right now we have a windows server machine running filemaker server for 15 users. 4 macs and 11 pcs. the reason im looking for a different machine is because the server is in a small room and if we close the door it gets very hot in less than an hour and it starts to sounds very loud like a turbine, so we have to leave the door open all the time . one solution is to add an air conditioner unit but here in my country energy is very expensive , and that units is not for 24 hours working. the other solution is to buy a mac mini server with solid state hard drive, and 8 gigas memory . that mac mini doesnt get very hot and is very quiet and can be placed almost anywhere.…

I finally was able to instal with success FM Server 12 on a Windows 7 dedicated PC. I have the Server Web, Publication Web motor and the Database Server running. When I start the Wamp Server (basically a MySQL Server) there seems to be a conflict with the port 80. FM Server runs well but I need to instal on the same pc a MySQL server. If this does not work, I could run the WampServer on another PC and connect to it via ODBC but with the FM Server license I have I don't believe I will be able to connect via ODBC to that db on another PC. Or am I wrong? Thanks for anyones help.

Hi All, I would like the Filemaker Server 12 to run ALL in English The problem is that I live in a french country and Windows 7 is only supplied in french. Hi again all. In an earlier thread about a week ago I was roundly "shredded" for running the FM database in an incorrect fashion (from a shared folder). OK, so I'll try to do the right thing by invoking "Open Remote" - and it's not working. Here's the details. Local Food Pantry in a Community Assistance Center. Hi All I'm about to incorporate a database written for a company I work for. Currently, our system is run off of a Windows Server, on which our Oracle database is placed, along with the front end software (R2) we use to manage it via remote desktop sessions. Each user has their own Windows server log in, and their own log in to access the R2/Oracle system simultaneously. I have a mac running Filemaker Pro 8.5 sharing files to other mac users on FM 8.5. I recently bought a PC running windows 8 and wanted to connect that to the Filmaker file, FM 8.5 wouldnt install on Windows 8 so I got hold of FM10. When you go to remote hosts it sees the mac running the FM file but shows no file to click on. If you try typing the exact URL in it says file is not found. I also tried copying the actual filemaker file from the mac to see if it would open and run on the PC which it does with no problem. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm trying out FMSA11 and trying to get server-side imports working using an external ESS MySQL data source. I have a single file "database" that contains several tables, one of which is the ESS sql database. My goal was to simply look for new records in the sql database, and then import these to another table. I tried to import directly (using "file:database" ) as the source. This gives a 100 error ("File Is Missing" error). From reading the forums, it's not clear whether importing from one table to another is possible server-side? I have a file in Library/FileMaker Server/Logs called "stderr" and it is 3.23GB. My client has one that is 450GB. Mostly it seems to be very detailed errors relating to ScriptMaster bulk email sending. Can I delete this file and system will just create another one? Can I set it up so it delete's older entries to keep the file size reasonable?

This has been happening for a long time, we usually just put up with it. Closing the file and re-opening it will show all changes, or just wating for a while. If I add a button or a graphic or make any sort of layout change, it can take a long time for users to see it at their desks. Recently, I added a 'dashboard' feature so that invoices are counted up and put in categories of 'today', 'this week', and 'this month'. If I open two windows on my desk with an invoice in one and the dashboard in the other, changes to the invoice in terms of status, date, etc will result in instant changes on the dashboard. We scheduled a server side script to run on our FMP 11 Server Advanced (running on Windows Server 2003) and forgot to set a time limit for it. Doh! The script has now been running for more that 36 hours, so we guess it must be looping or something. Unfortunately it is proprietory Filemaker code from a third party, so we have no access to the script to determine the problem. We can't stop the script because the server is the current user and won't log off. The server is a production system so we can't just stop it and start again. Using FileMaker 11 on a Mac, there are two files in the "FileMaker Server/Logs/" directory: stderr and stdout, which contain the console output of a bash script run via FileMaker Server scheduled system script. Is there any equivalent on Windows? I'm using FileMaker 12 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and I can't find the console output of my cmd script (when run by FileMaker Server scheduled system script). The reason I'm looking for this output is because my script is failing unless it is run by an Administrator account and I'm having a difficult time debugging it since I can't see the output/errors.

I am running FileMaker Server Advanced version 11.0.1.95 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit). All the clients are on Windows using either Pro 11.0v1, Pro11.0v2, Pro Advanced 11.0v1, or Pro Advanced 11.0v2. I have connected users with 0 files open. Dear FM community, I got asked by one of my clients to arrange some FM-hosting. As i have a dedicated server on a good line, i want to host it there (i like to keep control). My question is; What are the possibilities for managing quotas? In example: -Number of databases per customer -perhaps disk space/bandwith per customer I see numerous hosting providers which have these conditions, i came as far as administrator-groups, but i can't seem to limit anything there. I have a DB posted using IWP and for some reason I can't edit the records. When I click on the edit icon in the status bar to the left and switch to edit mode I can select a few fields but not all of them. Whats up? I have various drop down menus and radio buttons and I can't edit any of them. There are some text fields that are editable and some that are not.

I have successfully run FMS 10 on an xServe for a few years. I just upgraded my OS X Server from 10.5 on an xServer to a new 10.8 MacMini Server. I also upgraded my FMSA from v10 to v12. The server installation seems to be complete. The Admin Console Start Page opens with all the correct information. The OS X server app is running with file sharing and web services running. Hi, not sure if this is the right section but I'm hoping that someone has encountered this before, it's driving me insane. I'm running Filemaker Server 11 on Windows Server 2008 with IIS7 and PHP 5.2.23 (using FX if that helps) It seems that any page that requires data from my FM database takes ages to load. Any pages that don't require Filemaker load just fine. The main page I'm concerned about takes right on 90 seconds to load every time, and loads all the required FM data. I just got a new MacBook Pro which has OS X 10.8.2 and is running Java 7. I moved all of my applications from my old MacBook to this new one including the FMS11Admin Console. The FileMaker Server 11 software is on our Mac Server running OS X 10.6.8 and the FileMaker Server 11 version is 11.0.4.404. I can use the FMS11 Admin Console on the server just fine. Hi, Just recently uninstalled FMS_11 so I can install FMS_12 and in doing so I seem to have created a problem for the Windows IIS server. Web applications not using filemaker return a 500.19 error which has something to do with the applicationHost.config file. (See attached image). I have low to intermediate filemaker experience but am uncomfortable around server and PC's. We are running on iss from a dedicated PC. After restarting the host server to apply updates users ran into problems connecting to the FileMaker Server. Hello, Wondering if anyone has experiences to share with FM server 10 v.1 - not being able to access admin console, yet files are being hosted without a problem. I tested out listing files, clients, etc. via Terminal and it seems its all up and running. Though everytime I try to launch the admin console page I get the "an unknown error occurred" message. I have seen threads about unsupported java updates that could interfere with this and I have updated java to the recommended version, cleared all java caches, etc. We are on OS 10.6.8 server. I am unable to get FM Server 5.5 to start at all on an iMac G5 with a clean install of 10.5.8 with no other software. I've trashed and reinstalled FM server on this computer and tried several other computers with the same result. I have tried it with a test database with three fields and four records>same thing. Hello, I have a strange issue. We have created a small db that has a global table. We can do everything we need when the db is on a pc such as change global field data etc. Then when we move the db over to the server and then access the layout containing all the global fields, the fields will revert back to their original data. So we have 1234 in a global field on our layout that is from our global table, we then typ 567 in that field and close the db. When we open the db again, 1234 is back in the global. I have a couple of scripts which run perfectly when run via a client, but not when run as a scheduled script. I HAVE checked that all script steps are server compatible, and when I run the scripts in FM Advanced (11) with the debugger set on "stop on error", the scripts run through to conclusion with no errors. I created a new backup schedule and set the "Maximum Backups to Keep" option to 1. As a test I have it running the backup schedule every 5 mins. Windows Server 2003 has an requirement to purchase CALs (client access licenses) for each user or each machine that will be accessing the server. I'm trying to wade through Microsoft's documentation on this but maybe someone out there could just tell me whether or not this relates to running FileMaker Server. Hi guys, I have noticed that Server Adv.12.03 not longer clears the temp cache once a server script is finished. Usually the cache should be deleted once the server script is done, shouldn't it. It's happening on two Mac Servers 10.7.5 / 10.6.8 Has anyone else this problem? Is is a bug? I love the temp cache. I use it a lot to get data from the internet into the database (Load, write to file in temp , import into database) using server scripts.. Hi, We are severely regretting the Filemaker Server 12 upgrade. It has been one issue after another since doing so. Most of the petty issues are worked out now except for one major recurring issue that we never, ever had a problem with in FMS10 or 11. We have a scheduled script that imports orders from 2 websites every 5 minutes throughout the day. This script and our server had run for 2 years with FMS 11 without stopping and without any issues of any kind. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has compared access speed between local versus cloud hosting. I have a pretty intricate solution using many plugins and runs shell scripts. The servers are located in our office in NY and just opened another office in LA. I have our LA and remote users access via VPN. Trying to determine if access speed, returning records from queries is quicker if hosted in the cloud versus our current set up. FMP 12 Server Advanced running on a PC server. Solution runs beautifully in FMP on my Mac and through IWP in Safari on my Mac. Near instant responses. However, when I access IWP through IE on my PC it takes almost a minute per page to load. It seems to be having trouble with the images in my layout, but they are small (just custom buttons) and they don't seem to cache. The speed does not improve after initial loads. UPDATE: Actually, I tested removing the images and it did not help. The IWP login page even loads slow on the PC only?!? Any help would be appreciated. Launch date approaches.

Hi All. I have Filemaker Server 10 setup and running in our small office environment. There are 6 PCs running FMP 10 (one is advanced) and 3 more running FMP11. When I added the 3 FMP11 machines I installed the 30 day trial version while we made arangements to purchase the licensing. There were some delays in getting them so the 30 day trials ran out. When I did get the licenses I uninstalled the trials and installed the full version. 2 out of the three worked fine. The other is unable to see the database file on the server. I'm running FMP10 Server advanced on our internal network - it runs on a Vista Professional platform. Our firewall router has been configured to allow access from the internet to a database running on this server through IWP and also from an FMP client on remote computers. This has worked reliably for several years. After a recent Windows update, the web engine has gone into a sulk, and keeps stopping after two or three minutes. I went through a process of trying to move our backup directory; the current one is on the same volume as the live file. But, this might really be a problem with my understanding of hard links and remote container data. FMS12.03, Mac OS X Server 10.6.8. FMP client 12.01 (running on the server); live hosted file tested from FMPA client 12.03 running on Mac OS X 10.6.8. We are using FMS 12.03 on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8. I had some questions about using progressive backups that doesn't appear to be too closely addressed: in respect to Progressive Backups, how quickly do you have to realize, and respond, to a problem with you DB? As I understand it, you really only have (2 * Interval) minutes to respond to a problem with your database. If you wait longer than that to grab a copy of the backup file, then you will get a copy that contains the bad data or corrupted file structure. Hi. I am running the latest version of Filemaker Pro Server 12. Every few days the server keeps disconnecting clients. The can log back in again but is annoying for them. Then when I try to go and look at the admin tool it says this: HTTP Status 403 - FileMaker Server has encountered an error: Access to the specified resource () has been forbidden. If the Server Launch Page is not available, visit the FileMaker Website for more assistance. The only way to get back into the server admin is to restart the server, disconnecting all the users again! I am running the server on a Mac Mini Server running 10.8.2 Any help appreciated.

We have an issue where IWP users will periodically get the error "Database Unavailable" when trying to log in. If they keep trying the error goes away in < 30 seconds. I don't have a bunch of data points on which to build an accurate model, unfortunately, because it is intermittent, and because our IWP users aren't logging in on a very regular basis. This error doesn't come up for client users. Curiously, when this error happens and you clear the message, it drops you back to the 'Database Homepage' screen. Hi Guys, I've got a local machine, with FMServer 11 installed on it for testing. The thing is I use this machine as my development machine, so I have other programs on it that I use that are quite memory intensive. I'd like to prevent FMServer from starting up automatically if at all possible (like you can on a windows machine) - but have it available to startup on demand. LS, I had te reïnstall fms 12 again and so began the excersise of re-creating the schedules. I noticed with the installation a question of performing a clean install or importing settings. I didn't have these so, I recreated these and saved them for future use : ( in FMS : choose menu : save schedules and groups ). When I open this XML in oxygen ( xml editor ) the file an invalid xml file. Question : is this file usable and so the xml-files are indeed supposed to be garbled ? TIA Joost

I have a couple of errors on the server and I am new to Filemaker. Below are three errors that have reported in the event viewer, application logs. 1. File "Promissory Note.FP5" could not be opened: either allow FileMaker Server to host Single-User files or set the file to Multi-User in FileMaker Pro. 2. File "Receipts.fp5" could not be opened: maximum number of files already opened. 3. File "Credit Card Charges.FP5" could not be opened: a database with that name (or the same initial 31 characters) is already open; please rename one of the files. I am new to using FMS, and am trying to set it up on my home PC for testing purposes, etc. I have followed all the instructions on how to install, configure, etc., but not entirely sure how to get it onto the web - so I can remote access it without being on my network. On the LAN, it works fine, but I want to test remote connectivity, etc., - how do I go about doing this? I have read any posts I thought would be appropriate in this matter, but can't find any help! Previously I was hosting solutions using IWP, and had port forwarded my PC, etc. and had it working fine. Do I need to take similar steps here? Thanks!

Hi all, I have a FM Server Advanced 12 Win hosting a large CRM relational database. Since my company recently opened a new unit in a neighboring country I was asked to prepare a clone of the existing CRM for their use. I intend to run both CRM’s on my server and for this purpose I’ve changed the names of all localized database files. But all the rest (relationship names, Tables names, scripts etc.) will remain the same. Does anybody know if doing so I’m risking a possible interference between two CRM’s? The Filemaker Server 11 Admin Console refuses to show the file "FMServer_Sample.fp7" in its list of databases. If I change the name to let's say "FMServer_Sample_x.fp7" it does show it. Actually, any database that is renamed "FMServer_Sample.fp7"will not show up. How can this be fixed?

I believe I know the answer to this one, but for the benefit of my client, I'll post it anyway.... Uploaded a database to my FMSA 11 test server for him today, and of course, when he went to access it with Filemaker Go, he was able to see all the OTHER files on my test server. "Is there no way to set Filemaker Server up so that Filemaker Go users only see the one file they're supposed to?" Hmmm... I dunno... I only very rudimentarily know how to set it up so that regular Filemaker Network users only see selected files... Thoughts?

We are a summer camp and will be deploying Parent Accounts through IWP and would like to use port 591. The problem is I can't figure out how to configure Filemaker Server to listen on port 591. Port 80 is being used so it makes sense to use the alternate - but how?? The firewall is configured properly to port forward 591. We have no problem accessing the IWP database on the LAN using port 80 (haven't been able to test outside yet - as I stated above port 80 is in use) but when I change the port in the IP address to 591 - http://LAN.ip:591/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.html - nothing. Hi everybody! I manage a small network of 5 Mac running from OS X 10.4 to OS X 10.6. I have a solution FM Pro 5.5 (yes 5.5!) which files are resident on a OS X 10.4 PowerPC computer. This is the only PowerPC machine, the other 4 are Intel based. The solution is quite simple, a dozen or so of shared files, very light and very basic operations. The question: if I open a file as a host on the OS X 10.4 PowerPC computer the other 4 while trying to open remote the file they don't see any host! We are about to update our Advanced Server 11 to Advanced Server 12 on our OSX XServe. has anyone experienced any gotchas in doing this? We have about 40 databases being severed from this setup to both clients and IWP. Also interested in the process others have used during a migration such as this, for backlups and restore of previous version if the upgrade fails for some reason.

I'm attempting to install FMS 12 on Mountain Lion Server. I originally installed FMS 12.0.1 not realizing there was an issue with 12.0.1 and Web publishing. The install went ok with no errors but after the install CWP was running but was working properly. I did some digging and found out about the issues. So I followed the instructions to unistall fms 12.0.1 and then reinstall fms 12.0.2 fresh. However after uninstalling FMS 12.0.1 and rebooting the server I have a new problem. OK. I'm just about ready to install fm12 server. I have fm9 server running on an xp system for quite a while. Time for an upgrade. I understand that it needs windows 7 to run. I do not have a windows 7 machine so I have to purchase a new one. I'm asking for help in determing what computer to buy. Here's what I do with fm. We have FMS11 installed in a 2003 server under a local domain. We have installed FMP11 in 50 computers working remotelly from different locations. All of them are connecting fine except a group of 8 Win7 PCs that are connected through a local domain on a Windows 2008 server. They can see the list of Databases but when they want to open any of them it takes at least 30 minutes to just open it. Obviously, the navigation through it is impossible slow. We did connect from a PC out of the domain but in the same network and it worked fine. We are assuming that the problem is somewhere in the domain policies or configuration. We have an online shop selling bento boxes and other random things from Japan. Our current Filemaker server system (running on a custom built PC from an SSD, with backups made to another SSD for speed, then those backups are moved to a hard drive regularly) works exceedingly well and has given us a big speed increase over the old server we were running from. I was running 10.6.8, but after a server replacement I now have MacOS X 10.8.2 running. Everything seems to work. However a migrated shell script does not. As a TechNet member, I have downloaded the FMSA12 Development License for testing. I tried installing it on a new laptop I purchased for this purpose (8 GB Ram, 1TB disk, 3rd Gen Intel Core-i7-3630). When I started the install I got a "not compatible" message. I continued the install and when finished (no further messages) I didn't have access to the admin console. We want to show our custom login web page instead. Ok we have always rolled with IWP for a while now and it seems to have become so slow when we have more than 8 users on their so we need to explore alternatives. We upgraded our Windows Server running Windows Server 2003 R2 from FMS11 to 12 and PHP stopped working. All files with a.php extension yield a 404 error. We re-deployed several times. According to KB6538, the deployment wizard... None of those settings appeared: no ISAPI filter, no index.php in Documents tab, no .php mapping, and no Web Service Extension. Yet the deployment log says those changes succeeded. (log below) I did a little work to try to manually change those settings and decided I do not know IIS well enough. We are running machines A & B, one a Mac Mini, the other an iMac, both running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, both running FileMaker Pro 11.0v4. We have a number of databases which we use each day, and have used for years. They all live on machine A. Machine B accesses the files via Open Remote. We're receiving 'Admin Server Connection Error: The Admin console cannot establish a connection to the admin server' errors intermittently, after only a few minutes connection; initially we can log into admin console, and use it to open files, but then intermittently this error appears. Is there a way to structure script steps to tell the server to preform steps rather then the client. Specifically, I am exporting XML, but this script step runs from the client machine. The code that comes out of filemaker is... 1. Not human readable due to bad formatting 2. Has bad chars that are not recognized by the automated system that will receive the files 3. Needs to be exported to a different server for automated operations. Wondering about experiences developing with server running on same pc as fm pro when developing. Filmaker help says server not designed for this, but it seems to work fine for me. Doing a seperation model with ui in fm pro and four files running on server. Get share warning at ui startup but all works fine. Our old Power PC server crashed, so I installed fms9 on a 10.6 Intel box, and copied the Data folder over. At startup Admin server console wouldn't start. I checked the forums ansd followed advice to clear Java cache. That worked. Sort of. Now the conswole tries to start up but says "Database server not running."
