Hi I have a report that has two sub summaries, so it is first sorted by date, then within that date it is sorted by unit. When I only have one sub summary it (the date one) the sub summary part is always the correct height (seen when clicking on the crowd report button, however when I put in a second sub summary so it sorts the units within those dates it can then randomly do different heights for the date part. (seen clicking on the crowd report with units split button) I need to have it so it doesn't do this... some pages it makes it 3/4 of the page, others half a page, others it does it normally. Hi, I was wondering if it is possible with FileMaker Pro Adnvanced (12 my version) to create a layout containing a list and a card (details view displaying a whole record) in the same layout, i.e.: - on the left side, see a list of all records (and a scrollbar maybe) - if I click on a line, in the right column, a details view is shown to edit the details. It does not work with the referenced records tool - they are not records from other tables, but the same table. (and sorry for maybe some odd words - I have the German version and I am not sure about the correct English ones) Does that work? Many thanks for your help, Claus

Is it possible to remove the filemaker name? Client want to remove the filemaker name and replace with the solution name instead. for instance; the filemaker pro at the top, he want to change to corp point of sale and the filemaker name in dialog boxes he want to replace with the solution name also. I have a solution with a text field that has a varying amount of text stored in it for each record. I am working on a print layout using two columns to print the records found set of this text field. As it is currently designed, if the text in the last record in a column is too long to be displayed in the column, it gets chopped versus wrapping. I have found multiple postings regarding this topic from 2008-2009 time frame, but don't see anything current. If I compiled the information into a variable and then split it up based on a character count, would that work or does anyone have suggestions on how to print multiple column layouts for large text blocks across …

I've searched through some other posts about this and it seems to be a Windows problem. We're using Filemaker Pro 14 and I didn't have this problem when I was on Windows 7, it only started after upgrading to Windows 10. *shrugs* Anyways, the scrolling through records is beyond annoying. We keep up with our customers purchase history in this program so the pages can tend to be long and we need the vertical scrolling (not scrolling through records.) The only thing I've seen in the other posts is using a program called KatMouse. I downloaded that, but I can't figure out how to get it to scroll vertical in filemaker (it still scrolls through the records). …

I need to have a solution to update my inventory list. In my example I have a table to produce with four legs and one table surface. When 100 tables are produced on day one it means 400 table legs and 100 table surfaces are used. I know I can add also new transactions in the transaction table but then it means the actual stock amount might not be always up to date when users forget to update the Amount_out in the transaction lineitems. I’ve got a bit of an analysis task coming up over the next few weeks. The idea is that we’re going to be sifting through a database of orders, and essentially tagging each order with assorted variables. At the moment what we have is a fairly basic invoicing system, there’s a table of orders and a related table of line items for each order. The plan is that we’d add field(s) to the Order table for the variables we want to track, and then it’ll be a process of manually reviewing each order. How can I set and change the font of a merge field that will appear in a mail merge letter? Especially when it is a different font from the font as used in other layouts? Hello, Currently customizing a FM 14 invoice starter solution; I've added a new field "service fee" to the invoice details layout- when FM is in layout mode it shows properly aligned i.e. where I want it. However, when switched to browse mode it does not (shows to the very left of the "service fee" field label- you can see the tail end of data entry in the field "00" on the very left.. I've tried moving the field to reflect properly when in browse mode to no avail. Any thoughts on what might be causing this odd behaviour? Please see attached. TIA. Jack

I do not know what to call the tab which reads BODY or HEADER. Sometimes it appears to the left and sometimes on the bottom of a layout but if I have a field label in a report and that tab is at the bottom so I can not move the label to even select it. Do people know what I am talking about? Also that tab changes the width of the layout and it is confusing. I want to set it to default stay in one place which is on the left. If you need I can provide picture of it. What is it called and where can I read about it in help and how can I set it stay on the left please. I thought it was called tab control but that is not it either.

I'm trying to setup users of RTL (Right-To-Left) alphabets such as Hebrew and Arabic to use a database the same way as current users. Current users are worldwide, using Roman, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean alphabets, and more. All those alphabets are LTR (Left-To-Right) reading and they all display and perform properly using the Arial Unicode font. I have a layout in my database thats basically a table of all of our records. Multiple users view this table then select a record to go into the actual record itself to work on it. The problem I'm having is when someone else is viewing this table and i enter the same table layout I get the (User is modifying this record) is there a setting I'm missing or anyone have thoughts on why this is happening? I've spent most of the day trying to figure this out so I'm asking for help. I'm trying to make a home budget solution. I've got multiple categories (e.g., food, gas, electricity, etc.) I've got it set up so that when I want to add a record, it's linked to a separate table to enter that subject's date and total spent. Those two fields show up in that category's layout in a Portal from the Payment table. So far so good. What I'm also trying to do is to have a running total of how much has been spent in each category. What I'm getting is the total in all categories. Hi, I am now setting up a inventory database, I encounter one problem.. some of the products I have to record with long description and some items simply with a few words as description.. This is easy to handle in the per record browse mode, I can simply make a large description field that can hold up more words.. Now I need to to have all these item to be put in the portal as one item one single row, for items with long descriptions, the row is not long/large enough to show all the description information, if I make the row size larger then I will have too much unused space for those item with a few words description.. I've got a Subsummary layout. The layout is based upon the table, lets call it "Materials". The subsummary part is sorted-by the field "Type". Type can have say, one of three possible values in it: Glass, Paper, Plastic. When we sort this layout, we get subsummaries by the types, Glass, Paper, and Plastic, as expected. There's a script that performs some Finds, based on user-entered criteria, to narrow down that list. What I need to do now is have a script gather the IDs of only the records under, say, Paper. We are developing a contract layout for a client. There is a modestly long header (260 its.), short body (26pts), but a very long footer that is one large text box detailing terms and conditions. Its boiler plate but they need it there. Since it is one large block it won't print on the first page. Instead in preview mode the bottom half of the page, below the body, is blank and the boiler plate starts on a second page. Is there a way to have this last large text block start on the first page and spill over onto a second page? How can I get this to format correctly as one cohesive document?

I would like to have the font size of a text field grow or shrink, based upon the number of characters or overall length of text, in order to "always completely fill" a text field to its boundaries. We've seen this happen here-and-there in OSX. I have one idea on how to accomplish it, but it seems "clunky". I am wondering if there's a better way. My idea: use Conditional Formatting to change font size, based on Length(Self). I'd need many, many of those "steps", say, 30 of them, if I wanted to account for every possible font size between 12 point and 42 point, for example. That seems tedious to set up, and not truly "dynamic". Is there a better way?

I am looking to create a report that would summarize total payment received in each month and a total for any given year with a grand total of every year. FileMaker crashes when I choose field picker for a specific table which happens to have a large number of fields: 226. I don't know if that's the issue, but Flied Picker doesn't seem to crash for other random tables I tried. I'm using the latest version of FM 13 (.0v9). I checked the consistency of the file: no apparent problem. Is this a known issue?

I have a basic form with edit boxes. Some can be edited in browse mode and others can't. I've noticed when I click on the form, the edit boxes which are editable are highlighted with a bunch of tiny dots around the field borders. Hi I am a novice at filemaker pro. I am trying to get it to show what report version it is in the header of a report. I have tried several solutions and none seem to work. I want to have a separate layout table where I can put what report version it is what script it is working off and what schedule it is working off. Hi, I am currently trialling Filemaker Pro 14 with the intention to create custom layouts for particular data sets. I am using the standard Product catalog and the Products layout. For example I would like to create a separate layout for specific Product Categories. I create a script but it returns all records, it does not filter the records based on the field value. I want to create a check box that has two main items, from which a user can select one or more from one of the main items, but cannot crossover and check from both main categories. I would prefer to keep a single field. For example main category: "Apples" possible check boxes' red, tart, small, fresh OR "Oranges" navel, blood, tart, large. Every once in a while I come up against an issue that reminds me how little I really know about Filemaker. Creating summary reports is often the issue. I think what I want to do is possible, but I'm stumped. We track violations by address. Every time a violation is found at an address, and new record is created. I would like to create a report that tells us how many times an address is cited once, twice, three times, etc. in a given time frame. I can pretty easily create the summary report that groups by address, and then tells me how many times that address is cited. I need to take it one further step. Good morning, I have a table with Jobs and each job is related to a specific year. I would like to have a Drop down list in my Jobs layout that would filter all the jobs for the specfic year. I have tried to use Value lists and read the year data from a table. Both options and due to the fact that I have to select a Jobs table related field to use the Dropdown invalidates my attempts. I was wondering how to change the colors of tab panels. For example the onyx theme, the tab panel content area has a different color than the tab panel title headers. The active panel's content area is a dark gray while the title part has a black background color with light gray text. I can see how to change the text color and the fill color for the content area, but not the background color of the title area of each tab. Hi there I need to put together a sub summary report from a list of data which includes several 'grand summaries'. The basic report layout would be something like this, where each record has a sorting field present to identify it as either 'Group 1', 'Group 2' etc... I'm looking to see if there's a better way to do what I'm currently doing, which is effectively making cross tab tables from a single column of data. My main data table columns are (in a very simplistic format for digestion here): Date Amount TrueFalse1 TrueFalse2 TrueFalse3 There are around 70,000 records, each with entries in every field above. Hi there I've created several sub summary reports which require a column set up which needs to be aligned to the right, ensuring it's straight, good looking and professional. I have to put percentage figures alongside the values and when these are viewed on the normal layout, they're (mostly) ok. When I print preview, or when I print, the percent sign gets chopped straight down the middle, as if either the cell is too small or the padding is incorrect. I've tried adjusting both the size and the padding, to no avail. When I remove the right align on the percent cell, the problem goes. Hi, I recently upgraded to FMP14 from FMP12. I have a big problem with a solution that has worked perfectly in Version 12 and earlier but is now broken in Version 14. The program freezes and becomes responsive with any layout that has an image in a container. After a minute or two the form will be responsive until I try to do ANYTHING on the form again. Change modes, enter data, just click on an object - anything at all - it will become unresponsive again. Upon further investigation it seems the problem only occurs with Images containing meta data. My title may be ambiguous so I'll explain what I need to do. I have a found set of say, 18 records. Each record has a field on it which I use to sort against, in fact, there are a couple of fields, so the sort order is typically Field1, Field2, Field3 etc. I have a summary calculation returning values on a sub summary part and this is all well and good. Hi, I am having trouble searching the internet … "How To Ask Filemaker" to send zero records when I goto a certain layout without going into "Find Mode". Currently I get "All Records" as the default. And the internet is providing only general "Find" request links. No luck with a "No Record Find" request. I have been searching all over the filemaker world for better info on how to adjust layouts for label printing. I want to print to a label sheet that is not Avery. It is 9 columns wide, but each column of labels (.75") has a small space between them. I can't find a way to put that space in the layout to make sure the labels align.

Looking for some help in setting up an auto email to specific recipient when a field is modified. What I'm looking to accomplish is when Sales Rep = X, and any field is modified, send an email to X. Ideally it would also include what field was changed as part of the email content. Currently I have a single script setup (see attached) that when a rep logs in, it automatically goes to the Sales Rep Access layout, then if Sales Rep = X, it does an automatic find for their name in the Sales Rep field and only displays their accounts.

Just found out an interesting feature I thought I would share. While in FM11 I discovered that the alternating row color for a layouts 'Body' part is also controlled by it's Line Color, when changing the color of the Body parts line it will change the alternating background of color of said Body. Edit: ONLY FM11. Tested on FM13 as well, but FM13 uses CSS feature to control everything.

Hello Board! I have a 6 screen video wall that presents as one desktop that is horizontal. I have a script that fires up, creates a new window, goes to a layout then opens another window. One window per monitor. I will fill these with images, web viewers and messages from other sources. This is for a reception area to show corporate logos and adverts etc etc. We are also using it as a test bed for POS information in retail outlets served from our FMS installation. My Monitors are 1080 x 1920 resolution. When setting the window size, the unit is defined as 'Points'. Are these read the same as 'Pixels' in FM's case? Cheers, Harry

Hello, I have a pretty extensive Database going but I simply do not want the end-user to maximize the window. Now I know I can disable maximize when opening a new window so I made a main menu layout that forces people to click a button to bring them to the different parts of the DB which will open a new windows while keeping the main menu screen open in the back ground. In this way I disable the maximize ability on opening a new window. My question is thus...how can I simply disable maximize window ability on the first layout. Am I crazy or has FM12 removed the ability to completely remove/hide the border of a pop up field? I have tried all options to remove border lines in all states, set them to 0 width, set the line color to transparent, no love. No matter what the settings there is always a drop shadow below and to the left of the field. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I've have couple of calculation fields on a list layout that I suspect might be causing some performance issues. I've moved them off the visible portion of the layout so that they don't display in browse mode, only layout mode. My question is, will those fields still be calculated? LS, I have quite long script that runs fine. However, after running the script the cursor end up in a field very much to the right. I don't want this to happen. Which is quite strange as the last script steps have been. Commit record and go to field. In debugger I see al this happening perfectly. However, in a normal client the cursor just goes to that freaking field. I have removed that field, so the cursor just ends up in a different field. More info : a script is triggered with the onExitObject trigger after I select a different value from a value list. Hi. I have an unusual problem with screen refresh issue. I have a number of calculation fields on a page. I run a script that loads test data (although it's not the test data itself in question) here, and when the script finishes, I have to click somewhere on the page for the fields to re-display. or I can Next-Record or Previous-Record to do the same. The cursor ends up in a field in the portal window (not a calculation field) that is not editable. I have tried a number o things at the end of the script such as Next-Record, Previous-Record, Next-Field, Refresh-Window, Short script delays etc, but none seem to work.I have tried putting a single editable field in there …

I have a long-used Postscript font called Adobe Garamond that shows up fine in FM 12 Advanced files. But if I open the same file with FM 13 or 14, the font doesn't display at all, replaced by Helvetica. This has been a long-standing issue for me and I am on the verge of uninstalling the last two versions as useless. Is there some font-handling changes in the last two versions that could cause this? Hi folks, and thanks in advance! We're having trouble in 14 with our layouts, which mainly boils down to two issues: 1: Our dropdown/popup menus are way too small. They are always nearly half the size of the field font, which is not something we can easily remedy simply by doubling our field font size. Is there any way to change that? 2: Scrolling up and down glitches the layout terribly. Using the scroll bar buttons doesn't, actually, but clicking directly on the bar, or dragging on the bar, will almost invariably glitch the layout, creating lines and jumbling objects until we scroll back off and scroll back on with the buttons. So here's a weird one. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it. Overview: I have a database for tracking plant inventory for a wholesale plant nursery. The size of the pots is measured as a gallon size and abbreviated in the system. So a 1 gallon pot is a G1, a 2 gallon pot is a G2, a 3 gallon is a G3, etc. I have two layouts for viewing the data in either a list or as a form to show more information. Pretty standard stuff. I'd appreciate any pointers with this... Essentially I have a working report layout setup with two sub-summary parts. These parts both have the same summary fields on them but the parts are setup to summarise when sorted by different sorts: one by contactArea, one by contactCategory. This works perfectly – when I sort by both contactArea and contactCategory at the same time, I get both overall Area totals and Category subtotals (there is also a Grand Summary part which provides overall totals, i.e. sum of all Areas). I have been working with FM 13 and it has been a thorn in my side now for sometime that the old layout creation ability to have all fields added to a layout upon creation is gone now, or so at least I have discerned. I have a screen size guide that I have new users open so I can quickly get a feel for how much screen real estate they have to work with. I had what appears to me to be a glitch show up yesterday. The text wrapped from far right to a second row - and I can recreate this issue by changing the magnification level to 75%. Any idea why text would automatically wrap to a second line?

Hello there, I am trying to have an image set as a background of the header of a record display layout, that image must change based on a field, that I got right, the problem is the image is not on the correct align with the container field border, it is always few pixels under like if there was an empty border limit where the image start displaying. I tried to mess around with the data formating settings on the inspector to crop, reduce or enlarge to fit etc, none removed the empty limiter there. The orange line is the field border, I need the image to completely fill the field. Ideas are very very welcome! Thanks!

I have no idea where to put this question so I thought I would start here. If it should be somewhere else please advise. I have a database that relies on graphics similar to the attached file. In one particular container field I have 36 separate graphic representations that need to show up conditionally. My users are allowed to resize their windows as they like and the contents are set to resize as needed, however the layouts have been designed within the "smallest space necessary" to fit all the content (depending on the users screen resolution). I need to prevent the user from scaling the window too small (i.e. smaller than the initial set layout size) - is this possible with leaving the resize window option checked?

Hi I need some guidance regarding setting up a report. I have a simple income and expense layout with a report that shows monthly sub summaries and grand total for a date range sorted by month and item code numbers. The date range is set by global fields for the start date and the end date. I am running into an issue of some records not sorting the same way. The user's UI has a portal viewing some related records; this portal is sorted by two fields. However, it doesn't appear that the 2nd field is having the correct sorting affect. This same table, when viewed in Table view with the same found set, and then sorted by these two fields, does appear to correctly sort. The relationship for the portal isn't itself sorted, so I can't seem to discern where the issue is. I have a faint memory that Filemaker use to keep track of the window size when the file was running on a local machine and you closed that last window, that would be the size of the first window when you open the database again. This doesn't seem to be the case any more, I realize that I can script the first window that open but I am just check to see if what I remember was the case and might it still be possible.

Most horrible thing happened. I picked out icons and put them on my layouts and they are very cool. Then I close file and come back and they all say file not found. How can file not be found when I put them on my layout? I did not keep the files. What is happening please? I updated my OS few days back. Did it break the way png files are stored? I know you all know what I am talking about ... it is when there are no records being displayed on a layout (whether in Form, List or Table view) and someone accidentally clicks onto the layout ... please see attached the ridiculous message they receive. It has not been a problem until more recently since I have begun to present Users with 0-found-count record layouts so as to eliminate needless fetch and network traffic. I made a file using the Invoices Starter Solution. I then added additional functionality to also do Purchase orderss. I we started using the solution. I made a clone of the solution so I could continue the UI Design phase and when it was ready I imported the records from the old solution. The problem is that when I imported the Company Dashboard, It seems to have created a phantom record that I can't delete. As you can see from the atached screenshots, the found records show 2 but in table view only one shows and all the buttons having to do with record keeping are greyed out and no Records button menu. Hi I am designing a layout that displays different records and they will vary in how many lines are shown. The each section is separated by date as the factor for displaying each record. Under each date there maybe be just one field with several records or two or three fields with many records displaying with both. So if I just used a line to the left of each field block but the date section was higher on the left of the report it would leave a gap at the bottom. I thought maybe to make it so there is never any gaps I could use the line tool. But it is always at a fixed height. I feel like I've seen this described before, but I'm not able to come up with the correct key words to find what I'm looking for. We have a (v12) database for time entry and billing, and due to the huge number of records created, we've generally created "archive" files every 2 years or so. These are simply additional files, so that we don't have more than about 300k records in a single file - the system REALLY gets painfully slow around the two year mark. Hi. I have a text field for entering the description of work being quoted for, almost every description will vary in size on each quote, all other fields aren't a problem, only this one because it needs user input on every quote, input that varies in text length. My problem is this, that when I add this text field as a 'merge field' to a letter, it doesn't automatically resize to fit the description for work to be done. Have not been able to identify why this happens - margins change drastically, to 1.88" for both left and right margins. I can reclaim the size of the workable area by using fixed margins and resetting to desired. I would rather find out why this happen, and stop it!  Any ideas?  Â

Anyone else having this problem? When I format the fill and/or borders on fields, they: Only show up in browse mode for the active record (none of the others) Formatting disappears completely on Preview Mode I have Alternate Row and Active Row states set to off. I'm trying to hide two field on a specific layout. I have the hide object when set to : LayoutNames ( "Users" ) wouldn't that hide the object when i'm on a certain layout? in this case, i'm on the layout Users, but it's not hiding the fields. Not sure what to do here.

I can't seem to make a wide layout in vs 13. I have files made in 12 which I just extended by dragging sideways and longways. This layout needs to be wide and I used this type of layout on FM server before and it's fine on the web. What happened to the new layout section? It's kind of strange now. Anyway, I looked for the line to drag out on the screen and it won't budge. I need 2 pages wide and 2 pages long - it will never be printed. Thanks very much.

I am actualy not sure if the sliding option is the thing I need here, in this layout, in list view, it is a very wide layout as it has many fields showing, I need to have the buttons that I set on the header to stay on screen even when I move all to the way right. I tried all configurations possible in the position/autosizing and sliding but the buttons are simple stuck there where I put them. What am I missing here? Sorry if is an stupid question, I am just very new with all that. Thanks!
