Howdy, I have searched this forum and elsewhere, but to no avail. Is there an "elegant" way to provide for page navigation in Preview mode, with the Status bar hidden, other than keyboard shortcuts? They work, however I would prefer to also provide a "visual" method. I had thought about some sort of pop-up window, but for the life of me, I can't figurer out how it could be implemented. Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated ... and thanks in advance Cheers! Lyle

I have got a "Sorry, filemaker is unable to continue printing. (error - 30872)" in a FMServer shared installation. The client that has the first issue Machine profile: iMac i3 - 3,06 Ghz - 10.6.6 FMaker 11.0.4 Three printers installed in the OS I also got the same issue with other mac. Machine profile: iMac Intel Core 2 Duo - 3,06 Ghz - 10.5.8 FMaker 11.0.3 Two printers installed in the OS I do print with no problems macbook pro - intel core2Duo 2,8 GHz FMaker 11.0.3 Eleven printers installed in the OS Have googled for a -30872 error but no success. Another report question. I have a report that using a summary field to total a figure for each person. It turns out you can't sort by a summary field. So if you had a report that had, Bill recruited 10, John recruited 7, etc etc, and you wanted the report to list them in order by the total recruited, what would you do? The only thing I can think of is to somehow get the data out of the summary field in to a new field for each person, then sort based on that. thanks

I have run into something that doesn't make sense to me. Under layout, when you select printing with two columns and select down instead of across, the columns also affect the sub summary parts. This might have uses but in the report I am trying to make, I want it to only affect the body. I don't see an option to keep the column split in the body only when selecting "down". If you are making a contact list with sub summary fields, you would only want the body to print down in two columns. If I choose across, everything works fine but it doesn't look good and wastes space. If I choose down, it looks fine except the body is going to cut through every s…

I am trying to print a report that normally has a portal in it. So to print the portal info I have gone to the portal table and I am printing a list view to get all the info from the portal into my report. In order to get all the other info in the report I was going to place it into the header but there is a paragraph of copy that would vary from report to report and I was hoping to slide this up but it doesn't seem to want to work when I preview the report. Anyone have any ideas? As usual I am sure this is a very basic problem to solve but us newbee's have to start somewhere. Thanks in advance for all your help, The Missing Man

Hi there... I was considering redesigning all our layouts for high screen res eg: 1280 x 1024 But I have encountered an issue.... a lot of our users like to be able to just do a print screen of the layout they are on... this worked fine for the old layout that catered for 1024x768... it just fitted on an sheet of A4 nicely... but with the new higher size layout the print screen does not work its far too big... I can't find any one of automatically scaling it down to A4 prior to printing.... The only fix for this would be to create a script for the print screen function that takes them to a different layout prior to printing!

I'm seeing this dialog in a new FM v11 installation on a Windows 7 machine. I fixed it once by uninstalling all printers and reinstalling the printer drivers, then the printers. It fixed it for about a week and has re-occurred. Anyone have any ideas on how and why this might be happening? A fix of any kind would be wonderful! Thanks, Denis

I'm working in Filemaker 11 Advanced, and I have a database with 3 layouts (Section A, B and C) that need to be printed out to create the complete report. Each of the sections has a variable number of pages because of sliding fields. On each page, I need to indicate "Page X of Y". The last page number (Y) is not a problem, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get the actual page number (X) on each page. Help!

I print 2 certificates which form a pair, previewing each in a standard form layout first. Each has its own 'preview' script. All certificates/records are deleted via 'print' and 'cancel' scripts. Certificates from related record nos 9001, 9003 & 9005 will display pages numbered 1 of 6, 3 of 6 and 5 of 6, whilst related record nos 9002, 9004 & 9006 will display with certificates with pages numbered 2 of 6, 4 of 6 and 6 of 6 (totals are likely to be a lot bigger). I was trying to print labels this AM, and found I had to use a different printer than normal, so I printed the first of 35 pages of labels as a test. It looked good, no reason to reprint, so I tried to print pages 2-35, and filemaker froze. It has taken me 6 hours to accidentally discover that it was printing pages 2-35 that caused FM11 to freeze/crash, that it wasn't the printer, or the computer or a driver, or anyone of dozens of things I tested. Is this the way it was "designed" to work? Is there another method of printing page ranges that I don't know about?

I would like to create a layout that has a simple grid of records, each one the same size, with a common background color. I created a layout with 4 columns across and I sized the 'body' such that I get 3 rows per page. I put a field in each, and set the background color of the body. So far, so good. But let's say that there are less than 12 records to print. For all the "missing" records the background is blank as opposed to the background color I set in my layout. Is there a way to set the background for pages that don't have enough records to fill the page?

I searched and couldn't find an answer for what seems like a mighty simple problem.... I have a simple list organized by one sub summary field. There are two tables: taxa and families. Every taxon is a member of a family. There is an integer that I sort families by and taxa by. I then print with a sub-summary in the layout, followed by fields for each taxon. (See attached). It is printed in two columns. When I print (go to Preview mode), sometimes there is a large space at the bottom of one column and a sub-summary break to the next column. Sometimes there isn't. Being a newbie is filled with dumb problems and this is one of them. I am doing a report that isn't working. My summary field is all correct in tabulating all my records needed for a project but my body is showing only one of my line items for a particular project record, no matter which view I look from, which has me confused. How do i get all my line items showing into my report? Hello, I am using Filemaker Advanced 10. I have a script listed below that shows page # of # on the footer of each record in form view. Each record varies in length depending on the amount of text included in each record. This script works fine if you print one record at a time. I have a report that is causing printing problems. The way this report works is that it gathers data from all over the system, and then creates individual report records ("BodyText," "BodyTextIndent," etc). Those records allow me to customize page breaks and easily set margins, etc. However, the problem I am running into is that when we view the report in Preview Mode, it looks fine (sometimes it happens naturally, other times we have to use my system of Sub-summary page breaks - but that is not the issue here). I have a database of students. I need to do one or both of the following. 1. For each student print x number of labels . For example - for John, 3 lables, for June 3 labels, etc. 2. I was asked if I can print ONE field (instead of the entire data with all other fields). Hello, I am looking for help when printing labels. I have set up my layout to print labels, which it happily does. However, I am not looking for way to print duplicate copies of the same label. For example, I have Records A, B, & C. I want to print 1 label A, 2 labels of B, and 3 labels of C. The only way I have figured out how to do this so far is to duplicate the record for as many times as I need labels, so that I have 1 record of A, 2 records of B, and 3 records of C. Hi, I am barcode labeling my inventory with FM on Avery 5160 sheets. Each label repesents a unique (non serialized) ID. Most of the time this is fine. However,I would love to be able to print ie. 10, 4, 2, 12 each of four of these IDS....without wasting so much paper. Is there a work around with the 5160s? I tried a Dymo 450 Turbo yesterday.... but it was really a hassle and kept crashing FM (tried 4 different Macs OS 10.4 to 10.5 - FM 8.5, 9 and 10) Is there another label mker that works well with FM. I've got a Mac running Filemaker 8.5 trying to print to an Epson printed being shared through an Airport Express Base Station. The Mac can print to the printer fine, except for one oddity: Filemaker Pro cannot print, and when I hit command P to print the record I need, it...refuses to let me click the Print button. Nothing will make that button press when printing from Filemaker Pro, though it's possible to make a PDF and then print that from Preview. Does anyone have any recommendations about how I might solve this?

Hi, I have finally built a loop that does not leave me stuck (insert applause here). I have a loop printing question, how do I get the script to go to the default printer without popping up a box for each record it finds. Right now as an example, I have a found set of 22 students and each time the loop runs it pops up a box asking for the print options. There has to be a way for the thing just to take off and find the default printer and print each record. Michelle

FM Experts I have a page layout that contains various fields to create a printed report. The number and size of the fields on the layout stretch onto three pages. When the "Set sliding/printing" format is applied to each field the text slides up and the enclosed part shrinks and fits very nicely onto the appropriate numer of previewed page(s). However when the amount of text in the fields is small enough to print only on one page the printer continues to print a second and third page with no text. Any suggestions! Steve

I've got a layout which will produce 3 pages when the current record is printed. On some occasions, users want to print the first page, the first two pages or all three pages. At the moment, they have to select the number of pages they want in the print dialog. I'd like to set up a set of scripts that pre-choose which pages of the layout to print so that a single button could print (say) page one of the layout for the 20 records in the current found set. Good day dear fellows I'm again in a struggle, this time with a layout used for printing invoices (for instance). I've got an invoice (I_ID) and lines (LineNumber belongs to I_ID). An invoice can be one or any number of lines (50 is possible). How can I create a layout for printing the invoice (with or without logo and address)? I can do it, but the page break is placed wrong (see the PDF attached, forget about the address field which gets cutted). Thank you for your appreciated help.

Hi All, I ran into a problem where entering preview mode and copying a page and then pasting it somewhere else fails in OS 10.6. I was using this to set up complex printing routines. No one seemed to have an answer. I did find out that this is a known bug http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/8706b7f871 So (a) I am posting this out as a warning to anyone that has a similar routine and ( looking to hear from anyone that may have encountered this and found a work around.

Hello I have a report that show shipping of many items. I have 4 fields for 4 different shipping, this report will be printed so the shipping guy can write how many items he send in shipping A , shipping B, shipping C and the last column is to total remaining.... Now like for the portals, I have alternate the colors of the fields A B C D. In browse mode it look like 4 columns alternating between gray and white. In preview mode if there is no number written in the field the color doesn't show. In both Filemaker 9 and Filemaker Pro 10 Advanced, I frequently encounter bugs when trying to set up column printing. This is especially prevalent when printing on small formats (e.g., labels). Here are examples of the two most common problems (there are many more): As you can see, there are 5 objects on this layout. A blue box, a green box, a serial number field (left), a text field (right) and a barcode field (center). None of these objects extends off the layout. I have reports that have up, down and right arrows from the symbol font in them. After I updated my computer with KB958869 (gdiplus.dll) the arrows stopped printing. I rebuilt my PC from scratch and left off this update, all worked fine. KB958869 is now lo longer available but my PC has the problem again after doing other Windows updates. I am guessing gdiplus.dll has been included in another update, it is certainly in an Office 2003 security update KB972580. Has anyone got any ideas how to get round this ?

Hi all As per the title I am trying to figure out how to retain the URL that is linked to a text item and also image buttons. I have set the links to the items on the page (print layout) using the Open URL specify button tool. This works great in Filemaker itself but I want it to retain the link so when I print to PDF the link is retained and the person getting the PDF is then able to click on the links/buttons in the PDF document and the URL will open in their browser. Ok, I am new to FileMaker so please ask any questions if I leave out an important detail. What I am trying to do is print a letter that has a variable amount of information in it. I have a table with clients and a related table with invoices in it. What I would like is a letter that has some client information at the top, ie our logo, the date, and the client's mailing address, then a little message about the invoices. Hi, I want to print Barcode Labels from Filemaker that survive -40 Degrees (Celsius! Thats blinking cold... in a Freezer. Can someone recommend a good printer and labels that can print directly from Filemaker, given I use the ID Automation plugin for Filemaker to create the barcodes? As the conditions in the freezer can be *wet* also, I'm looking for some kind of sealed label I think. Hello, I just became aware of a problem encountered when printing browsed records from a layout report form that I designed. The report prints fine when printing a single record in form view, weather it is 1 or 8 pages long. This layout includes a header, body, & footer. The problem is visible when multiple browsed records are printed, a text field set to slide up runs into the second page over the header. This text field was designed to accommodate several pages of text if needed, set to (Sliding/Printing, sliding up all above, also reduce the size of enclosing part). I wonder if anyone could point out a more stylish way to handle this basic problem of sliding layout items in a printed report: In those records where the text exceeds the basic boundaries, is there another way to establish grid lines and borders (as you can see) but covering the dynamic blank space? Ideally, you could tell the lines to shrink as well, but I don't think it works that way. I would love to see some examples of graphically successful sliding objects. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi All, I have recently installed a solution from FMPA v 11.03 (just to test it) across four different versions of Windows, those being Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Home Starter, Windows Vista and Windows XP Small business server. The print output from Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows XP is fine on the invoice output but Vista and 7 Home starter truncates the page. Any ideas how to get them right ?

Hi everyone. I got a problem using the "Print Setup" function. In one of my script I'm using the "Set error capture On" because I would like to cancel the script if the user press cancel. I have a question about Filemaker (any version) and networked printers. One of our clients is having trouble with their networked printer where FM11 will allow a once off print but then everytime after that will display a message that the port is not open and to go into the control panel and open a port. The networked printer is a Dell 3010CN Laserjet. The client also has a shared printer connected via USB which is a Canon MP-780. Filemaker has no problems with the Canon printer until the Dell is used to print, causing both printers to then display the above error message. Outside of FM the printers work flawlessly. The only way to fix the problem is to restart FM. …

I need to script the following situation for my users: I do not in general know the names of the first printer. I do know the name of the second. Most 'prints' got to the first printer. One 'print' needs to be directed to a second printer. I want the scripted 'print' steps to be done with 'no dialog'. I have a little database that is trying to track resume information on professionals I work with. Only problem is, their resume sections differ wildly in length and complexity. Is there a way I could get FileMaker to adjust to various lengths in sections of information? Hi All, Is anyone using, or tried to use, FMP 8 through 10 with Windows Server 2008 print server and the current HP universal print driver (PCL5, 6, or PS)? One of our larger sites (200+ users) is trying to standardize on this config and is finding that print jobs of any complexity coming from Filemaker take about 20x longer to print. We've done quite a bit of tweaking of layouts and print driver settings to no avail. I've set up a similar configuration at our data center and the problem reproduces there quite easily. I have two printing problems in FMP 11 running 10.6.6 to a Xerox Workcentre 7232 Printer. 1. When I select the print command and the print window pops up, I cannot change the options. i.e. Change grayscale to color...it simply does not change. The other thing, is certain options will cause FMP to crash altogether. i.e. Change the paper type. 2. From the scripts menu, I cannot change print setup settings...they do not take. i.e. Change grayscale to color or paper type. Hi Forum, in my FM Solution, when I run it on a Mac, I scale my printout to 50% when I print so everything fits on the paper. When I use the solution in Windows XP (with a super standard HP 2300 Laser Printer)it does not scale down the output. When I look for the option to scale down the output in the page setup or print dialogs there are no options to scale down the output. Question 1: Is there a way to print scaled down output from a script in Filemaker on Windows XP? Hello, I have a printing problem that I cannot figure out. I have a report that contains a Header, 3 Subsummary parts and a Body. The Header and first two Subsummary parts feature text and one merge field that consistently only take up one line each. Now, the third Subsummary part contains varying amounts of data and often has to extend beyond the first page boundary. Similarly, the Body part varies in length and often extends beyond the second page limit. I have selected all of the appropriate sliding/printing options (sliding up based on all above, also reduce the size of the enclosing part) for all field within the 3rd Subsummary part and Body. Hi, I have a script that exports records to HTML and subsequently attachs to the Client Email to send. The problem is that in order to fit all the fields on one page I would need to adjust the width of the HTML columns (but don't know if this can be done via filemaker) is there a way to export to HTML in filemaker so that the field widths are adjusted or at else the texted is 'rapped text' much like you would see in Excel I hope this explains the issue - attached is a .jpeg to help explain further many thanks in advance for the help JP

I've got a problem with FileMaker not printing black. I have 2 Apples, a MacBook running Leopard and a older G3 cube running Tiger. They are both Canon inkjet printers, one is a Canon Pixma ip90v and the other is a Canon Pixma IP3000. They will only print out of Filemaker in pink & purple. Other applications will print in black. Anyone have any ideas?

Okay here's my problem and maybe its something I just misunderstood regarding sliding and layout objects. In an estimating program I've created I have a print out that displays estimate line items sorted by the parent Estimate Group which is the Sub Summary Part of the Layout. In my program you can also display a specification or detailed description of the line either on the Estimate Group level or the Estimate Line Item level or both and what my problem is when there is no specification text in the Specification field on the Estimate Group (sub-summary) level the specification field shrinks appropriately but the Sub-Summary section itself doesn't. I am using Filemaker Pro 4.0 on Windows XP. It usually works perfectly. But sometimes it crashes (like now) when I tell it to print from the file menu. I will do a recovery and it will print a couple of times and then start crashing. Unfortunately, this is a work machine and I am stuck with 4.0. Any help will be appreciated. No problems on my Mac G5.

Hi, I have a just renewed group with 4 brand new iMac with SnowLeopard 10.6.5, with less than 3 working days. Also there are 2 XP, 1 iMac with Tiger and my PowerBook with 10.5.8. The FMServer is on a XP service pack2 (with, by the moment, 1 gb of ram, soon to be updated to 2, but running the FMServer). The issue: When I print in FM11v2 from any of the new iMac's 10.6.5, the application quits inexpectedly and, well, it prints but... This problem does not occur in any of the other machines. I have been working on a merge letter feature. I've tried to insert, via a merge, a scanned in signature. It is referenced through a Substitute calculation step I modeled after Jeff Nesheim's (at Excelisys) example of Implementing Mail Merge. Caveat: Jeff did not have a signature scan in his example). This is how the substitution is defined: "<<My_Signature>>"; cli__FRN~One::SignatureScan__lc ) the letter is based in the client file, while the signature comes from the FRN file. Everything works in my merged letter but the signature, nothing shows up but space. I'm using FMPAdvanced 11. Thanks for the help!

I searched, but could not find... I need to be able to print labels from a sheet of 6 labels and be able to specify which labels to print to i.e. print 2 labels from the sheet, then later print starting from the 3rd label. I have several multi-page merge documents, ie, Mortgage and Promissory Notes. They are basically large text blocks with merge field information in the block. Filemaker Pro 10 Advanced prints these on multiple pages with no problems. Since upgrading to 11 Advanced the visible text on some pages is truncated at either the top or bottom of the page. Any ideas as to if this is a bug or is there a setting that I need to change? I have attached samples of FM 10 and FM 11 behavior. FM11_Test.pdf FM_10_Test.pdf

I am having a printing problem with FMP 9. Some of my reports will not print. Using the same script gives completely different results based on the layout. Some layouts seem to have printing disabled. I noticed that when these layouts are selected the Print command in the File menu is grayed out. Is there some where in FMP you can selectively and individually enable or disable printing by layout?

FileMaker bug? If I try to display the same photo more than once on a layout, often only the first occurrence displays, others say "file cannot be found," in preview mode (all display in browse mode). Database hosted on FM Server 11 advanced, client also FMP 11, photos inserted using Insert Picture with "by reference" box checked, stored on shared volume. Opening database locally, preview works fine.

I have a particular record that shows only "?" in every field. The record shows up in a find with the Primary Key, and also with a search by name, so I believe the information is still there, just not visible. This is on one particular record only. I am trying to run a single script that prints first to a laser printer over the network and then to a local Dynmo 450 Label Writer. There are separate scripts for Print to Dynmo and Print to Laser Jet - these are called from the primary script. FMP 9 ignores the Print Settings, though, and just prints to the last used printer. I have searched for non-AppleScript solutions, but haven't found any that worked. This client will not upgrade to FMP 11, so I am stuck on FMP 9. Anyone have a good work-around for this issue? It doesn't occur on the PC side - same client, same solution - only on the Mac side using 10.6.4.

I have a 10+ page report and I want to print it two sided. IE I want to first print all the odd-numbered pages, reload them into the printer and then print all the even-numbered pages. I assume there must be some way to do this using scripts. Any help will be appreciated.

Is there a way to print column headers on multiple pages when the column header is in a Sub-summary part? I have done this before by using a Title Header part and a Title part. However, in this case, I am using the Sub-summary part to pull in the organization's contact information, which needs to be at the top of the letter (aka "header"). The column information itself is in the body and draws from a child table. This column information varies from company to company and may fit on one page or take several pages. Hi. Im sure there is a simple solution for this, but I am unable to find the correct "section" in my reference material or terminology to get started with. I have several tables - all related. I would like to have a field in my database where I can just enter the number of labels I would like printed out for that record. that way I could hit 1 button and it would print out all my records at once but only the number I want per recrod. I tried to write a script for it but I'm not sure how to do that since the number of copies is determined on the print setup page which can't be changed via filemaker scripts. I hope that is clear. I have a setup of 3 PCs using the same database over a network. There is a printer connected on each and filemaker see them all as network printers. I need to be able to print on a certain one, no matter which PC I'm using (even the one on my place, connected over the internet). It seems that when I press the print button, I always get to print on the PCs default one. I use printer setup script steps but it doesn't work. I always have to use dialog to select the correct one, but this is out of the question.. Thanks

Hi Everyone I have a script which prints a couple of documents. In fact the 2 documents are very similar and actually started out life as the same layout which was slightly modified to give the 2 versions. The script worked fine, and was set to print double sided, and really worked faultlessly until the other day, when, inexplicably the 2nd report would only print single sided. It took quite a while before I realised that the size of the footer was smaller in the rogue layout, and when I made both footers the same size normal service was resumed. Hello I have a solution working with 2 print formats with the same printer, I have filemaker pro 10 advanced for windows and I don´t know why even if I select specify page setup with one format and then select the other one filemaker doesn´t respect the preferences previously selected. I thought at the beginning that Filemaker page setup preferences responded to printer control panel setup but after some tests I realized that filemaker respond to the main menu print setup. Hi everyone people! I have this little issue in my database, when I print what I write in a big text box. The thing is that the last line of each page turns splitted between pages (in preview mode it also appears splitted)... I mean, at the bottom of each page appears the top part of a text line, and in the top of the next page, appears the bottom part of the line... Help please!!! I tried to reinstall the printer... I have a FM10 report titled "Department Total" where I am tracking the yearly budget, amount spent to date and amount remaining for 3 departments. The report is small - 4 lines (each department line, and then a trailing grand summary, which will show me the grand total budget, grand total spent and grand total remaining). the numbers for each department line are showing up as correct, but the "trailing grand summary" line is not showing the total/sum of all departments, but instead, is showing only the last record department information. It seems like this happens every time we upgrade to the latest major version of FM. I still have FMP 10 on my computer and I can use it to go into any database and print a layout using the same Page Setup I've been using - with the desired results. If I go into those same databases with FMP 11 try to print the same layouts, they are truncated on the right and the bottom carries over to the next page. It is then that I remember that Page Setup forgets it's setting with FMP 11 (but not FMP 10) and I have to go into Page Setup every time I start up one of the databases in FMP 11. Hi all and thanks for a very helpful forum! I have some data on a filtered table-view layout that I am hoping to print and have chosen a 4-column printing option from the layout properties. The problem is that the labels for each column appear only once (on the first column of each page - see attached image). I may be missing something, but it appears to me that FMP does not have an Avery Business Card template. The card I am using is 3 1/2" x 2" with 1/2" margin on four sides. I'm making a custom layout for the card but I have to tweak the body height of 2", otherwise I only get four rows instead of five (10 cards per sheet). I'm spending way too much time on something that should be standard. Surely, I'm missing something, no? Surely, there is an Avery Business Card template with these dimensions in FMP10 that works like a charm. Right?

Hi all I have a pilot's logbook database that I've decided to add a report for 'logbook printout'. It's pretty wide - it simulates the paper logbook pilots copy their entries from into my software. Anyway, the paper logbook is landscape orientation and two pages side by side - one page for description, route, date etc, and one for a breakdown of the time into categories. There's no way in the world I can fit it on one page, and foolishly I assumed that whatever was past the right hand margin would print on a separate page a-la Excel. Well silly me!!
