I was a bit surprised to notice that I can not check 'Minimum version allowed' to 13 in a file while it is being served. I just wanted to verify that others experience same thing. My thinking is that, since we are IN the file, and if anyone is in the file, FileMaker can not test & prohibit a User from opening the file so instead it just disallows the action across the board. I would think FM would be capable of testing that currently there are no 12 served Users in itself and would allow the checkmark.

Greetings all, My company has a remote virtual Windows Server 2012 instance set up with an installation of FileMaker Server 13. One issue we are seeing in the logs and have experienced ourselves is that occasionally a FileMaker client is getting kicked off the server even though the user is actively using a hosted file. The error is as follows: 'Client "Fake Person" no longer responding; connection closed. (10)'. I have tried to research what might cause this error. My understanding is that FileMaker Server will periodically ping connected clients to verify the connection. If the ping fails, the user is disconnected. In that case, the previously mentioned error will s…

Hi folks, I had a long explanation typed out for this one, but lost it with an errant mouse click, so I'll just cut to the chase, and back fill any info as required. We're having major issues with our FMSA12 server bogging down under the load of too many CWP sessions (they vary from as few as 3 to as many as 127 from observations so far). So, my two big questions are: What's the 'sweet spot' for setting the number of concurrent sessions? How much in the way of 'resource units' (memory, CPU) does each session consume on the server? I no longer have the time right now to type out a long-winded background for this one, but please feel free to ask for any more…

Hi all We have recently installed a new instance of FileMaker 13 server to replace our version 10. An issue we're having is that because 13 server seems to install its own instance of Apache we need have this run scripts in cgi-bin Has anyone done this? or configured 13 server to use another version of Apache rather than its own installed version? In previous versions you just used OS X server version of Apache and it was easy ... not now. Can anyone help or offer any advice? Many thanks Marc

Hi My question is about moving files that are linked in a container field. Our company has recently restaructued shared network drives. I have moved all of the linked.pdf or linkd.doc files to new folder structure, the link in the container field still points to the old location. I have created a Calculted Text field to retrieve the patch using GetAsText ( Document container) formula i.e. filewin:/G:/XXXX Syd/ARCHIVE/XXXX SHARED/XXXX ONLINE/XXXXXXscreen/XXX Clearances/Correspondence with rightsholders/XXXXXXX16102012.pdf Is there a way to update the container link to the new folder location? Should be replaced to newer path. Thanks FileMaker Serv…

Late 2013mac pro 12 core 2.7gHz  OS = 10.9.5  FMS = 13.0v4  Attached graphic shows elapsed wait time on the same piece of hardware and databases with similar number of clients doing simliar day to day work.  Day 1 with 64 gig of RAM ( half to FMS ), and Day 2 with 16 gig of RAM ( half to fms )  All performance metrics look to have improved with less memory. This of course defies my logic.  Does anyone have any insights?  Thank you, Drew

Hey there, I'm currently building a web interface that interacts with our filemaker solution (FM Server 13) and have run into some performance issues. We have a table which has 161,000 records, and I am exposing 6 of its fields via a layout. When I run a filemaker find command via the API, looking for specific values in 3 of these fields, it takes extremely long for the results to be returned (up to a minute sometimes). The result is usually 1 or 2 records. For what its worth, I have another table with 73,000 records that does not have performance issues. I've tried to use xdebug to profile my PHP code, and the majority of the response time is this one findCommand…

We run a webserver in a datacenter based on CentOS Linux. We have our website running on that server. For the client portal we use a connection to our local Filemaker 12 Server via FM_API_for_PHP_Standalone.zip. We have a good connection (tested with fmi-test sample database) to out local server. So that works. We have run the filemaker php code for many years on the local server with no problems. Now I've moved the php code to the webserver and installed and configured FM_API_for_PHP_Standalone.zip correct (php date and php curl modules installed, path updated, etc). As said, the fmi-test sample runs correct on our webserver to the fms12 server. My code generates…

Maybe I’m the last one to notice this, but I’ve come to appreciate that Filemaker Server backups don’t replace the copy of any database that has not changed during the daily backup for instance. The result is that if one has the verification box checked it doesn’t happen for those databases. What’s interesting is that one can see the pattern of change simply by looking at the pattern of successful consistency checks. Where I seem to recall reading about databases where there is no change, not being replaced with each backup, I don’t recall anyone mentioning that by implication there would be no verification happening in those circumstances. Did I get that about right…

Hello, I currently have 3 databases running on filemaker server through a dedicated server. I understand form the filemaker server settings we can set the maximum amount of users that are allowed to be connected to the server. However, is there a way to set the amount of maximum users allowed to connect to a specific database? In one of the databases I would only like to to allow 1 user to connect to the database at a time. Giving priority to the first connection. Is this possible?

I'm doing something new so pardon me if I don't have all the details. My Company would like to get daily snapshots, for example, how many orders are in-house. Then you can graph and track the trend: are the number of orders going up or going down. My understanding is that the server (Filemaker 11 server standard) can utilize the "Schedule" feature to run the script. "created a schedule", selected my database and entered username/password. Selected the script to run. No timelimit, Set the frequency (currently every 1 minute since i'm testing it) My script: Goto TrendTable layout make a New Record Insert Current Date into DateField Insert Current…

Hello, I have been using FMS to host my databases for quite some time and I have had relatively no issues. Recently, we have had a bunch of employees adding records and data. As the database gets larger it seems that we are having problems. Right now the server is running on a dedicated machine with 4 VCPU cores, 4 Gb Ram, and windows server 2008 R2. The data is transferred via the hospital network that the database is hosted in, which is relatively fast. The problem I am having is so bizarre. All of my scripts run slow except when they have the script step "New Record request". Even clicking the button "New record" causes the database to load for a good 3 mi…

As stated above, no idea where this came from. Last successful edits performed a few days ago, today, no modifications allowed. Logged in as admin remotely as well as on the server itself, same behavior. Can't change anything in the file, or in the security settings etc. This is on the MacPro running 10.6.8, latest available OS patches, server version 11.0.5.510, running with IWP, all other web options off. Security: FM accounts only; List only authorized DBs; SSL enabled. I did install the SSL patch for 11 several weeks ago, but no adverse effects were noted at the time... Any ideas welcome...

We setup FMS 13 Trial and it works exactly as expected. And although FileMaker does make an effort to make deployment easy, in actual practice it's not really easy for casual users like me. I spent quite a bit of time online figuring things out that were actually simple. Now it works, but we are using the trial, which runs out in a few weeks. I'm looking at our options. Our situation: We need shared access to our database between two users and we need it for two years at the most. My co-author and I are collecting data for a forthcoming book. We are physically separated by about 30 miles. I am a very long-term user of FileMaker Pro so I set up a database that we could…

Just talked to FM tech support, they currently have no guidance on this. Anyone have any comment on if/how this affects the server? I just read this post on the FM company forum: Eliminating the POODLE Vulnerability in FMS 13 on OS X Forum post posted October 21, 2014 by JohnDCCIU, last edited October 21, 2014 47 Views Title: Eliminating the POODLE Vulnerability in FMS 13 on OS X Your post: I did a little playing around to see if I could eliminate the POODLE vulnerability in FMS 13 running on OS X. Hi All, I've mainly used Mac Servers for the majority of my databases, so apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge of Windows IIS. Currently running Windows Server 2008 R2 for one of my clients servers. Previous to upgrading to FMS13 the default IIS web site worked along side Instant Web Publishing. When I upgraded earlier in the year to FMS13 it wouldn't allow both the default web site and web direct to run at the same time (due to port conflict), so it disabled the default web site in IIS and created a FMWebSite site. This was fine at the time as the server is only used for FileMaker, and web direct was working fine. The client has now bought a domain na…

From time to time, I'm asked to restore a backup of a single fmp12 file on my Filemaker Server 13 installation. Up until now, I've been going into FMS Web Control Panel, closing the file, downloading the current file, downloading the latest backup file (every two hours, a backup is done), deleting the current file, and reuploading the backed up file using the "Share" button in Filemaker Pro 13 on my Mac at the office. This procedure isn't very sophisticated, and is really just for occasional use. I've been thinking about how the same result can be achieved by logging onto the FMS Server's Mac command line via SSH, something I can already do from my iPad. This would…

I have a solution hosted on FMS. Latest version. I access the files from a Mac desktop running Lion and a laptop running Yosemite. Using the desktop I've gotten into the habit of using the Data Viewer as a place to experiment and learn, mostly about Execute SQL. Accessed from the desktop machine, these calculations are always available when selecting the Watch tab. On the laptop (Yosemite) machine, around half the calculations are missing. Same server, same file. Suggestions?

I downloaded and installed FMS Server 13 Trial on an iMac running 10.9.5 (Mavericks) . Nothing else is running. I believe the deployment was successful- in fact, it is very straightforward. It's on one machine. There is one problem: Clicking on Activity/Databases, I see the databases that I uploaded, including FMServer_sample. The problem? When I select one of the uploaded files, then click on the icon on the upper right (looks like a folder), I select 'Open', but nothing happens; the file stays closed. This might explain why I can't see any of the server files from client machines running FMA 13 in Yosemite. They do see the server (at 192.168.1.105), but the…

We have recently moved our FM13 server to a remote location, and are experiencing rather long first file startup times. The odd thing is, the slowest file to open is by no means the largest or most complicated file. I have FM13 advanced - but do not know how to use many of the advanced features. Is there a way to "look under the hood" as a file starts up, to see what is slowing things down?

I hope someone can help me. When our xserve requires a hard reboot, the Filemaker Server Daemon starts up like it’s suppose to. But one our databases is listed as closed, reopening within server admin is futile, it attempts to open but ultimately stays listed as closed. 1)Can you do multiple daily backups while database is active with logged in users? FileMaker recommends against this. 2)Can we backup to an external drive? FileMaker’s backup path requires it to be on the same volume. Is there a work around for this? --- Thanks!

I run a FSMA 12/12 FMPA on a newly configured logical Windows 2008 R2 server. The FMPA12 client runs every two seconds a script on the server that looks whether a PDF report must be created. This FMPA12 client, although constantly active, is disconnected every one hour or so. The FSMA 12 log shows: client .... no longer responding, connection closed (51). This issue is regularly discussed in several forums, but FileMaker as usual never comes up with a solution. Exactly the same functionality running on another logical Windows2008 R2 server for years without problems. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance

I have been having some installation difficulty with getting my FMS 13 onto our Windows 2012 R2 box. When it installs, it gives me the well known dialog about ports 80 & 443 being required. It says port 443 is in use. When I called Filemaker, they walked me through a netstat -ab | more command. That command showed that 443 was listening but line #2 said: "Can not obtain ownership information" So, now I don't know what part of the 2012 Windows OS to address to clear that port. I also don't know *precisely* how to set up the firewall (or if it needs to be set up) so that may be a problem as well. Any ideas would be of great help! Thanks! …

FMServer 13.03 on WIN Server 2008 r2. Applied 13.04.400 update. Immediately after reboot could not open hosted files from client desktop shortcuts. Also tried to open by browsing using remote dialog, can see the host but no file, tried typing server ip and host name gets me error message saying the host could not be found or database is not hosted. Moved database to different server ( WIN Server 1012 r2) with clean FMServer install and only 13.03 update. Same results. Can open files from FMPro installed on server using open remote dialog. Freaky and frustrating. Any suggestions?

I'm working to update an older solution that is hosted on FMS 13. It includes a container field for scanned copies of paper contracts. The container field data is stored externally. Which I close the database on FMS and then download it to my machine for updates, FMS downloads both the FM file and the folder containing the external files. The scans are rapidly adding up, so downloading everything really slows things down. Is there any way for me to download just the FM file? Nothing in my update will ever touch the external files, so it's ok if they're not accessible to me during the updates. Thanks in advance.

We have a (fortunately) backup server we are trying to bring up and we testing our PHP/CWP solutions on it as the last step. Up to this point, everything seemed to be working fine: all the canned server tests (well, IWP and CWP) had worked OK; a couple of add-ons appeared to be working fine; client access was good; custom IWP solutions were good. Then we ran into a problem with the CWP solutions that we have. We have a login system where you start at an Index page, it reroutes you Login if you aren't logged in. The initial redirection and showing of the login page works OK. But when you log in, it apparently fails to authenticate you and just returns error: "XML…

Hello - I have FMS 13 installed on a Mountain Lion Server, everything works fine except I received a notification from our vulnerability scanner about openssl - the website banner for my server reads: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2014 13:56:13 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.26 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.26 OpenSSL/0.9.8y Last-Modified: Sun, 20 Apr 2014 18:02:37 GMT As you can see it is using openssl 0.9.8y. I work in education and have been using FM 12 for our databases and with that IWP to share with the people involved. I would love to upgrade to FM sever 13 so that we can use Webdirect. However, the computer we are using it on also host web related things using the ports FM requests to use. (see as follows). Ensure that no existing websites on the master or worker machines use port 80 or 443. These ports are used by FileMaker Server on both machines. If the FileMaker Server installer detects an existing website using these ports, the installer prompts you to let it disable that website. Am just setting up new X-Serve as a dedicated Filemaker Server. It has a flash drive with the OS on it, and a 3x1TB RAID5 set, which I'm just formatting/striping. Now, I have to decide how to use the RAID set. My first thought was to mount it somewhere like /Library/FileMaker Server/ but I'd be interested in any other comments. Also, not sure if Mac OS X mounts volumes in quite the same way a Linux, perhaps a symbolic link is the way to go, something like (as root): mkdir /Volumes/Macintosh RAID/FileMaker Server ln -s /Volumes/Macintosh RAID/FileMaker Server /Library The essence is to keep frequently changing files off the main drive which is an …

Hello, I'm new at FileMaker and trying to get data out via the API. The issue I'm having is when I create a newFindCommand and execute it the resulting record set contains as many rows as there are in the layout but each row is the same. More specifically, each row is a copy of the FIRST row in the database. E.g. I'm looking for products with a product code like 'XXX', of which there should be 7. I get 7 rows back but each one is the same product. I've looked a couple of tutorials online and they do exactly the same operations I do so I'm lost as to why my results come out this way. Any advice? Thanks

Hi Folks, I am a sysadmin but a new user of FMP13 server and at our university we use InCommon SSL certs (they are free to us), which are widely accepted and have worked well for websites, etc. However, at first glance it does not appear to be possible to use an InCommon cert with FMP13 Server -- am I correct about this? Hi When I set up FM Server 13 on one machine, and install a SQL Server External Data Source, referencing a SQL Server installation on a second PC, my ESS connections from the client PCs work perfectly. But when I install FMS 13 on the same machine as the SQL Server (the client's preference) and set up an ODBC connection there, my External Data Source is not seen by the client PCs. The SQL Server I'm told has been installed as a virtual server (this stuff not my forte). Is this a known issue? You can't have SQL Server and FM Server and ESS all onthe same machine? Or must I be doing something else wrong? As a test, I did the non-recommeded thing of installin…

FileMaker Server uses Apache on OS X, and edits the configuration file ( /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf ) and enables apache. This means that if one is running filemaker server, one is (usually) running apache. The new 'shellshock' bug would seem to be a concern in this situation. I'm running a few OS X servers that have FM Server and Apache running. I've decided to stop apache this morning until I understand the risks. I tried to edit the existing references by adding .fp7 to the end of the filename and tried to create a new data source. However, when adding the remote server, it does not display any databases (as they are not compatible) and I unfortunately cannot convert them at this time.

Hi, I'm having a problem with sharing a database, i just cannot solve. the technical department of the company uses a filemaker database to keep track of the materials in stock. For ease of use, they want to share the database so colleagues can access and change the database items from other computers. I followed the procedure on the filemaker pro website to share the database using the client, not a filemaker server. At first this looks ok, the database is accessible from other computers, and the fields can be updated. However, when another user logs in on another computer, the share settings change on the Host. more specifically, the "network access t…

This import script has run for 1-2 months non-stop, no problems. The script runs fine when: 1) I run the script manually from the scheduler in FileMaker Server Admin console. 2) run from FileMaker Pro But I m not really interested in any manual approach. The problem is that when the scheduler in FileMaker Server Admin console executes the script every 5 mins; an email is issued in essence telling me this: last scripting error (718).

FMS 3.0.4.400 MacBook Pro 10.9.5 I have served files which have never crashed. I do not restart if it improperly closes and logs show no issues. This solution has worked fine for weeks. I have no virus scan – I follow all the proper procedures and I still have this problem which appeared this morning: When I try to modify schema as full access (confirmed in data viewer), nothing happens. I get no message as to why – it jumps indicating it recognizes the 'delete' click but it does not delete the field. If I try to modify a layout, it tells me the file is not modifiable. I have closed the files, stopped server and reopened and even restarted the FMS box and th…

Hi fmforums! I'm drawing up a simple database management tool to manage multiple databases in FMP11. Nothing fancy, just the ability to assign users to multiple databases on FMServer 11, and then run a script to add these users to the assigned databases. I have created the following fields in my database table: Filename ExportFilename SvrLocation WinLocation MacLocation on the basis that the database filename would be recorded under filename and the full path to it would be recorded under WinLocation - if stored on a PC, MacLocation, if stored on a Mac and SvrLocation if stored on a server [just covering the bases] The script step that I'm having iss…

I'm wondering if it's possible to save a pdf using server-side scripting and then attach it to an email. It's not the emailing that's the problem. It's the actual saving of the pdf that I'm trying to figure out. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Brandon

I was a foolish boy to assume that using a local relative path would easily translate when moving a file from a local context to the server. The script now returns error 800. If I hardwire a path location in the script can I save the PDF to the server?

I have a client insisting on hosting my database on an external SSD connected to an iMac via an external USB 2 port. I've tried to tell him that it's a bad idea...that access speeds and latency with USB 2 will seriously hurt server performance! Maybe if I can send him a few other thoughts from other seasoned pros he will listen to me. Am I exaggerating the performance zap or is this a horrible idea?

I have hunted everywhere in FMS admin honestly I have. I have served my files and I have been changing them and now I want to zip a set so I closed the files or should I get the backup? I know I must be careful. There should be a button in FMS admin which when I select a file, it closes it nicely and presents a download dialog. Yes I am backing up also but I have iPad files and I want to keep them together as a set. I do see that I can email a file to myself but is that safe? I thought they should be zipped before emailing files.

I believe pre v13, you could edit the favorite host preference file. I just migrated my mac to a new machine and my favs are gone. In the past I would just replace the current local file from the backup, but it does not seem possible now. I even tried to modify the file with a text editor but that failed as well. Any suggestions, or do I have to manually enter again. file /Users/me/Library/preferences/com.filemaker.client.advanced12.plist

Utilizing a contact management db with a SIP-based (VOIP) phone system. This runs on FMPS 9-12 currently. I know I can convert 12 to run on the server, but is there a way to do this on 9 or 10? We have click-thrus on screen, for the user to have his phone automatically dial a phone# in the current record (he chooses any of the 8 fields which house phone #s).... The method of this is run thru an Applescript, residing on the client machine and running from the client machine. It feeds a code to the local VOIP server, which then triggers the phone call. Several challenges: new client boxes have to be 'key'd" to the VOIP server, they also sometimes "glitc…

I've got a .xls file(s) that are being imported through the server from a PSOS process. Most of the time, it works great! On occasion, the import process will stay stuck at the Import script step. It doesn't execute it, and it throws no errors. I know it's stuck there because I'm placed some sendmail command pre and post, and I never receive the post message. The virtual user server creates just hangs there and never logs out. It doesn't show as using any system resources through the statisics screen, but other real user notice a slowdown when this happens. I also tried the same thing through a server-side schedule, with the same results. The same file will import …

We're a university administration group currently running FMS 11 with FMP 11 desktop clients for our office users and a mixture of custom and IWP for people coming in over the campus network. It's time to upgrade to FMP 13 and we'd like to keep the local FMP 13 clients authenticating via the server's (running Windows Server 2012) Users/Groups but authenticate our web users via the campus' Shibboleth service. Has anybody any experience with Shibboleth and FMS 13, and can it be run alongside local Users/Groups authentication? Any information would be really appreciated. Thanks. Colin Hunter

Hi, I've read every article and help file I could find about this subject before posting. In the event I need to restore from a backup (I would assume from a progressive backup since this happens every ten minutes) which file should I copy and upload to the server? The files in the progressive backup folder all seem a couple of days old according to the OS time stamps. My regularly scheduled backups run daily. Perhaps I should change this to hourly, but it seems with progressive backups running every ten minutes that these files would be the most recent. Rick.

This Find issue started yesterday, after working successfully for more than a year as part of a script step. Now, this sort of Find does not work at all: I have a calculation field that stores a number, its value is derived by subtracting from a Number field a combination of other Number fields and Calculation fields that produce numbers. The value of this field is correct (when you look at the output in Browse mode, the number is the correct number), but when I attempt to perform a Find, the results are not what I searched for. For example, ten of the records have a negative value for this field, but a Find of "< 0" returns no records. Or, a Find for "5" returns a…

Hi, Ive been searching for a solution without any luck, or maybe this just isn't how a web viewer is suppose to work, however... From my filemaker database I would like the user to click on a button whilst in Kiosk mode and bring up a window containing a web page where they can interact and then close it down which works fine, however the page won't refresh unless i right click+control and click refresh (web page contains a calendar so can see its not refreshing). Is there a way for this to be done automatically? Im using... Set Web Viewer in my script and have tried Reload also. Thanks in advance Tom

I have a script that 1) loads a layout and on that layout there are a series of calculations that take a few minutes to calc. 2) it them exports that data to a CSV The script runs fine on a workstation (filemaker Pro 12), but when running on the server (server 12) it doesn't complete. It actually does run the scripts successfully, but no data is exported. After much troubleshooting, I think the problem is that the server is not waiting for the calculations to load before it goes on to the next step. as an example, on the workstation the process takes about 20 minutes to complete, yet on the server the script is over in about 15 seconds. Looking at the documentation, solutions, etc, I am unable to tell exactly where I should be looking to find a solution that will fit our needs. I integrated a credit care payment gateway (by Nelix Transax) into my database solution about two years ago. What I was not aware of at the time was the fact that the gateway provider requires my server to be scanned on a quarterly basis by ControlScan (even though I do not record or maintain any credit card information in my database). My solution also includes SeedCode's Zulu software creating an iCal server (using port 80). My most recent scan failed as a result of two vulnerabilities: the web server autoindex is enabled and the Apache ETag header discloses inode numbers. In my web server deployment, I have turned off PHP and Instant Web Publishing but I have t…

First post in this website, hope I'm not in the wrong place (I wasn't sure if I should've posted on the Import/Export forums). I'm a novice who has been tasked to sync 2 tables with all their records (They have the same fields) between a local computer and the online database. The process of importing it is rather easy thanks to the Import Records script step within filemaker 12, the problem comes with exporting them since there are no options to directly put them into the online database. I've Googled a lot and I've found some (paid) Frameworks that do that.. no integration within Filemaker to do the sync apparently. Then I found FMEasysync and I was excited.. th…

I have a test server FMSA 13.0.4 running on Windows Server 2012 Standard. Our back office folks have IE locked down such that it's unusable. I'm having to use Chrome to run the Admin Console, which is fine. I can copy the URL and paste it into Chrome an it gives me the warning, but lets me proceed.. Is there a way to keep the menu selection from defaulting to IE? I already have Chrome set as the default browser. It's a pain and very clunky. Meanwhile, I'm going to see if the backend folks can kill a b…
