    Hey everyone I am a newbie feeling my way around Filemaker Pro 13. I got a database I am working on and I need some help with something. What I want to be able to do is have a number of check boxes with labels next to them and whenever I put a check in the box it will add digit one to another field on the same layout adding up as each time it's checked. So for example, having students who come and attend a class I want to track how many times they came to class by clicking that checkmark. Having it add the number of times I checked the box, totaling the days. Hope I've explained it clearly enough. Thank for your help!

Several years ago I volunteered to help an artist friend by setting up a graphically complex database which made central use of a specific dingbat font (for musical symbols). Long story*** but... Now, on a much newer computer without the font, faced with a request to re-generate the printout, I don't even see how I can find out what the font name WAS, since FM only shows me the substituted-in font when I [convert and] open the file. (And, to be clear, there's no way of even approximating the desired output with a different font.)     I hope this is in the correct section. Â Hello, I am having trouble printing portals which are in sub-summary fields. I have a contact database where each person input their information in different tables. For example, medicine information, their emergency contacts, their Allergies, their physician information. All in different tables. What I'm trying to do is print it out. The first image attached is what it looks in layout mode, 2nd picture is in browse mode, 3rd is in preview mode(which is how it should look when it prints), 4th picture is how it actually prints.   7. I've been utilising slides and pop-overs for data entry to try a minimise the number of layouts needed. Working lovely so far. I have a 'Company' screen, that upon entering shows a 'view only'. It has buttons for 'Find', 'Edit' and 'New'. Clicking these reveals buttons pertinant to the button clicked. When you cancel find mode, you go back to the record you were previously viewing. These seems to be default behaviour...fine. When you cancel edit, you obviously go back to the record you were previously viewing...fine.   9. Web viewer object uses google maps to display job location, brings up this error and user has to dismiss. I've seen some suggestions about makin it a static map. I have a fairly straightforward company table and a contact table. Related one to many as you'd expect. When browsing a layout based on the companies table, I can see all the related contacts via a portal.     I have moderate understanding of Filemaker, so I apologize in advance, but I'm a quick learner! I have a database with thousands of records. I need to create a layout (though I'm not sure that's the best option) that allows me to choose specific records and insert them based on their unique ID. Ideally I'd like to type the record in and "add" it to this new list. Additionally, I'd love to display them as "boxes" both horizontally and vertically so I can see all of my chosen records at once.   12. We've just completed updating to FM 12 from FM 11. Some of our report layouts have a very tiny subsummary part, so that the client name (which is how the layout is sorted) appears next to the first project, instead of above it. This was just to make our reports fewer pages, as printing a report with every project can be a real tree-eater. I believe I read something about how FM 12 handles this, but I can't find it now, and it looks like if I have a field on a layout which overlaps between two parts - it just doesn't appear at all. I have multiple tables in my database, my main table which holds most of my data, and may other smaller tables that hold various other data and link to the main database such as my smaller To Do List Table. I'd like to show the full record count of the To Do List Table as a (running count/number) on my main database table.   17. I have a portal in my main database that displays records from the table (TDL) with a date and text field. I'm trying to write a script that copies the customer number from the main database, goes to the PLD table, creates new record, pastes the customer number (this is the key field in which my database is kept together) then goes back to the portal row from TDL, copies the text field, goes back to the PLD table and new record just created and pastes the text data into the text field. Currently my calc looks like this (see attached) but I'm not getting accurate copies. 1.tiff

    I compiled a runtime solution with Pro 12 for a mac user and all the fields that have a value list (radio buttons or checkbox set) are not modifiable. However text fields can be edited. On my mac, every things checks ok. Any idea?

    Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to have a list view that fills a column, but when it gets to the end of the window in that column, instead of a scroll bar it populates a second, third, or forth column. If it fills all four columns it would go onto a new page. You would be able to filter the results by last name by clicking a letter at the top. I made a mock up describing what I was hoping for. The first is the main table called Job_Details which includes a field called Client that is a list based on the table Clients.     Re a portal I have set up: in some instances when I click a record in a portal, it resets to the first record in the portal while in other instances, the portal will "stick" on the current portal - which is what I want - and not reset to the first record. Am using Filemaker 12. Anyway to stop the reset? Note: in the portal setup, "Show vertical scroll bar" is selected and "Reset scroll bar when exiting record" is not selected. Any help is appreciated! The basic idea is that we have about 200 products and 700 or so customers. For the 200 products, each customer may pay a slightly different price.   26. I have a buttons that only appear in the Find mode using the hide feature in layout mode. My customer doesn't like that the continue button is in the upper right when the script is paused.   28. Hi!  This is a stupid problem but I just cannot figure out how it works.  I've created a small calendar where each day is shown in it own field. Each month the contents of the fields are calculated and placed to correct field so that if the first day of the month is Monday, it is placed to the first field. If the first day of month is wednesday, it is placed to third field etc. (please see the picture). Each of these boxes are named objects.  Then I defined each "box" as a button which starts a script and copy the date in the field to a variable $date (Set Variable [$date; Value:Get (ActiveFieldContents]). Every year, I need to create new funds and expenses are created (PO, Direct Payment, Credit Card, Travel Expenses, etc) However, PO and Travel Expenses can be split funded by multiple funds.     I am trying to use an interactive container to preview a PDF file, except it is giving the expected result. When I navigate to this layout it opens the PDF in Adobe Reader, rather than previewing it in the container field. I used the Insert PDF function. Previewing of video files works as expected though. The problem i am having is that when i am on that view/layout and click on a button that saves the entire view as a pdf it cuts off most of the layout. Only part of it will fit on an 8.5 X 11. I have to make the print layout be A3 sized and landscape to fit it all in. I can set my print options on my local system and it works fine every time but if someone accessing the file remotely (since it is on filemaker server) tries to print it, it cuts off the layout and they have to change their print settings locally. this is problem because there are potentially 100's of users that will print from this layout and they…

    Hi, I have a need where the list of values in radio button format has text values that exceed approximately half the width of the screen. (I know you may see that as a little silly, but it's part of a questionnaire and the text needs to be what it is.) I want to resize the box so that the lines with the long values wrap around to the next line, but cannot see how it's done - if it's at all possible. Does anybody know how/if it can be done please?     Hi all, I am having trouble with what I assume is a basic portal function, to use it as a button to goto the specific record selected in the portal on a related layout. For example; Student table and classes table Student layout contains the student name and a portal of related classes. When I click on the portal I want the classes layout to be presented displaying the record clicked on in the portal. It does not matter what record I select in the portal, the first matching (student) record is always returned. What am I missing? Thanks!

    I have a table containing the names of about 12 mailing lists (number of lists may change later). I need to allow the user to select which mailing lists are to be used for sending a message, And I'd like to design the layout in such a way that it will automatically adapt when the number of lists change.     I know I've seen it demo'd someplace, but for the life of me I can't recall how to insert an image with a 'watermark' effect -- a pale rendition that can act as wallpaper behind the fields on a layout. Searching for 'Watermark' in the Filemaker Help resource yields nothing . . . . I can't even recall whether you have to use an Image Field (preferable), or whether you do this via "Insert > Picture" as an object on the layout . . .   46. I have been struggling with this one for too long, and I believe that it should be simple, so I'm here to ask for help. I have an Employees table. The user can mark an employee "Inactive" when they are no longer with the company. It's a number field with 0 if they are still employed and 1 when they are no longer employed. I am trying to show only active employees on my drop downs. I can only get it to show ALL employees and I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. The field I want base my calculation on is call Status whose content comes from a radio button set in a layout. The radio button set has three options Outstanding, Won and Lost.     My application generates a report to a new floating document window, enters Preview mode and displays the status bar. The status bar has buttons for navigating through the report, printing, saving to Excel or PDF, etc. All that's just what I need. But below the button the status area includes controls to change the layout, switch the view, or exit preview mode. I don't want any of those capabilities available to the user. How can I eliminate this portion of the status bar? Or is there some other approach I need to take? And, is there a way to add a "close window" button to this status bar?

Ok so I have I am having a problem with my Google maps multiple location map everything works perfectly if I have 10 locations or less, the map appears in my web viewer with the pins but any more then 10 locations and my map wont load, Ive tried multiple different locations and the magic number is 10.     Sorry if this question has been posted, but I can't find the answer. I have a summary report showing a list of vendors, and the amount paid for a defined period of time. We have 2 fields in this report "Vendor" & "Purchased" (summary field) in the report. We didn't purchased anything from some of the vendors, but they still show in the report. I would to only show vendors that have an amount in the "Purchased" field. Thank you.

'tblCompanies' is a straight record of company details (UID = CompanyCode), and 'linkBusinessAreas' is a table containing business area codes stored against CompanyCode as the relational field...so one to many, tblCompanies to linkBusinessAreas.   62. I'm trying implement a feature on a list view using FileMaker Go that works similar to the iOS Mail app. When you swipe to the left, a Delete button shows. It's nothing super fancy, but what I've noticed is that when I swipe, the control slides for all records rather than just the one I want to see the delete button for. Is this normal behavior? A bug? Is there a way to force the slide control to only slide for the active record?

  66. I plan to make extensive use of modal windows in my application. When opening a modal window, I want generally to center it over its parent window. I do that by calculating relative window sizes and positions and then using Move/Resize Window to get it to be the proper shape and size. However, I have a "window flicker" problem--when I first create the window and assign the layout, the window is the same size as the underlying window. I cannot compute the position of the window until after I do a Resize to Fit so that I know the size of the new window. In my database i have a table with the fields entry type, start date and end date These fields are in a portal on the main page and it displays the info perfectly and the way I want it. However, I want to change the colour of some fields based on the Start and End date.     Hi When i get my database to generate a crowd report it seems to make random page breaks, sometimes it will go right down to the bottom, then some times it will leave a massive gap, even though the next dates information will clearly fit on the page. I cannot see that I have set up any accidental page breaks. It seems very random and I have made sure the boxes that don't have information in them auto shrink to fit.   70. Hi, I have researched but did not find, so I would say I am not good at searching.. I have a database with several tables, and each table presented in a Tab. When I have a note I made a new window open with only the note field to be filled. Everything works good but the layout with the tabs returns systematically to the first tab when the note is in the fifth tab for example. I tried to set freeze window in the open script for the note window, but it did not work. What can I do to have the tab return to the original tab I was in when I close the note window.   75. Hi I have a database that was showing a field in the report, but suddenly it will not display it. It has information in the field and it is there in the layout of the report, but will not show up in the report suddenly for some reason. The field that is causing trouble is the one labelled description. I have tried deleting it and reinserting it and still does not work.   76. 2014-06-19 UPDATE --  I made a new blank file in FMP 13, created a sample radio-button field at 9 point and it works fine / normally. I then copy-pasted the field to my current solution in FMP13 & used the style-clone tool.     Can anyone point me towards a more clean solution for sorting and show sort order in a list view? I've been using the technique that is included with many of the older FileMaker free templates. This requires a global field 2 values to hold the icon. A calc field for each column you want to sort like, hilite_Status, hilite_City, hilite_State etc... It also requires 3 scripts for each hilite indicator. (So for the 3 columns hilties i mentioned I'd need 9 separate scripts). I currently have a layout that includes a large Header, Body for line items (list view), Sub-summary for invoice total and notes, and Footer for payment info. This is the first page, and it will always only be one page long. For the second page, I will have a few fields and lots of "small print." It will also always only be one page. I created a layout that has samples of each color that I need to use regular in other layouts, however I'm having a hard time with how to add those back to custom colors each time I log in. I do know about Troi, but I'm hoping maybe there's another way (because I'm making run times), or that Filemaker might expand the set at some point. This works great, except... As the date changes, the value of Status doesn't change, since it's an indexed, stored calc field. If I change Status to an unstored field, then the calculation updates in real time. However, the relationship breaks, since you can't have relationships that terminate on an un-indexed field.   88. In Filemaker 13 I thought there was going to be an easier way to determine screen resolution and automatically resize accordingly. I have layouts that are designed for different resolutions. I suppose I can use a Get function to see what resolution is used on startup & point to a specific layout for that device (i.e. desktop, iPhone, iPad, laptop). I have a Funds table, listing the various pots of money which can be used to purchase a given item. Each fund has a fund_name. There is also a fund_active field indicating whether the fund is still open for use, with values YES/NO. I have a Purchases table. I have a database with a number of layouts. Each has the same logo at top left, a title in caps, and then a 1-pt line box surrounding the fields. For consistency's sake I want all these things in the exact same location on each page. In Layout Mode I have used the Inspector to check the location of all these items (for example, the logo is at 0,0) and they are identical across all layouts.  However, when I'm in regular mode and I click through the layouts, on ONE layout everything is shifted about 2 pts to the right, and there is a tiny gap all down the left side -- see screen caps (hope they're big enough). This gap is NOT visible when I look at it in Layou…

It's built to view in browse mode with multiple options for sorting and grouping. To simplify the question, let's just use the basic scenario of all payments grouped by payment method. So I end up with a grouping of payment types ( check, cash, money order, credit card, etc. ), number of payments and amount.   100. Before FM 13, we have to display close to 100 fields on the layout. With FM 13, we can now 'hide' most of the fields either in Popover or slider. I called this "display-on-demand "..
