Honeywell 1400g Barcode reader. Basically I am trying to read an EAN 13 barcode, I need the reader to read it, drop the last check digit and put in a carrage return. This used to be a simple matter of scanning three barcodes on my old readers but now I just can't make it happen. Does anyone have any experience of these units. The people that sold them to me offer no help and the Honeywell site is useless except for the PDF 216 pages that I am trying to get help from.

As we all know, FM's collection of SVG files available for button icons is rather limited. Having found others outside that set that match my needs, I've hit a roadblock for how to add them in. There is no import function, at least none that I can find. Nor can I simply copy and paste the files to the correct folder, which is located under the Windows Programs subfolder which prohibits manual file editing or pasting. Does anyone have a workaround? I can't find a ready fix, but is there a setting in Windows 10I need to make so it FileMaker Pro's keyboard shortcuts work? For example, when I want to align fields on the right edges in FMP, the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Alt + Right, but when I enter that keystroke it rotates the image on-screen to the right. Other keyboard shortcuts work, e.g., Ctrl + L to go into Layout mode. Ciao, Rich

Barb, good sleuthing to find out what the issue was. I have a client that is using FileMaker in an RDS Farm and is having Not Responding issues intermittently during the say, mostly in the morning. We are trying to make sure there isn't a network issue that is causing the issue and it appears not to be a database issue. Do you have any recommendations for the configuration of the RDS Farm? Or can point me in the direction on how to configure the farm for working with FileMaker Server and FileMaker client? Currently we are using FileMaker Pro 18 client and FileMaker Server 17. Hello, I have a filemaker server 15 advanced running on windows server 2008r2 in a local LAN network. I want to connect to server with client (filemaker 15 pro). Everything work well in the local LAN but I am unable to access to the database outside the office using internet connection and IP. I just have made the port forwarding setup (5003 and 16000) but no results. Maybe the Windows server need to be opened in some service or funcionality? Before of the server I had a simepl windows XP pc running filemaker server 5.5 and it work well also outside the lan. Thank you

Hello, I am using l am filemaker 15 pro advanced in windows 10 computer (64 bit, 8gb ram). I buy it few week ago and i converted my database from the old version fm5. The database work properly but it is very slow to open, about 60 second or more. I am working as standalone (no remote connection). I noted thta if the PC is offline (no network or internet connection) the database open in less that 6 second. It is very strange because I have not any ip configuration and any sharing option... what can be the problem? Thank you in advance Vincenzo

Anyway, I am currently putting together a solution for field collection of data and images using Filemaker on Windows 10 tablets. I ended up purchasing Lenovo Yoga 2 10.1" tablets and upgrading the OS's straight away. I couldn't find "the perfect hardware" for all day field work including photo capture, often in low light. The Lenovo's won because they were the only Windows tablets that would give me a full 10hrs use in the field without having to carry some belt mounted extra battery pack, and the camera is acceptable at 8MP. Hello: Can someone recommend a high end camera to take pictures of inventory and have the image stored in a container field. I'm taking images of inventory parts and need a high end camera so that someone can snap a picture and have the image stored directly into a container field. Hi All, Specs: Windows 7 pro SP1, FileMaker Pro 14, Java 7.45. I first install FMP 14 64bit. When I realized the 64bit did not work with outlook, I uninstalled the 64bit and installed the 32bit. The application works as long the user does not use any the pulldown menus in the toolbar. Example (File: Open Remote). The user gets a message that FMP stopped responding and needs to shut down. There were previous versions were installed. I had their IT department uninstall all previous versions of Filemaker Pro and reinstall FMP 14. The problem still exists. They are using java 7.45. We have a solution in a Printing company where everybody can access their email via my "print / email" script except for one guy. He get this error message when he choses "Email". When I ask him what happens when he clicks "Switch To" he tells me that he get a list of all different applications. My user has not clue nor do I. So I am not sure exactly what to say here. Can we help him ?? Is this an issue with their network and not for us as their solution developer ?? I have three machines now that are having the same problem. All use some form of Intel HD Graphics, built in. The problem is that large Edit boxes will show like duplicated lines, cut off words, white horizontal lines through text. If you zoom out and back in the anomalies disappear. From the googling I have done you need to disable hardware acceleration. That is cool except the Intel driver blocks access to it by greying it out in the properties. I have a windows inventory application to develop for parts and I need a way to produce barcodes and print them out as users are entering data for the parts. Can someone recommend a barcode plugin or a way to generate unique barcodes and a printer to print them out. I just installed FM Pro 11 on two Windows 7 (home edition) machine and I cannot see my main file on the server. I set up the Windows Firewall properly to enable FM Pro 11. Settings are ok with my main file. On the client machine, I can see the server but when I click on it, no name appears on the right-hand window. Do I need to upgrade to Windows Server? I have a client system which includes the collection of proof of delivery signatures using iPhones. The system is hosted on a server. The client has a mixture of Macs, XP and now Windows 7 users. The signatures are copied from the iPhone sub system into the main database using a server side script on a regular schedule. The signatures are visible on macs using the system, and were also visible on PC's using XP, but since the client upgraded to Windows 7 the signatures show the icons of the signature file only on the upgraded PCs.   Hi,   Need some suggestions and help regarding the Filemaker 11 files hosted in the FM11 server being get disconnected or communications with the host gets interrupted.   Though it is obvious that the cause is network gets disconnected or inconsistent internet connection lead to these type of issues.   But are there any more possible reasons that also lead to host interruption issue followed by host being disconnected.   Attached screen shot.    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.Â

OS is Win7, Server's OS is Server 2008 R2. I have a server + 3 workstations. From one particular workstation I can't connect peer to peer, or to the server, when I try to map a drive from it. However all the other workstations, including the server, can connect to it. Discovery is on, I have googled and googled but can't seem to fix it. On a win7 pc I have opened an Fm12 file. Sharing is on, and I have network access set to all users. The "Don't display in open remote dialog" is unchecked. When I use the open remote command from a client PC, I do see the IP address of the host, but it doesn't display the fm12 file I am trying to open. I know the network is operating properly, because I can access the folder on the host computer from the client. I can even run the FM file from the client without using the open remote command.

I have just recently started receiving this issue: When I open FMP12A for the first time when I boot my PC, I get the error message: filemaker cannot share files over the web because of a port number conflict. I follow the message and enter a random port number to try and get through it... following this FMP closes with no message or anything. If I try to reopen FMP, it will just close again. I have tried multiple uninstalls and tried to look around for solutions but no luck... Has anybody experienced something like this before? Cheers!

Hi All I was having sporadic problems with FM 8.5 on windows XP with 4 stations networked, after using it successfully for 4 years, which may or may not have been FM's fault. So I tried reinstalling FM on the main workstation (server) which worked fine, however none of the clients can connect due to "Number of users exceed limit". The number of users didn't change and I can see the server in the connect remote dialog box. It's as if on the UNinstall ( I used the windows REMOVE PROGRAMS) it didn't remove the users (?) and now it thinks there is 8 (?) Any clues? Or is the God's way of saying upgrade? I ran into a problem. The documentation states that FM 12 Pro does work on a Vista machine. I get the following error when trying to install it: You cannot install or uninstall FM on this system. I am running Filemaker 5.0.0.103 on my Dell Optiplex 745 with Windows XP and it runs fine. The reason I purchased this Windows XP based computer is because I could run my Filemaker version 5.0.0.103 on this machine with no problems. My question is the same now as when I bought this Dell computer and I still can not get an answer to my question. I was wondering if there is a way in Filemaker or even a plugin that I could grab information out of the active directory of the company's domain, one of the projects I have in mind is to create a table populating all the users in the domain, and creating a folder for each user with the exact name in a network directory, we currently have a VB script file in out server that runs every time a user logins so we can map network folders based on the users that's why I need to create folders with the same user so I can match the names, but I was wondering if there is a way to do it with Filemaker. Being a Mac user I'm not very familiar with Filemaker aspects on Windows. In the past I was very disappointed by two aspects of FM on Windows XP. One was that resizing a page in Print Setup would not allow more content to be printed, but instead it just made things smaller and chopped off content at the side and bottom of a page. However, when we scroll through records on the Remote Desktop, it has wicked lag time, between records. See a little lag on my desktop, but nothing like this. Hi, Is it possible to install two FMP11A license on the same machine? Most of you will ask "Why?" We are planning to install Remote Desktop Services on a Windows Server 2008 R2 to allow users to use FMP11 directly on the server. We have a volume license for the normal version, but not for the advanced one. Since we will be two developers, we need to work with the advanced version. Using remote desktop, we can't run a normal license concurrently, we need a different license for both of us. So like the title says, is it possible to install two licenses on the same machine or any legal work around? Thank you

Here is something very peculiar I have run into using Filemaker 11. My MarinaPro solution displays normal at screen resolutions 1366 x 768, 1360 x 768, 1280 x 768 and 1024 x 768 when FMP 11 is running on a standard PC under Windows XP, doesn't matter the brand computer or LCD monitor. I have a client with a machine running both FileMaker Pro Advanced 10 and 11 on Win XP SP2. Both have been running fine on the machine for months but all of a sudden neither will successfully launch. Both applications exit after the FileMaker splash screen. We've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling FMPA 11 (which appears to be a successful installation), rebooting the machine, etc. but the problem persists. Anyone have any ideas? I have a client running FMP 9 on windows 7 on a local network. All machines could see the server with the server appearing in local host. Now for some reason the server can not be seen with local host or favourite host....but on one machines you can open the hosted file using "open recent" but try the same on one of the other machines and it says the file could not be found. I run a MS Terminal Server farm that 1000 users connect to. Recently I migrated all users to a Windows 2008 Server farm with FileMaker Pro 11. Now each time a new user creates a profile on the terminal server and opens FileMaker it asks do you want to update to v2. Is there anyway to globally turn this setting off for any user that connects? Any help would be great.

I installed FileMaker 9.0 on my new laptop that has Win 7 Pro 64 bit. Everything seemed to load correctly but when I start FM I get an error message that says make sure you're not behind a firewall blocking port 5003. I uninstalled my MacAfee and opened inbound and outbound ports 5000-5010 for TCP and UDP in Windows firewall but still get the same message. Does anyone have a fix?

Years ago we wrote a vb script to shut down a client hosted peer to peer file in order to allow backup software to backup. Has anyone incorporated a good way to host a client and yet back it up while it remains open. Server does this wonderfully but in non server environments where a client has limited funds and only a handful of users i wondered if third party backup software will work or if inherent OS backup ignore file in use? thx

We are currently building a POS system using Filemaker Pro 11. We have a local printer (to be used for regular 8.5 x 11 reports and letters) and a network receipt printer for purchases. Our problem is that any letter-size documents get printed out to the local printer with the document specs for the receipt printer - with the result that we are losing the right half of all the 8.5 x 11 documents! How do we fix this? Nothing we have done so far changes the printer setup instructions getting sent to our local printer. A client of mine is using a program that was made with Filemaker Pro 6 Runtime. They want to be able to share their database across their network. I downloaded Filemaker Pro 7 and found it very easy to use... I had no problem sharing the 'installed templates' after installing on their network. However, when I converted the database made from the FMP 6 it won't let me share it with any users on the network... and when I try to use the 'open remote' function the file obviously isn't there because I can't share it. I set my application to run over a 2-machine network. For the first 6 month, everything was fine but I had to reinstall XP due to others issues. Before clearing my HD, I deactivated FM Pro 9 on the server only. Then I reinstalled XP and reactivation went through successfully. I'm using FM 11 Advanced on Windows Vista. The screen frequently "blinks" while in layout mode. That is the picture (screen) goes blank and instantly refreshes. This happens even when I'm not doing anything. It's quite annoying.

Hi all! I am new to this forum as I am working with FileMaker for the first time and one of my users is having an issue. He states that about a month ago, Filemaker started acting funny (ie: freezing, crashing). The program is locking up, but only when he tries opening with other programs open (ie: Internet Explorer, Outlook). At that point, he either has to close in Task Manager or if it is reallly freezing, log off, then log back on. I checked his computer for malware, could not find anything out of ordinary. I do not use Filemaker often but I am having a particular problem that I have not found a solution to yet. When I open Filemaker 6.0v4 on a Windows XP Pro SP 3 computer it shows the FM splash screen, all the fonts load, then TCP/IP loads and the status in the lower right corner says 'Successfully loaded', however at that point FM freezes and I have to shut it down using the Close option by right-clicking the minimized window at the bottom of the screen and I get a message that FM has stopped responding. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but that has not corrected the problem. Has anyone run into this situation in the past?

I created a runtime on FMP Advanced 9.0v3 that I sent to a Windows Vista machine. The main solution file had .app suffix. It would not open on the Windows machine. I had the Windows machine arrange the folders properly. How do I create the runtime so that it has the .exe suffix, which I understand is required, and are there any known problems with runtime solutions operating on Vista? Can anyone help... I am running Filemaker Pro V10 on a laptop running Windows XP. Filemaker used to work fine, but now as soonb as I try to load it, I get the "Filemaker must close" message. If I start my computer in safe mode, Filemaker works fine, but I need to use our network to access the two other computers which have Filemaker databases on them. Any suggestions are welcomed. I am running Microsoft Outlook as my mail program, and have noticed issues with this in the past, but even if I load Filemaker first after a reboot, it still does not work.

Does anyone know if FileMaker 8 is compatible with Windows Small Business Server 2008? We are using this configuration for Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection then run FileMaker 8 to connect to the FileMaker 8 server on another computer. It worked great with Windows SBS 2003.

HELP! I have rebuilt one PC on the network and it now endlessly loops on client-side processing in some reports. No other PC has this problem so it is obviouly specific to the PC. I have re-installed FileMaker (10 Adv), MDAC, and updated all the drivers for the OS. When generating a report that retrieves data and does the client side processing it keeps displaying "records to sort: 0" and loops forever. Has anyone heard of such a problem, or have a solution? If more specific information is needed, please let me know.

Hi, I recently bought a new laptop and it is a fair bit faster than the 3 yo one it replaced and has plenty of ram so am a bit confused why FileMaker is running about 10 times slower. It's making life a little frustrating to say the least. Apart from the older laptop having a slower processor, the main differences bewtwen the 2 laptops are that the last one was XP and no Norton 360 and this new one is Vista with Norton...(I'm using the same FM on this one as the last one) I'd really appreciate any suggestions as to what may be the issue... cheers

We are preparing to link to an existing Access Db. FileMaker is the owner of the data, and at this point it will be a read-only (Access reading the FileMaker data) link. Don't know if I'm in the right place here but I was wondering the following. During the implementation of a small database yesterday, I met some wise *ss claiming that Filemaker sucks because it uses outdated ODBC network drivers... So my question, how does Filemaker networking work. Does it use it's own technique/protocol, does it indeed use ODBC or is it based of something else... Info welcome.

I'm not sure where this question belongs, actually. I have two monitors now on my machine and I want to have one monitor with application A open and then create a second application on monitor B and go back and forth copying stuff, etc. However, it seems that every time I try to open the second FM program it just goes to the original one and won't open a second instance. Any ideas? I could open MS applications twice, one on each screen, but FM doesn't work. Thanks Mike

Hope this is in the right place. I would like to know what FM server version I need to get or which one is recommended for a small office network. Basically a server with 7 computers. I would need to have FM on all 7 computer plus server. Is there a server package that will cover all that or would I have to get FM server edition plus 7 separate licenses? Thank you.,

Hi - I am very new to this so please be gently with me! I have designed a very basic database interface and although I have followed a tutorial, I cannot seem to get the rolodex to work. The suggested script is as follows: Set capture error Enter Find mode Set field (Name last(Getscriptparameter)) Perform find If(GEt(lasterror-401)) Show custom dialog (no record found) Show all records End if I have then allocated the relevant letter of the alphabet to the corresponding button but when I go into browse mode, nothing happens. Anyone know an easy calculation for moving from one layout to another based on a value. For example, if the value in field is "1" go to layout "Names". If the value in field is "0" go to layout "Address". Thanks. Gary

I published filemaker database on the web. However people can only view the first 20 records when they do a search. (using list mode) Is there a way I can create a script that will allow them to view the next 20 records and so on. It is a public database so using the rolodex is not an option as it will confuse users. Any help is appreciated.

I've been surprised to find that FileMaker Pro cannot use multiple cores (e.g. dual-core or quad-core CPUs). We have a custom solution built in FM 6 with installer. The solution has been installed on thousands of computers with no problem and has worked flawlessly for almost five years. Now, in the past few weeks, we have had installation problems and, so far, Windows XP Service Pack 3 seems to be the only thing that is new and changed. Has anyone else run into this and anyone have any helpful suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, We are deploying a multiuser solution for filemaker. 5 user pack filemkaer is setup for each winxp and vista machines. And also one of them is running on win2003 server (server machine). The problem is some machines list the server name in local hosts dialog box, but we can not see database name after selecting server. Other machine can open the file without problem (same hardware, vista both of them) Then I tried to share with IWP. IWP can list database and connect. I dont understand what the problem is. I never have this kind of problem before with filemaker. What should I do?

I just upgraded my PC. Have the latest Intel Chip and with a GeForce8800 Video Card. Everything works great except FileMaker. It takes about 1 to 1.5 seconds to paint the screen every time I switch to my FM database. Can't be the monitors as they worked fine on my other older machine. Has anyone come across this? Take a look at this screenshot. As you can see I don't even have any files open inside FM yet it's chewing up 57% of my cpu. When I have FM open it bounces between 50% and 60% even with 0 files open like this. Any information on what the heck is going on here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm interested to know what percent of CPU cycles others are experiencing when using FileMaker Pro 9 (Client) on Vista or XP but Vista is perferred. Its connecting to FMPSA running on Windows 2003 Server We are using a unique setup with virtual machines and we are trying to figure out why FMP seems to just sit and eat up 100% of the CPU cycles when it's just open and not being used. Each virtual machine is configured as a single core 2.6 Ghz Xeon 1.5GB RAM. We gave a virtual machine 2 processors Dual Core 2.6 Ghz and it sits idle at %50 cpu usage. Does anybody try putting FileMaker Pro 9 (or other version) on a Windows XP eeePC ? The specs of FileMaker Pro 9 are : * Pentium III 500MHz or higher * 256MB of RAM * CD-ROM drive * SVGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and display The only problems are the resolution of the eeePC (800 x 480) and the use of an external CD-ROM drive. I don't think FileMaker Pro should complain about this, don't it?

Got a new tablet, Lenovo X61 to be exact, loaded, and with 2 GB memory dual core... Running windows Vista.... What a NIGHTMARE.... Installed FM 9 advanced on it and have been getting all but a headache. I installed on 2 other XP machines and things work seamlessly but with Vista ..... I have a database that has matured to the size of 120MB. The file includes the following and I was wondering if this is normal. 53 Tables 4 tables have 1000+ fields ea. 10 tables have 200-800 fields 250+ scriptes 140+ layouts 500 records in 1 layout 2700 records in 2 layouts 3650 records in 1 layout I have used the maintenance feature almost monthly to reduce by about 10MB each time. We have only been using the database for 8 months and it has grown to this size. Please advise

I have just upgraded to Windows Vista. I am having the same problem with both FileMaker Pro 8.5 version 2 and FileMaker Pro 9.0 version 1. After installing both versions they get as far as initializing then I get an error box that states that the program has encountered a problem a windows is closing it. Both version work fine on windows XP and on a virtual PC running Windows XP, I have uninstalled FileMaker and reinstalled it removed registry entries and deleted directories and the problem still exist. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a client who has somehow stored the login details to a database, and no whenever he logs he is not given the option of entering different account details. I assume that he can hold down the Shift key when starting the database, but how can he remove the auto login entirely? Thanks in advance

I have ten users whose copies of 8.5 Installed using the downloaded Volume Licensing installer. I don't have a boxed copy. Now one of my users has been given a new PC. Is there an easy way to transfer the licensed Filemaker installation to the new PC? The installer says the license key is invalid. Please don't tell me I have to buy a new license!

Am curious if anyone has used a POS printer with Filemaker. I have a bill of material application and I would like to print a small "part picking ticket" for our production department. The operator would enter a model number and a picking list would be printed. The list will have a maximum of 6 components so it will not be necessary to print onto a large piece of paper. Curious to know if anyone has experience with POS printers and if there are any special requirements for pages setup etc. It is my desire to use a printer that has an automatic cutoff feature. Presently I am considering a Citizen CD-S501AUBU-WH printer. Rich

In the Filemaker documentation , it says that up to 5 users can share a database - I would like to know if that 5 includes the host or not . I ask as I currently have a host with 4 sharers and need to add one more user - but I don't really want to have to but FM server - so is it 5 users plus the host? many thanks

Having a little problem here... I'm on a network here in my office. There are 2 computers. One was running FM Pro 8.5 Advanced, the other was running FM 8.5 Demo. They were both working fine, hosting with one, and remotely opening it with the other one. This is on a LAN. So, the demo recently ran out of time, so I installed the FM Pro 8.5 Advanced on that computer as well. But now when I try to connect while one is hosting I get an error message "File could not be opened. The hosts capacity was exceeded, try again later." Can anyone help me? I am a filemaker beginner, using Filemaker Pro 8.5, I understand there are limitations with runtime versions, but was wondering if anyone has found a work around for some of these limitations? for instance, I really need to be able to email a PDF from within the runtime solution I've developed; I also need to be able to sync data between 2 pc's and have discovered that's also not an option with the runtime version. Does anyone know any way to overcome these limitations?

Not sure if this is the correct forum... I have two laptops 1. Toshiba / 1.8ghz / 1 gb RAM / 256mb Nvidia Video Card. 2. Acer / 1.5 ghz / 500 mb RAM / 64mb Intel Video Card. Both running Windows XP SP2. Both with Antivirus and Spy Sweeper turned off. I have the same database running on both PCs. On the lower spec PC it takes 1.25 seconds to refresh a screen (a list with calculations). It takes 3.5 seconds to refresh the same screen on the higher spec Toshiba. The Toshiba also has a brand new Seagate Hard disk, just installed 2 days ago, so its nice and clean. Any ideas why the higher spec PC would be slower ?

Hello Everyone, Coming here because I can't seem to figure out what is causing this. I am working in FM 8.5 Advanced as well as FM 8.5 Pro. Just recently the screen has begun flashing, almost like a extremely slow refresh. I have attached a screen shot of what it looks like, but it would flash to this shot, then immediately flash back to normal. VERY ANNOYING. I can't explain what would be causing this and hope that someone else might have seen this issue. I have not really installed anything new in the machine. Any Ideas?
