I have a value list which is the id of customers and it shows second value of their company name. This all works fine and I sometimes put the value list on a layout as reference showing the name only as pop-up except I turn off entry. This works well in that a relationship is not needed to the parent table from companies. My problem is this I have a table of SALES and in it is the company id and a sales rep id but nothing else in the sales table names it identifiably unique except the date. So I want to display in its second description for the value list, the company name and sales rep name and date. However, all that is IN the Sales table are the company id …

Hi Folks, I'm working at my class assessment database and want to get a filtered value list working. I have a portal that shows all assessments and registers for a class. It's based on a ClassAssessJoin table. The records in the Assess table can either be Grade or Register. I'd like to create a value list that only shows the Grades. I think I should do this by creating a relationship between the Grade/Register field and a preset global Grade/Register field, but can't get it to work. Ideally, later on, I'd also like to filter the list by what year the class is as well, but I'm happy to take one step at a time!! I can't find any relevant posts that are at a…

Hello everyone. I'm coming back to FM after few years I haven't used it so I'm a bit rusty. I have the 3 tables below: System Department Owner Department and Owner have a relation on the name so I have a conditional value list that allows me to filter the possible owners of a system based on the selected department. Now a system can be used in more departments so the System table I have updated the DepartmentName field to accept multiple repetitions (3) and I have updated the layout accordingly to show repetition 1 through 3. Hi, Hopefully I've posted this question in the right place! I'm developing a maintenance database (spares) and have came across an issue regarding data input of items. When a user creates a new record (adding new product) there could be different wording of products entered. For example 'lamp or bulb','box or crate' etc. What I want is to prevent duplicate naming of items. I'm thinking possibly some kind of buffer table that would compare say a unique manufacturers id and/or supplier and validate the item name on entry?, meaning if the manufacturer and ID was the same then there would only be a single possible value to enter. I am happy with being able to create a dynamic list from relationships. What I trying to solve a away to be able to search through (or filter) a Value List of SerialNumbers from a user input of text. Both the search input of text and the calculated value list (calculated SerialNumber field) have a variable number of characters. A user would therefore enter a text string into a field (which can be a related global storage field), then I need the value list to filter based on that string. Hey everyone I am a newbie feeling my way around Filemaker Pro 13. I got a database I am working on and I need some help with something. What I want to be able to do is have a number of check boxes with labels next to them and whenever I put a check in the box it will add digit one to another field on the same layout adding up as each time it's checked. So for example, having students who come and attend a class I want to track how many times they came to class by clicking that checkmark. When clicking on a popup menu in MacOS version, you can type a letter on the keyboard and the list will jump alphabetically to that part of the list; however, this doesn't seem to be working on a Windows workstation. Is this a missing feature, or am I missing a particular configuration?

I compiled a runtime solution with Pro 12 for a mac user and all the fields that have a value list (radio buttons or checkbox set) are not modifiable. However text fields can be edited. On my mac, every things checks ok. Any idea?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to have a list view that fills a column, but when it gets to the end of the window in that column, instead of a scroll bar it populates a second, third, or forth column. If it fills all four columns it would go onto a new page. You would be able to filter the results by last name by clicking a letter at the top. I made a mock up describing what I was hoping for. The first is the main table called Job_Details which includes a field called Client that is a list based on the table Clients. I want to prevent rooms to be double booked. So what I am trying to figure out is how to create a conditional valuelist based on the information in other records. Hi, I have a need where the list of values in radio button format has text values that exceed approximately half the width of the screen. (I know you may see that as a little silly, but it's part of a questionnaire and the text needs to be what it is.) I want to resize the box so that the lines with the long values wrap around to the next line, but cannot see how it's done - if it's at all possible. Does anybody know how/if it can be done please? Have a passenger list and next to their name it has 'adult', 'child' or 'infant' in a drop down list. At the bottom I wish to summarise the booking schedule so the person reading the report can see how many times 'adult' was selected for example. I have a field "Status" = If(EndingDate < Get(CurrentDate); "Expired"; "Current") Then I have a relationship which is set to match "Status = kCurrent" where kCurrent is a calc field "Current". This works great, except... As the date changes, the value of Status doesn't change, since it's an indexed, stored calc field. If I change Status to an unstored field, then the calculation updates in real time. However, the relationship breaks, since you can't have relationships that terminate on an un-indexed field. OK, my last question turned out to have an idiotically simple solution, so I'm hoping this one does too. I have a Funds table, listing the various pots of money which can be used to purchase a given item. Each fund has a fund_name. There is also a fund_active field indicating whether the fund is still open for use, with values YES/NO. I have a Purchases table. When a record is created for a new purchase, one of the fields is "Fund" indicating the fund used to purchase the item. I currently use the Layoutname function to create a list of layouts that I have in a file used for spreadsheets only. This list works great as it allows the user to click on the layout name from the list that they would like to view and the script merely takes them there. Now that the list has grown to a large list, I would really like to be able to filter this list down by one mechanism or another. I have tried limiting the list by the Table that it is associated with but have had no luck. Does anyone have any idea's with this thanks in advance...Chad

I have a field in one table which I would like to auto complete with values from a field in another table. I can see that using a drop-down list will work, but I'd prefer not to ever actually have the drop-down list show. I'm thinking I could use a script trigger so that whenever the user enters that field, a mouse click is performed in that field to make the drop-down go away. Is that possible? I have a conditional value list as on my attached picture, which is very simple and shows a company and their products. I pick a company and the next field shows the products for that company. This works well. Companies table holds the company name and the products, order table displays the company name and lets you select the product.(Item). I need to display another company and product on the same layout so i have Company Product Company 2 Product 2 The all must work of the same companies table so i can display 2 separate companies and products on the same layout. Hey Guys, I've using a checkbox set to assign people to an event, but the checkbox set is displaying Full Names and actually storing contactIDs. What calculation would I need to display these full names separated by commas ? I'm currently using Substitute ( id_contact ; ¶ ; ", " ) which gives me "C004, C007, C0991 etc..." what I'd really like is to be able to instead have "Name1, Name2, Name3..." I'm using Fm13 Advanced. My solution has a form view of products. The form view has three additional fields that I use to flag products as I scroll through them. Each of these flags is a Yes/No, and each has an accompanying field that is used to indicate the customer number/order number. I cannot figure out, though, how to create a list that would be automatically updated each time I flagged a record- and have the list on the form view. Hi, i have a survey database used to collect client personal data including post codes in UK (United Kingdom). It appears that almost 50% of the time people are getting these postcodes wrong and return invalid data, so they need to be validated somehow. British Royal Mail issues a data file with over 26 000 000 existing postcodes in UK and i need to validate the postcode field against these 26 000 000 existing records, each time it is populated. I.e. This is driving me completely crazy. This must be so simple. I have a filtered value list in my hosted database that does not work until I go to the related layout and come back. I tried to replicate the behavior by creating the following simple database that is a simplified version of my hosted db. Job1Only field is a global calculated field that is equal to 1. I just got our server and I thought this was supported to work and it does not. I do not know if it is me or the server. Well probably not but it did not do what I expected so I would like to mention it. I have a script which counts the values in a value list and acts accordingly. It is based on 'all values in field'. It recently broke saying there were less values than there were and all I had done was change the sort order of the value list. Please see attached. First button was my original. We did not use this value list for data-entry, only to get the count of all products for my script. Alternate code is not required. But then another situation wanted only the alternate codes to display for selection in another layout and I thought, perfect, I already have just the thing. …

Is it possible to create a value list that consists of the contents of five different fields? I have one table that is called WORKERS. The table consists of five global text fields: Worker 1 Worker 2 Worker 3 Worker 4 Worker 5 I would like to format this value list as a checkbox. Attached is my current setup, structurally correct thanks to Comment. I have reviewed many posts and I cannot find one similar to this need. I have two fields where, if I select one field, I want the other to filter down to only the associated values whereas if I select the other one, I want the first to filter down. Maybe I am approaching this improperly. When we create a Transaction, the person may only know the Unit. I would like only People associated to appear. I have a list of Dogs - each dog has one vet; but each vet could be attached to many different dogs. So I have a join table between the two so that: Dog - dog vet - VetClinic. In the dogs layout for entering I have a portal that should allow the person to pull down a list of vet clinics to choose which one their dog goes to. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I cannot find the answer to this. I'm not a programmer, but I had a very little experience with python, and I used to use list variables. How do I use them on FileMaker Pro? I would really love to set a list and be able to retrieve the last value, the first, the third, etc. I remember in python it was as easy as ListName[numberofitem], and I could even use ListName[-numberoftheitembackwards] Am I missing something obvious? I'm looking to find out if it is possible to filter a value list based on the users privilege set, or perhaps something similar such as an administrator using checkboxes to define what values are available. One of the features that are in FMP13 is a new option for a summary field that will gather the records into a list ( List Of ). Though it isn't exactly a calculation or function that we were looking for, it is great that we finally get something that has been needed for a while. What are the concepts to begin understanding to not ever let a field be empty or not one of you possible values you want? For instance: Cat or Dog for the purpose of what you are doing are all you need to receive as data You also never want it to be “”, NULL, FALSE, 0, or Empty (so something like 1 could do) I have started understanding about Auto Enter but this is more of a Validation Issue correct? Hi, I have a file table that has many Forms. Each form has it's own layout. How can I provide a field my users can click into, list the layout names that I need ( only the Form Layouts ), and have the user select whichever form layout they wanted based on the drop down list. Value List doesn't work to the best of my understanding. And the other alternative is to create a new table just for layout names. Hello, I've read through posts regarding what seem like similar situations, but I am afraid I just can't wrap my brain around the examples. I need to track errors for employees. I need to make the database as easy as possible for the managers to use, otherwise they won't use it. The first field would be the manager selecting their own initials from a simple value list. I have a drop down field in a portal with a value list attached, the value list is a number of different written functions, for example "Set Priority", "Set Normal" , "Delete"... there is a script trigger set to 'OnObjectModify'. Hi, I need the value list number, not the "Value" base on "A" number. So, lets say I have a value list relationship of ID's ... 345 567 678 786 799 801 Value 799 is number "5" in the list. I have a check box that displays two values from a value list. I want to make it impossible for the user to select both check boxes, and required to select one. I don't know if this will cause a problem later, but in another table, I will be reusing the same value list as the source for a check box and will need the option to select both in that record. Hi  I'm trying to solve a problem regarding excluding certain records from showing in a drop down list. I'm pulling my hair out over this one. I know I've seen the answer to this one somewhere, but no amount of googling seems to be helping me find it again. I've created a value list that uses values from a "Drivers" table. The first field value is the DriverID, and the second is Full_Name. When I select to sort values using the Second Field, the value list shows only the first record from the Drivers table.

Hey everyone. I hope this is the right place for my questions. I've recently upgraded from Bento as there's a lot more I wanted to do with my database. Now, knowing what I want to do and being able to do it are two completely different things! So, I have a small (c.1,000 entries) database for my video game collection. It's flat file and contains all my hardware and software. I use forms which only display the relevant information for each item (info for hardware is dramatically different for software) so while I know there will be some data redundancy I don't think it's too big a deal on such a small database. I am trying to create a filtered value list based on a property from a related table. The first table is Products. The second table is Customers. I want a value list on the customers layout that shows only the products associated with that customer's SIC Code. There is a field in the customers table that lists their SIC code. I have a pop-up menu that displays standard ad sizes for specific publications. "Allow Entry of Other Values" is activated so that users can put in a special size when appropriate. If someone puts in an "Other" value all is fine. However it seems that this disables the value list for that record. i.e. if someone enters an "Other"value and then changes their mind and wants to use one of the standard ad sizes from the value list, it can't be done except by typing the name in the "Other" dialogue box. Hi All - Up until FMPro12v3, I used a little trick in order to create a custom sort order in value lists that were derived from field values... I would define two fields in the table in which the field values lived....one for entering a number(Position) and one calculation field(SortBy) that stores a quantity of space characters equal to the number entered in the Position field. So, if the number 5 was entered in the Position field, 5 spaces were in the SortBy field. Hi folks, I'm a filemaker newbie doing my best to develop a personal rental property management database. I have quite a good understanding how conditional pop-up menu menus work after watching several tutorials online. However I'm unable to figure out the task at hand. I'm looking to the following. In the tenants layout I choose an apartment number (via a pop-up menu through the relationship with the apartments table) that the tenant wishes to rent. OK. I have two files one with GUI and one with the data. Now I want to make value lists but both files seem to be able to create the same value list in their own file using the table occurrence there but also can create a value list from the other file. Is it better to create the value list in the data file since it is closest to the real data? Or is it better to create the value list in file my people will work in, the UI since that is closes to them? I have a value list of the type "Use values from field" and "Use all values". A second field is shown (same table). When I change the record "view" access to "Limited" for the user's privilege set, that user is no longer able to use the value list, even if they have view privileges for all of the records in the table! The way I am doing it is that I have a value selected from a list via a field in the parent table, and then have the pk corresponding to it in the parent table looked up and auto entered in the fk field of the child table. My boss asked me to make conditional list fields for a portal, that when I choose a value in a field, I can choose its own options in the other field. For example: There are too many products, with diferent suppliers. What I want is to can choose a supplier in the "supplier" field in a portal row, to then choose in the "product" field all the products that sells the specific supplier. I still don't have acces to the DB to view the tables.

Hi! I have two tables: Client and Contacts. The client table has a Portal that contains a list of Contacts (Emloyees, Contactors, Consultants) What I am attemping to do is one of two things: 1. Create a Value List from the Portal so I can choose one of the Contacts who is the Key Contact for that Client, or 2. Create a Conditional Value List that will list the Contacts related to that Client. For information I have a pop-up menu on my Contacts layout where you choose which client that Contact is related to. I have tried several things, I believe I must be messing upthe relationships. I need some theoretical and logistical help: My solution is a checkout system which involves penalties when an item is late. The problem is that two parts of the campus (luckily each running their own solution) want to impose penalties differently. I have a large database with a multitude of fields where a value list via drop down is associated. However, when we set out to develop this, we didn't know what many of the values in these lists would be comprised of, so we didn't have any strict validation in place. Users were allowed to edit the very basic lists we came up with and we didn't have validation on any of the fields. Hi, I created a dynamic value list to class my contacts. I can add per contact a parent and a child classification (I call this a group) This classification is added in a portal, so I can choose more than one group per contact. The dynamic value list: first parent and than the children due to the choosen parent work fine. But only in browe mode. It won't work in find mode. Hi, This might be a silly question but I've looked high and low and can't seem to figure it out. I have a text field that gets its value from a value list via a drop down box. In Browse mode, when the user chooses a value it automatically tabs to the next field. However, I want it to stay on the field until the user chooses another.
