I recently purchased a new server for our FileMaker databases to live on. To migrate our databases, I simply copy and pasted the Database folder from the old server to the new server. The old server was running Windows Server 2016, and the new server is running Windows Server 2019. The clients are running on Windows 10. The Clients are running FMP version 18.0.3.317 and the Server is running FMS version 18.0.1.123 The server is in our building, and all clients are accessing it locally using Bonjour. Hi, just upgraded to Filemaker Server 18 on Windows 2019 Server. In the Logs, during the backup, he often says something like "The file hasnt changed since the last backup so I am saving a hardlink to the original file only". (This isnt the exact text - its translated from German). When I look at the backups though it looks like the Server really actually did backup the exact file, which is the behaviour I want. What gives? Is this a false message of some sort? I absolutely do not want him "not" to back up dormant files. I transfer the files elsewhere later and for that I dont want any hard links or similar. Hello, we have filemaker server 18 hosted on windows server 2012, the server is connected to an APC ups thats keeps the server running for 40 minutes when power is loss, after power is loss we have to manually close the databases and stop the FM server , then we shutdown the windows server .... i would like to know if there is an automated command that close the databases and stop FM server when power loss is detected?

Hello, I'm new to FMP and want to set up a single database solution for a small team of 4 people. Our systems aren't running the latest MacOS to keep our older Macs reliable, so the server won't run on our system. I'm wondering what the best option might be for such a small team - can we a use a file sharing system to serve up the database to the other 3 people on my development team? Or do we need to buy into a cloud based server to do this? Thanks in advance!

So we have a FMServer 14 (FMS1), I installed a new Windows Server 2016 and installed FMServer 18 (FMS2) on it, moved all the databases and everything was working great. The "start" database references 20 other DBs and opens them in tabs and sub-boxes. We turn off FMS1 and the Start DB can't open any of the sub DBs. The client found an old email from the previous designer which hints that the scripts were referencing FMS1's IP address. Now I'm not sure what direction to go to. Anyone seen this kind of behaviour? I'm a network/infrastructure engineer and this is totally out of my league.

Hi everyone, I am trying to run a server sided script that will import a found set. The server sided script opens a handler file that opens data file 1, does the find, imports into data file 2. However, the search works in script debugger but imports all records. The script opens layout A, searches goes to layout b, imports. Also the import of the selected fields seems not be remembered. Windows Server 2016 Desktop version with updates through 8/17/2019. FileMaker server version 18 with current update installed. Installed in the default location. Hello all, gurus! We have trouble getting filemaker server 17's SERVICE (read WINDOWS SERVICE) starting as a regular domain user. In other words, if we install FMS17 with the default option of LOCAL SYSTEM USER, then the windows's FMS service starts with that LOCAL SYSTEM user. If we try to install FMS17 with the option of a regular DOMAIN USER, the windows's FMS service wont start at all. We are on Windows 2012 R2 server (all minimum requirments are met). Windows 2012 R2 is a domain member (not a domain controller, simply a domain member). Installing FMS17 was started with Administrator privileges. What we are trying to do is to simply ins…

I'm trying to have FM18 server generate a .ics calendar file from a calculated field. I have a calculated field that has the url formatted: If I were to type that into a browser it will download a .ics calendar file just fine. However if I use 'insert from url' to insert the .ics file into a container. It doesn't seem to work. Can you think of another method for FM18 server to generate a .ics file? I'm hosted on a remote server where plugins really aren't an option.

I have a client who purchased a canned non-FM solution and has grown tired of it. Prior to them moving to this, they had a FM Server 5.5 solution that has been backed up, and we have the original 5.5v1 installation disc etc. However, the Database Server will not start up and stay up. I know this is a known error, and I am in place to begin migrating it to FMP Server 12 (re-building the solution). But in the meantime to get the old layouts etc, I would like to SEE the old solution running and running properly so I have reference. I have an issue with only one computer that cannot open a database by its user, i've tried to open it with my login and still getting the error login message "The given account name and password cannot be used to access this file" and this happens with all usernames, in the server reads: Warning 661 security:Client "USER [ip]" authentication failed on database "DB NAME" using "à¨d²qP0=˱§Åã [fmapp]", keep getting this strange characters ("à¨d²qP0=˱§Åã [fmapp]") when tried to login, any idea how to fix this?

FYI, FMS 18v3 is out and fixes a subtle bug: sometimes after a reboot on macOS, the apache / httpd server fails to start up. Browsing through my event logs, I am finding weird scripting errors, like: ... Information 645 ...local Schedule "Import Main (every minute 8-20)" scripting error (401) at "Import : Import Main : 36 : Perform Find". How can a simple «Perform Find» script step (which works just fine in the server scheduled script, btw.) generate a scripting error? Occasions where the FoundSet = 0 should be considered «normal». I also have found other errors, that shouldn't be errors, like «Go to Record/Request/Page [ Next ; Exit after last ]», when there is no next Record. What is the best way to prevent this? Hello, I have been trying to figure this out for weeks and have gotten nowhere. I have a script that ran perfectly fine on server 17 and it also works when run locally on Pro 17 or 18, but it won't complete a perform find function when run on server 18. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and might be able to take a look at my script steps to see if I am causing something that isn't viable in server 18 scripting. Hello, I have a FileMaker server 18 installation that’s crashing about once a week. When I look at the event log for the time of the crash. I see client 1 not responding, client 2 not responding etc. until all clients are disconnected. All databases show as open in the server console. From a client PC no open files are listed for the host. If I telnet to the server from a workstation on port 5003 a connection can’t be established. Stopping and starting the database server does not help. Restarting the FileMaker service does not restore operation. The server is still communicating with the network. Hi: I am planning the upgrade to 18, I have 3 questions 1- I will host my own server, as I do now with 11. We are 9 users, normally not more than 5 are connected. I don’t want to install a Windows server so I will go with a Mac. I am thinking of the basic Mac Mini upgrading memory to 16 GB, is it OK? 2- Of the above 9 users, 4 are occasional. Today I updated FM Server from 17.02 to 17.05. After this update WebDirect refuses to start. When I click on the slider, it says "Enabled", but when I go back again it's Disabled. I have looked for Java updates, but I already have the latest update applied. I'm on macOS 10.13.6 with all security patches applied. I haven't installed SSL yet, but it worked before this update so.... Where should I look more? Please help! 😩

Hi All, Hoping you can assist. I have FMS18 running on Mac #1 in the office. This hosts a database with a lot of container fields. I recently moved the container fields external and during this move, have lost a lot of them. IN addition, the database is struggling to save new uploads to external storage. Ideally, I want the database file, hosted on Mac #, with external storage on an external HDD which is USB3 to Mac #1 All clients are on the same Network;. What am i doing wrong, because can't get it to work. Right now, I've moved the storage folders back onto the Mac #1, but am getting an error "Cant write to external storage"

Hi folks. I'm thinking of upgrading an FMS server, a physical machine that I own and administer, so I wanted some input on whether FM Server is going to benefit from more cores, as for example found in AMD's Ryzen CPUs or whether I should instead opt for less cores but with more performance per core (Intel). Does it utilize threads extensively when many clients are issuing requests, and if yes, has it been like that since, say, version 12 or is it just a recent development? And also, is this behavior similar in both macOS and Windows or are they different?

Hey Folks Im running Server 17 and have a number of scripts configured to run. Recently, some have stopped executing. What I mean is I select it to run (or the server runs it as scheduled) and then when I run it manually, there are records that have not been processed. So I checked logs log. I currently spend about $60 per month to a company that hosts my FMP 14 databases on a shared server. How complicated would this be to manage on my own? I am not interested in hosting sites for anybody else, just those for my own company. What kind of dedicated computer gear would I need to make this happen? Would I need to have a dedicated IP address? Can this be done by a rube like myself or would it be better to continue paying someone else for this work?

Mr. Ignoramus We have a solution in Canada where we moved the db from a hosting company to a LAN ( customers building ) They are using a Mac OS machine running FileMaker 16 server. We access the FM 16 server via apple's remote access, having trouble locating where we would put the index.html and php files for our web form that we used when we were hosting on an outside hosting company. The hosting company put the html/php file in the folder that designated our account number. I am working with a table of 1.5 million records. I am using relationships to isolate records from that table based on multikey fields that contain a list of the IDs that I want to access matched up with the primary key field of that table. There are multiple relationships to access and group the records needed based on a multitude of criteria but in short the problem is this. When I take a backup file from the server where all the databases are encrypted (EAR) the encryption password does not work. The password is the right one because it opens the server databases. I copied the file to my own computer and try to open it with filemaker 17 and the password doen not work. How do I upgrade from FM 14 so that I can access my FM database from both my MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14 and my iPhone? Currently I am single-user and my ambition to bump to 2 or 3 users is very low. For several months I have only been able to access the DB with my iPhone so programming is impossible. I was using a hosting service from 2015 until this problem but their solutions to this problem all seem to be poor choices since their serving is done via FM 16 (or maybe even older). I am willing to spend $540 to buy FM 17 but can I find a good hosting choice? Why is this update so difficult? (and expensive?). The FM mission seems terribly distorted now.

Hi...so I have FMS17 up and running on a new mac mini. So far so good!! I am having a tiny issue changing the back up folder location. Current Default Path: filemac:/Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/ So....I am trying to make the path a folder in Drop Box. Good afternoon, I have a client who has an issue with one of their solutions. Within the File Sharing settings, the Peer-to-Peer sharing is On and the option to display on Host is disabled. I am certain that the P2P sharing needs to be off and that I DO want to have it 'visible' from the Host, so I will DISABLE this 'hide' setting. The problem is that when I change these settings, and close the file, that the settings go back to what they were when I re-open. Hey.... Currently running FMS15 on a dell optiplex from 2015. No real issues to speak of. I want to upgrade to FMS17. Was thinking of switching to a Mac Server, wanted to know your thoughts. I do hit my server now from the outside and plan to use more heavily with images, uploading to my server into image containers, etc. Why switch...for one, my shop is primarily graphics and Mac based and we are just better all around with Macs. Unfortunately our IT security people want me to take Java to v8 U201 and I've been caught by Java updates breaking control of FMS in the past. FMS17: In my Import.fmp12 database, I have specified an external FileMaker database file:Main.fmp12 and added a couple of table occurrences to this file (with the same names as in Main.fmp12) and added the corresponding layouts. When I open Import.fmp12 from a client, I can see and work with all records of the Main.fmp12 file, just fine. From the client, I can also run any script just fine. Direct contact with the (local copy of the) database works fine through File–>Hosts–>localhost, and I can access the Admin Console via localhost:16001. Hi There, I am writing a system script that needs to be run using an admin account on a Windows Server 16 machine. However when I try to set this up it says that the script is missing or invalid. The login details I am entering are to an admin account on the local Windows Server 2016 machine. I have tried both these, and the default administrator account. I'm working on a set of FM solutions that all share data links between one another. Currently, I'm working on local versions of the files but eventually the solutions will be uploaded to FM Server. Hello, We recently upgraded from FMS 14 to FMS16 and one of our databases won't open via WebDirect due to the way it's named: the database title has an ampersand ("&") in it. This worked just fine for FMS14, but not for FMS16. The easiest solution seems to be to change the database title. I'm a little hesitant to jump into this because of a large number of externally held containers. How would one safely go about changing the database name (I'd like to change the "&" to "and") without losing the linked containers? Therefore, a landing page like «FileMaker Database Server Website» doesn’t make sense for us (looks a little bit like the Boston T in blue). Better would be to redirect a user to the company website, which resides on another server and has another subdomain. Hi All, I have a new install of filemaker 16 where I have "updated" all older databases to .fmp12. this is all fine and i can access all databases on the server. I can remotely access, all files are shared and have sharing turned on. However, when linking databases to each other remotely, it says "the file cannot be opened and is closed by the host" (but its open/normal on the server) The only thing I can find is that the server.pem file on the server is only 3Kb and this has been an issue before. Does anyone have a server.pem file (for filemaker server16) that i can try to see if this fixes my Issue? tia

All of a sudden for no apparent reason I am unable to load the console... get error status 500 I will try a Windows update for the server and restart but in the even I have to reinstall everything, is there a stored file that I can take a copy of that represents the saved Scheduled scripts? I have been using FM Pro on FM Server 13 since 2014 to organize a multi-college series of workshops with a handful of colleagues at other colleges in my university. The database is essential to our operation, but the number of users other than me needing to access it at any time is quite minimal. I must upgrade Server because my colleagues have upgraded to FM Pro 16 for a different, much larger operation that runs out of a different academic unit. FM Pro 16 isn't compatible with FM Server 13. Hi, I have fm 14 server running on a mac mini. I have recently upgraded to FM16 running Mojave on 2 x local macs. We started with one license, where only one of us could use FM at a time (as we knew), I have since bought another copy and and reinstalled FM16 on the local mac with the new serial number but the server still seems to think we are using the same copy?? and we are getting the attached error. I have completely uninstalled FM locally but still does not work. I have asked my FM guy, as well as 2 or 3 other people but everyone seems to be stumped?? Is there any way of clearer the cache which may be holding this old information? Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm getting this more and more intermittently. I can open the remote file from other machines just fine. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Has been happening since we went from FMP15/FMS15 to FMP17/FMS17. Off and on but more on lately. Rebooting has sometimes solved it in the past. Isn't today. I'm having to use different machines because it won't work at all today.

Hello All - I have a wildcard cert from Godaddy for my domain. I have successfully reinstalled this cert on Server 17 by using the White Paper from Steven & Wim - thank you! My issue is this: I would like to use the certs/key on other machines/platforms but adding the keyfilepass is causing issues with my linux firewall -> PFSense. I have tried omitting the keyfilepass option however the CLI tells me this is a problem. Is there a way to generate the CSR without using the keyfilepass option? This would give me more options on the other machines. Thank you! Jim

Hi all, I currently have a database hosted with an iMac/FileMaker server and I have about 11 computers that connect via the network daily and then from home using the IP address. Our database is filled with tons of conditional formatting and thousands of pdf’s. FileMaker at home is usable but a lot slower than using it on the network in our office. I am opening up a brand office in Alaska next year and it will be staffed with 5-10 employees and I need them connected to my database. On windows 7 (VMware on OSX), using FMP17 and Microsoft Access 2016 Trying to do a ODBC import and selecting the datasource, I get asked for Username and password, even if the Access DB is not password protected. The data sources are correct (tested from Livecode) and should be working without user name and password. On the properties of the ODBC pane setup the path seems correct (not pointing to 32): %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe What am I missing?

I have a developer subscription. My FMS17 works fine on OSX 10.12.6. I installed FMS17 on a Win7 (VMware) virtual machine (developer should allow up to 3 FMS) and FMS seems to work fine: I login, see the demo file, etc. The problem is that when I try to upload a DB from FMPA, both from OSX or from the VM Win7, I see the FMS but the login pane is greyed out. I reinstalled FMS to no avail. Is there a problem with Win7? Something else? Thanks Trevix

Because I write a lot of server side scripts and often using custom WPE urls, one of the most annoying things in FileMaker Server 17 is that it is now impossible to monitor the logs from the admin console. I always have to download them. I found an alternative way to monitor them, by using FTP. With some nifty perl scripts, I can now even tail the Event.log and Access.log. It's a whole other story for the other logs, like the wpe.log, the Stats.log... It is just impossible to download those over FTP. Earlier I already noticed they don't play nice with FSEvents on the Mac either. Has anyone here created a good solution to monitor those files, given that: …

Hi, there, I know that Microsoft recommends running the DC of a domain in a dedicated machine, and filemaker surely also would best placed on a dedicated host. Still, is it possible to run FM 16 (and the following releases) on a VM running the DC role? Performance is not an issue (it's a small environment), but the cost of an extra server license is. We have been having problems with some files not opening. A checkbox appears with this text: The file xxx could not be opened. Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on that host. This has been happening since we started using Filemaker 17. It is intermittent for clients to Filemaker Server 17. One user is still on 16 and, it seems, the problem is more frequent for him. It is consistently the same files that give the problem. Hi I have for years run macOS Server (mainly for OD and Filesharing and Websites) and Filemaker Server. This has NOT been supported by Filemaker since Web Direct, FMS13?.. but one could make it work using Reverse Proxy and setting other ports than 80 and 443 during the Deploy Server Setup. There is an exellent turorial on precursor.ca ‘s page called Reverse Proxy. Now.. In FMS17 there is no way to set the port, there IS no deployment step anymore, there ... anyway..they changed it a lot the whole setup and Apache use. Does anyone know how to make this work..? There are a few certificates listed on the FileMaker support web pages as tested for FM Server 17 and i am trying GoDaddy one as it is the cheapest one. On 2 servers i tried so far, after more hustle then expected, i managed to install the certificates and now i got an ORANGE lock on both stating that the certificate is there but can not be trusted. Why is this happening? Could it be that they listed the certificate that is not really working well with FM Server? I have FileMaker Server 17 running on my local machine. I'm trying to use the command line to backup a single file to a folder in my home folder using the following: fmsadmin backup filename -dest filemac:/Aslan/Users/chuck/project/folder/ Although it's unusual for a command line path to be specified as above, that's how the fmsadmin help backup help text specifies it should be (although I've tried using the standard POSIX path). Because I have only 1 external IP address in the office here, I have set up a reverse proxy on my Sophos UTM 9 firewall, they call it WAF or Web Application Firewall. In this setup, you define a number of "real" web servers with their internal IP addresses, you also define a number of "virtual" web servers by DNS name m type ( http or https ) and port ( 80, 443, or whatever you would like). Hi everyone, I'm a beginner in FM, and i'm trying to develop a solution that allows me to import data from a csv file. I have two related tables Customer ("parent") and Alerts ("child"), each one has a primary key and the Alerts table has a foreign key to conect with the Customer table. I have to populated the alerts table from a cvs file that could have lots of records so I want to relate this new data to the right customers automatically when i import it, the new data does not have a field with the customer ID (primay key) only has its name. Hi, I’m using FM 17 Sendmail with Multiple attachments on the server to send email via a selection of google accounts all managed under one Google Suite account. All accounts have already been set to allow less secure apps access, but what I have also found is for each account, email will not be sent unless the device IP (sending the email) is also known to the account. I can make this happen by logging into each account on the server via a browser so that the account learns the server IP, but this is problematic. Hi guys. Just a word of caution: The FM Server 17 Windows distribution (released just weeks ago) has (at least) one big flaw. If you opt for the Filemaker contained version of PHP during installation, you will get PHP 5.6.24, released early 2016! This version is so full of security holes that our security scanner practically throws a red card at it. Ergo: IF you do accept the built-in version..make sure you update it to the last release of PHP5 which is 5.6.36, released in April 2018. This version is also not bomb-proof, but a lot more secure. Why o why, Filemaker Inc? This is such a bad move.. And why hide the PHP files way down in an obscure folder …

Sorry upfront - I know this is technically not the correct forum, though I believe my problem is independent of the version number. We have a FM db hosted with a 3rd party - that server went down and I have been trying for days to get any response, but no luck. We also can no longer get into the Admin section or the FTP area. Since we had some reliability issues in the past, we did run manual backups daily and I have created a mirror image of the DB on another FM hosting service. We are using exchange on the same network which uses 443 so in previous version of FM I just changed the port to 4443. To get around this I used the router to forward port 4443 to the FM server and change it back to 443. This worked and showed me the databases, the problem is that when I try to login I get a blank page and no login box. I think this is due to the change in ports from the router as it works internally. The only options I can see to get this working if the listening port cant be changed, is to go back to FM16. Is there a way to change the listening port within the config files on windows? Thanks

We have a couple of servers running on AWS. As of the middle of last week we suddenly are having connection problems. The server logs mostly lists error 10, sometimes error 51. These customers have poor internet connection, so we have set up a server and a client in the cloud. The users connects to the client through an RDP session. It is a Windows enviroment with one customer using Windows server 12 and FMS 14, the other Windows server 16 and FMS15. My production Filemaker Server 14 running on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan (Not Mac OS X Server) has been running fine for a year since I last installed the Thawte SSL Certificate. Somehow java updated (probably by mistake) and it killed web direct. Simply down grading java does not work. I've went as far back and un-installing java and then FMS. Then rebooting and performing a clean install of FMS. FMS 16.04 on windows server 2012 R2 My hunch is something is wrong with all the site settings in IIS from uninstall and re-install. I just installed FM Server 17 on a machine (running Windows 2016 Server) to test everything out. During the installation, there are a number of warnings to click through if you don't have an SSL Certificate to install at the time of installation. Solved: I had a script step go to original layout. This went to the blank (opening) layout when run on the server.🙄 I have a script that is not performing as expected when I run it as a server scheduled script. The script needs to run every 1st of the month; find and copies invoices that are marked as subscription and mail the new invoice to the customers. The script runs as expected in FM client.
