Hello, I created a letter within my database that I want to send to my contacts through email with their name and company changing. I have created a layout with a text box with my letter within. I am able to change the contact name and company automatically but when I send the email my letter is not included. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've written multiple scripts to no avail. As I've only been using FM12 for about a month I know I am missing something simple. Any advice or help will be very much appreciated.

Hi, I am having problems with my script that is to send emails automatically after a purchase is completed. The problem I am having is: some times the email will send, yet some times it wont. No error is given, and I cannot think of any reasons as to why it would send occasionally, but not every time. Nothing changes between the calls to this script. Hi all, I wonder if anybody can think of anything I have missed here, because I am having problems sending an email from a script directly through the SMTP server. Firstly, this had been working for ages (months). But suddenly the emails stopped working and ever since I have received the dreaded "1506 error". So then I try and work out what's going on. My wife runs a small business from home and has recently moved off eBay. We have chosen Filemaker Pro as our database backend for customers and orders. However, we are experiencing problems running email campaigns against her customer base. So, we do have a business email account (google apps) but getting the emails out is an issue. OS X mail certainly doesn't seem to be up to it - it crashes frequently, sometimes after spooling only a few messages. Using FileMaker 11 Sever, Advanced, Client and IWP smtp script command when options are added works correctly from IWP but not from the FileMaker client. Hi, I hope someone can help. I have a database that has a layout with seven coupons in it. Each coupon has a first name and last name field as well as a non-printable email address field. I want to have Filemaker create a PDF for EACH of the email addresses/records. So basically, the pdf would look the same to everyone, except their personal name would be in the fields and ONLY sent to THEIR email address. I have a problem emailing invoices. I have a layout that is an invoice. I choose x number of student invoices. I want to email them to those students. I go into email and send to the field "email" which are the students I'm sending invoices to. Then I sent it out not realizing it doesn't send the invoices, just a blank email. I am having trouble sending out automated email reminders. I currently have a script run overnight for a particular database. The goal of the script is to gather email addresses of people who are responsible for items that need work performed to them in the next 2 weeks. Help! We have a database used by about 20 employees throughout the country. Half of them work in our HQ using a client copy of FMP, the others connect via Citrix Presentation software (XenApp). Originally, our db was built in FMP7 which allowed SendMail script step to open the client's email program and populate the text generated by my script. This worked great when all of our engineers were located in our HQ building. One of my clients is using Outlook on their mac for email. Messages sent from my FileMaker solution to Outlook seem to have the 'carriage return' character ignored. All text runs together with no paragraphing. I don't have Outlook on my computer. Is this a problem between FileMaker/Outlook, or is there some preference in Outlook to correct this?

Hello, I'm trying to use the Send Mail script to send the contents of one field to its associated contact. Everything is working fine up until the communication with Entourage; the email is created correctly, but it is sent to 'drafts' instead of 'outbox.' I am using FMP 11, Entourage 2008, Mac OSX 10.5.8. Has anyone had this problem before? Any thoughts on how to get the emails to go straight to the outbox? I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I'm developing a contact database for a client, which should be friendly with their email client. Currently they are using Outlook for Windows, but will be switching to Mac soon. He is open to switching email clients, so I have the unique chance to suggest the most ideal email system to work with FMP. Most of the posts on this forum are naturally about the problems; I'm just wondering if anyone has a FMP-email system that they love and would recommend? I searched for hours and found threads such as this one ; The threads explain nicely how to export files to paths and then attach them, but I have a far more simple problem. In my 'Send Mail' Option window, the 'Specify' Attachment is simply greyed out. (See attachment - no pun intended) Thus, I cannot specify a field - I can only choose one file to attach. One of the users of the database I developed uses Thunderbird as her default mail program. When the program tries to send an email out, she gets the attached email message, which reads, "Some of the files that are needed are either damaged or have not been installed. Please run the installer to correct this problem." FM generates the error code 130, with the following description: "Files are damaged or missing and must be reinstalled." The thing is, that I need this calculation to come out as HTML or the link will be broken due to any space between "FirstName", "Surname" and Last Name. I am having trouble getting my email to work in FM 10. It was originally created in FM 10 and worked perfectly. I update to 11 and now the script will not work in 10. Many of my users - especially prospective new ones - use an internet email service such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo or others and have no email profile defined on their pc. Some of the benefits of my software include options to email various information to my users clients so they may not be equipped to use them when they initially install the package. However I would like the database to send formated email when certain things are done. IE: If a date is put in a field, a name, or clicking a button. hello, I am running reports that are currently creating PDFs and emailing them to my staff. This worked great when we were smaller, but now the files are getting too big and going to to many people. When you use Send Mail Outlook creates a Plain Text email with no signature which is no good because my client wants his default signature. I have tried using "MailTo:" which gets Outlook to open a HTML email with the signature which is good but I can't seem to add an attachment using this method. Does anyone know how? Basically Filemaker 9 is crashing on me every time I try to use the "save as pdf button" I created (the script works just fine on other computers just not the few that I am working on and once I check the "Create email with file as attachment" the Filemaker program crashes. Hi, Brand new FM user. I have converted 15 years of Appleworks files to FM and am managing them. I have tasks I would do in Appleworks that were easy and I need to figure them out now. I am trying to put together a solution within Filemaker Pro that will allow my users to create an HTML formatted email. I'm having an issue when I try to send an email using the "[email protected]" account. I get back a "The Authentication Failed" message even though I know the username and password are correct as I can login fine on the gmail website. Having done a search on the statements to go out and then determining which of those will accept Email is fine so my found set now gives me my email list of clients. I have set up several scripts in my FMP databases to send out email notifications to clients and authors when their articles are published. To do this i just transfer the pdf file i intend to send on the "filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Documents/" folder and then run a "send mail" server side script to send the email with the pdf attached to it. Hello, We are going to Windows 7 and testing Office 2010 (beta). Currently we are using version FM 10. When trying to send an email using the Send Mail script (via E-mail client), FM crashes (same script was fine under XP and Outlook 2003). The error: "FileMaker Pro has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. One of my clients is experiencing difficulties sending email through Thunderbird. This is what happens: "Regular email is working fine but thru RM a box opens that says file maker pro has stopped working - click 'switch to' to correct problem. Do that and then again says file maker stopped working - windows looking for solution. Then after a while says windows will close program and shuts down RM." Im testing out sending emails via smtp, am I right in thinking that smtp emails dont go via FM server, they connect directly to Exhange in our case and email out? If thats the case, is there any way I can send them to our FileMaker Server 11 and then get FM Server to send the email out? When using Filemaker from the desktop on a Mac is there a way to set the sender. I'm using Mail.app for sending the email. FM9 / 10.6.5 Is this choice available in a later version of FM? Hi all I have a really simple form which just collects info such as name, address, email address and booking details etc. I want to be able to enter a new record, and hit a button, to send a confirmation email to that record. Ideally, the email will be formatted in HTML, and will contain many of the fields captured in the form. What's the easiest way to do this? Hi, I hope someone can help with this. I have recently installed FMP11 on a machine previously running FMP10 and notice that the Applescripts that previously used to control and navigate web viewers don't seem to work as expected anymore. I can navigate to the web viewer and enter text into a field within it but the keystroke tab command does not move me to the next field, just types a tab within the field. This worked fine in v10. I have seen notes from other people with this issue but no solution. Any ideas? Many thanks Rufus

I use Filemaker to keep in touch with a 280 member Vintage Race Group. I use Send Mail to keep in touch with members. However, MobileMe allows only 200 emails a day, so I'd like to use 2 @me accounts and send 140 through each. But how can I select which email to use? Is there a way to copy the contents of a field to the address block for em apps like Outlook, Thunderbird and Mail (Mac)as I looked at the FM help docs and did not see if there is a way to do it without having to open the email app and do a paste of the field's content into the address block of the emailer. When sending an email from FileMaker with the Send Mail command using Outlook for Windows 7, the message is composed but FileMaker holds onto control and does not proceed until the email is sent or deleted. My question is: Is this the normal expected behavior? On the Mac it generates the email in Mail, then the script continues leaving the composed email waiting to be sent. Am I missing something obvious here? Is there a way to create a single email or multiple emails and leave them up for review and sending after the rest of the script has run?

I cannot use the SendMail function. FM looks for Eudora as the Email client, but Eudora is not installed on this machine - never has been! I use Thunderbird 2/0/24, and within Windows, Thunderbird is properly set as the default Email client. How do I change FM's configuration so it will use Thunderbird instead of looking for Eudora?

Hi, I'm hoping this is something basic. I have recently upgraded one of our windows machine to run Filemaker Pro 11. All seesm fine apart from the fact that the the email using email client script step does not seem to pass the email address through to the email client anymore.It is really frustrating. I have 200 records with names, addresses, phone numbers and emails. I would like to export these records to MAC's Address Book Application so I can send emails via MAC's Mail application to the entire group. Can anyone advise how this may be done or if it can be done without recopying each record's data into the Address Book application?

Hi Guys, We currently have all of our data, including email addresses in a FileMaker 9 database which is hosted usnig Server 8 Advanced. We use exchange and outlook to email. One of the options in oulook is to create a distribution list. Is there anyway someone knows that I can create a distribution from FileMaker to Outlook, and if the record (i.e. email address) is updated in FileMaker, it wold automatically update in Outlook. I can create email scripts that attach files, sends to multiple addresses etc... All these scripts launches the email client on that workstation. What I need now is to have the email script email through the filemaker server. The boss doesn't want the email going from the workstation, they want the email to be sent from the filemaker server where of course the database is hosted from.. not sure how to do this? any help is greatly appreciated! Hello, I have a FM Pro 11, Adv. Windows7 Solution that has reports with 30 to 70 photos that need to be organized and regroup then printed in the report. I currently have a Temp Solution, that I import all photos from a Folder. I have a new record for each photo, then display all photos in a portal. This works grate, and is very fast, but I need to import all the photos into the Report Solution, without any dialog. I have it working but it is very slow. I use a script to copy and past from one temp import file and past into my Report Solution one at a time to a Thumb nail screen. Very slow ....... Can any one help Thanks Sterling [email protected]

I am building a database in FMP11 (Mac OS 10.6), and I am wanting to send out a weekly newsletter that will include photos, titles, and short descriptions of all articles posted that week. They can then click 'Read More' to bring up the full article on the website. Additionally, I want the emails to have a constant header and a left and/or right column where special offers and announcements can be placed. I am trying to find a way of inserting text from a fields using a field or variable marker like this <> (this doesnt work when placed in a textbox. Basically I have a main table with a relationship to an email table, where I can record my own ongoing email correspondence with a client. Within this I want to be able to create email templates that pre fill with the field info of the current client record. We currently have an issue with sending email from FM. We are/have moved to Zimbra, the full server version 6. Previously when we sent mail from FM it would default to Mac mail. I have set my Zimbra to default mail client but when I try the send mail option from FM nothing happens. For people who have not yet done so it defaults to the Mac mail. Im having an issue with a Send Mail script in regards to attachments. Ive checked the box to Attach file and from reading the dialog, it says "Click Add File to add one or more files to the path list,...." My understanding is that FMP is capeable of emailing multiple attachments. Ive listed 2 files to be attached to the email, but only the first file actually gets attached. Ive tested using Outlook 2003 - 2010. Is this an issue or am i simply mis-interpreting the text. Thanks

I set up SMTP options and the email address I wanted to send msg to, but the error msg popped up saying "the connection was refused by the SMTP server". Any clue of what is going on? Hi, I created a database to keep track of service tickets. I have also created a formula that prints the services ticket to a pdf with a unique name and then it sends it via email. It works fine. My dilemma comes in where I don't want to fill a folder with the service tickets I have sent via email. Is it possible to incorporate into the script a step to delete the file once is sent. Also I would like to create a field or table to keep track of when a service ticket is emailed and the status of the email transmission. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks RudyM

Hi Experts, I am using FM11 on Win XP I am a novice at filemaker and was having a problem wilh my script. This script is supposed to generate a pop up dialog box relating to the prospects met and the time due in a to do list but somehow it did not work. It takes the wrong record and shows the wrong time as well. I was thinking it would be smart to construct my html email on a layout in layout mode. I just put all the html in 3 normal text boxes (header, body, and footer) with merge fields to bring in the data from the record. It seems to be a good solution as it saves creating complex calculations.. I use the GetLayoutObjectAttribute function to get the contents of each of the 3 text boxes individually. But for the body attribute, I need to get the contents of this object on all currently found records (this is an invoice layout, where the body is a line item). Is this possible within the "Specify Calculation" dialog?

Has anyone found any issues with emails sent through filemaker's SMPT not arriving to certain email addresses. For instance, I have tested to my yahoo account and our company account and the email arrives fine, but when sent to hotmail it doesn't seem to arrive or in some cases there is a delay of up to an hour or more before it arrives. I am currently hosting on a client computer in an office with five PCs. We are installing a server next month. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I want my email script to choose a different jpg or template in the body of the email. I tried having it insert a jpg but the jpg does not display as a jpg in the email. We are using outlook as our email client. We want the body of the email to have a certain color text and/or picture. What's the best way to go about achieving this result. The situation is this. We have an "Enterprise FM solution" which was developed here and is now being shared with our factory in china. We use mac and china is on windows. It contains a FM email system and has been is use for quite awhile. Users here send PDF's, jpg, png files to china for a variety of rquirements. Hey, we are using FM 11 and Outlook 2007. I created a script that sends an email (with no dialog box checked). It works fine but when I search for the sent email in Outlook I find it listed with a Sent date of "None"...which initially makes it difficult to find if your sent items folder is sorted by date. Any ideas what the issue is?

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, FM9 Send Mail emails appear as rich text (Helvetica 12 font) in Apple Mail. For years Send Mail emails in Mail were plain text, which is my preference. My default setting in Apple Mail is Plain Text. I can change the text back to plain text for each email manually, but I want this to be automatic. Does anyone know why I am getting rich text now and perhaps have a solution on how to get my plain text emails again?

Hello all, I have had a request that a particular client email that is sent from FileMaker have part of the text be turned red so as to make especially pertinent information stand out to the recipient. However, it seems that FileMaker strips all formatting when it pushes the text to the email program. Is there any way to change or work around this behavior? Also, just to make sure I'm not missing something obvious, are you able to send more than one attachment per email? Thanks for your input.

Hey guys, I was previously able to send emails from FileMaker with attachments. It would select my default mail client which was Thunderbird 2 and bingo, no problems. I updated to Thunderbird 3. It has lot's of improvements that I love but now Filemaker won't recognize it as my default mail client. It is my only setup mail client and it is officially setup as the default client. But when I try to send an email from FM, it opens my unconfigured Outlook 2003. Does anybody have any suggestions? Has anyone tried to use Thunderbird 3 and their mail client with Filemaker? Hello I don't know know if this is the right forum, but here goes... Using FMP 11 over a MS Exchange server and cannot get it to send mail via SMTP. My Windows guy says all ports / permissions are open but every time I try I either get a generic, "cannot send email" or "SMTP was refused". Here's what I would like to do: I have created a simple form to fill out whenever we receive new shipments for our customers. Once all the information gets filled out, I want to click a button that sends 1 email to all of the techs for that particular customer. Current setup: I have a shipments table that pulls data from 2 other tables(external source:mysql) called techs and clients. The first field on the "shipments" table is called customer. I have been trying to get the SMTP engine in Fm to work for about four months. Today I finally figured out the problem. Setup Name: "John Doe" Email Address "[email protected]" What I found is if you leave the name field blank in the SMTP options it works perfect. Is there another way to attach a file to an email besides the "Attach File" option within the "Send mail" script step?

I am trying to use the sendmail script step while specifying the SMTP server. The mail get sent OK, however the message header isn't formed correctly. The message-id is something like: Message-ID: i.e. without a server or a domain. This means that many (most?) spam-traps block the mail as suspicious -- a malformed header under RFC 2822 guidelines. On this page you've got the update versions but nowhere can you find the basic Filemaker 10 v1 base version with which you then can upgrade to 10 v3. I am using FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced to program a Send Mail script for a client that is using FileMaker Pro 9. After the email is sent, a note is created for each contact that the email was sent to. If the email is not sent, the note is not created. Therefore if the user cancels the email by closing the send mail dialog, the script is supposed to exit without creating the note. Both FileMaker Pro 10 and FM Pro 10 Advanced detect the user canceled action as Error 1. FM Pro 9 does not detect any error. In all cases Microsoft Outlook 2007 is the default email client. I added some comments as standard that will appear in the body of the email, such as: Code: Hi [recipients name::text field], Please find attached a pdf for you.
