Hi - just wondering what measures people might take in the following scenario. Multiple FM7 files are currently hosted on old hardware (running FMS11) and everything needs to be upgraded. A new server is being prepped running FMS19 but there are a number of legacy plugins which almost certainly won't play well with FM19, so before the plugins are tested and replaced, new hardware is being setup running FMS11. We need to move all of the files from the old hardware to the new hardware and test it in a safe environment which minimises the risk to the live databases. Once this has been checked out, then we can switch off the old server and start using the new hardware. …

It has been a while since I was on this forum. I am looking for some suggestions. I just upgraded to Catalina (soon to Big Sur) on my MAC. Is there a version of FMP that is compatible with either Catalina or Big Sur? Believe it or not, I am still using FMP-9 on an older MAC.

Is it at all possible to toggle between 2 or more scripts in version 7? I have a container and one graphic is placed in there for a period of time (made that script and works fine). I also want to be able to change the graphic to the "next level" graphic when clicking on the container box. I did a reinstall of FM Server 5.5 on a NT server and when I attempt to start the FileMaker service, I get a message "The FileMaker Server service returned service specific error 51" So now FM will not run for me and I am stuck. Any help greatly appreciated.

what is the most efficient way to back up a FM db on a FM11 Server when we have no access to the Admin Console (invalid password), but still have access through FM directly (open external sources)? We have been unable to get any response from the hosting company in weeks for that issue and worry that soon the whole thing will shut down. We have been keeping updates for the individual tables, but of course, that will result in a lot of effort when relocating to a new host.

I am running a server side script that attempts to update records in a MySQL table that is set up as an external data source. It runs without issue for hours to weeks at a time then gets hung on error 512 (Record was already modified by another user). The problem is that I can't figure out how to capture and handle this error. I've tried adding "If get(lasterror)=512 then <skip this record and continue to next> just after the 'Go to Record(next)' but it never gets to that step. I'm running FMS 11.0.5.510 on OS X 10.9.5. It's serving forty databases, one of which is served to the web via custom web publishing. Everything is running smoothly but the campus security auditor is picking up a vulnerability with the old version of OpenSSL running on OS X 10.9.5's Apache. I addressed this on a different, non-FMS Mac by disabling Apple's bundled Apache and using MacPorts to install Apache2. How to do this on my FMS 11 Mac? Just getting MacPorts to install Apache2 is the first problem as port install apache2 fails with a conflicting ports message. Hi, I am using filemaker 11 to copy customer info from excel into the database and then it would generate special keys in pdf allowing us to send the file to the customer. My access to the filemaker is non-admin, and the import function of customer info has been blocked. We are keying in the record one at a time, so we are looking at ways to automate this process. When I try to create a new record using applescript with just it was not allowed. There are data that require validation like date and auto-indexed record number. So, is there a way we could create new record and then using the set function to copy data into the report?

Just a quick question..... Is there any reason, other than firewall, that a FM Pro client could see a FM Server in the Open Remote File dialog box, but NOT see the files on that hosted on that server? The files ARE set to display in the Open Remote File dialog box. The files are seen when FileMaker Pro is run on the Server. The files are NOT seen when FileMaker Pro is run on a client.

I doubt many people care about this, but I'm annoyed that my Server Script is throwing errors in the server Log Viewer (under the Server Events module). Specifically, error 401 (No records match the request) and 101 (Record is missing). Even if I have Set Error Capture [On] in there and capture the error code using Get(LastError), FileMaker Server still throws an accusing finger at me and says "scripting error"! It'd be nice to eliminate error warnings like this so I can focus on real errors that I care about. I'm running FileMaker Server 12 Advanced (12.0.4.405).

Hi: I want to share a good cloud backup alternative, Hubic, it gives 25 GB free, and you can schedule backup to happen "x" hours or minutes after a file has changed. So just add a backup schedule to the "Hubic"folder of your PC or MAC where you have your server and instruct Hubic to sync 1 hour after, that way you make sure the upload will happen after your backup has completed. Neat and free. I was using Onedrive, but with the recent decrease in free capacity I looked for alternatives, I specially like the delay before upload. Carlos

All of a sudden today, it stopped working! I checked to see if there were any updates installed from apple or java... NONE! I have two filemaker servers. One is version 7 and the other is version 11 advanced. I transferred the files from FM7 server to FM11 with no problem. Long story short, everything was great until I realized that the users were still using the FM7 files. To fix the problem, I shut down the filemaker service on both servers, then made a backup of each server by copying the files to another folder. Then I removed the FM11 files that were never used and copy and pasted the .fp7 files from the FM7 server to the FM11 server. I am having a problem running a shell script from Filemaker server 11 on a Mac running 10.6.8. Every time I try to run it the log says it was aborted by user. The script is designed to look in a folder for an XML file. If there is one it changes the format and replaces some characters so that it will import into Filemaker correctly. The script works fine when I run it from terminal but fails from FMS. At first I thought it might be because the folder it is checking isn't on the machine itself but on a shared drive. I have a .fm7 file hosted on FMS9. We have records that are added via the FM8.5 client as well as an incoming ODBC connection from a Tomcat webserver. After the records are processed in one department, they get moved into our accounting database (a seperate fm7 file on the same server) for billing purposes. The original records are removed from the first database. After accounting is done with the records they get moved into an archive file. Everything works fine in the file, but it starts at 40MB and grows about 100MB-400MB every day. It's grown to about 30GB (yes, GB) after about a month. It works fine most of the time, then for no apparent reason a request will take ten second instead of less than one - it isn't any particular page, and a page can work fine on minute and then take 10 seconds, and then be fine again. The current architecture uses one machine deployment but the machine is quite ancient and doesn't support any micro-frameworks that eases my web development duties. Hello Everybody: I just had an "incident" that took all morning to fix. Yesterday I restarted the server, for some reason the router did not assign the reserved address and I did not notice. Came late to the office this morning to a "Filemaker is not working" (Everybody has an opener file with buttons that poitn to the reserved IP to open the files). Everybody except one, unfortunately! I have added an internal SSD to my FMP server machine and have moved the databases to a folder on this drive. I specified this folder in the Additional Database folder path (and checked the box for use additional database folder). I am able to host the databases this way. However when the server is rebooted, they do not start up automatically as they did when they were in the default location. I cannot find anything to tell me how to control which databases are launched on startup. Is there a way to make my new folder the default folder? Thanks!!

Hello, I have recently had to re-install our FM Server and for some reason, the cache flush distribution interval is set to 03:01 (3 hours and 1 minute) and it won't change. I don't understand why it is doing this. I have tried adjusting it, saving it, and restarting the server, but it just stays at 03:01. Has anyone else had this problem? After a few initial searches, I have not seen this come up anywhere else. Any clues on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I'm using pyodbc to send SQL queries to a filemaker 11 server. I can read data, no problem. I can update data, no problem. But when I attempt to insert data, no errors are thrown but no records are added to the database.

Hello, I'm a filemaker newbie. I have Filemaker Server 9.0. I have 3 questions: 1. I read in a book that Filemaker Server needs to run in its own machine, which mean no other services can run on it to prevent data corruption. Is this true? 2. Can I run Filemaker Server on a virtual machine if the VM meets all the hardware requirements? 3. If I go with the VM route and then later down the road I purchase an actual machine, what is the migrating process from the VM to the actual new machine?

Hi there, Old timer here, still using FM server adv 11 and the FMStudio Pro API for 11, DWCS5. I can creating working php pages using the basic filemaker connection option, but I can't get the filemaker with table based connection option to work. When I built the connection, it tests out file. But when I go to access the php page on the server, I get a 500 error and saying something about resource not found. Hi. This is not strictly an FMS question, but... I have two sites accessing a server - all three are in different time zones in Australia. As certain transactions are made in the database, a log entry is sent back to a log table on the server which - in itself - works fine. The problem I am having is that the server records it's own time which will differ from that of the client. Sure, I can send the timestamp of the client event t to the log rather than using the record_created timestamp of the server, but then the log will be out of sequence depending on the difference of the time zones. I have an input system in FMP11 that uses a dialog box with a global field to input quantities for each record. On click OK the script will add the value in the record proper field. The users should enter just one number in that dialog box global field (e.g.: "10" or "-10"). Hello, I have taken on a database developed in Filemaker 7 and it is currently running in Filemaker Server 11. I need to setup a development environment so that I am not working on the live system for obvious reasons. I read an article on the Filemaker website on the ways to do this. I chose the option to copy the files from a backup to a local machine to work on. I copied all of the database files from the backup on the server to my local development machine. I need to upload some files that I have modified to the Filemaker server. I have been working on a backup set of the database on my local dev machine and now would like to implement these changes to the Filemaker server. Which is the best way for me to do this so that I don't have to manually edit the files on the server to copy what I have modified? Fairly sure the issue is localized to the one client, but I cannot find the issue. This one newly installed client cannot see the files remotely hosted on our server, the other 400 clients have no issues. I've confirmed it is this one PC my installing NMAP on the client and scanning the server and it can see port 5003 open on the server. I've went even further and installed Wireshark on the client and filtered the server IP and tried to connect, wireshark showed no communication with the server, not even an attempt. Using FM 11 Server Advanced  I am having a problem with IWP. On the attached picture there is a list of students with choices for teachers to input classes for next year. The choices were set up as a value list and radio buttons. All the students are defaulted to Standard (Using the client). When the teachers access the internet file and select a different radio button, it will only update one student at a time. I'm doing something new so pardon me if I don't have all the details. My Company would like to get daily snapshots, for example, how many orders are in-house. Then you can graph and track the trend: are the number of orders going up or going down. As stated above, no idea where this came from. Last successful edits performed a few days ago, today, no modifications allowed. Logged in as admin remotely as well as on the server itself, same behavior. Can't change anything in the file, or in the security settings etc. This is on the MacPro running 10.6.8, latest available OS patches, server version 11.0.5.510, running with IWP, all other web options off. How do I create a hard or soft return in my calculation? I have two different fields in one calculation but I want them spaced out with a sharp return. ex: data1field1 ¶ data1field2 ¶ does not work as easily as I expected. The message says "An Operator (e.g +,-,*,...) is expected here."

I hope someone can help me. When our xserve requires a hard reboot, the Filemaker Server Daemon starts up like it’s suppose to. But one our databases is listed as closed, reopening within server admin is futile, it attempts to open but ultimately stays listed as closed. 1)Can you do multiple daily backups while database is active with logged in users? I have a two-file database with an interface file and data file. The user logs into the interface file while the data file is set to open using a specific account and password (in the File Options settings). The users have an account in the interface file but not the data file. This import script has run for 1-2 months non-stop, no problems. The script runs fine when: 1) I run the script manually from the scheduler in FileMaker Server Admin console. 2) run from FileMaker Pro But I m not really interested in any manual approach. Hello Everyone Today I installed the "fms_11.0.5.510" updater to my database server and my web server.  I needed to run the "fms11patch" installed  in order to get the admin console working again. The new data exchange database has been built from scratch, the two other product files are in separate legacy databases which have existed for some years, are in regular use and run reliably doing what they do. I have run into the problem with other programs as well so I realize it is not Filemaker's doing but I am trying to find a workaround for it. The issue is that I've been using 'Save As PDF' in a script and it worked out great until I noticed the poor quality. With "Save as" I was able to define a file path and name relative to the computer in use but I am not seeing a way to do this with the Print as PDF command in a script. They've tried to upgrade from Filemaker 11 server, which has been running fine for several years I'm told, to Filemaker 12 server. After the change the server services failed, IIS no longer works, remote desktop gateway is gone and the active directory database is corrupted. I restored the machine's C: drive to a date before the change and that restored functionality and filemaker 11 server. I have a sales order processing database where each sales order line has a number of records related to it. The related records have several date fields and from the context of the sales order line, I need to be able to establish the latest date in each of these date fields and store it in the sales order line for use later. I chose to write a custom function to which would determine the latest date in a list of dates, so I could evaluate each set of related dates in turn. Hi, I excluded the FileMaker Server folder from the Time Machine backups but I want the databases to be backed up in the TM hard external hd. So I created an applescript that copies the files to a folder outside the FM Server folder but when I run the schedule to execute the applescript file with FM server I get the error message "aborted by user". What other options I have to copy a file from the FM Server backups folder to a folder accessible to Time Machine? Thanks in advance!

Hi folks, I manage FM for a university department, and we recently upgraded to server 11. After the upgrade, I have noticed that closed files on our server are no longer included in the daily backup (as they were with server 8.5). I keep the closed files in the default folder, so I know that isn't the problem. I also went through the admin console and I didn't see any option to "include closed files" or anything like that. I like the keep closed files on our server (they are for previous semesters) because people need them every once in a while. Mac mini is hosting FMS10 on OSX server. Issue is with installation of FM10 on to a new MacBook Pro with OS 10.8 After installing FM10 on the MacBook Could not see the host so I assumed it was the issue with the date/time not matching. So I uninstalled FM10 set the date to before Sept 2008 (april 2002) then reinstalled FM10. Now I see the host but not the hosted files. After looking at my old notes I see that I should have deleted the Perfs file. My instructions for deleting the perfs file do not match the new OS 10.8 (Library/Preferences/ Filemaker perfs). Hi, I just create an application that connects to server remotely. However, when I bring my application to the place where the server server resides, the connection is slow. Because the data from the application has to connect to the server from outside than travel back inside. The data also travel through the firewall. Is there a way in filemaker to auto detect the i.p. whether the server is near your computer locally or outside? Thanks. K.C.

I have one server still on server 9. If I'm on a workstation I can open a remote file and see all the files on the server and open them. However, when I log into the admin console and look at databases, it says 0 and doesn't show any. In the database directory, all my files are still there. Even the backups stopped working. I do get some error messages. I'm in the midst of converting some files to server 12 but I can't stop them on the console. Also, I tried to stop the database server (figured I'd try to start it up again) and it gives me an error and doesn't do it. HELP!!

I have a pop-up menu that uses a value list of customer names that inputs the customer ID into the field instead. I have used a pop-up menu instead of a drop-down list to hide the customer IDs. When the customer record has been finished it is saved, for security reasons, and locked down by using script triggers to prevent any user changing the fields. My problem is that I can't setup a script trigger to lock the pop-up menu from being changed, this means that even if the record is locked, the customer name/ID can be changed and this breaks the whole point of securing the record. I'm still new to filemaker so any help would be appreciated

I made the silly mistake up letting Java update itself, and now of course FMS won't launch. I've cleared the Java cache several times, rebooted several times, and no matter what I do the app still says it won't launch. Is there any fix known for this? It would be really nice if I didn't have to reformat the whole system again just to get it running. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Hello folks! I have an old installation at a client of mine's. The server is working but the console jar is not on the machine anymore and localhost:16000 is not working. I guess some upgrade was done to the server and something is not working with IIS7 I DO have access to the fmsadmin via terminal. Can someone send me a jar for 10 so I can edit it and access the console? or else, is it possible to change the path where the databases are located via fmsadmin? All I really need to do is that. After installing the Mac OS Mavericks I can open filemaker 11's files but it is not possible to use the mouse or track pad to select any field. I can use the mouse with the menu but not on the file. In the file the only way to change or select field is using tab. Any solution?

Hi: I was checking my Kapersky settings on the computer hosting fmserver, and found it is sending TCP info to 2 IP addresses in Ukraine: 176.32.99.193:443 and 176.32.99.56:443 I blocked those addresses and then fmserver.exe connected again to Ukraine through other addresses. Amounts of data are small (largest 9 KB received/1.6 KB sent) all active for many hours. It is also receiving small amounts of data on connections open for many days through its LAN address (192.168.1.5), using ports 49204 and 49163. I have FileMaker Server 11 Advanced on a Windows Server 2012 server. I know, FM is not supported on Server 2012, but FMA Server runs just fine except the IWP. I keep getting a 503 error message. I have been working on this for four days now and I really need someones help. I have a feeling that I will have to roll the server back to Windows Server 2008 R2. I would rather not do this since I can connect to my hosted files and they are running way faster than when they were on 2008 R2. Any suggestions? Thanks, Randy

Hi All, I'm trying to find a way to get a list of all current logged-in users, whether they are FM Pro or IWP clients. Does anyone know of a way to do this, and also establish whether each client is an FM Pro or IWP client? I can capture details when a user logs in, and at that point establish whether they are via FM Pro or IWP, but can't trap if an IWP session ends through a timeout (and hence logs out the user). Thus I need a way to get a "Currently logged in" User list on demand. Thanks!

I recently upgraded two servers running OS X 10.6.8 to OS X 10.8.5, while keeping FMSA 11v5 installed. It was not terribly easy, so here are some notes I made. I hope this helps others: Before the upgrade, go into Server Admin and document all your settings and export the settings. Your settings will be wiped out during the upgrade most likely. Make a backup of your server drive just in case Upgrade to 10.8.5, do all additional mac software updates (if any) then reboot. Uninstall FMServer using the FMS11v5 installer.
