Importing & Exporting

Is anybody else aware that the export to email function is BROKEN under 12.0.4 and OS X 10.8.4? I've been able to replicate this. In 12.0.1 under 10.8.4, for example, the script step works like a charm. 12.0.4 - no chance. The export happens (you can see it in temp files), but no email is generated. I don't have enough OS and FM versions for widespread testing though... This kills an important part of our database functionality! Does anyone have a solution??

I want to populate a table from an excel spreadsheet, a child table to my master projects table in my fm db. The foreign key field I need to fill is the "project_number" key, since I am using an internally assigned fm serial key for each respective project number assigned by the user. So my thinking is. Populate the projects table first, have fm assign a pk for each project, then somehow find a way to relate fm assigned serial to existing project no. in the spreadsheet and then import it? Surely there should be some easier way... (this of course stems from the fact that I 've opted for an fm assigned pk serial, instead of replicating the XXX-YY (X:number, Y:year)…

I have a script that is importing XML from a URL location, and I have been getting this error occasionally: SAXParseExeption: unable to connect socket for URL (http:www... [url details]) As I said, this only happens occasionally. The script has been running without errors for over a year now. I'm guessing this is a network issue. Anyone know where I need to start looking?

Hi, i used to have fmp 11 & 11 advanced set up on my computer. At that time import photos from the folder of my server computer through network worked fine. But last friday when i installed the fmp 12 advanced on my computer , import dialog box doesn't display other drives of my server computer not usb drive. Import a folder files worked fine before and right after i installed fmp 12 it is not working.  Does anybody know whether this is a bug or not  or how to fix this one.  It is supposed to show it like pic-a. But now it show only my local drive as pic-b.    mike

I have a FMP file with 37 fields. I have tried to import new records from a file created from an Excel file. When I issue the Import command the right side of the import page only shows 19 field names. Also when I decided to import what matching fields there were, it appeared that the import took place and the message box shows that 10 records were added, but no records were actually imported to my destination file. Any ideas?

We have our old database and our shiny new one. I have exported the records to the new one no problem. Both databases have a portal which is for notes. I go to the portal layout on the old database and export all the records (notes) I go to the portal layout on the new database and import all the records (notes) The new database shows no notes on the records but they are in the portal layout. I've been working on an old events database that lists delegates from years back. It tracks who's been to previous events. The database was built back in the faxback days of manual entry and I'm trying to update the workflow. My idea is to get a data dump from the events registration web backend and try to import/match as many records as I can. Some things I may be able to match are mobile/cell phone number, firstname-lastname joined, or browse address. The idea being I have an intermediate import and cleanup file before introducing the data into the main database. Are there any other ways of achieving this? I have a database with a container field linked to photos stored externally. I want to create a self-contained database but I get the error: "could not be created on this disk. Use a dfferent name, make more room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk." I've tried different names, there is plenty of space on the disk, and it's not locked. Hi I am trying to export a report as a pdf, to a folder that has been created by FM12. THe name of the folder is taken from the data of a field from the record to be exported. Below is the value of the data in my variable that would normally be able to export pdf to a conventionally named folder - but I am unsure how to add my dynamic named folder as the logical way I would have thought it should be added does not work - you can see where I added my folder name after the file path. I have a report set up in 4 parts (due to the way the data and photos are sorted and shown). Right now, the script saves them as 4 different pdf files, which I need to combine in Acrobat. Is there a way to combine the pdfs in the script, or have Filemaker somehow combine the reports before saving as pdf? (The reports involve different find sets, so the latter seems unlikely.) Hello! Working on a single user solution. The user (from a different piece of software) creates two text files in a specific folder. FileMaker then imports the folder, parses the files, and spits out a report. All easy as pie. The question is: is there some way to then delete or move those original text files, so I don't have to rely on the user remembering to do it? Thanks for any ideas.

I have a layout which consists of a few fields and then a portal with about 10 other fields. I'm using a Portal filter so that I omit data were field x = 'Cancelled'. I have an export script which exports all data from this layout. However I don't wish to export the data that has been eliminated from display with the portal filter. At the moment I'm getting all rows in the export, including the ones where field x = 'Cancelled'. So my export doesn't match what is being displayed in the layout. Hey all Trying to import photos in a folder using the Import > Folder option. The image names need to be matched with a field name in each record. All the images have a .jpg extension, which is causing problems when FileMaker is trying to update the matched record based on the file name. The field that is being matched contains the same name as the images, but with no .jpg. Is there a way to configure this using a script?

What I'm trying to accomplish here is to provide a global container field where I would place a pdf via Filemaker PRO so user can navigate via IWP, click on the container fields and if I'm understanding Filemaker correctly ... Recently upgraded to version 12. Did something happen with the Save as PDF between version 11 and 12? When I save records as a PDF in version 11 the PDF file that is created is searchable. When do the same process in version 12 the PDF is not searchable.

Hi Mac OS only I am trying to create a script that when a record is entered the corresponding picture is viewed in a container. I already have a link to the picture stored in a field /Users/johnclark/Pictures/ShootMate/J/John And Chris Fellows Wedding_0209/Original Files/8_0209_JONG.JPG But filemaker uses a special syntax for paths to images ie image:../../Pictures/ShootMate/H/Harry Wilmott_0206/Original Files/8_0206_HATT.jpg The image folder once set could be stored on a external HD in which I believe filemaker needs Imagemac: Blah Blah Is there way I can create a path to the image that filemaker will recognise as a variable?

Hi There! I've studied the various ways of duplicating the entire set of records in the parent/child/grandchild chain, and the import process strikes me as the most simple and reliable method. One problem: Filemaker will skip the import of records which are accessed by another user at the time the script is executed, as those records are locked. Is there any way to override this, so that accessed records are NOT skipped? If not, is there an alternative workaround? A little insight. The solution this would get worked into is shared between 5+ users and is located on a dedicated server. Reporting scripts generate .pdf files and these reports are stored on the server along with the database. I'm experiencing a peculiar problem when importing certain numerical values from Excel 2013 into FM10. The values in Excel are formatted. Most are formatted in Excel as 0.00°C and are not a problem, with the correct values without any format being imported into FM10. however, there are some values which when formatted in Excel as either 0.00 "l/s" or 0.00" l/s" are brought into FM as seemingly a date value. For instance, 73.24 l/s is entered in the FM table as 13.03.1900 05:50:12 instead of 73.2432. Hi, I'm writing a script to import from one Filemaker database into another (i.e. exactly the same tables and fields) and am performing the initial import to match fields. I want to do this import and then select the "Perform without dialog" checkbox for the script. I always want the import to update matching records and then add anything not matched as new records. However, when the import dialog box comes up, only the "Add new records" radio button can be selected. The "Update matching records" option is greyed out and I have no idea why. I am attempting to perform an export from my Filemaker database into Laboratory Information System and have been asked to provide my records as ascii encoded, delimited text. When I perform the export on my end, everything appears ok, but apparently the records need to have a carriage return at the end of each record. I am looking for an easy way to scan business cards and get the OCR info into FM. I have FM7, but if it can't be done without an upgrade to a newer version, I might consider doing it. Online I found iPhone apps such as WorldCard Mobile with which you can take a photo of card with an iPhone and it will read the information and put it into the Contacts on the phone. We have been running an export script for a long time. It goes over to a program that than imports the info. The problem has always been that even though we export as csv it does still have the control character 187 embedded. No matter what format I have tried.. so we search & replace to remove the characters. We are growing tired of this, we are working with Filemaker 11 but will be moving to 12 in the next couple months. I have an Excel file used to communicate production information with a factory. It contains information from 5 different tables in my FM solution and is updated weekly with an UPDATE FILE(xlsx). I can export easy enough, but I am uncertain how to best import the updated data. I have a script that will import/update via multiple import scriptsteps into the appropriate tables in a single ImportScript. First, in the import dialog when I specify an HTTP request it doesn't resolve properly and I have no idea what it resolves to because there doesn't appear to be any way of viewing the result within FileMaker. So what I've done is set the URL to field which is referenced by a web viewer and then I get the source which is XML using GetLayoutObjectAttribute ( "myWebViewer" ; "content" ), which I then set to a field and export it as an .xml file. Hi, We have a setup where we download and import and XML files with bibliographic data every night of the week. On Monday to Saturday we imports the daily change files, while on Sundays we import the entire database to make sure we haven't missed anything during the week. The entire database is approximately 600MB and contains about 250 000 records. This import has been working just fine up until we upgraded to FileMaker 12. Now it just gives me a blank error message. I am using FM 12 advanced  I have a Membership application. It has a global table that holds things like: Organization Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone etc...  The problem centers around the fact that there are multiple versions of the program. If I 'release' version 22 it is released with sample data for first time users. But, a previous user needs to import their data from the previous version 21.  I just discovered tonight that my global table (which only holds global fields) has 18,000 records.... all duplicates ....  Yikes. This is the result of my treating the global table like any other table when I did my import.   But, I …

I am using FM adv 12 03. I created a runtime version of my program. One of it's features uses the FILE SAVE AS to create a backup version of the program. When I import a previously saved Programsaved.fmpur file, I get a dialog box that says: "Importing from: Programsaved.fmpur Records remaining 82567 Huh? I have this script sequence:   It uses this layout : _global   Here is the structure:   For some reason (therein lies the problem) accessing this layout and issuing the 'delete' command does not delete the Lodge Name, address, address2, phone and a few other fields. But, it does delete 95% of the fields. (The Phone has auto enter calculation. But the addresses are regular global fields). I think FM does not import calculated fields but does an autoenter calculation qualify for that exclusion? Also, why don't the address fields get deleted? I am perplexed.  What am I missing? I can't see it.  Update: I just stepped throu…

When I create a script using the import records script step, I can see the options where it shows me on the right the table and fields, but the on the left the source file is empty. My file is set to a global variable which will have the path when the script is actually run. My question is how to do the mapping when in the import script step I don't see the actual file on the left? What am I missing so as to set the script up and able to map the fields? I'm trying to figure out a way to import only specific records from one database to another. Both databases are the same file but may contain partially the same data as well as different data. I know I can manually open the import source, find the records I need to import as the current found set and the import just those. The question is, how can I do this via a script? From a project file created under Windows OS, is it possible to script the creation of a folder in the desktop of a Mac once it is run under Mac OSX?

My purpose is to use a unix instruction to create a folder on the desktop of a Mac. SInce I don't have a Mac I have to set up the unix instruction that creates the folder from a PC with a Windows OS. I have a database with 2 tables "Main" and "Leads" they are related by "ID". "Leads" is displayed in a portal on the main layout. Everything works fine. If I export a record you can choose the fields and the fields from the "Leads portal" If I delete the record and then do an import to put it back all the fields show on the left (including the portal fields) But no portal fields on the right, so the record imports back in but not the data that was in the portal fields. I have an access database that I converted to FM12. The db is a flat file that contains about 1500 old classic cars and their ownership history. Each record consists of the car VIN (which is unique) and a list of owners from 1 to n, over the years, with each owner name residing in a different field, e.g. owner 1, owner 2, ....owner n. I am using FM 11v.4 with mac os 10.6.8. I have a database containing 832 entries and image has been associated with each entry, using store only a reference to the file. I would now like to store the image file within the database, rather than the reference only. I am usisng FM 12 03 advanced. I consistently get this problem and can't get a handle on the underlying cause (besides my not getting it).... I have a medical records application. There is a table for patients and table for doctors. I have a import script that goes to a layout for doctors and again for patients and deletes all records. This works. I then, via script, goto import using the same layouts and find that the doctor table is trying to use Patients as a source.? Weird. Why Patients? I am adding records to a table by calling a new record request. the key is not to be created until the user "commits" the record. I have a "save" button which will call the "commit command" as well as a "cancel" button. What is happening is that as soon if the user goes to the "next" record, the current record is being added without the user having to tap the "save" button. I want the ability to stop the user from leaving the current record unless the data is "committed" by using the save button so as all the validity checking can be done or the data is cancelled. I've attempted to define a Lookup value for Address A (blank address field in current DB) with the correct Address B data. For some reason this is not working. I attempted to create a script but can't figure out a way to first search then compare the found set of Full Contact Name as the unique identifier. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have made a solution I have used since version 6 and for many reasons I have not upgraded since version 8.5 before now. In version 6, 7 and 8 I have exported invoices to PDF from within FileMaker. In 7 and 8 it was all automated so I now just click a function that save the file and it works perfect. After the upgrade the graphic got very bad. I used WMF-files for my logo as it was the best option on PC. It made a crisp and sharp logo but after the upgrade that is not working anymore. Hi all, Over the last year i developped a filemaker database to manage our projects and invoices. The database runs great except for one thing; exporting pdfs. When i create an invoice, filemaker runs a script that creates a new folder with the customer name and project number. In this folder it wil have to export a pdf from the invoice. This folder is on the same server as where filemaker server hosts the database. Creating the folders is no problem only when it try's to export the pdf to that folder i get the following error: “Untitled.pdf” could not be created on this disk. I'm trying to get the data out of a database to which I do not have the password to access Full Privileges (it was installed nearly a decade ago and has since been lost). "Export", "Print", "Save Copy", and the "View As" options are inaccessible, among others. Short of copying and pasting the data line by line (there doesn't seem to be a way to "select all") I don't currently see a way of getting the data out. Â Does anyone know alternative ways of exporting data in Filemaker or being able to bypass/reset the password? I'm using Filemaker 6.0v4. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I am trying to export a text file to a windows server from both Windows client and Mac client. However there is a difference between the files exported to the windows server from mac client and window client. The difference is file exported from Windows machine has a CRLF at the end of every line and file exported from the MAC machine has only CR at the end of every line in the file. I need CRLF to be present at the end of every line of the file exported from the MAC machine onto the Windows server. I am using Windows(ANSI) character set for Windows machine and Macintosh character set for Mac machine. Waiting for any sort of help???

I have an Excel spreadsheet with data such as Company Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone, web site, contact last name, first name, title, e-mail, phone, etc. Each row is one record. Obviously, there could be a lot of duplicate information as relates the Company data, if there are several employees from the same company. I have a script that imports data from another FM file (same vintage). When testing it before creating the runtime, all data is properly imported. Then when running the script in Runtime, most of the records are ignored and I get only a subset of the records that should have been imported. Is this a data issue? The date that the companies in the results first appeared in the results (for now I’ll call it Date #1), but I also need to acknowledge the last date of importing (Date #2). Hi Guys Ive developed a database to collect site based information of properties. The database allows the user to take photos of buildings and record various data about the buildings. The database workls fine but i now need to export the data. Firstly - can i export the pictures within the container fields ? Hi, I have a recurring import of Excel spreadsheets in .tab form where the data is in a 2d array with the first record being the job name in each column and the rows containing the data category in the first field and an amount for each column in each field after that. I do not know in advance how many columns are in the spreadsheet or what their values are. Ideally the job name would be another field in each row and every amount would have a category and job name in its row. The link below is stored as a text field in FM and I now need to export field contents to an .apfloc so that the export file can be double clicked to open the appropriate project folder. When I do this however it says that the files is damaged. If I export it without the file extension .afploc, double clicking the file just opens a text doc. Any ideas? I am looking for a way to import email messages into my FM system as records. I have a dedicated email account on my host that I'd like FM to monitor and every time a new message comes in, it gets added as a record. Any thoughts on how to pull this off? My goal is to log all of my customer communications via email by bcc-ing myself.

360 works' web assistant extension has a function - wageturl - that gets the source code of a URL. webassistant costs $99 though (or the free version only works if filemaker has been open for less than 2 hours). Is there anyway to accomplish this without spending $99? I'm familiar with the method of using a web viewer and the getlayoutobjectattribute function, but I don't want to use that method.
