Apparently 3 days ago all my web viewers stopped working. They won't even load so much as Google now. Regular browser windows work just fine but not web viewers in FileMaker. They get about 40% loaded and then stall. It is happening whether the file is hosted or not, and I've tried various files including creating a new one. I'm using FileMaker 15. Anybody ever see this behavior or have any ideas? EDITED TO ADD: I have verified that this is only happening with FileMaker 15. FileMaker 14 displays all web viewers just fine.

I created a database to track permits by building. Each permit type is stored in its own table. The only link between tables is the Building Name which is the physical location where the permit exists. I know this is "out there", but I must be muffing the search criteria so my apologies for this being covered elsewhere. I have two related files (by StudentID number), Application and Student Database. Ok here is my problem. I have created a summary report that pulls together weekly reports for projects under a specific office of work. SO each report generated could be specific to a set area. In the report layout i set it up with a title header for the cover sheet, a sub summary section which shows each sub- group, a sub summary section that has all the project specific text and report, and then the body which has pictures and captions for the project. HELP! I am trying to get my FM layout to have a self aware object. The object is named appropriately and the object (For example, a portal) would then use the name to filter with some form of get(name) method. Can this be done? In theory i want singular row portals with the name "Portal 1" to be copy an pasted. When pasting FM will automatically name this "Portal 2" (3,4,5,6 and so on). The filter will then use a "RightValue(Get(Name))" to filter down on this number. CAN THIS BE DONE? I am racking my brains trying to figure a way of doing this and making this layout dynamic >_<

This breaks in 14.0v6 OS 10.11.5 but works when I open it in 15. So this is just a 'heads up' for folks still in version 14 who might use button bars with Hide and popovers. I have a two-button button bar where one button will hide depending upon Type. I provide a 'X close' on the popover for User convenience but when the User switches records, the cursor remains on the button so it does NOT hide and displays both buttons. It only does this if I use a 'X close' popover. I believe my only option is, if I plan to hide a button on a button bar AND provide a 'X close popover' then I will need to script closing the popover so I can include another action such as…

This is getting frustrating: About ten percent of the time I open a file, all of the layouts are displaying in a font named [email protected] or, less commonly, [email protected]. If I close and reopen the file a number of times, the problem will sometimes self-correct and show the normal fonts (I only use Arial, Calibri, and Times New Roman), but sometimes I have to go through every layout and reset the fonts. This only happens to my FMP 15 files - no other programs have been affected. I have attached a screen shot for clarification. Any ideas? Thanks, Guy Weird font example.pdf

I'm working on a timesheet solution where the user selects the "Role" that they're performing from a preset list of values, and then I want to populate a list of possible values for their "Task" based on their role. Role table includes a field called Billing Category (with 5 possible options). Task table also includes a field called Billing Category. I believe some of the functionality of creating value lists in Filemaker is broken when you want to display values from a second field for a relational database when using Value list subsets created by a case statement. I have a major table that I'm trying to integrate into a drop down menu option - get values from field but I need some help with this... I am building a customer database. The database will have a primary key. I am looking to make the primary key either a unique integer or a UUID (with 32 chars). The UUID appeals to me due to its ability to sync tables. I'm using a field-based value list in conjunction with a filtered portal based on a relationship. The filtered portal seems to be working fine. However, "1" and "0" are showing in the value list though neither of those values are in any records. Issue #2 is that unless I include "IsEmpty (fieldname)" in the calculation field used in the relationship, all my portal fields have to contain data or the record doesn't show in the portal. In other filtered portals, I've never added "IsEmpty" to the calculation field and records have shown in the the portal regardless of empty values (see yellow highlight in screenshot). Environment: FM13 with FM13 Server, mix of Windows 7 and 10. Is there a way to set a script trigger on if this portal row is new? IE, a script to run if this new child/portal record is new. We have a parent record, and portal to Children records. The children records have 2 fields: Profile Name and Process type. I need to build a table that totals the weight for a tunnel by the hour. 10 possible tunnels by 12 hours, columns any date. I can do it by filtered portals then loop through and total the weight, but that is 120 portals and scripting. Does anyone have a better suggestion? This data is drawn from an ODBC linked product database. I first do a find for the date then use the portals to filter by the tunnel and hour, then use a script to loop through and total the weights.

I'm setting a webviewer with URLs from a separate field. It works fine for most URLs, however, YouTube URLs and Vimeo URLs aren't rendering, nothing shows in the webviewer. Videos play fine if part of a page like http://cnn.com. I have the webviewer in a popover. Nearly everyone knows how to use a web viewer to display a map of an address; especially when the option is built right into the web viewer. (At least in FM10.) Recently, I found a trick to put custom HTML code into the web viewer's url, to dynamically handle your solution's content. (See here and here.) I have a user (only one currently) that is getting portal artifacts. Lets say they have 5 portal records. When they click in one of the fields and change a value, then all the values in that column change. But when they click on the new record at the bottom it goes back to the correct values. I have a Value List with names of our "partners" (each name on separate line). I have a database with a "name" field. I'm just trying to setup a script to run and check if the "name" matches a names on the "partners" value list. But, no matter what I try, it never comes back as "true." Any advise? Hi all, I am trying to "insert from device" a picture into a container field that is inside a slider. There are 8 repetitions of that container used to store photos. I don't want to go through the filemaker go insert menu because i want to restrict the size of the pictures taken on a mobile device to medium. I am new to using the Label layouts. I hoped it would make it easier, but at the moment I feel like I am missing out on certain functionality. I wanted to be able to print either 1 label.. or a series of labels in a found set..(List format) Or mainly, say I want 100 labels on one page of the same record. Looking for a way to manage/restrict access to the "Modify Table View" option. Currently, AFAIK, if Table View is enabled for a given layout, any user who has access to that layout can modify the table view. To me, this seems like sort of a bug. I.E., if I have a privilege set that that restricts layout modification, but Table View is enabled, a user can still modify that layout while in Table View. Is that correct? I don't often give users access to Table View, but in this case I have report-style layouts that are set up in Table View for admins so that they can manipulate "columns" on the fly in order to generate custom reports on their own (a la Excel). Hello, I have a centered text field (actually a merge field <<name>>) and would like to add an image right after the name but only for certain situations. The objective is to show an icon after a name if that person is new. I can add an image to the layout and do a "Hide Object When", but that makes the image location static. I tried creating a container field and then merging the two, but it doesn't show the image in the container field (ie. <<name>><<main::image>>). I have a layout that crashes every time we try to open it, but only the first time of the day. If we open it once and allow it to crash, then open Filemaker again, usually on either the second or third try, the layout opens fine, and works well the rest of the day, unless we shut down FM and restart. This seems VERY odd to me - any ideas? Don't really have any idea where to begin to troubleshoot this one. I do get error messages on windows event viewer - but I cannot decipher the language. I'm using a web viewer to show HTML code showing text from the database held in a field or a variable. The text shows successfully but the text itself appears wider than the web viewer so I have to scroll from left to right within the web viewer in order to see all the text. Is there a way to set the pixel width of the text so that I don't have to scroll within the web viewer? Many thanks.

I have a table named transactions with a field named ipn_status. The status can be either "Verified" or "Invalid". I'd like to make separate table occurrences that will display only Verified or Invalid records. In the past I would do this by creating a global field in the table called something like relVerified, and I would just put the value "Verified" inside this field. Then I could create a new table occurrence of the same transactions table, and I could setup the relationship like transactions::ipn_status = transactions::relVerified. This would get me what I want. I am trying to create an option for dialogue to show up for users based on input they have provided. Rather than using up space for a merge paragraph on the page of the layout, it would be nice if they could click the help button and show the custom information related to each question based on their own input. I've created a FM developer project that outputs an XML file that gets used by a Flash Project. The flash project is published as 'ataf.swf' file which is embedded in a local html web page named 'ataf.html' ataf.swf and ataf.html are in the same directory as the Filemaker project. Everything works fine, however I want this local web page to appear on a layout in the Filemaker project itself (using a web viewer portal), so the user can test if the xml export was a success directly from Filemaker (without opening up a browser). I have a layout that is being designed for use on an iPad, and have a value list for a record type. For a desktop implementation, I would use radio boxes to choose the value. However, they are too small for what I need for the iPad. I would like to create a button that acts like a radio box, most likely based on scripting, however my attempts at doing so with SetField have not worked. Hi Does anyone know a function which will convert all fields on a layout belonging to a different table to the same-named fields in the native table? For instance, a set of 6 Address fields. The first image below shows fields copied from a layout of Table X and pasted into a layout of Table Y. A client of mine is a courier. they want an estimate of the travel time between a client location and a courier (using a mobile phone that regularly uploads gps co-ords to a filemaker table). Courier may be on a bicycle or in a car. The desire is to prioritize dispatching to people who are in a time-based vicinity of the client. Hello, Can anyone point me in the direction to learn how to post images of my inventory items in Flickr and have them appear on my layouts and Filemaker 13? Just upgraded to Filemaker 14 from 11. Windows users insist that they used to be able to copy text from a website or email and paste it into a field and the field would impose it's attributes on the text. So for example a blue coloured and underline email address would become black text with now underlining. They say this 'feature' has disappeared in FM 14 and now the text retains the formatting from the source. Here's what I have so far: 1. Value list of all monsters names 2. Table (monster table) with a record for each monster. Each record contains a variety of fields (monster name (drop down of value list), armor, hp's, attacks, speed, etc., etc.,) 3. Table (encounter table) with a record for each encounter I want to run. Is it possible to randomly insert a row in a portal at any point, including between two populated rows? For example, I am working on a recipe database and have created a one to many relationship between the ingredients used in a recipe and ingredients (inventory ultimately). Let's say I have all of my ingredients entered and I discover I forgot to enter something and I want to enter the new ingredient between two other populated rows. I would like to create a button to insert a new row above the row the cursur is current located. Is this possible? Also, can I physically drag and drop a row to a different order in the portal? I am showing a layout in Preview prior to printing. However once one this layout (in Preview mode) I can not figure out a way for the user to actually print it. 1. I have set the Available Menu Commands to Editing, as I do not want the users to accidentally delete all records. However this greys out the Print and Save as PDF options. This also seems to remove the ability to select File > Print. 2. Additionally because I am in Preview mode I can not add any buttons to the layout without having them appear on the print out. Hi! Sorry a bit new to this still, but I have one table which contains several variables: DateOfConsult and ConsultType (InPatient or OutPatient). I have a layout for data entry in Form View and second layout in a List View. In the List View, I wanted to create a dropdown menu showing the DateOfConsult and the list will show all the people who consulted for that day. For the value list I have two objectives: 1. I use a filtered portal to display a subset of content from a table. Everything works fine and when I click on a portal entry, I have no problem fetching the corresponding table entry ID and then displaying related content from the specific entry. All that is good. The problem is that I have a script that needs to get the ID for the first entry in the current results. I've tried different ways, but none will return that first ID ... even though I "go to object" ... first the portal name and then the field name. Usually the ID that's returned is the first for the table, as if the portal filter is being ignored. I certainly don't want to build in a duplicate F…

Hello, I want to create a script trigger which opens a layout based on account name ,create new record and put cursor in first field of the new record Now, I was able to direct user to specific layout and also created new record using New Record/Request function but somehow it doesn't put cursor in the first field , instead it selects whole record . Note: I also have script triggers attached to first and second field which runs on exiting the fields. (I don't think they affect anyways , but just mentioned to give idea)

Anyone had experience using the FM client under Windows 2012R2? I have tried 14 and now 15 (both advanced) under 2012R2 and shortly after launch, the interface always begins to bog down very badly (within 5-10 minutes typically). Popovers open painfully slow (5-8 seconds), button clicks take forever to register, flipping records is chore and even just tying in a field to laborius. Basically anything involving the interface being updated is almost unusable. Searches though are as quick as usual after the pain of getting through the interface is over. Is this a known issue (haven't found any evidence of this) or has anyone else seen this behavior? Thanks …

Hi, I am trying to print a layout which has a webviewer on it. However, when printing/previewing the layout, the complete content of the webviewer is not displayed on the print out - I just send part of the content and then the web viewer scroll bar - which is no good. Hi All, I am trying to filter a portal using case to display records matching only one condition (the first it match going down), but it looks like the filter is taking into consideration all the options and displaying related records that match any of the conditions. EG: Case ( newA = oldA ; 1 ; newB = oldB ; 1 ; newC = oldC ; 1 ; newD = oldD ; 1 ; 0) I thought the filter would work by only showing me the records that matched the first matched condition, but instead it's showing records that match any of the conditions. Hello everyone, My company uses File Maker to keep a record of customers' addresses. When looking at a given customer, I would like to be able to copy the whole address block (as displayed on screen) to be able to paste it somewhere else (for instance, in an email, or on a Word document). You can't do this from the layout for data entry, but we have another layout showing the address block as a succession of merge fields (see screen shot). Hello everyone, Really excited with everything I have learned recently about FM. But I think I hit a brick wall. I'm building a database for a private book library, and I got to the Author field, which turned out to be slightly more complex than I expected. Most books only have one Author, but there are quite a few with two or more Authors. And some of those are collaborators, not necessarily Authors, but I still want to mention them and their roles. Really complicated (or at least I think it is). So, I understand that the best way is to have a single Table for Authors, where I will enter everyone, either they are main Authors, Co-Authors, Illustrators, etc…

Hi, I'm having some difficulties with my invoice-system. When having multiple pages on print, I want to have my Trailing Grand Summary on a fixed spot. (not trailing) Is there a possibility to have this result? If I would place my fields in the footer, they will show on every page, what is not the intention. Good evening everybody, I am creating an invoice system with 2 tables: the 1st one contains the product lines that are sold and the 2nd one includes the invoices. Both tables are related. Anyway, I created a layout to print the invoices that has a header for each invoice, a portal where are shown only associated products with each one and footer with the final amount (with VAT included and not). The problem is that some of those invoices have more than 30 sold products and I don´t get to do a layout that allows printing it in multiple sheets keeping the header and footer. I want to be able to create a popover that when pressing a specific key it exits to a certain script. This is in a layout where a part is looked up. A variable has been create with the following Set variable [$Gnumber;Value:""] which then displays in a popover which I want the user to enter the number and then press a certain key (like F8 or F9) which then runs a script that assigns that variable to perform a find in the database. My issue is how do I test for certain keystrokes in an easy way, what codes are assigned to function keys or even the enter key? Thanks Paul

Hi, I have a database of music tracks. Each record has a container field which points to an mp3. I just upgraded from Filemaker Pro 12 to FMP15, and now when I play audio in Filemaker, I can no longer see the progress bar. The only options that I get are Play/Pause and go-back-30-secs. I need to see the progress bar for my mp3s so that I can jump to the middle of an mp3 quickly. Has anyone found any workarounds or plugins that will show progress bars for container fields with audio ? (Mp3 quicktime?) Thank you so much in advance!!

I am working with an existing database file and I am getting reacquainted with filemaker pro after being out of it for the 10 years. I am new so please be patient. I am trying to figure out how populate a filed based on a conditional value. I may not be stating this correctly so I will explain. I have created two databases one called "committees" and one called "committee membership". I have a value list that includes the "Personnel::UID" of all managers in my personnel table. (Determined through a self-related table where "Personnel::Manager" = "PersonnelSelf_Managers::UID". I included a screenshot of the relationship.) I had once seen someone, someplace, attempt to explain what I am asking, but it didn't register with me at the time, and I have not found it since. I have data I want to view in a portal such that records 1 through 3 are across the first portal row, then records 4 through 6 are in the second row, etc. I realize I could probably do something with the related records that would get their sequential number, divide by three and then set it up so the first row would display data from two tables away, but FileMaker says to avoid this. Hello FM Mavens, I have an encounter database with a main table that is related to a "clients" table which is related to an "encounters" table. The main table has a portal that displays the clients sorted by the date by which they were last seen. It displays their name, etc, from the "clients table", but in the same portal row I would also like to display the "type of encounter" from the last encounter they had, which is a text field in the "encounters" table. I'm new to Filemaker so excuse my naiveness (although I have programmed in other languages). I have 2 tables that are related in Filemaker and essentially on the form I only want fields from the second table to show on screen or be unhighlighted if the record in the first table is found. I have created Portal inside this layout, with the current table of master categories. I've then the created a second table occurrence and relating the table to itself via the ID field. The idea is that in the Portal is should list all the categories Field in the current table, but it only lists whichever one is currently open in the record, in other word its not worked. A lot of my fields are filled with content pasted from websites. In FM11, I never had this problem, but FM12 paste's the font, color, and blue text links. Is there anyway to change it so it pastes just plain text? Thanks!

Hi, Not sure if this is the right forum ... I have a client who needs to edit a form letter every now and then. Though I've placed this form letter on the layout itself with merge fields which work great when we print this layout ... however, the form letter is not editable. I've watched Michael Rocharde blog on "YouTube" how he creates this letter by typing into a field and then he inserts these merge fields by clicking on a button . In most cases these forms are controlled documents. So, for instance, we have an official "Product Approval" form in Filemaker.
