When opening up FMP 14 after installation I receive an empty dialog box with the title FileMaker Pro Trial, no body, and 4 buttons (Buy Now, Close, Enter License Key, and Try FileMaker Pro (try is greyed out)). The installer tells me that installation was complete but I can not get pass this dialog box, even after numerous installation attempts. I have a license key and a Trial email but both ways result in the same thing. If I try entering my license key at this point I receive another smaller empty dialog box with the FMP14 icon on the left. I'm running an older MacBook Pro with Yosemite and have enough Ram per the tech specs. I do have FMP 12 installed. Any thoughts…

I really only have one complaint when it comes to Filemaker, and seeing now that in version 14 it still has not been corrected is leading me to bring it up here. It's the coffee cup. The icon that appears when a database is under heavy load. The steam that is coming out of the cup is animated backwards. Rather than waves of steam starting at the cup and propagating upwards, the tips of the steam columns snake back and forth seeming to pull the lower part of the column along. This is not how steam works and appears unnatural. Go look for yourself. Perform a find on an unindexed calculation field or whatever you need to do to get the coffee cup. I work for a local government agency and my predecessor used FileMaker for many years prior to my arrival. I have hired a very capable developer to continue our use of the FileMaker platform. We are well down the road of usage and utilization, so far that coming up with an alternative might take a year. My concern, hence the reason for this topic, is that we are so deep into the FileMaker platform that FileMaker could choose seemingly any price and we would have to pay it. In my first renewal, after having purchased an annual site license the prior year, the increase in the same licensing is 20%! Does anyone else see this as an issue for the organization they represent?

Latest PMP 14.0.1 version on a Mac. I have this often with several DB'. When FMP is not running I open a DB by double clicking it (this also states FMP) and I see just the outline of the layout, no records nothing. This happens intermediately, not always. I have not been able to see a trend as to when it happens. However it seems to always be after a new start of the computer, but not always. In order to see the records I need to close the DB and reopen. For your information this happens since a long time, is not new to 14, I also had it in 13 and 12. Anybody any idea as to why this happens? Thanks.

I have created a script that calls an Applescript that talks to Keynote. Using Filemaker's Applescript calculation dialog, when I update the external applescript, Filemaker does not pick up the changes. I'm running 12.0 v5 Advanced. The trial version of FM14 exhibits the same behavior. I've tried renaming the external file, restarting the Applescript editor, restarting Filemaker, and restarting the machine. I have two identical tables only one of them has data inputted into it the other table has no user access. After a user has created a new record in Table A i want all of the data to be duplicated into Table B and just stored there. This is because Table A can later have individual records deleted and we need to keep a backup of all the data entered into Table A I did write and export script which exported the record from Table A to excel and then imported the excel file into Table B but this does not work very well over our network. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am running Filemaker 13 Advanced on two two computers and Filemaker 13 on a third. All of the computers are iMacs. All of the computers talk with each other via hosted database on a shared server. I would like to start exploring Filemaker 14 but cannot afford to have any one of these machines not in service. I have three questions: 1) Can the files I generate in FM 14 be accessed from the boxes that only have FM13 installed? 2) If I download the demo version will I still have access to the debugger tools? 3) If I decide FM14 is not yet ready for prime time can I convert back to FM13?

i want to import into filemaker from a text file which is a result of a http request. (in filemaker 11!) actually, what i get back from the http-request in a browser is a simple OK 1204888105 now, if i do this via filemakers script step “Import Records” and XML Data to be able to write a http request, i get the obvious error: XML parsing error: invalid document structure Line Number: 1 Column Number: 1 so i was wondering, if there is a possibility to write a XSL style sheet, that can help me grabbing this text into a record. a style sheet, that presents this short text to filemaker as XML data ? thanks for any thoughts ! klaus

I see that there is a 32-bit Windows version, but the listed system requirements show a minimum of Win7 SP1. Wasn't Windows XP the last 32-bit Windows OS? I'm curious to know if FM14 would install on XP, as my company has several machines which can't be upgraded past XP due to limitations of some legacy software. (Ugh.)

With the slight chance that someone else is experiencing the same issue... I installed FMPRO Adv 14 on my stable Windows 8.1 system a few days ago. It unfortunately has a consistent and huge issue - 1. it crashes immediately if I launch through standard launch mechanisms. I.E. immediately upon initial window opening. 2. Workaround is to doubleclick the local DB file to open, and it works fine and is stable. 3. If I then try to open a local or remote DB, (e.g. File -> Open -> ....) it crashes immediately after releasing mouse button on menu selection. Hi Folks, Im working on a quotation system for a manufacturing company .. Currently they receive drawings in both electronic and paper format .. these may have typed or hand written instructions on them regarding the bill of quantities which engineers would then read & type into the filemaker database creating the required quote for the customer. I'm new to FM. I working with FM PRo 12. I have a table called "Performance" that holds data from farmers activities. There are fields for task, actual time, Efficiency percentage, Reference Efficiency, Time Efficiency, and a Summary field for Time (used in the calculation of Efficiency percentage and Time Efficiency. Every activity has a portal for "Performance". The calculation are correct in the portal but not in the parent table. How do I correct this situation?

Hi All, I am using IIS 7 ,Filemaker 11 and PHP 5.2.17. I have installed IIS and Filemaker 11 server correctly and also for the default site added in the handler mapping section the correct path for the FM webpublishing PHP which is C:\Program Files (x86)\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Web Publishing\publishing-engine\php\php5isapi.dll. I just compiled my FM app in OSX :   Model Name:   iMac  Model Identifier:   iMac13,2  Processor Name:   Intel Core i7  Processor Speed:   3.4 GHz  Number of Processors:   1  Total Number of Cores:   4  L2 Cache (per Core):   256 KB  L3 Cache:   8 MB  Memory:   32 GB   After running a report, my custom menu turned totally grayed out.  I could not make any selection on any menu. Hi everybody: I have a product drop down list that shows all products for a certain supplier when making a new order. The list changes according to the supplier of the products. This is easily done by indicating who the supplier is in the products Table and making the appropriate relationship. Now, I want to shorten the list by eliminating obsolete products (I need to keep history, so I can't simply delete the obsoletes from the products table) The products table has a field which I can click when a product becomes obsolete. I have 20 computers set to shut down automatically each evening and reboot each morning. it isn't practical to manually do this 365 days a year. Th problem I'm running into is that when FM is running, it blocks this shut down process and puts the apple computer into a weird state where it is trying to shut down but fails. Is there a setting in FM or in FM server or in apple Os X Yosemite that will make FM quit first? Is there an apple script that any one knows that can be run on a timer to shut down FM Pro before the shut down sequence starts?

For some reason the hot key command for entering Layout mode (⌘L ), while available when I launch Filemaker, seems to disappear and is no longer available after a period of time. I can still enter Layout mode by accusing it under the View menu. Its just that the ⌘L is no longer on the menu. When working with this file on other computers this doesn't happen, which makes me think its not an issue with the file. Also, there are no custom menus at play. If I quit Filemaker and reopen it the ⌘L is functional for a period of time and then disappears. I can't seem to find a cause for it disappearing. Hello I am a Junior Developer, and a friend wanted to get something for his small business. Sometimes (this is the important part, because it seems like 80% of the time it works fine) Filemaker will prevent me from browsing directly to Layouts via the Layout dropdown available through the Toolbar interface.  I know there are no security settings preventing me from accessing these layouts as I've deliberately set them up to be navigable via this menu, however sometimes the folders and layouts will be greyed out.  This isn't a show stopping issue, more of a rather annoyance really, but has anybody seen similar behavior in Filemaker 13 and know what the problem is?   Edit: And now after restarting Filemaker it works...

I have a script that creates a PDF and then proceeds to append 4 other sections of a report to that PDF. It works great for the most part, but my client is crashing with some records. I can repeat the crashes they are experiencing. But never when I step through it with the Script Debugger! So purely at a hunch level I'm wondering if slowing the script down might resolve the problem. I'm not sure of the best way to do that. Thoughts, anyone? In the spirit of disclosure: the document includes SVG header and footer and some pages have 4 or 5 other graphics.

Yesterday I installed the latest FMPA on my MBP and restarted my machine. Great! No Allow Incoming CConnections nonsense. Then today I upgraded FMPA on my desktop machine running OS X 10.7.5 and restarted. The first thing that happened when I launched the program was the dreaded "Allow incoming . . . ." message. I'm hoping my question can have a happy ending. In the mid-90's, I purchased Filemaker 3. When Filemaker 5.5 Pro was released, I bought the update CD, which requires the user to either have FM 3 installed or to have the installation CD for FM 3. I've used it all these years, most recently with Windows XP Pro, and it has worked just fine. The databases I began with were long ago converted to FM Pro 5.5 databases. I'm still using FM Pro 5.5 on a laptop with WinXP Pro, but in 2013, I purchased a PC with Windows 8. I haven't been able to install FM 3 on it, therefore can't install FM Pro 5.5. I excitedly saw that 13.0v5 was just released, and it said that they were fixing the annoying "allow/deny incoming network connections" bug. I dutifully upgraded. Not only did the bug persist (!), but it introduced a new one -- for the database I access, I have the password saved to keychain, but it started asking me all the time to enter the password, and whether I wanted to save it to keychain. Hi, I have noticed that FM13 is backward compatible. I designed a test data base with FM13 and was able to open it in FM12. Is this deliberately built in because some clients may still be on FM12 but the designer is on FM13 Reason for this weird question is that I am testing out a 30-day free trial version of FM13. Given that according to the rumor mill, FM14 is due out soon, I don't want to pay for the costly upgrade to FM13. I am using a custom filemaker solution for medical office billing written with fp5 running on a mac with snow leopard. In addition, I have a patient management db (which I wrote) that is linked through pt. ID number to the billing program allowing transfer of some demographic information (name, DOB, etc). Other than being limited by hardware restrictions, the billing program serves our needs for now and upgrading to fp12 will take some time (and money). Mac OSX 10.9.5. Today i was messing around trying to get connected to a client's Server via the admin console - in banging around with that I updated Java. At some point I went back to do something else with my local copy of FMPA 12 and it wouldn't launch the app... when I click on it in the dock or the app folder itself the splash screen appears for a bit then goes away.... just like I had quit the app. I restarted the computer, did a single PRAM zap, reinstalled FMPA12, uninstalled Java... all to no avail. I haven't seen this discussed here (please correct me if I'm wrong). Since the latest update to FMP, every time myself or my assistant starts FMP, it asks if we want to accept incoming network connections, even though the Mac firewall is properly set to let FMP do this (on both Mavericks and Yosemite). That is, the normal workflow is it asks *once*, but it asks *always*. It appears that this is a known issue, but I'm wondering if anyone here has come up with a good workaround. I would appreciate advice on Best Practice for generating a Bill Of Materials for Products that include sub-assemblies. I have a Products Table, with records for products such as: - Cake - Buns - Trifle I have a Product Items Table with the ingredients of each product. Hi,  I am using Filemaker Pro 13 Advanced and when I put a custom URL in Webviewer, the pages don't load. The little "time" bar at the bottom of the page advances very slowly and then gets stuck.  Here's an example of a URL I want to load: http://www.Omron247.com  Here's what I have in the Webview box:  "LinkedIn Database MASTER 2015::url"  The problem occurs whether I have " " marks around "LinkedIn Database MASTER 2015::url" or not.  Not sure what the problem could be. Our research project has progressed to the point that we need to print part of all of our findings. We are using FMv13. and OS 10.10 recently upgraded. The printer is duplex. Depending on the use, sometimes we need part of the data Snd in that case the data fills two pages. The printer prints front/back then goes to the next record and sheet. No problem. Perfect in fact. Hi guys, thanks for the great forum - I have learned a great deal in the weeks since I have been using FM. Can I ask a couple on data access when a layout is opened please. It looks like the default position is for a layout to open and display the last entered record. Is there any control over this (i.e adding parameters like sql would). So only open recors where field x equals value z for example. Also I have a requirement to open a layout and display a record at random from any that are available in the table the layout is pointed to. Hi, I have a layout that looks great on an Ipad. There is a portal on my layout that is set to 3 rows and that makes my standard layout show exactly on the ipad without any scrolling. In 60% of cases, 3 rows will be enough, but it there any kind of override that will allow more rows to be added by the end user if they use the 3 available? Ideally i would see an add record button to allow rows to be added ad-infinitum. I find the portal a little alien, unless I am misinterpreting it slightly. Is it me or did Filemaker just take away several key commands from my Mac version of FilemakerPro? I've lost Cmd-L, Cmd-D, Cmd-N, etc. I use these all the time and my mousing arm is getting tired of pulling menus. I just updated to FMP 13.0v4 and these commands are now missing from the standard Filemaker Menu. I use no special menus. My Windows version of Filemaker seems unchanged. On a similar topic, does anyone know if Filemaker 12 will work with Yosemite? On the Filemaker site it says: FileMaker 12 and earlier versions of FileMaker have not been tested or certified with OS X Yosemite (10.10). I am finding that when I open a database in Mavericks, and FMP has to start up, all the layouts are greyed out and I cannot change layouts. If I then close the database and reopen without shutting down FMP, and reopen the database, all is fine. Any ideas?

Suddenly, after several years of use, FMP 6 won't open. (this happened on two not-connected computers). I get an error message "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other disk not available. Insert FMP 6 disk" When I insert the original disk, it still doesn't work. When I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, it still doesn't work. I also notice that there is no filemaker pro.exe file in the Filemaker Pro 6 directory. There are FM subdirectories and many .dll files, but no .exe Any ideas? And, if this is a dead end, what steps can I take to get my data? 1) would the data import with a newer version of FM? Hi guys, We recently upgraded our servers and clients to Filemaker Server13/Pro 12/13 and FM is practically unusable at times(far too often) where simply typing a character in a field takes 10 seconds. It is literally unusable in this state, especially since our users are accustomed to 11 which had it's own issues with slow scripts and finds, but never anything like this that makes it impossible to even work and causes entry errors all over the place while FM catches up with simple data entry. Hi: By mistake I installed FM11Pro using the same licence key on 2 machines Windows 7 and Windows XP (yes, I still use it and love it) I thought: no problem, I'll uninstall and reinstall on one of the machines. Surprise, it does not appear in Add/remove programs XP; Programs and features W7, so I have no clue on how to properly remove it. Right now I have 2 users who cannot use FM concurrently. A possible solution is to upgrade one machine with an extra licence of FMPA 11 that I have, but I find it strange to be unable to remove it. Any ideas? Thanks Carlos

I've been developing Filemaker solutions for years now. I started on the Windows platform, but for since FM7 have been almost exclusively developing for the Mac. An old client recently contacted me and asked if I would update their old FM6 solution to FM13 and also put the solution on their ipads. It was quite a job! Good morning all. I have an interesting problem I was hoping to get some direction on. I have a fixed list of addresses. I was hoping using something such as Google Maps, I could find a way for Filemaker to parse/extrapolate the driving distance between Address1 and Addresses 2,3,4,5. I have a friend who has just switched from a PC to a new MacBook. We are having trouble transferring files between us. When ever I send her an updated FileMaker Pro file, or whenever she returns it to me, the name changes, and it requires several steps to get it to open - like this: 1. Hi all and thanks for looking, I've got a container field to which I drag & drop references to PDF files as a sort of library within the database solution. It is formatted as: -reduce or enlarge image to fit -maintain original proportions ON -Interactive content The referenced PDF files are stored on the same remote machine as the .fmp12 file. The problem is sporadic crashing of acrobat within the container field. Either when dropping a new PDF file into the container or when trying to view one in the container. I made a video to explain the behavior. Basically, throughout the script the cursor is in the right place (the end) and then... it just jumps to the beginning as soon as the script exits. OK, this one is totally bizarre. In layout mode, using the color palette, both with rgb & hsb sliders, whenever I type in a number and then tab or click to the next available color field, the number I had just previously typed in mysteriously changes to some random number. No matter how many times I try to correct the number, it won't stay the correct number. So, after sheer frustration, I simply started to press the enter key while the cursor was in one of the color fields. I already have a serial code that a colleague gave me, but when I try and upgrade on the trail scheme, it says I can't upgrade to the 'Advanced' version, via the current trial version. Is Filemaker the product that I need to create an application managing a stock of many thousands (up to 100,000 lines) of articles with many thousands of sales (100,000) in a year. Stock reports would have to be run on a basis of todays stock but also looking into past stock levels on a particular date. Hi - I recently upgraded to FMP Adv 13, and immediately installed the most recent update. I open a file that was converted from previous format (last used in FMP11). Conversion went fine, seems to work fine, no issues other than very minor graphics tweaks. However, a couple of minutes AFTER I open the file, I get an error message that FM can't find/open the file that I have open. It then locks up and I have to end task. Any thoughts? I'm not running any scripts - in fact, both times it happened, I was just looking through scripts in script manager. Thanks, Michael

I have a report layout (see attached) that has two columns (far right) that I would like to have summed. e.g "1" under the first of the right side columns and "4" for the farthest right column. I cannot see how I can go about doing this as the raw list will consist of multiple occurrences of the same customers (hence the need for a sub-summary layout). Could use some help hunting this down. I have a relational database with one table containing 3 primary data fields to find records including a status which is Pending, Active or Complete. The other selection fields are Activity, Project type, Program type. When the found set selection is status is Pending and Program type is Emergency Repair, a phantom record is created which I can delete. If I add the Project type to the find, no phantom. I upgraded to FMP13 recently, and most things work fine. When I ran my billing renumeration, a severe issue arose. I spent 2 hours narrowing it down to the following issue, which I presume is a bug in FMP13: Please see the attached file and use FMP13 Advanced Debuging $text is set to the content of the field 'text' $Excerpt is set to the field 'Text Excerpt', which is a calculation field based on the field 'text' when $Excerpt is defined, $text changes!!! I cannot figure out what is the issue. This did not happen with FMP11. Well I made the jump from v11 to v13 last week and am really just now getting into setting up a new file from scratch instead of converting an old one. SSSssssssssssssoooooooooooooo ... this has to be something obvious and I've searched for 2 hrs now .... but the question is : What happened to the Disable/Enable button for a script step in the Edit Script view ?? I have an odd problem that I cannot figure out. I am running FM 13 over a LAN and also remotely from another location. The problem is that I have a container field that I set to the path of a pdf to display the pdf. It works well locally but it crashes FM when used remotely. It doesn't do it immediately, allowing me to set the field several times. It usually crashes on the third attempt. Re-starting FM allows me to repeat this process, again crashing on the third attempt. It is not my computer as it occurs with other computers. It generates several pages of a crash report which is interpretable to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Joseph

Hello, I manage a warehouse and created a database that maps all the pallet locations in the storage racks (about 400 uniquely named locations). I created a field for each location and each field has the same name as the location (ie: PR.001.A.01). The 400 unique fields are in 1 table named(Specific_Rack_Locations) and reside in 50 different layouts. There is only 1 record for this table.
