I'm trying to put a google doc into a web viewer. When the page comes up, I'm initially prompted to log into google docs. After I submit my name and pw, I'm getting a message that says "oops, your browser doesn't have cookies enabled." I'm not sure which settings I need to adjust so that cookies are enabled and the page will be served. Any advice?

We would like to display data from multiple tables in the form of charts on a single layout. Filemaker does not allow this, so I am seeking a work-a-round that is not going to significantly add to the overhead. I have a solution that works. It involves container fields and a script that runs at start up. Unfortunately, this script dramatically slows the start of the database, especially if the database is accessed via VPN while away from work. We are using FMP12 clients on Macs running OSX 10.8 or 10.9, and our database is hosted on a server running FMP12 Server. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have a portal showing various records. 1 to 10 say portal row number fieldA fieldb I need do have a drop down value list which only shows 1 value and that should be from the portal row above. Ie 1. fieldAContent FieldBContent 2. fieldA FieldB when i click in fieldA in portal row 2 I need this to show what is in fieldA from portal row1 can this be done if so how? I tried various thing using the relationship model but obviously I can't use calc fields to form relationships. Or at least I think I can't I guess I could use a script that goes to the previous row and grabs the field etc etc.. this may be the way?! …

Hi Being quite new to Filemaker and trying on a pretty limited time to make me a support database , now I have a couple questions. We have a number of products in which the article is described as follows CL25-11, CL25-12 , CL25-21, CL25-22, CL35-11, CL35-12 and more. When creating the post you state exactly as above since the last 2 digits are important in a future support case.. Using FMPA13, I went to format a checkbox field this morning and it seems there is no longer a way to change the color of just the actual checkboxes or, if there is, I am missing something here. Under FMPA11, it was simple: select a color for the line, regardless of setting the Borders to off or on. In this case, Borders were turned off. Anyone else experience this or am I missing something obvious?

I have a table - Equipment There is a child table - Equipment Photos, that may contain 0 or more (up to about 5 or 6 generally, but sometimes more!) photos for each equipment. I want to print all equipment items, and for each item show ALL of the related photos, in a thumbnail. I've used single row portals to try and get this going, but it is limited by the number that I set up, and then it will always leave space for this many items, even if the equipment has none. Does anyone have some suggestions on how best to achieve this?

Hi, My customer hate ID Fields, matter of fact they tell to keep them OFF their Layouts!! So I struggle hiding them. But Filemaker Needs them. I've posted to FM suggestion. Is there a why to color my "Field TEXT" to "CLEAR" NO COLOR like the "OBJECT" is assigned FILL: NONE. When I select the text color palette box with the red diagonal it defaults to "WHITE" Not "No Color" Shouldn't the diagonal across the box mean NO COLOR?? I've tried conditional formatting but it is the same, WHITE TEXT. I've been able so scoot around this issue for quite some time by coloring the layout and the ID Fields the same. This past year I notice all demos are including status bar. I am wondering if it is because of iPad. Or are developers using it more now because it can be better controlled? And with web direct, my layout does not fit right because of browser bars. I got a file by Jeremy Bante on window size for example and it shows leaving status bar. You can get it by going to ModularFM. I would prefer not to have the status bar. But does iPad and iPhone need to show it? I see that web direct shows a funny status bar which I can not remove. Howdy, all: I built a runtime solution that'll be used internationally and am having trouble figuring out how to enable users to pick a date format they prefer. For example, here in the States we use the MM.DD.YYYY format whereas in Canada it's DD.MM.YYYY...and even some users want to incorporate ISO 8601 where dates or timestamps are presented as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM (Z)). There are about 40 different date fields in 11 different tables so I'm looking for a systemic way of doing this so when a user goes to the Main layout s/he selects a date format s/he likes all the date fields comform to that choice. Any ideas? TIA for your help!

This is driving me completely crazy. This must be so simple. I have a filtered value list in my hosted database that does not work until I go to the related layout and come back. I tried to replicate the behavior by creating the following simple database that is a simplified version of my hosted db. Job1Only field is a global calculated field that is equal to 1. Job id number 1 is "Manager" I have a value list that I put on the Holding layout that is used to select a manager from the list of managers of the company related to the holding. I just read up on it. Why can't I use kiosk so that I do not need to remove menus, hide status and all that stuff. I plan to put my own buttons anyway. But when I search I find little about it used this way. We will be on windows but also on iPad. And web direct probably. With server. Would not kiosk make a cleaner design? There must be dangers or problems I do not see.

I have a table that I'd like to be able to sort according to columns similar to the behavior in MS Excel. I'm wondering if someone already has an example of this that they could share, or suggestions on how to go about it. In other words, sorting columns sequentially would not clear the prior sort order, but would apply the prior order as a secondary sort criteria. Also, sorting by the same column twice should reverse the primary sort order. This would be done with sort buttons in the column headers, without bringing up the sort dialog. Thanks.

Hello all, I am working on designing a report that I can print out and send to each customer. On this invoice report, I want to display related records from 2 related tables. I had thought about using portals but they don't print well. The first table will display the time sheets entered in for this particular project. The second table will contain any materials used that were used on this project. I am not sure how to go about getting this to work with data from 2 different tables. All buttons and icons are stored in the Interface layout in container fields. Then they are used in other layouts. In my iMac, they all appear with smooth and transparent corners. When I move the databases on Windows 7, I end up with white edges. Rectangle buttons were created with FileMaker tools and then pasted in the container fields. If I paste any buttons in a layout, they look fine. Where is the catch? Please advise

Hello, I am using FMA12 for Mac. I have a text field that grows when the screen size grows by using the layout anchors. I would like to have have my content inside of a text remain on a single line. If it goes beyond one line, I'd like it to display the text, and truncate the remainder with "..." at the end so the user knows there is more data in the field. I know I can use a calculation based on text length, but my issue is having different users with different screen sizes and adjusting on the fly. Any thoughts? Thanks, Stephen

I am a bit disappointed by the implementation of the menus in the sliders. What is to my liking are the embossed buttons I've seen on some implementations from the starter solution. But I have yet to manage to keep the menu or should I say a button, a series of buttons, when one of them stays illuminated changes colour when you're in the appropriate slider pane. The best I have managed is to use a small different colour line underneath them, close to what OS X does with the dock. But this is less than ideal. Having said that I think it's quite possible that it can be done but I have not figured out how to do it.

I just got our server and I thought this was supported to work and it does not. I do not know if it is me or the server. Privilege set for PARTS is " Division = Users::Division I thought security removed things which were not allowed. But the value list still shows parts where the division does not match these rights. Main fields in the body part of the layout: Item Quantity Value Total ItemType -- A layout using List View. There is a sub-summary part, when sorted by ItemType. In that part, a summary field TotalValue (total of Value), and a PercentageOfTotalByType calculation field ( Value / TotalItemsByTypeSummary ) are placed. Both these fields provide correct results. Let's assume this structure TableA-----TableB------TableC - - TableD TableB-TableD relation is 1:1 If I insert a portal of tableC in the TableA layout and I insert a field of TableD in that portal, the field displayed will not be in relation of the tableC record (the portal table). It seems to display the last value of the the tableD field associated to table B. Basically to make it work I had to create an occurrence of table D and link it to tableC. Any way to avoid this ?

After creating a related record in a second window, I have a script that closes the window, returning me to the original window where my portal is then the final step in the script is to perform a window refresh. Unfortunately, the portal does not show the updated record until I manually perform a refresh either with the keyboard shortcut or from the menu bar. I think it has to do with the relationship being based on a global field (I've tried both global text and calc fields with the same result). Is there an easy workaround that I'm missing? Thanks.

Well probably not but it did not do what I expected so I would like to mention it. I have a script which counts the values in a value list and acts accordingly. It is based on 'all values in field'. It recently broke saying there were less values than there were and all I had done was change the sort order of the value list. Please see attached. First button was my original. We did not use this value list for data-entry, only to get the count of all products for my script. Alternate code is not required. But then another situation wanted only the alternate codes to display for selection in another layout and I thought, perfect, I already have just the thing. …

Hello, A client reported that his wife, who does the accounts, noticed an extra row was appearing in her invoices. This row showed two fields containing '0' (zero) but formatted as 2 place decimal. When I investigated I saw that the empty portal row in the 'Sales Items' portal where the original items are created has these two values set. First shot was to go to the Sales Items and see if there was a phantom one. No. Once invoiced the items show in a file 'Invoice Items' and these are listed in another portal on a different layout. I have 5 tables. Servers Software Relationship Service Service Defined The Servers table is populated with all the servers in my IT dept The Software table contains all the software from the servers combined. I have a report I want to print that looks fine in browse mode. It has a white background with some field boundaries displaying as well (attached image one). When I enter preview mode or save a PDF of the report all of a sudden the background is grey and some of the field boundaries are gone (attached image 2). Any idea what I have setup incorrectly? Is it possible to create a value list that consists of the contents of five different fields? I have one table that is called WORKERS. I'm computer literate, but a big novice at DB creation. I've been reading lots of pages and the manual and can see there are many interesting ways to go about the same task. I've converted a database from Access via an xlsx and got it working fine. It is a one table DB that stores to one unique record, workshop repairs done in a bicycle shop. This is more a heads up or a quirk but it has to be pointed out that when you use the ready made iPad border around your layouts design area, important one that is, it's actually showing you the wrong place to put your layout because of in the Go application is actually taking up some space that goes unaccounted for. That could almost be considered a bug actually, it certainly isn't a feature. In any case heads up to anyone designing for the iPad if you've figured it out yet.

Hi! I am looking for some help on a layout. I am working to create an invoice from 2 sets of data. What I have now are 2 tables, one for services, the other for products. These were imported from an old Paradox system. I am held up creating an Invoice layout that shows records from both of these. I have a table called "trans" which is a Invoice table. Within the go application of the iPad there is a guide, an introduction of sorts to that application which includes a button that you press and you get a pop over with your current GPS location and your place on that map. Now for the life of me I can figure out where the pop over pops from? It calls two scripts, which I have read and I have understood, although I'm not so sure, if they are the ideal implementation. But I really can't tell what they are doing with the pop over.

Hi, I have a Country table (CTY) linked to a News Article table (GPN) via a joint table. I am having difficulty getting a portal to display related records from the joint table, and have tried but couldn't figure out why. All I want is for the portal to display the title of the article. The portal in question is in a layout of the CTY, and is showing related records from the joint table, which has a calculation field that gets the article title from GPN. FM automatically does the following and I want to know if it helps to turn them off Has checked 'commit' on custom dialog. Helps to uncheck it? Has quick find checked in layout Is it cheaper to have layout base set as NONE for fill instead of a colour? If the colour I want is the same as no fill, why fill it? Attached is my current setup, structurally correct thanks to Comment. I have reviewed many posts and I cannot find one similar to this need. I have two fields where, if I select one field, I want the other to filter down to only the associated values whereas if I select the other one, I want the first to filter down. Maybe I am approaching this improperly. When we create a Transaction, the person may only know the Unit. I would like only People associated to appear. I am trying to get into a web site that requires a login. I am not even able to get to the page that asks for my password. Instead, I am getting an error "The certificate for this server is invalid". Hi there, I have a report which generates course run rates for a particular date period which works fine. The report includes a run rate which is simply the total number of course days that ran (were not cancelled) divided by the total number of days in the report period. All well and good. I need to add some sub-summaries so that the run rates are also calculated when the courses are sorted by course stream (streams are classifications of training like subject areas). So a given report for a month would have up to 13 sub-summaries based on course stream each with its own run rates per course stream displayed. However I can't work out how to get run rate…

I'm a FM noob...so I apologize beforehand. Trying to learn as I develop my database. I'm developing a contact management database. The majority of the database is typical. The part I'm having difficulty regards a recurring 'event.' I want to be able to have a set of fields that show date, time, contact type (follow-up, 1st contact, etc), and notes that can be searched. This set of fields needs to be able to be repeated infinitely so that I can add a new field each time I contact them. It needs to be able to search and do reports on my database...such as search for contacts with last follow-up greater than 2 months ago.

Heads up: Our users have found that value lists in popup menus that formerly ignored pre-pended characters for sorting, now respect them. For instance, in FileMaker 12, values that were pre-pended with an asterisk were displayed in Alpha-numeric order by default — and the pre-pended asterisk was ignored: Now, in FileMaker 13, these characters are included in the default sort order, so all of the pre-pended values are now together at the top of the list: If anyone has suggestions on how I can restore the previous behavior (short of reverting back to FileMaker 12!), I'm all "ears". I am wanting to do a simple questions survey. I have a participant table, a questions table, and a Results table. I might be in over my head on this, and maybe headed in the wrong direction: My solution will include about a dozen or more nearly identical reports. These are all simple lists with the same title header, header, body, sub-summary, title footer, and footer. The only thing different is the found set. So, rather than create and support (and update when needed) a dozen or more layouts, I had the idea of using the same layout for each report. So far, so good. Here is a sample file that has standard field labels Left of Field / Top of Field, Vertical data entry or horizontal data entry. I also added a few "custom styles" that inset the label in to the data entry field so that it is "one object". There are a few caveats regarding how to style the field or label so that the label doesn't disappear when the focus is in the field. Hi I am having troubles using the inspector in FileMaker 11 Advanced version 11.0.3.312. When opening files sometime the inspector shows position like 402 px and then everything works well. But sometimes the inspector shows position like 402,000 px and when that happens I cannot copy layout parts on layouts or between layouts. I have tried to uninstall and install again with no luck. I have one layout with 3 'Tabs' - Client, Contacts, Achievements. For context, a client can have many contacts (portals used here) and likewise with Achievements. Each of these 3 'Tabs' has a separate layout to create a new record. This is all to be used on an iPad so if anyone has any better ideas I'd be really interested to know your thoughts. I would like to use one '+' button in the HEADER, as opposed to a button on each 'Tab', to add a new record which would go to a specific layout to create the new record. I have a merge field as a button. It is a repeating field individually and the button name is the result. It works fine. But I need to find out which button is clicked and its repetition number tells me that. I tried using Get(Repetition) and Get(CalcRepetition) and GetLayoutAttribute and a few other things even passing parameter of Get(ActiveFieldContent) but nothing so far works. I suppose I could go back to the regular fields as the buttons but I did a lot of work already. Also I would like to know for next time any way. I have an index LIST with titles as buttons. Selecting a title opens a new window with detailed information in a FORM view. The script that returns me to the index needs to center (when possible) the displayed list on the Last_Record_Selected. This is easly done by forcing the list view record pointer to the last record and then moving to the Last_Record_Visited + an offset value. Works like a charm - except - it leaves the active record pointer setting at the last record in the visible list. I've been trying to set a slide control to be completely invisible. I have set the background to None and the line width to None. In my mind, that would mean the slide controls should not be visible. But, I can still see a hairline black border for the object. No combination of attributes (same colors for background & border color of part background, transparent attributes on background and border, etc) seem to get rid of that black border. Am I missing a control somewhere? I have seen this on other object behavior (tab control & web viewer) since v12. Any hint to a solution would be awe-some. Thanks

Hi all, Couple-days-lurker, first-time-poster here, definitely toward the novice end of the spectrum. I am working on a job tracking system (where each job is a "shot") and am building a layout for adding tasks to a shot. I want to be able to assign multiple people to the task, and so currently have a portal in my layout which references a "person" table. Hello everybody! I work in a dental business. I have made a little database to keep track of the cases we have ongoing. There's only one table: CASES. Each record tracks things like the patient name, the date of the next appointment, etc. The field STATUS tracks whether the case is "Live" or "Completed". I have a cabinet shop. I'm trying to develop a piece of software to help us generate shop drawings. Â We build a lot of different types of cabinets but we use essentially the same math for all of our work. Hello, Since the background window via a button I display the model containing the WV google maps for location of a place and hang the script. I cannot take a picture of the ghosts ... every time I touch my Mac they disappear. But they exist in 13 sometimes when I hover above an object. These tooltips which display in browse mode about how to design while in layout mode are not ones put there by me. I have a database that tracks events at locations in cities. Each event has a Unique ID. On my cities form, i have a portal that shows the List of locations in that city for each event. It also shows the Event ID for each location. Because locations have multiple events, the locations will show up more than once with different Event IDs., and each event may have more than one (or no) locations.   This is the portal in my layout. I'm not sure this is the proper forum group to post this . . but here it is anyway. I'm creating a custom menu set for my application and need to 'disable' or 'hide' the TOOLS menu feature. I don't see anyway to remove this, consequently the ability to reset the custom menu to the standard menu is available as well as the DDR information. Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this problem as I have tried searching for answers but to no avail. Basically I have a simple contacts table with 3 tabs, details, website and map. When you click on the website tab it loads the contacts website based on info in a field on the details tab. When you click on the map tab it loads a map based on details in a field on the details tab. Currently I m using sort selection drop down menu (trigger) to sort my report with different kind of segments, by month, by year, by customer, by user and by product. Each segment give me the different total on sub-summary column. When i m put this thing on filemaker 12 server or using instant web publishing, this sub-summary ain't working. Greetings. I have two unrelated tables in one DB. Database table "Main" has a portal with financial entries for clients: date, amount, description, etc. The second database is "Checkbook." Sometimes we need to draft a check with the same information that is keyed into that portal in "Main." Right now, we just re-key in that same information into the Checkbook table. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to move values from one table to the other? I could write a script that would use "copy and paste" 4 times over, but I'm sure there is a more sophisticated way to do that. Thank you.

I have no clue as to how to initialize an instance, Exchange public keys to obtain a token and with that token , I have to charge the credit card making web service calls. Hi I am struggling with the web viewer framing a youtube video and then moving to a vimeo video and getting the web viewer to display the video properly . Right now, on a youtube video it defaults to the upper right corner of the youtube page and I have to manually move it to the right place. All versions of FM allow the pasting of any shape graphic objects into layouts. In previous versions of FM (my last version was 10 - I skipped 11 & 12), if you selected an odd shaped graphic properly so that the copied graphic included only the shape of the graphic, you could paste it into an FM layout and it would display properly against any color background. In version 13, no matter the shape of the original graphic, it displays in FM as a rectangle with any unused space within the rectangle filled with white. Does anyone know how to get around this?

Part of the database I am creating includes 19 portals across 3 tabs (10 on first, 5 on second, 4 on third) - with the likelyhood that more will be added. These portals are designed to help employees track status' that jobs are at. I wanted to create a way to minimize/maximize portals as desired by the employee to make it easier to see what you want and only what you want. Hi there... we have a product information table and layout which shows product information. They are all different products and some have options/data that others do not have... For example we sell washing machines that have a spin speed and load capacity And we sell fridge freezers that have a cubic capacity but obviusly not a spin speed. I have a list of Dogs - each dog has one vet; but each vet could be attached to many different dogs. So I have a join table between the two so that: Dog - dog vet - VetClinic. In the dogs layout for entering I have a portal that should allow the person to pull down a list of vet clinics to choose which one their dog goes to. One of the things that you need to do to take advantage of FileMaker 13 styles and custom themes is to apply styles to objects. It will go faster if you can select the objects you want quickly in a batch and then do something with that batch like assign the default style or another style. Cmd-Option-A will select all fields. That's nice but it would be so much more helpful if it was a little more precise like - select all the fields with drop-down menus. I was thinking that maybe a special keyboard shortcut with an extra key held down might do this. Hope springs eternal. I've tried Cmd-Shift-Option-A but no luck there. I have built many layouts using the typical approach of basing the layout on the Line Item table and using a list view with header and footer and it work great. However, I am designing a solution now where the line items currently are not products as much as they are brief descriptions of the work to be done of varying lengths. I plan to move them away from this to a more structured "Parts" table, but the transition may not occur for a while. Obviously, by using the standard method I would have to make the body part and associated "Product Name" field large enough for the longest description. Hi everyone. This one's simple I'm sure. I have a text field where my client can type freely, but most commonly uses two key phrases (PAA and DRM). In another field, I need to format the text color to red when either of these phrases exist in the other field. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I cannot find the answer to this. I'm not a programmer, but I had a very little experience with python, and I used to use list variables. How do I use them on FileMaker Pro? I would really love to set a list and be able to retrieve the last value, the first, the third, etc. I remember in python it was as easy as ListName[numberofitem], and I could even use ListName[-numberoftheitembackwards] Am I missing something obvious? I have a layout for my Contacts, in list view. Each row contains the Contact Name and a POPOVER to edit the Contact information. Â When the list is longer (beyond the iPhone 4s screen size), click the popover to edit, the title bar seems to slide up (see pics), and I see a single field fully, click 'next' and it scrolls to the next field...
