  1. I just upgraded our FM Server and four workstations to FM 16 Server and FileMaker 16 User. I have been using FM15 User to update a solution in every way, including layout design since June 2016. The only function I could have used from Advanced was commenting out script lines, but I lived with it. FM16 User appears to have removed Fill Color and a few other selections when I right click on an object in layout mode. Is this correct? Or have they just moved that somewhere else? Or is this a way of telling us they don't want Users doing too much design work, so get a copy of Advanced?

  2. i made a table with one text field and 10 container fileds and made 260 records , now i am duplicating the same table nine more times so fields are duplicated not the records question is - i want the other 9 tables container to be filled with table 1 container graphics which i can do manually but very hard time taking pain process is there any easy method to make 9 table container fields to be filled with table 1 graphics as we cant export and import containers like text fields to .xlsx please

  3. Hi FileMaker people, I used to use FileMaker on a Mac, but have recently switched to a Windows 10 computer. I was developing a database on the Mac, but since moving to PC I'm getting a lot of horizontal lines, blurred text and broken borders, images and buttons as I scroll. I've attached three screenshots as examples - these are happening on most layouts, most of the time. The solution is hosted remotely on a Windows 2012 server. I didn't have these problems when I used a Mac, and I've looked at it on a coworker's Mac over the same internet connection and the problem didn't occur.     I have a fire department incident report layout which has a portal on it to capture pictures of an incident. After the photo is taken you see a thumbnail of it on the incident report portal. I have a separate layout with mostly the same info which is used to print the incident report if needed. I an wondering how to attach those photos to that "print" layout if there are photos taken at the scene but not have lots of blank pages with empty container fields if there were no photos taken?   5. Greetings and thanks for giving this a look! I am rebuilding a client's database that was done formerly in PHP. I'm now using FM 16 Pro Advanced. There is one print layout I'm having trouble recreating. There are a number of data fields the realtors fill out...some get filled in, other times some don't. In addition it needs to print the name of the data field then the data itself, so for instance "Construction Stick Built". I've figured out how to go through and print only the fields (and their labels) that have data. The issue I have is with the spacing in the columns.     We use our database to track purchase orders that come into our office and are then sent to vendors. The "Product Catalog" table uses a UPC as the primary key which is linked to the "Purchase Order" table. Users create a PO and enter the UPC which then populates item description, price, etc. They then enter how much of each item is ordered. Majority of our products have unique UPCs which work perfectly as the field is set to require a unique value. However, there are a few instances where we sell a branded item to multiple customers, meaning I need to somehow differentiate the UPC between each customer.   10. I am designing a database for the inspection sheets used in our quality lab. Each of our parts has a different number of criteria that they need to be inspected for. This ranges anywhere from 5-15 dimensional requirements. I am wondering if there is anyway in FileMaker to display a varying number of both editable and uneditable fields. So for instance if somebody pulls an inspection sheet for a part with 6 different dimensional requirements, FileMaker will only show 6 uneditable fields describing the dimensions in question, and 6 editable fields for the user to type in their measurement.     Fairly new to Filemaker here and currently working with an old Filemaker 10 database. I can give more details as requested; the basic issue is this (pictures attached): We have a module called "CAPA Log". In this module users create new records and input text related to those new records. However, there is one field that is not user generated, "CAPA Number". In this module I click on a button titled "Outstanding CAPAs" . This buttons purpose is to show a list of records that do not have a "Closing Date" entered. Sometimes I need to present data in a layout with several sub-summary parts and usually no body parts I find it good interface, to give the user the ability to click on the only visible sub-summary part and reveal the next part in the hierarchy, and so on...   15. Hello everyone i know this an already answer question but the result is not what I was expecting. I do a job for a client where he got some long printing report. 2 or 3 or more page Invoices. I search a way to restrict the footer to be printed only on the last page. I currently partially achieve that by hiding the footer if it's not the last page. The issue whith that is that I got a blank part a the bottom of each first page. The footer print well on the last page but that blank footer région on first page are ugly. I need a layout with larger number of text fields which may have long words .. currently words are being split randomly and overflowing into new lines .. eg .. for the word 'accordingly'; 'accordingl' comes on the first line and 'ly' comes on the second line.   21. We've noticed recently an odd behaviour that we don't recall seeing prior to v15.0.3. Tested on Mac Sierra with FMA v15.0.3. On Win10 with v15.0.2 this doesn't happen, When switching from a list layout to a form layout, the form layout that s being loaded is very briefly loaded in the body part of the list layout before the layout is refreshed and loaded normally. We've been able to reproduce this in various older apps (no change to the app). We've found a temporary solution to prevent the 'flicker' from showing by entering find mode, then switching layout and then going back to browse mode. Has anyone else encountered this?

Have successfully created a report by month with total received and total shipped and the difference between the two. I have to create many layouts in our main database using formatted static text mixed with merge fields. Attached is an example of what three sections of this text might look like. The dollar amounts are merge fields which display data that is calculated based on selections made elsewhere within each record.     A DBMS that we're working on deals with routing trucks. In the body of the report each record represents a stop for a truck. There is a calculation field there that returns the number of packages to be offloaded on that stop. The body part is followed by two sub summaries. The first summarizes by route and a summary field positioned there returns the number of packages that will be put off that truck on all of the stops on the route.   33. Hi from a relative newbie, I have a FMP 13 file that works fine on some computers (both Windows and Mac) but on one Mac computer it works only partially. Several of the layouts work fine, but one layout is "frozen" and does not permit entry in any of the fields. Is there something in the Mac OS that could "lock out" a particular layout, but leave all others normally functional? Should I re-install FMP 13? (I'm not sure how to do that on a Mac.     Hi! I'm planning a job schedule application. There is about 36 different "work stations" or "positions" each day (the left side in a picture) and the dates are in top (Monday to Sunday) In every shift or position there is usually only one person, but occasionally there can be several in one duty (up to 10). I cannot figure out how this can be shown in a listing. If I reserve extra space for possible extra person to each field, the whole list would become a mile long. I have been thinking of repeating fields but it would not solve this problem. Any ideas?

    Hello All, We are using the Invoice starter solution as our database for entering our PO's in the Payment info Popover, I want to modified to suit our needs. I want to put the "All items received" and "Forwarded to Accounting" in the radio Button selection. What I want is, If I select "Forwarded to Accounting" I don't want to see the word "Paid", I want to see only "Forwarded to Accounting" and the date or "All items received" and the date.     LS, All of a sudden the saveAsPdf script step produces this ( see picture ) result. It is an invoice, with almost all data screwed up. It looks like all letters were printed in the same column in stead of from left to right. To make things more complex, not all invoices print like this although they are using the same layout to print from. When I print to preview ( mac ) and the use the save as pdf options the invoice comes out great. How can this be ?

    I'm going nuts here -- I've got a really simple Title header for a report. All that's in there is a single Text box with two merge fields in it. I have it set to 'Sliding Up based on all objects above, and have checked the box that says "Also resize enclosing part." I've made sure nothing is overlapping the division between the Title Header and body parts. But in preview the text box is closing up properly but the 'Enclosing Part' isn't resizing to take up the excess empty space created by the Text box.   52. Ok here is my problem. I have created a summary report that pulls together weekly reports for projects under a specific office of work. SO each report generated could be specific to a set area. In the report layout i set it up with a title header for the cover sheet, a sub summary section which shows each sub- group, a sub summary section that has all the project specific text and report, and then the body which has pictures and captions for the project.   53. HELP! I am trying to get my FM layout to have a self aware object. The object is named appropriately and the object (For example, a portal) would then use the name to filter with some form of get(name) method. Can this be done? In theory i want singular row portals with the name "Portal 1" to be copy an pasted. When pasting FM will automatically name this "Portal 2" (3,4,5,6 and so on).   54. This is getting frustrating: About ten percent of the time I open a file, all of the layouts are displaying in a font named [email protected] or, less commonly, [email protected]. If I close and reopen the file a number of times, the problem will sometimes self-correct and show the normal fonts (I only use Arial, Calibri, and Times New Roman), but sometimes I have to go through every layout and reset the fonts.     I am new to using the Label layouts. I hoped it would make it easier, but at the moment I feel like I am missing out on certain functionality. I wanted to be able to print either 1 label.. or a series of labels in a found set..(List format) Or mainly, say I want 100 labels on one page of the same record.   59. Looking for a way to manage/restrict access to the "Modify Table View" option. Currently, AFAIK, if Table View is enabled for a given layout, any user who has access to that layout can modify the table view. To me, this seems like sort of a bug. I.E., if I have a privilege set that that restricts layout modification, but Table View is enabled, a user can still modify that layout while in Table View. Is that correct?     Hello, I have a centered text field (actually a merge field <<name>>) and would like to add an image right after the name but only for certain situations. The objective is to show an icon after a name if that person is new. I can add an image to the layout and do a "Hide Object When", but that makes the image location static. I tried creating a container field and then merging the two, but it doesn't show the image in the container field (ie. <<name>><<main::image>>).     I have a layout that crashes every time we try to open it, but only the first time of the day. If we open it once and allow it to crash, then open Filemaker again, usually on either the second or third try, the layout opens fine, and works well the rest of the day, unless we shut down FM and restart. This seems VERY odd to me - any ideas? Don't really have any idea where to begin to troubleshoot this one. I do get error messages on windows event viewer - but I cannot decipher the language. Windows users insist that they used to be able to copy text from a website or email and paste it into a field and the field would impose it's attributes on the text. So for example a blue coloured and underline email address would become black text with now underlining. They say this 'feature' has disappeared in FM 14 and now the text retains the formatting from the source. When looking at a given customer, I would like to be able to copy the whole address block (as displayed on screen) to be able to paste it somewhere else (for instance, in an email, or on a Word document). You can't do this from the layout for data entry, but we have another layout showing the address block as a succession of merge fields (see screen shot). Though I've placed this form letter on the layout itself with merge fields which work great when we print this layout ... however, the form letter is not editable. In most cases these forms are controlled documents. So, for instance, we have an official "Product Approval" form in Filemaker.   84. I just updated to FileMaker 14. I have thousands of records with container fields where I used "insert Quicktime" to link audio files. This latest version has removed that option. So I learned I need to make the container fields interactive. I did this properly, and now the audio is playing. However, the Quicktime controls are gone. I can't move a playhead around, fast forward, rewind, or much of anything. The only options I have are Play/Pause and Volume. Is there any way to fix this so I can have more controls?     I am updating the field picker to update field options and I am getting a frustrating glitch. I right click on a field in the field picker and select field options and it opens just fine. I make a change and then close the popup and the field picker half greys out (see attached image). If i then right click on another field and select field options I get a message telling me that I am currently modifying the database definition. I've used FMPro for decades and can not believe that with the advent of .fmp12 (using version 14) that the Powers that Be decided to dump the ability to add multiple fields to a layout. Here are screen shots from Version 9 (.fmp7) Screen Shot 1 is the first window when creating a new layout. There, I choose the type of layout. Screen Shot 2 expands on that choice. The problem is its running extremely slow on all computers, when you click from one layout to another, theres about a 10 second waiting time before the layout switches. I then subsequently have a interface file, with a reference to the customer file, however I have a locked layout where the user can find add etc data to the customer table. The interface file has scripts, values lists etc. and is pretty locked down. I have then created a reports/exports file which is totally unlocked.
