Hello, Here I am once again fighting my particular war with conditional value lists. I have several car fleets. Composed by cars that can have one or many owners. Where I'm stuck is when on a day plan, I select the fleet I'm going to work on, and once selected (everything seems ok till now) I want to choose (via conditional value list) any owner of that fleet. I can't accomplish this last step. As always I try to explain my idea as good as I can in english, but I don't get it all the time (sure comment is going to quarrel, hehe, it's a joke). Hello Sorry for the question... certainly asked numerous times. I am spending two days trying to understand the concept but didn't catch the idea to implement it. My database is a medical invoices one. I know this is "out there", but I must be muffing the search criteria so my apologies for this being covered elsewhere. I have two related files (by StudentID number), Application and Student Database. I've set up a global field in Student Database where a user clicks on its Menu-style value list to show the names of students in Application; what I want to do is show the names of students (from Application) who don't have an existing record in Student Database. I'm working on a timesheet solution where the user selects the "Role" that they're performing from a preset list of values, and then I want to populate a list of possible values for their "Task" based on their role. Role table includes a field called Billing Category (with 5 possible options). Task table also includes a field called Billing Category. I believe some of the functionality of creating value lists in Filemaker is broken when you want to display values from a second field for a relational database when using Value list subsets created by a case statement. Let me explain. I have a relational database that contains a list of Stakeholders in a table. Some of these Stakeholders are considered to be suppliers (consultants, contractors, etc..). I have a major table that I'm trying to integrate into a drop down menu option - get values from field but I need some help with this... The table has 3 fields, Year, Make and Model (Aircraft), so the values look like 1990 Cessna 180, 1990 Cessna 190, 1997 cessna 150, etc etc I'm trying to create a drop down wherein the user first selects the year (menu items calculated from the year field) then once a year is selected, only those makes from that year are shown, then model, only those models from that make is shown. Hello, This is likely a very easy remedy to this but it escapes me at this time. I have a value list configured as a radio button selection- has two choices - either "no issues" (default value) or "issues". I have a Value List with names of our "partners" (each name on separate line). I have a database with a "name" field. I'm just trying to setup a script to run and check if the "name" matches a names on the "partners" value list. But, no matter what I try, it never comes back as "true." Any advise? FM 12. I’m using a value list to insert an id from the first field and to display a related name from the second field. I want to use a drop down list to display the name only. I thought I read somewhere you can place the name field over the id field to do this but I can’t get it to work. Any suggestions? Hi! Sorry a bit new to this still, but I have one table which contains several variables: DateOfConsult and ConsultType (InPatient or OutPatient). I have a layout for data entry in Form View and second layout in a List View. In the List View, I wanted to create a dropdown menu showing the DateOfConsult and the list will show all the people who consulted for that day. For the value list I have two objectives: 1. Hello everyone, Really excited with everything I have learned recently about FM. But I think I hit a brick wall. I'm building a database for a private book library, and I got to the Author field, which turned out to be slightly more complex than I expected. Most books only have one Author, but there are quite a few with two or more Authors. And some of those are collaborators, not necessarily Authors, but I still want to mention them and their roles. Really complicated (or at least I think it is). So, I understand that the best way is to have a single Table for Authors, where I will enter everyone, either they are main Authors, Co-Authors, Illustrators, etc…

I am new so please be patient. I am trying to figure out how populate a filed based on a conditional value. I may not be stating this correctly so I will explain. I have created two databases one called "committees" and one called "committee membership". The committee table has the unique id filed "committeeid", "body", and "committee" fields. the committee membership table has the same plus fields for "memberid" and "position". I have a value list that includes the "Personnel::UID" of all managers in my personnel table. (Determined through a self-related table where "Personnel::Manager" = "PersonnelSelf_Managers::UID". I included a screenshot of the relationship.) I am using a value list with a person's affiliation. They consist of offices, commissions and committees held. I know where to go to edit the list. When I print a report it prints phantom values. There are a couple that I originally created but do not see them in the list nor are they assigned to anyone. When I print the report it shows the value with no one tied to it. Has anyone come up with a way to nicely add a couple of static options to a value list generated from a field? For example, assuming I have a field that I'm using to create a value list. I want the exact same value list, but with "All", "Mine", and a separator to appear at the top. I figured out a way to create a value list that includes "All" and "Mine" in addition to the names in the field the values are drawn from, but the words appear in their alphabetical order, not at the top. My fallback solution is to have radio buttons for "All", "Mine" and "Values" with the value list only showing up if the user selects the "Values" radio button, but this wouldn't be a…

Aloha Everyone, First off I'm ESL and my gramma is not up to par with an English major. Second, I'm a photographer and not a programmer. Hi guys! I need to make a drop down list depending on a value selected, here is what I have: Basically I have a database for assets. I need to store the location of where the asset is, depending on the city it may have different factories, so the asset is in one of those factories. So for example, the city of Miami has 3 factories, when I register a new asset I must pick the city and then the factory in where it's gonna be. I would like help designing a drop down value list which filters the list based on what is already type in the input field. Hello, I have a problem with making a filtered value list work. I want to have a drop-down list in one of my portals showing only certain records from a related table, but I can't make it work. I have (for the purposes of this problem) 3 tables: "Quotations::" "Line Items::" and "Products::". "Line Items::" is the child in both relationships. The table "Products::" contains all of our stock, not all of which is for sale, so I would like to have a check-box field that allows me to include the item or not in the value list of sellable items. Hi please can someone help me solve my issue I created a manufacturing solution that to every product one can select its ingredients from a pop up menu in a portal. the portal then take you to the related ingredient page where it has additional info about the ingredient my issue is when i created it there were only a few products so wasn`t such an issue scrolling down the list to select the relevant ingredients, but as the solution expanded and more products were added the ingredients list became very large and one has to scroll through several 100 of ingredients to select the one he is looking for. i would like to break up my pop up menu , ie one…

Right now we select the item in the drop box and then manually type into a comment box about 20 other items that we need. I would like filemaker to help me. I have added an additional TO to sum the withdrawals in a set of financial records by year, Withdrawal YTD column. I would like to show the yearly Withdrawal YTD sum in the last record of the year only and be blank in all of the other months in the given year, it may be Dec 31 or may not. All of the records would still be there, only some the values in the Withdrawal YTD column would be blanked. In this example only these values would show in the Withdrawal YTD column. We recently upgraded from FMS 11 to FMS 14 and we noticed different behavior in our drop down lists. say we have a value list of the numbers 1 to 100 and we have a drop down list that uses that value list. If you have Auto Complete OFF you have this behavior: click in the field - scroll down and choose 50 - click out of the field - click back in the field and the drop down list will already have 50 selected and you can easily click on 51 as it is next in the list. I have been creating a sports card database. I think I've got all the bugs out of the main database and the feeder tables. Now I'm on to working on getting the finial reports/tables from an idea to a working filemaker table. So, this is what I have in mind. I want a table that at the top, I have Manufacture, Brand, Year, Card #, and Sport. This table would pull from the other tables to get info. We have a table of Suppliers. We also have a table of Tasks. When defining a Task, the user chooses a Supplier from a value list that is filtered by Territory. i.e. the Task will have a Territory defined and only the Suppliers operating in that Territory are selectable. However there are some Suppliers that work across ALL territories. I would like to have a way that these Suppliers are included in the value list for ANY territory, so if the Task has the Territory defined as (say) Sydney, the value list will show the Suppliers relevant to Sydney AND Suppliers that cover all territories. Ideas?

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. Has anyone else noticed this? When editing a Value List, specifically, entering carriage returns, then copying the whole list to a text editor BEFORE saving changes to the VL, a text editor reveals a high-ascii character in place of the newly-entered carriage return(s). Only after saving the Value list, does this char "convert" to a carriage return. Curious feature.

I have an employee database set up and I'm attempting to set up a scheduling module. I'm no stranger to conditional value lists, but this has me stumped. This should be easier, but I am having a small issue on how to limit records in Drop Down. Currently, I can not get File Maker from showing all my records within the Drop Down. Even when File Maker has a limited found set. See attached fmp12 file Help. I am new to FMP so this maybe a pretty elementary question for some of you. What I want to do is have a dropdown list that is defined by certain options that I have pre-defined. In my example these would be Serial key, Credentials, keygen, or patch. I have been requested to produce a report consisting of Employee Names, each with the single task assigned to them. I have a large DB table ALL_TASKS where each record is a unique TASK_NUMBER, and each record has an employee assigned to it (EMPLOYEE_NM) from a value list (unique values from the field EMPLOYEE_NM). There's also a lot of other summary data assigned to tasks, like time to complete, etc. (Tasks are added sequentially all the time throughout our work day). I’m on Windows 7 w/ FMP Pro 13. My issue: the text in my checkbox fields is randomly being truncated whenever I print (directly to a printer or to PDF). See attached image; highlights are areas where text is cut off. There does not appear to be a pattern. I had temporarily solved the problem when I turned all checkbox text from Arial to Tahoma, but the problem came back (even though all checkbox text is still Tahoma). Thoughts?

If one sets up a field to validate as 'member of value list' AND If that value list is custom and it includes a dash separator THEN ... typing a dash in the field will PASS validation. It seems that FileMaker gave a single hyphen a special role as separator but forgot to handle it from validation context. Please see attached file. Clear the drop-down on text1 and type a dash in it. I envision some User wanting to select 3.75 (the line between two values) and can't so they type dash in the field. It's the only character outside of legitimate values that is accepted. I have a need for a value list that updates when I update the master list of values in another related table but does not globally update all records where the list is used. For example, I have "customer" table with radio buttons of various subscription rates that are populated by a value list in another table of "subscription rates". Hello, This is the situation I have a problem with: Two tables - contacts and projects, linked by a joined table to display linked contacts/projects via portals. Many of my contacts can be present in a project, and a contact can be present in a row of projects. I got it working via manual entry of the project IDs and contact IDs. Basically this is fine, but I expect to have a large number of contacts in the database, so that it will be quite inconvenient to enter only the IDs. The final amount of products is about 200 so they are divided into 3 categories and about 15 subcategories. There is also a field for the failure key. This is also a conditional value list based on the product. I cannot find the right article related to this so if i use the wrong terminology I apologise. i have a list of circuit breakers with fields for their model number, type. Amp, max test value. in a test sheet form I want to select the breaker "model number" from a value list, then the popup list in "type" to be populated from the related fields in the "model number". I have a database in which data could be in one of two places. This tracks games between two Magic players, and Games::FirstDeckName holds the name of the deck that pays first, with Games::SecondDeckName holding the other deck. I have a layout that presents the user with a means of selecting any deck that has played any number of games greater than 0 (Matchups::Friend), then selecting from a list of only those decks that participated in those games (Matchups::Foe). I'm confused as to how to make the filemaker "type ahead" feature work. I need for the field in my table to lookup values from my value list but by typing it out instead of being a drop down menu. and then if the name is not found, It needs to be able to go create a new record in the other table. I remember doing this in the past but just plain forgot the method. I have a "text" on a layout which asks for one of two checkboxes to be selected (i.e. Answer= ☐Yes ☐No). As it is now, both checkboxes can be shown as "checked" (or "not empty). I want it to be set up so that if "yes" is checked and then later "no" is checked, the checkmark in "yes" will disappear. In other words, only one of the two boxes can be checked. Additionally, could there be a third box (i.e. Answer= ☐Yes☐No ☐N/A) which would work the same way with only one being able to show a checkmark.

Every attempt I know of to turn on the "Formatting Bar" has proven to be uneventful. I can show the "Formatting Bar" but it is grayed out ... Why?? The only way we get the formatting bar available is if we log in with "Full Access". And that is not going to happen "EVER". So how do you do it. Where's the secrete decoder ring? Thank you. Tom

HI, I don't know if I've done something wrong, but the attached is a copy of the relationship for staff table. The global field is set on login to Active and that status of the teacher is set to either active or Leaver. When I then create a value list on the Staff table, it is also showing the leavers which I dont' want to happen. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA.

Hi - I suspect there is a straightforward way to do this but I can't find it!! I am creating a solution to store then analyze some of my surgical workload. I have a table called "Operations" and this is related to another table called "Occupations" via a join table called "OccupationAtOperation". Hi! I am very new to Filemaker Pro 13. I am creating an employee database that records all trainings they have taken. My layout is all set up EXCEPT I can not figure out how to create a summery/list of trainings that are only applicable to a specific employee. So, in my database I have already been able to Create a Crew list, for a project. However, Each Call for a project can have varying or even the same crew members. How do I set it so that i can create a Check list for crew from the pool of crew already assigned for a show? Employees are users of the system and log into the system with a limited privileges set to view and edit their own record, no other records. Hi guys, I have a strange problem with a value list in one of my databases. I added a value list and set it to display a list from a field of employees. It worked for a while but after closing the database and re-opening it, the drop-down value list no longer works. I then checked in File>Manage>Value Lists and my new value list has no name anymore and I cannot delete it or edit it, it is just completely bugged out! I started building a very straightforward project with 3 entities/tables: Clients, Projects and Invoices. Clients have a 1-to-many relation to Projects Projects have a 1-to-many relation to Invoices I started entering some dummy data in the 3 tables. Here's an odd one.... I'm building a value list of data which comes from a static field in a relationship. That builds just fine and changes as I nav the parent record set. Not sure where to ask this one, so here it is. This one is for fun - tracking lottery numbers. I've got a file that I've entered every lottery draw in the state since it started (the list is downloadable online and I was able to import it to FMP). Here's the problem. (And it's not a huge deal but since I can't figure it out, it has become a challenge). The list shows the balls for each draw in the order they were drawn, not numerical order. I have a layout with a drop down list. The value list it uses is just a simple custom value list with two values.  It shows a "o" in front of the value. I copy/pasted the exact same field on the layout and on the new one it appears normal/doesnt have the anomaly. (it looks like its a o or 0 in a small font, or possibly the degree sign - cant exactly tell which character it is.)  See pic to see the two fields side by side - I have absolutely no clue what is going on here. I feel like I should know how to do this, but when I think about it, the only ways I know how to do it will not allow another part of what I want. What I'm after is to make something like a rolodex. The way I know how to do it, you end up with a list of found records, with a script for the alphabetical "filter," when you want that. Hi All, Am I going crazy or is there no way to sort data displayed on a popup menu? I have a popup menu that takes its data from a value list. The value list looks at a table in my FM solution and uses the ID field, also displays from the name field and has "show only values from second field" checked. This gives me a great list. However, my client has asked for custom ordering - we have a new field in the table called "display order", my clients will go in and give each record in the table a numeric value and then want the popup list ordered by that rather than the default ordering. Hi, I've got two table Staff and stafftype (which are linked via a relationship on StaffType) with which I've created a value list so that a staff memebr can be chosen on a layout through a drop down box. My stafftype table tell me whether the member of staff is a teacher, TA or support staff. Currently my value list is displaying all staff in the staff table. How do I make it conditional so that it will only show Teachers or TA's? I will end up creating a number of lists to show each type seperately due to how they need to be used in the layouts. Example: At kbb.com, looking for car makes and models, if you choose Ford in the first popup, popup 2, to the right of popup 1, lists all Ford models. Hi All, I have a table called "Claims", there is a related table called "nameLink" and table related to that called "name". So there is one claim to many namelinks (claim.claimId to namelink.claimId). Then nameLink.nameId to name.nameId. So the situation is that I have many names to one claim. I have a field "Completed" for a table "Task." The idea is that it's set to 0 initially, and a user can check off a box to indicate that the record has been completed. I set up the field as a number, with auto-enter data of 0. I set up a value list "yes, no" with a single value, 1. On the layout, for the field, I created a checkbox, and sized it to hide the value of 1, so you only see the box. Before the box is checked, the value stored in the field is indeed 0. Image 1 Image2 Image3 WorkerList field is a calculated field for which the calculation is : List(Worker::Name) All occurrences are sorted by the created time stamp (descending) as in the example in Image3 I would like the workerlist field to list in the order of workevents so in the example above (Mary,Eric,Ann,Luke) The only way I got it to work like that was by adding another sort for the Worker occurrence as illustrated below the bct field is a calculated field that gets WorkEvent::ct Image4 It works but it's sorting on a calculated field and it's certainly not ideal. Sorry, I´m absolute new to FileMaker. I'm trying to create a checklist like those found in collectible trading cards. Each record in my database has a collection of trading cards. Each collection has a different number of cards. So, when I enter the size of a collection, let´s say 127, I need Filemaker pro to create a checklist with 127 numbered checkboxes on the fly. I need the checkbox list to be functional, that is, when I click an a checkbox, it performs a simple inventory calculation. Is that possible? I hope it is! I've got a situation with value lists that I'm trying to find a "simple" solution for. I have a table of records...300,000+ records. I have two fields of interest, Code1 and Code2. Code1 is a general filter and Code 2 is a more specific filter that has values that ONLY occur for Code1. Code 2 is a child of Code1 Example: If Code1 = A then Code2 will only be Red, Blue, Green OR If Code1 = B then Code 2 will only be Alpha, Beta, Gamma. This is inherent in the records. Hello, I have created a database with a bunch of patients. Each patient has a unique hospital number put on their charts. This number is usually assigned to them once they are registered in hospital. In some cases we like to keep track of people who donate bone marrow to another patient and they want to remain anonymous. In this case, we would put a "dummy" number in the hospital number field. To better control the database table navigation I've chosen to hide the toolbar. I've been able to recreate most of FileMaker Pro navigation functions. However, there are places where I would appreciate to get help. I've attached a filemaker sample of why I've done so far. If I want to go to record number 5, I type 5 in the edit box. However, I always have to double-click in the edit box to highlight, clear the number and enter the desired record number. Is there a way for not having to double click. Sorry this relates to FM 11 Pro, I couldn't find a place to post about FM11. I've had this issue for ages and want to resolve it as it's a right pain. I have a DB with various drop down menus, when connected to a second monitor but displaying on the laptop screen some of the drop downs work, some open the actual list on the second screen and some just open the drop down arrow and never open a list. These have all been created in the same way on the same version. Hi I have a problem with sorting. I need this to properly create food labels. A certain product (e.g. chicken sandwich) contains several ingredients (Chicken, Butter, Tomato, Wheat, etc.). These ingredients have to appear on the food label in descending order based on their weight. By default (inactive) my checkbox are grey. When clicking on a checkbox the block is filled in green with a black coloured X demonstrating a selection has been made. I would like to replace the X by something else. For example, having the block in grey for inactive and everything in green (no black) X would be just perfect. I have a database for my cabinet shop that has two fields: ACCOUNT & TASK. ACCOUNT is populated with a drop-down value list. So I'm hoping it's not actually so complicated, but here goes: I have a value list called "Active Employees" that uses only related values from a field. This works perfectly. I'd like to create a new value list that includes all of the active employees as well as two other random values. These two separate values are not employee names and therefore I don't want them to show up in other places where I use the Active Employee value list. Using FileMaker Pro 13 I have a view in a SQL Server 2008 server that provides customer id (unique identifier), first name, last name, and full name. I have two tables in my Filemaker Pro database. Hi. I need the following. Say I have separate classes, like 9th grade, 10th grade, etc. In each class you have those students in a class. For each student you have the subjects they are taking. Something like that. If I want to click on the class drop down first (say I pick 9th grade) and the next drop down list should be the students in that class (not all the students).
