iPad and inserts into the database. Trouble is if someone runs the script again the file isn't overwritten and appends a number. As far as aI can tell this also stops the inserted preview up dating. Anyone know how to delete the original file that gets created on the iPad ?

I have a file with phone numbers in filemaker pro and I ported it to Iphone in FM GO. I have a button that I used to dial the number in the field phone but it doesn't do anything when I use the button in the file in filemaker go ... What am I doing wrong. I would like to find a way where a team of people can work on a single record Person A completes task then sends record to Person B who completes task etc etc. What is the best way to facilitate this process without having to send the entire db? I am using a Web Viewer in FMP 12 to do some Google Map routing displays. On my iMac it shows the route graphically, which is what I want. On my iPad it defaults to the mobile display showing text descriptions of turns, etc. by default. I am trying to 'coerce' the Web Viewer to show me the 'standard' non-mobile display in the iPad, while keeping the mobile option for another layout that I'll use on the iPhone. hi all, is it just me or does the attaching of a fmp12-file (compacted copy or previously exported data) does not work on FM Go? i export data to the temp directory and use the same $$ within the "Send Mail" step but no attachement is seen in the email. attaching a csv-file does work. anyone? egbert

Hi all; I made a 1 Mb filemaker abc.fmp12 file which I want to sell. User may download filemaker GO 12 from AppStore. I send the file to user by email. But it should work on only 1 IPAD (in windows it was possible with HDD serial number look plugin). Any ideas ? how to make my software copy protected ? Do FileMaker can look iPads Serial Number? Hey all, I've got to capture UDP streaming text from an IP address into a field or fields. I know I can do this in Filemaker using a unix command and Scriptmaster. Just don't know how to do this on an iPad with FM Go. Has anyone had to do this? Thanks!

Looking for a solution on a "DropDown" field that is Huge (5,000 records +) it seems that the "Type ahead" is not working in FMGO, but works fine in FM 12..... Is there a work around for this? or did I miss something? Please Help

I have a db that is local on the iPad. There are two tables ticket_local (local table) ticket_cloud (external data source) User only makes entries in the local table, and once in awhile will push local edits to the 'ticket_cloud'. This can only happen when there is an internet connect. Connection to the internet will be intermittent, once connect is made, is there a way to re-establish the external data source without opening an closing the file?

Hi, I would like to have FilemakerGo run a script on the same file but different device. Reason,,,, because I can't install a barcode font on the iPad, and need to print documents with Barcodes, and since I need the user to remain mobile and use his/her iPad (which is running from a shared file on a desktop PC) Tried using OpenURL, but that just runs the script on the iPad. I have been using helvetica light and Helvetica neue light and both seem to show as a default font on an ipad. Both these fonts are supposed to be installed by iOS 6.

I have a database hosted by FMS12 and run by a few FM12 clients and am wanting to use FM Go 12 on my ipad as a client as well. I've got FM Go running the database but all my images from a container field are not displaying on the ipad (they are fine on FM12 clients on Windows PCs) The images in the particular container field are referenced to a folder on the server , as apposed to Filemaker itself holding the images , so as to not overburden the clients and this has worked out great in the past. Any ideas why the images are not showing in FM Go 12 but are on FM12 Windows clients? thanks

I am trying to make a shortcut button that grabs my database, turns it into a PDF and pulls up an email form with a PDF attachment. Works on PRO, but I just need it to work on GO, so no If Else, just pure script for the iPad. Ideas? I'm a bit unclear about the variable naming scheme etc required to get this. Anyone have a script? Just need a button that brings up the PDF attachment. (Oh, and I will be sending out several per day, so maybe defined by a certain time?) Thanks!!!

I have made a page that I'm using to track certain data, but I want a button that will empty all the fields I added info to and bring it back to the original way it was. I tried revert record but that just clears the last field, and doesn't revert the whole file back to original. Ideas? Thanks

I have a GO file that has a date field. I noticed that when I select this field, the selector wheel shows up, but it takes a coffee break before it will enter the date when I have selected it. FMgo 12 for the iPad Creating a new record through the portal. Date Field is in the related record. I have tried it with a drop down calendar (with the icon and without). and without calendar. I designed a a FM12 solution that has two fields. The first is a "pull-down" menu that looks up a value list. The second is a repeating field that based on which item you select from above will generate a pull down list of values to select. For some reason, just on the iPad (not the desktop version), when it enters the second field it "selects all" of the contents and allows you to cut/copy/paste. This occurs whenever you re-enter the field. It's just a bit annoying seeing the text get highlighted each time and takes another "point with the finger" to deselect it. Any cures to this? Rick.

Was hoping FMP Go would be my solution to a relatively simple issue. Wanted to be able to read a script from an FM field and record it into a container. The issue is that the popup window for the audio recording controls is so big, I can't view what it is I'm trying to read. Can this box be minimized, or is there some other solution out there?

We have a time card solution running on an ipad (connecting via wifi to our server which runs FM12 Advanced) for use by our employees who enter their start and finish times for the day. It is a fairly basic set up - with buttons set with 'insert current date' script attached, so that today's date will automatically enter. the script reads: Go to Field [employee_TiMECARDS::DateManual] Insert Current Date [select] Commit Records/Requests [] For some reason though, the ipad or FM GO does not seem to be recognising the correct date.
