    Hi, I am familiar with the send mail script step. What I'd like to do is include the first an last name when sending an email. In that way the receiver can choose 'add to contacts' and the first and last name plus the email will be added to contacts. If you make a calc field with firstlastnamefield & " <" & emailaddressfield & ">" and copy and paste the contents of this field into the 'to' field in Mail, it will include the first and last name together with the email address. However, if you use the same field in the script step Send Mail in the 'To' field, it recognises the email address, but skips the first and last name. Any idea how …

  2. I have placed two instances of a repeating field on the layout, one to show all 6 repetitions, the other shows only the first repetition. Using "Hide object if.." I have the correct instance of the field showing up as required in form view, but table view only shows the one instance in any condition. Is there any way to achieve the same effect in table view?

  3. Is it possible to freeze a part (e.g. Header or footer) in form view as is possible in List view ? I want to be able to scroll down a rather lengthy layout on an IOS device but still keep parts of the layout in a frozen state either at the top or the bottom of the screen. The frozen part would contain fields which display summary information for the current record as well as buttons for inputting data into the current record.

    I just cleaned up my report by using Merge fields, and it's all very pretty now. However I've noticed now that if I click Find, I can no longer select any of the fields. Can you not use Find with merged fields? Is there a way to create a separate layout that it switches to when using Find? Edit: Never mind. I realized I can still access it in Table view, just not in list view. Ahh, the vagaries of FMP.

  8. Hello, I have a portal with a date field in the format DD-mmmm-YYYY for example. 01-Jan-2015. I want to line up the right side and left side of each portal entry for this field so the text lines up perfectly. I am able to line up one side using the justification options but when I use full justification it does not work. Is there a way to line up the dates so that the spacing changes for some dates to meet the margins of the field and the text lines up on both sides? Thanks in advance

    Hi Guys, I'm writing a mail merge facility for my database. I've found the excellent custom function by nightwing which will convert mail merge text into data from my records. One of the things I need to look into is the ability to format tabular data into one of my mail merges. Has anyone created a grid in a field that holds tabular data? I know using the formatting toolbar, you can use tabstops if I was manually typing in the data but can you apply tabstops through scriptmaker?     Hello there, just started learning FM trying to build a working DB to my store, one issue I am having is I dont want it to automaticaly save the record, so I've made a button to save the new record and go back to the "main" layout, so FM will pop a dialog windows asking if you want to save, cancel or go delete, what I need to change is that dialog window, it says "FileMaker Pro". I just want to change that text or remove it completely. Is it possible? Thank you very much!

  12. Hi All! I work in a database that has several currency fields all set that way in US dollars. Maybe 1 out of 10 times I need to create a record where the currency would need to be displayed in euros, pounds, etc. Is there a way to make the fields editable so that I can ovverride the $ symbol only when I need to? Its not worth making the fields general since the majority of the time the value is $. Its also too clumsy to make a drop down box next to each field where you can select the currency symbol because there are MANY fields on the layout that display currency and its already a tightly structured layout. Any other ideas? Thanks!

    I've noticed that some of my popovers get what appears to be a kind of loading bar at the bottom when they are opened. It appears for just about 1 second and then disappears. However, not all popovers display this. I thought it might have something to do with the client caching data that is being displayed in the popover, but even that is inconsistent. I have popovers that are displaying portals (something you would expect to have some indexing delay) and they don't get the bar. If I have a popover button or a slide control that is conditionally visible and the condition is such that this object is not visibly present, does the server have to evaluate for this condition anyway? If nothing is being drawn or refreshed on the screen does this add weight to the file? Put another way, if the condition is such that the object is visible, does this take longer to load than if the object was not visible?

  22. I have a very simple database of inspection schedules (inspector, day, time, type of inspection, etc) - with 12 layouts, all of which load almost instantly, except for 1. There's not much special about the slow layout that I can see. It contains almost the exact same info as 4 other very similiar layouts - but it takes 15 seconds or more to switch to this layout, where the others are less than a second. It does have a bit more color, and a few more buttons, but I wouldn't think that would account for such a delay.     Am I missing something here? The auto-enter incremental serial (attached fp7) is set to validate range 1-10. Purpose is to restrict total records in the table to 10. Create 11 or 12 records - even explicitly commit between records 10, 11 and 12. Not only does it allow the record creations but the serial quits auto-entering completely. This behaviour is replicated in 11, 12 and 13 on Mac OSX 10.9. I realise my implementation may seem weird but regardless, am I the only one who finds this behaviour unexpected?   25. I recently upgraded from Filemaker 11 Advanced, to Filemaker 13 (basic). Now when I create a database, or “Save As”, the new database has a blank icon, like a text file. This means I can’t tell my FM databases from my text source files. I have read various solutions online, and even done something in Terminal. Nothing is working. Does anybody have any suggestions? This guide discusses an approach whereby the developer creates a series of blank layouts for each of the primary tables. A script is triggered when a user first logs in that loops through the layouts and eliminates the found sets in each table. I'm quite sure this is something that is beyond the call of duty, but thought I'd check to see if anyone has any suggestions: Often users modify a field but remain in that field, they do not commit the record by clicking the blank space on the layout. Obviously this means that that record is locked so no one else can modify it. The suggestion has been to have an automated timer commit script. Off the top of my head this would probably not solve the problem if the record cannot be validated because of other fields that need to be populated (which would happen around half the time I'd say).     Sorry for such a basic question, but we recently upgraded from FMP9 to FMP13. Existing databases were converted. I need to modify tooltips...but apparently it has changed drastically (at least for me) with FMP Advanced 13. Silly question? How do you edit existing tooltips? I can't find the option ANYWHERE. The FMP advanced manual provides no guidance and just a vague statement that you can edit tooltips. I've been able to "show" which fields have tooltips, but nothing else. Right mouse clicking, looking in layout, format, etc., menu options doesn't show anything. Inspector doesn't show any options. Thank you!

    In my database I have a couple fields that have currency information and I am only able to make one field per section have the $ sign show up when you look at the fields. I created the fields then used Inspector to select "currency" under Data Formatting to make the number show up with dollar signs but I can't get the dollar signs in all of the fields.     I'm hoping someone else has seen this. When FM 12 first came out I watched every video I could find about it. I recall seeing in one of them the demonstrator copy a layout object, go to a different layout and paste the object in place. He even commented on how nice it was that FM 12 included this paste in place feature. Since then I have rewatched many of the videos trying to find where I had seen it but with no luck. Was I just dreaming or is there now a way to paste in place rather than have to make note of the position and type it in in the new layout every time?

    I have 2 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10 with FM Pro 12.0v5 that we are using from a remote site. When i open our customer file remotely on one computer everything works fine. On the 2nd computer the 1st layout of all customer info opens up blank. All other layouts are working fine. Nothing is visible other than a couple of lines showing where a couple of fields are placed. Going into layout mode all fields are still blank...a green dot but no field names.     I'm using FM13 Advanced (Mac) to develop a solution. I copied my original file, experimented with different background images for a layout, and also did some other development. The file size difference between my original file and the one with background image experimentation is significant...more than I would expect from the other development I did. As a test, I saved off another version of the file using the "Compacted copy (smaller)" option, but this had minimal effect. Â I easily got the company logo and address into a layout and am able to filter (FIND) on a PayDate for those agents earning a commission at say the end of the month.     Greetings. I am new to the Forum and look forward to your help. I am using the Surface Pro Tablet while I am in the field - I am using a cloud hosting server - to complete reports. The issue I am experiencing is when I open the table/form, the screen does not size properly and I am forced to use the Vertical/Horizontal scroll bars. I would like for the table/form to size correctly so I can eliminate the sliding bars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey all, I'm trying to find a way to insert a page break BY record. That is, mark a specific record in some way, and say no matter where that record falls in the layout, break the page afterwards until the next record. I've played around with a "break field" and sub summary parts a little bit but I can't seem to make it do what I want. Also, I don't want any of this mechanism to be visible when I print.   68. We have a message in the database that is sent out to end users at certain times. Filemaker used to properly format the line break tag <br> at the end of the lines where it was needed. Now it sends them along in the message which is confusing a lot of our non-technical users. I have removed them but now the message is not properly formatted and comes in on large chunk of text. Has anybody experienced this as well and have any advice for a solution to restore formatting the way we would like? Thanks in advance.

    I have page numbers inserted into several layouts in a text box in the form "Page {{PageNumber}}" Since installing FMP13, all of my page numbers have started printing out in the form "Page $1.00" I've never had this problem and I'm sure it is something very simple, but I just don't see how to return it to a simple page number (e.g., "Page 1"). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I created a solution in FM12 using pretty much a stock theme. When opening the solution in FM13 the fonts and layout haver gotten somewhat larger and now the layouts requires scrolling to acess the complete layout. (this is on Windows). Â

  74. I am currently updating a runtime solution that we have been using for 14 years, it is designed for crossplatform use. I am using Filemaker 13 advanced and doing my work on a Mac (Mavericks). When opening it in a windows enviroment the buttons/fonts look differently and aren't lined up correctly. I used fonts that are available on both platforms. Once again I was playing around with slider buttons, trying out a method I 'd attempted in the past without success (although to my chagrin, I 'd forgotten I 'd tried it before...): Buttons go outside the panel, and the highlighted button is hidden or shown based on the current panel, triggered by a panel change. Should work wonderfully and it's the best way to implement buttons for sliders it seems...on paper...sadly. The problem is you need to refresh the buttons with each panel change BUT the onpanelchange scirpt trigger gets executed BEFORE the panel change, hence you can't program it to get the current panel name and if it is X,Y,Z hide the appropriate highlighte…

The fields are: Date, Credit, Debit and Balance. One table is "Supplier" which contains a unique supplier ID, the next table is "Invoices", and the final is "Payments", all linked using the unique supplier ID.   77. I have a layout which includes a Sub-summary part sorted by a text field named "Description" in the Line Items table. Thus, the layout sorts each sub-summary alphabetically by Description. With the goal of having more control over how the sub-summaries are displayed I have added a number field named "Line_Item_Order_Number" in the Line Items table. However, when I change the sort field of the Sub-summary part to "Line_Item_Order_Number", the Sub-summary does not even show up on the layout. Any ideas why? I'm using FMP Advanced v12.

  82. Hi On the all units layout I have added some vertical lines to try to separate some of the data. However previously when I have added in separation lines and ticked sliding up based on all units and also resize enclosing part the lines displays only as long as the information that is in it. However this time the line seems to stay at a fixed length and I cannot see what is different this time. If anyone is able to have a look and see what I have missed that would be amazing.   85. I'm having a difficult time trying to format a time stamp field to display only hours-minutes- AM /PM without also displaying date data. The field is populated using a "GET CURRENT TIMESTAMP" script. The result I get reads 9/12/2014 3:01:46PM. I would like to have it simply display 3:01 AM (or PM) I have tried the formatting dialog box in the inspector and have tried to set the date fields to be a custom format displaying "None" for each of the date attributes.     Greets, all: Â I'm creating a report where I need to average each heading's average but I'm scratching my head raw trying to get it to work. (Please refer to the attached.) Â For example, under Content Specialist, I want to average 2.13 and 2.71 which should equal 2.42 (4.84 / 2 = 2.42) but FileMaker has other plans and spat out 3.03...which is a result of taking all the gazillion records in the found set and averaging them out instead of averaging just the two (sub-summarized) numbers. Â You'll see in my screen shots that when I highlight a record the fields have border lines but I'd like to have all fields with border lines regardless of whether it's selected or not. Several years ago I volunteered to help an artist friend by setting up a graphically complex database which made central use of a specific dingbat font (for musical symbols). Long story*** but... Now, on a much newer computer without the font, faced with a request to re-generate the printout, I don't even see how I can find out what the font name WAS, since FM only shows me the substituted-in font when I [convert and] open the file. Some of our report layouts have a very tiny subsummary part, so that the client name (which is how the layout is sorted) appears next to the first project, instead of above it. This was just to make our reports fewer pages, as printing a report with every project can be a real tree-eater. I believe I read something about how FM 12 handles this, but I can't find it now, and it looks like if I have a field on a layout which overlaps between two parts - it just doesn't appear at all.
