Hi I know that FM can generate QR codes and read the data contained in them. What I am wondering is can it also be made to embed the data in a QR code into the metadata of an image? We photograph school events and need to make the images searchable on our custom shopping cart. We currently create our own QR codes and photograph them, then the student. In Lightroom I have a plugin that reads the code, then adds the data to the specific IPTC field. The problem is that this plugin is no longer developed or supported and while it still works, should it die, I'm stuffed. There are no alternatives that I can find. Hi, I am looking for your opinion on a 2D scanner sled for the iPhone/iPad series of devices - so that the unit is self-contained. I have played with a few devices over the last couple of years, but found some are clunky (and sometimes unreliable) in terms off have to load Bluetooth drivers or their own SDK. Whilst I realise that this may be the only way to go, the fact that sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not is not a good solution when you have need to deliver a product to the client. Does anyone know if there is a sheetfed barcode scanner that could scan a bunch of barcodes on one piece of paper? I can use an iPhone or iPad to scan one line at a time but the concept is to feed a piece of paper with a list of barcodes and have all barcodes on the page scanned. Scanning them one at a time is not a practical solution.

I have a database that stores compuerts, printers, etc... Each device has two different barcodes on them, our companies, and the serialnumber that it came from. I have been successful in using our Ipads to scan the barcodes and put them into the system as numbers and letters, no problem. Now I would like to have a search button that scans a barcode and then takes that barcode number and searches for it in the database. I am confused on how to do this. Just found out Filemaker 14 is out and still NO SIGNATURE CAPTURE for filemaker pro (was expecting to come in Filemaker 13). We just upgrade to filemaker 16 thinking we will have better performance on our barcode inventory database..... at the time we scan barcodes in a fast way, fm16 leaves some readings incomplete... for example when scanning 10 same items with product number 802312 in a fast way , we got the first 3 records with 802312 and the next 7 records with 2312 ... filemaker 16 miss the first 2 characters... we had to downgrade to fm 15 .... i would like to know what could be the problem? We have for many years (of forgotten and unknown reasons) put a zero in front of all 12-digit bar codes so that all bar codes in our FileMaker database appears as a 13-digit code. Our products in the database are from suppliers from all parts of the world and some are using EAN, while others use UPC. I need to separate them, so they will reflect the original barcodes (UPC (12) / EAN (13)). We have approximately 33,500 items in the database. How do I do it?

Hey... So I want to play with barcoding and scanning. Maybe have different departments scan a barcode on a job bag to update job statuses, etc. Before I thoroughly investigate this process, I thought I would ask the community about any experiences, etc. I guess my thought is that the a barcode could be a button. Howdy, all: I have a "dumb" barcode reader that connects to a USB port in my Mac; I'm running FileMaker Pro Adv., v.14. As is, it captures barcodes just fine when the cursor is in a field of an existing record, but I have to create an orphan record, first, before the barcode can be captured. This is a little inconvenient to users since they need to push a (virtual) button, first, to fire a script (that creates a record) before swiping their card. I'd like them just to swipe in and out as they enter or leave the lab. Is there a clever script (or plug-in) where as the card is scanned, a record is created and the barcode field is then populated? Matthew Greger has a good example database, which uses Google Chart API and 360Works' ScriptMaster. While it works with his file, I couldn't move it to another database. Hi Guys, Was hoping that you might be able to help me out, with further integration of a Motorola Barcode scanner. As it stands, I've set the barcode reader up, to first transmit a keypress ⌘1 (triggering a script), then transmits the barcode, before transmitting an Enter keypress to start the search. In principle this should work, however on around 50% of the scans, the script doesn't trigger fast enough, before the barcode is then transmitted, leaving incomplete or incorrect barcode values being entered. Version 12 broke the input streams for barcode readers. Best of my knowledge that didn't get fixed then. I never found a solution. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet on 14. My new job has limited use for barcodes, but we do a little. Does anybody know if this has been fixed in 13 or 14?

Hello, I am trying to get filemaker pro 13/14 to store bar code scanners. However for some reason fiemaker is not recognising the scanner. I am on a windows platform and can see the scanner under devices. I wrote a simple script - see below and have seperately used the onobjectsave and onlayoutkeystroke script triggers but neither has made any response. Hello, I have an inventory system that has barcodes for each item, individually. However some of these items are inside of cases where the contents are always the same, and there are too many items to efficiently scan all of them. I am looking to create a way that would allow me to barcode the outside of the case, and when scanned into the portal it fills the portal rows with the items inside the case and not the case's barcode. So scan case, display contents in portal row. Let me know if you need any files or screens for helping. Thanks

It has been a fantastic project for me and I really appreciate all your help. I found a rather old forum posting that offered a download of a plug-in in order to interact with a Magtek scannner. I downloaded the demo. I'm getting a message that plimus.dll is missing. I messaged the author but no response after a week. The software that I download does appear to some of the funtionality I'll need. See attachment. Hi Is it possible to create QR codes on my filemaker solution that I can print to a dymo label. This then can be stuck onto a product that I supply a customer. When my product needs replacing all my customer needs to do is scan the code using his smartphone and the code then email's automatically requesting a replacement product. Does anyone has experience with InsideScan? Just implemented taking pictures with a webcam and it works flawless. Takes picture, crops it 3:4 portrait and saves it to disk under a specific name. Very nice. Except that the image quality is super bad compared to what I see in the viewer of the twain driver. After the plugin processes the image, skin tone is purple, blue is orange and dark green is lime color... Suggestions welcome.

Hello everyone, In my solution I'm adding a barcode system and I want to make in a way that the user will have only to: click "New record" point the barcode gun to the barcode that's it. I want the record to be committed automatically after the "beep" of the barcode gun (as many other system do). There is any way to make the field commit the record after input the seventh digit in a field? (I specify 7 digit because my barcode system has 7 digits). Thanks :P

Sorry to ask this kinda question but I am really new at this (have been using fm 8.5 for a few years now) I have just opened a shop created a basic till and booking in system. I need it to open the cash draw, do I need a printer (epsom example) or can I some how connect it directly with a script? The draw has a rj11 connection. Again if I do need a printer can these be turned off as we generally don't need receipts. Also, I am interested in a bar code reader can this also be connected? Sorry it this is too much lol

Attached is a barebones Barcode4J implementation. This one requires Java, but runs without ScriptMaster. The solution automatically deploys the required JAR files to the temporary directory. 13 different barcode symbologies are supported (selected from symbology drop down menu). I have almost completed a solution to use FedEx Web Services, at the end I get a response from their API with Raw commands that need to be sent to a thermal Printer (Zebra LP2348) to print the shipping label. I have successfully sent the received raw commands to the printer from the driver command line, but now I need a way to do it directly and automatically from Filemaker to the printer. Any ideas? Quick overview: We are setting up a 2D Bar Code scan for Car Titles, using the AAMVA standards. The 2D Format is PDF417. We are using the Honeywell 4600r reader/scanner. We use FileMaker 11 Client & Server, v2. Windows Clients & 2003 Server. After messing around with this for a couple days, I'm pretty close. We had to turn on the Honeywell Windows Mode Control & ASCII Mode. If not on, the data is just mushed up. No line feeds/carriage returns & not all fixed length data. I am looking to: 1. input barcode info into a field into a "products" table, associated with a record - 2. capture a barcode at POS and input that product into an order with the least amount of hassle (keystrokes) and deduct 1 from our "products" "instock" field after an order is closed... 3. on the fly capture and deduction from inventory with the minimum of keystrokes (sell a cash product---deduct 1 from "products" "instock" field . I have searched for both topics and I have not found a definitive answer: I have been using FM for the past two years. The DB is used for equipment checkout and inventory to students. We have been manually entering the Student ID and then the Product ID. They now want to go to a barcode system which will barcode all products based on my product ID (i.e. TRP1241) and also create ID cards for the students based on their current ID number (i.e 98023123456.) I just purchased the 128 barcode program from Brian Dunning with the understanding that the code 128 barcode would be compressed and therefore easier to print on labels that have a limited amount of print space. To my suprise, I find that a typical 3of9 code prints out smaller than the 128 . . both using a 12 or 24pt font. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or did I misunderstand about the compression of 128.

For some specific data entry I have it setup so that barcode scanning happens in a pop-up window. I want that window to close once the barcode is entered and validated. Any suggestion on doing this? This category isn't too active but hopefully someone picks this up. I need to generate barcodes via IWP. I have been using IDautomation's barcode generator plugin which is great, however when using IWP, if try to load a layout that contains a barcode, IWP crashes on the server side. The developer tells me that it was never tested with IWP and they don't actually know if it would or should work. Any suggestions or alternatives would be much appreciated. Thanks

I've purchased and gotten the Lifesuccess.org barcodet to work with mixed results. I'm using them with a Zebra printer with labels that are 2" wide by .5" high the Code 39 are working (specifically the Thin 18pt) I'd like to know what style/code might be more narrow. I'm experimenting but not have much luck. Also is there an alternative for FileMaker that might not be font based but is easy to work with? Delicious Library is a very cool app, and one of the things we acquired for using it was a Flic Cordless scanner. Works great with Delicious but I can't seem to get it to work with FM. Has anybody had any success?

Hey fellas! I am looking for a wireless scanner / PS2 compatible scanner which is able to make a wireless scanning of bar codes and is supported under the Filemaker Pro database. This should be handled at events which audience will buy tickets / get a special card for. I didn't found much options, but from the few I do seems like the most impressive one is from a company called Toptix which is specializing in ticketing solutions but there is no mention of FM in their clients / partners pages at the website. Hi I want to print out code128 barcodes from Filemaker 8.5. I found several free code128 fonts online for windows and installed them. When printing in that font the barcodes so made dont work with my reader (at all). All these fonts seem to come with a little "conversion" program where you can type a word and "convert it to barcode code 128" and then if you scan that barcode, it works with my reader. What am I doing wrong? Is there a free or cheap way to print Code128 barcodes from Filemaker (WinXP)? Thanks

Hello all, i am currently working on a Point of Sale System for a small Bar. The Problem is that i need to provide some sort of Inventory for the Drink Items. Its easy, if you purchase a 30 Liter Barrel of Beer, and then sell them out in 0.3 or 0.5 Liter Glasses, but my Problem lies within Items such as say, Vodka Cola, that consist out f.e 20ml Vodka and 250ml Cola. What i need is, when i enter a Vodka Cola Item into my Sales Order, it can show me the consumption for both Vodka, and Cola. For now, i added a recipe table to my Item Table, that displays the "linked" items and their units required, but thats where my wits stopped. How do i get these Items for Cola and …

Hey Everyone, Has anyone tried a wireless barcode scanner solution? I was wondering how it would interface with FMP. The information is stored in the gun and when you dump the data, does it create a new record in FMP for each scan? I really need a solution that is mobile in that way. The second option is to look into some mobile palm device with FMP mobile, however, I hear they are discontinuing that product line. Any ideas? Vandy

I have a dymo lablewriter twin and cannot pring. I've set up a new layout (specific for the lable size), added the right fields, and it doesn't print. The labels do come out, but they are blank. The label writer works w/ different software, and the labels print fine on a different printer. This is making me nuts. If you can help me, you'll be my hero! thanks. Hi, I wonder if someone may be able to help with this. We are using a database that has already been created and that has a barcode field. The database has been passed on to us and we have just installed a barcode font (purchased from peninsula) and now we seem to have a strange problem. The old entries show the barcode fine but the field remains empty when we create any new entries : . Has anyone any idea why this might be happening? It seems strange that the calculation works for the old entries but not the new ones!! TIA

Hi to all ! I have a strange issue I have FM Pro 8 Advanced and a scanner 2D label. When I scan a label with 2D label, Filemaker always automatically add 1 more record (I don't know why). I try this same process directly in Excel or a text editor, and I have no problem. The text label that I read from the 2D scanner has 73 long size and the database field type is text Any idea?

I'm an ancient dBase programmer and I have designed a few business applications in FM a few years back. I now have the opportunity to design and sell a retail POS Golf Course solution which would involve scanning member's barcoded IDs, indicating type of service (9 holes, 18 holes, gas cart, etc.) collecting money, issuing receipts and submitting reports at the end of each day. Can FM handle this kind of frantic activity in terms of speed? Is it a good solution for retail services? Can it be compiled as I could do in dBase. Thanks for your help.

Anything out there I can integrate with my FM8 order procesing / job DB that will take info and print US Postage? We do fulfillment for several customers and print address/return labels - it would be cool to put the postage on there too and have one label to put down instead of two. I am working on a project where we assign mail batches to our processors and then send the batches out to the processors. We put a date sent on each of the mail batches. The user wants to be able to put a barcode on each mail batch that will enable them to use a barcode scanner to check the mail batches back in when the processors are finished with them. Each mail batch has a unique identifier field so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't have any experience with barcodes & FMP so I am not sure how this works. We are using FMP 5.5 on a PC. I am using the FileMaker Mobile, FMM, on an iPAQ hx4700. I am receiving a fifteen digit numeric string from an RFID reader via a bluetooth connection. I am using the wedge TWedgeCE to convert the sting. Using Postfix={RETURN} will enter the data and trigger a find. In Browse mode, it leaves three line fields or carriage returns. What are the control sequence characters or the parameter settings to allow data to be entered to a field and perform a find and in browse mode enter data to a field then move to the next field?

Can someone point me to a good resource for information about FMP 8.0 compatible Code 128 barcode readers? Or do you have a barcode reader that you love or hate? I don't need a wireless handheld device. A simple scanner "gun" with a desktop stand should work fine. I can't figure out if I need a "keyboard wedge" or if a simple USB reader will work. Help!! I need to know what wireless Hand Held barcode scanning devices are compatible with this software. I would like to recommend it for a client that needs to scan vials and have the barcodes and thier converted description stored via the scan. I am looking for someone who has used Symbol, HandHeld or Intermec bluetooth cordless or network wireless scanners in conjunction with this product!! Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong section. I trying to find a plug in / solution in which I can attach a USB barcode reader (Windows) and scan a driver's license (in NJ they now come with all of the driver's information in the barcode on the license). I would then want to parse that information into the appropriate fields such as Name, DOB, Address, etc... Is anyone familiar with any particular products that I might find useful in doing this. hello, guys ! i have a question regarding pos. i hope some one can give me an idea. when i input datas into barcode label , do i just input unique serial # ? or do i input some other info datas , too ? if i input only serial # , i will be able to isolate the one particular item but then after i receive all the items , i will need to enter all other detail infos into fmp inventory table ( for ex - price , description , model # , etc... ) is this right way ? or which way do we handle this ? happy face

There has been a lot of posting about bar codes. A lot of suggestions are made but I'm not sure what to use. What bar code plugin would you advice to create EAN 13 barcodes. Ideally it would work with fmp 6 through fmp 8 cross-platform (and in runtime too). I'd like to avoid barcode fonts. Have checked out Brian Dunning 's site but no EAN13 over there. Hi, Can anybody help me with creating a calculation to generate the checksum digit for EAN-13 barcode? I know how it gets worked out. The calculation needs to consider the 12 digits in the number as even and odd, where the first digit from left is even. Then: 1. sum the digits in all odd positions and multipy the result by 3 2. sum the digits in all even positions 3. sum the totals calculated in step 1 and 2 4. The check digit is the number which, when added to the totals calculated in step 4, result in a number evenly divisible by 10. 5. We use order enveloped provided by a manufacturer that pre-prints barcodes on them. They are in Code 11 is my guess. When the read with a scanner, I get C115500C, 115500 being the envelope number. Is there an easy way to strip the C's out when the are placed into a field in FM7?

Seems like the plugins I've tried (grab, InsideScan, MyTwain) all support scanning a 1 page picture into FMP. But I need a way for my (lazy) users to easily scan a multipage PDF and dump it in a directory and pass the directory on to Filemaker. Insidescan seems to get closest, but only gets 1 page and doesn't support pdf. I'm using FMP 8 and it can be on Win or OS X... Any ideas?

But I could not find the exact answer i am looking for, This is the situation I am making a big archive with several photos for each item...I made this by relational tables... The problem is that,, I want to scan the photo directly in to the record, because this will create a new related record in another pictures table....And this is really hard to do by hand...I want to ease this job for my users... Good Afternoon, I'm working on my first bar code solution in FMP. My reader terminates with the Carraige Return/Enter key. This will perform a find if I am scanning the search criteria, however aside from the finds, I'm hoping to use barcodes for data entry purposes in browse mode (tracking production progress in a manufacturing environment). If I'm in a script that is in browse mode and pausing (using the pause/resume script step) at a field for scanning (and moving on) the Carraige Return/Enter key does not resume the script, it merely starts a new line in that same field. I'm working on a solution for a local karate school. Their students are issued ID cards that have a magnetic strip on them. The card contains the student's id#. I am building a solution that will allow the student to swipe their card and create an attendance record. My problem is that I said this could be done assuming that there was plenty of information out their about getting it to work. I have noticed Stanley mention that barcodes can trigger scripts. He even posted the code for [ctrl-1] for use with code 3 of 9 as being *$H1$J*, unfortunately for me that does not trigger my ctrl-1 script in filemaker using the same barcode font. What I'm hoping to do is have a list of barcode script triggers (ctrl-1, ctrl-2, etc) so each employee can scan the specific task (script) and then our physical job ticket (invoice number). I am trying to develop a pos solution in FM6. I recently got a Star receipt printer SP512 and attach it on to the serial port of the computer. While the printer is recognized under "Printers & Faxes" in Windows, I cannot get it to print even the test page. Anyone has the solution to this? Any suggestion or help is appreciated.
