In recent FMS versions before FMS17, you could create a daily backup schedule that would repeat every X hours. I need that in FMS17, but those options are no longer available in the web admin, and I have yet to find a way to do this via the CLI. If I want to run a schedule every hour of every day, do I need to create 24 backup schedules like back in the day?

I'm having more and more problems with users getting the error that they can't modify a record because they're already modifying it in another window. Except that they aren't. When I look at the server admin console, though, I'm seeing multiple connections for each user. One guy is showing 32 connections! Anybody have any idea what is going on? I have just upgraded FMS server from 16 to 17 on a windows 2012 server. Everything works fine other than the WPE, when i test it i receive error code 959, i have tried switching of and back on the wpe switch in the admin console. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Regards, Andrew

Currently, I'm running a FM development server (FDS) on a WHS2011 machine (based on Server 2008). This has been working fine. From what I read, FMS 17 will no longer work on Server 2008 based platforms, so I'm assuming WHS 2011 will not work. I figure I have a few options - 1) upgrade to something like Win Server Essentials 2016 that will support FMS 17 - a lot more expensive, may require new hardware, more hassle, and overkill for my needs 2) Consider the possibility of a Win 10 Pro -based machine to run it. I have just been obliged to change my setup to a different internet provider. FMS 16 running on OS 10.13.3. I am not an expert on configuring internet service setups, but having been trying to reproduce what existed on my previous provider. I am now in the strange position where Filemaker client and Webdirect work correctly from computers outside my local network via a DNS address. On the local network Filemaker client only works via the local address on FMS. The DNS address fails to connect. As for Webdirect it also fails to connect on the local network. I'm using the FileMaker JDBC driver to drive the data layer of a web application, and I'm noticing a periodic crash in the xdbc_listener process on the server. It doesn't seem to correlate to volume or load, and I can't seem to identify any other pattern in its occurrence. This is a strange issue that happened only after we upgraded from FMP11 to FMP16.0.3. We also migrated the FMS to a new windows 2012 virtual server, with a updated version of SQL 2012 (previously 2008). Most users (125+) can connect with no issues. But we have a handful of users (5-10) that cannot open the database at all. They either run the launcher and never get a login screen, or after they login the initial scripts start to search for the users data and it never finishes. So I have a hosted solution, with a dashboard with a couple portals. When I go to scroll a portal, scrolling even one portal screen has a delay of a few seconds, ie I click the scroll bar or try to drag it, and it takes about 3 seconds before it moves. Running locally, it's instantaneous. Running on a dev server on my LAN, there's a slight delay, but minimal. Having read various threads about this situation, my first thought was it's due to a filtered portal, so I removed filtering, but that made no difference. Hi - I've had something odd happen a few times after uploading a local file to Filemaker Server. The server instance is being hosted by Soliant in their cloud, but I'm assuming this is not an issue of their particular configuration. I had enabled the fmapp privilege for appropriate privilege sets before uploading. It worked at first, but then later, users were unable to access the hosted file. I discovered that the fmapp extended priv was disabled for their priv set. I thought maybe I hadn't set it when I thought I did. However, today - the same thing happened with my full access priv set and I was unable to get in on the server to fix it as a result. …

Hi everyone and thank you for your kind help! I have some questions since I can't easly upload from FM Pro to FM Server, it says "File is in use" or "file is locked and can't be opened". Well, at this moment I'm the only one working with the server, and the file I'm trying to update isn't open by any host at all, so why is locked when I try update it? Considering that FM Server is "publishing" it it can be understandable that it is locked, but how to "unlock it"? Any button to "free" it? I'm new to this forum and even newer to FM... so this makes me a beginner but hoping to learn quickly.I've been hoping to find instructions on how to create a master-detail layout, not on the parent table. Hello, So I'm setting up WebDirect and for the first time setting up a worker machine. I initially set it up using the IPs of my two machines. It worked. I could access my DB with a browser. After setting up our router to forward port 80 traffic to the worker machine*, I found that it re-wrote the URL to the IP address which wasn't going to work. I'm running a Mac Server so I set up the DNS service to resolve the FQDN that is used by our remote IP (dynamic DNS) to the internal IPs and then set my two servers to use our internal name server. Hi all I have three backup schedules: hourly, daily and weekly. To reduce any lag experienced by end users during the day I am wondering if I should do away with the verification step for the hourly one, which would speed up the backup. I would keep it on the other two and would be emailed by FMS if there were an issue. But if there were a crash and I wanted to restore from the hourly one, how do I know the data integrity is OK? Obviously if there were an issue I would use the older daily one, but that is a risk I'd be willing to take if it sped things up. Thanks

Hi, we have a “log” table where a new “session” record is created when a user enters in the system, and when closing the database the is edited in order to keep the timestamp when the user enters and exit. This way we keep track of database usage time. The problem is when a user gets disconnected from the server (lost internet connection, or some issue with iPhones or iPads). Is there any way to get the approximate time when a user gets disconnected? is there any workaround to know how long a user has been connected to a database after loosing connection? Any tip would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi, We have ESET Endpoint Security on the FileMaker Server 16 machine (Single machine deployment). When ESET Firewall is active with default settings, We couldn't access FileMaker databases from FileMaker Pro using external network (WAN). We opened the ports 5003, 16001, 80 and 443. Still no success. If we completely disable Firewall, or If we open "All" ports, we could access the databases. Please someone direct us how to open only FileMaker Server specific ports on ESET Firewall.

So, Windows is forcing this Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Yes tried every angle and tutorial to block this, does not work) and once this happens its breaks Web Direct Only... The Admin page works fine and users can even connect to the file directly just not via Web Direct. Something in this update is breaking this feature.... I even tried redeployment a few times. The only thing that fixes this issue is, a uninstall of Fall Creator which lasts a few days and re-installs again.... anyone have any ideas how to make this play nice with this update? Running FMS 13 and trying to run a simple PHP page from my website to access a database, but I'm only getting a blank page. Not sure if it's a port forwarding issue or a PHP issue, or something else. If I put my .php file and the includes ("FileMaker.php" file and "FileMaker" folder from the FMS PHP .zip file) in the fmi-test folder on my FM server and access it locally (http://localhost/fmi-test/myphpfile.php), the PHP file works fine and returns data, so I don't think it has any inherent issues, and presumably my FMS is set up correctly. I'm running FMS 16 on macOS 10.12.6. FMS is up and running, and I can access the hosted databases. But I can't get into the admin console. When I enter the credentials, it just sits there. It doesn't throw an error. It just doesn't react at all. Same thing when I intentionally enter an incorrect passcode. No error. Same behavior whether I use Firefox or Safari. Same behavior whether I try to come in remotely, or if I work directly from the server as localhost. So, something is wrong with web services rather than FMS, right?

This issue happened just after upgrade filemaker version from 14 to 16 Let me explain the problem in simpler way. We have three databases – A (20 files), B(15 files) and C (10 files) DB A is shared files with DB B and also DB B is shared files with DB A, same as between DB B and DB C. Now users are connecting it through citrix but we are getting 1 pop up which always show while you open application . Is anybody else having major problems with FileMaker Server 16? I'm having certificate problems, connection issues, scripting errors and now major calculation errors. It started out with repeated errors stating that my SSL certificate (which worked just fine in FMS 15) wasn't being recognized and I kept getting the "cannot verify server's identity) error. I'm running Server 12 with anywhere from 10-15 stations at a time consisting of a variety of v12, v13, v14 as well as Advanced on the client side. Recently purchased a few license keys from eBay and I'm getting unique license key errors on my network. The keys definitely look unique to me, but maybe they're not? I have 2 databases, each created with filemaker pro 16. They are both mounted on filemaker server 16. So it's database A and database B. In database A I added 3 tables from database B. I made a layout with some portals in database A that show information of database B. I have a client who is running FM Server 11. They don't want to upgrade FM Server right now. I am trying to move my FM Pro 12 database to their network. It can't be run on FM Server 11 since the file format is incompatible. Is there any problem with installing FM Pro 12 on the server and using that to share my v12 database? I have 2 servers running Windows Server, one is running FMP Server 16 and the other IIS 8.5 I'm trying to set up a reverse proxy from the IIS server to our FMP server but am getting errors. I know that it is not ideal, but I havent been given clearance on using the Windows 12 server computer.. Hi, I get error 800 in the "Export Records" script step when executing it as PSOS. The file path is set in a variable ($path) as a calculation: Get(TemporaryPath)& "tmp.fmp12" This script works well when executing it to save the file to the local temporary folder (OS X El Capitan), but returns an error when executing it as PSOS (Windows Server). I believe it can be a permissions issue, but I thought the temporary path was accesible from FM Server "by default". Anyway, any insights are appreciated, thanks!

Hi, I've just installed an SSD into a Mac mini server and done a fresh install of macOS Sierra. I installed FMS16 and ran the updater to bring it up to version 16.0.2.212. When trying to access the sample database over WebDirect, I get an error about JavaScriptConnector and a big, red box complaining about cookies. See the attached image. I'm using the latest version of Chrome, and cookies are enabled! Shouldn't the FMS16 installers have installed all of the necessary JavaScript files that it needs? What gives? I'm having multiple connection issues with FileMaker Server 16 running on a Windows 2016 VMWare server. Background: I had my solutions running on a virtual server hosted with FMS 15. I started to have problems with overnight scripts not running and random slowness. My VMWare vendor suggested moving FileMaker to a new virtual server. what is the most efficient way to back up a FM db on a FM11 Server when we have no access to the Admin Console (invalid password), but still have access through FM directly (open external sources)? We have been unable to get any response from the hosting company in weeks for that issue and worry that soon the whole thing will shut down. We have been keeping updates for the individual tables, but of course, that will result in a lot of effort when relocating to a new host.

Hello FMForums, First off, hoping that I posted this in the right section. I have a script that is scheduled to hourly pull the URL source from a currency conversion site and store it locally for use. If I run the script from my computer on the database it will work fine, however if I run the script from the server it will give me a "scripting error 1631". I found that if you're inserting a "url" from a file then you must use file:/// before it or something like that to fix the issue, however I am inserting from an actual URL and am not sure if I've done something wrong. Windows Server 2012 R2 Filemaker Server 15 Filemaker Pro Advanced 15.02 We got a corrupt record in one of our solutions, so I decided to do a recover on that file. It turns out that you can't do that on a FM installation on a Windows server. You get the following dialogue: "This command cannot be used by this installation of Filemaker." Douh? So I had to download the file to my computer and make the recovery locally, and then upload it again. Tedious. Does anyone know why this strange limitation is set?

I just installed Filemaker Server 16 on a server with 4GB of RAM; it seems to be running fine. However, in reviewing FMS16 documentation, I see that the minimum specs for RAM is 8GB. Hi all, I have a problem connecting to my server, The FMS 16 is installed on windows server 12 on one machine and all required ports are opened, when trying to conncet from other devices with FM pro 16 installed on windows 10, whether it sees the server name by itself or I enter the IP. it keeps saying "waiting for response" as in the below image then "connection failed".. I have an FM server running on Mac v13.0.5 that we are doing quite a bit of Server side scripting on. These are either scheduled scripts that run every few minutes throughout the day or "perform on server" scripts that are triggered by users. Every week or so the script engine appears to hang and users will see FileMaker hang when they run a script that includes a Perform on Server step. The scheduled scripts will also not complete. The script engine process is still running but it apparently quits responding. I'm able to get things rolling again by running the fmsadmin stop / start fmse command from the Terminal. There seems to be a bug with FileMaker Server 16. Server scripts or scheduled scripts do not work when using the 'Insert Calculated Result' script step as part of a find, but it does on FileMaker Pro. A workaround is to use the 'Set Field' script step, which is fine, but this bug caused us some issues and will no doubt cause others problems.

I have 2 clients with a similar problem. Each are artist foundations, each about to receive a large volume of digitized video, audio and photography. A portion will be managed by FileMaker, and a portion will simply be stored in a traditional file sharing environment. I got assigned the task of the upgrade from 13 to 15 on a client's Mac Mini. We inherited this client and I have not done any of the administration of the server to this point. I have 0 knowledge of either FMP or Macs so this will be quite the learning experience. First task is to upgrade the OS from 10.8.5 to something more recent that meets FMP 15 requirements. So our IT group migrated a Filemaker 14 server with a business application that I support. Since the migration, the system response has been horrible. Screens that took about a second to render before are now taking 15 seconds. I have monitored the server and the most significant statistic seems to be network latency. Most of the other statistics seem fine, but latency has gone from 20-30 milliseconds to 800 milliseconds at times. Does anyone have experience with the Scale HC3 architecture running Filemaker solutions? What has your experience been? Are there words of wisdom to make this better?

We are currently running FM 12 with Super Container that was installed on 03/06/2014. I understand that we would need to upgrade, but will it wipe out what is there? I am the IT person for our company and when our FM programmer died, I took over with FM. I know that I might sound stupid, but I want to make sure that we won't lose any data. I'm thinking of redoing my fm server and upgrading to 16. My users experence a lot of slow down when remote users are connected or when multiple users are in the same layout/table doing data entry. Im hoping setting up a raid 1+0 might solve this. I have a Mac Pro trash can server with 16gb ram. Right now server and the database are stored on the same single ssd. should I keep the server app installed on the internal ssd and move the database file to a thunderbolt raid? Ok. So I know to use layouts in form view when I do not want to fetch records. I read that somewhere. But I notice I can have fields added in table view and they do not show in form view. If the layout is kept in form view and only switched to table when i want to view the fields does this mean records will still not be fetched when in form view and the fields do not show? Same question if in form view but I have fields on a second tab of a tab panel and do not display it? as long as I do not switch to table view or display the second tab, no records are fetched? I have installed FMS16 and FMPA16 locally on my Mac Pro (running El Cap) for testing purposes. The admin console doesn't seem to be showing the correct information. It is always listing connections that are no longer present, even after having restarted the server via command line, removing the file, etc. After uploading a new file to the server, the new file doesn't appear in the admin console, but can be listed via command line. Access also works by web direct, etc. Anyone else having issues with the admin console on FMS16? What did you do about it? Yesterday, I tried to move a script that creates a PDF ( and mails it ) to a server side script, as the "save records as PDF" script step is now supported in server side scripts. It did not work correctly, and generated an error 800 (file could not be created on disk) in the server log. Rather generic error. I changed the script to point to a blank layout instead. No more error. A nice blank PDF was created. I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge. We would like to switch from FMS 14 to FMS 16. Version 14 resides on a VM and the hosted databases have container fields that use external links back to actual files stored on this VM. Can we simply install FMS 16 on top of FMS 14 and by doing so preserve the external links to container information? Also, where do the files corresponding to containers actually reside? I know they are somewhere on the VM, but not sure where and whether they are easily recognizable based upon their names. Again, my apologies for asking what many might consider basic questions.

Hi all, I recently upgraded my Filemaker Server 13 to Filemaker Server 14. To get the new version to install, I had to downgrade my Java8 from u113 to u67 (separately installing the old Java version, not allowing the FMS installer to install Java itself). I also had to fiddle around to make sure it was running the httpd which comes with FMS and not the one bundled with Mac OS X El Capitan. My question is, am I now save to upgrade Java back to the latest version. I'm not anticipating needing to install FMS14 anytime soon, but does the "Deployment" part of FMS use Java, and if so, is it similar fussy about which version?

Good morning all, We are currently running FMS12 hosted on a Windows Server 2003. All clients are also windows users and are running FM12. Everything has been fine, then yesterday, due to an internal office move, we had to move the server to a new room. Everything was closed down properly and restarted correctly. I am running a server side script that attempts to update records in a MySQL table that is set up as an external data source. It runs without issue for hours to weeks at a time then gets hung on error 512 (Record was already modified by another user). The problem is that I can't figure out how to capture and handle this error. I've tried adding "If get(lasterror)=512 then <skip this record and continue to next> just after the 'Go to Record(next)' but it never gets to that step. I have a look up table of products with parameters such as style, size, colour etc and of course price. In another table I have the items ordered which allows you to choose a style, size, and colour and looks up the price form the products table. I achieve this calculation using a field which contains a concatenated string like this 'style-size-colour' in both tables and a relationship based on this field. I use this relationship to return the price. It works the first time, but when I change one of the parameters the price is not immediately updated. How do I force a refresh?

I'm looking for both guidance and software to assist in FileMaker Change Control. With over a 100 deployed solutions across multiple servers the process change management from dev > test > production is very labor intensive. BaseElements helps a lot but it is only one part of the puzzle. Porting the data from production > test across these solutions and then doing UAT and QA is again, labor intensive. I'm wrapping my head around the Standby Server feature, and there's only one aspect that I can't figure out. I use Webdirect, so I'm forwarding port 80 to the internal ip address assigned to my primary server. If that were to go down, my standby server would take over - but it's assigned a different ip address - so my router's port forwarding rules will still be pointing to the ip address of the primary server. Is this accurate? If so, is there a way around this?
