I'm running FMS11 and am trying to connect to a FileMaker database with the PHP API, and I keep getting this error message. I have looked it up on Google, but the only hit that looked related was someone else asking the same question on another forum; the thread was a few months old, and there were no replies. -K

Is there a way to rename a database from the Admin Console. We tried to close the Dbase and rename the file in the finder but when we reopened it all the links to external storage images had been broken. Thanks

I have installed FMSA 12 (technet software for development) onto a virtual server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Service Pack 1 (64-bit). I also have FMA 12 installed on the same server. I cannot get the Web Publishing Engine to start. I can get the IIS7 start page to display. Below is the log file and the image from my Admin Console. I have followed the "Getting Started Guide" and "Advanced Release Notes" and I am at a dead end. I don't know what error code -1 is. Is there a document anywhere that tells me exactly how to configure the IIS Web Server for FileMaker? Deployment started at 8/8/12 2:20 PM -------------------------------…

Hello, I have had to open another server location that I CANNOT set up with a static IP address. This location is where I'm going to install FMS 9.0 (hopefully). I'm interested in seeing if it's possible to bypass the static IP issue for FMS by setting up a VPN network so that the server and clients think they're on the same private side of a LAN. Having never studied, setup, diagnosed or otherwise ever touched VPN, I'm very much in the dark on the feasibility and ease to do this. I know the filemaker Go clients might be an issue with this setup, given the VPN limitations I'm sure apple built into IOS. Here's other relevant details below: Server: intel Duo MacMini…

I just virtualized our FM9 Server on a 2003 server (will be bringing up a new 2012 server for FM12 server later). From a physical workstation I can access the hosted files on the server but on a Windows 7 virtual machine, I cannot. I can ping the server but cannot see any hosted files on the virtual server from the virtual desktop. The virtual client machine is using a DHCP ip setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello I am currently creating two databases using filemaker pro 12 for a hospital. The doctors and administration want to serve the file and they are willing to have a dedicated server for my solutions. I am just wondering, is filemaker server required to remotely host the files if they are on a server? Will I need a copy of filemaker pro 12 for every admin as well to access the file? The databases will be shared amongst 10 people as well. Thanks for your help

Hello everyone, I have a database (FM Pro 12) I want to access remotely via FM Server. I watched an online video posted by Wim Decorte on Youtube and followed all the steps, but for some reason I can't open it from my iPad. Like in the video, I was able to open the file in the same computer remotely but not from the iPad. In order to access the database from the iPad, I opened FM Go, tapped on Add Host and typed the IP address that I got in the server. All I get is file not found. Can somebody help. I am sure I am missing something here. Thanks. NR

AIM: I would like new users to be able to upload & start databases without interaction from the FMS administrator. Option 1: Is there a way to create/manage Administrator Groups in FMSA without going through the Java FMS Administrator Console. E.g. Automating this via a web interface using PHP or ASP.NET. Option 2: Alternatively, does anyone have suggestions about work-arounds that could accomplish the same thing without using FMS Administrator Groups. I.e. Allowing users who don't have an Administrator Group to upload/start databases.

I have a solution (filemaker 11 adv) which runs through filemaker server 11. Sometime ago, I disabled the option that does'nt show the file when using "open remote" command. Also.. I can't now "save a file" as the option is greyed out. I can't remember how to show the file when viewing remote files available.. Or to be able to save the file for a different name etc.. Please advise.. TIA

I and other users have been opening a Filemaker database remotely (using FM 11) without incident for over two years on a Windows server. All of a sudden, a few days ago, users outside the LAN of the college where the database is hosted can no longer open the database remotely. People on the network have no problem. This might appear to be a firewall problem, but my IT support person informs me that no settings have been changed for the firewall. Moreover, the server log appears to indicate that all those requesting access were admitted, even when Filemaker refused entry. I checked to see if old versions of the database that had worked fine would allow entry, but u…

I back up my databases every day using the backup function on the server. For the last two days I've been getting the following mesage: FileMaker Server 12.0.1.178 on FM12 Server reported the following event: 2013-06-02 23:00:00.414 -0400 Error 685 FM12 Server Error occurred while deleting backup folder "filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/Daily_11PM_2013-05-26_2300/", some files or folders could not be deleted. Hi, This looks strange to me last day when I found that our backup copy size just getting smaller recently. We host our databases using FMS 9 and schedule daily backup at non-peak hour over the night. One of the database file size is pretty large, which overs 2.5G in size. Our usual backup practice is to use FMS to run scheduled backup task and run script to zip the backup copy to a zipped file and copy it to an remote storage using some simple OS script. I found that the zip file size is reducing quite a lot recently, say from 1.92G to 1.86G. I thought my users must have deleted records with container fields content. After checking around, they said no ma…

I have just replaced my Apple Airport Extreme router for a new one with exactly the same configuration, however all of a sudden, one of the computers on my network can no longer see the URL of my Filemaker Server. So I can access my Filemaker server files from any computer anywhere, except for this one computer on my network. And even from that one I can access them if I use the local URL (10.0.1.14) rather than the universal one. It is invisible for both Filemaker client and IWP. I have checked the firewall and the same ports are open all over my local network. Anyone have any ideas on what may be impeding this computer from seeing this URL?

Hello, Â I've been trying to create a server side script that will run daily on a windows 2003 server using Filemaker server 10. The script is suppose to export it to an excel file. (I then what it to be emailed to me, but one thing at a time). It never saves to the file location on the server, i've tried every "filewin" combination I could think of. Doing some research and tried a $variable and still cannot get it to save on the server. Is there a windows settings that may be preventing filemaker server from saving to a location? Script picture attached.

The IWP session timeout on FMSA 12 maxes out at 60 minutes. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Our newly-deployed solution is used by some staff all day long, and I'm getting a lot of complaints about this. I found one GreaseMonkey script solution on the forum, but we have users, both Mac and Windows, with different browsers.

I migrated from Filemaker 11 Server to 12 recently. I noticed yesterday our statistics, which are updated through a server side script that sets a couple of global fields, were not updating. I tried several things: - stop the database server, create new records locally and then starting again, reran the script but the global fields were not updated - created a new script, recreated the task, but this worked without issues in FM 11 so no luck there - google google google led me to no known issues or behavioral changes with global fields in FM 12 Running 12.0v4 server and client... Anyone has any ideas?

Hello, I have a system running FMP 10 for IWP. OS is Server 2003. I have enabled the databases for IWP and ODBC/JDBC. All editing/updating to the database is performed on this system. Since the database is enabled for ODBC/JDBC, can a remote client connect to the FMP 10 system and query data (excel)? Exporting data from IWP doesn't appear to be supported. Is this a feature of FMP Server only? FWIW, I attempted to install the xDBC client from the CD, but it doesn't install on the Windows 7 X64 OS. I also installed "FileMaker ODBC Driver (64-bit) 12.0.79.0" and attempted to connect to the server system, but it failed. - Primary client based is Windows 7 X64

I have a few locations that are connected and usually just open the database file and it works. Today we started getting either the host is not available or the file is not available on that host. We just switched from using an MPLS to site-to-site VPN. I can perfectly see the server and everything but can't open my file. Locally I can open it no problems so I figured it's something with the VPN but I have no idea what.

I attempted to use this feature the other day to prevent remote FMPro databases from connecting and bringing down one of the servers I manage.  I tested this in dev but when I moved it to production - ouch.  The results were disastrous.  Some users could get into all 3 of the related files that make up the db, some could only get into 2 of the 3 files, some just got stopped at the front door.  Re-reading the instructions (http://www.filemaker.com/11help/html/passwords.13.33.html) I note this phrase "A file that you want to protect must be local; however, once you turn on protection, the file can be hosted remotely."  I am confused.  Do I need to apply this lo…

Hi all We're using some business software developed and running under Filemaker Server 11, and the clients are running Filemaker Pro 10. The company that developed the software, of course, wants to maximize the number of user licenses they can sell us, so doesn't have much interest in helping us with this enquiry. So I'm asking if it's generally possible - can Filemaker clients be logged off automatically after a set period of inactivity? Thanks Gary

After doing a Java update, FM Server 11 was dead. The technique here http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/88896-fix-for-issues-with-latest-java-updater-on-os-1068/ definitely got it working. However, I'd advise caution. I did this on 2 servers. One the first server, I didn't follow the instructions exactly - I failed to Restart when it said to. This resulted in two problems: * java process started using 200% CPU * filemaker server lost some of its config info: my backup scripts, and alternate file & backup paths were nuked. On the second server I followed the instructions exactly and all went fine. Moral: pay attention, and back up your FM S…

We run a set of linked databases on a FM Server Advanced 12. The links work if the databases are all in the same folder on a client, but when moved to the server and accessed from a remote client the links are broken giving an error "missing file" even though the databases are in the same relative place as they were on the client install. Has anyone seen this before? We had to move our setup off a Mac server as this was out of warranty, the same setup worked on the Mac installation of the server. Current setup: Windows 2008 server R2, Filemaker Advanced Server 12.0.4, remote clients all FM Pro 12.0.4

Folks, I'm having an absolute shocker here with users reporting Filemaker crashes throughout the day. We are running Filemaker Server 10 on a Win2K3 SP2 platform and we have a mix of clients on OSX and XP. Three of the windows clients are having issues where they do seemingly unrelated things and Filemaker will crash. The error messages received are - "An error occured during this operation" (very descriptive) and "An unsupported operation was attempted" (again...) Also we get the generic "Filemaker Pro.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close", windows thing. It is happening on three PC's, the other 40 or so are ok. I have tried the following …

We're using FMP11 Server Advanced on Windows Server with FMP11 on Windows 7 or XP computers or on a Windows terminal server. We're analysing the Server Event Log files to look more closely about how the databases are being used. The serve reports events such as 94 - Client "%1" opening database "%2" as "%3" where the % items are replaced with variable information, so %2 might become Parts List and %3 might be engineering. %1 looks usually looks something like Production (TS1) [10.0.1.8] Now we recognise (TS1) as the name of one of the computers in our network and [10.0.1.8] as an IP address. However the name at the beginning of %1 isn't a name we recgnise …

Hi people, (I'm new to filemaker in particular) I'd want to build a database and have it hosted externaly and let as many users as possible access it online. My question is reading a specification detail about a 100/250[ theorical ] limit of simultaneous users connected at an exact same time: - Is there a limit for the qty of "registered user" i.e 250 ? (that is user 251 could not register even when noone is connected) or will I be able to let some10.000+ users register a new account and my database will be accessible as long as there is only 250 connected at a particular moment ? *Note I am not too concerned about this 250 numbers in itself since I…

Hello, I'm new to FMS and I'm trying to figure out why opening a database is taking so long. When I open the DB over our gigabit LAN things work smoothly and the layout opens in 1-2 seconds, but if I switch to our Wireless LAN opening the same layout can take up to 90 seconds and if I try to connect via VPN from home then we're into the minutes time frame. All the calculations occur server side in FMS correct? So if it's sending the same amount of results data why does a drop in connection speed cause such a drastic change in load times, unless of course wer're sending a HUGE amount of data to the client. Is there a way to track how much data is getting sent to the cl…

I've heard Wim Decorte and Steven Blackwell say to not enable the "Automatically start Database Server" option in the Admin Console, and to use an OS-level script that runs when the server starts instead. What I'm looking for is an example of that script, which could possibly start the database server if the computer did not crash, or restore from latest backup if it did crash, etc. Currently I do not have a script to do this, so I have to manually start the database server after every server restart. Before I start from scratch writing my own OS-level script, I was hoping someone is willing to share theirs, or at least ideas of how to write it. I manage both Windows an…

I just had issues with FM 12 Server ( v.4 ). The Admin was basically unresponsive. I could not get the Clients to disconnect. My client still worked fine, so Server was running. It is Saturday Night & we did not have much activity today. So, I decided to take down the Server. The Admin would not do the job. I killed Services. I could not restart Server. The web page came up, but it would not let me get to the Admin. Prior to killing it, I would briefly see a message that said something like "Downloading application...". Never saw the details. I'm running FileMaker Server Advanced 12.04 on a Windows 2008 R2 server. Today I noticed that when I start the Admin Console I get an error and cannot manage FMSA: This happened before but so long ago I don't remember the solution. I do know that restarting FileMaker will not resolve the problem. I think it is related to a Java update. IIRC, there was some kind of temp band-aid fix that involved stopping all the databases and launching the admin console and then leaving it open and restarting all the databases but again, I'm fuzzy. I see there's a post in the MAC section with a similar issue (though the Admin console won't start at all), but the solution is s…

I swear that we read that FM 12 Server would not have any limits on caching. We are running Server 2008 (r2) on a Virtual Server. The virtual machine has 4 Gig. The FM12 Cache seems to be stuck at 2 Gig. I do not find any references to caching on the FileMaker Website, on the Server Pages, whichs seems odd. Pretty important stuff. We are thinking about throwing a couple more Gig at FileMaker this weekend, but I do not want to waste our Admins time, if 12 Server cannot use it. Has anybody gone over 2 Gig on 12?

My plan is the put the UI on desktop, using separation model with only Data served. There will be a mix of users accessing from everywhere, iPad, wan, network. Can I have a UI on the desktop for local users and also serve the same UI on the FM server with FMS for those accessing from off site? Of course I would have to make sure the UI was the same ... or would I? situation will be: 1500 users (not all at once). I'm attempting to set up our database on our network to be accessed via a remote desktop connection to our app server. RDC is how our company is currently set up to access our Oracle system and therefore this is how we would like to access our FileMaker database. I understand I'll need FMS on one machine, and FMP on the app server. To let multiple users logged into the app server access the database a FMP volume license is required, so I'm told. I'm under the impression a volume license is for multiple copies of the software …

I have a text file that I'd like to UPDATE/ADD to an existing Filemaker database on a daily basis. I have the file in the proper location and defined a $filePath variable in my script. The issue comes with the import mapping. The left pane is blank because it cannot pull any headers or data into it because the import file is on the server. That's OK, I set the order according to the order of the fields in the file. I then schedule the script and see what happens. The problem is that the script only ADDS records, it will not update them based on a matching field key. No matter what I do, Filemaker seems to ignore the double-arrow indicating that the import sh…

We are currently hosting from a VM that has 2x75GB SAN drives and 1x250GB NAS. We are running the OS and installed applications (including FM Server) from C (75GB SAN#1). Our solutions are currently being hosted on E (75GB SAN#2). Backups, both full and progressive, are being stored on D(250GB NAS). Would this be considered an optimum setup? I feel like it would be better to host the solution from C, do progressive backups to E (from SAN to SAN, since it's a more frequent transaction), and full backups to D. However, our IT department has been discouraging having our hosted solution on C. My take is that if the VM goes down, we'd likely be restoring from the …

Hello All I am in the midst of installing FM server advanced on a new server, because the original server is no longer stable. The old server is still working, but not for long. When I try to run the admin console, on the new server, I receive a license conflict with the old server. As you can guess, I can not shut down the old server, until the new one is up and going. There are mission critical files that are always being used. Has anyone found a way around this? Gil

I urgently need help with Filemaker server 12. I run a medical practice and have attempted to install filemaker server 12 latest v4. It installs Ok and then launches the start page but the admin console will not start. It displays a "Click here if console does not Start" but nothing happens. I have the most current version of OSX and have updated Java. Have also tried deleting the Java cache but all to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what I can try? I am at my wits end Joseph

Having a strange issue this morning. Users are all able to connect with no problem, and all seems fine. The weird part part is that I am unable to see them through the server admin console. There are 6-8 clients connected, and the admin console is only showing one. (and the connection time on that one is shown as two days ago.) This was all working normally when I left last night. Very very weird. Any ideas?

Is there less chance of file damage or crashing if I 1. Only work with both files of a separation model on my desktop 2. Serve the files to local network that only I can access and design in them from there using Open Remote. 3. Other ways? I figure if I crash, I will replace the files (separation) immediately anyway but I worry about served files potentially being more sensitive to damage even damage I may be unaware of happening. Do I worry for nothing? Either way I back up the files every half hour. If served, I will use backup schedule and if on my desk, I use Save A Copy As. I thought I read several months ago that working served is safer for the fil…

I want to know if FM Server 12 can update a external MySQL db in the same manner as the client can using ODBC connection (ESS). It works great when running the scripts on the client, but seem like it won't work in the same manner via server and server scripting. I am using all relevant drivers and it does work with my solution, but I'm looking to move, automate and schedule this process to the server itself. Thanks in advance. Michael

I am trying to upload some database files, and I am getting the following error: The folder file in:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/ does not have enough space for the specified upload or it does not exist. I have verified there are no space problems on the machine; there is 36+GB of remaining space (the file I'm trying to upload is a few MB). I've had Java updates completely break the ability to use the Server Admin Console before, is this at play here? I have tried doing this from running the server admin console both from a Mac (10.8.4) and from the windows VM hosting the server software (Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise), a…

Hello everyone, For maintenance purposes: Is it wise to schedule a task via FileMaker Server 12 Advanced to verify the integrity of hosted databases? I've checked the FileMaker Server manual and guidance appears to recommend using this feature if you suspect a database file is corrupt. I was wondering whether it is in fact good practice to verify database integrity, perhaps on a monthly basis at night to eschew performance issues. Many thanks in advance for your advice and comments.

Hi. I have actualized to 12v4 the FM Server (in Windows Server 2008) and my FM Adv (in a win XP) and now FMAdv can not see the databases in the server. Is it a problem with the actualization? More information: With the version 12v1 (in both sites) I was able to connect. I can connected (in the same LAN) with my laptop with Windows 7 & FMAdv 12v4 to the server. I uninstalled FMAdv install again FMAdv 12v1, and I was not able to connect. In the Win XP computer I have installed FMAdv 11v3, and can connect with a FM Server 9. With the XP computer I can connect by a remote desktop, VPN, CWP and ftp to the Server. I can execute the FM console (in my XP computer) and…

Has anyone installed .net 3.5 on their FileMaker Server 11 installation? Was it OK or was there any conflicts problems after the installation? We need to create some sort of bridge between FileMaker and a thirdparty program and the developers of the third party program have asked us to install .net 3.5 on our servers so they can create a connector between the two. Many thanks Abdul

We have a two machine deployment on Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS running FMS 12 v4 and our php apps quit after about 10 minutes. After restarting the worker system it works for 10 minutes and then again quits. The error message displayed in the log viewer after restarting for Web Publishing Core is "webuser PHP 401 565 when querying the database. This continues for about 10 minutes and then the browser displays a 500 internal server error and all 3 of the php apps stop working. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi all, Got myself in trouble yesterday. Hope there is a solution. I know I have obsolete material but it works for my needs. Hardware/software : xp pro sp3 up to date as of 2013/05/05 fms9.0.3 jre6u7 firefox 20.0.1 Situation : For the past few months I had no access (on my fms box) to fmadmin as I had inadvertedly updated my jre to an update that made my fmadmin to crash whenever I tried to select a specific hosted database. So yesterday, I tried removing that jre to replace it with jre6u7 which I know is the last one to work with fms9. As it didn't want to get deleted, after googling, I decided to use microsoft's fixit and I removed it but I a…

right now we have a windows server machine running filemaker server for 15 users. 4 macs and 11 pcs. the reason im looking for a different machine is because the server is in a small room and if we close the door it gets very hot in less than an hour and it starts to sounds very loud like a turbine, so we have to leave the door open all the time . one solution is to add an air conditioner unit but here in my country energy is very expensive , and that units is not for 24 hours working. the other solution is to buy a mac mini server with solid state hard drive, and 8 gigas memory . that mac mini doesnt get very hot and is very quiet and can be placed almost anywhere.…

I finally was able to instal with success FM Server 12 on a Windows 7 dedicated PC. I have the Server Web, Publication Web motor and the Database Server running. When I start the Wamp Server (basically a MySQL Server) there seems to be a conflict with the port 80. FM Server runs well but I need to instal on the same pc a MySQL server. If this does not work, I could run the WampServer on another PC and connect to it via ODBC but with the FM Server license I have I don't believe I will be able to connect via ODBC to that db on another PC. Or am I wrong? Thanks for anyones help.

I have a mac running Filemaker Pro 8.5 sharing files to other mac users on FM 8.5. I recently bought a PC running windows 8 and wanted to connect that to the Filmaker file, FM 8.5 wouldnt install on Windows 8 so I got hold of FM10. When you go to remote hosts it sees the mac running the FM file but shows no file to click on. If you try typing the exact URL in it says file is not found. I also tried copying the actual filemaker file from the mac to see if it would open and run on the PC which it does with no problem. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm trying out FMSA11 and trying to get server-side imports working using an external ESS MySQL data source. I have a single file "database" that contains several tables, one of which is the ESS sql database. My goal was to simply look for new records in the sql database, and then import these to another table. I tried to import directly (using "file:database" ) as the source. This gives a 100 error ("File Is Missing" error). From reading the forums, it's not clear whether importing from one table to another is possible server-side? (NB: my database is named "database.fp7" and lives in a subfolder on the server e.g. /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Datab…

We scheduled a server side script to run on our FMP 11 Server Advanced (running on Windows Server 2003) and forgot to set a time limit for it. Doh! The script has now been running for more that 36 hours, so we guess it must be looping or something. Unfortunately it is proprietory Filemaker code from a third party, so we have no access to the script to determine the problem. We can't stop the script because the server is the current user and won't log off. The server is a production system so we can't just stop it and start again. There seems to be nothing in the Admin Console that helps with this situation, and nothing in the Documentation or Help files about ho…

Using FileMaker 11 on a Mac, there are two files in the "FileMaker Server/Logs/" directory: stderr and stdout, which contain the console output of a bash script run via FileMaker Server scheduled system script. Is there any equivalent on Windows? I'm using FileMaker 12 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and I can't find the console output of my cmd script (when run by FileMaker Server scheduled system script). The reason I'm looking for this output is because my script is failing unless it is run by an Administrator account and I'm having a difficult time debugging it since I can't see the output/errors.

Dear FM community, I got asked by one of my clients to arrange some FM-hosting. As i have a dedicated server on a good line, i want to host it there (i like to keep control). My question is; What are the possibilities for managing quotas? In example: -Number of databases per customer -perhaps disk space/bandwith per customer I see numerous hosting providers which have these conditions, i came as far as administrator-groups, but i can't seem to limit anything there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Luuk

Hi, not sure if this is the right section but I'm hoping that someone has encountered this before, it's driving me insane. I'm running Filemaker Server 11 on Windows Server 2008 with IIS7 and PHP 5.2.23 (using FX if that helps) It seems that any page that requires data from my FM database takes ages to load. Any pages that don't require Filemaker load just fine. The main page I'm concerned about takes right on 90 seconds to load every time, and loads all the required FM data. When I access the database (either locally or over the network) there are no such issues with slowness, it's purely through the PHP pages that this occurs. I used the existing PHP install, I…

By Ken Moorhead of Excelisys... So, your client is running FileMaker Server, and they want their backup files to be stored in a shared or remote folder on the network so an automated routine can pick them up from another computer. And your client is not flexible about this; the files must be in the network folder by 3:00am or very bad things will happen! <insert doom mood music here> You then dutifully go to the FileMaker Server (FMS) console and type in the new backup path only to find out, no matter what you do, it is not a valid path. You are unable to have FileMaker Server backup to a remote folder, now what do you do? FMS can only back up to LOCAL folder…

Hello All, I recently ran into a problem with a FileMaker Server 11 installation that is running on Windows 2008 R2. After restarting the host server to apply updates users ran into problems connecting to the FileMaker Server. To troubleshoot further I looked into the FileMaker Server log, which strangely enough was missing about 5 hours of information. I looked around further and also noticed that the FileMaker Server had created a .dmp file in the logs folder about the time this all happened. This left me wondering what that file contains and whether or not it was a coincidence that it was created at that time. So I have a couple of questions that I have listed belo…

Hello, Wondering if anyone has experiences to share with FM server 10 v.1 - not being able to access admin console, yet files are being hosted without a problem. I have seen threads about unsupported java updates that could interfere with this and I have updated java to the recommended version, cleared all java caches, etc. We are on OS 10.6.8 server. Hello, I have a strange issue. We have created a small db that has a global table. We can do everything we need when the db is on a pc such as change global field data etc. Then when we move the db over to the server and then access the layout containing all the global fields, the fields will revert back to their original data. So we have 1234 in a global field on our layout that is from our global table, we then typ 567 in that field and close the db. When we open the db again, 1234 is back in the global. We do not have any type of relationship to this table. Any suggestions? Thanks, Michelle

Hey Guys, I have a couple quick newbie questions that I was unable to find from the FM site and searching around. Im pretty new to FM so these are probably pretty basic questions. I have been looking at FM to implement in our office for about the last year or so, have done a trial on a couple computers and feel comfortable that I will be able to implement what we need. Questions: 1) We currently have 10 computers - my understanding is that they just all need FMP and they can all communicate with the same database but to have over 10 users we would need FM Server? 2) It sounds as if you only need one FM Server to host the FM database and all computers w…

Windows Server 2003 has an requirement to purchase CALs (client access licenses) for each user or each machine that will be accessing the server. I'm trying to wade through Microsoft's documentation on this but maybe someone out there could just tell me whether or not this relates to running FileMaker Server. I think not, but here's the scenario: If I will have say 35 users connecting to FileMaker Server, this has no bearing on the number of CALs needed for Windows Server 2003, correct? I think I just need to purchase one CAL from Microsoft for the administrator of the server. (Note that I am not purchasing a machine that already has Win2003 on it. In that case I thi…

Hi, We are severely regretting the Filemaker Server 12 upgrade. It has been one issue after another since doing so. Most of the petty issues are worked out now except for one major recurring issue that we never, ever had a problem with in FMS10 or 11. We have a scheduled script that imports orders from 2 websites every 5 minutes throughout the day. This script and our server had run for 2 years with FMS 11 without stopping and without any issues of any kind. The machine was restarted on occasion for updates, but the FMServer never stopped running once on its own. About a week after upgrading, the script froze and somehow emptied Primary Key field in the entire …

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has compared access speed between local versus cloud hosting. I have a pretty intricate solution using many plugins and runs shell scripts. The servers are located in our office in NY and just opened another office in LA. I have our LA and remote users access via VPN. Trying to determine if access speed, returning records from queries is quicker if hosted in the cloud versus our current set up. I think the biggest issue is upload speed on our end and download speed in the user's end. Thanks, Michael

FMP 12 Server Advanced running on a PC server. Solution runs beautifully in FMP on my Mac and through IWP in Safari on my Mac. Near instant responses. However, when I access IWP through IE on my PC it takes almost a minute per page to load. It seems to be having trouble with the images in my layout, but they are small (just custom buttons) and they don't seem to cache. The speed does not improve after initial loads. UPDATE: Actually, I tested removing the images and it did not help. The IWP login page even loads slow on the PC only?!? Any help would be appreciated. Launch date approaches.

I'm running FMP10 Server advanced on our internal network - it runs on a Vista Professional platform. Our firewall router has been configured to allow access from the internet to a database running on this server through IWP and also from an FMP client on remote computers. This has worked reliably for several years. After a recent Windows update, the web engine has gone into a sulk, and keeps stopping after two or three minutes. In addition, when you use the open remote option from a remote FMP client the database is displayed in the dialog box, but when you try and open it, the FMP client complains that database is not available. I've made no changes to the rou…
