Opening field picker crashes in FM 13.9 in moderately large tables (e.g., 120). Any ideas how I can resolve this issue? Compacting the file didn't help.

In Matt Petrowsky's video on all things new in Fm 16 , the very first new addition is a new calculation workspace where we can see the results of our calculation. i.e. there is an additional pane in the work space where results can be previewed.( see attached pic). I can get to this workspace from the Data Viewer , but when I try to get to it from Define Fields dialog box, I just get the regular calculation workspace. What Gives ? Why is it not everywhere ? Is it me or is something wrong? It seems FMP 16 has gone the Albino design route of Office 2013. All white, NO contrast whatsoever in the status toolbar (at least in windows 10). No option for a darker interface. How on earth could they do this? Did they do this on the Mac also? (My guess is too much design aesthetics in the Mac world to allow this. Heck even Microsoft gave a darker interface in 2016. Whoever did this, should be fired. Go to work with the windows 8 guy somewhere far away.... Miron

Man, am I frustrated with the current update, which I am reminded about every few days when I start Filemaker. It asks me if I want to download, does not download the file to my designated Downloads folder, and then tells me that I must close Filemaker in order to proceed (see screen shot). When I close FM, the update stops of course, and I end up without my update. Three days later, this whole little scene plays out again. This is one of the more unintelligent updates I have encountered in my day. If I knew the filename and location of the update when it downloads, I could go get it myself, but I have not been able to find it on my own. Are others troubled by t…

I've got a global container field that is used so users can drag and drop whatever file to store into our document management system. It's used more as a staging object so the scripting can pull metadata from the file and act accordingly. hence the global storage. Using OS X, a user can drag a single page from the thumbnail area of Adobe Acrobat/Reader onto the layout object and it processes the single page PDF as it should. But the same procedure under a Window environment does not insert the PDF into the contain. When they left hover the thumbnail over the container object, it shows the plus icon as it should. I did not see a more specific topic to ask this question, so I apologize if it should have been posted elsewhere. I have a user who has just transitioned from working in the office to working from home full time. She has the same laptop that she's had for a couple of years, which she mostly uses for Outlook and FileMaker. (Primary work is done on a separate laptop.) Hi I have a problem with my filemaker solution, I have an EMR based on filemaker 15 pro advanced, I recently purchased Surface pro 4, as u know it has a very high resolution, the problem is the dropdown list items are extremely small to the point that I couldn't read despite the actual in field font is normal, I googled the problem and the only solution I got is to update the version to 15.0.2, which I did but the problem still there, the attached photo is a snap shot of the problem, so If u have a solution for this other than messing with windows recommended zoom (200%) and filemaket zoom, please help me.

I'm a botanist, and the tables I am working with are for tracking botanical garden collections. The data represents plants in the garden, and the plants are tagged and show up in the database. The tables I am working with were created in FMP 7, and I'd like to open them up in FMP 11 (or later.) The system hasn't been used in years, but still has valuable information. One of the tables is giving me problems using the FMP convert and recover commands. These tables are all inter-related. I am working in a biology lab and have developed several basic databases using filemaker 11 to help the lab organise their stocks of chemicals and so on. We have a fairly onerous excel sheet that we have to fill out for registering certain new reagents we make with the regulatory authorities and as these are a pain to use, they are not filled out regularly enough. Hi, A client of mine has an Windows 2008 Server which runs an SQL Server. Because he doesn't have another machine and (Due To some reason, my client do not wish to mess with current SQL database structure), so I will like to ins tall FM 11 runtime onto the same machine, The runtime solution is to schedule login to SQL server to perform importing / filtering and exporting data report. I and most of my clients are still on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003. I have several FileMaker executable files (solutions) developed using FileMaker 11 Advanced. Will these run on Windows 10? I have FileMaker Pro 12 installed on four computers on my network, and FileMaker Pro Advanced 12 stored on a fifth computer. There is a shared database stored on one of the first four computers. When using the shared database from the fifth computer and I attempt to check any of the checkboxes for the field Events, I see the message shown in the attachment and I am unable to check the checkbox (This behavior occurs only on the fifth computer). If I then do a search, after doing the search I am able to check any of the checkboxes in the previously problematic field. I've restarted the fifth computer and the problematic behavior stills occurs. Any suggestions?

I'm getting the attached error messages when trying to modify records in a file. It's appears as though there is some protection in place, privilege sets etc, but there isn't and never has been. I've tried recovering the file to no avail, is there anything else I can try? I haven't accessed this file in approx. 6 months, but have never had issues before and I'm the only user of the file.

I have a MacMini running macOS Sierra with FM11PA that works; however this FM11PA was installed when there was MacOS X 10.10 on the MacMini. Attempting to install FM11PA on my MB15R fails, well the installer appears to work fine( as pr attached image, ) but launching the app( as pr attached image ) tells me somebody has been fiddling with the installation and that I have to reinstall the application.

I'm running Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro just so I can continue to use FileMaker Pro 11. The software is owned by my client, which doesn't want to pay for an upgrade, and is used by two other people, one of whom has a PC. So I'm getting pushback on the idea of upgrading FMP right now. On the other hand, I have to use other apps which require using Yosemite. So, before I install Yosemite anyway and then find out FMP 11 won't run - has anyone had experience with running it on one of the latest Mac OS's? Our application is very simple. We just keep a database, do searches, and run simple reports. Thank you!

I would like to see if anyone could help me to verify if the problem I am having is a bug in Filemaker. I have recently upgraded my network from Filemaker 13 to 14. In 13 I did not experience this issue. It seems that in Filemaker 14, when a particular Hindi character is pasted into a Filemaker field it crashes the database. I have tested this on numerous machines within my network with the same result. I am hoping that someone will run this simple test for me and report back if it happened to them as well. I didn't see any subforum that's specifically devoted to FileMaker as a product. If this is in the wrong place, sorry in advance and feel free to shush or move me. It's a few years since I spent money on FileMaker, but I'm considering recommending it to a public library and am bewildered by the current store offerings. I expected to find renewable annual licenses for 4 or 5 seats of FMP, 1 of FM Advanced, and then talk about the pluses and minuses of hosting on 1 seat of FMS. Instead, I'm finding group subscriptions, no mention of Advanced, but something else called Developer. Can anyone point me to a rundown of FMP's current suite of offerings?

I have found an unusual situation using the Close Popover script step. I have slide panels on a layout, and want to use a popover button to switch between them. If I use a script that just uses a Go to Object step, the panels switch, but the popover remains on screen. Fine, I said, I'll just add a Close Popover step. When I do, the popover erases, but the window jumps back to the original slide panel. Have i, as I often do, overlooked something obvious? Can someone help with a workaround? The FMP 15 crashes randomly after every 2-3 days on windows systems. I have checked the issue for the fault module in event log (Fault Module Name: mshtml.dll) and some place i checked it was suggested to reinstall the application, which i have tried multiple times. But the crash still occurs. Is there any possible solutions to avoid it ? Does it have anything to with the application running a hosted filemaker files or is it a system issue ? I am modifying the Invoice sample that comes with FM to provide some basic Inventory management functions. Works pretty well. However...I really need to be able to order a product in 2 ways : (1) (Kit - ISBN) and have that deplete and ship all of the parts that make the kit. I hope I am allowed to post here for FM11 Pro Advanced on Win 7. I am struggling with the Code shown below. (mainpath = location statement for $filespec) ROT is the Destination Folder on my Desktop. After Final Testing, the Destination Folder will be elsewhere on my PC. I have a business unit within my company for whom I set up a quick time tracking database about 6 months ago based on the time tracking system that my business unit has been using for years. I have a script that is supposed to open a URL. Instead, it opens a folder on my desktop. Two script steps: Enter browse mode; OpenURL. The field that the script uses is a text field and contains the web address that starts with http://. Why should it be opening a folder? I can't find a setting anywhere to control this.

To those of you living on the bleeding edge of FM 15 on Windows, I am wondering if there are any notable improvements specific to that platform. In particular, I wonder about two things that I have found perpetually bothersome: 1. Confinement of FM windows within a larger master application Window (akin to Word for Windows 3.1). 2. I have developed an app on my Dell Win 10 desktop. When I run it on my Surface Book Win 10, I encounter all kinds of screen rendering problems. The screen interface does not display totally. If I click around on the interface screen with the mouse different parts of the screen will display. It is I can almost paint the screen with mouse, but never get the full screen display. Any ideas how to go about fixing this issue? The only white spaces in the image should only be the fields, these other whites spaces that are not fields will change location as I click with the mouse on different places.

Many times, there are smaller tweaks which have taken place in a new version which are not specifically posted in the 'new features' section. Simple curiosity to understand ... when I open a file in 15 and go into Manage Database and then exit again, sometimes FM displays 'rebuilding dependencies' even if nothing has changed, I've simply opened it and closed again. Sorry for this potentially simplistic question, but I have looked into several options and can't find one that works exactly. My issue: I have created a word count field that calculates the word count of a "Content" field for each record in a table ("Notes"). I am trying to figure out how to calculate the sum total of that word count value across all records in a found set. Any ideas on how to best accomplish this? Hello all, as the subject says unable to install trial version of Fm 14 on a win 7 based pc with 4 GB RAM and i3 processor. After some googling I understand this to be a bitness problem. My pc is 32 bit -- but the installer seems to be only for 64 bit. Maybe the trial version does not have separate installers - quite defeats the purpose of a trial version in my opinion. I am logged in as administrator - but even then the error keeps coming up. Error is something like " Unable to install or uninstall filemaker on this system.Please refer to system requirements in the installation instructions for more information". Please advise.

I've noticed since installing El Capitan that my various mac systems are doing a horrible job in rendering type. Specifically I'm seeing type getting clipped along the top. I've seen it on multiple solutions...multiple layouts...and on two different mac computers. This started happening recently and I think it dates to the installation of El Capitan....though it could date to FM 14.05. It's not impairing use but it sure looks tacky. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi all, I'm summarizing line items of sales records. Items are charged in more than one currency, so I'm sorting/breaking the report by currency. I don't use a body part, only summaries, so that, for example, 85 sales of product xyz are shown on a single line per currency. The next line might show 34 sales of the same item in another currency. This works fine so far. In the trailing grand summary, I'd like to show the total like so: Total sales, US$: 2346.50 Total sales, EUR: 3562.52 This doesn't work the way my parts are set up, since I can only have the number field calculated once and FM just adds up all the numbers regardless of the currency. …

This should be a easy one to answer... Recently imported an excel file and all of the formatting was off. Looking at the table, I need to select everything in a field (column) so that I can center every entry in the column. How do you do this? I tried selecting the top entry, hold down the shift key and then select the bottom entry, but that didn't work.

Hello, I have a user running Filemaker 14 on Windows 10 that when they are using our database in Table View and scrolling, clicking on different records records begin to overlap each other. Which will get worse as it progresses until scrolling completely out of the current screen and then scrolling back. I have attached a video that shows it better than what I can put into words. It was also working the same way on Filemaker 13 on Windows 7, I also changed computers, exchanged monitors and mice, none of which fixed the issue. I assume it has to be something the user is doing? Any help would be appreciated. Problem.mov

I normally use FM 12 Adv. I downloaded and tried FM 14 trial version to give it a try. I then uninstalled it but the files with the fmp12 extension have lost their program association with filemaker. They no longer show the FM logo. Filemaker does not show up in the Windows control panel that sets the default program. However, double clicking any fmp12 file starts FM 12 Adv as it should. A typical file is shown below. How can I restore the file associations?

Im using FM12 on a mac and FMGo on the iPad, Im the only one using the db and wondered if its posable to copy the db to iCloud or put it on my Qnap NAS drive and use the file from there so as I can access it when I'm out and about and access the same file when I'm home avoiding the need to sync. If not what is the best way to do this please. Thanks in anticipation.

I am having a weird issue going on that is best explained with pictures... In the data viewer, and even see it under Manage Database, there is a weird font appearing. It replaces the hyphen and underline with a box looking character. Normally I wouldn't care too much, but when I use the field value and past into a calculation, It seems to take the box character and not hyphen. This means if I try to pass the Contact_id in some sort of html web viewer call, it won't work. Hello, please can someone help me out. I am trying to install a copy of Filemaker pro 14 on my windows system, My system is already installed with Pro 13 advanced, I have tried to uninstall it prior to installing the version 14, but I can't see filemaker on my programs list for uninstalling.. When I use "open file" or "open remote" it takes a very long time to get to the dialog pane. Once there, all is good. Is this just me or do others have the same issue. BTW i am using MAC OSX 10.11 El Capitan but this is not an option to change in my profile.

I have a client running Windows Terminal Services. Users use Remote Desktop from their workstations to log onto the terminal server. Last night I upgraded the server to FMS 14, but left the clients on 12. There are no server-side scripts. The terminal service workstation and the FileMaker Server are each installed on their own virtual machine. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; 14GB I have a script in my solution that checks for plug-ins being registered. Hi From a script I am "saving as PDF" to a windows server ( from a remote Mac) and windows users are reporting a corrupt file - or at least a file which doesn't show all the text. Has anyone else had this issue? EDIT: this occurs if I save to the desktop first then copy to the server. thanks John

Has anyone come across issues upgrading from v11 to v14? The Filemaker website says I can use my existing FMP 11 Advanced install to qualify for the lower priced FMP 14 Advanced update until 25th September. However, it won't install and keeps on saying it can't find a qualifying product, even when I use the Installer Browse function to identify the version of FMP 11 Advanced currently in use. My version of FMP 11 Adv is itself an update version from an earlier install of FMP 10 Adv. Could that be a factor? Hello, all. As most developers know, FileMaker stores a lot of its code pieces in XML snippets. I wanted to see and store these XML snippets so I have created a simple FileMaker app for doing so. Check out my latest blog post at http://iamandrewdavis.com/index.php/2015/09/01/filemaker-code-storage/ to see what I have done. In my sample app, you can scrape FileMaker's internal XML from the clipboard and store it in a table. It's a great way to store scripts, tables or layout objects. This will affect many people who use Webdings, Wingdings for low-impact graphics and bar charts, as well as rectangles. Graphical fonts will no longer render on Mac. http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/0f6fabd1e1 And I confess it makes no sense ... I have a new Mac with Maverick and I have Webdings no problem. Just installed FMPA 14 two days ago and running it through its paces. I may have found a bug but not 100%. I have a script that will email my clients their account info and password by Send Mail via Email client. This IS performed with dialog so I am expecting to see a window pop up with the email I am sending - however nothing happens. When I run the script on the 14 platform (tried in both Pro and Advance) no dialog appears and I get a -1 Unknown Error when the Send Mail script step is fired. This script works flawlessly in 13. Hi Everybody: It has been a while since my last post, I hope everybody is doing just great! I have been wondering if I should upgrade or not, it has been a while since my last upgrade (to 11), which I am still using, works and serves my purposes fine and seldom crashes. I downloaded 14 trial version, converted my files to try it out, no complains but also no wow's! It worked just as fast as 11 (even if locally, I did not install the server trial version, lack of time). Start up was slower that 11 (Computer Pentium G630 2.7 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit). Hello, We have a simple Filemaker solution which tracks stock we order from suppliers (Item ID (unique Key), Description, Category, Invoice, Serial Number, Date, etc) which we used to track stock and print labels from. (Table: Stock Items) I would like to make an improvement to this by adding a stock take functionality. As we barcode the items and print the Item ID I would like someone to be able to walk around the shop and scan each barcode and then we can generate reports from there. Obviously though, I do not want to upgrade a whole production environment if FileMaker 14 is not as stable as 13. What have you experienced with 14? I have been a long term user of FileMaker Pro, since v3. I have recently introduced it to the accounting manager of the small company where I work. Recently one of our minor servers was attacked by a ransomware virus--CryptoWall. It started with the Excel files on the drive. Now it is hitting PDF files. I have moved my FileMaker files to my C-drive. My question is has anyone known FileMaker files to be subject to this. We have Sophos on the servers, and the accounting PCs have McAfee.

Now don't jump all over me for using repeating fields. I have done this in other FM tables but I've got a new one where it just isn't working. I have an itemization list and cost in separate repeating fields, 10 reps. I've done this before where I create a calculation field get the the Sum of the cost field. Sum(ItemizationCost). But in this new table it's not getting anything past the first iteration of the field. I've tried various other scenarios all to no avail. Everything is in the same table. Any suggestions?

I have a client who converted an old solution (FM5) to FM13 recently. They have found that some Find script steps, that used embedded criteria, have the operator missing from the step. It may just be limited to ">" operators, too. (I haven't have a chance to look at the files yet, but a couple of printouts show this to be the case.) I'm still using FMP 10. Well, I was until a few days ago. I made the mistake of deleting my FMP from WIN7. No worries - just re-install it. It keeps asking me for a 'qualifying product'. Although I have the CDs for a few earlier versions, I cannot find any of the associated paperwork; so, no luck. (We've been moving from house to house for a few years and lots of stuff has gone missing or been buried in unrelated boxes.) Please don't nag me about backup! According to the Tech Docs at Filemaker, it is possible to deploy the FileMaker app via Apple Remote Desktop. Unfortunately FileMaker makes it extremely difficult to find the actual files on their website to do this, but their support was able to provide a direct DL link to a .zip file that contains a shell script that SHOULD in theory allow me to create a packed installer that I can deploy to my Clients via the Remote Installation command available in Apple Remote Desktop. Hi, Am doing my first project as a beginner with Filemaker Pro 12 and am stuck at a point. Please help me out on what to do. am using these fields in a portal: Opening Stock, Closing Stock, Quantity Received, Quantity Sold and Stock Balance So for the first step: Opening Stock = Stock Balance then for the other steps or next inputs: Stock Balance is to = Quantity Received - Quantity Sold.
