Hi All, I am attempting to write a script to automate the process of printing 600 chart images, to separate PDF's. Everything works correctly if I carry it out manually as follows: New Window using Layout, Show All Records, Constrain Found Set, Sort Records, Go to First Record, Preview, Save as PDF, the correct Folder on my One Drive appears, I use options to specify 1 page and click on a current file to overwrite. I have a server side script that runs on regular interval. One of it's jobs is to create an agreement PDF and upload it to a server. I had this working fine on one solution and have now built it on another solution. The problem is that when I try to get the documents path I get nothing. It took me a while to understand what was wrong, because when I called the script with static parameters from another part of my server side script , there was no problem - I got a value for documents path. Hi all I am in the process of inserting PDF versions of documents into their related records in my system. While everything is still filed in paper binders I would like to have the option of both printing and exporting said PDFs from their containers. These files are "secure" inside of the database. I'm also hoping to script them into email attachments when I finish up working on that functionality as well. A few other (older) posts I've read have said FMP doesn't support this natively and to use Apple Scripts to do so, but with newer versions of FMP I'm wondering if this has changed. My app creates a new PDF. I want the app to append to this new PDF another PDF that is stored on the database but was created outside of FM Pro. The Save Records as PDF (with Append) function does not seem to apply in this situation. I'm looking for suggestions on how I might implement this functionality within FM Pro 18. In a script, I select a container field, choose "Insert Picture" choose a scanned PDF file then GetThumbnail(MainContainer;50;50) - it just leaves a "?" in the thumbnail field. When I import a batch using the Import Records Script Step -> Folder -> Picture and Movie Files, using Secure Storage, choose the option to add a thumbnail to my thumbnail container field, (importing the same pdf file) it generates the thumbnail perfectly. I'm a little embarrassed by this question because it should be simple. I'm hoping someone can help me learn to save records as a PDF (448 records, 171 unique names and I want 171 individual pdfs. I've gone through tutorials but I can't get past the first page of 171. Ughhh). I 'm like most people and working from home and hoping to save someone else a lot of work by printing the whole PDF (171 pages) and needing to scan each page. Hi all I've created a PDF export script. However when I run it on the server (admin privileges are ticked) I get error 800 on the save as PDF step. I can see the file appear in the destination, but it disappears after a second. The export path is a variable which is set as "filewin:" & Get ( DocumentsPath) & "Report.pdf" I do not get this problem with the Export Records script step. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello, We recently upgraded from FM12 to FM16 at my company and .pdf's that were in container fields in version 12 are no longer able to be opened. We use Adobe Acrobat DC and run Windows 10. Is this a known issue? I also noticed that when we drop .pdf's into the same container fields in version 16, the .pdf is able to be opened, but only if I right-click and export the field contents into Adobe Acrobat. Prior to the upgrade, we used to be able to simply double-click the .pdf's and they would open. Thank you in advance for any help and advice!

Hi Y'all, I have the following Problem, which has existed ever since at least Filemaker Version 11, I have come across this on several occasions in many different Database files. I have a simple portrait layout with 3-4 Text fields, all rather long as they can contain much text, one below the other. Quite simple really. The layout is organized so that all Text Fields "shift up" upon printing (with the enclosing part, based on all objects above), so that if theres only a little text in one field, it looks nice (I dont think thats relevant though anyways...). I have declared a variable for printing path to temporary folder ($FullPdfPath) which is shown as "/Macintosh HD/var/folders/v0/1xnctqb11hz6qff8qt937yn40000gn/T/S10/print.pdf". So far, so good... Hi, I am trying to set a path name for the Save Records as PDF script step. I am trying to define a path to a Windows server share from a Macintosh. The documentation is less than clear on how one would do this. I've tried variations on this: "filemac://serverName/shareName/fileName.pdf" This format returns an 800 error (unable to create file on disk). My question is how to format this path name running Filemaker 16 on OS X and targeting a volume on a Windows server. When trying this, I have the Windows share mounted on the OS X machine.

Hi all! I'm battling an interesting problem. I'm trying to create a PDF from FileMaker that can be signed using the Sign feature in Acrobat Reader. I created a PDF with NO security restrictions using FileMaker's Save Records as PDF option. When I opened the PDF in Acrobat Reader, the Sign menu is grayed out and the "Signing" item in Document Restrictions Summary of the PDF is set to "Not Allowed". Hi i have a script that exports a group of records based on the script rules to excel , i would like to know is there a way i could script that this excel then gets saved to a container field in my solution? i would appreciate if someone could help me on this or give me a different way i could get the same results to work.

I have created a useful pdf report which summarises transactions by month. eg July 100,000$ August 200,000$ etc However, I want to be able to use this data in a spreadsheet but when I output the data to an excel file I get all of the transaction which make up the month's total. Is there a way to just get the summary totals in a spreadsheet?

Hi I recently updated my computer to Win 10 from Win 7. In the old Win 7 computer everything worked fine when I saved to PDF. After the update the Save Records as PDF causes FIleMaker 16 Advanced to crash. It happens in every database that has Save to PDF in a script. It does not happen in FileMaker 13 Advanced, It does not happen in FileMaker 14 Advanced but it happens in FileMaker 15 Advanced. Any idea what is causing this issue? Regards, Reynir.

I’m on FMP 16.02, the file is on Cloud. I’ve got a script to generate a roster report, which has been working great. Today, for the first time, the BODY of ONE ENTRY only has a large gray box on it. I can’t figure out why. The area for the name/picture is the sub-header, and has a colorfill and border (the part does). The body itself has no fill or lines. Good morning everyone I created a database runtime solution with FileMaker Pro 15 advanced. The program must export the contents of a form in PDF format. In a solution that runs under FileMaker I could use the command "Save as PDF" but this command does not work in a runtime solution. I have placed a PDF of a form on a layout to use as a background and then placed fields on that to assemble a customized form appearance. When I print it to my Lexmark laser printer (or any printer for that matter) from a Mac it all prints in high resolution, but when I run the solution from my Win XP box it prints the PDF background image in very low resolution (I'm guessing 72ppi), but the fields on that same layout print smooth in high resolution. Is there any way to force the PDF to print in high res too? As a test, I made a PDF of the layout (using Cute PDF writer) and discovered that the low resolution still occurred on the PDF image part but the filemaker part…

I have a multi-page printout which is split with a page break for each sub summary part. Imagine for example a room inventory list where each room gets its own page. I'd like to save these as separate PDF files, so each room has it's own file, e.g. Room1Inventory.pdf Room2Inventory.pdf ... One way to do this is simply loop through the room numbers, and for each room do a Find / Sort / Preview Mode / Save as PDF. But I'm curious if this can be done a different way - what if I already am in Preview mode with a report showing all rooms (where there's a sub summary page break). Since migrating from FMSA 13 to FMS 15 and upgrading different versions of FMP 14 and 15 recently, certain layouts are provoking an error with the function, "save records as PDF". This is independent of whether the function is in a script or called manually. The PDF error that now appears is: Would any one have any ideas of how to resolve this. The only workaround I have found is to dig out an old version of FMP 13 and there the "save records as PDF" works fine. I wold like to avoid having to do this.

LS, We recently migrated from FM14 to FM15 and suddenly some invoices come out strange after the saveAsPdf script step . ( see pic ). When in preview mode everything seems to be ok and is printed to a printer ok. Theme : Classic, Font used : Calibri size 11 and 12. Problem occurs on Mac 10.11 and Win10 with FM15. When I do a print ( to preview ( mac )) and then save as pdf everything is also ok, so it seems to be related to the FM pdf renderer. However, not every invoice has this issue, but I wonder how data could cause this behaviour. Best regards !

Hello.all I have a script that saves files to a pdf is a person has "Passed" the exam . There is multiple Certificates and the script used to put them all together and email them as ONE pdf. Since upgrading to FM15 this script although still working and i can in fact open my email and see multiple PDFs on my MAC, the people with Windows say they cant open it. It appears to save on there system as a PDF.Dat ? If i send a single i have no problem, its just if i send as a multiple. Any ideas?

Hi i created a report that gets saved intoa pdf into a field - all working great. just one interesting issue , ,not sure what it means , on the bottom of the layout i inserted a picture of the directors signature , which is a must for every report , however in browse mode it works fine but when i save it apdf for some reason it gets omitted , any idea if that is a filemaker limitation? i actually have the companies logo at the top and that is showing up correctly.

Hi in my solution i created that i can export the pdf to download from webdirect. it worked great till lately , but for some reason doesn`t seem to work anymore. whe i press on the button that does the export script it prompts me to save it and then prompts me with a download button , but for some reason the screen just gives a flash and the button greys out as if it has downloaded already , but the file is nowhere not downloaded in my browser nor on my desktop. please can someone help me out with this, wonder if anyone ever had this issue

I had a request to print PDFs from an iPad. In the past I created a bot that based on Sic Fried Rice's (if I'm not mistaken) technique would print a label on a label printer by triggering a script from the iPad. I would like to be able print without setting up a Bot, PHP or using a plugin. I got close but for some reason I'm stuck on the last bit and I'm sure other developers have done this before. LS, A client of mine has installed a 32bit FM14v4 client on a 64bit Win7. Now when I do : save as Pdf the pdf turns up with empty fields. Does anyone else have this problem ? Add : I does not seem to be a problem with FM14v4 64bit, but as they are using Outlook32 bit they get bitten by the other know issue of mixing 64bit FM with 32bit Outlook. TIA

I've been previously generated PDFs from layouts that have portals with sliding objects with no issues. I've lately been trying to do this and have been receiving an error. The error only occurs when 2 or more portals are on the print layout and only when set with sliding objects. And causes it to break the print and not show those portals. I thought it could be 64 bit issue but both Adobe and FMP are 64 bit versions AFAIK I could use a temporary print table but am trying to avoid this and quite simply just want to know why it's happening

Hi All, I want to get some feedback from members on the group. I have a client who desires to build a website where a user can log-in, have access to PDF forms, fill out the forms, sign the electronically, submit them and some how get that data back into FileMaker 14. Once the data is in the FileMaker 14 DB, if a FileMaker user want to PRINT or SEND via email, I could use the PDF Manipulator plug-in to populate a template PDF and produce the output. I apologize in advance if this has been answered already and/or there is a better place for this question. We recently updated from FMS11/FMP11 to FMS14/FMP14. All client machines are running Windows 7. Since upgrading to 14, we now have an issue where the preview is cutting off some characters/words and causing strange line wraps. However, the errors are not present in either Browse mode or in the final output (either print or PDF). I have attached a PDF which shows 1) how it looks in Browse, 2) how it looks in Preview with the problems circled, and 3) how looks on the output. Hi, I'm just exported a layout to a pdf so that the information can be sent to a colleague. Although the items have been placed within the layout within pages, once the script runs to conver the layout to pdf it seems to shift everything down. I've removed headers and footers and only have one Title Header on the layout which has helped but even with these removed it is still happening. Is there a setting or something I need to change? We all know there is a limitation in outputting PDFs as a server-side operation. it has to do with the server not having head. John Renfrew presented a possible solution at Pause on Error this past October in Portland. I believe his solution made use of the iText library and some sexy PHP. Recently I've had an issue where PDF's generated from FileMaker take a very long time to print (20 minutes) and the dialogue box says they are "flattening". The internet seems to think this has something to do with transparencies in the PDF but I cannot figure out what is causing it and why it happens with some PDFs but not others. At first I thought it was caused by having a corner radius but that wasn't it. Anybody else see this behavior or know what causes it? -- Dan White

I am unable to save as PDF in ANY File that I open.  Even like when I use a Starter Solution file like Contact or anything else.  I get the following error message: â��test.pdfâ�� could not be created on this disk.  Use a different name, make more room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk."  I can do a Save as Excel without a problem. I can do a Save a Copy as of the file without a problem.    I have FM 12 installed on the same computer and I can save in PDF there without a problem! so the issue does seem to be relating strictly to FM 13.  I am running this on a Macbook Pro.  OS X 10.9.2.  Plenty of space and 16 GB of RAM!  The only pr…

Hi, I've recently updated from FM9 to FM13 and since I did this I've noticed the automatic page numbering on my PDF reports looks like this: "Page 1.00" instead of "Page 1". I am trying to help a non-profit agency go paperless, but have run up against a wall because I can't seem to find a way to "sign" a PDF while staying inside FileMaker. We recently started working with FM13, when saving our offers as pdf we get following error in Adobe Acrobat XI (I translated it because it appears in Dutch): "Due to an error on the pagemight not display correctly in Acrobat. Please contact the creator of the PDF-document to resolve the problem" Some images and text don't display. They're on the page but just won't show. I have been using Filemaker solutions for over ten years for my business. One of the most important functions has been assembling a coverage quote to be sent to our clients. It is made up of several pages with static and merge field text, all overlaid on beautiful graphics. The pages are saved as PDFs, and then combined through a plug in with a second document that comes from our carrier. My problem is this. Those saved documents used to be a little under 2 MB total. Hi, I have a client who ask me if I knew anything about creating a Fillable Word Doc. I suggested "Filemaker" ?? And they said "Sure, send the form" and "Now does this mean that all of our client have to have a copy of Filemaker" ?? So, my questions is this. We need a script that will print a multipage PDF within a printing sequence from filemaker pro. We use a filemaker PRO database that is rough around the edges but general works for our processes. We are trying to automate some workflows but continue to run into gaping glitches that have stumped us and held back our productivity with this application. Filemaker crashes on one of the computers in our office every time we run save as PDF. We've followed the troubleshooting steps on the FM website (throwing out the plist, a test user account). We've also reinstalled adobe. However, the problem remains. I'm wondering if any of you out there have any experience with this issue and have recommendations for a fix. We're using FM pro 12. I am trying to print a PDF report from my file, and it is having strange abnormalities. It looks similar to when you have 0.5pt dimensions, and the lines are blurry like that - appears kind of bold, but not sharp. This problem doesn't occur on every page however, only some. I am on Windows 7, with FMP 13. I have not tested creating the report on Mac or opening the file created in Windows on Mac, as I do not have one readily available at the moment. I saw some reports saying that windows had a few issues like this, any ideas?

Hi, Today I needed to create a PDF of a number of records. The layout for each record was three pages long. The layout contained a title header (of course on the first page). When I saved as PDF, records being browsed, all pages, fm made the PDF as if the records were displayed in List View. In other words the header appeared on only the first record and subsequent records showed no header. This doesn't seem right. The layout to be printed was set to Form View. The main problem is that although the layout is designed to print well (3 pages = 3 pages) when printing a single record, when saving multiple records to PDF the page breaks get messy after the first record…

Lately I added the option of generating a pdf file on the user's desktop. It works fine for FileMaker Pro users but it does not work for Runtime solutions. Actually, nothing happens. Is this some kind of limitation or simply a bug with the Runtime solution? By the way it was generated with Pro 12.

Hi, I'm trying to design a report that shows the current status of our projects. The database has a table for Projects, and a separate table for Status updates, where Projects and Status updates are related one to many. On my report, I want to show the Project details as well as the most recently dated status record related to the project. I tried using a portal on my report, set to sort by date in decreasing order and showing only 1 portal row; but I wanted to use Shrink to Fit, which doesn't seem to work on portals. When running the script "print to pdf" from a button I get the massage ""XXX.pdf" could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, make room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk". This worked OK until a couple of moths ago. OS Windows 7 64 bit, FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced 12.0v3, the disk is not locked and has 168GB free space. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Hello, At the moment I have a nice FM file running on my little MacMini server. When i want to connect to it using the sharing function from a different computer, I want to use the script to create a pdf from a layout. Storing it in a special folder on th server. When I tested it on the local machine I used the save string : file:<directory>/<filename.pdf> And that works good. But how do I do it when I want to save the pdf on the server itself. I'm already generating PDF reports, but they want to be able to save reports as Word files. I can possibly use RTF but there are some tables in the reports I would need to emulate. Is there an "easy" way to generate the reports to editable word files?

Every time I run any script with the save as PDF option, FM 12 Crashes and I have no result from my script. A friend sent me a note saying to delete the AdobeFnt.1st file but I cannot find it anywhere...... any advice?

I want to save repeating fields to separate columns in an Excel file. When I use the script step Save as Excel, the repeating fields for each record are all concatenated together in one column. Is there any way to get them to save to different columns? Or do I have to create a layout, with a separate entry on the layout for each of the repeating fields? (A lot of work, but doable if I must!) Sorry, I could't find a category in FMForums for Excel Files, only PDFs.

We have a script which creates a PDF. Nothing fancy, go to layout, Save Records as PDF. However, if the PDF is generated from the Windows platform the document opens as SECURED in Adobe Reader and content cannot be copied (e.g. text) whereas the same script run from the Mac works fine. Strangely if you use a different application to open the PDF (to Adobe Reader) then copying is available. Has anyone else encountered this? Done lots of testing between platforms and PDF applications. The Save Records as PDF script step has no security settings, very basic. Also tried all different compatibility versions. It happened the same day we updated the 12.0v4, but I can't be sure it's related. FM support says it's not an issue, only my problem. When I Save as PDF now, all the PDFs are saved almost as an image, and not searchable or selectable text. The problem is, we upload the PDFs to a service that uses the text tags, so no our entire system has ground to a halt. I can't figure out how to make it go back to saving a PDF that has text rather than an image. Anyone else have this issue or know of a possible solution? Thank you!

Hi, I only found one post, but not very helpful. I'm exporting my pdfs to the temporary folder. Everything is great except when I export again. Since I'm using the same NAME the append just adds to the existing .pdf within the temporary folder - Yikes!!! I was hoping once the script was finished that was it, but after remembering where the Temp Folder is ... HOW can I REPLACE the pdf file I put there instead of append it. All I can think of at this moment is either push the pdf into a container; since the pdf won't change that often. Good day, I have a problem while exporting to PDF, I have a databse with arabic and english text, I have a script that exports each record to a PDF with a specified field as file name, the problem is the arabic text will not show on PDF, it shows on print but not on the PDF, tried changing the font with minimal results, the numbers in arabic do not have comma and arabic and english text wont appear mix in one field, I import data from excel with arabic and english text mix but it does not produce PDF correctly in filemaker

I'm using a variable called $Invoice_Number with the value MAS_Invoices::Invoice_No & ".pdf", and this works well enough, but... I would like to add a second field to the file name, MAS_Invoices::Invoice_Date, but I can't figure out the syntax. The Invoice_Number should precede the Invoice_Date. Thanks for your time and help. Hi, Am trying to establish if it is possible to output from an FM DB for publishing in InDesign. The process for transferring into InDesign involves converting to a CSV. The DB has pics as refs and text with line breaks. Both of which are causing problems. The line breaks are interpretted as separations and as such they are seen as new fields and the pics aren't displayed, only the filename is recorded in the field. Also one of the text field, that has a large amount of text in it, is just displayed as ######. Any tips on parsing the text so its readable and keeps the line breaks but stays in the same field? Hi, For the last 3 years, I've been using "Save as PDF" to create pdf on filemaker. However, I've always noticed the size if these files are quite big. However, if I go for "Print to PDF", the file is significantly reduced while keeping the same quality (images and content). The only problem is that I need to manually input the file name and the directory to save that pdf. Is there a way of making that process automatic. Does anyone have experience creating 4-color press quality PDFs from a Filemaker layout? We have automated our Christmas Card Printing website and Filemaker so that when an order comes in from the website it is imported into Filemaker and the Card is created in a Filemaker layout automatically. Only trouble is, when we print to PDF in FM. it looks like hell. We put Adobe Acrobat XI on the machine, and when we print to Adobe PDF with the Adobe PDF Printer settings set for press quality, the resulting PDF cannot be opened by the press computer(errors). I generate a pdf with appropriate hyperlinks that work fine on Windows in Adobe Reader. However, when I try this on Mac with Preview the links do not work. I've done some research and this seems to be a known issue, but I am wondering how people deal with this?

So Open with Bookmarks is an option when you Save as PDF. Is there a way to populate bookmarks from a field in the header? If you cannot populate the bookmarks, why would you set it to open with bookmarks panel?

Hi All, I hope this day finds you all well We just upgraded to Filemaker 12 Windows Server 2003. My databases survived with some wounds. Most of the fields that are check box lists get cut-off when printed or saved as a PDF. My first thought is drivers are not updated but the save as PDF makes no sense as Adobe is updated. I have checked the layouts to make sure shifting and space weren't an issue. Any thoughts?

I was wondering why my pdfs looked so tall, and so looking in the pdfs' Document Properties, it says that the page size is: 8.50" x 14.00" I've tried to find a place in the various dialog boxes for options to dictate the size, but can't find any. Hello All, I'm trying to find a way to create a pdf, and naming the file so that it reflects the information in each PDF. More specifically, I am creating Estimates, and I would like the file name to have the date of Estimate and/or the Client Name. But I see no option to "calculate" the output file name for each unique Estimate (although I see the options to calculate the Authour, Title, Subject, etc). I don't know if I am missing something here. I can't seem to find a way to do this. Or is there a work around? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I need to output a lot of 6-month reports and email them off to various people. The script works under WIndowsXP, creating a PDF from one table/layout, then appending new pages to that same PDF from other tables in the same database. When I move the script to OSX, however, the initial PDF created using SaveRecordAsPDF is created with permissions set to R/W for me, but to read-only for Staff and Everyone, (apparently) making it impossible for the following script steps to append new pages to the PDF. I add 10-15 photos in each record, and then I print a "Flyer" as a PDF and send it to clients. The problem is, the photos i'm given are typically large, so my PDF when printed is between 1 and 2 megabytes. I was hoping there would be an easier way to scale down the images, rather than doing it manually. One the flyer, they are roughly 1 inch square, I put up to 15 on a page. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Hello all professionals, i have a fm database with few houndreds names. I want to distribute them .pdf file personalized with watermark (client name as watermark). Is there a way how to do this in filemaker? I tried: - Container (global) field and insert PDF as an object and create Layout where whole (mutli-page) PDF will display, than make a layer with "name" on top of it and print it. But this sollution shows only first page of PDF. The best way for me is whatever sollution where I don´t have to install anything (plugin) to client FM. I didn´t find any commercial plugin either. Since our company is going digital, we will need to store and view/print our customers multiple page .pdf policy. Is the best way to do this to just make a container and drag the files to the container? Or is there a trick I'm missing?

Currently I print encounter sheets with FMP using the Print step. It works great, but we are now going paperless, and want to print PDFs instead. I can select Print to PDF in OSX, but it save using the same filename each time. Is there a way to automate the filename, such as using client name and date?

Goal: find a way to email order confirmations to customers so they can sign and approve the confirmation. My idea was to send an editable pdf with a check mark and spot to write their name. I currently send emails with an attached .pdf (non editable). Customers just respond the the emial, however lately I have had people responding without even realizing there is an attached email. We designed a website for a company and here is their story They called me and sent a .pdf doc. They get 3 or 4 emails every day and each email has .pdf doc with 10 pages. They wanted to open the first email, wanted to just take out 3 pages from that pdf file and save somewhere. Then from the second email, they will again get 3 pages from tot 10 and save some where. Hello all, I have a report that is attached. The report is for total membership of a group. It is broken down by Region, then by Chapter, with totals. Everything works except for the total members for each region. It works if the region happens to have only one chapter, but when the the region has more than one chapter the total does not work. The grand total works. The lower chapter sub-summary is sorted by chapter and the lower region sub-summary is sorted by the region, just like the upper ones.
