My office has 3 Macs using 10.7 and 10.8, and FM 12, one is a laptop that does work locally and remotely, the others stay in the office. We currently pay $29 to have 2 DB's hosted on an internet based site. I would like to have about 6-8 DB's hosted, but I believe at that point it would be better to have them hosted locally. I know Pro will handle up to 5 connections so I've been avoiding buying Server. The DB's are quite small, one is 33 MB, and the others are of a trivial size, used for printing forms and labels, and keeping checkbooks. I would like to be able to access all of them from inside and outside the office without having to pay a hosting company a lot of …

I have 2 scripts in my database that are named identical, just not in CASE.  i setup a server side script schedule and select the 2nd script to run.  but the server runs the first script instead with the same exact name.  I swear this worked 100% perfectly in FMS 12. i just updated to FMS 13 yesterday.  i can prove it by simply in the 2 scripts doing a:  go to layout (LayoutName) delete all records create new record  but in the 2nd script , do the create new record 3 times.  i then select the 2nd script in the script list and it runs the first script instead.  you can tell in the attached script i am selecting script named "IMPORT Adsem B…

Our IT security assessment team found critical vulnerabilities with the version of php (5.3.8) we are running and recommend we upgrade to the latest version php 5.5.10. We are running on Windows 7 Professional with a one-machine deployment. My question is what is the easiest way to update php to the latest version without reinstalling FMS12. When we originally installed FMS12 we let the install take care of loading php.

I have installed FIleMaker Server and everything is working fine when devices are connect to the same network as the FM Server. My issue is that when I take a device, iPad or iPhone, off the network I am no longer able to connect to the server. I cannot figure out where to move from to here to get the devices connected to the server. I apologize for being a novice in this subject. This is my first experience with installing a server. Thank you for your help.

Hi, I just create an application that connects to server remotely. However, when I bring my application to the place where the server server resides, the connection is slow. Because the data from the application has to connect to the server from outside than travel back inside. The data also travel through the firewall. Is there a way in filemaker to auto detect the i.p. whether the server is near your computer locally or outside? Thanks. K.C.

We have 80+ iPads using the FileMakerGo app. I've created a table that includes three different layouts. All layouts include the field Employee Name. Employee name = Get(AccountName) I've also created a Privilege Set for users that limits the records they see to records created by their user name. Custom Record Privileges -> View -> Specify Calculation -> EmployeeName=Get(AccountName) Now the user is only able to see data created by their user account and all other documents still show but they have <No Access> in all editable fields. I want users to only have to scroll through their own, viewable, documents. In order to do this I believ…

I brought this question up in Friday night chat: What happens to a new and open/uncommitted record when a server side script exceeds it's time limit? To clarify: I'm referring to a script that is configured to run with a specified time limit, as defined in the Server Admin Console. And to be specific: I have a script that creates thousands of records in a single transaction. It creates the records in a portal and does not commit until the end of the script. When I validated the primary key as unique for the table that just had thousands of records created, it could take ~30 minutes to complete the commit record step. Since the script was only allowed to run fo…

Does anyone have any tips for renaming fields that are connected through ESS? According to the ESS tech brief, it seems like this should be possible without an issue: So if I'm just renaming the field, the unique key should remain the same, right? When I tried it and synced the tables again, the old field was changed to type "Unknown" and the new name was added as a separate field? Is there any nice way to do this and keep field linkings in scripts and layouts? (Details: The files are hosted by FMS13 on Mac, connected through ActualODBC to MySQL)

Having a new problem with setting up FMServer 12. Whenever I turn on the SSL-redirect on the web server (using Server.app - i.e. all HTTP traffic goes to HTTPS) the CWP/PHP test breaks. Turn it off, it works fine. Turn it on, it breaks. PHP/CWP Test is arrived at from the FMS Admin Console 'Technology Test' page: localhost:16000/test. It can be opened using the button on the Admin Console, too. Somewhat curiously, the IWP test works fine under either condition: IWP Home page also loads correctly after logging out. Any ideas what is going on with the SSL to cause it to break? Seems like it might be a configuration issue with the web server, but we have …

First off I really like FM13, the features are great and WebDirect does a great job when compared to IWP. However the new pricing model is not easy to swallow for solutions already using IWP and FMGo to any significant extent and I kind of feel screwed over on my maintenance contract. Our FMSA12 licenses got converted to FMS13 with 25 concurrent Go / WebDirect connections. This is unhelpful when we have one solution currently running around 55 concurrent FMGo and IWP connections at peak. 'Plan ahead for software upgrades by locking in today's price for tomorrows technology' is how FileMaker describe the benefits of their maintenance agreements in the blurb. …

I am having some trouble with the web server after installing FMS 12.0.5. This is on Mac OS X 10.8.5. Server.app is currently installed, but it was not present at the initial installation of FMS (if that matters). I can't verify that this was working before Server.app did get installed. I also wasn't the one executing the initial installation of the OS, the OS patches, or FMS. This was a fresh OS install and thus a fresh FMS install as well. Reinstalling is an option, but would rather avoid it if there is some simple configuration issue that I need to clear up. I have tried an 'edit deployment' process, but that didn't fix anything. The primary issue is that…

I have one server still on server 9. If I'm on a workstation I can open a remote file and see all the files on the server and open them. However, when I log into the admin console and look at databases, it says 0 and doesn't show any. In the database directory, all my files are still there. Even the backups stopped working. I do get some error messages. I'm in the midst of converting some files to server 12 but I can't stop them on the console. Also, I tried to stop the database server (figured I'd try to start it up again) and it gives me an error and doesn't do it. HELP!!

I apologize for what is a NOOB question. I've set up my FMP Server on a Mac Mini. I only have a single database. I've set up my port forwarding and static IP so I can access it remotely with FM Go. Everything is working as expected. I've set up myself as the sole user on the account...with a full access privilege set. When I log into FM Go (let's say for the first time), I enter my servers IP address, which then gives me my list of available databases. I click on the database I want to access, and I'm then prompted for my credentials. My question is...is this best practice? If not...suggestions please. My idea of a best use scenario would be: 1. Enter my ser…

We are having trouble getting external authentication working for FMS 13 on a Mac running OS 10.9 (Mavericks). Filemaker's knowledgebase has a whitepaper on External Authentication, but it dates back to FMS v8. Also it discusses Open Directory authentication from a Mac, not authentication to an AD server. I don't suppose anyone has a step-by-step guide for AD authentication on Mavericks, or any tips? Thanks!

OS: Windows FYI SERVER13: 64bit CLIENT13: 32bit (some or all of it, not 100% sure, but definitely the script engine ) THE ISSUE: 1. creating a script in client to pull in from an ODBC source, the import step will only see the 32bit DSN 2. trying to run that script via server schedule, or via a client side “Perform Script On Server” step, would fail. SOLUTION: create a 32bit and 64bit version of you ODBC DSN and name them exactly the same With both connections named the same, server and client can resolve the connection

I have a pop-up menu that uses a value list of customer names that inputs the customer ID into the field instead. I have used a pop-up menu instead of a drop-down list to hide the customer IDs. When the customer record has been finished it is saved, for security reasons, and locked down by using script triggers to prevent any user changing the fields. My problem is that I can't setup a script trigger to lock the pop-up menu from being changed, this means that even if the record is locked, the customer name/ID can be changed and this breaks the whole point of securing the record. I'm still new to filemaker so any help would be appreciated

Apologies if this is a bit of an obvious question: I run a script across a found set to change the status flag of each record (The job can now be invoiced). This found set is itself defined by a status flag (The job can now be delivered). My concern is that while this invoice script is running, another user could be changing the delivered status and the script could miss a record. Is there a way to temporarily lock the whole database to everyone except one user - so that the script can be run without any other users modifying any data?

I made the silly mistake up letting Java update itself, and now of course FMS won't launch. I've cleared the Java cache several times, rebooted several times, and no matter what I do the app still says it won't launch. Is there any fix known for this? Hi guys, I'm on a Windows 2012 Server running FMS13. I have written a simple .bat file which simply copies a .csv file from /data/documents/ to a server share. Running the .bat in CMD prompt or Powershell successfully copies the file. I've tried to set up a script schedule in FMS13. I can see the .bat file in the drop down menu in step 1. I have also added an admin user account to run the script by. Hi, I am hoping some kind individual may impart some advice on what hardware I should be considering for the following. The short version is this: I am in the process of building a FM solution (extensively to run under Go) for the industry I work in. It is an "OFFLINE" solution to be marketed by one of the leading suppliers in the industry in which I work. What I am constructing is something I have already done and have used in a live situation for 18 months with other companies. This solution is more generic and focused on our industry as a whole, rather than our particular working practices. The Server is best thought of like an "email server".....…

I have a very established and reliable messaging system using Send Mail by SMTP server on FMSA 12. It's worked for years until now... We recently changed our mail server setup and are now using Mimecast, but still with our original Exchange server at the 'front end'. Today there has been a performance issue between the Exchange and Mimecast hosts resulting in every message reporting error 1506, even though the messages are actually getting delivered. The official FM help says "Email(s) could not be sent successfully" - obviously a wrong interpretation of the real event. My suspicion is that there is a timing issue between FMS and Exchange that is now exceeding…

I had Filemaker Server v.13 running without problems, including WebDirect on a Mac running OS 10.8. However, I decided to install Mavericks (10.9) and now I can't get the Admin Console to launch. I shut down the server prior to updating the OS, and the OS installation seemed to go fine, and the machine did the automatic restart. I can see that FM Server has auto-restarted too and is hosting the databases fine. (They are accessible via FM Pro > Open Remote...). However, I can't get the FM Server Console to launch, either locally or from a remote machine. Also WebDirect is no longer working. We're going to port our databases from FMS 11 on Windows Server 2003 to FMS 13 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The databases currently authenticate to the server's local users and groups and we're going to keep that when we go to FMS 13. However we'd also like to add external authentication via Active Directory. Can FMS 13 be configured to look to the Windows server's local users and groups first for authentication, then fall to Active Directory if the user isn't in the local directory? Thanks.

Hi, A simple question really. I use FMPA 13 and FMS 13. I have one container field in this solution. It contains an image I get from the net. For example, if a production is Book of Mormon, I download an image and it is displayed on various layouts that pertain to that particular production. The images are stored as references only in a folder I happen to call "Logos". Locally this works fine. I grab an image and drag it into the logos folder then insert the pic into the container field of the record of the production. The folder "Logos" also resides on the server machine. My question? If I'm accessing the file from, let's say a laptop, and insert the pic (after g…

Am I right in my understanding that currently the best practice would be to keep within a separate folder either the standard one or a user one instead of incorporating them into the database? That would make the database file smaller and less prone to corruption, as well as more manageable. My understanding also is that at the moment you can only keep such data in the same volume as the server is in, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi, After reading the advice from a knowledgeable poster here I started making sure there was no user logged into the host machine. I understand this is the safest way to use fm server. This is all fine in that FMS runs fine without any user logged into the host machine. However, I have a drive attached to the host machine (usb3) that serves as a backup destination for regular and progressive backups. If no user with sufficient permissions is logged into the host machine, the Admin Console reports the folder on the backup drive as an invalid path. Thinking this might be a permissions issue I've tried to work in that direction. So far no luck. I must be logged into…

Probably a silly question, but . . . When I run a solution locally on my desktop machine I have a closer script that saves a copy as to a different location. This is to avoid Time Machine backing up open files. I exclude the folder where my active files reside from TM backups and allow backup of the copies. Works fine. When the files are hosted however, this command is not available (and throws error 3).Why not? There's likely an obvious answer I'm not seeing. The hosted files can save PDF files on the client machine for example. Just curious why the hosted file can't save a copy to a location of my choice. Of course I'm using the FMS backup scheme, both progressive and h…

I have a file that uses an Opening and Closing script. The closing script sets a couple of global fields and the opening script references these fields. The purpose is to find a group of records and then go to a specific record. Old course, when this file is hosted, the globals can be set but revert to the original values once the file closes. Is there a way to set global fields and commit by performing the script on the server? If not I know I can get this done by another method. Rick.

Hello A customer of mine runs a mainly Windows environment. They have troubles with Java to log in the admin console. The Windows (Server and clients) supporter has not the time to update the server and the clients at the moment (the licences are available). He thinks, updating the server in a first time and run the solution with FileMaker Pro 11 clients could do the trick for the moment. Will that work? Should I ask him to give updating to 11v5 Server one more chance? Thank you for your feedback

And is it related to server version? My current server version is 12.0.4.405 Thanks

Hi all - (not sure if this is a "server" question or a "scripting" question - apologies if I'm in the wrong forum) We have FMP Server 12 hosing 50 files or so on an OSX ethernet. We typically open remote files from a small "control" panel on users machines firing an "openfile" script to bring up the right db. All is well except just recently ONE file won't respond to the OpenFile script command - all the others work fine. I can open the file manually via the "Open Remote" menu command - it's right there in the list of hosted files. Can someone throw me a bone? What might I be missing? Cheers, Jeff in VA

Hi, This is likely old news to many, but since it bit me I thought I'd pass it along. This week I deployed FMS for the first time. It's my first experience working with FM on a network. Most of my energy has gone into making sure the files had redundant backups and some security issues. Over the last two days I noticed that a couple of files were taking forever to close. Both these files had "Closer" scripts that called a number of Cleanup scripts, each of which involved potentially substantial finds. On a powerful desktop machine the files would close in the blink of an eye. On the network one of them took two or three minutes to close. So I ran the script debugg…

In the FMS 13 Getting Started Guide it staes that a folder on a network drive can be designated as the default backup destination or the destination for progressive backups (different folder) as long as the drive is always mounted. Since my server machine, a Mac Mini, never sleeps and the network drive is always mounted I thought there wasn't any reason not to use the drive. However whenever I try to designate a folder on this drive as a destination admin console will not save the configuration. The reason I want to do this is that the server machine has a relatively small drive (500gb) and the network drive is 4tb. I don't want to limit my backups to ten or twenty insta…

Last year the company I work for upgraded to FileMaker 12 from FileMaker 11, and the upgrade went very smoothly. I managed the client installations on the Mac side, while our MIS team handled PC deployments. The only headache that we experienced on the rollout was needing to manually set each user's Favorite Hosts. We've finished testing FMS13 and are planning to update the production server and clients soon, so does anyone know of a way to set a client Favorite Hosts remotely? This company has 85+ FM users now, so any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! ---- Adam

Hoping there is a solution to this. I host my vertical market solution on my own servers for my clients and I run updates once a month. I have built an update engine that backs up, closes file, takes the file off the server, runs an import process, saves as compacted and then puts new file back in the hosted directory and opens it. This is all automated except for 1 issue. I get the pop up dialog from FMPA that file can not be shared because another user is sharing . This is because I am running on the same machine as the FMSA 13, which I need to do because Im using the command line to control the server for this process. Is there a way to disable the sharing check on th…

Hi, Im a complete beginner with FileMaker server. I have been working with FileMaker pro for the last 2 months. Thats my experience level. I felt should say that first. Im trying to get my FileMaker database which I have created to go onto my own website (www.mywebsite.com). But I'm completely stuck. I have gone through the manuals writing some PHP onto my website but I'm pretty sure I'm missing a step or three! So I have uploaded the database onto my FileMaker server from FileMaker pro. What are the next steps after that? Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Hi everyone,  I'm  new to Filemaker and have a beginner question about how to structure my tables (ERD'style).  Here's the situation:  I want to create a database in which I connect three entities:  1. Clients 2. Invoices 3. Artworks/Artists  - Clients can have multiple invoices - Invoices can have multiple artworks (however, every artwork is unique!! unlike generic products) - Artworks/Artists: every artwork is unique, and one artists can have multiple artkworks  *I would like to add a feature in which I can connect multiple pieces of art with multiple clients - I call this "interests". To avoid to creating a many to many relationship I cre…

Would anyone have come across this before? On the server are two data files: 1) Data 2) Print Layouts (layouts that refer to the data in Data) From my UI file, if I do a "perform script on server" which calls a script IN the Data file that modifies records in the Data file, theres on problem. But if I perform a script on the server (a script in Print Layouts) that modifies records in Data, I get: Warning 661 <server name> Client "delete existing stickers (type, school) - <username> 9 (administrator’s Mac mini) [127.0.0.1]" authentication failed on database "Data.fmp12" using "<username> [fmapp]". I installed FMS 13 yesterday. Nice! However I've discovered when, in the admin console, I download database files from the server, it creates zip files that unzip into unix executable files. Not much good. I suspect this might be different if the files downloaded to a machine other than the host machine, but there's no option to do this although there are other macs on the network. I found the workaround. From another machine on the network, grab the files in the data/databases folder. They appear on the second machine and the permissions are all corrected as well so they can be opened locally by FMPA. It seems odd that FMS has the commands and they don't seem to work. An…

Hi, I'm considering purchasing FM Server. Here is my situation. I have three machines on site, all on the same home network. A Mac Pro, a Mac Mini and a MacBookPro. The mini is only used as a media server and has plenty of room. The desktop is the most used machine and I use it for all general tasks. The laptop is a convenience. The demands on the server will be light as I'm the only user. Since the Mini is the least used machine I'm thinking it's the likely candidate for server installation. Good idea? I would like to be able to develop the hosted files from either my desktop machine or my laptop. Am I correct in assuming there will be one set of files r…

Hello,  I am trying to get Server 13 up and running on a Mac Mini server running Mavericks. I have been having trouble with the Deployment Assistant. The first time I tried to install, I got a long Java error. I checked for updates to Java, found Version 7, Update 45, and installed that. Presto! The error disappeared, and I was able to complete the assistant. When something wasn't working right, our IT guy tried to edit the deployment through the Admin Console, which borked the whole thing. Unable to get it going again, I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the software. That didn't work. I tried uninstalling Java, so I could replicate the process…

I can use the send event to run the script but this doesnt work as it attempts to run the script on the users PC as opposed running it on the server which it needs to do.

I'm trying to validate some container fields via script, and I've noticed that using the IsEmpty function doesn't seem to recognize signatures, as does the equal or not-equal sign operator. How do I check for signatures? *edit* Disregard, it was programmer error. This post can be deleted.

Hi All, I am stuck with an unknown problem which I have never faced before. The thing, that I want is to upload the images into the FileMaker Server HDD drive folder. In mac, there is a drive called "FileMaker Server HDD" where FileMaker Server is installed. And in the same drive there is a folder called "Photoserver". Please let me know that whenever any user upload image into the FileMaker from client side using container field, it should be saved into the "Photoserver" folder. And in field called "Path", it should save the path or the reference of that Uploaded file. I am using FileMaker Server 11 Advanced and FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced. The client is from PC and …

Hi: I was checking my Kapersky settings on the computer hosting fmserver, and found it is sending TCP info to 2 IP addresses in Ukraine: 176.32.99.193:443 and 176.32.99.56:443 I blocked those addresses and then fmserver.exe connected again to Ukraine through other addresses. Amounts of data are small (largest 9 KB received/1.6 KB sent) all active for many hours. It is also receiving small amounts of data on connections open for many days through its LAN address (192.168.1.5), using ports 49204 and 49163. As soon as I turned off the server, all traffic vanished except for an inbound under Java Platform SE binary (23.202.103.219:443) which belongs to Akamai …

If you purchase 5 concurrent connections to WebDirect, does that mean only 5 people can be logged into the database via WebDirect? Or does it mean Filemaker Server will only respond to 5 concurrent requests/interactions simultaneously. In other words, what happens if you have 5 people signed in, but only 1 of them is actually interacting with the database. If a 6th person connects are they denied access?

I have FileMaker Server 11 Advanced on a Windows Server 2012 server. I know, FM is not supported on Server 2012, but FMA Server runs just fine except the IWP. I keep getting a 503 error message. I have been working on this for four days now and I really need someones help. I have a feeling that I will have to roll the server back to Windows Server 2008 R2. I would rather not do this since I can connect to my hosted files and they are running way faster than when they were on 2008 R2. Any suggestions? Thanks, Randy

We currently have hundreds of FileMaker 11 clients and a few FileMaker 11 servers deployed. We are needing to plan a course of action to get everything on FM13. And I had a few questions: Are FM11 clients compatable with FM13 servers? Are FM13 clients compatable with FM11 servers? Does converting FM11 databases to the new format have any known pitfalls we need to watch for? Is there an available MSI for the FM13 client for GPO deployment? Any other tips for a broad deployment/upgrade like ours?

OSX 10.9 with FMS13.0v1 installed and using FMPA13. I make sure all copies of FileMaker are closed and no files are served. I make sure everything FM is removed from Activity Monitor. Then with clean process, I place a file on my desktop and begin the test: I open FMPA13 directly (not by selecting an FM file) and select Security and 'upload to server'. Whether I specify 'automatically upload' or not does not matter, the problem happens regardless. The problem? FM generates a Recover log and places it in same location as the file I upload. It only contains two entries checking for consistency but it bothers me a great deal. Normally seeing a Recover log will ca…

I have FMS 13 setup on a Mac Mini server running OS X Mavericks 10.8.5. I would like enable the firewall. What Apps do I need to add as exceptions so that I can access the FMS console and open the databases from other computers on my LAN? Thanks Bruce Note: This is a brand new Mac Mini and I "assumed" it was running Mavericks. I noticed that the version number for the OS matched my Mac Book Pro running Mountain Lion. So I checked and it is running Mountain Lion. The question is the same, how to enable the Firewall for FMS 13. Thanks Bruce

Happy new year, everybody. I'm going to ask my narrow question, but then also give the background of what I'm trying to accomplish. If experienced users have a recommendation for solvinig my problem a different way, I'm open to it. The narrow question is this: I believe that FMS is publishing XML data, and I have access to the machine where it would be found, but I don't know where to find it. In other words, when I visit 011.022.33.44:16000 (fake IP addresses for the sake of simplicity), I get the FMS start page. But I don't know where to go next to find the XML data for my databases. Different port? Note getting responses at ports 443, 2399, 5003. (At por…

Hi All, I'm trying to find a way to get a list of all current logged-in users, whether they are FM Pro or IWP clients. Does anyone know of a way to do this, and also establish whether each client is an FM Pro or IWP client? I can capture details when a user logs in, and at that point establish whether they are via FM Pro or IWP, but can't trap if an IWP session ends through a timeout (and hence logs out the user). Thus I need a way to get a "Currently logged in" User list on demand. Thanks!

Hi there, I'm getting back into details of FMP Server and wanted to ask for some advice about recommended methods for tweaking hosted files. We've had our FMP system that has run like a clock since version 5-something. We tweaked it a bit with the big change at version 7, as I recall. But then again we haven't had to touch it. Sweet. But now the time has come - our company and practices have evolved and so must our FMP databases. Not in a big way - need to tweak layouts and scripts a bit. Maybe change some container fields. We host FMPS 12 on a dedicated iMac. I'm looking for the easiest and quickest way to access my database files from a remote computer. I ca…

Hello everyone! I've got a few questions specifically about the SyncDek product. If you don’t know anything about this product, you can easily stop reading this now I'm under the impression that Jason Erickson is very busy, as I've not heard any response back from him on this, which is unusual for him. Anyways - Can you install two nodes on the same server? The reason for this unusual request is that I want to audit different tables than what I want to sync. It doesn't appear to be able to distinguish this separation within one node's settings. If this is possible under one node, then please inform me on how to do this. Also, it looks like I can't select wh…

Hi everyone. I'm working for a very small company (4-5) users. The project I'm working on is upgrading them from FM 5.5 to FM 13. I've successfully managed to upgrade the database files, now we have to focus on the hardware. I think it's 3-4 Mac users, and 1-2 PC users. They would like the ability to use the database remotely. Right now, they have FM Server on an again old mac machine. Were looking to buy a new server. Mac or Windows? Pros, and cons?

I am problem using Filemaker 13 GO to connect to my Filemaker Server 13 which is still on Trial. There is 0 connections, so I assume that does not take up the max concurrent connection. I can see the Host but I cannot see any files hosted. I did try to use the Desktop App to access and it is working fine. Pretty Strange. I am also having intermittent problem of Filemaker Go 13 which could not open hosted files on Filemaker Server 12 on another server. Is there a bug with Filemaker 13 Go?

Hi everyone We're currently experiencing a rather annoying problem with the FileMaker Server 11 admin console. It works just fine locally on the server. When trying to connect remotely (from Windows 7 clients with all kinds of browsers) via http://xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa:16000 the Java Applet starts and then throws the following error: "Admin Console could not start: Admin Server Manager unavailable" To be sure that the problem has nothing to do with the server itself, we set up a completely new Windows Server 2008 R2 in our virtualization environment and clean-installed FileMaker Server 11 Advanced. We did NOT update any JREs and left them exactl…

ok, i'm fairly positive i know the answer to this question, but I know there are a lot of people on here that have far more experience than me. so, I'm currently running FMSA 11 from my server with around 8 connections into it on a daily basis. sadly though, about 4 of those connections are running oooold imacs that can't be upgraded past snow leo. now, i read that fmp 12's minimum requirements is a 64bit processor, but, it does install on a 32bit and seems to run ok. but, if i upgrade the server to version 12 and then it doesn't work well for the clients...that's a major problem. so, my question is, can you run FMSA 11 along side FMSA 12 on the same computer? i rea…

I am trying to test FMS so I installed fms_12.0.4.405.dmg which is latest off website. on my Macbook Maverick 8GB w/plenty of space. It says it installs fine and then is opening deployment assistant but just sits there. It displays a blue message to 'click here if it won't deploy.' I click it. Nothing happens. Ever and I get no messages of any kind. I restarted but it did not help. I've read about Java but I have 7.0.45 and that seems right. I have been reading until I am half blind and still am no closer to knowing what to do. I have made sure no versions of FMP are running. Where to look please?

New to this. Installed FMS13 on mom's MacBook to test. It asked if I wanted to call it fmserver or whether I wanted to put a user and password. I tried putting my mom's name and password but it said that was not valid so I selected the 'fmserver'. It continued and installed it fine then asked if I wanted to deploy. Well, I guess I do so I say yes. Then Safari opens and the title bar says and Safari says it could not find 16001. I try to go back but there is no way out to stop the installation at that point. Every button which said BACK or CANCEL took me to another screen where I could not get out. I finally had to force quit. I went through all Safari sett…

Does anyone know if any changes have been made to the storage of containers? One question I have always had (and it was touched on but not fully explained on the FM 12 topics), if Bill enters an image on record one, and the image name from his camera is 123456. Then Susan enters an image on record two created by her camera which was also called 123456. Does FMS keep up with the links of the image to the specific record even though both images carry the same name? It is time for us to move from v11 and I just do not have a clear understanding on how the remote containers work. Michelle

Well, I am among the many users of this forum to be really excited by the latest version of FileMaker. I also got the software and licences for the server version from one of my other AVLA's (the company has a few agreements in place, for different divisions etc). This is where it all started going wrong. Backed up my server as a good IT chap should, I even read the Getting Started Guide to kill some time while I was waiting for the backup to complete! Dutifu…

I just installed FMS13 on a windows 2008R2 server today. FMServer is hosted on a virtual server. I have been using Filemaker for 15 years, and I have never had this much trouble getting server up and running. My first inclination is to uninstall and completely re-install. However, I can't get the admin console to close the databases. I have to connect to the server via remote desktop connection. I've tried to edit the deployment and create a backup schedule, however, the dialog window is not displaying the entire screen. It's possible the issues I'm having could be fixed if I could see the entire screen, I have a couple of custom php websites that are not c…

I noticed that the installation of the web technology in FMServer 13 has created a new site "FMWebSite" in IIS, and that I had to stop the current/default site in favor of this new one. How is this going to work if this needs to be installed on an existing website? I couldn't find any documentation from FileMaker on this subject. It looks like I will have to move all of the web files to the 'new' default folder (FMServerHTTPServerconf), or change the default path for the FMWebSite site? Would there be any problem to changing the default path in the IIS Manager? If you've noticed anything else that would be helpful in this particuar situation, I would be apprec…

My upgrade to FMS v13 went fine, my hosted databases are available on the network and I'm going home with clean hands. However, on the server where I'm running FMS, which I used to access via the machine's own IP address (i.e. the address bar used to read http://192.168.1.1:16001/admin-console/ , I am now accessing FMS at the address http://localhost:16001/admin-console/ . I'm sure I checked a box during installation that allowed this change, but now I can't (or don't know how to) administer FMS remotely from another terminal on the network.
