I am wondering how globals are treated when running a Perform Script On Server. I know the user that 'starts' the script is the logged in user / account when running the script, so the security permissions are used but are globals independent for each PSOS 'session' or do they carry forward for multiple PSOS scripts? An example might be better to illustrate my questions ... 1) a user runs a script that runs on server 'PSOS' that is set to NOT wait for completion, and in that script some globals are set, then various functions are run 2) the same user immediately runs a different script PSOS that is again not set to wait for completion and this script works with the sa…

I'm missing something here.i received an email from FMI about the latest update and followed the links etc. I run FMS with SSL turned on. The default certificate is used I assume. Now it seems the cert is only good for testing. Has this always been the case? Ami to assume that I must now purchase a third party certificate to use SSL effectively?

Hi all, trying to locate an external storage folder on an other drive than the server I set up the second database folder path. It was working fine on the same hard drive but asa I tried to setup a network drive it … no, ME failed. I host FMS 13 on a Mac Mini. Twice in the last two weeks the machine has gone completely deaf. Unfortunately both times I was out of town without direct access to the machine. Here's my worry. When I get back to town I find that of course I can't access any databases. Nor can I access the Admin Console either locally or remotely. BlueTooth is also not available. So there's absolutely no access to the machine. A hard manual restart is the only way to resume communication. I know this is a very bad idea. however there isn't an alternative. Thanks in advance. I have Filemaker Server 13 running on a new mac mini. I had a power failure yesterday and the mini rebooted. Since then I cannot access server outside the network. The IP address hasn't changed plus I use No-IP. I cannot see what is different why all of a sudden I cannot connect.

My server administrator has denied my request for more than 4Gb of RAM on a machine that is serving as machine #2 in a 2 machine deployment of FileMaker Server 13. I anticipate we will need more than 4Gb of RAM based off of FileMaker Inc.'s recommended (and minimum) RAM amounts. The server admin would like to see a test conducted so that I can basically prove this machine needs more resources. (yes, I know, I'm not sure why the FileMaker, Inc. minimum specs should not be sufficient justification!) I have designed a solution that is shared over a network that I remotely oversee. My client has witnessed frequent loss of client connection, and I see it myself about once a day when I log in remotely. Losing connection is an issue in itself which I've been researching. But what I'd like your opinion about is a related issue. Several staff members swear that on a few occasions when they lose their connection that they also lost some of their work. I've viewed this a spurious claim because of the nature of FM. Sure, I, conceded, you might lose the work in one field but I haven't seen it as possible to lose more than that. Am I wrong? Hi all, I’m trying to execute a shell script from a FileMaker Server schedule. FM 13 and MacOSX Server 10.8. It’s a simple script to put a message in the syslog to test. Running from the Terminal app works fine but from within FM Server it doesn’t seem to kick off (no error messages anywhere I can find). Hi All, I am new to the filemaker and this is very first time I am trying to link my application with the external SQL server. As advised in the "ODBC and JDBC Guide" I have created a new Data source for Filemaker in ODBC data source manager in control Panel. When I try to add this as an external data source in filemaker I am not able to see this newly created DSN when I click to specify (While selecting DSN in filemaker). Please suggest why I am not able to view these DSN in filemaker where as in reality my Data Source manager has it? regards JK

Hi there, We're using a FM database through an externally hosted service (triple8) which is accessed from a number of locations across the country. I currently have a situation where we are viewing a report that can contain 1200+ records in a filtered portal and each time the filtered is triggered it can take as long as 30 seconds for the screen to refresh and scrolling down the list is painfully slow. I've tried a list view instead and performance for filtering is improved significantly but scrolling down the list is still slow (not as slow as the portal though) - the issue is viewing it in list view poses a whole heap coding challenges as we have a parent ch…

The Win7 terminal where we installed FMS in 2011 is finally not up to the task - after the recent updates to IIS and ARR (and FMS), it opens and hosts my databases but refuses to serve the XML feed that powers one page of our Web site. It was always underpowered, so I don't have any complaint. When we put it in, this was an experiment, so we didn't pay much. I am responsible for a solution hosted by FMS13 running on a mac mini server, located remotely in a place that I get to physically only once a week or less. Users mostly access files using FMGo, either in the same physical location as the server over wifi, or remotely using cellular data. As the router connects to the internet over cable, it has a dynamic IP. We recently Converted our FileMaker pro server from Physical to Virtual Hyper-V Server (Server 2012R2). We have disabled VMQs and also Isolated the FileMaker server Virtual machine onto one network adapter. We are now experiencing terrible latency within Database performance. I've tried to rebuild the server and also running Recovery on a few of the Database files, nothing seems to help. Any performance issues recommendations? FileMaker pro is running on Server 2003. Hi. This is not strictly an FMS question, but... I have two sites accessing a server - all three are in different time zones in Australia. As certain transactions are made in the database, a log entry is sent back to a log table on the server which - in itself - works fine. The problem I am having is that the server records it's own time which will differ from that of the client. Sure, I can send the timestamp of the client event t to the log rather than using the record_created timestamp of the server, but then the log will be out of sequence depending on the difference of the time zones. I am running FMS v11.0.2.217 Users are running 10.0 v3, I just realized a few are running 10.0 v1. Server is Windows 7 Pro SP1 In the last 30 days, 2 different times, When Windows Updates were applied, I am unable to log in to the database from all computers. [FIXED] I found where some additional port forwards of the same ports were pointing to a 2nd machine on the network. Turning those off fixed the issue. I am unable to get non-local remote clients to see any of my hosted databases. LAN clients can see and connect to all. I'm running FMS 13.0.5 on Windows Serve 2012 R2. Currently I have ports 80, 5003, 16000 & 16001 all open. Windows firewall is completely turned off (even at the services level). Bonjour is running correctly. When I try to open the FMS12 Console, I see a dialog   Is this because I'm running Java 7.75?  I could not find any settings in System Preferences or Safari Preferences that had to do with certificates.   This occurred on Yosemite.  On Mavericks, nothing at all happens when I click the Start Admin Console button.  Please give me some suggestions.  --Doug  EDIT:  Fixed with installation of version 12.0.5 on Yosemite.  Off to install 12.0.6 on Mavericks to see if that helps there.

I just installed a fresh copy of FMS 13 (updated to 13.0.5) on a new server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. Everything is working fine except for the "Perform Script on Server" function. I am having a script that searches through records of vehicles to find vehicles currently running today, when found, loops on this records, runs a subscript on another file/database table to create an invoice for each vehicle and within this subscript another subscript executes to create a payment record on the invoice in another file/database....... I'm having trouble using an iSCSI drive as a place for backups. FMS13 sees it as a remote volume, not internal drive. When I attempt to "verify" the path to the D: folder, nothing happens. Can't verify, can't save. I can only revert. Essentially I have the server software on the C: drive and I want to use the D: drive as a place for backups. Has anyone out there been successful using an iSCSI drive for nightly backups? I have verified permission on the folder on the D: drive that I want to use as storage. Hello, Currently I am having an issue displaying remote container fields with interactive content (PDFs) on an FMS 13 Server box. JPEGS/PNG display just fine. To describe the issue in detail: A local database will display the interactive PDFs in a remote container field. When the the database is hosted with FMS 13 the container field displays an IIS error message. IIS (v7) hosts a website that is unrelated to this database I have stopped the websites hosted with IIS without any success. Has anybody encountered anything like this is before? Hi I've made a filemaker 13 database which all works ok with container fields set to ext storage and you can see the pdf's when looking at the fields all ok, but after I upload it to a filemaker server on a windows 2012 server I can no longer see the pdf's in the fields. only by exporting the content and showing it a viewer. Frankly I did know in which section to post my question. It's related to fm server, fm go, scripting, etc. I currently have an update system for my fm go solution that works like this. 1. User syncs his data . 2. User downloads an (almost) empty version of the database that is stored in a container field of an another hosted database. 3. User syncs to get his data. Has anyone gotten a 'lock conflicts' before?  This morning and again this evening, FileMaker has quit responding and then I get 'connection lost' message.  Here is what shows in Admin Console (attached).  Prior to today, I never had an issue accessing this remote host.  They just began implementing frequent incremental backups every 10 minutes (because of my remote work using weak connection).  Could there be a connection (LOL)?  I am on 10.9.5 13.0v3 and server is on latest updater. In the mid 90's our city got burned by a proprietary digital scaning/storage system, and we have 2 years of data that is all but unreadable. We are a bit gunshy on moving to full digital, but it looks like we are "pulling" the trigger, and FM containers have won the confidence of our end-users and administration. I'm responsible for implementing this system, and I want to take the best long-range approach I can. Hello, Â I'm trying to create a schedule script that will run every 20 min, but I can't get it working. Actually, I created the schedule, if I run it, it's working, but it wont run every 20min. Â Please, see attached file to see how I did my setup, as you can see, blue underlined script named "Update running campaign status" should run every 20min, but if you check the "Next Run" state, it will run only once next day. We are a team of 5 working on a hosted database solution locally via FM Pro 11, we just upgraded to FMS 13 and now we need to set it up on a new server. At present we run a 2009 Mac mini with 8GB and we are considering to buy a new 2.6Ghz, 8GB mini running OS X Yosemite. As a second option I would get a Windows PC with a similar spec. Interesting case: - FMS 13 on windows Server 2008 - Occasionally (apparently near same time a back up runs (not progressive) FMS goes unresponsive, unable to open files, unable to access via XML CWP and WD also. - FMS is accessed via Clients, WebDirect and XML CWP at the same time. - Windows logs do not show any funky activity - I have seen It 'Appears' when a script is running (previously scheduled) and a backup run at the same time FMS hangs. Restarting fmsServer and AdminServer fixes the issue. Has anyone encountered an issue like this? Charles Delfs

Hello, I have a known power outage coming tomorrow. I don't think it should impact my server, however I want to be safe. Will turning FileMaker Server 13 off cause any issues when I turn it back on after the outage? I know the machine itself will auto-restart once power is reconnected at which point I'll go back in and restart FMServer, but I don't want any of the files themselves to be damaged when I know of this possibility in advance.

Hello, When trying to Perform Script on Server I get the following error dialog box, on the client that triggered the script: "The account name and password you entered does not match those for any Filemaker account" As a test, I setup a Server-Side Script with the same Full Access credentials as the user trying to run the PSOS. I use FileMaker Pro 13 on a server at our main location. All 20 computers at that location work fine. I have 4 other locations within a 400 mile radius and these have serious speed problems while connected thru a vpn. We have about 1,400 products and one photo of each product in our database. When the remote locations view our computer catalog, they have to wait for the photos to load. Most photos are jpeg or gif and under 15k, and on the server. I'm scripting an ODBC import (Microsoft SQL Server) from a hospital information system. I'm using this infomation to construct a report containing "notes" which can be viewed/printed else where in a different FM11 file. Hi there, I have a client who is using windows server 2008 and running thin clients for all users. ie. each user logs in to the server using their own profile. I need to setup FMS for a couple of specific reasons - external access from ipads, scheduled scripts, multiple users connecting at the same time. I've read that FMS and FM Pro should NOT be on the same machine. I have very little experience with FMS (only used it as a hosted solution previously) so I'm not clear on if this setup will work. I have just one database amongst quite a few on our server that provokes the error "The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of FileMaker Pro" every time some one tries to open it. This of course makes the Filemaker client close down completely and makes opening the file from the server impossible. Filemaker support told me that it was undoubtedly because there was an external data source that was referencing an IP address outside of the local network (even if the IP address is on the local network) and that when the signal comes back to the client, Filemaker mistakes it for another client with the same serial number. I have an input system in FMP11 that uses a dialog box with a global field to input quantities for each record. On click OK the script will add the value in the record proper field. The users should enter just one number in that dialog box global field (e.g.: "10" or "-10"). I'm trying to create a validation script to make sure that the users don't type weird stuff except that one number. Greetings! I've inherited an instance of FileMaker Server 12 that is hosting 100+ files, and 80% of them haven't been used or even logged into in years. 5% are used regularly, and 15% are used very occasionally. The issue is I haven't the foggiest idea which is which. Does anyone have any clever ideas on how I could, in one fell swoop, figure out which ones have fallen out of use? I know how to manually install plugins on FileMaker Server 13 but I am struggling to find clear and concise step-by-step instructions that explain how to install server plugins using the new scripted install method. The official FileMaker Server 13 documentation is extremely lacking in details. It explains how to enable the feature to allow plugins to run on the server but where are the instructions for installing them via a script? Ok. Long time user. In house developer. We ran FMS 7-9 reliably with a fixed cost. Now between the poor user experience managing and installing FMS 11-13 and the very much greater cost associated with FMS 13 we are NOT pleased. Go ahead. Convince me to continue using FMS.

I install the 13 trial of server on my mom's macbook. She said it was ok. It gave me a icon with the admin console but I have a file I want to put in it and when I select the file and want to upload to server, it asks for information I do not know wants address. nothing I try works and I can't find anywhere there is information about how to start if someone doesn't know what they are doing. How do I start please and where is information on it? How do I find what to enter in the address?

My solution has a Home layout dashboard with buttons that are conditionally formatted to monitor the addition of records into certain tables. When records are added to the tables, the button turns red. Populating the tables with data from outside my environment is being done every 30 min via a FileMaker Server 13 scheduled script. As I monitor the Home layout, the server-run script cannot refresh my objects so that I can see them turn red in real time. Does anyone know of a work-around that would allow the script to trigger refreshes where appropriate? Or perhaps you've pursued another strategy to make this concept work? Thanks!! Scott

I'm trying to move the backup path from one NAS to another on our Windows domain. The existing path is simply filewin://<servername>/corp/FMS-backup/ (corp/ is a share on that server, and yes, even with the extra slash after "filewin" the path still validates. The new path is filewin:/<differentservername>/services/backups/fms-backup/ (services/ is a share on the new server). This path will not validate, either with or without the extra slash after filewin. We've tried mapping <differentserver>/services/ to a driveletter, but that won't validate, either. Hi All, My account on the web console only has "status", "activity" and "schedules". No one here knows of a master password that has any privileges above this account. My question is is there anything other than a bad login attempt (i.e. mistyped Username and/or Password) that can trigger a “authentication failed on database” error in a FM 13 Server log? I have a client who every once in a while seems to have login problems where users on the system (A Windows Server 12 LAN) can’t log on and typing too fast or sloppy is the only thing I can think of that could be causing them that problem. Is there anything else I should consider or look for?

Let me start by saying I'm not a server or Windows expert in any way, shape, or form. I am the one-eyed FileMaker guru in the land of the blind, therefore, I'm the expert by default. I have taught myself everything I know from books and this forum and lots of trial and error. We have Filemaker Pro 10 Server running on a Mac Pro running snow leopard. On our LAN the speed is fine. We share the file over the web and its painfully slow. We have a 10meg leased line, so its 10meg up and 10meg down(uncontended). The filemaker pro database file is now 500mb. Does anyone have any advice? I have been told to upgrade to FM12 which I plan to do, but is there anything else I can try.

Hi, i was running FMS13 on windows 8.1 pro but I am upgrading the network so I have built a new server thats running server 2012 R2. Ive installed FMS13 with all of the updates but the IP address that is displayed in the admin console is different to the systems IP address. The machine is setup to be the domain controller and hosts all of the profiles and is the file server for the network. The machine thats running 8.1 at the moment is then going to be upgrade to Server 2012 R2 and run the website and exchange server. Hello, I have taken on a database developed in Filemaker 7 and it is currently running in Filemaker Server 11. I need to setup a development environment so that I am not working on the live system for obvious reasons. I read an article on the Filemaker website on the ways to do this. I chose the option to copy the files from a backup to a local machine to work on. I copied all of the database files from the backup on the server to my local development machine. The database does work in a way but most of the files I try to open it tells me "This file was not closed correctly - performing consistency check". I need to upload some files that I have modified to the Filemaker server. I have been working on a backup set of the database on my local dev machine and now would like to implement these changes to the Filemaker server. Which is the best way for me to do this so that I don't have to manually edit the files on the server to copy what I have modified? Hi Guys, Been butting my head all morning trying to figure out what was going on. The DB I maintain handles a lot of stuff, including invoices and payments (and customers of course). Invoices can be paid immediately and on a plan (ie, a weekly, fortnighly or monthly payment, either via a direct bank debit or CC debit). This of course makes life a lot more complex than simpel instant payment of invoices with just a single payment. The DB of course has heaps of master tables and TO's. Hello, I have not managed an FM server before and just need to make this one work a bit longer until we can retire it. It seems the previous administrator who recently left used his own account for certain tasks with FM and that we've reset the account it keeps getting locked out by the FM 13 server. I do not see any services set to start as his AD user account, nor any scheduled tasks in Windows. I've browsed through the web admin console, but don't see anything that is clearly tied to his account. Is there somewhere in this console I should be able to see things like that? Thanks, tim

From what I've seen in other threads it's not considered best practice to run FM Pro and FM Server on the same server. I currently run FM Pro Advanced on a FM Server for doing my own updates to a master copy of my application. This copy is not accessed by anyone else but me when I am making updates. I have never had any issues with file corruption doing this. I currently run two separate servers for my users. They use Remote Desktop to connect to a multi-user copy of FM Pro on one server and then do a Open Remote to open their particular application on the other server (which is of course running FM Pro). A strange one - I have a group of FM12 clients working off a FMS12, all Mac. When the users leave FM to work in other apps, upon their return to FM it is locked up. ie: nothing clicks, no menus pop down. The only fix I can find is to once again leave FM for another app and on the second return FM works again. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Hi Although my console is accessible I can't make changes to a number of things anymore such as closing a database. Some items are greyed out such as changing the custom folder for database storage and if I turn off the database server it is still "on" when I relog into the console. I seem to be able to make some changes to general settings. I thought it might be a permissions thing but as I cannot disconnect a user either the issue is not directly database related. I have also tried the console both on the local machine and remotely. Im on version 13 v5

Hi All, I'm not sure the best place to post it so we'll go here first. This has happened twice now and it is starting to scare me: I've had two different customers using similar but different FM databases on my FM server report the same issue. On one of the job records as the user was entering data on FM Go, the screen flashed and the job disappeared. Another user went on to FM Pro to look at the record and saw the job, but when he clicked on it, it did the same thing. Now when I look, there is a blank record in the database. I'm currently working on a solution that has a fairly complex client-side export that takes place multiple times per day by multiple users. Users are able to create their own custom exports using an interface with a list of available fields and then export to a formatted spreadsheet with custom header rows for readability. Some of the fields that they are exporting contain large un-stored calculations that need to be calculated on the fly, so larger exports (in my case, 800ish records with many, many sub-records) can take in excess of 10 minutes to process. I am attempting to build a set of found records and then Import them into another table using the Import Records script step inside of a script that is being performed on the server. When I call the PSoS script, I am current getting an error 100: The file cannot be found when I try to call the Import Records script step and use the name of the Filemaker File. Fairly sure the issue is localized to the one client, but I cannot find the issue. This one newly installed client cannot see the files remotely hosted on our server, the other 400 clients have no issues. I've confirmed it is this one PC my installing NMAP on the client and scanning the server and it can see port 5003 open on the server. I've went even further and installed Wireshark on the client and filtered the server IP and tried to connect, wireshark showed no communication with the server, not even an attempt. Comparing 2009 xserve to mac mini for hosting. Maybe it’s an anachronism to go with Xserve at the moment, and certainly the ports leave much to be desired, but I can find the 2009 2.26 four core zeon at $999, wich seems like a great price. Is there anyone that would opt for the xserve as opposed to a mac mini for a 50 strong company db with 5-6 concurrent connections? Thanks.

I've been tasked with setting up FM SERVER 13 at our office. We already have a Mac Mini running 10.9.5 Server with the following services: Calendar (8008, 8443) Contacts (8800, 8843) File Sharing (548) Time Machine VPN (various ports) I've been told that I must use a separate machine to run FM Server 13. We happen to have a good Mac Mini i5 for the job so this is not a problem. So I'm going to install it on that. My question comes down to the ports FMS needs to use which are 80 and 443. I'm having a FMS13 server install issue. I've uninstalled and installed FMSE about 5 times. I cannot get my plugins and or web server to connect. I've used the uninstall app and removed all folders and prefs from the Library folder. I install version 1 then apply the updates, v3, v4 then v5. Nothing. Running 10.10.1 and running java 7. Anyone have any ideas before I completely wipe my MacMini server? I have the Yosemite server app, but all services are off.

Using FM 11 Server Advanced  I am having a problem with IWP. On the attached picture there is a list of students with choices for teachers to input classes for next year. The choices were set up as a value list and radio buttons. All the students are defaulted to Standard (Using the client). When the teachers access the internet file and select a different radio button, it will only update one student at a time. Is there anyway the teacher can go down the list, click on the desired radio button for each student and then submit the selections to the server?  Is there some script that will accept the buttons then submit the data and go to the next student. Today, sixty minutes before terminating an assignment my MacMini crashed on me. It's no longer working, it doesn't want to reboot. The Server HD drive is no longer accessible. Good things the scheduled backups were done on the second drive (MacIntosh HD). In two days from now I have an important contract and I need to have access to my database. I was able to get to the AppleStore before it closed and got another MacMini. Unfortunately, any new Mac comes with Yosemite as the OS. For some time now, we have been seeing crashes of FileMaker Server 13 when using container fields that are being populated with PDF files. The crashes are infrequent, random, and quite frustrating. I am posting again to see if anyone has any input into this, had any success in resolving this issue, etc. FileMaker's support has been unsuccessful in resolving the issue to-date. Mac OS X Server v10.6.8 FileMaker Server 12.0.1.178 During a daily scheduled backup in which it's set to keep a maximum of 14 backups, once there are 14 folders as expected I am receiving error messages stating: FMServer Error 685 Error occurred while deleting backup folder... When I look at the folder(s) in question it has successfully deleted all the database copies, only leaving the externally stored container files. All of them. And their folders. I looked at the permissions for each folder and they were all identical; all having fmserver/fmsadmin with Read & Write priv's. Thoughts, suggestions ?!

I have a scripted import of a found count (about 500 records) to another table. It works well locally. However, in FileMaker Server 13...no luck. My process: 1. Find the records 2. Change layout to new table 3. Import the found records in 1. In server something is failing. I think it might be the import path. Can anyone provide some advice? Thank you.
