Hi. I am running the latest version of Filemaker Pro Server 12. Every few days the server keeps disconnecting clients. The can log back in again but is annoying for them. Then when I try to go and look at the admin tool it says this: HTTP Status 403 - FileMaker Server has encountered an error: Access to the specified resource () has been forbidden. If the Server Launch Page is not available, visit the FileMaker Website for more assistance. The only way to get back into the server admin is to restart the server, disconnecting all the users again! I am running the server on a Mac Mini Server running 10.8.2 Any help appreciated.

I am new to using FMS, and am trying to set it up on my home PC for testing purposes, etc. I have followed all the instructions on how to install, configure, etc., but not entirely sure how to get it onto the web - so I can remote access it without being on my network. On the LAN, it works fine, but I want to test remote connectivity, etc., - how do I go about doing this? I have read any posts I thought would be appropriate in this matter, but can't find any help! Previously I was hosting solutions using IWP, and had port forwarded my PC, etc. and had it working fine. Do I need to take similar steps here? Thanks!

  8. Hi all, I have a FM Server Advanced 12 Win hosting a large CRM relational database. Since my company recently opened a new unit in a neighboring country I was asked to prepare a clone of the existing CRM for their use. I intend to run both CRM’s on my server and for this purpose I’ve changed the names of all localized database files. But all the rest (relationship names, Tables names, scripts etc.) will remain the same. Does anybody know if doing so I’m risking a possible interference between two CRM’s? Is it possible that by mistake a script from one CRM, even if the files have different names, but the structure of files is exactly the same, ends in the other? Thanks for…

  9. The Filemaker Server 11 Admin Console refuses to show the file "FMServer_Sample.fp7" in its list of databases. If I change the name to let's say "FMServer_Sample_x.fp7" it does show it. Actually, any database that is renamed "FMServer_Sample.fp7"will not show up. How can this be fixed?

  10. I believe I know the answer to this one, but for the benefit of my client, I'll post it anyway.... Uploaded a database to my FMSA 11 test server for him today, and of course, when he went to access it with Filemaker Go, he was able to see all the OTHER files on my test server. "Is there no way to set Filemaker Server up so that Filemaker Go users only see the one file they're supposed to?" Hmmm... I dunno... I only very rudimentarily know how to set it up so that regular Filemaker Network users only see selected files... Thoughts?

  11. We are a summer camp and will be deploying Parent Accounts through IWP and would like to use port 591. The problem is I can't figure out how to configure Filemaker Server to listen on port 591. Port 80 is being used so it makes sense to use the alternate - but how?? The firewall is configured properly to port forward 591. We have no problem accessing the IWP database on the LAN using port 80 (haven't been able to test outside yet - as I stated above port 80 is in use) but when I change the port in the IP address to 591 - http://LAN.ip:591/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.html - nothing. I have searched but I can't find where to configure ports in Filemaker Server. H…

  18. We have an online shop selling bento boxes and other random things from Japan. Our current Filemaker server system (running on a custom built PC from an SSD, with backups made to another SSD for speed, then those backups are moved to a hard drive regularly) works exceedingly well and has given us a big speed increase over the old server we were running from. The only speed bottleneck is this: when we bring up a product that has sold a lot, usually 1000-10,000 copies, the calculation that must report the number in stock slows Filemaker down for the user, causing delays of a few seconds while the information is tallied. Some of these are download products so we don't need…

Or 32 bit vs 64 bit ? FM just says they are all supported, but does not seem to say if one is better than another. Is it necessary to recover files every few months with FMS12 to improve speed or deal with corrupted records? It appears there is still no provision for command line recovery or control. I've read through the specs and a few reviews but they did not seem to address these issues.

In Windows Server 2011 (64bit) the 64 bit connector will allow entry/configuration of DSNs, but as soon as s/o attempts to USE a database in which they're involved, the database server (only) crashes. In the same server, using a 32-bit connector also allows entry/configuration of DSNs, but in THAT case, we get the dreaded "Architecture Mismatch Error". In an upgrade of a 2003 Server (32-bit) we'd hoped to get rid of, the 32-bit installation of FMSAdv12, the 32-bit connector installs fine and allows entry/config of DSNs, but as with the 64…

Today a colleague of mine tried accessing the database from another wifi network outside of our office and homes but failed. Is there some way I can rectify this? The database in question is deployed with FileMaker Server 12 Advanced on a server computer in our organisation. We've been accessing it with FileMaker Pro and Go (both with iPads and iPhones) for a couple of months now without problem. We've only ever accessed it when we're in the office, or at home. They simply cannot load the new database as its moved location. I have successfully changed the DNS settings on the subdomain and have contacted my hosting company (1&1) to verify this. 60. Hi All - I have a scary issue at one of my clients. FileMaker Server 11.0.3.309 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit server with 32GB RAM. The problem is that FMS Admins Console will only allow me to set the Cache Flush distribution interval to 22:00. Any time I try to change it, it simply reverts back to 22:00. This is a scary thing as a LOT of data can entered in 22 hours and lost if it's not flushed to disk. The cache size was set to 500MB. I set it now to 40MB to minimize potential loss. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this? Is reinstalling FMS my best bet?

  67. We are currently setting up with an offsite disaster reocovery backup service and I am having some trouble figuring out the best way to include our Filemaker database. First off I am well aware that the offsite backup should not touch the live database. It will obviously be setup to pull a backup copy. The offsite does incrimental backup so it only pulls data that has changed from day to day. Our database is 17 gigs and growing. So due to the cost I would like to be able to take advantage of the incrimental capabilities of the offsite backup and I only want to backup the latest database backup. I setup a seperate filemaker backup schedule to only keep 1 day, but…

  68. Is it possible to have FM Server run a backup from a client script? This awesome thread seems to indicate that schedules can NOT be run on the Server from Pro (though scripts can). That would have been a nice solution. I'm wondering if there's another way to do it. I don't want to run a schedule every 5 minutes, checking a flag field, I need the backup to happen "on demand". I'd prefer a solution that was cross-platform or maybe two solutions one for Jobs and one for Gates. This is for FMSA 12 on OS X Server and FMS 12 on Windows 2008. Thanks, DJ

Just found this by Wim Decorte: What you have in mind won't work with just the native features of FM12: when you host a file, the path to its container data is always a subfolder of the folder where the FM file itself is. This answers my question below, but I will leave it here in the event someone else needs the answer. I think this may be a Server question so I will post it here. We purchased FMA12 and were super excited about the ability to store images outside the database. We put in a 3tb hd and called it Z: in my work station. We had our container images going to Z: and all was grand as the db was remaining small in size. We decided to g…

When the database server isn't running, memory usage is at about 11%. When I first start the Database server and all files are opened, the system is using about 19% memory. As soon as a FMS scheduled backup starts, that's when all hell breaks loose. The memory usage jumps up to around 80%. Even after the backup completed, the usage stays constant at 80% or higher, which is what is bothering me. We are trying to improve the performance of our Filemaker WAN performance and have identified several ways we might do this. Namely, • move the interface file to an FM server at the remote site • faster hardware • the design of the db itself • upgrade the FM server software to v12 (currently v10) • invest in a faster WAN So that we can measure the effects of these changes, our developer has written a simple latency measurement script into our main DB. The results so far are interesting, but I don't understand the difference between the read and write performance. The script writes some text into multiple fields, then reads it back, then cleans up. …
