    Hi Folks, I've just moved my database to a server. It works fine, but it's slower and a couple of the scripts now take enough time that I could do with putting up a wait / progress bar. The issue is that the scripts dive into other layouts to create records in other tables. Am I right in thinking that I can't use a Card Window and then change layout behind it? (I haven't actually used Card Windows before...) I suspect that this isn't an unusual thing to do - what are the standard tricks? Many thanks all! Best wishes, Mike

  2. I've placed an eps image into a layout, the company logo that appears on every page. It hung around for a day or two and then disappeared, leaving its icon. I thought it might be a linking issue (even though I recall having embedded it) so I moved it to the folder, the icon changed colour. I have tried to re-import the image and now I'm told Filemaker "This file type cannot be used a picture" - I haven't edited the file at all in the interim. What's happening here? I realise, pragmatically, I shall just replace the image with a PNG and then copy into each and every layout, but, beyond my frustration I would like to understand what's going on.

I am trying to figure out a way of reflecting the users "Mastery" of each problem -- the idea being that they will take the quiz repeatedly over time, gradually getting them right more consistently. I thought about just showing a % of Right answers divided by Attempts -- but this number wouldn't change (improve markedly after several attempts. If they got a problem wrong the first two times, and then correct 3 times in a row, the progressive % would be 0, 0, 33, 50, 60 -- and 60% doesn't suggest the degree of mastery one deserves for getting it right for the 3 most recent attempts in a row. …

  5. I have a file that contains records that have a beginning date field and a ending date field. My summary report is working, it is breaking as it should and contains subtotals and a grand total. My problem is I want to report records that are between a user entered beginning date and ending date. How do I get those dates and use them to run my subsummary report?

  6. Hi can anyone advise how i can make a simple value list conditional? I have a single table on a job bag system and one field specifies the choosen print supplier i.e.: "London Print ""Wards Print" etc. I would like the detail fields such as "Foil Colour" to be conditional because different suppliers have different references to the colour swatches.. e.g. London Print may use "RED032" where Wards Print could use "BlazeRed" I only want to display the user the values specified by the choosen supplier.. i'm not sure where to start?   7. Hello I started working on a new client which has already FileMaker15. I am used with FM11 from years now. One thing I found strange, was the browsing of the fields on manage database window. On FM11 I could easily press on the keyboard the key of starting letter of a field and navigate to the fields with that starting letter, on FM15 it just hangs at the first fields it finds, sometimes jumps from first to second it finds, kind of strange. Let say I want to navigate to a field named "Saturn".     Hello all, I have created this sample solution to demonstrate a technique that I'm trying to implement using custom value lists. I was able to fix my first issue, but the way it was fixed is bothering me a little. Because it seems like too much overhead to have a non-global/non-calculation field serving the same purpose as one. This version actually uses two extra fields whereas the first was using one field. It works fine when just one word is selected, but fails when two or more are. I've tried different operators, but = and == don't work either.     I recently upgraded from FMP 14 to 16. In layout mode, there was a line of text and icons at the bottom of the window. I don't see them anymore and can't find an option to view them. The line consisted of a zoom number (typically 100), a minus sign "-", a plus sign "+", an icon, and then another icon, and a mode selector - Layout in layout mode. I would like to use the second icon which changed the view of the part labels such as "Body" and "Footer". I would like those labels to be shown at the side and not on top of the part. My current layout looks like this: Where the left section has buttons to take you to the different layouts and look at various different tables, and the middle column is a scrollable portal to look at all of the jobs.     I used to know how to do this… I need a layout that tells me the total number of each plant on the list. Fields are: Plant Code, Qty. Sample data (using commas): AAAA,15; AAAA,10; BBBB,25; CCCC, 40; AAAA,5; CCCC,10 I want a layout that tells me the total number of each type of plant, like this: Plant, Total Qty (from sample data above) AAAA, 30 BBBB,25 CCCC,50 So,I tried making Total Qty field, and putting it in a trailing sub summary, sorting by Plant.   32. Hello, I want to split a custom value list into two lists while keeping my records intact. I used to add new vendors to a custom value list called _vendors_. I have now reached the 30000 character limit. I have managed to solve the 30000 character limit on custom value lists by splitting them into two list (_vendors_A-K and _vendorrs_L-Z) following these steps https://community.filemaker.com/thread/93937. Problem is that since I changed the value list _vendors_ into two new lists the records don't remember their old custom value meaning I would have to change over 4000 records by hand.     Quite recently I upgraded from FM11 to FM16 and converted a bunch of files. I since appear to have a portal that isn't always displaying the correct records. The first screenshot below, shows the layout based on the Route Packs table, with three portals based on different tables stacked down the left hand side. The portal that is displaying strange behaviour is the bottom most portal, although on this record (Armley Jn - Dockfield Jn) it is displaying the correct records.   37. Hi, I made a Filemaker Database a couple of years ago for a correspondence school, now I'm building the same thing for another school. The database has a record for each student and a field for each possible lesson they can be sent. When a lesson is sent the date goes in the appropriate field. For reporting I had no idea what I was doing, so I just made a table with a field for each lesson and a script that would search within a date range, take a record count of the returned records take that number and put it in my report table.   40. I'm trying to make a Filemaker solution to design labels. In the layout there are two fields I would like rotate 45 degrees. I have noticed that Filemaker rotate in steps of 90 degrees. However, I have not been able to find a solution for 45 degrees of rotation. Any help and advice is welcome to correct this layout problem, perhaps someone who knows a plugin that can help with this. or another clever trick to solve this? The layout of the labels is given and adamant, several labels have already been printed and will have to be replaced in a layout change. So adjusting layout is not an option in this case.

    I was wondering if it were possible to have indents in a text field. I would like to have a bullet followed by a paragraph that is indented for all it's lines.   43. I have several reports that use Google Charts displayed through a web viewer to display a "'gas gauge" type of chart. This is a very popular style for our dashboard reports to the point where it is a requirement. I originally started using them in FileMaker 14 and they worked great. When FileMaker 15 came out they wouldn't work at first but then did after an update to the code. I'm now testing Filemaker 16 and they're back to not working properly. For an inventory management database, I'd like my main screen to be able to accept pulls from three related databases: - Serialized (valuable tools, which I track and want back - the paintbrush); - Replenishable (cheap tools that I buy by the yard and if one gets left behind I don't care - the paint-mix sticks); - Perishable (disposable tools that are left on the job site - the paint).   50. Hi, I have a database with +1000 records, each with a long list of long/lat coordinates that need to be reversed to lat/long. The amount of decimal numbers is not fixed, yet every longitude value starts with an opening bracket "[" and is separated from the Lat value by a comma ",".   60. I have a layout for printing on a letterhead and have inserted an image file as the Background Image to serve as the letterhead. Printing and Save to PDF work as expected, but for the life of me I cannot get the background image to display correctly in Preview mode. Not displaying correctly in Preview mode is not terrible except, when the client does a print preview and it doesn't line up, there will be questions...even though it print correctly. I just completed the table structure design, with a layout for each table, 2782 tables in total (a few did not need representations in the layout structure). I split out my tables into folders. When I go to select a table from one of the folders, it does not navigate to it, but does not freeze, nor does it show an error, it simply behaves as if it is on the layout and continues functioning as if nothing had been done.   63. I have a portal within a tab. Each portal row has a button bar. The buttons open popovers associated with the portal row context. If I change the layout of the popover, the associated button bar on the portal often disassociates from the portal row and jumps onto the tab surface. At that point it only shows in one portal row (the first), since it is back one layer. I have had a big problem getting it back where it belongs, sticking to the portal surface. We have a table containing part numbers, which is related to a table containing "revisions" for the part numbers, which is related to a table of inspections for the "revisions".   67. I have a 4 column report for an invoice: Date, Activity, Time, Charge in that order from left to right. Activity can sometimes be 2 or more lines. I really want the time and charge fields to align horizontally with the last line of the activity field: so if activity is 5 lines long the time and the charge will print on the same line as the 5th line. if activity is only 1 line I want time and charge to print opposite the first line. I cannot get this to work: I have tried each field aligned in bottom, I have grouped and I have locked. Can it be done?

  69. I´m not sure why but the WV shows the correct result in some computers and devices, but in other just shows an empty page (please see attached file with WV including code). My question is if it's somehow possible share layout design across all those databases because occasionally I need to modify that layout. Change it in all dbs could be time consuming. Of course I can have empty "design db" where I could re-import data after layout change but again it could be time consuming too.   80. Hello I am experiencing a strange issue with custom menu and CTRL+F keyboard shortcut when changing keyboard layout to albanian. The custom menu is basically a copy of the default menu with some items left out, not the view mode though. But when I press CTRL+F nothing happens. If instead I go to the view menu and click on find mode it switches to it and I can see the CTRL+F shortcut on the side of the menu. Also, if I first go to layout mode by pressing CTRL+L then it works by pressing CTRL+F but will not work back again. If instead I switch to the default menu, all works fine. Issue is verified on two PC, both with Windows 7 and FM11

    I have a portal with more values than fit on the screen. I scroll to a value and select it. If I leave the layout and return, the portal does not automatically return to the active row.     FM 15 Adv. When I click on a drop-down list it selects the whole value making it difficult to edit the value. I have to click 4 or 5 times before the selection disappears so I can edit the value. The drop-down reads values from a field and is not configured to select the entire contents on entry. Is there a way to stop this? I would prefer to just click and have the insertion point appear where I click.

This is a stylistic issue: I have a calculation field (text) that displays a three-line address: Street Address City / ST / ZIP Country The field is clickable so when the user clicks on it, it copies the entire address into the clipboard so it can be pasted in a non-FileMaker Pro form on-screen. To save vertical space in the layout, I want to display only the last line of that field that shows Country, but no matter how much I play with the controls in the Inspector--and adjust the field's height--I just can't get it to work. My question stems from a scenario where I have a jobs table and a plant (being machinery) table. I have a script in my database that allows users to type in a list and the script parses out the information and finds the appropriate records in my database. When a record isn't present, a custom dialog pops up and notifies the user that the record is not present in the database.     is it possible to size a layout that matches the exact size of an object/container for export purposes (say 468x60 pixels) I'm wanting to do some graphic style layouts. Printing them limits you to the inherent dimensions available on your printer, but exporting them as PDF and then editing them further there is a distinct option. ANd I am more interested in keeping them in teh digital realm than in printing them to paper. Any way to export the results in the desired size?

When I move an object into a layout, I can’t resize the popover to fit around the object. Sometimes the object disappears and bring to front does not bring it back. I have accomplished this in the past using Mail Merge in Word. To simplify somewhat: In FileMaker, I have a script that creates an Excel file, one row per poster.
