FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad

I'm looking for a way for FM Go to send messages to a mac. I have a database file on an ipad (local, not networked). I'd like to 'control' a mac on the network in some way by sending commands to the mac. My thought was to use applescript but I understand that FM Go does not support applescript. Any suggestions? OSC, or MIDI? Has anyone tried anything?

Hi all! Does anyone know if it's possible to script the opening of a PDF stored in a container field in FileMaker Go 13? I've tried a couple of different techniques such as Go To Field with Select/Perform selected. I have not been able to get the PDF open without tapping the container field and selecting "View". I would rather the user not have to do that. Ideally, I'd like to have the user click a button that runs a script that opens the pdf so that I don't have to show the container field to the user.

Hi everyone, on a file accessed via filemaker Go 17, I am using a scripted navigation to move records up and down in a portal that is inside a popover. This has worked in filemaker 12 like a charm and also works on a filemaker client. The records smoothly move up and down the list. However in Filemaker Go, the portal follows every move of the script as if it is not aware of the freeze portal. The solution is hosted on FM Cloud (AWS) and runs well on my Mac workstation, but experiences a few issues when running on the iPad. I'm also experiencing the same problem when I host it from a local Windows Server 2012 box. Using RESTful APIs (with BaseElements plugin) on my Mac workstation and I am downloading product data from a host, manipulating the data, then uploading it back to the host. I am trying to figure out a convenient way to send a Filemaker file to a friend's iPad with minimum fuss. This person does not use his iPad for email. I see I can send such a file via iMessage, just as I would a photograph. What I'm not seeing is how to get the file from the iPad Message app into FilemakerGo. When I send the file, I see it there in the iMessage window, but the only option seems to be 'Copy' -- is there a way to "paste" the file into FilemakerGo? Having received the file in Messages, is there a place where the file "lives" on the iPad -- and where I could move it over into Go? I'm hoping there's a way I can do this without asking the …

I've just upgraded to Filemaker Pro 17 and Filemaker Go 17. Unfortunately I now get 'The Host's Capacity Was Exceeded' error message (attached) when trying to open a file on my iPad that is hosted on my MacBook. I'm the only user of this file, so it seems strange and I've never had the error with previous Filemaker versions. Has anyone any ideas please? Edited to add that the file opens with Filemaker Go 17 when it is open on the MacBook with Filemaker Pro 16, therefore could this be a bug in Filemaker Pro 17?

I’m trying to retrieve a street address after I’ve used the ‘location’ function to access the gps coordinates. This may be simple but all I’m stumped. Maybe there’s a beginners tutorial on how to use url’s To get what I need.

I'm using FileMaker 12 but want to get a version that syncs via free iCloud or Dropbox type service (you can only do it manually in FM12). What is the earliest version that does this? Its for personal use and I don't have much money so I just want to get a cheap older version of FM but want it to sync across all my devices.

If I use Filemaker Go 16 to "insert from device" a photo from the photo roll into a container field, the photo shows up fine on the iphone. On the desktop version it shows up as an icon (file), not the photo. If I export the file it cannot be opened by either windows or osx. This only seems to happen to photos taken by the phone. If I take a screenshot on the phone and save it to photos and "insert to device from photo roll" it works fine. Filemaker server, desktop on mac and windows and go are all up to date.

FM go 17 does not see any files running on FM Cloud 17/AWS even though said files are running, an authenticated user is accessing the files via FM17 and WebDirect works without issue. Any help on this would be terrific as FM Cloud 17 is running, thank god, without problems.

Filemaker clients can access remote files but FileMaker go cannot. These setups previously worked. What can be blocking fm go?

I currently have a button that exports the current record in excel format on my Mac desktop. When I use Filemaker go on my iPad this button does nothing. I designed a FM Go app that uses a bluetooth scanner (Socket CHS 7). I can't find the way to control the active keyboard (scanner or ios). I tried the "Enable touch keyboard" script step but if I hide the keyboard, I loose the focus on the field that must get the scanned code, so it's like having no keyboard. I’m not sure if this isn’t possible yet or if I’m missing something obvious, but… When I tap in a container field in FMGo, I get an Import dialog that allows me to import from Camera, Audio, etc.. However, the Insert from Device script step requires me to select an option. It’s not like many other script steps, where you can just not specify a source and FM is smart enough to prompt you. Is there any way to script entering a container field such that the Import menu pops up? Thanks!

I have created a nifty little FM Go solution for quizzing myself on backgammon problems that I think others in the backgammon community might find very useful. Since I don't really anticipate it being a big money-maker, it's not worth it to me to try to do an elaborate purchase/licensing/subscription/encryption process for "selling" the solution to players. Afternoon all, We have a solution that runs locally on several iPads and have been experiencing slow down issues which I'm trying to resolve. During the data gathering process the users create around 120 text based records and 60 photographic records. During the process of collecting this information, the solution slows down gradually until FMGO finally crashes. I've found that if a user exits the application and closes it fully (double tapping home button and swiping up) intermittently, it prevents the slow down and crash from happening. Hello, So we VPN in to our office network and then connect to our FM16 Server with either our laptops (Filemaker 16) or FM Go (16.0.4) One of our users can get as far as loading the two database icons from the server but when trying to open the file getting timed out connections. Even when connecting to the internet via a WiFi connection. At the same time, his laptop will connect. Looking in the logs on the server - there's no sign of the FMGo connection. Looking at VPN logs (although we know he's connecting) shows a normal connection into our network. Is there any other source of information that might illuminate the problem? Thanks

A panel with a portal is underneath a different slider and the top slider is not hidden with "Hide Object When" feature 3. We need to run a FMpro Go 24x7 on iPad, connected to FMserver. Let's say the screen shows sign in / sing out information of employees. What happens no, that after a certain period of time, the fmpro go clients get disconnected "Host is not longer responding, do you want to reconnect?" Server (FMS 16) is up, energy saver settings all set to 24x7 running, fmreauthenticate set to 0. Anyone can assist is having the go client running 24x7 even if there is no interactivity at the iPad?

Hi there, I have a strange issue with a web viewer in FMGO. I'm using one script to open a new windows, that displays a web viewer and Pass a URL. In FM pro 14 the script works as expected and I see the page I want to view in the web viewer. However, when we rung the exact same script in FMGO, a new window opens, the web viewer is visible but empty - no web page in the viewer. Has anyone had an issue like this before or could you suggest where I might look to resolve this issue? Mark

I THINK I may have stumbled onto a bug in how Filemaker Go handles imports of records from another filemaker database. When importing records from another database, the manual states that if you import from a closed file, it will import all records from the specified table (ie, with a closed file there's no found set hence all records are imported). This is what I want, and how it works on the desktop (Windows in my case). I am importing data from an older version file (same data structure) into a new version. Works fine on FM Pro. Hoping someone might have an idea what's happening and how to fix this. I'm developing an iPad app (FMGo16 on iOS 10.3.3) that accesses parts of a larger DB remotely. This app has an offline part which has a slideshow and gallery. The offline app acts as a portal to the hosted app (FMS16.0.1.184 on Win2k8R2). The offline app connects to the hosted app by invoking a FMP URL. This generally works well. Sometimes though, when the iPad has trouble connecting to the hosted DB (sometimes when I'm updating schema, layouts or scripts), the iPad will twirl, and eventually time out. I generally take a quick photo of the scene, but i'd also like to be able to draw basic diagrams as well eg. position of camera in relation to actors, set, props, etc. While I await delivery of a new iPad, i'd love to hear thoughts on how i could best go about drawing and saving simple diagrams into my database. I’m running my FM database on a laptop with FMP. I sometimes connect with an iPad or another laptop using FM Go or FMP. I take it to a few different locations. The host laptop gets a different ip address each time I arrive in a new location and connect to a different network. I see that I can also connect with the COMPUTERNAME or COMPUTERNAME.local in place of the ip address. So I’m thinking this is the way to solve the problem of the changing ip address. Is there any problem or drawback with using the COMPUTERNAME or COMPUTERNAME.local on a local network in place of the ip address? Does that change if hosted with FMS?

I am trying to change the way we do inventory at my company. I need to have a scanner connected to FMGO, that we can scan and then move numbers up and down, or set a variable in the data. How do I make it search? Scan WP310 > Bring up one items with unique identifier > Change STOCK Amount > Save. I know with the app you can scan when looking at a certain field, but how can I make this all automatic?

I tried to import a complete FM12 database into FM Go 16 via Dropbox but it didn't really work. Its an image storage database made for a 20" mac. It contains about 1000 files at 300MB and initially it just didn't transfer so I cut it down to just a few files to see if that was the issue, it transferred but then it wouldn't load anything like the original. It just created its own basic interface and displayed some random non-image text fields. FM Go is a strange beast that's barely documented but can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on here? Are there limitations I'm unaware of?

Is it possible to export a container field's PDF and automatically copy it to another app on ios to edit it? My main goal is to annotate a pdf and bring it back in to FM Go (As FM Go does not support annotating natively).

Hi Folks, I'm having some difficulty getting external data sources to work on FMGO (v16). MyApp consists out of two parts (its basically data separation), one app has the brains and UI, the other only holds the data. In my case the data is just imagery. MyApp is a slide show and a gallery to show customers samples. The iPads that MyApp will run on are used in the field and rarely get back to head office. They will have an internet connection but as images are not often updated, I wanted to separate UI and and data so that if the UI side of it needs an update, it's only an 800KB file, not a 100MB file (400 something images). I'm trying to move an old database over to iOS with Filemaker Go, but have run in to a couple of problems. Everything functions for the most part, except there are some scripts that export records to a tab delimited file, then later re-import that data. On the iPad the script always fails saying that the file could not be created. The files on my Mac were set to export to a folder conveniently labeled "Import/Export" but with iOS you don't get access to the file system. Is there a work-around for this? Hi all, Is there any way of sending and receiving message on iPhone using the iPhone Messaging app and have the conversation recorded in FM GO? I know that we can use "open url" to set messaging variables and pass it to messaging app, but this way we can not record the SMS conversation in FM go any more. I made a FileMaker Go 13 solution and made a custom icon for it on the home screen using the iPhone Config Utility. The app and the link all work just fine. But since the icon is basically an URL, it goes through Safari. When clicked, Safari sees the file extension and opens the file in FileMaker Go. But it does this only once automatically, after one click the link is set as browser history. So the next time you click the app icon, Safari asks to 'Open this page in "FileMaker Go"?' with 'Cancel' and 'Open' as clickable options. Very annoying. If you clear Safari's browser history in 'Settings', it opens again in a single run. But right thereafter you get the message agai…

Greets, all: I have a two-part question: Currently, when a user opens a URL in FM-GO, it's a two-step process for them to get to Safari so they have access to the slider in the iPad that splits the screen into halves or 1/4-width. A better solution would be to use the Web Viewer in the existing tab panel on the layout but there's doesn't seem to be much functionality to it--it's _very_ basic; I need it to do everything that you can do with/in Safari. I am posting my database to Filemaker cloud. I have tested my solution on FM Go 16 without issue and wanted to begin to test on Web Direct. After configuring the file in FileMaker Advanced for Web Direct and testing successfully on my Mac, the file is no longer available in FM Go 16. Should you be able to run a file over Filemaker cloud and access via FM Go or Web Direct as the user chooses, or is it one or the other?

Seems like FM16 (both fat clients and Go clients) are unable to handle container audio content that has been inserted with the "Insert Audio/Video" script step. Previously in FM15 I was able to get create interactive audio containers that would give me the playback controls on data that was inserted with the "Insert Audio/Video" script step but now, the player controls are present but the audio no longer plays (no error in the fat clients - just click play and the play bar blinks to the end of the line and nothing). Go clients are the same. I can tap the container and be prompted for playback but it errors out with "Cannot access the media". I can export the container…

Is there a way in FileMaker Go to bypass the auto-capitalization of fields if that function is enabled on an iPad? (On an iPad, it's found at Settings > General > Keyboard > Hardware > Keyboard > Auto-Capitalization.) I have tons of fields in my FM Go solution and have created scripts for the Replace and Substitute commands, but if auto-capitalization is enabled then a user can't insert a lower-case letter at the beginning of a field if, say, they want to replace bat with cat. The Replace Field Conents script step is limited in FMP GO in that the "Perform with Dialog" function is disabled, so how can a user replace the field contents of a field without having access to it? Also, is there a script step in FMP GO I can use that will "click" the round icon in the bottom-center of the screen ("the cockpit of a TIE Fighter") to bring up the record counter? I am using Filemaker pro for a small simple app on iPhone in Filemaker go. After entering the data into the app, the user can select Export from the FM Go app and selects CSV as the file format to be emailed. The problem I have is that the CSV file received as an attachment does not have column Headers and the column order has changed from the order the a data was imput making it complicated for the recipient. I am relatively new to FM Pro and FM Go. I can find some threads on the Web about column headings but cannot find how to order the columns Any assistance is appreciated. RSlater

We are having an issue with the ipad occasionally getting a 'host not found'. The 'external data sources' have the proper IP address of the host computer, but even with the ipad right next to it, the 'host not found' message occurs. Is there a way to make a hard connection between the ipad and the host for filemaker-sharing?

Hi I updated my solution to FileMaker Pro 16 and FileMaker Go 16 and after that the script step Insert from Device (Type:Camera). Now FileMaker Go comes with the screeen "Files on iPad" and "No files available". When I press cancel the script continues and opens the camera. This does not happen in FileMaker 13 and 14. Other thing that I noticed is that the Go To Portal Row > By calculation does not work as it does in FileMaker 13-14. Frustrating. Any workaround? I have a nifty little backgammon quizzing solution set up for FMGo that shows images of game positions and you tap on the image container to view the solution below. This works by toggling a simple text field from empty to 'Show' when you tap the Problem image. I've used the calculation IsEmpty ( Positions::z_SolutionToggle ) in the 'Hide Object When' option in the inspector for three items on the layout: A Text Field giving the simple answer, a Container Field with a picture of the proper solution, and a Web Viewer for displaying comments about the proper play. Hi folks, I have a solution running on iPad which allows the user to enter custom values in a number of different fields. The values also form the label of it's corresponding button in a given layout. Because of the button size, I need to limit the number of characters that can be entered. What I want to achieve is when the user goes to a 'customise button label' layout where they can enter the value to be displayed on the button, a counter resides next to that field that shows a 'real-time' character count as they type a value in, to help them know when they've reached the limit. I'm having issues with FM Go 15 crashing when I try to enter data into a portal. It closes FM Go and does not save any data that has been entered that day. There is no pattern to it and sometimes it does not do it at all. I've tried deleting the app and reloading as well recreating my FM Go file, but still no luck. Has anyone had similar issues?

I have been using FM Go on iPads for a few years for gathering field data for wildlife research. We collect genetic samples and they are enclosed in an envelope that contains a barcode for easy entry. It has worked perfectly until I updated to iOS 10 and FM Go 15. The barcodes are type codabar. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've made an iPad solution for quizzing myself on backgammon positions There's a Container Field that displays a game problem. When you tap on the image, a text field with commentary and a second image showing the proper play appears below the image. I've done this by grouping the text (it's merge field text) with the image as a single Object, which is set to "Hide When" a simple toggle field has a value of 1. (When a record is loaded, the toggle is set to 0 -- tapping the image resets that field to 1). This all works fine. Hi All. I'm trying to understand how this works in my environment. We have Filemaker 13 Server, with FM Pro and FM Pro Adv clients. We are in a Windows Server 2012 Domain. So if I get an Ipad and connect it to the network, then download and install FM go, how does it connect to the FM server? will there be a problem with the Domain? The Ipad doesn't join the domain. I have used Barcode basics for a really long time now and its worked great. However it doesn't seem to work in FMgo has anyone else figured out how to get it to work. It isn't like FMGo is substituting a font as its just Helvetica and that is an iOS default font... Any help would be great.

Hello. Here I come with yet another question. I am making a solution that I am gonna use on my Ipad. I have a script that adds a new record in the portal, by grabbing the ID from the table the portal is on and then going to the related table and adding the data to a new row there. That works fine, except for one issue. The Ipad screen flickers, even if I use the "Freeze Window" script step. It does not flicker on my PC. I have taken a screenshot showing the whole script, note that soame of the table names are in Swedish. Every Google Link says that all you have to do is place the container field on the layout …. yet when I do it … I can not get the signature pop up to pop up?? I have a container fields that is on a layout that I navigate to on the iPad mini. I have an instillation running FMS v12. There are existing iPhone clients but I now want to add some new iPhone users. The App Store only offers v14 and v15 of FMGo. How can I install an older version of FMGo so that they can access FMS12?

Anyone know if other features may be included in the Insert from Device script step in future releases of FMP and supported by FMGo so that other sensors could be interrogated, for example the barometer on iPhone 6/7/6+/7+? When I share my files to client FM Go 15 iPhone on my home wifi network, it works fine. At work I'm allowed to access a limited "staff" authorized wifi, where the file share does not seem to work. Even when I repeat the process (File/Sharing/Share with Filemaker clients) while on the work wifi, my FM Go does note recognize the host. I do not have any access to the wifi here at work, beyond receiving the signal. They use a third party admin and have no idea what could be done without engaging with and therefore paying for the troubleshoot call... Thanks for any help.

I have a file that was originally created in FM 6...it was then modified in FM 9, and is now running under FM 11 Advanced. This file always carys the .fp7 extension. My users all have FM 11. I have installed Filemaker Go on their iPads, and want to have them access the file using Dropbox and Filemaker Go. My problem is that Filemaker Go will not recognize the .fp7 extension. I tried just changing the extension to .fp12, but that does not work. How can I get the extension to change?

This is only my second question (in five years!). Forgive and redirect me if this is the wrong forum. I have a single-table database (fmp12 file) in FM13. It is regularly emailed to an iPad (which has FMGO). All works well. When I try to email the fmp12 file using "Save/Send" from the iPad, the only active choice is "Snapshot LInk." The choice "Database" is grayed out. How can I get the iPad version of the file back to the desktop (preferably using email)? Why is "Database" grayed out? Thanks!

Hi Im looking at introducing QR codes to the demo Inventory database supplied with Filemaker Pro 15. This will enable me to generate a code per item/record. I will then print off the code to a DYMO label and stick it to the actual stock item. I then would like to be able to have employees scan a code every time they use one of the products so that Filemaker then reduces the stock level by 1. Hello, I'm running FileMaker Go 15 on iPhone 6 (iOS 9.3.2). I had this same issue on FMGo 14 before I upgraded. When I click Create New Find and enter find mode, I enter data into the fields I'd like to search, but the "Search" button in the top right corner is grayed out/unavailable and clicking "Done" or "Go" in the native keyboard doesn't perform the find. I've attached an image in find mode so you can see what I'm talking about. I even have admin privileges and it doesn't work. The Quick Find search seems to be the only thing working. I use FileMaker Go for work to get information from users for a liability waiver and have to use the export function to get all of the contents from the iPad onto an excel file. This function has always worked just fine for me. But lately, when I export to excel via email, there is only one single line of field contents, when I would expect over 100 or so submitted lines. Basically, the exported file is not the entire contents in the field. I am unable to get all of the contents in the current record or the found set to export. If anyone has experienced this or knows a fix, I would greatly appreciate the help!

Is it usual for FM Go to ask for a username (admin is suffice), when accessing a hosted file where the file doesn't have a username or password set? Not a big deal but just wondered why it asks for credentials.

I developed a solution which utilises the barcode reader function. This worked perfectly in FMGo 14 on an iPhone 6 Plus. I upgraded to FMGo 15 but at the same time made a few programming changes, although not to the script containing the 'Insert from Device function'. On activating the script, the camera would activate and the barcode would be read successfully but, on a later occasion, the camera would activate, but not trigger on the same barcode as before and the camera would remain in scan mode unless cancelled. Hi, I need a small help. I developed a solution which is running on Filemaker Pro 14 on Mac plateform with dropbox configured. Lets call it "A". It exports one table data to Dropbox as filemaker file, lets call it B. (It is working fine) I do have another file in same drop box account which is accessible on Filemaker Go which we can call it C. File "B" is already in Dropbox because we already exported from "A". i've developed a solution for iphone and get unpredictable, unreproducable corruption warnings from FMGO/Mobile file. It's deployed on iPhones and uses FMGO 14. The solution uses GoZync to move data from the phone to the server. The solution does not delete any records on the phone so compaction on file close by iOS is not an issue. i have run recover on the mobile file and their is no evidence of corruption in the recover log. I have hosted the mobile file from server 13 and the file passes verification. I have saved the file as clone and still get the warnings. Anybody know how to blend the webviewer scroll bar in FileMaker Go 15? The scroll bars take up around 18 pixels. So, blending them with the background gives an 18 pixel border on the right and bottom of the web viewer. This should make a nice scrolling on any content in web viewer. Thanks in advanced

Every so often I find after creating a search request the actual search confirm button is not highlighted and I can't perform the search. Has any seen this before? Happens in both v14 and 15. Sometime the search function works after a relaunch of the file.

I have developed a solution for IOS devices which also utilizes scripts that facilitate importing of GPS coordinates and especially photos from the device, i.e. iPhone or iPad, within FMGo. Although I have scripted the possibility of emailing images originally captured by the solution outside of the solution, there does not seem to be a possibility for exporting the captured image to the Photos app and thus pushing them to the iCloud. In case the answer to that question is yes, do I need two licenses? My current scenario is that I have a desktop pc, that I would use it as a Host and my laptop that may be used as a client. My question is, if for example, he has no Wifi/3G. How does he go about "syncing" or "uploading" the new data he has collected offline, to the database on the network in the office?
