I just upgraded our FM Server and four workstations to FM 16 Server and FileMaker 16 User. I have been using FM15 User to update a solution in every way, including layout design since June 2016. The only function I could have used from Advanced was commenting out script lines, but I lived with it. FM16 User appears to have removed Fill Color and a few other selections when I right click on an object in layout mode. Is this correct? Or have they just moved that somewhere else? Or is this a way of telling us they don't want Users doing too much design work, so get a copy of Advanced?

i made a table with one text field and 10 container fileds and made 260 records , now i am duplicating the same table nine more times so fields are duplicated not the records question is - i want the other 9 tables container to be filled with table 1 container graphics which i can do manually but very hard time taking pain process is there any easy method to make 9 table container fields to be filled with table 1 graphics as we cant export and import containers like text fields to .xlsx please

Hi FileMaker people, I used to use FileMaker on a Mac, but have recently switched to a Windows 10 computer. I was developing a database on the Mac, but since moving to PC I'm getting a lot of horizontal lines, blurred text and broken borders, images and buttons as I scroll. I've attached three screenshots as examples - these are happening on most layouts, most of the time. The solution is hosted remotely on a Windows 2012 server. I didn't have these problems when I used a Mac, and I've looked at it on a coworker's Mac over the same internet connection and the problem didn't occur. I have a fire department incident report layout which has a portal on it to capture pictures of an incident. After the photo is taken you see a thumbnail of it on the incident report portal. I have a separate layout with mostly the same info which is used to print the incident report if needed. I an wondering how to attach those photos to that "print" layout if there are photos taken at the scene but not have lots of blank pages with empty container fields if there were no photos taken? There is one print layout I'm having trouble recreating. There are a number of data fields the realtors fill out...some get filled in, other times some don't. In addition it needs to print the name of the data field then the data itself, so for instance "Construction Stick Built". We use our database to track purchase orders that come into our office and are then sent to vendors. The "Product Catalog" table uses a UPC as the primary key which is linked to the "Purchase Order" table. Users create a PO and enter the UPC which then populates item description, price, etc. They then enter how much of each item is ordered. Majority of our products have unique UPCs which work perfectly as the field is set to require a unique value. However, there are a few instances where we sell a branded item to multiple customers, meaning I need to somehow differentiate the UPC between each customer. I am designing a database for the inspection sheets used in our quality lab. Each of our parts has a different number of criteria that they need to be inspected for. This ranges anywhere from 5-15 dimensional requirements. I am wondering if there is anyway in FileMaker to display a varying number of both editable and uneditable fields. So for instance if somebody pulls an inspection sheet for a part with 6 different dimensional requirements, FileMaker will only show 6 uneditable fields describing the dimensions in question, and 6 editable fields for the user to type in their measurement. Fairly new to Filemaker here and currently working with an old Filemaker 10 database. I can give more details as requested; the basic issue is this (pictures attached): We have a module called "CAPA Log". In this module users create new records and input text related to those new records. However, there is one field that is not user generated, "CAPA Number". In this module I click on a button titled "Outstanding CAPAs" . This buttons purpose is to show a list of records that do not have a "Closing Date" entered. Hello, I am not sure if this is a tip, or if it is already known. Anyway it has a practical value for me so I thought I post it. Sometimes I need to present data in a layout with several sub-summary parts and usually no body parts I find it good interface, to give the user the ability to click on the only visible sub-summary part and reveal the next part in the hierarchy, and so on... Thus expanding and collapsing the list by clicking on the headers. From what I read in the forums the standard technique for this is to have a global variable to store whether part X is expanded or not. I don't like that method very muc…

FM 15 Adv. I have a file that on startup displays the message "FM cannot share a file because FM network sharing is turned off". I don't want to use file sharing with this file. How can I stop this message from appearing?

I'm trying to hide a tab from all but the following users, Matt, Haley and Kristen. I'm trying to use the hide object when- (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "matt") or (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "haley") or (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "kristen") but its not showing even to me at the moment. Hello everyone i know this an already answer question but the result is not what I was expecting. I do a job for a client where he got some long printing report. 2 or 3 or more page Invoices. I search a way to restrict the footer to be printed only on the last page. I currently partially achieve that by hiding the footer if it's not the last page. The issue whith that is that I got a blank part a the bottom of each first page. The footer print well on the last page but that blank footer région on first page are ugly. I hope someone could help me as I think this a common request in all database tool reporting. …

I need a layout with larger number of text fields which may have long words .. currently words are being split randomly and overflowing into new lines .. eg .. for the word 'accordingly'; 'accordingl' comes on the first line and 'ly' comes on the second line. Is there a way that filemaker can hyphenate large words and insert breaks so that it breaks in a more clean manner ?

I've got what I think is a tricky question for ya all My FileMaker app has an unfiltered portal with a field I have named "Counter" (please see image) I wish for this Counter field to somehow number all the rows in my portal and be flexible enough that if I insert a row (I hope to find a way to do that, too) then all the portal row's "Counter" value will increase by one to make room for the newly inserted portal row, and the opposite, of course, if a portal row is deleted, then all the subsequent numbers will decrease by 1. I've read through the previous posts on things not sliding left properly and I've tried all of the known fixes, and I'm still stumped. Here's my problem: I'm trying to get a mailing label layout to display a comma and then any suffix that may follow a person's name (such as Ph.D, PE, MSCE, etc.), but if there is no suffix, then I do not want the comma to display. We've noticed recently an odd behaviour that we don't recall seeing prior to v15.0.3. Tested on Mac Sierra with FMA v15.0.3. On Win10 with v15.0.2 this doesn't happen, When switching from a list layout to a form layout, the form layout that s being loaded is very briefly loaded in the body part of the list layout before the layout is refreshed and loaded normally. We've been able to reproduce this in various older apps (no change to the app). We've found a temporary solution to prevent the 'flicker' from showing by entering find mode, then switching layout and then going back to browse mode. Has anyone else encountered this?

I have searched the forums, but haven't found an answer to this. I have a file with two tables, received and shipped. Have successfully created a report by month with total received and total shipped and the difference between the two. What I would like to do and cannot figure out is to have another field which keeps a running Balance on Hand as illustrated below. I have to create many layouts in our main database using formatted static text mixed with merge fields. Attached is an example of what three sections of this text might look like. The dollar amounts are merge fields which display data that is calculated based on selections made elsewhere within each record. I use merge fields to make the surrounding text move based on how many characters are in the merge field data. A DBMS that we're working on deals with routing trucks. In the body of the report each record represents a stop for a truck. There is a calculation field there that returns the number of packages to be offloaded on that stop. The body part is followed by two sub summaries. The first summarizes by route and a summary field positioned there returns the number of packages that will be put off that truck on all of the stops on the route. The second sub summary part is by date. In layout mode, footer line will move up just so far manually, leaving about a 0.75 inch gap to fields and labels. Above - only fields, field labels and three words near top of body. I looked for a stray period or small entry, but did not find. Any ideas? FileMaker 15, OSX 10.11 cj

I am trying to apply padding to a checkbox field so the slightly rounded border isn't touching the checkbox elements. Â I used FMP 12 Format/Layout/Line Spacing and put in 10 points on the left, to see if I could notice some padding effect. No luck. Am I missing something obvious? So, here's something I've lived with forever and I'm finally asking for help! Can you set a default date format? I'd like all my date fields to display as mm/dd/yy. However, I find that I must use the Inspector's Date Format to do so and I cannot see how to make that the default format. Anyone?

I've a field name «Type», that tells which kind of wine it is. I've followed the set up describe up here (3 colored graphics for 3 differents wines), but when I run Filemaker, all the graphics turn out reds, not following the wine types. I'm stuck. Any help? Hi from a relative newbie, I have a FMP 13 file that works fine on some computers (both Windows and Mac) but on one Mac computer it works only partially. Several of the layouts work fine, but one layout is "frozen" and does not permit entry in any of the fields. Is there something in the Mac OS that could "lock out" a particular layout, but leave all others normally functional? Should I re-install FMP 13? (I'm not sure how to do that on a Mac. I'm mostly a Windows worker.) Any help or insight would be welcome. Thanks, Tom

Hi! I'm planning a job schedule application. There is about 36 different "work stations" or "positions" each day (the left side in a picture) and the dates are in top (Monday to Sunday) In every shift or position there is usually only one person, but occasionally there can be several in one duty (up to 10). I cannot figure out how this can be shown in a listing. If I reserve extra space for possible extra person to each field, the whole list would become a mile long. I have been thinking of repeating fields but it would not solve this problem. Any ideas?

Here is part of my form, Education Hobbies extracurricular activities The users sometimes may skip one of the part in the form and leave it blank, they would like to clean up the form. When I click on a layout table field, related fields and portal row fields turn gray and remain that way until I click in a clear area. The related field outlines show as dotted. The theme is “Classic” although I don’t think this is the cause. What could be causing this?

Hello All, We are using the Invoice starter solution as our database for entering our PO's in the Payment info Popover, I want to modified to suit our needs. I want to put the "All items received" and "Forwarded to Accounting" in the radio Button selection. What I want is, If I select "Forwarded to Accounting" I don't want to see the word "Paid", I want to see only "Forwarded to Accounting" and the date or "All items received" and the date. LS, All of a sudden the saveAsPdf script step produces this ( see picture ) result. It is an invoice, with almost all data screwed up. It looks like all letters were printed in the same column in stead of from left to right. To make things more complex, not all invoices print like this although they are using the same layout to print from. When I print to preview ( mac ) and the use the save as pdf options the invoice comes out great. How can this be ?

I'm trying to get Filemaker to print the text from one record, then the text from the next record,then a third, etc... I have the field resizing ok I think. I am fairly certain I can't do what I'd like in a native table view layout but thought I'd ask to clarify. What I am looking for a table view layout which will grow both vertically and horizontally based on data available. I can get the vertical growth no problem, however, horizontal is the trick. This may seem like a strange request, but I am wanting to know if anyone has a handy way of being able to tell when a layout was last used? I ask this as I would like to delete some layouts that are no longer used but i don't want to do this if my users still need them, there have been a lot of requests for layouts showing information that I am sure are no longer needed / or haven't been used for a while.

I'm going nuts here -- I've got a really simple Title header for a report. All that's in there is a single Text box with two merge fields in it. I have it set to 'Sliding Up based on all objects above, and have checked the box that says "Also resize enclosing part." I've made sure nothing is overlapping the division between the Title Header and body parts. But in preview the text box is closing up properly but the 'Enclosing Part' isn't resizing to take up the excess empty space created by the Text box. My solution for grad student to upload information about their summer internship, including a PDF file from their employer, is not working well this year. Last year, we were on FilemakerServer 13 and I built the student-facing layouts for WebDirect. The staff side of the database was accessed through FilemakerPro 13. The container field does not store its data externally, but rather internally to the db file. This year, we've upgraded to FMS 14, FMP 14, and, of course, the world has gotten wary of PDF files. Ok here is my problem. I have created a summary report that pulls together weekly reports for projects under a specific office of work. SO each report generated could be specific to a set area. In the report layout i set it up with a title header for the cover sheet, a sub summary section which shows each sub- group, a sub summary section that has all the project specific text and report, and then the body which has pictures and captions for the project. HELP! I am trying to get my FM layout to have a self aware object. The object is named appropriately and the object (For example, a portal) would then use the name to filter with some form of get(name) method. Can this be done? In theory i want singular row portals with the name "Portal 1" to be copy an pasted. When pasting FM will automatically name this "Portal 2" (3,4,5,6 and so on). The filter will then use a "RightValue(Get(Name))" to filter down on this number. CAN THIS BE DONE? I am racking my brains trying to figure a way of doing this and making this layout dynamic >_<

This is getting frustrating: About ten percent of the time I open a file, all of the layouts are displaying in a font named [email protected] or, less commonly, [email protected]. If I close and reopen the file a number of times, the problem will sometimes self-correct and show the normal fonts (I only use Arial, Calibri, and Times New Roman), but sometimes I have to go through every layout and reset the fonts. I can't figure out how to set the grid for my layouts. Major grid spacing and minor steps? Are there any good general rules to follow? Should the spacing be a function of the font size I want to use?

I am trying to use FMPA13 on my 13 MacBookPro to read a text field and time it inserting the resulting time in a specific field I import the text files from a folder. Each text file has a dffret lenght, My screen is small and certain pages are too large to appear in the text field a I created Is there a way to force the import of a single text file splitting if necessary in a double or even triple column while keeping it with the same field name?

I am new to using the Label layouts. I hoped it would make it easier, but at the moment I feel like I am missing out on certain functionality. I wanted to be able to print either 1 label.. or a series of labels in a found set..(List format) Or mainly, say I want 100 labels on one page of the same record. So far the only way to do this, seems to be to create a layout from scratch to force it. Does anyone know anything about the label printing capabilities in FMP pro advanced 10? know of a tutorial? The operator fills in a field for each record a number between 1-30 That a number represents A Available Unprinted Avery Label.. on a sheet of Avery 3x10 down the sheet mailing labels If operator fills in a field with a number between 1-30, ie 3 and press print... Looking for a way to manage/restrict access to the "Modify Table View" option. Currently, AFAIK, if Table View is enabled for a given layout, any user who has access to that layout can modify the table view. To me, this seems like sort of a bug. I.E., if I have a privilege set that that restricts layout modification, but Table View is enabled, a user can still modify that layout while in Table View. Is that correct? I don't often give users access to Table View, but in this case I have report-style layouts that are set up in Table View for admins so that they can manipulate "columns" on the fly in order to generate custom reports on their own (a la Excel). I would like to replicate this Excel cash flow statement in Filemaker. Looking for some ideas on how to go about this. I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be. Should I place multiple portals in a list view form or is this all doable with a sub-summary report? The line items would not necessarily be the same for every account, in some cases there would be less or more items. Ideally I would like to collapse the various sections.

Hello, I have a centered text field (actually a merge field <<name>>) and would like to add an image right after the name but only for certain situations. The objective is to show an icon after a name if that person is new. I can add an image to the layout and do a "Hide Object When", but that makes the image location static. I tried creating a container field and then merging the two, but it doesn't show the image in the container field (ie. <<name>><<main::image>>). Another option is to make the merge field left aligned and then add the image directly to the left, but I kind of like having the text field centered on the layout. I…

I have a layout that crashes every time we try to open it, but only the first time of the day. If we open it once and allow it to crash, then open Filemaker again, usually on either the second or third try, the layout opens fine, and works well the rest of the day, unless we shut down FM and restart. This seems VERY odd to me - any ideas? Don't really have any idea where to begin to troubleshoot this one. I do get error messages on windows event viewer - but I cannot decipher the language. Last night, I was adding some data, from SQL Server, which is broken down by line-items. It can get pretty long, into 300-400 byte range. Longer at times. A Notes List mostly. I went to add a Horizontal Scroll Bar to the Text Field &...nada. Am I missing something or do we honestly not have an option for Horizontal Scrolling for Text Fields in FM 14? Hi Does anyone know a function which will convert all fields on a layout belonging to a different table to the same-named fields in the native table? For instance, a set of 6 Address fields. The first image below shows fields copied from a layout of Table X and pasted into a layout of Table Y. I have a set of accounts, each account has an activities plan with 12 or so line items, activities, with dates associated with each activity. Just upgraded to Filemaker 14 from 11. Windows users insist that they used to be able to copy text from a website or email and paste it into a field and the field would impose it's attributes on the text. So for example a blue coloured and underline email address would become black text with now underlining. They say this 'feature' has disappeared in FM 14 and now the text retains the formatting from the source. My experience is that it always retained the formatting of the source but many co-workers insist that they used to be able to paste in Windows and the text would take on the fields font attributes. Hello everyone, My company uses File Maker to keep a record of customers' addresses. When looking at a given customer, I would like to be able to copy the whole address block (as displayed on screen) to be able to paste it somewhere else (for instance, in an email, or on a Word document). You can't do this from the layout for data entry, but we have another layout showing the address block as a succession of merge fields (see screen shot). Hi, I'm having some difficulties with my invoice-system. When having multiple pages on print, I want to have my Trailing Grand Summary on a fixed spot. (not trailing) Is there a possibility to have this result? If I would place my fields in the footer, they will show on every page, what is not the intention. Good evening everybody, I am creating an invoice system with 2 tables: the 1st one contains the product lines that are sold and the 2nd one includes the invoices. Both tables are related. Anyway, I created a layout to print the invoices that has a header for each invoice, a portal where are shown only associated products with each one and footer with the final amount (with VAT included and not). I am working with an existing database file and I am getting reacquainted with filemaker pro after being out of it for the 10 years. I cannot remember and have tried to figure out what the following field? indicates. I know it is from the projects file and it appears like this in a separate file. Hi, Not sure if this is the right forum ... I have a client who needs to edit a form letter every now and then. Though I've placed this form letter on the layout itself with merge fields which work great when we print this layout ... however, the form letter is not editable. I've watched Michael Rocharde blog on "YouTube" how he creates this letter by typing into a field and then he inserts these merge fields by clicking on a button . So what I did was copy my layout letter with the merge fields and pasted it into my test fields. Hi All, This is more of a theory question than a "help me with my problem" question. We have a number of small databases that we use to generate forms of various types. In most cases these forms are controlled documents. So, for instance, we have an official "Product Approval" form in Filemaker. In that form, a user can fill out the customer name, part number, date, etc... to request the customer's approval of a product. It has certain wording on it in sentences and paragraphs. I need to be able to enter a "soft return" (aka "line break" or "newline character") to force text to a new line without invoking the Line Spacing settings that control paragraphs separated by "hard returns" - like you get when you hit the Return key. I just updated to FileMaker 14. I have thousands of records with container fields where I used "insert Quicktime" to link audio files. This latest version has removed that option. So I learned I need to make the container fields interactive. I did this properly, and now the audio is playing. However, the Quicktime controls are gone. I can't move a playhead around, fast forward, rewind, or much of anything. The only options I have are Play/Pause and Volume. Is there any way to fix this so I can have more controls? I have a layout with a summary report, the report breaks on the Category field. The layout resorts whenever the Category changes in a record. I would like the focus to stay on the record that had the Category change, instead of going to the top of the layout.

I am designing a layout for print, and I need to see the page margins in the layout design. The problem is that the option is grayed out in my menu under View > Page Margins. This seems like it should be super easy, but I'm running into a speed bump. I am creating a simple project tracker using the Starter Solution 'Project.' (FM12) While in project details, I cannot get it to sort by the Due Date. If I go to the 'Sort' function, and do an ascending sort by verbose due date, it remains in an descending sort.

First, I have a tab control with 3 tabs, I would like to use the Hide If feature to hide certain tabs depending on certain conditions. When I try this it hides the whole tab control (with all 3 tabs) and I'm looking to do this individually, is this at all possible? Second, I have quite a few fields that I need to have on my layout for calculations and scripts but I don't want users to see these. What is the best way to keep the fields on a layout but hide them from users? Thanks!

I am updating the field picker to update field options and I am getting a frustrating glitch. I right click on a field in the field picker and select field options and it opens just fine. I make a change and then close the popup and the field picker half greys out (see attached image). If i then right click on another field and select field options I get a message telling me that I am currently modifying the database definition. In order to be able to update another field I have to quit out of filemaker and log in again which is totally untenable. For example, skills, active status, desired tasks. One of the requirements is a set of check boxes that indicate when the volunteer is available. The users want the days of the week across the top and 3 check boxes under each one for morning afternoon or evening. I need to be able to check multiple boxes. The row color changes according to the state of progress. Pushing a button after the selection of the cell, all the data of the order along the row are shows in a form with tab. I've used FMPro for decades and can not believe that with the advent of .fmp12 (using version 14) that the Powers that Be decided to dump the ability to add multiple fields to a layout. Here are screen shots from Version 9 (.fmp7) Screen Shot 1 is the first window when creating a new layout. There, I choose the type of layout. Screen Shot 2 expands on that choice. Screen Shot 3 allows one to select ALL the fields desired for that layout in a single action. The only thing I see with FMP14 is Screen Shot 4. One window, one choice. Finis. I am working on a pre-inventory form. The form will basically be listed by product SKU numbers. Each line (row) of the form will contain a different product SKU number, for example; Product #101010 Product #111111 Product #123456 The stores database automatically keeps track of each product amount in stock, BUT, because of theft and misplaced items, we count each item every morning and night, and then compare it to what the stores database says. Hi Forum. I had a question about how to select a window, when multiple windows are opened. Brief explanation. I am on a layout with 1 window open, called Delivery Management-regular document window. I import records to this layout then open via script 2 more windows with information I need to look at while working in the first window. Both of these are floating windows. Okay so I have forms which must go to head office and they have combination of text fields and checkboxes and these questions are all over the form sometimes in 3 columns sometimes 2 or 1. I've been building my database for about 4 years now and its tricked out with portals and conditional formatting. The problem is its running extremely slow on all computers, when you click from one layout to another, theres about a 10 second waiting time before the layout switches. I'm trying to go through each layout and do what I can to optimize or speed up the database. One thought I had is converting any (conditional formatting/Hide Object If) I had into a calculated field. I then subsequently have a interface file, with a reference to the customer file, however I have a locked layout where the user can find add etc data to the customer table. The interface file has scripts, values lists etc. and is pretty locked down. I have then created a reports/exports file which is totally unlocked. I have a reference to the customer table and only the customer table is showing in the database diagram.
