FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad

I have done a lot of research and don't see a solution. What I want to do is send and existing record atttached as a PDF via email in Filemaker go to wherever. everything I read says I have to save the record as PDF first? Then create a file path to the specific record. But that will clutter up the IOS too much. Kinda like print to pdf with email attachment and name the pdf a value from a field. I know this is probably possible, but I can't get it to work. So I'm reaching out to you Genius' if there is a solution that just creates an email attachment of the current layout and current record as a pdf . Make sense? Thank you in advance for reading

When attempting to cancel the actually printing of document from a script, FMGo locked at the Dialog box Continue Script. Print was canceled. Do you wish to continue with this script? Wether I selected No or Yes, nothing happened and I was forced to cancel the current session. When I let the script actually print the comment, it ran to a good EOJ. Any Ideas?

I have found ways to do this from Filemaker in OSX but I can't seem to apply this to FMGo. I want to mail the current record as a PDF and to have the PDF name be derived from the value of a field (in this cas, the name of the client) Below is the script as it stands. Is this a possibility in FMGo? 1. Go to Layout [ layout name ] 2. Set Variable [$name ; Value: Patients::LastName ] 3. We have a solution that runs on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. When a user takes a picture with our solution it automatically grabs the users GPS coordinates. This works great on iPhone & iPad with GPS. On the iPod touch and iPads without GPS the process takes longer because it tries to use the wifi to determine location unless the user cancels by swiping. Does anyone know a way I can test via a function or script step to see if the device is an iPod Touch and then just not even run the location script?

Any time the user updates a field, or enters a new layout, I run a script. This works fine on FileMaker Pro and WebDirect, but the script triggers stopped triggering on Go. Not sure what is causing this, because they did work for a time. Buttons still work, but the requirements don't allow for the user to have to press a button every time they change the search parameters. Does anyone know what could be causing this behavior?

Hi, i thought i knew my ways around FM Go 14, but now when i accidentally typed the wrong IP for one of my hosting servers i CAN NOT find the way to edit it and change to the correct one. Is there a black hole in my mind not allowing me to see or is it really that obscure (i would imagine that it should be an easy casual task). Please notice that i am not talking about going to "Recent" tab and swiping the file, this is not what i am trying to do - i would like to edit the remote host from the list of hosts.

I am finding that the Webviewer acts differently on iPad, iPhone, and on OSX. Most notably, when you copy the Webviewer contents, and paste them into a field (for later parsing), the results are quite different depending on the platform. Are there setting I am missing? Working on an iPad solution and the client uses an iPad and also uses Square to take payments. I can launch the square app from FMGO using the URL "square-register://" Does anyone know if there are parameters where I can pass the charge amount into square via this URL? Are there any other solutions to accomplish this?

From what I read, this probably cannot be done. I would like to pass either an attachment or the contents of an email subject line to a Filemaker Go solution automatically. Easy to do with AppleScript and Filemaker, but I need a Go solution. I know you can manually "Open in Filemaker Go" with an attachment. Any ideas pointing me in a direction to research would be helpful. Thanks.

I have a layout in FM14 that uses a custom theme. There is a portal which displays as desired, with solid color background.. When I view the file in FM Go 14, the Portal Rows have a gradient background (see screen captures attached). If I use a theme that's included with FM there is no problem. Does anyone know deets about what causes this or how I can correct it? I can't find anything online about this and it's driving me crazy. I spent ages getting all my layouts looking the way I want them, and the thought of having to recreate all of them is disheartening to say the least. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am brand new to Go. I put my file in dropbox from my computer then opened dropbox on ipad and selected devices and 'download' and it says it put the file on my ipad. I downloaded FMGo and I can open FMGo but it does not show my file. It only shows template files. I have tried everything. Please help me get started. What do I do to copy my file into the filemaker directory so FMgo can see it? I cannot find files at all on ipad. I cannot find where it put my Fm file.

Hello I'm inserting photographs from the inbuilt iPad camera but regardless of my camera "location services" settings I don't seem to get and location metadata. Im trying to get Latitude and Longitude by using GetContainerAttribute ( image ; "Latitude" ) & GetContainerAttribute ( image ; "Longitude" ) Location services are working for the iPad as I can import an independently taken shot and get the coordinates. Any thoughts or other workarounds?

Hi Folks, I recently got a new 5K iMac and created a new solution that will mostly be used on the iPhone. When I transferred the solution over to my iPhone (6S) to check it out, IT'S TINY!!!. How can you do this now? is there a setting to blow up the size of the solution so it will end up being the right size on the iPhone? What/how do i do this? Thanks, Gary

I find that when I use FMGo, some recent data is lost if the database crashes. Is there a way to 'flush to disk' on IOS to prevent this from happening?

Hi, I am currently using FM Go 14 on iphone that uses a third party scanner add on. When using the iphone to create a new record using a simple button step, a record gets created, but it instantly jumps to the first record in that table. When I look on my PC, there is a blank record that the iphone has created. There are no script triggers on my layout, and the new record button works fine generating a record on the PC. Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have no idea what to do next! Many Thanks

I have a class attendance solution that I've been running with the help of FMGo 13 for some time. The solution uses a bluetooth barcode scanner and an iOS device to scan a student id and track attendance etc. The bluetooth connection to the iOS device has proven the weakest link in that it occasionally drops and requires re-pairing the device. While not rocket science to re-pair the scanner it's not ideal for the end user. With the advent of FMGo 14 one can now utilize the onboard iOS camera for scanning, however, I'm having difficulty creating a loop to keep the camera active. Hi there, We have have just switched all our container storage to external, and suddenly all containers on Filemaker go are no longer accessible. We use the container fields to collect and store customer signatures. But since we changed to secure external storage we just get the following error on FMG "Container cannot be modified" Has anyone else experienced this before? is there some issue with external storage an FMG compatibility? I have a solution I use primarily on a desktop which opens a browser to my inbox/gmail account that I use as my to do list. I have created and if statement that means this step doesn't take place on my ipad. We upgraded our server database to 13. Now we are losing data. We have 12 sites that use go to input data. When they return to the databae, it's gone. This never happened on 12. I'm so frustrated I'm about to dump FMP. Please someone throw me a line here =(

Hello i was wondering if anybody could help me , I have created a layout with work notes on it. I have written a script to find only records by name. this works fine see enclosed. There is a status field with two options available Follow Up and Completed. I wanted Follow up to only show. I selected status and sort records descending and this does what i want by putting follow up at the top. This would be fine but my problem is on my iphone. The same layout on my mac shows follow ups at the top , The layout on my iphone doesnt even show follow ups ?? only completed . Both on same layout any ideas ? ive tried everything thanks

I have a database that I use on ipad3 and iphone4 and 5 using FMGO14. My colleague is using it on a new iPad with FM14 and this new toolbar has shown up (highlighted in attached photo). Is this native to new iPads or FM14 and any ideas as to how I can get rid of it ?

hi its really frustrating to have this massive date picker pop up all the time when i put the cursor into date fields in FM Go 13. Its so big it covers some buttons that are next to the fields. any way of disabling this? Regards Ishaq

Ok another noob question: I have a small data base that i have created and want to be able to go around with my ipad and fill in the data, take pics and then get back to the office and have it synce with my original database, updating it with my most recent data. Is this possible threw itunes? I know I could pull the file back and forth threw itunes but can you sync it automaticly? Is there a better way? Thanks for your help.

Hi All, I created a calculation that resulted in a container image (see below). This is allows me to add/update images without doing anything in Filemaker. "imagemac:images/" & S_shot & ".png" This works perfectly on the my Mac, but doesn't work on FM go. The only way I could get the images to work in FM go was to import the images on a shot by shot basis. I imagine a script could be written to do this, but before doing so, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to make the calculation work. Any ideas?

Hi Folks, I'm having a bit of an issue with my hosted Filemaker Maker 12 Pro file. I just changed the host server to a new computer and got it up and running to share my filemaker file. I can access the remote file from other computers with Filemaker 12 installed no problem, but my Ipads with Filemaker Go on them cannot find the host, or the hosted file. I have attempted to add the Host by using the host IP address on the Filemaker Go 13 app (and even double check it was the correct IP by viewing the remote file on my laptop) but I still cannot get the Ipads/Filemaker Go to find the Host or the Hosted remote File. Is there a way to link PDF documents that reside in a container field to a PDF reader that is still accessible from the record it originated from? Right now in my cabinet shop we store CAD drawings in a container field and access the container fields from an iPad using Filemaker Go. Sometimes the guys will just glance at the contents of the container field and sometimes they need to print a hard copy out so they can cross things off with a hi-liter felt pen. I have created a webclip for iOS with a FMP Url with the format FMP://username:[email protected]/mydatabase.fmp12 I have the extended privilege set to: fmreauthenticate0 to make testing easy upon first launch, it works correctly. When I press the home button on the device.. I wait 10 seconds and then I launch from the URL/Webclip I am prompted for login credentials(This shouldnt be because I am passing the credentials in via the URL. If I press cancel as the login screen, it seems to work just continue as it should with the login credentials. I am getting some complaints and confusion from the users about it. How do I fix this?

Hi, We're trialling using Ipads to access our custom CRM system. The Database is hosted on a Filemaker server and we're working directly with it (4G or Wifi). Everyhting works well and I'm surprised how little effort it took to make some custom layouts and integrate. On the Ipad there are a couple of layouts where staff can do searches (e.g. Client list). As per our desktop layout, there is a "Find Mode" button to put FM into find mode, the query is entered, and then we get the result. This works fine when I log in as an Admin user (which I am). I'm having an issue with and offline sync setup that I created. I used the basic outline as described in the FM white paper for offline syncing. I'm using a transactional model for the whole sync process, so there is a final commit at the end if things don't throw an error. It is this final commit that is currently giving me problems. When this commit fires, all of the records that were created during the sync process are once again tagged as being 'modified', and so the modification timestamps are updating again. Hi all, I'm trying to do following: 1) FM Go performs a script on an open, "master" database (hosted on a Desktot computer with Mac OS X and Fm Pro 14 Adv) -> OK 2) the "master" database (always open and reachable) should open a second ".fmp12" file ("slave") which is in the same folder as the "master" file on the desktop computer -> NO Apparently the "Open File" script step when run by the "master" database but called from FM GO doesn't work (can't open the "slave" file). So I have quite a dilemma on my hands here. The company that I work for has not gotten their hands on my server yet due to the typical corporate ladder of asking for new stuff haha. But this actually puts me in a very tough spot. I'm using FileMaker Go version 12.0.8 for iPad to run a database created using FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced. After collecting several days worth of data and backing up daily with no problems, I suddenly lost a day's worth of data while attempting to transfer the data to my laptop via iTunes. I could see all of the data on the iPad, but after trying to save to the laptop, all of the most recent data I collected disappeared. It's as if the most recent data was never saved on the iPad and was lost during transfer to the laptop. I've seen a few unanswered and old threads about how to get total page count for a PDF on FMGo. Since the script step "Enter Preview Mode" is disabled is there another way to get the total page count of a PDF made in FMGo. Also, "Enter Preview Mode" is disabled on Server scripts as well. Hi, is there any best practice on how to work with remote Filemaker databases when they are offline? Carrier signal too weak, etc. I suppose the best bet would be to use the built-in functionality in Manage > External Data Sources and use the Filemaker format. But how can I check if the server is online? How to check if the data has safely landed? So I have a solution that utilizes PDFs via a portal. The solution works well on the desktop, but sometimes on FMGo 14 if you select the PDF to view it, the program crashes. Any hints or ideas as to why this may be happening?

Just a simple question if I may, can FM Go 14 on an ipad connect to a file hosted by Filemaker Pro 14 on a macbook via 3G? I'm unsure if Filemaker Server 14 is a necessity. Would my router need configuring for port forwarding as the ipad and macbook wouldn't be on the same local network?

I wonder if the storage for the images remains at the size of the original image taken by the iPad camera in spite of the replacement of that image by a much smaller thumbnail. From the isolated tests below ( with attached example db ) it looks like some of the storage in FMGo14 is recovered but not all, double what it should be. Also the overhead per container record appears to grow in a non linear manner on both FM OS X and FMGo14. Adding photos directly in FM on OS X appears to recover much of the storage that was not recovered in FMGo14. Unfortunately, only when another photo is added. Do folks have recommendation on setting up a system for creating regular, human readable and consumable, IDs with an offline/online-sync and hosted solution? The offline part of the solution allows full creation of new Orders. These Orders will (should? could?) have an OrderID will be visible to the customer and given to them on an invoice at the time of creation in the offline world. (The invoice is generated along with the order and will be emailed to the customer, so the OrderID will be there.) Because they are frequently in locations with no or poor reception, their solution is offline. They sync on demand when they have a connection and can select what they want to sync. My company is also one of those that doesn't like to buy anything. So I had to make my own solution to sync. When I try to connect to my file, it says "The file could not be opened; the host's capacity has been exceeded. Try again later." Problem is, I am the only user trying to connect. You can see from the screenshot that there are no users connected, so I shouldn't be reaching my capacity for connections. I downloaded a trial version of FMP14 and no matter what, I cannot connect with FMGO. I have tried inside of my LAN, through a VPN connection on my phone, and with port forwarding and public IP address over port 5003. I'm very frustrated. Sharing files on FMP12 Advanced just "worked" for me. What am I doing wrong?

Is it possible to serve a hosted FileMaker file from a copy of FileMaker Server running on a Mac, over usb only, to an iOS device running FileMaker Go? That means without WiFI, without 3G, without 4G, without LTE, no radio at all, radio silence. USB cable connection only. I have been using the App Maker tool for some time now, but always with hosted solutions, which works fine. When I try to create a webclip for a local database, when I try to open the webclip it gives an error.. Cannot Run Script Safari cannot run the script because JavaScript is not allowed to be used this way. I assume it's something to do with iOS 8 maybe, given the App Maker does only say it supports up to iOS7... but they haven't released an update yet.. Are there any other ways of doing this, or can I adjust the fields in the App Maker so it produces the correct JavaScript? Thanks in advance

I have a simple database being served out of FM Server 14. I now have 4 Ipads that collect a small amount of data in the field when NOT connected to the FM Server. When the Ipads return at the end of each day, I want to build a script that exports the new records to the FM Server I am struggling with this, because the export script step does not seem to allow "REMOTE" files as an option. And I don't see how I could tell the FM Server to import from the Ipads????

I have a script that downloads a filemaker database from a container of an hosted database. Since the file can be big, the download can take a few minutes on a slow connection. I would like to display a progress indicator so the user can estimate the time it will take. I currently only display a spinning animation but this does not indicate any progress. I thought that maybe the solution would be to use the web viewer component with some javascript to regularly check the size of the downloaded file. Anyone knows if it's possible and how to do it (on FM GO) ?

Hi there, Just thought I'd share something I posted about over at community.filemaker.com in response to a question there... The issue was that FMGo 14 was displaying a very 'jumpy' UI when switching between List view layout and a Form view layout. The list view in particular shows a lot more visual glitches than was ever the case in FMGo 13... What I've found though is that using the new Top and Bottom Navigation layout parts (rather than Head and Footer parts) for both the list view view and the form view layouts that are navigated between, results in a much smoother transition between the two. Is anyone else having issues with layouts and rendering in filemaker go 14 from fmp 14? text box content is so out of whack it is ridicoulous (aligns to the very top of the box or dissapears above it altogether) yet it renders prefect on fmgo 13 I have fiddled with the padding etc settings but it just doesnt make a rats difference. I have completed the setup of a Filemaker kiosk system on an iPad, and it's printing nicely via Wifi to a Brother label printer — but I am unable to prevent the dialog box from showing up on the iPads. In the script steps both the Page Setup and the Print steps have the dialog box disabled. Any ideas? Is this a known issue? How can I prevent the dialog boxes from showing up on the iPad kiosk? Hi I have created a script that will evoke a Dialog box and also using the beep script. So far under testing the Dialog box is only appearing if I remain in Filemaker Go 14. If I am reading an email in Mail the user will not get a notification pop up. I have seen script steps to Mail something or with the iPhone to call someone. Where are the scripts that connect to other Apple app like creating events in Calendar and reminders in Reminders All iOS 8. They must be somewhere, I must be looking in the wrong place. Thanks

So I have barcode scanning up and running.. but if I scan a barcode can it bring up a record on the host computer? ie scan the product of an item on my iphone and then the FM database on my computer will bring up the record for that item ? Thanks

I have a need to save a series of photos directly to the camera roll. I'm familiar with Export Field Contents, but not on iOS, and I can't seem to find much documentation on iOS pathing. Is it possible to save a photo directly to the Camera Roll and bypass the FileMaker documents folder? Thanks, Ryan

curious if anyone has any clever way when the user click a button to take a photo that it will prevent a photo being taken in portrait orientation. - perhaps a message to rotate.

Our Go operators enter data on a Go layout with several fields and the tab order moves the operator on from field to field. The last field in the layout's tab order is a pull down menu field and has an on modified triggered script that simply commits the record. The idea is that when that last field is modified the record should commit, dropping the pull down menu and allowing the operator to look at the whole record with no keyboard blocking the view before she moves on to the next record/tasks. Instead though the tab order seems to take over and just moves the focus back to the first field in the tab order, also a drop down menu. This causes that pull down to appear…

I am using FM Go to collect forms with signatures, which we use "Insert PDF" in a script to put into a container field. That has been working great with FM Go 12. On the desktop side, we have a layout where the user can look at the PDF file in a container field (set up for interactive content). Since the move to FM Go 13, any PDF created by an iPad running 13, cannot be previewed on the desktop. The error we get during preview is "Adobe Reader - File does not begin with '%PDF-'. LocalEWH-6136-10". It should be noted that if we export the contents to an external file, the PDF is fine and it can be opened and read by Adobe Reader. It just doesn't work in the preview. …

Hi all, Is there any way to launch a kiosk mode video from FM Go? I have a customer who has iPads in his shop for the public to search product information ( it's a very simple catalog). I have a peculiar and unanticipated problem involving Container field behavior in Go. The situation is that I have an Artwork database being used on a laptop computer. There's a table for Artists and the layout includes a Container field for a picture of the Artist. These images are being stored (embedded) in the database. For the Child table of Artworks, I am using External Storage for a picture of the Artwork, since these image files are much larger and more numerous. All good. I have a 10mb movie stored in a container. In pro advanced the movie plays automatically as expected. In Go, I cannot even get the movie to play at all. Is this supported in Go? Thanks, Drew

I have one desktop application that does more than I want to show or allow on iphone or ipad process used remotely. I tried Get (application) but when logging in using my iphone... shows still desktop layouts. I want to start the app the same.. but go in a different direction than the desktop, or the Ipad... do specfic and less.. that that works I understand I can set a different layout templates to use for these devices... for some reason I haven't found the answer ,, need more info thkx Rod

I am looking to purchase a new iPad for me since I may want to give my older iPad3 as a Christmas gift. I'm looking at new iPad Air and iPad Mini. I don't use the iPad often - mostly only for testing FMGo and accessing my Developer files or quick responses on the forums. I have an Apple wireless keyboard so the keyboard size on the iPad doesn't matter to me (not that I've used the keyboard much anyway). What matters is testing and designing for the iPad. Does it matter which I purchase? Recommendations appreciated. :-)

I have been chasing down an issue all day and thought to post this in case someone else experienced the same. We have a set of files that are downloaded to the iPad from a hosted file on FMS13. These files reference each other and the hosted file via external data sources. It seems (and this doesn't seem to be the case with FMS12) that I must first define the Host in FMGo before those files can "see" the hosted files. Import scripts, by the way, use a $$path and that is what seemed to fail, until I added the Host definition. Not sure where to put these questions. They are mostly about hardware. I know nothing about computer hardware. I want to add a half dozen iPads to my cabinet shop floor that will run Filemaker Go that is served from a shared web host. We will be running task management lists and accessing PDF drawings etc. This will all be done on Wi-fi. All of the iPads will within 100 feet of the router. There are a lot of large machines within the shop if that makes any difference for reception. 1) What level of iPad do I need to buy for this? I have a table of pictures related to jobs, and currently I have a layout where my users add a record and they insert a picture into the container field. This works fine, but the process is slow, as they must add each picture one at a time. Is there a way to do a multi-select of pictures from the Camera Roll to add multiple pictures at once?

My plan is to distribute a first .mobileconfig file (profile with a web clip icon) that points to an online database that will load the full database on the device . I then would like to open a second mobile config for the full database icon. Basically a first icon to download and install and the second for the actual product. I could include the 2 shortcuts in the same profile but I would like to install the icons sequentially to avoid confusing the user right at the beginning. The problem I have is that I can not open the config file. If I use the open url it simply won't work (if I open the url manually in safari it's working ) Any I dea ? Thanks

The missing is file is on my server. I link to it in the relationship area for syncing. It is only used when I sync the data. It is not called until the actual sync script is called. Any thoughts on how I can prevent this? Don't want the user to see this error? Thanks Thom

I tried export field contents via script on a container field that had a sound file in it. recorded it with my phone. in the script I set the export to the container field. added error trap after the export script step. i ran this on my iPhone 5 and was greeted by the save or email prompt. i chose save. No error was detected by the script. Where did the audio file go? TIA Kris

I am pretty sure this is a known bug in FMGo 13, however, I was wondering if anyone might have a work around. I am having an issue with list view in a simple FMGo 13 program. Basically after about 20 or so records the input field of a new record disappears. Scrolling the screen will almost always bring it back. The program is pretty simple, 3 tables, 2 input fields scan and qty. I made the program to help take our physical inventory. The user is only interacting with the "scan" table. I have created a pretty simple solution that is to be deployed to a single iPad, in Kiosk mode. I have done this before, and never had any issues, but with this file for some reason it doesn't let me save any data. For example, I will edit a record that was in there before moving it to iPad, and when I close the record and re-open it has been reverted. Additionally, creating new records leaves a ? in each field, and when I close the file and re-open it, then none of the new records are there. I have a solution on the iPad using FMGo13 and the user likes to let the iPad sleep without logging out. When the iPad wakes up I have experienced weird problems from, records not saving, data entry not allowed, not being able to connect to host even though the network and the host show they are available. If you restart the iPad the problem is solved and everything works perfectly, only seems to happen after the iPad sleeps Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what the solution was

Hi, On iOS, i am trying to open the .pdf file stored inside the container field. The variable $path is created using "Get ( TemporaryPath)"... and than i use "Export Field Contents" with option to open file automatically. This works great on FM Client device and opens the PDF file stored inside the container field as expected. On iOS device with FileMaker Go 13 it gives a 404 Error - "File could not be found". Why?

I have recently setup a Brother QL-710W printer for making labels from Filemaker Go, but have run into a strange page setup problem. It is a label printer that is AirPrint enabled, which allows printing from iOS devices. The printer seems to be working fine, but I have a strange problem when printing the same layout from FM Go (on an iPhone), whereas it is fine using FM Pro. The problem seems to be that the FM Go inappropriately rotates the page from landscape to portrait causing the page to get truncated. Â The popup boxes for the new manufacturer, modality and model are displaying data from another filemaker file that I have external access to. I am handling task management for my cabinet shop with Filemaker Go on an i-Pad. The CAD drawings are created as PDF documents then downloaded from Dropbox and inserted into a container field. The container field is part of a database that establishes priorities, assigns projects, monitors status etc. I like the simplicity of keeping all this information in one location but I find the functionality of the PDF to be somewhat limited when just stored in the container field. Hi All, I have a designed a small solution for my business that works great for my needs....is just for a single user, pretty simple. I was thinking on buying an iphone and being able enter data on the go using this tool (after modifying my layouts / scripts, etc). My question is: My First option would be to have both files (iphone / Pc) synchronized...is there any limitation on the amount of records Filemaker Go / iphone can handle ? Most likely a better option would be to get FMS and enter data directly on the server. Thing is, I know nothing about FMS and I'm not always online.... Thank in advance for your help.

Hello: I have a Filemaker Go application that I'm creating on an iPad Air. I'm also using a wireless keyboard for data entry. I'm sure this is one of those head banging situations BUT I can't seem to tab from a field to a button. The button is set in the Tab Order on the layout but it appears to be ignoring that setting completely. I thought that I could possibly trap for the tab key from the data entry field and then use Goto Object to get to the button but that doesn't seem to be working either. Am I missing something here???
