  2. I don't even know where to begin.  I have a db...In every layout for every tableâ��in spite of the fact that their parts all have a white fillâ��the background turns red in preview mode. I'm using 12, so if I change the theme, this doesn't happen, but if I change the theme back to classic, I get the red background again. I put white rectangles covering the layout parts and that helps; except at the part boundaries, you can still see red and there's nothing you can do about it.  Any ideas where to being troubleshooting?   3. I have added an additional TO to sum the withdrawals in a set of financial records by year, Withdrawal YTD column. I would like to show the yearly Withdrawal YTD sum in the last record of the year only and be blank in all of the other months in the given year, it may be Dec 31 or may not. All of the records would still be there, only some the values in the Withdrawal YTD column would be blanked. In this example only these values would show in the Withdrawal YTD column.   4. I have a solution with a text field that has a varying amount of text stored in it for each record. I am working on a print layout using two columns to print the records found set of this text field. As it is currently designed, if the text in the last record in a column is too long to be displayed in the column, it gets chopped versus wrapping. I have found multiple postings regarding this topic from 2008-2009 time frame, but don't see anything current.     I remember a while ago looking into creating a desktop shortcut to a file hosted on a server machine and it was a little more complex than I expected it to be. Has anyone had luck in creating a desktop shortcut that opens a FMP file over the network? I'd also like to use the icon I created rather than use the FileMaker default.   6. So i was cleaning up some user data entry and noticed some fields had errant returns in them - which of course is bad when the field is used in a relationship or value list. Managed to clean up the set of records - and thought the easiest way to prevent this is at the point of entry by making the return and enter keys also go to the next field.     I've searched through some other posts about this and it seems to be a Windows problem. We're using Filemaker Pro 14 and I didn't have this problem when I was on Windows 7, it only started after upgrading to Windows 10. *shrugs* Anyways, the scrolling through records is beyond annoying. We keep up with our customers purchase history in this program so the pages can tend to be long and we need the vertical scrolling (not scrolling through records.) The only thing I've seen in the other posts is using a program called KatMouse.     I am trying to display the preview from a dropbox file in a webviewer, but it doesn't display it as it does in my web browser. When navigating to an image file in DropBox via a web browser it has the URL www.dropbox.com/home/FOLDERPATH?preview=FILENAME where FOLDERPATH and FILENAME are variables. I copy this URL from the web browser into a web viewer and it doesn't load the same.. it says the folder/filename does not exist. I then paste it back into a web browser and it goes to the preview of the file as expected.     I need to have a solution to update my inventory list. In my example I have a table to produce with four legs and one table surface. When 100 tables are produced on day one it means 400 table legs and 100 table surfaces are used. I know I can add also new transactions in the transaction table but then it means the actual stock amount might not be always up to date when users forget to update the Amount_out in the transaction lineitems. The idea is that we’re going to be sifting through a database of orders, and essentially tagging each order with assorted variables. At the moment what we have is a fairly basic invoicing system, there’s a table of orders and a related table of line items for each order. The plan is that we’d add field(s) to the Order table for the variables we want to track, and then it’ll be a process of manually reviewing each order. I am using a web viewer to display a *.dwf file, which is an Autodesk file we use commonly for displaying drawings. For those who are unfamiliar, think of it as Autodesk's version of a *.pdf.   14. I'm using a web viewer to display a html webpage that allows the user to interact with it via java scripts. The web page works on a Mac running FM13 and FM14 with Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11. When I try to view the web page in a web viewer on Windows 7 running with IE11 installed, the webpage doesn't allow any interaction with the java scripts, and the web page renders incorrectly. I'm running FM13 and FM14 in Windows 7, and they both render the webpage incorrectly.   15. Hi all Since upgrading to FM14 we've experienced crashing (errors 1000 and 1026 in the error log). I thought perhaps it was to do with version 14 or .net or my scriptmaster plugin. However it appears to be to do with a filter that I had in place for a portal. It was probably just a coincidence that I had so many records that it was referring to by the time I did the FM14 upgrade. I can probably do without the portal altogether really, but was just curious as to what the problem might have been.     Hi, I have a design idea in mind that the only way I can describe it is nesting a portal within a portal. In my solution I have a case or ticketing system. I have a customer record in the customers table, and a case record in the cases table, and then a case notes table which holds multiple notes that can be added to each individual case. As a customer can have multiple cases, and one case can have multiple note records, I currently use the customers layout to go to the cases layout. Hello, Currently customizing a FM 14 invoice starter solution; I've added a new field "service fee" to the invoice details layout- when FM is in layout mode it shows properly aligned i.e. where I want it. However, when switched to browse mode it does not (shows to the very left of the "service fee" field label- you can see the tail end of data entry in the field "00" on the very left.. I've tried moving the field to reflect properly when in browse mode to no avail. Any thoughts on what might be causing this odd behaviour? Please see attached. TIA. Jack

    We recently upgraded from FMS 11 to FMS 14 and we noticed different behavior in our drop down lists. say we have a value list of the numbers 1 to 100 and we have a drop down list that uses that value list.   23. When upgrading from FM12 to FM 14, we are having a problem with the font size on our dropdown fields. Even though the field is set to a font size of 12, when the field is clicked and the the dropdown list appears, the font size very small, a 8 or 9 font size. I tried changing the field to a popup, but with the same results. It worked fine in FM 12. We are using Win 7. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    I do not know what to call the tab which reads BODY or HEADER. Sometimes it appears to the left and sometimes on the bottom of a layout but if I have a field label in a report and that tab is at the bottom so I can not move the label to even select it. Do people know what I am talking about? Also that tab changes the width of the layout and it is confusing. I want to set it to default stay in one place which is on the left. If you need I can provide picture of it. What is it called and where can I read about it in help and how can I set it stay on the left please. Current users are worldwide, using Roman, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean alphabets, and more. I've got multiple categories (e.g., food, gas, electricity, etc.) I've got it set up so that when I want to add a record, it's linked to a separate table to enter that subject's date and total spent. Those two fields show up in that category's layout in a Portal from the Payment table. So far so good. This is easy to handle in the per record browse mode, I can simply make a large description field that can hold up more words..     I'm trying to set one of my custom menus' label to be the Account Name, however I want this to appear in Uppercase, or possibly even title case if I decide. I've tried using TextStyleAdd ( get ( accountname ) ; Uppercase ) however it doesn't do anything, leading me to believe custom menus can't have styles added to them, which I suppose makes sense. I've also tried creating a new global field and applying the style to that field and using that field as the title override for the menu - nada. Any ideas on making this work?

I want to filter the portal to show only max of 10..   44. This post is simply to make others aware of a usage of placeholder text that I haven't seen mentioned before. We have situation where, when opening a popover to create a new record, the new record isn't created until the User enters data. However, there are a few auto-enter fields which are defaults and they do not display. This is confusing to Users since, from their perspective, that data should already be there - they don't fill it in unless they want to change the value.!   46. I've got a Subsummary layout. The layout is based upon the table, lets call it "Materials". The subsummary part is sorted-by the field "Type". Type can have say, one of three possible values in it: Glass, Paper, Plastic. When we sort this layout, we get subsummaries by the types, Glass, Paper, and Plastic, as expected. There's a script that performs some Finds, based on user-entered criteria, to narrow down that list. What I need to do now is have a script gather the IDs of only the records under, say, Paper.     We are developing a contract layout for a client. There is a modestly long header (260 its.), short body (26pts), but a very long footer that is one large text box detailing terms and conditions. Its boiler plate but they need it there. Since it is one large block it won't print on the first page. Instead in preview mode the bottom half of the page, below the body, is blank and the boiler plate starts on a second page. Is there a way to have this last large text block start on the first page and spill over onto a second page? How can I get this to format correctly as one cohesive document?

I would like to have the font size of a text field grow or shrink, based upon the number of characters or overall length of text, in order to "always completely fill" a text field to its boundaries. We've seen this happen here-and-there in OSX. I have one idea on how to accomplish it, but it seems "clunky". I am wondering if there's a better way. My idea: use Conditional Formatting to change font size, based on Length(Self). I'd need many, many of those "steps", say, 30 of them, if I wanted to account for every possible font size between 12 point and 42 point, for example. That seems tedious to set up, and not truly "dynamic". Is there a better way?

  52. We have a table of Suppliers. We also have a table of Tasks. When defining a Task, the user chooses a Supplier from a value list that is filtered by Territory. i.e. the Task will have a Territory defined and only the Suppliers operating in that Territory are selectable. However there are some Suppliers that work across ALL territories. I would like to have a way that these Suppliers are included in the value list for ANY territory, so if the Task has the Territory defined as (say) Sydney, the value list will show the Suppliers relevant to Sydney AND Suppliers that cover all territories. When editing a Value List, specifically, entering carriage returns, then copying the whole list to a text editor BEFORE saving changes to the VL, a text editor reveals a high-ascii character in place of the newly-entered carriage return(s). Only after saving the Value list, does this char "convert" to a carriage return. Curious feature.

    We have a database that's been upgraded from FM9 through FM14. It works great, except for today one of our users (on Windows) said that she was seeing gibberish on the Tab control. We looked at it on Mac and did not see the gibberish, but did see that the fonts were not being rendered properly (e.g. we have 3 Tab panels on the Tab control, and all are set to Trebuchet MS 12, yet one shows as Trebuchet MS 12, but the second and third are showing up as Arial or maybe Helvetica. I have series of scripts that bulk imports the file names & folder structure and creates a collapsible hierarchical keyword structure that is comparable to the folder structure.   60. I'm using Filemaker to keep inventory of personal digital video including many on youtube. I store urls to youtube videos and launch them within FM's Web Viewer. When I advance from one FM record to another, the new url launches the different youtube video, however the audio from the previous record continues. Is this a bug? or should I be using a "clear" or "stop" command in a script that I'm not aware of.

    Hello I have a layout called "follow up" its a reminder for jobs wether COMPLETED or require FOLLOW UP. I have a Name sort script on the layout already via a dropdown and when i select a NAME that persons records only are shown. This works fine. I have a HOME (First Layout show data from Company Dashboard) Layout that opens upon login . On here i wanted to add a portal to FOLLOW UP and the portal to filter automatically the current username records only . I could then sort them by FOLLOW UP at the top and Completed below Whats bugging me is i just cant figure it out, Thanks for any help

    Over the years—and particularly for FM14—has anyone come up with a user-convenient way to toggle spellcheck on/off for a particular entry field? Spellcheck is so simplistic in Filemaker that it flags partial words that are being typed ... plus all urls ... and occasional supporting references like "libeay32.dll". Ideally, there would be a toggle button somewhere on the GUI. But how can you achieve that effect? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

"file:/" & Get(DesktopPath) & "testpopup.html" However, if I copy the code from that file and paste it into a field codeHTML and then use the following webviewer calculation "data:text/html," & codeHTML, then the popups don't work.     FileMaker crashes when I choose field picker for a specific table which happens to have a large number of fields: 226. I don't know if that's the issue, but Flied Picker doesn't seem to crash for other random tables I tried. I'm using the latest version of FM 13 (.0v9).     I have a basic form with edit boxes. Some can be edited in browse mode and others can't. I've noticed when I click on the form, the edit boxes which are editable are highlighted with a bunch of tiny dots around the field borders.   72. I have 20 fields that can either be "Yes", "No", Maybe, empty". Each field is controlled by a pop-over button with those 4 choices. When a choice is made, I want the pop-over button to be a color associated with the value (Yes, No, Maybe, or Empty(no fill/color). The duplicate is created ok, but the Go to field step switches panes making the default tab the top most. Without the Go to field step the switch stays on the pane. What gives?

However, I never did figure out how to make the track averages and have FM calculate my speed figures. I'd like to give it another shot, as it will save me a tremendous amount of time.   85. I've got a simple relationship. Customer->Order via customerID as a foreign key in Order table. Typical operation, I want to jump to the record that I click on from the portal row. When I put a simple button with a script step Go To Related Record on the portal row it works properly. When I create a script with GTRR and some other steps in there attached to that same button, it always brings me to the wrong record. I've even tried grabbing the OrderID from the portal row and performing a search, but it always grabs the wrong Order ID. I've experienced this before, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I can get this variable to print on screen in the web viewer so I am sure it is performing properly. I collect the the latitude and longitude of the southwest corner and northeast corner into java variables. I am able to print these java variables on the web viewer. Based on the text entered into the second (or third, etc) field, I need the program to auto-populate several other fields with info from a previous record (within the same table) based on the entered text.     Hi, I am currently trialling Filemaker Pro 14 with the intention to create custom layouts for particular data sets. I am using the standard Product catalog and the Products layout. For example I would like to create a separate layout for specific Product Categories. I create a script but it returns all records, it does not filter the records based on the field value.     I want to create a check box that has two main items, from which a user can select one or more from one of the main items, but cannot crossover and check from both main categories. I would prefer to keep a single field. For example main category: "Apples" possible check boxes' red, tart, small, fresh OR "Oranges" navel, blood, tart, large. They would be allowed to check one or more but cannot mix apples and oranges.

  100. I'm using FMP 11 on a Mac running Yosemite. I have a button that says "Editors" in my "Submissions" page, and a portal linking to my "Editors" database. However, it was showing that the "Editors" field was unrelated. After establishing a relationship between one field in my "Editors" database, the database was considered relevant, whereas before it would say that the "...target was part of an unrelated field."
