I recently installed FMS on to Windows Server 2011. I am getting the dreaded - HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter "C:\Program Files (x86)\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Web Publishing\publishing-engine\web-server-support\iis\isapi_redirect.dll" failed What I have found on the web for fixing this does not seem to work. Also, I have removed the installation, bonjour and all the folders and reinstalled, and it still does not work. I also have Symantec on this server. The only way to get the Symantec to work is to change the DefaultAppPool / Enable 32bitApplications to False. But Filemaker publishing does not work …

Wondering if anyone here could help. I'm a teacher and have been using a Mac Quicsilver running FileMaker Server 5.5. My school district had a fire and lost their cache of software, but I still had the Mac. Unfortunately, the hard drive just went out and I'm unable to get it mounted to copy anything off of it...it's shot. I'm trying to find a copy of FileMaker Server 5.5 so I can get my database back online for my fellow music teachers to use for a music competition in early February. I was wondering if anyone here would have a copy available they're not using or could point me in the direction of someone who might have it cheap. Upgrading to the newer v…

Anyone else having a problem with the FileMaker server console? I discovered this morning that I can open it, but get an error message. Interestingly, from the Server Overview, if I go to the Server menu, "Start Database Server" is a valid option. When I select it, nothing happens other than it graying out. My files are hosted just fine, scheduled server scripts are running, and all the FileMaker Processes are running, I just can't get admin access to the server. I checked Java and it hadn't been updated so I updated it. I know in the past Java updates have caused problems, but those times the Admin console wouldn't start at all instead of starting with ov…

I have a DB with about 50,000 records that is shared over a FMP server. It opens extremely slow but runs fine once all the records are sorted. There are years worth of records which don't necessarily need to be easily accessed in the same database so I am considering removing the majority of the records and archiving them into another copy of the database. But rather than have two copies on the server, I was just wondering if there are any better options before I go that route. A little more info on the setup- Records are viewed in a Portal on the main layout that opens when the DB launches. Portal is not set to sort records. DB is shared over the FMP server feat…

I know this is going to be a simple question, but I've looked everywhere with no luck. How can I find out where my database is on the disk? When I open FileMaker I just see the name of my database, not the path where it is saved. I've looked everywhere I can think but I can't figure out what path it is saved under. Thanks for any help :)

Hi, I'm trying to import ODBC tables (from a VisualFoxPro database) into my database located on a FileMaker Server. The ODBC source / DSN are located on the same computer as my Server. The trouble is, when I try to import the tables, either from the File menu or by setting up a script, I can only choose my LOCAL DSNs, not the ones setup on the server. Any suggestions? I am eventually going to want to to server-scheduled scripts, but this task is more specifically about having a user activate a script that will run an import from the ODBC source to the Filemaker database, all on the server side. And since the source is VisualFoxPro, a live External Data Source is …

Lately our office has been experiencing trouble accessing our databases - either over the local network, or remotely, offsite (via VPN access). Loading time is super slow, even scrolling through records gets it hung up and the db shuts. Often the window with the "communication with host could not be re-established..." error shows up and all windows close. We can access our networked volumes/folders/files fine. This issue seems to be particular to FMPro/FMServer. Sometimes it goes away after a server restart and other times it seems to resolve itself. I can't think of anything that was done to the server recently that would have affected FMServer (We are running 9, c…

Hi there, one of our customers is planning to upgrade his Windows servers from Small Business 2008 to Small Business 2011 and has asked us if there are any known issues with FileMaker Server running under Windows Server 2011. He is using FileMaker Server 10. Along with the upgrade of Windows he'd be willing to upgrade to FileMaker Server 11. I am aware that Windows Server 2011 is not in the list of the supported platforms on the FileMaker web site. I was wondering though if FileMaker Server is already fit to run with Windows Server 2011. Has anyone any experience with that kind of setup? Alternatively, if FileMaker Server may not be used together with …

I have a feeling this is due to a incorrectly set up server setting, but I figured I would ask here anyways... When I enter the smtp information in the email notifications, I get an error that says "SMTP test failed, Cannot connect to SMTP server. Check the SMTP settings an email address." Settings and e-mail address are correct. I am using Filemaker Server 11 with Mac OS X 10.6. Please be gentle with me as, while I am very comfortable with Filemaker, I have no idea how to setup a server, I am in the process of learning. What am I doing wrong? Where should I start troubleshooting? For what it's worth. On the server machine, I cannot load a…

Hey Guys, I am working with an organisation who has just moved to using file maker server, I want to open the file maker port on the server to enable remote access. However, I have been told by a few people that this is very risky and leaves the server vulnerable. Just wanted to see if you guys had any advise re this? I know there is the VPN route, but in previous organisations I have worked with, this has been a hassle to setup and use. I've got to present some evidence to management either way, so I would be grateful for any thoughts/sources. Cheers, Dan

I have worked with FM for years but I've never gone beyond local networking. I have multiple business locations and have a need to set up a server instead of independent databases that are merged batch from time to time. My remote sites all have Filemaker programs and I'm not interested in publishing the database but opening up remotely. I would have initially a need for 25 concurrent users with room to grow to 35+. The database is all text and is around a Gig. Can anyone suggest a good hardware configuration that would support this. Since the database contains customer files, there is a lot of data entry with about a third of the users. I'm trying to figure a configurat…

We have historically run FMSA on Windows servers. Over the past year we've built a few solutions that use Supercontainer. It wasn't until after the solutions were up and running that we discovered SC on a Windows box has some limitations. What we were able to work out with our IT group was getting a Mac server (running Lion desktop, not Lion Server) to handle the WPE and SC duties for our main FMSA machine that was still Windows (Server 2008 r2). On the surface things work OK. However, we've noticed a few oddities that I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on: 1 - IWP users seem to have an extended delay when logging into a database now. It's …

So the two-year experiment with FMP running on five stations has been a success, and the boss has authorized me to buy licenses for all thirteen workplace terminals. I'm looking at the bundle for ten seats of FMP and one install of FM Server. (Our little network will not be very busy for, say, eighteen months, as I start writing, then integrating, databases to handle all the variables that are currently tracked on slips of paper.) We don't have a server - just networked PCs. It's clear to me that for fifteen FMP clients to see databases, I need to have Server installed on a standalone terminal. My question: Will I have a problem if I buy a $400 machine l…

Hi Everyone, I'm hopeful someone out there has some insight into this problem at hand as Filemaker support here in Australia doesn't know what to do next. Basically over the past month or so my client has been suffering disconnections or staff unable to connect to the host each day. We had noticed the Bonjour service crashing with an error in the logs (and restarting sucessfully itself) but it doesn't exactly match the periods when users can no longer connect. The strange things is we may have one or two users able to sstay connected in the morning (when others can no longer see or attach to the database) who can also disconnect and reconnect sucessfully. We'v…

I just installed FileMaker Server Admin 8. When I attempt to connect to the FileMaker Server from within Server Admin, I get "Could not connect to FileMaker Server "(localhost) (136.xxx.xx.xxx)". I currently have "Favorite Servers" selected in the 'View' drop down, and the IP address in the Address column is correct, and I have (localhost) in the 'Hostname' column. I changed the Hostname to the full hostname for the machine, and tried again, but I got t he same error, the only difference was that the word "(localhost)" in the error was replaced with the true hostname for the machine. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, here? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I know next to nothing about Filemaker Pro, and have been tasked with upgrading our company's Filemaker Pro from 8 to 11. Before we do so, I've been asked to stage a test environment, where I install 8, create a database (and enter a few entries into it) as well as 2 users, then I'm supposed to use the .fp7 file from 8 when I install 11. Anyways, to my point, I installed Filemaker Server, and when I try to "connect to FileMaker Server" from within Server Admin (with "Favorite Servers" selected in the 'View' dropdown), I get "Could not connect to FileMaker Server "(localhost) (127.0.0.1)". Now, I know that 127.0.0.1 isn't the IP Address of the se…

Hi all, since our upgrade to FMPA 11, we've had all kinds of issues. It looks like the upgrade wiped out a bunch of the IIS settings we had for our websites. That seems to be mostly fixed now, but we're still getting a persistent PHP error on our PHP/ODBC/FM site. The site runs and displays correctly, so it's not a problem with accessing our Filemaker database. It's just that as part of the text displayed on every page, we get this message: Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Web Publishing\publishing-engine\php\FileMaker\Command.php on line 126 This is one of the filemak…

I've been driving myself crazy searching for a week; I figured I'd post here in case anyone can help. Our ASP.NET apps (the ones which use an ODBC connection to our FM database) broke after upgrading from FMSA 9 to FMSA 11. I've installed the new ODBC driver, changed the system DSN to use that new driver, and still get nothing but a server error. The error for one of the apps is this: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [iM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified The other app seems to work with small amount of data (it takes input from a text field, does operations on it, and returns the modified da…

Not sure this is the right place to ask, but I've been periodically needled by a few dialogue boxes that occasionally pop up when I fire up FMP 11. Sometimes it's something like "Cannot Share Files because ___" -- but this is happening when I just open a single File for myself and am not needing to Share it . . . Hi, long time user of Filemaker Pro (I started with a "dummies" book right when version 3.0 came out, the first relational version), and I've really loved using the program all these years. It's actually made it enjoyable to work with data and run my business. I've posted here before about running Filemaker Server 11 on SSDs, since SSDs are pretty much the most interesting thing to come along in computing since multicore processors. I have been told by smarter users here (people who do Filemaker for a living) that I was crazy to consider it, that SSDs were an "unknown" and no one should be running them on Filemaker server applications. I decided to take the risk any…

This question might be off topic for a technical discussion of FMS 11 but I'm kind of in a jam. A small company I develop for wants to upgrade its FileMaker solution that I set up ( peer to peer ) to be FileMaker Server based. The problem I'm having is the company still uses purchase orders to buy software and every company I check with wants a credit card. Does anyone know of a software retailer that still takes purchase orders? A few companies will do business by purchase order if it is a government agency buying the software but this client is just a small business ( real estate management ). Thanks, John

Hey Guys! So here's my latest dilemma. Client has FMP10 and i have FMP10A. i need to make changes to the database they are using. I should just be able to "Open Remote" and input their outside IP address and make the changes right? Tech support says it should work, provided port 5003 and port forwarding are full operational, and they are. So unless they're just lying, there is another solution here. Client has Lion Server. I'm trying to use a G4 with OSX 10.5.8. I'm looking at literally ANY solutions, no matter how off the ball they are. So bring em. Thanks as always!

Running FileMaker Server Advanced 11.0.3.309 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Been running fairly stably for over a year. Recently after Windows Security updates (I know, I know ...) Hi all, I have one FileMaker installation that ran for a long time. It's running under Windows Vista Recently, we had to reinstall one workstation, which needs to be able to access FileMaker data. I'm curious to know if anyone has encountered this issue... Background: I have a script scheduled to run from server whereby a snapshot link (SNL) is created and sent to recipients to allow them quick access to a determined set of records. The script runs perfectly and the SNL is created, attached and emailed just fine with one exception.. The problem: Since the script is run server-side, the SNL is coded with the LAN IP of the server: 10.x.x.x. The emails (and SNL) are sent to users who access the database over the WAN. As a result, the SNL won't work for these users. To complicate things even further, I have a dynamic IP and use DynDNS. Besides rol…

Hi All, We run OS X Lion server for our business, and have just applied the 11.0v4 update (well, re-install really not exactly an update) so that web-publishing works under Lion. Unforetuneately, now the PHP site assistant will not connect to the server - it either says the publishing engine is not running (it is), or that the server is not responding (it does). Admin console works just fine. Our existing PHP sites that used filemaker under Snow Leopard also don't work - hence my thought that I should re-do a site using the assistant, get the changes and apply it to ours. It's as if it can't see the IIS or can't access it, but the error code is less than helpful. I did read somewhere that when setting up server, you need to have an anonymous login enabled for filemaker to access IIS, is this correct? This is enabled both for the IIS serv…

I have two remote locations that connect to FileMaker over the WAN. This has been working relatively well for years. For the last 3 days we have been having major problems. I can see the remote users in the Connected Clients list briefly, but they just get the spinning beach ball of death. On the weekend, I used speedtest.net to determine that my server's connection was running seriously slow, but today I've been getting reasonably good numbers and it's still not been working. Until now, that is... now it's working just fine. But I'm worried this is going to happen again tomorrow or another day... What kind of diagnostics can I do to figure out if my ISP…

hello, I am aware that FileMaker Server 11 is probably not certified for Lion Server. I am also aware that Lion Server is just an app not a separate OS. I am just trying to confirm if the issue I am having just a problem with my server. I have installed FileMaker Server 11.0v3 on Mac OSX 10.7 Lion Server. if I run the command fmsadmin -u Admin -p pswd LIST files I get this error fmsadmin: Permission denied. Error: 9 I am absolutely certain that I have the right user name and password. It is just not working. I already re-installed FileMaker server. Can anyone confirm that fmsadmin comman…

I have a script I run on my computer (Mac) to work on some hosted files that I access via VPN. (VPN=Virtual Private Network software that encrypts data across internet between my computer and server.) The script touches many records, and takes a long time to run because of VPN. (I don't want to rewrite the script as a server script.) I am able to use Remote Desktop Connection to handle the server (Windows OS). One idea I had, was to run the script using a FM client on the server that runs FM Server. My theory, is that the script should run faster locally versus going across VPN. In general, is it safe to run FM client (v11 advanced) on the server that runs FM …

Hi all A client running WIndows Server with Server 11 cannot start the Admin Console after Java update 27. The files are hosted correctly and clients can connect as normal. I can stop and stop the database files using the command line. 'c:\Program Files (x86)\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\database Server\FMSAdmin Restart Adminserver' in the command line does bring up the y,n question, but makes no difference. I have reinstalled build 26 but still no joy. Any suggestions? Thanks Steve aka Dubl

I have a number of scheduled scripts on my server. Two of them say (right now) that they are "Running" even though they are not (there is no client for the schedule in the clients list). One schedule has a time limit of 10 minutes and has been "running" for about 20 minutes. The other schedule has at time limit of 20 minutes and has been "running" since August 30th. Because the server thinks they are running, it is unable to actually get them to run, thus the data they are meant to update is not being updated. Can anyone help me stop these scripts without bringing down the server? Is bring it down the only option?

Hi. I quick question that i think i already know the answer to, but its nice to be 100% certain. When accessing a filemaker server database either thru a remote computer or a iphone how much of the database is downloaded/cashed on the device? Lets say I have a 1gb database, would that take longer to load then a 5mb one if I access a table with the same amount of records? reason: The reason for asking is that im thinking of using container fields for project images/files and they might become quite many after a few years. And we will manly connect to the system remotely from hand held devices. So basically its reference fields vs internal storage.. …

Hi everyone, I am deploying a solution for a small shop that will have 7 clients and one server. They are an all mac shop and want to go with a Mac mini for the FMP server, and I was wondering which would be better -- the 2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 on Apple's "server model," or upgrading the non-server model to a 2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7? Thanks in advance. Val

I spoke with my DSL provider today about the cost of getting a static IP address. For $50 set up fee and $15 per month they can assign me a block of 5 static IP addresses. I have a new imac on my cabinet shop floor that only filemaker pro and currently just runs one database. This computer is strictly used as a task manager. This computer is linked to the one in my office with an ethernet cable and I open this file remotely. Would having a static ip address allow me to access this filemaker document (or imac) from my computer at home?

We have just made the jump from Server 5.5 to 11 and need some help. In the past we have been able to integrate FMS 5.5 seamlessly to UPS Worldship. I am having some trouble with FMS 11. I guess the first thing that I noticed is that FMS 11 does not support ODBC, could that be my problem?? If so, does anyone know of a way to accomplish this with out buying FMS 11 Advanced? Or is there something else that I might be missing?? Thanks in advance for all your help mhburris

I keep my database in Dropbox (online storage) so that I and others can access it from their computer. The images that are linked to the database are also kept in the Dropbox folder. However, when I access the database from a different computer, it is not able to display the image due to the path. When I look at the path to the image, it seems to change and incorporate the hardrive of the computer that is accessing the database, therefore breaking the links. There are over 3000 images so I want to keep the images as links and not imbed them. Any suggestions?

How can we get to the FM11 database when port 5003 is forwarded to the FMS 8.5 machine? Additional details: Cannot replace FM8.5 server with FM11 server due to budget constraints. I have an application in development that I just moved to a new server. I am developing with the PHP API on FM Server 11. The server is a Quad Core Xeon 3.3 and is running nothing but FMS11 on 2008R2 Web Server. When I am retrieving a recordset the CPU barely goes above 27%. When looking at Firebug the largest part of the load time when searching records is about 3-5 seconds for the initial response which corresponds directly with the CPU Usage. This isn't too bad, but the server is under almost no usage. When this goes to production could this 5 seconds into 20 OR does FM use a little more of the processor under heavier loads?? It stands to reason that i…

Hi, I'm using a script to process records submitted via a php Web form -- it sends a receipt to the submitter and sends a report to certain recipients outside the organization. The script starts on the last record and moves backward until it runs out of unprocessed records. Since I'd like the emails to be as instant as possible, I've set up a server script to execute it once per minute, all day long. I don't feel great about this solution though. Is an every-minute script as brief as this one likely to cause worrisome load on the server? The other option I would pursue would be to have the script run on only one record and call it from php after a …

Ok, heres the drum: I bought a series of FM Pro files for managing our business back in 1995, running on Mac OS. Classic at first, version 3.0. At first, we ran the files with FM Pro 3.0 running Mac OS9. Worked great. As the business grew after several years, we decided to add more terminals and run it from a server. So we installed FM Server 3.0, and then bought the upgrade FM 5.5 Server to upgrade it to the newest version. So at that time, (2004) we were running FM 5.5 Server and several FM 5.5 or FM 6.0 workstations. Sold that business to start over again. Kept the same software files, and ran them on FM 5.5 running Mac OS X. After several years, we added …

I dont have access to any other working installs of FM to copy a known working file. The filewall is turned off. I checked the permissions on the file are set to fmsadmin R&W What else can I try? Hi, this may sound like a dumb question but on closer inspection it is not. Can I make a button in my client side Filemaker Solution that invokes a Server Side Script -in the same way as if I would execute it in the Server Admin Console- by choosing "Execute Script/Shedule"? My Server Side script imports from an SQL Source into my filemaker. This is setup nicely on the FM Server and works fine (System DSN Set Up). If I could also invoke that via a button in my client solution, I could save myself setting up System DSNs on all client machines who wanto push that button occasionally. So! Is there a way to invoke, with a button in my FM Solution…

Hi. Ive built a system on a single filemaker pro 11 edition and would like to test it in a server enviroment. The problem is that in my layouts (that relies on graphic) I have used insert picture, store reference only, to create buttons and other vital elements. When I then move the database to the server I can not get the fm to find the graphics. I did assume that the link to the button picture was relative, and started from the database. But apparently not. Or is there an image folder on the fm server 11 that I need to use? How do you solve the problems with your layouts? I know I can copy paste, or store the graphic inside the database, but I would …

Hi, I'm struggling for hours with a Filemaker Go connection, I'm going crazy here so any help will be appreciated... When I look for hosts I can find my Server without any issues, but when I connect to it FM Go says there is no database on the host... One more point.…

We’re having problems with the Server Admin Console and WPE, described below in a memo from our server people. This server hosts a dozen databases that are in use 24-hours a day, so we’d really like to know what we’re doing before we shut it down or do other maintenance steps to end the flaky behavior of the Admin Console and the hourly WPE error messages we’ve been getting. There was a server incident that apparently started the WPE warning and error messages: a backup script malfunctioned and filled the hard drive with extra copies of various files, leading to the Warning 86 disk full error from FileMaker Server. After we cleaned up the drive and restarted the data…

I'm not sure whether this is the place to post this, but here goes. I have written a solution for my sole trader business. I would like to be able to access it when on the road from my ipad, iphone and laptop but without having to keep all or any in sync, as such. I tried dropbox and the whole thing nearly fell apart when I couldn't work out which was syncing and who was on first. No I'm musing that maybe if I uploaded the solution to "the cloud" I could access and add data in a browser type solution from where ever I happen to be........... Can this be done? How so? cheers

We have FileMaker Server 5.5 running on a MacOSX machine, serving FMP8.5 clients on Windows (Vista and XP) and Max (OS9, OSX) machines. We need a new Windows machine, which will be Windows 7, and therefore will have to purchase FMP11. The question is, will the FMP11 on the new Windows machine be able to use the existing remote files without messing anything up for everyone else? I don't want to develop using FMP11, just use it as a client to enter data into existing databases created in FMP8.5. Thanks.

I have a field that is a calculation of the sum of a calculation on a related table. Both locally and when hosted on FileMaker server the correct values are displayed. However, when searching against this field, it works properly when local, and does not work when hosted; as a matter of fact searching against the server version will only succeed if you search for nulls. I am attaching a small sample file to demonstrate the results. The first field "e" is the key to the related table - in this sample case, the related table is just another instance of the one table in the file. The second field "c" is not really used in the sample; in the original applicat…

We are running FMP 11 Server on Windows Server 2008, with FMP11 Clients I have a script that I have developed to take a daily snapshot of two related tables in a single Filemaker database by directly importing records from the primary tables to separate snapshot tables. Hi I'm running FileMaker Server 11 on OS X. I have a Windows app that updates one of the files via ODBC. If this app dies or loses network connectivity etc., the connection still shows up in the FMS Admin Console. Restarting the app just causes another connection to show up in the Admin Console. It does not appear to be possible to get rid of these phantom connections. The same happens if I write a Python script that connects to the file via ODBC. When the script exits, a connection still shows up in the Admin Console. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

I have always run Filemaker Server on whatever old Mac we had, currently a 4+ year old Mac Pro. I am kicking around the idea of getting a Windows 7 machine to host our Filemaker database on. What is the best solution to modify a db hosted on FileMaker Sever? This would be done after hours so no users would be connected. Can you modify the database from a connected work station? Should you pull the database off the server, make the changes and then upload it back? Should you have a copy of FileMaker Pro/Advanced on the server and work directly at the server? We have external backups of our databases which I could work on then upload back to the server if needed. Just not sure what can and cannot be done to modify the hosted db. Thank you, Michell Logan
