Hi, I have a bit of a dilemma that I've tried a number of solutions to sort out, to no avail. I have a portal that lists the participants in a class. In each row is a checkbox that can be used to indicate whether that participant has withdrawn from the class. I've used a summary field to count the number of checked boxes and have a field that subtracts that number from the total of records in the portal - easy peasy. Where it gets tricky is that, one of the fields relates to the number of children associated with a participant (a mum may have 3 kids in the class if it's one of the playgroups). Hi all I've created a value list that serves as an email autocomplete drop down (like the sort in an email client). This VL looks to a single text field in a single record table which currently has 3000 lines. The field is updated every 15 minutes by a scheduled server script. The 'auto complete using value list' option is applied on the field that refers to this VL. The old method was to not have a VL but to just tick the 'auto complete using existing values' option on the field. Greets, all: The attached file is representative of a much larger one I'm working on. The goal is to see in COURSE::TestField__lxt a value list of only Astronomy's related values (through COURSE::_k_Astronomy) in the VALUE_LIST::VALUE__lxt, i.e., Planets, Stars, Galaxies; in the Edit Value List window, I left it set at "all values" just to test the relationship--which seems to be working. Hi all I've added a new table and field which needs to use a previously created value list called "clients for sorting". The VL will be used for data entry in the new table. To save clutter I would like to use (but edit) this VL instead of creating a near duplicate. I'm not sure where exactly this VL has been used up to this point but I am willing to trust my naming of it and say it is for sorting and not data input. It is currently configured to show both the first and second fields, and to sort values using the second field. Hi Folks, I'm sure this should be quite easy, but I just can't get it to work! I have a portal that gives the results of a search. I'm using PatternCount and filtering in the portal itself rather than using a relationship - this means I've got more control of the filtering. I hope Iv come to the right place. Im hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to make a solution where different warehouses have different types of equipment. What I want to do is for each site to create a list of equipment on site. Then create a checklist which will be done weekly for each of the equipment. For example one site may have: forklift, sweeper, trolley jack 1, trolley jack 2 etc. Once the list is created, create a check list for the list of equipment. Hi everyone! I am so close to completing my little database and I have one more thing I would like to be able to do. I have a "Look up" section where I can see the details of an individual. I want to do display which activities they have attended. Activities are in a separate table. People are connected to activities via the affiliation table. Hi Can anyone help please. I am new to portal's. I have a timesheet database I have made and in the timesheet layout I want to be able to add new crew into the portal. I can input data but only in one row... I tried a script to add a new row as a single script on a button but that didn't work. I am stuck on how to add a new row. Am I also right that using a portal is the best way to add new crew so I can list what crew I have in each day and track their hours and overtime. username is admin... there is no password.... Anyone have or know of a technique to employ to create a scrollable, read-only text field? This is mostly for FMGo (smaller iPhone display). In large text blocks flagged as read-only you either have to expand the text field to cover all expected text and scroll the entire layout or hack something together with a web viewer showing the text which requires a fair bit of html crafting to get the formatting to look right with the other layout objects. I'd like a more seamless solution (if one is possible) that keeps the hacking down to a minimum. thanks

I generate an invoice by a report. The work is totalled and then VAT/GST is calculated and the total work + GST = the invoice value. These 3 fields appear in a trailing grand summary. One above thew other above the other: Total Work GST Total this invoice Depending upon the number of items in the invoice the invoice may have more than one page. Again depending on the precise number of items in the invoice I can finish up having 2 of the 3 summary fields on one page and the remaining one on another page. In FileMaker 14, I have a checkbox set that allows the user to enter other values aside from the assigned value list. I'm trying to figure out how I could display the "other" text that is entered by the user, without also displaying other selected items, since those are visible in the checkbox set. Can I somehow filter each value list item out and only display what is left in a text field? Thanks for any suggestions.

I sometimes use a trick in Conditional Formatting to give fast hints in form views.. i'll place a merge field (name of field, or helpful hint) BEHIND the actual form, then will format the field to have a clear/no backcground, using a calculation of "IsEmpty(Table::FieldName) - to trigger it.. So if the field is empty, the hint is visible, but if there is any value in it, the hint disappears. See screenshot below.. The problem is that this falls apart in List View.. active fields work.. inactive don't.. what ca I do?

I have avery big solution that was built in FM7 originally and it needs a UI overhaul. So, no themes are as good as they are I am rolling up my sleeves and putting together a reference design. have been looking around at design templates to lift (speaking frankly) and I like the FM Starting Point design. However there are a few things I need to tweak that I can't readily see how to do it in Inspector. The main one is the height of the tabs in the tab controls. They are too high for my layouts. Use Case: I've got a graphic (in this instance, a complete human body). I want to mouse-over and click on say, the hand, and have that trigger a script, with a parameter. I'd hope to simply have a single script, read the parameter (which would in fact grab the value of the tooltip), and have that passed into the script. It seems to me that the various flavors of "get(objectname), etc don't seem to have a way to grab the actual text that's in the "tooltip" or "object name". Am I missing something in there? When you have a webviewer in a layout as you change layout the webviewer reset it self, on mac activity app you can see the webviewer process disappear. If the webviewer is in a popup if you close the popup the process remain still up, you have to change layout if you want to close the webviewer process.

Hello everyone, I have found a stange behaviour with filemaker. I have two tables linked by a third one. I want to navigate using the portal. But if I use a script on layout exit, then the behaviour is abnormal. Please have a look at the enclosed database and try normal, then abnormal layout. Hi All I am fairly new to FIlemaker and am working on a project that I want to have a few conditional value drop down lists for product entry. I want to have the ability to enter in multiple line items and have copied the fields to make up 5 lines. The issue I am having is that the drop-down menu selections populate all of the line items when something is selected. For example, if I select something in the first field, it selects the same section on all 5 lines I feel like I am missing something simple but have been banging my head on this for a while and I am not getting anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi I have a database and in each record there are portals which contain lists of characters, which you can add to or take away. You can then generate a report via a script that will list the characters under each date. I wanted it where it lists some of the characters in a different colour if they contain a certain word. I have managed to get it via conditional formatting but it then changes every character in the portal under that date rather then just the character that contains that word. I'm having some issues with the understanding of Sliding & Visibility feature of the Position section of the Inspector. I've attached a screenshot of the what it would look like when printed, but would like to know how to work through making that space below the last subject and bringing up the line separating the next grade. There are fields there, where the blank space is, but it has conditional formatting so that if the subject is missing, none of the other information will show. Essentially there are a total of 15 subject fields going down vertically but want the section to move up if the fields are empty so that the document could fit to one page.

I just upgraded our FM Server and four workstations to FM 16 Server and FileMaker 16 User. I have been using FM15 User to update a solution in every way, including layout design since June 2016. The only function I could have used from Advanced was commenting out script lines, but I lived with it. FM16 User appears to have removed Fill Color and a few other selections when I right click on an object in layout mode. Is this correct? Or have they just moved that somewhere else? Or is this a way of telling us they don't want Users doing too much design work, so get a copy of Advanced?

I have a layout where it shows a Person's information (name address etc), and it includes a Tab Control that lists all the dogs that are related to (owned by ) that particular person. I want to be able to click on a button that allows the user to add a new dog that is connected to the person showing. Hi FileMaker people, I used to use FileMaker on a Mac, but have recently switched to a Windows 10 computer. I was developing a database on the Mac, but since moving to PC I'm getting a lot of horizontal lines, blurred text and broken borders, images and buttons as I scroll. I've attached three screenshots as examples - these are happening on most layouts, most of the time. The solution is hosted remotely on a Windows 2012 server. The styles eyedropper does not seem to be working properly. When I copy a style from one text object to another using the style eye droppers, the down-arrow turns red wanting me to re-save the style! I can apply the styles from the styles pane with no problem. Is this normal? I'm using FMP 15 Adv.

I have a fire department incident report layout which has a portal on it to capture pictures of an incident. After the photo is taken you see a thumbnail of it on the incident report portal. I have a separate layout with mostly the same info which is used to print the incident report if needed. I an wondering how to attach those photos to that "print" layout if there are photos taken at the scene but not have lots of blank pages with empty container fields if there were no photos taken? Greetings and thanks for giving this a look! I am rebuilding a client's database that was done formerly in PHP. I'm now using FM 16 Pro Advanced. There is one print layout I'm having trouble recreating. There are a number of data fields the realtors fill out...some get filled in, other times some don't. In addition it needs to print the name of the data field then the data itself, so for instance "Construction Stick Built". If you wish to add a new icon into your button or button bar setup using the '+', you may have noticed that it does not stick in a served file. When you close out and go back in, the new icon has again disappeared. One must unserve the file and add it locally. However, I just discovered that if you add the icon into a local button or button bar then copy the button bar and paste it into the served file, it appears for selection in other buttons in the served file and remains even if you then delete the pasted button bar back out. When I open my solution in FMP16, any button that has an assigned to as script is now 'grouped.' This is locking me out of making any design changes to the buttons without ungrouping and re-assigning the button. Once I re-assign the script the button it that becomes grouped again. Ugh! When I open the same solution in FMP15 I do not experience any of these issues. BTW I am using the Classic Theme. Had anyone experience this problem and found a solution?

The possibility of being able to use card windows as reusable objects throughout multiple layouts in FileMaker 16 is an useful concept. For example, if you have recurring popovers in many layouts with the same content you could substitute these with a card window layout and have the content controlled from one place instead of using duplicate content in multiple popovers. Hi folks, I have a problem calling an FM Script from a webviewer under WebDirect. When the script is called, it attempts to open FileMaker Pro locally rather than handle it in the web browser. The server is a clean install Win 2016 Std (w/GUI) + FMS 16.0.1, nothing else, fmurlscript is enabled for all privilege sets. I have a form in which users make measurements of multiple parts, then input the max and min measurements. I then have conditional formatting that compares these maxes and mins to the hard mins and maxes for that part. If the inputted max is larger than the hard max, or the inputted min is smaller than the hard min; the conditional formatting is supposed to highlight that measurement in red. This has worked in almost every case I have tested so far, except for one strange case. I have a hard min of 9.8, and my user is attempting to input 10 as the min. Hi people, I am at a total loss here so any help appreciated! New to using popovers hence my question: a button/script that sits 'within' a popover panel then accesses a named object which allows creation of a service/product with a price on it. Problem: the price is in $ and I want £ ... BUT I can't then get that object up in layout mode to format currency as it disappears when I access layout mode! Hello forum. I'm in the process of rebuilding a FM12 db into a FM16 db. I have many places where I used conditional formatting to hide an object. Some layouts (mostly reports) there are many objects formatted this way. I plan to change them to take advantage of 'Hide object when'. Does anyone know which one renders faster? We use our database to track purchase orders that come into our office and are then sent to vendors. The "Product Catalog" table uses a UPC as the primary key which is linked to the "Purchase Order" table. Users create a PO and enter the UPC which then populates item description, price, etc. They then enter how much of each item is ordered. Majority of our products have unique UPCs which work perfectly as the field is set to require a unique value. However, there are a few instances where we sell a branded item to multiple customers, meaning I need to somehow differentiate the UPC between each customer. I am currently building a database to handle the inspection sheets used by our Quality lab. I am designing a database for the inspection sheets used in our quality lab. Each of our parts has a different number of criteria that they need to be inspected for. This ranges anywhere from 5-15 dimensional requirements. I am wondering if there is anyway in FileMaker to display a varying number of both editable and uneditable fields. Hi...I have created a database using a "modified" anchor buoy method and so far everything works great...but...I have a portal in a "join table" that works fine...however, my button that is supposed to open the record in the portal row does not function...it returns nothing. Hello. I'm using a web viewer to control and stream mp3s from our server. This works great on my Apple laptop - the mp3 loads along with a player and I can listen to and control playback. It also works fine on one of two Apple desktop machines. But on one Apple desktop machine the file downloads to the desktop instead of loading in the web viewer. I've checked my browsers, both my default browser (Chrome) and the standard web browser (Safari), and the URLs play in the browser in both cases. Neither one downloads the track. Is there a way to control this behavior within FM so that the mp3 plays within the web viewer and doesn't download? Note: The URL for the mp3s are…

I can give more details as requested; the basic issue is this (pictures attached): We have a module called "CAPA Log". In this module users create new records and input text related to those new records. However, there is one field that is not user generated, "CAPA Number". In this module I click on a button titled "Outstanding CAPAs" . This buttons purpose is to show a list of records that do not have a "Closing Date" entered. Sanity check here...I want to use a popover with a portal to help a user select from a long list of choices in Find Mode. Apparently, I cannot do that. I've tried to populate a global in the parent table and use a relationship with the global on the left to display related children in the portal. Nothing shows. I then switched to a virtual list of choices where the $$vlist is populated by SQL. $$vlist has data..portal shows nothing. Is Find Mode unable to use such a technique? I did follow Kevin Frank's tutorial on conditional value lists in Find Mode. That works wonderfully, except my first popup is too long -- really need that picker!

I'm brand new to Filemaker. I'm trying to figure out how to make a left menu area that will appear in all of my layouts for navigation purposes. To switch from layout to layout easily for the user when my application goes live. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but from what I'm reading, it looks like it may not be. Would there be a way to split a layout into two vertical sections, the left one being the menu (which I can duplicate on every layout if necessary, though that would be a pain), and the right area where the actual program interactions appear? I'm so new that I'm not even what the correct terminology is. Thanks!

Hey all, I have a table that has hundreds of records that describe archival footage based on "tape names" for a documentary I'm working on. I also have a second "in the cut" table that describes all of the clips contained in an edited episode that may have several iterations of the same tape, since we are using different sections of them. I have a database that keeps track of computer system information. I have a record for each system (one per room). Within this system there are a number of different computer devices and I want to track settings such as IP addresses subnet masks and other network type information. Hi everyone! I have been searching all over for answers, and there seems to be none. I have a data entry "Comments" field and I want the field to expand when the text goes over the size of the field. Is there ANY possible way? I do not want to make a huge 'Comments' field and use the slide function for printing. I want the field to expand as the text goes. Hi all. I am about to start building a user interface to provide text formatting functionality whereby users can format text using buttons I have provided such as Bold, Italic, and so on. Basically buttons for all the text formatting functions FileMaker provides. Hi Guys, I've tried a few times too no avail to figure out a way to set the colour of some background objects within my db. Basically, I'm setting things up with a default color scheme, but would like to be able to customise the scheme based on the clients preferences. I'm working on a merge letter type interface. I have a list of merge field choices in a portal next to a text field. I would like to be able to insert into the text field when clicking on a button on the portal row. But I just realized when clicking a button in a portal it pulls the cursor out of the currently active field since I'm actually selecting a related record. Thus Insert Calculated Results will not work to insert the merge field name at the current cursor position. Any suggestions on how to work around this issue?

Hello, I am not sure if this is a tip, or if it is already known. Anyway it has a practical value for me so I thought I post it. Sometimes I need to present data in a layout with several sub-summary parts and usually no body parts I find it good interface, to give the user the ability to click on the only visible sub-summary part and reveal the next part in the hierarchy, and so on... Thus expanding and collapsing the list by clicking on the headers. I would like to know if it is possible to create viewable Google Map or Earth data from City/St or Zipcode information, but not street address. I have a popover portal that displays a virtual list. My client would like to have two or more windows open at the same time. (ugh, i know). Currently, if the user has two windows each with a popover portal displayed, they are parsing the same $$vlist, and so one popover's portal is showing the wrong data. We have a newer Dell laptop that is having display issues with FileMaker Pro 14 running on Windows 10. It is a very high resolution monitor with the DPI defaulted to 250%. As you can see from the attached pic, every layout comes out partially displayed. As you move your mouse over the fields and the buttons, they become displayed. I tried taking the DPI down to 100 and decreasing the resolution, but that didn't fix it. I've tried 32-bit and 64-bit of FM14. I have tried Windows 7 and Windows 8 compatibility for DPI and scaling. I'm trying to hide a tab from all but the following users, Matt, Haley and Kristen. I'm trying to use the hide object when- (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "matt") or (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "haley") or (Get ( AccountName ) ≠ "kristen") but its not showing even to me at the moment. I am using a Web Viewer Control to embed Google Docs content on Windows. Unfortunately Google is reporting that my web browser is out of date and not supported. Tested on FileMaker Pro Advanced 15.0.3.305. This is a bug in FileMaker. Here's why: The FileMaker Web Viewer uses Internet Explorer on Windows. The version is controlled by the FEATURE_BEHAVIORS and FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION keys, which can either be in the HKCU or HKLM in the registry. I am assuming an HKCU value overrides HKLM ones. Two new and identical computers. Purchased and configured at the same time. Windows 7 installed on both. Filemaker 11 installed on both. IE Explorer installed on both. Mozilla Firefox installed on both. The Web Viewer works for Google Maps on one computer but not the other. The failed Web Viewer provides the following error message: "You seem to be using an unsupported Browser". Hello everyone i know this an already answer question but the result is not what I was expecting. I do a job for a client where he got some long printing report. 2 or 3 or more page Invoices. I search a way to restrict the footer to be printed only on the last page. I currently partially achieve that by hiding the footer if it's not the last page. As this script step is not available for the server, I am having troubles getting the same script to work on the server. I am just working on an appointment reminder system and I would like to create a set of records each day for the next day's appointments. In general, appointments are half hourly and mostly only one for each timeslot. I'd like each new record to auto-enter the appointment time 1 slot (30mins) later than the time slot in the previous record. At the moment the timeslots are in a value list from 8.00AM to 5.00PM in 30min intervals. Hi All, When I add records to a quote they may be added in multiples until the Quote is accepted. When a quote is accepted I now have to change any multiple service Products to single products to allow for the creation of the barcodes,(serial numbers), used during the service so that any parts used on the product are recorded against that particular product. Howdy, all: This is for a FileMaker Go solution where there are arrow-shaped sort indicators for select fields that when clicked, will sort their respective fields in ascending or descending order, depending on which arrow is clicked. What I'd like to do is script it so when the arrow is clicked, the indicator color changes to reflect that that field's sort order is in ascending/descending order. That part is easy using scripted flag field and a script parameter to set it. The problem is deactivating an indicator's conditional formatting should a user decide to perform a manual sort using FM Go's native sorting control. Any ideas? TIA for your help!

I need a layout with larger number of text fields which may have long words .. currently words are being split randomly and overflowing into new lines .. eg .. for the word 'accordingly'; 'accordingl' comes on the first line and 'ly' comes on the second line. Is there a way that filemaker can hyphenate large words and insert breaks so that it breaks in a more clean manner ?

Hi, As I am trying to understand why my screen "Blinks" or "Temporarily" displays a working layout I navigated within scripts. I have read Filemaker's screen "Freeze/Refresh" window definition. Greets, all: I'm tweaking the Electric theme's CSS but can't figure out which line of code I need change when it comes to the text field so it doesn't cut off the text's descenders. (Descenders are the parts of a lowercase letter that dip below the rest of the text; the letters g, j, p, and y.) See the attached graphic to see what I mean. Windows 10 FM Pro11 Advanced We use a webviewer window to access a folder on a local hard drive containing images. The webviewer defaults to the detailed list view. Most of the times it would be more advantageous to view the large thumbnails. In the past we were able to right click in the window and select the best view from the options windows offered. I do not remember when it stopped working, but now when I right click into the webviewer window, I get the error message "Encountered an improper argument". I have to click OK about 10-20 times before the message goes away. Is there a fix for that, or a work-around or is there a way to change the default view? …

We've noticed recently an odd behaviour that we don't recall seeing prior to v15.0.3. Tested on Mac Sierra with FMA v15.0.3. On Win10 with v15.0.2 this doesn't happen, When switching from a list layout to a form layout, the form layout that s being loaded is very briefly loaded in the body part of the list layout before the layout is refreshed and loaded normally. We've been able to reproduce this in various older apps (no change to the app). We've found a temporary solution to prevent the 'flicker' from showing by entering find mode, then switching layout and then going back to browse mode. Has anyone else encountered this?
