    Hi, My client has sent me a 52 page PDF form of which quite a number of pages will be the basis of a report that comes from the Filemaker solution. Rather than manually create 52 pages in a new layout, is there a tool or method by which I can import these pages? Its mostly just text - I'm happy enough to tidy a few (display) tables and shading etc. Thanks in advance. Greg

  3. I'm really new to filemaker and still getting to grips with how it all works. I have been following the Filemaker Pro13 Userguide as well as online tutorials, and am stuck with portals. I appear to have followed all the steps correctly but although my portal fields appear in the edit layout mode, when I close edit layout, no data appears in the portal. I have checked my relationships which all seem to be in order. Can anyone help to point me in the right direction please?

  4. I am conditionally formatting some field objects to change color based on a calculation. The color picker available in filemaker is far too intense for my purpose. I sometimes change the color by changing the opacity level of the fill pattern but this is still not exactly what I want. Is there a way to call out the color using hexadecimal values?

    Sorry for such a basic question, but we recently upgraded from FMP9 to FMP13. Existing databases were converted. I need to modify tooltips...but apparently it has changed drastically (at least for me) with FMP Advanced 13. Silly question? How do you edit existing tooltips? I can't find the option ANYWHERE. The FMP advanced manual provides no guidance and just a vague statement that you can edit tooltips. I've been able to "show" which fields have tooltips, but nothing else. Right mouse clicking, looking in layout, format, etc., menu options doesn't show anything. Inspector doesn't show any options. Thank you!

  6. Hey Guys, Does anyone know if its possible to insert predefined tags in a web viewer. I've got a web viewer which allows the user to enter in content, however I also have a set of FileMaker buttons with certain keywords which I want the user to click on and the text on the button gets transferred to the web viewer, where ever the cursor was.     Can somebody help me with decision of one problem? - Â I have data in different tables with different dates, but i need to place them all in one layout like a map. So 2009 year - it's first column, 2010 year - it's second column, 2011 year -it's third column and so on. So as you understand i can't do this with List View, because all dates come under each other, not left to right. Â Â

  8. Every now and then, upon going into Layout Mode and back to Browse Mode, all layout objects revert to the Default Style of the Layout Theme. The overall theme and other layouts remain unaffected. What might be causing this? I have never had this issue when using FileMaker 13 Advanced on a Mac. It happened consistently when using FileMaker 12 Advanced on a PC, so I assumed the issue was with using Filemaker 12 on layouts that were mostly made in 13... but today it happened a few times when using FileMaker 13 Advanced on a PC. The database is using a custom theme, similar to the built-theme called Enlightened. Its happened on a variety of layouts.

  10. I'm at a complete loss. Â Really simple... custom menu set, custom 'edit' menu - see attached. Â If I insert the Paste command, or Paste without style command into the menu, it's dimmed... can not be used. Â Cut and Copy work fine... can't paste. Â I can't see any reason why this is the case... it's gotta be something simple? Â To test... I put the "Omit Record" command in the menu - that works fine. Â So it's just paste commands.

I need help here When i use the open url function I get "https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%28850%29%20484-8802"  Which converts in google to the page I want But when I try to use the same script to open in the webviewer I get a different page.  I have included both images  How can I correct this?     Hi All, Am I going crazy or is there no way to sort data displayed on a popup menu? I have a popup menu that takes its data from a value list. The value list looks at a table in my FM solution and uses the ID field, also displays from the name field and has "show only values from second field" checked. This gives me a great list. However, my client has asked for custom ordering - we have a new field in the table called "display order", my clients will go in and give each record in the table a numeric value and then want the popup list ordered by that rather than the default ordering.     Hi, I've got two table Staff and stafftype (which are linked via a relationship on StaffType) with which I've created a value list so that a staff memebr can be chosen on a layout through a drop down box. My stafftype table tell me whether the member of staff is a teacher, TA or support staff. Currently my value list is displaying all staff in the staff table. How do I make it conditional so that it will only show Teachers or TA's? I will end up creating a number of lists to show each type seperately due to how they need to be used in the layouts.     Hi folks, On my class layout (class table), I have a portal of that classes assessments (assessment join table), and when I select one the pupils (Pupils table) all come up so I can give them their marks, notes and attendance. This all works very well indeed (mainly because of the help you guys have given me!) One of the fields on the portal is a sort number (from a pupil_class_assessment_join table). My issue I am having is for tab controls I put in the layout are not formatting when I change object attributes. I have set fill and line to no fill and no lines yet it still shows up with borders and a bar behind the tab selection area.     Hi, I set up a child table for "Notes" with Time stamps and used four different portals to bring them into the layout of my main table. For reasons that I cannot figure out the timestamp is not working correctly. I have tweaked the settings to no avail. After the first attempt, I decided that it must be related to the duplication of the time stamp for each notes field. So I set up independent time stamps for each field.     I have searched and surprisingly can't find the answer to something that seems so simple. I am trying to change my fonts on the tab controls, but can't seem to change them for the inactive state. Anytime I try to select them even in layout mode it makes it active and only changes the active font. I have tried what seems to be every key combination when selecting them but nothing works. She has a number of works that are related to each other (studies for a piece, or variations on a work). The primary metadata for her works are stored in a table called "inventory", for which the unique ID (and match field) is titled inventory_id. Example: At kbb.com, looking for car makes and models, if you choose Ford in the first popup, popup 2, to the right of popup 1, lists all Ford models.     I have two tables: Table A and Table B. Table A contains information about a television program, whereas Table B contains the shot schedule for the program. Table B is represented in a portal row within Table A. I am having an issue calculating time. I have a field in Table A (total time scheduled) that uses the following calculation: Sum(Table B::duration) *unstored* Total Time Scheduled is formatted as time and Duration is formatted as text. I created the fields then used Inspector to select "currency" under Data Formatting to make the number show up with dollar signs but I can't get the dollar signs in all of the fields. The official Filemaker definition is that it "resizes the window to the minimum size possible while keeping all items in the layout visible."     Not sure where to put this so please excuse if wrong. I am frustrated by programs which put a picture of the shortcut keys but do not explain what those little pictures mean. My latest frustration is for Status Toolbar. I know what the flower means because it is 'command' but what is the backslash with the dash thingy? However, if my customers opens the file on his computer he sees the customerPC image. In other words he does not see the tabs on his screen. When he changes the zoom level to 150% the tabs appear.   49. HI all, I have a table called "locations". That table has an (int) ID (string) Location Name and (int) valid. I am using that table as the basis for a couple of popup menu "values from" lists. I can't see anywhere in FM the option to create a custom value list. What I need to do is for one of the popup menus, only include values where the valid field = 1. in SQL terms it would be select * from locations where valid = 1. Other popup lists on there will need all of the rows, regardless of their valid setting. As far as I can see, there is only the ability to include ALL rows of a table or a custom list of hard-typed values. Many thanks

  50. I'm having difficulty replicating some of the features provided by the supplied themes, particularly the Enlightened theme and drop down lists. Each state of the drop down (normal, hover, pressed, in focus) can of course have an independent set of display characteristics, however I notice that the enlightened theme drop downs also show the arrow background as a different colour to the field entry area. It's very subtle, but the drop down arrow goes white in hover mode, whereas all other modes are a very pale grey. When I chose a graphic as a fill object then it highlighted this even more. To make data entry easier, I have a self-relating portal displaying the tests fields filtered by the five categories . A drop down menu with the list of test categories and script trigger sets the portal to display only tests in a category.   53. I have a pesky problem with trying to implement popovers to replace some older picker popups. I have created a popover, and attached an OnObjectEnter script trigger and an OnObjectExit script trigger (to the popover itself, not the button). The OnObjectEnter script sets some variables to prepare the popover for portal data selection. This works fine. The OnObjectExit script trigger clears the variables. I have a Cancel button on the popover that executes Close Popover command, which triggers the OnObjectExit script trigger to clear variables. This works fine.   56. Hi Everyone, I have an animated GIF (spinner icon) in a web viewer that I display while running a script to show the system is busy. One of the script steps inserts a file as a reference. This step takes about 5 to 10 seconds to complete. I have noticed that if the file path uses an address with a mapped drive it is much quicker than a UNC address, unfortunately I need to use a UNC file path. When the script gets to the insert file as reference it stops the animated gif and causes the web viewer to go blank until the insert file step completes. So there is one claim to many namelinks (claim.claimId to namelink.claimId). Then nameLink.nameId to name.nameId. So the situation is that I have many names to one claim.   61. I created a portal that is based on a company table related to a Estimate_Line Item table. To this I have two related fields: parent client key = ::child client key and check box options= vendor (which is a calculation field="vendor) It currently tells me when I click in the portal on my company table that this action cannot be performed because this field is not modifiable. The portal is based on the Estimate_Line Item table and all fields located in it are from that table as well. Any help appreciated.

Than I have to assign a script step to the button otherwise it will not accept conditional formatting (stays grayed out). I do not want the button (object) to do anything. What is the lightest script step to perform ?? (exit script (no script running), goto object [ ] ) When I assign the 'Do Nothing' script step from scratch to the button the conditional formatting option stays grayed out.   67. Lets say: T1: customers T2: invoices In the customers layout I have a portal in a popover showing their respcetive invoices (ones paid, others unpaid). What I want to accomplish is (using conditional format for example), to show a tag about the state of the invoices, but only works for the state of the first row. Is it posible to do it for all the rows? I mean, someting like: all paid, none paid, or SOME paid (if there are a few paid but other few not). Thanks for your help. Basically, if the value of a given related record field is zero, the button is hidden, and if the value is one, the button is not hidden. I specify this under "Hide object when" under the button's behavior. I noticed that when I browse to a particular record in the layout, the button displays OK. However, if I change the value of the related record field, the button does not automatically change state.     I'm hoping someone else has seen this. When FM 12 first came out I watched every video I could find about it. I recall seeing in one of them the demonstrator copy a layout object, go to a different layout and paste the object in place. He even commented on how nice it was that FM 12 included this paste in place feature. Since then I have rewatched many of the videos trying to find where I had seen it but with no luck. Was I just dreaming or is there now a way to paste in place rather than have to make note of the position and type it in in the new layout every time?

I have a script that identifies the currently active tab and another that restores that tab state. I can trigger the latter via layout script trigger "OnRecordLoad" but how do I trigger the "memorizer" - even when no changes have been made to the record?     I have 2 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10 with FM Pro 12.0v5 that we are using from a remote site. When i open our customer file remotely on one computer everything works fine. On the 2nd computer the 1st layout of all customer info opens up blank. All other layouts are working fine.     I'm using FM13 Advanced (Mac) to develop a solution. I copied my original file, experimented with different background images for a layout, and also did some other development. The file size difference between my original file and the one with background image experimentation is significant...more than I would expect from the other development I did. As a test, I saved off another version of the file using the "Compacted copy (smaller)" option, but this had minimal effect. I also wrote a script to flush cache to disk, but this had no effect on file size. So I'm wondering...is it possible that FM has cached the unused background images I experimented with somewhere …

    I have a field "Completed" for a table "Task." The idea is that it's set to 0 initially, and a user can check off a box to indicate that the record has been completed. I set up the field as a number, with auto-enter data of 0. I set up a value list "yes, no" with a single value, 1.     Hi, Ive been searching for a solution without any luck, or maybe this just isn't how a web viewer is suppose to work, however... From my filemaker database I would like the user to click on a button whilst in Kiosk mode and bring up a window containing a web page where they can interact and then close it down which works fine, however the page won't refresh unless i right click+control and click refresh (web page contains a calendar so can see its not refreshing).
